EXCUSE ME I only got to the first panel and had to scream
HELLO! YUKITO AND TOUYA HELLO!! PEAK COUPLE SPOTTED. EXCITEMENT MAXIMUM.
But I suppose I should actually read the page too.
UPDATE. IT IS EVEN MORE WILD THAN BEFORE SOMEHOW.
WHAT DO I EVEN DO WITH THIS?!
Where do we even start.
Yuuko’s talking about the Jam Jar and explains that it was “entrusted to me by the flesh and blood relations of the two of them.”
And the [two of them] seems to be referring to Lava Lamp’s parents, judging by the rest of the page (unless there are even MORE Syaorans and Sakuras floating around but I'm not even considering that yet). But immediately PULL THE BREAK. PULL EVERY BREAK. LET’S STOP RIGHT HERE. 
The panel that mentions the “blood relations” of [the two of them] shows Touya and Yukito from behind. Touya and Yukito specifically in regular, modern clothes. 
And I completely lose it.

THAT IS 100% THEIR CARDCAPTOR SAKURA VERSIONS IS IT NOT?!
AND LIKE OK.

We’ve done this dance before.
Lava Lamp’s backstory was FULL of references that seemed to imply (on purpose) that Cardcaptor Sakura was the origin of his parents, with JUST enough small inconsistencies to show that that’s PROBABLY not actually who they are, YET THEY CONTINUED to tease it as the real answer.
And EVEN HERE they're doing it again. 
They show us a Touya and Yukito who 1 to 1 look like their Cardcaptor Sakura counterparts, in modern clothing - but FROM BEHIND, to add a little bit of doubt. The story is lining up all the pieces so that once again it looks like CCS Touya and Yukito gave Yuuko the Jam Jar - and that it's potentially CCS Sakura and Syaoran in the Jam Jar, who have never met Yuuko, but still turned back time, even if it meant “distancing themselves from their own children”. 
AND THEY EVEN SHOW YOU THEM, SAKURA AND SYAORAN as Lava Lamp’s parents BUT FROM A DISTANCE, SO YOU CAN’T POSSIBLY TELL FOR SURE EXACTLY IF THEY’RE WHO YOU THINK THEY ARE OR NOT. 
MORE - THEY SHOW US THE MAGIC CIRCLES. Sakura stands on Syaoran’s magic circle and Syaoran stands on CARDCAPTOR SAKURA’S MAGIC CIRCLE. And even though people argue with me over this I will stand by the fact that we have canonically only seen this magic circle for Cardcaptor Sakura at this point in the story. It is her UNIQUE magic circle she created on her own. That’s the only place we have seen it. 
And, yes! From a wider universe perspective it’s possible that Sakura’s Unique Magic Circle is Actually Not Unique and Other Sakura’s Also Have The Same Magic Circle, but we don’t know that yet. We've seen Xing Huo, for example, using the Reed magic circle. Which could be for many many reasons, but on the simplest level it's an example of Another Sakura using a magic circle that is Not the one implied to be unique to Cardcaptor Sakura.
And do I think Lava Lamp's mother is Cardcaptor Sakura? No!
But what we do know is that Clamp are having the TIME OF THEIR LIVES showing us glimpses of symbols and characters KNOWING That it all points directly towards Cardcaptor Sakura
 EVEN THOUGH IT COULDN’T REALISTICALLY BE HER. But with enough doubt in place for the thoughts of "OR COULD IT?" to be just as valid at this point.
EVERY PIECE OF THIS IS ON PURPOSE AND I AM GOING RABID OVER IT. 
AND JUST. Even though I know it’s most likely not actually them, is just genuinely so much fun to see them that I don’t even mind. 
Lie to me Clamp! Lead me to the wrong conclusion! I will have a fantastic time even if I don’t actually believe you. 
Also I am absolutely not receiving any comments that clarify who they are at this time thank you.

Cupid's death in this issue made me go back on his tag and realize that the cat he hates in particular is one of Comorrantpaw's siblings. Which combined with the story of how a family of raccons was responsible or helping him after the trap incident and how Cupid had a falling out with his family, Raz do you mind elaborating on the background character lore a bit or is that too spoiler-ish?
Also I'd love to know more about how his relationship with Rainhaze was and why he thought of talking to this guy everyone else seems to ignore because of his disgusting clean up job

Cupid dislikes Partidge because he felt that Partridge turned his family against him (of course, the reason they turned against him was because he joined a death cult).

Y'all I'm gonna be honest, when I get asked about "fun fact" questions I make absolutely all of them up on the spot. With background characters especially I don't tend to really think that much about any of them beyond their presence in the story.
With that said Cupid's favorite food is apple cider beetles.

said is NOT DEAD. our brains have seen it so much that when reading dialogue, it just glosses over it. if you don't want to detract from the dialogue, USE SAID. other words might ground the reader a little too much and lose a bit of immersion.

Said Is Not Dead
Of course not! "Said" should still be your go-to speech tag, the benefit being that it flows best. I find it nice to have a larger working vocabulary when it comes to expressing speech, though, and I think many writers would agree! It's one thing to use "said" because you know it's the best word choice and another to keep using it because you can think of no alternative.
Having said that:
". . . Don't tell me your character 'excaimed,' 'stated,' or 'replied.' When in doubt, just use 'said.' That's all. Maybe they 'answered.' They certainly did not 'retort.' You can use 'said' more often than you think . . . it's one of those words that takes a while before it starts sounding repetitive." -- Ariel Gore, How to Become a Famous Writer Before You're Dead

Who’s a character you believe is so unnecessarily demonized in the TWST fandom?

By the fandom? There really isn't much of a competition to this since all the characters are demonized in their own ways, but if I did have to pick, I do think all of the Octavinelle trio are unnecessarily demonized.

A lot of people give the octavinelle trio insanely... iffy headcanons. Most "fans" characterize the three to be some insane psychopathic murderous maniacs, while I simply believe they are three mischievous high school boys who have a thing for business (i.e. running the Mostro Lounge), since that's sorta, Octavinelle's thing, you know.

