being a starscream fan is always difficult because you have to navigate interacting with people who completely pacify him and excuse all his actions and paint him as a innocent person who can't be held accountable for the shit he does. and going as far as saying you excuse abuse if you try to hold him accountable for how he treats others. nevermind the fact that u yourself are an abuse victim and you wanna look at him multifaceted and you know, not excuse his abusive actions toward others.

but at the same time, you also have to navigate people who absolutely HATE him, and will act like they don't and claim they just see him critically, when most of their content is bashing him for his abuse, excusing it, saying he's an awful person and getting mad at people for seeing him as a victim or wanting him to have better. literally saying he deserves what happens to him. ike a lot of people will flat out slander him, while uplifting characters who are worse than him, will say that starscream doesn't deserve redemption, or saying that anyone who wants better for him is excusing him or worse, going out of their way just to be extremely unfair and critical to him.

it's difficult because i love starscream and i do see him critically. but it's hard being around people who will just pacify his actions, and then try to go to someone so you can have indepth convos about him only to realize that 'oh, this person actually hates starscream, they haven't said anything remotely positive about him'.

#esp like in tfp #then yeah i do get why people tend to be protective of the character #and i wa slike that at a point too #especially in prime and idw #but when i found myself excusing how starscream treated others -especially knockout #then i had to take a step back #and then in earthspark people got mad when you pointed out how poorly he treated others #and even in idw - he treats bumblebee and windblade like absolute shit and people just brush over it and also only care about bumblbee in #a sense where bumblebee only exists to take care of starscream and his problems and he can treat him anyway #the same thing happened with starscream and knockout #and when people just constantly excuse that and use the excuse that he has trauma #and that we can't hold him accountable then yeah that sucks #on the flip side you have people who only call out his flaws and are extremely hateful toward him and even blame him for his abuse #like yeah you have people who rightfully call out how shitty he treats others and are very keen to make sure that we know he isn't this inn #innocent person #but that is where it stops and they continue to hate on him #they get mad at him for his abuse and not u know mad at the person who is abusing him in fact many times they stan and defend that person #and all their content surrounded or focuses on starscream is extremely critcal and unfair #and only focuses on how bad he is and gives him absolutely no nuance or empathy #a lot of 'critical fans' of starscream really just care about shitting on him and slandering him and acting like he's the worst possible #person who deserves the abuse and the hate he got #and anyone trying to offer a nuance perspective and wanting him to be treated better is accused of 'woobifying him' when we're just saying #want him to be treated better #and it's like starscream is very complex and nuance and if you're going out of your way to slander him while uplifting other decepticons #if you are going out of your way to absolutely shit on him and give him no empathy or anything and shit on him and downplay what he went th #then you don't like the character and that's my issue #i haven't been able to find a really good balance #of fans akdjfl;afja #like it's either on one side or the other

heatwave and optimus are such an underrated comedic duo. every single time they are in the same vicinity as each other everything immediately goes to shit. this is i think because they are both primus's blorbos, and in true blorbo fashion, must suffer. greatly. anyway this leads to some very fun interactions such as:

heatwave, newly appointed leader of like every rescue bot, on his first day as a secret alien on earth, immediately deciding he wants to leave right after accepting optimus's orders. and when he can't do that, he starts talking to people because he has no fear i guess.

optimus prime, leader of the cybertronian race, chosen by primus, and guy who says "nothing much, double dutch" in response to an extremely casual greeting in a very formal situation in front of his child (heatwave), presumably to embarrass said child.

heatwave, recent student of optimus's old friend who is a respected and decorated war veteran as well as a long time rescue bot, calling optimus (WHO IS FRIENDS WITH THIS GUY) just to bitch at him.

optimus prime, protector of civilians and humanity, fully prepared to watch a game show (created by blades and chase) in which a human child gets electrocuted. (there was a misunderstanding involving the term "lightning round" in trivia).

heatwave, rescue team leader, assigned to protect humans, straight up just driving off a cliff into the ocean with no warning, with his human partner who is screaming, all to win a race.

optimus prime, by now nearly a godlike figure, adopted father of all the rescue bots, also a terrible communicator, ghosting his kids for four years (get it. ghost. bc he died.) and then not explaining ever.

like literally i could go on but they are total messes and it's hilarious. where is all the content of incredibly chaotic and weird father daughter bonding for heatwave and optimus. they are so funny.

