Invierno de 2010: el peor y mejor invierno de mi vida.

Hola, soy Emma, vivo en una casa en Wormwood, una pequeña ciudad en el norte de los Estados Unidos, con mis padres: Caroline y Michael, los quiero mucho y lo que más me gusta de mi madre es su tatuaje de mariposa en su ombligo. Soy una chica arisca, extrovertida, muy inteligente pero nada responsable. Siempre me dejo los deberes, la mochila e incluso alguna vez he olvidado ir al instituto, hasta que mi tutora se hartó y me expulsó durante dos semanas. Mis padres estaban furiosos y para desconectar y tomarse un descanso se fueron una semana a Canadá mientras yo me quedaba en casa sola, y durante esos días no me dejaron salir.

Durante el primer día de la expulsión se me congelaron los pies bajando las amplias escaleras de caracol que conducían al comedor. Una vez abajo, rápidamente me puse un jersey y unos calcetines navideños, ya que se acercaba la navidad. Acto seguido, preparé el desayuno: unas tostadas con mantequilla y miel y una taza de café con nata y caramelo. Mientras desayunaba, revisaba mi teléfono, tenía mucho sueño y me fijé en la hora que era, ¡las ocho de la mañana! Me llegó un mensaje de mi mejor amiga Gala, preguntándome por qué no estaba en el instituto, yo simplemente respondí que estaba enferma y después encendí la televisión y me senté en el sofá a descansar durante todo el día, sin hacer absolutamente nada. Pasó el día, ya eran las once de la noche y me dirigí a mi cuarto para leer e ir a dormir.

Después de la monotonía del día anterior, cada vez estaba más y más desmotivada, solamente era el segundo día y no podía más, necesitaba cambiar de aires. Ese mismo día, mientras desayunaba, otra vez café con tostadas con mantequilla y miel, encontré un papelito sobre la encimera de la cocina en el que había escrito un pequeño texto:<>. Juro que lo leí y releí pero seguía sin encontrarle el sentido, hasta que me fijé en las letras en negrita y las junté:

¿nciónetsa? Pero… ¡Esto no tiene ningún sentido!

Luego lo entendí:

Quizá si las mezclo… Esta… ¡estación N! Pero, en esta ciudad únicamente hay una estación y es la estación de Northwood… ¡Claro! Se refiere a la estación del Norte, cómo la de Northwood.

En ese momento, me dio la sensación de que se me abrieron todas las puertas de mis dudas, menos una: ¿por qué me estaba encontrando esos papeles? Y, ¿para qué eran?. Por lo tanto, tendría que encontrar la llave para esa puerta.

Al día siguiente, por la mañana, me puse manos a la obra e inicié la búsqueda de los horarios de los trenes y el más barato era a las siete de la tarde, aunque aún desconocía mi destino. Ya eran las seis y me hice la mochila en la que metí: una toalla y neceser (por si acaso), dinero, mi teléfono, un mapa de la zona, unas galletas y agua y bajé a la cocina para hacerme un bocadillo de tortilla para cenar.

A las seis y media salí de casa y revisé el buzón del jardín para asegurarme de que no había nada y de la nada encontré otro papelito y lo leí:

¿1·Pa.15,2·Mt.9NAM075? Esto es aún peor, solo me es conocida la última indicación, sé que es una matrícula pero no tenía ni la más remota idea del significado de la otra.

Cogí la mochila y fui yendo hacia la estación de tren para que no se me hiciera tarde y llegué justo a tiempo, el tren me esperaba allí. Estuve la mayor parte del trayecto intentando descifrar el mensaje del papelito pero no le encontraba el significado. Pasó mucho rato y se me ocurrió mirar al panel de paradas cuando vi una indicación que decía: ‘’ Próxima parada: StoneTown núm. 15’’ y allí lo entendí todo, se refería a la parada de tren. Dentro, no había mucha gente, la mayoría de asientos estaban vacíos y lo único que conseguía percibir era el rico aroma de mi bocadillo de tortilla, ¡se me hacía la boca agua solo con olerlo!

Una vez llegué, mi destino era un pequeño pueblo lleno de casas hechas de piedra (de allí el nombre), eran las ocho y media de la noche y en ese momento me encontraba en la plaza principal del pueblo. Me senté en uno de esos bancos de piedra duros y rugosos a comer mi bocadillo y a beber agua para descansar un rato. Luego me fui a dar una vuelta por el pueblo para explorarlo cuando pasé por una casa un tanto peculiar: era muy colorida y era de madera y al lado había una furgoneta decorada de mariposas y flores pero la matrícula me era familiar y tuve la idea de revisar la matrícula de mi papelito y… ¡Madre mía! Coincidían, me acerqué un poco más y me froté los ojos para asegurarme de lo que estaba viendo. Casi se me escapa un grito pero me salió una pequeña parte y eso alarmó a los dueños de la casa. Abrieron la ventana para ver lo que estaba sucediendo e intenté esconderme pero ya era demasiado tarde, me vieron. En ese momento mi cerebro solamente podía pensar en una frase: ‘’ Tierra trágame, tierra trágame’’. Ese vecino era muy generoso y me ofreció pasar la noche en su casa ya que las temperaturas por la noche eran bastante bajas. La verdad es que su hospitalidad era excelente y no me faltó de nada. Durante la noche dormí en el sofá de cuero, bien calentita.