The reason why I chose the octotrio out of others is because it's the content I've been seeing the most. Despite all three of them being just 17, each of them have a HIGH amount of "yandere AU" or "murderer AU" fanarts and fanfics. For Azul, for example, a lot of the times people see him as some kinda demonic mafioso kinda guy, but we have to realize he's still a school student. he may be mischievous but he went through a lot. For the Leech twins, I wanna say that LORD THEY ARE SO DEMONIZED. I always see Floyd's mood swings get demonized, and even FETISHIZED at the same time?? Floyd fans are unreal. As for Jade fans, you all need to stop making him act like some creep, because he really isn't. Overall, the octotrio is definitely at my top rank of "most demonized" and probably in my rank of most sexualized too if we're at it 😓

So can you explain what’s bad about the color values of the spindle horse cast? I don’t see what it’s doing wrong and it never occurred to me that these values might be bad. Like I don’t know how to know if i’ve designed a character to have good values.
Sure! I don’t mind at all
I’ll go into this in more depth for the actual rant, but the reason why the values suck in both the Hazbin and Helluva cast is because there’s little to no variety in the shades of color Vivziepop uses. As a result, all the values are nearly the same and the characters just sorta blend into the background, which is not good when you consider that the backgrounds also have little to no variety in color.
Value in character design is important for multiple reasons, but something Value in character design also helps with is making your designs accessible to colorblind people. There’s even a HH/HB critical who talked about how inaccessible the colors are in both Hazbin and Helluva because of the lack of variety in color. (I’m sure there’s more colorblind people who talked about this, but I’ve only seen one critical being this up specifically)
So to answer your question, that’s why I mentioned the values in HH/HB were unbelievably bad. If you want to see a video that deep dives into values (or at least talks about them) I recommend this video

In which, kaiser's shit eating grin morphes into jealousy with just a little of your attention directed to someone else.

"mihya! ♪" a sing-song voice rang bastard munchen's cafeteria, paired with his 'stupid and arrogant' face. (kaiser's words not mine)
he looked around and spotted the ocean blue eyes of the newcomer, isagi yoichi. the boyish one that he grew to be fond of.
a smile made its way to his lips as he approached Isagi. he was sitting alone, and now the glorious angel that came down from the heavens, y/n he just couldn't let that happen now, could he?
"excuse me?" his tone completely different from the annoying tone he had when calling out to kaiser, now he was speaking with a somewhat normal voice.
isagi turned his head and greeted at him. "hm? 'need something, l/n?"
"no, not much. 'just looking for mihya."
"..mihya? oh. kaiser?" isagi's voice instantly soured, but kept his composure.
with a sigh Isagi spoke again, "no. i haven't seen him anywhere. how about you just sit with us?" a little bit of selfishness never hurt anyone, right?
that's how you and isagi ended up laughing and talking all together. although you were a bit.. narcissistic; it was bastard munchen. what did you expect from their players?
overall he had a great time with isagi! however, a certain duo-colored male had been glaring daggers into the back of your and isagi's head.
the loud voices felt like the two were mocking kaiser. how annoying.
"oh! and along with my pretty face, i know I'm one heck of a player!" boasting your skills more than you should've, isagi didn't say anything. even though the narcissism was leaking behind that fake ass pretty boy exterior.
tch. kaiser would've said something if he was there. oh yeah. he was micheal kaiser. why shouldn't he barge in?
"your honor, that statement is false" kaiser's 'global warming causing' smirk came into the view of both, having two completely contrasted expression. one with a delighted and fond look, and the other having a soured and annoyed face.
"hm? you think so? well, as much as i love you, you're spitting nonsense, mihya ♪" a playful smile planted on his face, weirdly twisting kaiser's gut and he grabbed y/n by the wrist without a word and glared into yoichi's soul. what a poor fellow.
"why're you even with that pathetic excuse of a striker?"
"cause' hes cool. what's it to you, mihya? jealous? are you falling for me already?" he was teasing the poor boy to no end that even isagi felt pity for him. not for long considering what he just heard out of kaiser's mouth and deciding to speak up.
"tch. what's your problem, shitty clown?"
"the problem is you, striker."
the didn't have the heart to stop both of them, why would you? you're too great for that.
he walked off without a word and happily trotted to the bathroom. he was feeling too lazy to change after he trained and ate before showering.
not long after, kaiser walking in. y/n was submerged into the public bath down to his nose. for some reason the guy looks better when his hair was wet, but who was gonna tell him that? absolutely no one.
"why were you with yoichi?" the emperor called out with that tone of his.
"i was gonna ask him if he saw you but he invited me to sit with him, mihya. did ya miss me? ♪"
"tch, you wish." how cruel for him to even say that with a smirk, but the other grown used to his non caring facade and brushed it off as kaiser being in a bad mood.
a chuckle escapes his lips, ended up choking on the public bath water.
and the dick head, micheal kaiser, did not do shit and just watched. as if he was holding a grudge for hanging out with yoichi.
and he had the audacity to take him by the chin after the other was done choking on water.
"oh? you falling for me already? can't take it when you're not looking at me?" that teasing grin made it's way to your mouth, the same smile that kaiser wanted to wipe of that pretty face of yours. (hes not elaborating how)
"you really are a narcissist asshole, huh?"
"you love that 'bout me and you know it ♪"
then he left him with a confused mind, since he didn't reply to that quip of his.

the two were in the locker room with only one thought in mind, to win the game. kaiser was looking at himself at the mirror while you were whining about how sweaty you'd be after the game.
the two way too close to be just friends nor teammates and the others were glancing at both with a look that read 'kiss already and it over with'.
"mihya! are you even listening?"
"i never was."
"but anyways, you're lucky to be in my presence and hear me listen to my gorgeous voice."
an ugly scowl made its made to kaiser's face and just brushed him off as if he was an insect, but still remained close.