(yes i meant to type daughter bc heatwave gives off eldest daughter energy ok. no other reason for the shit he pulls.)

while megatron is a natural carrier and has carried many times in his life, starscream isn't, has never carried and it's not something he can naturally do, even though he wants to do it. in a lot of my aus, esp my tfp aus, the two of them run into a lot of trouble when they get together regarding starscream and carrying. it's weird to him because seekers don't ever carry, they are great sires- he's carried with seekers before during the war and even a bit after. And like all seekers, megatron just realizes starscream can't carry naturally, but it's still a desire of his and while megatron has only ever carried, he doesn't mind siring for starscream just because of how close they are. or at least, attempting to. starscream has to get a lot of procedures done to do it, many failed and unsuccessful. It's a first for siring for megatron too but he wants to do it with starscream.

the point of this little fic and running au of mine is that, while starscream has so many difficulties carrying, megatron is there for him. with every failed procedure and how depressed starscream is, he tells starscream about his own experiences to make him feel better. starscream eventually asks about it, how it feels, what it's like, emergence, etc. and when things don't work for starscream the first few times, megatron is always there to encourage him, and he convinces starscream not to give up.

eventually, things do work out and starscream is able to carry multiple times, but starscream enjoys hearing a lot about megatron's experiences. Starscream also listens carefully to what Megatron says about his past. He had many relationships where he was happy with his partners, and he carried and he and those sparklings are in close contact, but there are some more somber stories, where Megatron's sparklings were taken away from him when he was in the mines, where he was only used as property to produce more miners and he's lost those sparklings. Or where shortly after he had his sparklings, his partners took them from him no trusting him to be a good carrier (during the war)

Obviously, Starscream takes it upon himself to track down megatron's missing children, the ones he's lost contact with, the ones he doesn't know, etc. This isn't something unique to my tfp stories, where this au started. In most of my fics, Starscream goes looking for all the children taken from Megatron while he was carrying.

But the gist of this is that, Starscream has a lot of issues and difficulties with carrying because seekers aren't built for it, but megatron is always there to help him and make him feel like less of a failure and also help him after his emergances, because it's incredibly difficult for starscream.

I’m back with more slightly disturbing thoughts about transformers.

Ok listen.

I think cybertronians should be more freaked out by the fact humans eat other living things.

Like come on, bots only ingest energon which is inanimate crystal juice, they’re regularly grossed out by normal organic functions, and you’re telling me they don’t bat at eye at the idea of their friendly little Sentient companions straight up killing other animals and eating them??? I feel like that should def cause more cognitive dissonance for them, esp autobots since they actually get close to humans.

Like I can see them being grossed out but accepting of the fact that wild animals eat each other- they are WILD animals and all, not exactly sentient or even necessarily intelligent after all. But HUMANS? The organic creatures that are the closest to them (going by tfp standards where they don’t mention many other organic species) in terms of structure and emotion and intelligence?? That has to be concerning on some level to them.

Referencing tfp and MTMTE where they have scraplets and sparkeaters, i feel like that’s what they’d kind of associate it with which would freak them out more. God forbid they hear about how common cannibalism is in survival situations, I don’t even know if they’d be able to sympathize the slightest bit with that considering as far as I know cannibalism Isn’t Really A Thing for them. That’s a thought in of itself tbh, would they be able to reckon with the concept of being so hungry you’d eat people you know, when it’s physically impossible for them to do that? How do you rationalize the choices others make in desperate situations when you know you’d never have to make that choice anyway and you’ll never have their perspective on it?

Anyways, I’m entertained by the idea of them being able to ignore stuff like nuggets or patties considering it doesn’t look recognizable as what it is but being downright repulsed by steaks, especially if its bloody or has bone visible. They don’t like the visual reminders of their sweet little organic friends consuming flesh and blood. Too freaky for them.

it revolves around post-war decepticons and how they will handle the impeding cold war between them and the autobots and the daunting horror of signing the peace treaty

Hello, I just saw this in the tags and wanted to add my own input. I am an abuse survivor and also a megastar shipper. Megastar is one of my tops, and that’s because they are both abuse victims and I see myself through both of them. When I ship them, I generally ship them as healing past the abuse and trauma they’ve both been through and make them happy, and able to heal and grow together, I always felt that if I was able to see those two heal and be happy, and being victims of abuse (megatron abused thru slavery, starscream abused thru megatron) then I would be able to heal myself. Being able to portray megatron and starscream break the cycle of abuse makes me happy in a way and even tho we don’t get it canonically, I try and portray it with what I write. 

I do agree a lot of depictions of megastar are extremely abusive, esp tfp depictions. I myself don’t really interact with fandom content that makes them out to be abusive. I do admit that there are a lot of people who glorify the abuse in the ship and that was a reason I just, didn’t interact with the fan version of it. At the end of the day, each to their own but I resonate with this answer. 