Al día siguiente me desperté por el sol tan potente que traspasaba las cortinas del comedor y en la cocina estaba el vecino. Era un hombre mayor de unos setenta años, con barba y muchos tatuajes, uno de ellos una mariposa, el cual me recordó al de mi madre. En ese momento me dio nostalgia de cuando era pequeña y me salieron un par de lágrimas pero que acabaron siendo muchas más, el vecino vino y me ofreció un paquete de pañuelos y al abrirlo me encontré con otro papelito. Eso me levantó sospechas sobre el vecino pero lo dejé estar. Tardé unos quince minutos para cambiarme e ir a conocer el pueblo pero me acordé del papelito, me paré en un banco y lo leí: << StoneRock Mount>>

Creo que es la montaña que envuelve a este pueblecito, creo que tengo que subirla o algo parecido.

A esas alturas ya tenía claro como, más o menos, descifrar los mensajes de los papelitos así que me dirigí a la casa del vecino para coger mi mochila y subir la montaña. Una vez preparada, inicié la ruta, sinceramente no sabía a dónde iba, pero sí sabía que todos esos papelitos y toda esa historia tenía algo de sentido. La subida era bastante pendiente y me estaba cansando, iba haciendo pequeñas pausas para respirar y beber agua. Lo bueno es que el camino era totalmente recto y no había manera de perderse. Ya llevaba unos cuarenta minutos andando y, no sé el motivo, me notaba exhausta y mareada. De pronto comencé a ver puntitos negros hasta que noté que mi cuerpo empezaba a levitar. En aquel instante me hallaba suspendida en el aire y lo que yo veía era un fondo totalmente negro, un negro tan sólido que no podía ni percibir mi propia sombra. Estuve un breve momento mientras no pasaba absolutamente nada hasta que empecé a oír voces, voces que me eran familiares. Me recordaban a la de mi madre y mi padre, había otras voces pero para mí eran desconocidas, todo cambió cuando empezaron a salir imágenes en ese espacio negro, imágenes de quien parecía ser el vecino en las que salía una escena donde yo era un bebé y el vecino me estaba regalando a… ¡¿ Mis padres?!

Así que, el vecino era realmente mi padre, ¿¡ o cómo va esto!?

Pero ahí no acababa todo, el vecino empezó a hablar:

<Hola John, - dijo mi madre - mire, estoy embarazada de dos meses y estamos visitando este pueblecito, me gustaría tatuarme algo en el ombligo para celebrar mi primer embarazo, por ejemplo… una mariposa, ya que su furgoneta está personalizada con mariposas.

De acuerdo. - dijo John

Luego John dijo algo más:

Señores, os propongo un trato.

Diga John - dijo mi madre

Os regalo a la niña a cambio del tatuaje gratis, por cierto, yo la he llamado Gema pero si le queréis cambiar de nombre podéis.

De momento no nos interesa, gracias. - aceptó mi madre

Por lo tanto, mi madre se hizo el tatuaje y se fueron a… ¡¿StoneRock Mount!?

Súbitamente, las imágenes se desvanecieron. Pasó un rato y volvieron a aparecer, y esas las voy a describir un poco diferentes porque son bastante impactantes: Caroline y Michael, mis padres ‘’adoptivos’’, se dirigieron a StoneRock Mount

y justo en el punto donde estoy ahora mismo levitando, Caroline empezó a llorar de dolor y resulta que el bebé no se mantuvo con vida debido al tatuaje de mariposa. Después de ese momento Michael llevó a mi madre en brazos hasta la clínica más cercana. Allí estuvo unos días recuperándose y cuando estaba completamente recuperada salió y fueron a la furgoneta del tatuador otra vez.

Hola John, vengo a buscar a la niña, le llamaremos Emma si le parece bien.

¿Así que esta es la historia de mi infancia? Aún no me lo creo. Estoy impactada.

Ya eran las ocho de la tarde y decidí bajar de nuevo al pueblo. Llegué a la casa del vecino, John, y le expliqué todo. Él, desde el principio, ya me había reconocido por mis ojos tan azules y lo que él quería era que yo lo descubriera por mí misma, y lo ha conseguido. De hecho he decidido que me quiero quedar aquí, en este pueblecito con John ya que es mi verdadero padre, pensando que mis padres me escogieron por una pérdida y no porque, en un principio, quisieran. Mañana tendré que volver a Wormwood a hacer maletas para mudarme aquí.

He intentado preguntarle a John sobre mi madre biológica, él no me ha querido responder así que supongo que me quedaré con esa duda. Ahora, solo me queda encontrar la llave de esa última duda y tendré todas mis puertas abiertas.

However, this attempt backfired, as Omega's energy turned self-sustaining and instead of dividing it, Rogue and Mimic replicated it, which meant as a substitute of having one bomb now they had three bombs.