"We get a medal and cake, I could get used to that," Buck whispers in his boyfriend's ear.
He’s enthusiastic, almost brimming with energy, it’s adding to the delicate whiff of his breath on Tommy's skin. A stimulating mixture, alas, it’s the wrong time and place for this kind of thoughts. Tommy just smiles, clutches his plate of cake and wishes the celebrations would come to an end.
Buck is quite distracting. Since he has this medal around his neck, he looks like a Labrador puppy who has been given his first treat. That's a praise kink, for sure, and Tommy just knows he's gotta store this information deep in his mind. Most of all, the man just looks so happy. So content. Tommy never knew that seeing someone else so happy could be so important to him. He looks at Buck – his boyfriend, for goodness sake, how did that actually happen? – and his throat constricts, and it has nothing to do with the fact that he has stuffed far too big a piece of cake into his mouth.
Tommy is nervous for reasons not entirely clear to him. This accolade is superfluous, he thinks, and maybe it has something to do with that; after all, what they did was a certain gray area. However, a small voice inside him is more indicative of the people who are here today. Gerrard is here, for example. And Tommy, known to be so confident, so serene, realizes that he is not quite so calm inside.
Buck is, of course, responsible for this. Evan. A name that melts in the mouth like the sweetest candy. A man that has melted Tommy’s heart, in several ways. But also the reason for his restlessness. Buck is so excited, so happy, but also... sensitive, in a very good, but vulnerable way. And Tommy would hate to see that happy face crumble over a stupid remark.
Tommy feels Buck's hand on his arm. Damn, that uniform adds something to the man’s hotness, he’s hardly listening to the words tumbling out of this beautiful lips.
"... with Christopher, I'll be right back," Buck says.
He’s gone in a flash, and Tommy feels strangely lonely in a crowd of people to whom he should also belong. It’s nobody’s fault but his own he still feels disconnected. He’s used to not getting too involved with people. This façade has crumbled quite a bit since he started dating Evan, though.
He gives himself a jolt and wanders around, the plate of cake still firmly in his hand, without actually knowing exactly what kind of cake it is and how it tasted. Hearing his name startles him, he almost drops it.
"Tommy!"
This is Hen and her wife Karen. He remembers Hen talking about her. She looks nice. So why is he nervous?
"Hey," he says, undecided where to put the plate of cake, so he keeps clutching it. "Karen, right? You must be proud of Henrietta."
It's just small talk, harmless, but Tommy wonders why the two of them are ... scrutinizing him like that.
"Oh, I only call her that when she's up to something," Karen replies, smiling.
"Must have received her with Henrietta! then, when you found out about the ship," Tommy says, overemphasizing the name with raised brows.
They laugh, he feels like he's broken the ice, and Karen says, "I'm glad this achievement is being recognized. Yours, especially, Tommy. I'm glad you brought them all back in one piece."
"More or less," he shrugs, watching the women exchange affectionate glances.
That's us, he thinks, at some point. A pleasant idea for someone who – perhaps for a moment – thought that the 118’s pretty boy was just in for a one-night stand. This turned into a few nights, the best nights Tommy can imagine, and he found out that Buck is, contrary to the rumors, a man for more. Tommy can think of a lot more.
"We wanted to talk to you about something," Hen interjects, and now they exchange another look, but Tommy can't quite interpret it.
"Oh?" he says, something's up, clearly, and he holds on to his plate like a lifeline for some reason.
"We're happy for you, really," Karen says, and Hen cocks a brow as she looks at her wife.
"Why the telling off, then?" she asks.
"Never said I'm not happy for them, Hen."
So, Karen is clearly the strict one in this relationship, fine, but they both seem to have forgotten that Tommy is still there, and he blinks in confusion.
"I’m not sure what…" he starts, but Karen cuts him short, and now her whole demeanor says this is serious.
"We care for Evan," she says. "Extended family, so to speak. He means a lot to Hen, and therefore he means a lot to me, and we don't want him to get hurt."
"I don't intend to..."
Karen raises a hand, now she strangely looks like his elementary school teacher, and Tommy sees Hen gently push her hand down.
"He's been hurt a lot," she continues. "And all of this is new to him."
"We've suspected for years that he's not as straight as his girlfriends suggested," Hen interjects, and now the tension drops noticeably, and they share a laugh.
"Just be good to him," adds Karen.
Looking at her, Tommy thinks how strange it is to hear this from a woman he has only known for two minutes, but that she’s so right. He wants nothing more than to be good to, good for Evan.
"I promise."
Tommy feels like his voice doesn't quite belong to him, and there must have been something in it that softens the faces of the two women in front of him.
"That's all I need," Hen says warmly, patting Tommy's shoulder encouragingly, "and if you ever need help, come to us."
"Help?" asks Tommy with a crooked smile, slightly confused.
"Oh, you don't even realize what you've gotten yourself into yet. Evan Buckley is a force of nature."
Giggling and waving, the two walk on and Tommy stays behind, blinking. A force of nature, yes, that's for sure. He looks at the cake on his plate, realizes he's had his thumb in it the whole time and licks it, indecently reminded of Evan again. Where is that man anyway? Tommy looks around and sees him sitting at a table with Christopher, and it's unclear who’s talking whose ears off.
Indecisively, he moves in this direction, carefully avoiding Bobby. They only locked eyes for a minute, and the captain instantly had a look on his face that said "he needs the talk."
However, he can't quite escape Athena, the woman suddenly builds up in front of him saying, "Tommy! I hope you have a minute later, Bobby and I would love to chat."
They've already thanked him for the rescue in private, but of course that was before they knew about him and Buck, so Tommy knows exactly – thanks in part to Hen and Karen – what kind of conversation this is going to be.
"Sure," he says with a disarming smile and escapes her for now.
He doesn't get far, because there are Howie and Maddie, arms linked (God, all the couples here are so sweet).
"Oh, Tommy," Maddie says, and Howie next to her just goes, "Uh-oh, Tommy."
Maddie gives her husband a stern look, and he continues, "She wants to give you the Buck talk."
"You'll have to get in line."
Howie laughs, while Maddie looks confused. Fortunately, Buck arrives at this moment as if he’s heard his name, and as always it seems like the sun rises for Tommy. Buck is still pretty wound up, and although Tommy knows the man can take care of himself, he also knows he's going to need some time to calm down after all of this.
"Oh God, that's his Tommy face, let's go," Howie says, pulling Maddie aside before she can say anything.
If that's his Tommy face, then... Tommy's throat is getting tight again, and he hasn't touched the cake for a while. Buck, at any rate, looks at him with shining eyes, an almost longing smile, his head slightly tilted, his hair a little tousled; damn, Tommy wants nothing more than to press a kiss to those tender lips right now. He clears his throat.
"All good?" he asks.
Buck's expression changes slightly, his smile deepens.
"I'm doing great, what about you?" he asks quietly as he puts a hand on Tommy's arm.
The touch burns in the best way possible. Before Tommy can answer, Gerrard approaches. There’s the hint of a frown on Evan’s face, and Tommy braces himself. His boyfriend seems to notice the tension in his muscles, because he gives him a look that is not just affection, but... understanding.
"Buckley, Kinard," says Gerrard, "good job."
Quite a bit of praise from this man's mouth, and many years ago that would have been important to Tommy. Evan has witnessed the man himself, but many things he knows only because Tommy has told him, and Tommy already knows what he thinks about the former captain.
"To Tommy's credit," Buck says. And then he looks at Tommy, puts an arm around him, and Gerrard's eyes go wide as he adds, "I'm extremely proud of my brave boyfriend."

