Ballads of Zimara: First Impressions
Honestly? I love it.
If anyone is thinking about coming back to the game, this is the expansion to do it.
Everyone's levels bumped up to 130 and we have a completely fresh start.
You'll still need to catch up to end-game, which does involve putting time into past questlines and gaining extra achievements, but once you're there?
I had a pretty easy time blowing through the signature line. I even used my old raid gear from last expansion which means all my old adornments didn't work anymore (BoZ uses purple adorn slots over red).
Heroics? Pretty easy to get into, too. Once you've run through the signature line and the solo dungeon zones, you should be close to the required resolve of 9555 for the beginner heroics. Even then if you're short, run some more solo dungeons and quests and you'll get there.
Now from what I have heard, H2s/Heroic 2s are much more difficult which good! There's still some challenges to be had.
The expansion is pretty to boot. They've got a great art team still around and they really shined in this expac.
Renewal of Ro was, let's face it, godawful and a disgrace to the franchise, but Ballads of Zimara is looking like it's going to redeem the game if the devs keep playing their cards right.
Let's see what happens!

Year of Darkpaw
Everquest II turns 20 this year! A tear long celebration starts today with all sorts of fun to be had and a new bedroom set for my Conjuror's winter home.
Even more people are still playing the original Everquest, which turns 25 this year.

TBT? Back to EQ2
Here we go again! Logging into EQ2 for the first time in forever...
EverQuest 2 and WoW both came out at a weird time for me. I had finally gotten into regular raiding in original recipe EverQuest, and that game was still healthy and full of players, so my motivation to jump ship was at an all-time low. I tried both and was thoroughly “meh” on both. I had played WoW in closed beta and knew it would be the juggernaut it quickly became at release. I didn’t get to…

So I said I would post pics of my decorating...
so here you go.
First, here's what the space looked like before I put anything in it:
Just a big, winter palace-y open space. And then...
Oop, things got different. In game lore wise, this house is located in Neriak, which is the underground cave city of the Tier'dal (the EQ2 version of Drow), so even though we're outside the house, still no sky.
Here's the front room. The lighting is wonky because I just have random lights placed to light up where I'm working at any given time. As you can see, I'm still working on the structure, so there's no actual furniture yet.
Here's the kitchen. Again, not a lot in the way of furniture yet. What I love about EQ2 decorating is that everything you use is customizable in terms of placement, rotation, size, whatever. So these walls are made out of the backs of cabinets, and the fireplace is made of chairs and some benches. The wainscoting in the picture of the living room is all bench backs, too. It really lets you do some cool things.
This is the library. Why is there only one bookcase in here?
Because it's a secret door! This leads down a spooky corridor to a lab and a cave garden.
In the conservatory now. The ceiling is still being done in here, as well as the last panel of windows.
The view of this little waterfall wall can be seen from the conservatory or the balcony of the parlor. It's one of my favorite parts of this house so far, and it was made completely from scratch with a variety of rocks, plants, and cleverly hidden fountains. The balcony is still very unsafe, as it has no railings. Norrath doesn't have OSHA.
Here's a behind the scenes shot of the structure. You can see the parlor, the top of the staircase, as well as the ceiling of the dining room (made with tables) and some other in-the-walls junk. Eventually, the area on top of the dining room will be the master bedroom.
Added a short flight of stairs to the master and picked a rug to use for the floor, which I'll lay more of to cover the entire room, and then it will be time to finish the upstairs walls.
That's as far as I've gotten today, and I think it's time for a break from screens for a bit. I've been making good time this weekend though so hopefully I can get the structure finished this week and then start planning furniture and accessory placement!