Well, the hate-posting has officially picked up pace since my last two posts.
To the nonnies who came into my inbox to tell me how delusional I am for shipping Buddie, how you laugh at me and other Buddie-fans, how Eddie will meet a woman in s8 and get together with her, how the Lou and Oliver interview proves BT endgame...
I only wish all of you all the best in the world. If you truly believe all of these things? That is your god-given right. The right to your own opinion. The right to free speech.
I don't believe on hating on people in their own spaces, but I do strongly believe that I have the right to my own opinion and the right to talk about it in my own blog, hence the reason why I never tag any actor, character or ship that I'm not talking favourable about. I keep it in my own space. But of course a post sometimes escapes my carefully curated bubble. I'm truly sorry for that, but that is just how Tumblr works, I'm afraid.
Please refrain from wasting all of our precious time by posting these futile and nonsensical messages. I won't reply to them anyway and if it is a way to rile me up and make me act up, like you are doing in my inbox? I can assure you it won't work.

Vox as an Abuse Victim
So here is that massive Vox post I promised, a day late for...reasons. I swear I have been working on this post for days, even before that StaticMoth discourse influx in my inbox.
After making my post about Vox and Angel and reading @deeply-unserious-fellow's post about a similar topic, I thought it might be finally time to make this post. Most people who have seen my content know how I typically portray StaticMoth. I have mixed feelings about Valentino at the best of times and outright dislike him at the worst. But frankly this post isn't actually about him (well, mostly). It's about Vox and why I am really hoping that Viv keeps the angle of Vox being an abuse victim.
TW for domestic abuse, physical violence, implied sexual abuse, abusive relationships, gaslighting/victim-blaming, and other canon-typical triggers. Contain abusive StaticMoth.
Honestly? The primary reason I hope she keeps it is because it would make him an even more complex character and bring attention to a criminally underrepresented group: abuse victims who are also bad people.
As pointed out in the post I tagged above, the world has become obsessed with this idea of a "palatable" victim, the poor suffering cinnamon roll. An abuse victim is expected to look like a victim. You're supposed to instantly feel sorry for them and want to protect them...but that's not so easy when the victim is someone who also hurts people, is it? It's not so easy to pretend they didn't do bad things too...but they are still a victim. That does not change just because they are a bad person. And thus it becomes complicated and interesting. Because it's not so easy to root for the victim when they're also victimizing others, especially when those others are people we care about...like Angel Dust. At the bare minimum, Vox is doing nothing to stop Valentino from abusing Angel or any of his other employees. Having Vox be a victim of the same abuse that Angel Dust suffers (at the hands of the same abuser no less) and yet also being someone who enables Angel's abuse creates a very complicated situation.
In a most media, the discovery of a mean/bad person being abused is frequently portrayed in a "well, they were abused so you can't be mad at them anymore" kind of light. Like "see? They're just an asshole because they were being abused! Now that we know, they're suddenly a good person!" Except that's not how it works. Someone can be a bad person and also be a victim. And even if them being an asshole was the result of their abuse, those behaviors and the consequences of those behaviors don't just vanish. They still hurt people and frankly I would riot if it came out that Vox was being abused by Valentino and then everyone in the show just up and forgave him for being an asshole. Like...no? He would still need to make up for his own shit and actually work towards being a better person. I like this character because he's an unapologetic asshole. If making him a victim takes that away, then that would be such a missed opportunity.
In fact, one thing I find interesting is that I definitely believe that Vox would have no problem admitting to being a bad person, but would rather fight an exorcist alone than admit to being a victim. His ego won't allow for it. He would probably laugh in your face and call you delusional while literally having a broken screen. Because he can't admit it, even to himself. He would see it as a sign of weakness and that's not acceptable to him (side note that being a victim does not make you weak, that's just what Vox's toxic mindset tells him). While I am fairly certain that he would have moved on from most 1950s mindsets since he is all about the future and progress and moving forward, toxic masculinity is still very much a thing today and I can definitely see him embodying it in some aspects, like needing to appear strong and in control at all times (and Hell's power hierarchy definitely encourages this mindset, so...). Fuck, even now in fucking 2024, men still have a hard time being taken seriously as the victims of abuse. Unless of course you fit a certain mold.
Angel Dust is the perfect example of this. He is a palatable male victim. He's effeminate, he's funny, he's friendly, he's caring, and we actively see him miserable in his suffering. Despite being in Hell just like the rest of them and having been a former mafia member and clearly able to stand on his own two feet it combat, his victimhood is constantly on display and the audience wants to protect and save him. On the opposite end, Vox is shown in a position of power that is constantly reinforced. He's an Overlord, he's manipulative, he's cruel, he's greedy, and he enables abusive behavior from others. He is not a palatable victim, which is why it's perfect.
Now let's get into what I believe is the actual evidence that this dynamic could still be present.
Something I see people commonly say is that Vox being abused by Valentino doesn't make sense because why wouldn't Vox just fight back? He could just shock Valentino into next Tuesday? And to these people I kindly say fuck you. Because while physical strength can be a factor in abuse, it is very rarely the thing that keeps the victim from leaving. Abuse, even when physical, is heavily psychological. It's like telling a victim "well, why didn't you just leave?" It's not that easy. Abusers tend to target those with low self-esteem and it's made pretty clear that Vox is a very insecure person (I feel the need to point out that having an ego and having high self-esteem are not the same thing, in fact having a big ego is typically a side effect of very low self-esteem). It's entirely possible that Vox makes the conscious decision not to fight back because he's afraid of what will happen if he does. He's afraid Valentino will leave. We know Valentino is just as mentally and emotionally abusive to those around him as he is physically abusive and we have actively witnessed him playing into Vox's insecurities and mentally messing with him (specifically in the events leading up to "Stayed Gone").
So let's talk about the scene leading up to "Stayed Gone," because I also see Vox's behavior towards Valentino here used as justification for why it's not possible for Valentino to be abusing Vox. Full disclosure, I myself in the past have even thought that it demonstrated them being mutually abusive towards each other, but have since changed my opinion after reading more takes and doing further analysis. Having rewatched this scene many times now, I have some observations.
There's a small moment that always caught my attention when I watched this scene because I wasn't sure what it meant, but looking at it in the context of this post, I think I can see a possibility. When Vox goes to see Valentino, he approaches the doors and they are opened for him by Valentino's servants. Vox pauses in the doorway, glances at them, then continues on inside.

What was the point of this moment? It seems out of place. Surely Vox has gone to Valentino's room before? Surely this door opening thing isn't new? And looking at Vox's face here, he looks...concerned? Like...they might hear what goes on inside? And he maintains that expression even as he enters the room, like he doesn't like that those two are out there and might hear them.

It also makes the entire situation feel so routine. Like Valentino is upset and these girls just expect Vox to show up and take care of it. And the scenes prior to this also sets it up as a normal occurrence. Vox rearranges his entire schedule to deal with Valentino, like he absolutely expects this situation could take up the rest of his day. And Valentino clearly doesn't listen to Velvette in this regard as she had to call Vox to come deal with Valentino despite him wrecking her department. Her comment even further establishes this as normal when she tells Vox that Valentino is "up in his tower, waiting for a flat-faced prince to calm him down." And when Vox arrives? "FUCKING FINALLY!" All of this sets up a standard situation: when Valentino is upset, it is Vox's job to calm him down and make him feel better. Valentino is a full grown adult and yet he has made it someone else's problem to manage his emotions.
Then of course we have the classic moment of Valentino literally throwing his glass at Vox only seconds after Vox has arrived. And this has to have been a conscious decision, because right before that, he throws his first glass on the ground before demanding another. So if he wanted to just break something, he didn't need to throw it at Vox, but he did. And I definitely don't think he cared if Vox got out of the way or not. But how easily Vox moves aside tells us that he fully expected to have things thrown at him and was ready for it. Now, I do believe that Valentino would throw shit at literally anyone when he is mad, but the key here is that Vox, his supposed friend, on-and-off lover, and business partner, is not exempt from this behavior. He even breaks Vox's phone when he realizes Vox is not paying attention to him. He has no qualms breaking Vox's property just to soothe his rage (I would also like to point out that he fucking obliterated that thing; just how hard did he fucking throw it?!).
Something in this scene that did initially throw me as I was writing this is that Vox doesn't seem particularly afraid of Valentino. Not the way we see Angel is when Valentino gets angry. We also see him actively get angry with Valentino, get in his face, and manipulate him. In the past, I believed this behavior from Vox to have established their relationship as mutually abusive. However, after reading yet another post from @deeply-unserious-fellow, I realized that everything Vox does here is only in direct response to Valentino's tantrum.
So let's go through some things here. When Vox initially tries to tell Valentino he can't go to the hotel, Valentino straight up ignores him. Does not respond to Vox's words, completely carries on like he didn't even speak. From this point on, Vox takes an entirely different approach to the situation. He manipulates Valentino into thinking that not shooting up the hotel is his idea and even offers further appeasement in the form of shooting his own employees as a method to satisfy Valentino's temper. I admit to initially viewing this as Vox being abusive, but frankly, when your options are being manipulative or letting your business partner go shoot up a hotel that houses the literal Princess of Hell, yeah, I'd take the manipulation route. Because, as I pointed out above, Vox cannot actually control Valentino. He tries to give him an order and is completely ignored. And even when he does successfully manipulate him, he still has to appease him in some capacity.
Now, there's also something here that is often played for shits and giggles, but I'm taking it 100% seriously right now. Many people point out that Vox's screen gets brighter when he gets in Valentino's face. Valentino is a moth demon and after Vox does this, he seems to be dazed for a moment, enough for Vox to rapidly switch back into manipulator mode and does his thing. It seems to have snapped Valentino out of his rage and I literally can't help but think that Vox has learned this as a defense mechanism. Valentino can't see very well, so it's very likely Vox's hypnotism doesn't work on him, so Vox had to find other ways of manipulating him and calming him down when he's in one of his rages.
Something I also want to point out is that it is made very clear through a single solitary moment that Valentino is in no way afraid of Vox. When he tells Vox about Alastor, Vox screams in his face, manhandles him, and Valentino just...pushes him off and saunters away, grinning like the cat that caught the canary. He doesn't even look upset or concerned when Vox grabs him. He just...laughs it off...like he knows Vox won't actually hurt him. Because I genuinely think Vox won't. Later in the episode, we hear Valentino's voicemails to Angel Dust and how he's emotionally manipulating him, telling him he can't really get better. I wouldn't be surprised to find that he's given Vox a similar treatment, especially considering that it's obvious Valentino knew what kind of reaction he would get out of Vox by bringing up Alastor. And sure, he brushes it off with a kink joke, but in all seriousness, why did Valentino keep Alastor's return from Vox? We know Angel has been at the hotel for a little while and Alastor has been involved with it as of a week prior to the beginning of season 1, so why suddenly bring it up? It's almost like he was specifically holding onto this information, waiting for the perfect time to use it that would be the most beneficial to him.
There's also another little scene that always caught my attention. It's when Valentino is getting pissed about the shadow construct that Angel Dust is flirting with.

Valentino starts getting pissy again, demands Vox's attention, gets annoyed when he doesn't get it, then immediately switches to mocking and confident when Vox starts bitching about Alastor. Like...he's so fucking proud of himself for getting Vox all worked up over Alastor. Like it's some kind of game for him. Riling Vox up and messing with his emotions is fun for Valentino. Alastor dredges up some real shit for Vox and Valentino exploits it. And from here on, he just keeps egging him on. Now, I'm pretty sure "Stayed Gone" would have happened with or without Valentino, but the point here is that he is definitely playing with Vox's emotions here.
As for the not being afraid aspect, again, Valentino hasn't actually threatened him with something that truly scares him. I don't think he's afraid of what Valentino could physically do to him. It's more likely to make him mad than anything else, even if he doesn't fight back (he'll probably go take out his anger on someone else). The thing about Vox is that we see that he does not like to appear weak in any capacity and I think this extends well into his own psyche. If he admits, even to himself, that he's a victim...to him, that's admitting weakness and he just can't do that. So Valentino's not abusing him, they just had a fight. He didn't hit back because he's in control of himself and he knows he could totally toast Valentino. It's Vox's own fault for pushing his buttons when he knew Valentino was mad. It wasn't rape cause he never said "no".
TLDR: Vox can be both an asshole and an abuse victim and it would be a really interesting aspect to his character as long as the show does it right and doesn't scrap his assholeness to make him a more palatable victim. Show him being a victim and also victimizing others. Show him not wanting to accept that he has been abused. LET PEOPLE BE UNCOMFORTABLE WITH FEELING SORRY FOR HIM.

Sukuna found it difficult to concentrate on the plot of the movie playing on the screen when Uraume's words to him rang clear in his head instead. He didn't have any intention to hurt you, and after the accident that brought him to you, he didn't think he had the heart to inflict any kind of pain on you. It was unthinkable.
Rather than that, he wanted to do the complete opposite and keep you away from harm as much as he could. He had never met anyone apart from Uraume whom he wanted to be a human shield for, and you were gradually changing that for him. He hasn't seen the full extent of what lies behind your smiles, but he only wanted to see genuine mirth whenever he looks at you. And if he can be the reason why you're always happy, he will make it so you never feel otherwise.
He glanced at you and found you sleeping, your head leaning on his shoulder for support halfway through the film. You looked so peaceful when you sleep. You didn't belong in the world he lived in when you looked like a higher being altogether even in your unconscious state. And yet you did. Sukuna was glad.
In an attempt to make you more comfortable, he placed an arm over your shoulder, his hand holding onto the side of your head to keep you from falling. But then, he noticed everyone looking at him with sly grins on their faces.
"What?" he snapped, causing them all to look away except for Uraume who smirked at him as if he knew something everyone else didn't.
Sukuna ignored that and fixed his eyes on the TV, glancing at you from time to time to make sure your injured arm was in the right position. He ended up not watching the rest of the movie as he, too, dozed off, reveling in the feel of your silky hair between his fingers.

"Dude, wake up," he heard Yu's hushed tones. "Movie's over."
Sukuna blinked, adjusting to the sudden brightness of the room, noticing how everyone else was getting ready to leave. Taking out his phone, he checked the time, noting that it was already half-past midnight.
"Slept alright?" the vexing male asked him, making him frown when he realized where Yu's eyes were repeatedly glancing.
You were still asleep, snuggled to his side, your form seemingly infinitely smaller than his stature. Just then, your eyes opened and you blinked slowly. The sight was so adorable that he broke into a grin.
"Hey," he greeted you like a lover would, startled when Satoru suddenly squealed like a banshee.
You also straightened up, looking for the source of the sound, breaking the spell that seemed to have engulfed the room with the two of you staring at each other.
Sukuna suddenly felt cold when you distanced yourself from him, his arm tingling at the loss of contact between the two of you. But he concealed that by saying, "Ready to go home?"
"Sure."

a/n: I have mixed feelings about Grimshaw. I think she's a very enigmatic character. Still, based on interactions I've seen with her, I feel this isn't too far off. These always end up super long for some reason. Idk how that keeps happening. Anyway, I hope you enjoy; thanks for reading!

You and Abigail Roberts went way, way back. Working girls stuck to a code; part of that code was looking out for each other and ensuring you returned after one of your "shifts." Abigail ran away for a while, leaving you to assume she'd met a rich man and settled down.
When you met her again, she introduced you to Dutch Van Der Linde and company; you fell in with them shortly after. Since then, you constantly scrubbed blood from clothes, slept on the ground, and ate whatever game Pearson could find for the stew. Many girls you knew would never trade that life for this one, but you had a family to return to, even if they weren't the most conventional. And amidst it all, you'd found something you didn't think possible for you. 
You were drawn to Arthur Morgan instantly. The little things spoke volumes for you—how he checked on you in passing, the moments spent playing dominos together, and his overall politeness towards you. The bar was in hell, but he treated you so differently than any man ever had. Arthur's dumb cowboy act didn't fool you for a second, and you were captivated by him.
After one too many inadvertent shoulder grazes and incidental hand touches, the chemistry between you had become undeniable. Following a game of dominos he let you win, the stocky man asked you to take a walk with him. You weren't too far away from camp before you found yourself pressed against a tree by him in a heated kiss. So many thoughts swirled around your head. You were in the middle of nowhere; it was pitch black, and you were being hunted by the law, yet there against that tree was the safest you'd felt in a long time. 
Then, on another fateful night, you were alone with him at the campfire while everybody else had settled down. A sly smirk crossed his face, and he scooted closer to you, grabbing and kissing your hand. You giggled, maintaining eye contact as he kissed up your arm, gradually, a low groan escaping him. One thing led to another, and he guided you into his tent. You let him have you, and you, him. 
It was then, when you were on the brink of your climax, half-lidded eyes staring upward into his, that you finally understood what people meant by lovemaking. When it was all over, you got up to leave out of habit, but he drew you back into his arms and asked you to stay.
Since then, you've been his girl, and he made sure everybody knew, always kissing you before he left for a job, settling you into his lap at the poker table, or sneaking you away from your chores to spend time with him. You saw each other for what you were, not the labels that had been applied to you. And you loved him so much.
For the first time in a long time, your life was good. Well, mostly, except you hadn't quite mastered the life of navigating Ms. Grimshaw. Over the almost year you'd known her, she was rarely nice to you. She seemed more tame when Arthur was around, but he wasn't today.
By noon, you had gotten sick of hearing her voice, and she seemed more ornery than usual. The nagging was constant: do this, don't do that, do this faster, do this slower. You wished she'd shut the hell up and leave you alone. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, you saw her speed-walking towards you.
You were sitting, about to light a cigarette, when she approached, red-faced, huffing, and talking fast, "There you are," she started, putting a finger in your face. "Sitting around like always. I have had it with you!" You stood quickly out of instinct and opened your mouth to speak, but she cut you off. "You're useless around here, so why don't you go into town and start selling yourself again. At least then you'd finally be carrying your weight!" 
Her words stung like branding, making your heart race and your eyes sting. The few people left at camp had gone quiet. Mary-Beth looked on nervously while Karen was glaring at the older woman. Your heart pounded in your ears, and you spoke faster than your brain could process.
"All you're good for is being an ugly, hateful bitch." As soon as the words left your mouth, she swung on you. It was a backhanded slap that stung and broke the barrier, holding back your tears. You recoiled, holding your stringing face.
"Know your place, girl, before you end up somewhere worse than on your back. Now get!" She pointed towards the edge of camp.
"Screw you," you said, quickly wiping away a falling tear, "I'd rather fuck every man in town before I keep letting myself be treated like this." You stepped up to her, " Want me to leave? Well, I'm goin."
And you did. You collected what little belongings you had into a bag and charged out of camp, eyes forward and your head held high. Tilly and Mary-Beth tried to stop you, but you marched down the dirt path until they couldn't see you anymore.
"Look what you gone and did you old hag," Karen spat, "Oh, just wait til Mr. Morgan gets back. Bet you won't be so high and mighty then."

Arthur didn't ride in until sunset; he searched for you before even getting off his horse. His face fell confused by your absence, and just as he was about to inquire, Mary-Beth and Tilly approached. He knew instantly that something was wrong.
"What, what is it?" His eyes searched theirs. They looked at each other, silently debating who'd break the news to him. It was Tilly who stepped forward, putting a calming hand on Arthur's arm. She talked low and cautious, "Arthur, she—her and Ms. Grimshaw—they—" She was cut off by Karen and Ms. Grimshaw beelining towards them.
Karen's voice boomed, speech slurred. "Go ahead, tell 'em." She waved her beer-clutching hand between Arthur and Ms. Grimshaw, defiantly meeting Susan's gaze before tearing her eyes away to meet Arthur's. "That wench Grimshaw smacked her across the face and ran her out!"
Clenching his fist involuntarily, he leaned into Karen, talking low and steady. "The hell are you talking 'bout?" His chest was rising and falling quickly now.
Ms. Grimshaw stood resolute and waved him off. "This doesn't concern you, Mr. Morgan. This is my camp, and these are my girls and my rules," she finished, arms crossed, staring at Arthur.
Stepping close, he imposed his broad figure on Ms. Grimshaw, flashing a smile that was anything but inviting. He took on a tone he rarely used with the women.
"Oh, Susan, that's where me and you disagree. This may very well be your camp, and you can make up all the rules you want, but she's my girl." His face had straightened into a scowl by the time he finished.
"Well, I'll—" she began incredulously, hands still on her hips, but Arthur threw up a halting finger.
"Look, Ms. Grimshaw, I respect how you run this camp, but that girl, she's off limits. Now, I'm gonna find her and bring her back, and you can raise all the hell you want, but if you lay a finger on her again—" 
"Arthur..." Tilly cut in warningly. He squeezed his eyes shut and turned away, ending his conversation with Susan. "Where'd she go?" he asked no one and everyone at the same time, speed walking to his horse.
"She took off down the road," Mary-Beth called out, but his horse was already kicking up dirt. Riding as fast as he could, he reached the nearest town at record speed. He hitched the horse outside the train station, forcing the doors open with his shoulder. The place went quiet, everybody focusing on the sudden disturbance. Arthur ignored the looks he was getting, scanning faces for yours. Spotting you took no time, and you stood as soon as you recognized him. He rushed to you, taking your hands in his; concern riddled his face— a rare sight. Guilt washed over you as you looked up into his eyes; you opened your mouth to speak, but he started before you.
"You alright?" he asked, looking you up and down. Dirt had stained the hem of your skirt, and your eyes were tired; his frown grew as he looked you over. You wrapped your arms around him, pressing your head to his chest and nodding.
"Wasn't gonna go, just needed to get away for a while," you murmured into his chest. Rubbing your back soothingly, he exhaled with soft, relieved laughter. One arm still around you, he gently tilted your head to meet his gaze with his free one.
"Don't you go walking out on us. Least without tellin' me first."
You agreed with a quick bob of your head, and he pulled your chin in towards his, kissing you on the mouth. He withdrew and gestured to the bench you'd risen from earlier; you both sat. Arthur wrapped a big arm around you, and you buried your face into his shoulder.
"That woman hates me," you grumbled with a pout. Arthur squeezed you closer, and a faint grin formed on his lips.
"Nah, she never liked any girl I brought around. Give her more time." He scratched his chin thoughtfully. "It's all outta love, I think," he concluded. You huffed at that, disbelieving.
"She got a funny way of showing it."
"Sure," he chuckled again. He sat for another minute before gently nudging you off his shoulder. Grabbing your bag and standing, he asked, "So you gonna come back with me?"
You tried to sulk but couldn't when he was standing there waiting patiently with his hand out. You finally relented. 
"Fine, but I ain't just gonna take it next time," you declared, taking his hand. A big smile stretched across his face. 
"You ain't gotta do nothing you don't wanna. If any of those fools have a problem with it, send 'em to me." You made your way out of the train station, hand in hand. You paused, gazing at him with a quirked eyebrow.
"I can handle myself just fine, Arthur Morgan." Another chuckle built up in him as he threw your bag on the horse. He turned to kiss the top of your head before grabbing you by the waist and lifting you up on the horse.
"I know, darlin'."

Dead boy detectives characters as animals.
This, rather clearly, isn't a review. However, I am currently hyper-fixating on DBD; i'm talking eat, sleep, and breathe these people(Charles rowland you'll forever be famous). So, without further ado; the animals i've assigned them.
__________________ We already canonical animals assigned to two of the characters (shout out to Monty, you remind me of my girlfriend, Archie) but, what if they all had specific animals assigned to them. THIS ISN'T SLANDER I SWEAR. But, if you take it that way, that's brills.
Charles Rowland; Sugar glider / flying squirrel
-You're gonna look at me and say i'm wrong??, to hell with the golden retriever trope: We need more people who are simply the animals who shouldn't but do. Charles Rowland is that person, argue with someone else if you don't see the vision.
RIP Charles Rowland, you would've loved "am I gay/autistic" quizzes and the concept of being omnisexual.

-How does one spell his last name cause i've seen it spelt both ways, any-whom; I don't actually have any context for this but it just generally feels right. If he had to be any animal: I 100% believe it'd be a bat, more specifically that type of bat. Although; I do giggle at the relationship square he's got going on, especially after this list. 10 points voted to stoat though, cuties fr.

-Again; I do not have a genuine reason behind such a claim; but, actually nothing, but nothing. She's genuinely a sweetie & I will nvr stand for Crystal slander: she's simply a teenage girl with some issues dawg. BUT; fennec foxes are the animal of resemblance for her because I say so. (Headcanon: she absolutely had one at home & it'd be the most spoiled thing in the world; Crystal named her wisp.)

Niko Sasaki; Chinchilla / European polecat
-Y'all please see the vision. please. She's gen so chinchilla coded: if you look hard enough(I'm completely pulling this out of my arse.) This whole paragraph is gonna be complete spirals/rants(like always) but, dawg Niko was such a delight, like when I first saw the Netflix ad I was conflicted but she's such a darling. I shed so many tears over her 'death' because like, no. She's alive and very well.
RIP Niko sasaki, you would've loved the hurt/comfort tag on ao3 and making your friends get married in the sims.

Do you have any more thoughts about Alfred and how to make him a more interesting character? And there's this tag "Alfred Pennyworth is a Saint", got any opinions about that? And what about some different portrayals like the Gotham Tv version, the multiple versions from comics (usually either harsh, sarcastic and emotionally repressed stoic or openly affectionate, offering actual advice and kind), or the super nice and kind ones from the various movies (live-action and animated)?
there's a lot of contradictions when it comes to alfred's character, even within the scope of individual works (that including current canon... post-mortem too): he's supposed to be both harsh and kind, extremely competent and yet - out of picture to a degree, both fundamentally against the idea of batman (mocking it at times) and supportive of it, professional and a parental figure, conservative in appearances but progressive in acts... most importantly, he plays a role of a "sage" -- he is supposed to be simply right.
but you probably already know -- i'm very interested in characters being wrong.
and i'd say the best angle to approach alfred is simply based on the question of who he needs to be in bruce's story for it to work at all. and one of these requirements is that he is not really there. he cannot enter the action too often, even if writers want you to believe he's invincible. he cannot truly make the residents of the manor a family -- there ought to be some distance, because it's bruce's job to be a father (this is interesting in moench's pre-crisis run also... where it is very clear that alfred leaves raising jay to bruce.) and, most importantly, for bruce to become batman -- alfred ought to fail him to some degree.
and i reckon that's why we don't see much of bruce's childhood. there are some conflicting narratives irt leslie and alfred, even in the 80s - on the one hand, it is suggested that they *both* do not know how to handle bruce as a child; on the other hand, you're supposed to believe that there was no way to do that (and to absolve them of their fault). but i'm interested in a compromise... in acknowledging that none of them were equipped nor ready to take that responsibility, but also realising that there was more they could do. because i think that, for example, alfred's conservatism did intrude on the task of providing care. for example -- in some versions of bruce's childhood (isn't it fascinating that we don't even have one official version at this point in canon... it's always so elusive. but that's a topic for another post) he is sent to a boarding school. and that works. he's an old british guy, of course he'd think sending a child even at age 8-10 would be not only normal but also a good idea.
also -- alfred at times comments on bruce's inability to perform house chores, which is obviously a comic relief. but it's interesting because it's alfred who raised him. if bruce does not do his own laundry, or can't cook - that's quite literally on alfred. and again, i do believe it is plausible that alfred would not teach him any of these things. once more, the reason for that is his conservatism.
what i just said does not negate that alfred is a father to bruce and family to other children raised in the manor. however, i think that his own realisation that it is the case should come with some regret... &that his biases and the role of bruce's enabler are flaws that could make him interesting if it was take seriously.
however, there's still plenty of gaps that are hard to fill - for instance, why alfred is a butler at all, given his background (there were obv some attempts at explaining it -- i wouldn't say they were very successful). i know some of it is simply a matter of editors and writers throwing bits of amusing/surprising lore into the story without really considering the wider picture, but it is frustrating. his development was, after all, quite strange -- if you read first issues of batman/tec, you will notice he himself was mostly a comic relief. the whole concept of his links to military, for example, came later... so i had quite high hopes for pennyworth (the show) in that regards, but it did disappoint me. i wish we simply got a well-written mini?
a complete sidenote -- i also quite like how close alfred & damian grow to be. it makes a lot of sense (i do think alfred would be partial to the "biological" child + the way alfred carries himself & the routine he sticks to would be comforting for damian i think...)