I agree with everything you said and I think you offered a very kind and nuanced answer. 

That said, at the end of the day I think that most all transformers ships have the ability to be priorship or abusive and it always irks me or at least, saddens me when people just go after megastar shippers. I mean, despite being an abuse survivor myself and going out of my way to portray the ship in a unique way to me, Ive had people tell me to kill myself. I remember there was a megastar story board artist who worked on Earthspark, and people were telling her to kill herself and to get hit by a bus. Ive realized that in the tf fandom it’s like ‘okay’ to harass megastar shippers even this elf us who don’t ship the ship in an abusive way, but other shippers tend to be exempt from this,.

lIKE I also like MegaOP, but MegaOp also has incredibly abusive foundations too. Especially TFP MegaOP, where Megatron quite literally took advantage of Optimus when he had no memories and just in general, some of the things he’s done to Optimus, short of torturing him and even killing and hurting his friends just o hurt him, are abusive and reminds me of things that happened to me. And people tend to romanticize that, and call them like ‘crazy husbands’ or exes or something like that, and I realize that it’s so common to romanticize the abuse in MegaOP, just like proshippers do, but its’ almost never called out the same way megastar is. Hell, some of the people bashing Megastar are the same people who think it’s romantic when Optimus is gettin beat and nearly killed by Megatron, or when Megatron kills and hurts those close to Optimus.

I don’t mean to rant to you, I just noticed how ship hate and suicide baiting is so acceptable to do to megastar shippers. It’s so common, even if we *don’t* ship the ship in an abusive way. And there aren’t that many megastar shippers compared to others. It’s a very isolating experience because I realize this fandom is ‘friendly’ until people have double standards over a ship you like. Like i said, I'm an actual abuse survivor, and in a place where I still have to live with my abuser, so writing megatron and starscream working thru their own traumas and loving one another is kinda healing to me. BUT being told to kill myself over it, sometimes by popular bloggers in the TF fandom, and then seeing them glorify abuse in other ships is not fun.

You are a poet becuse this is the most accurate opinion of transformers ships ive seen in awhile, twitter users a shakering is there boots right know!! And your view of megastar is perfect and the way you described your writings of them sounds amasing and a great and healthy way to potray them, also i very glad that it helps you. : ] And just puting this out there as a abuse survivor to i get you. Id like to touch on megop to since you mentioned it! Iam not going hate anyone fore it because once again to each there own, but i hate the double stander for megstar shipers, when megop is just as bad! People really need to understand that both have the opportunity to be awful horribly portrayed ships, or beautiful heartfelt relationship with great story telling! And one last thing that i would like to add is when you said that ever transformers ship has the opportunity to be proship, and yes i agree strongly with this. the transformers fandom has a very bad problem of fetishizing relationship and just around makeing really bad and gross ships. But something id like to say is some ships will never be heathy, and cant be. There are some ships that are just gross and overall cant be labled as anything other than proship. For instance, somthing that makes me absolutely sick is people who ship overlord and Fortress Maximus, specifically there idw/mtmte portrayals. A little background if some have never read the comics, Fortress Maximus was a warden at this prison basically and overlord came a over ran the place, killing tons of bot and taking many captive. Maximus was one of said bots and overlord wanted some information that only Maximus had and for 3 and a half years torture, abused, and lobotomized him. The amont of trama that Maximus gained from that, form overlord, alone should show how awful of a ship it is to began with. There is no way that it could be written to be heathy for either bot because its shown alot just how much Maximus HATES Overlords guts. But iam a stop there, or iam a write a hole essay. For your tfp megastar does Starscream carry their sparklings? If so how does he with that frame because it seems as if Megatron would be more suited for it.

In all my megastar aus starscream carries. I see what you mean though lol. Most times esp in TFP, Megatron is mostly seen as the carrier and I think that has a lot to do with their body types?? I consider megatron to be a carrier in other ships, but not megastar... anyways.

Like all my Starscream's tfp star isn't constructed with a frame made to carry but he does it anyway. He either gets procedures done usually by ratchet or knockout to give him a forge tank. The producers aren't always successful meaning his body isn't really ready but he ignores that and goes ahead anyway. More importantly he just refuses to tell Megatron that it's life threatening and Starscream is good at hiding his pain.

Like all my seeker hcs since they have to be modified to carry their bodies don't change. So like the three who are carriers, just don't ever know when they are unless they have a scan.

The sparklings usually come out angry and with attitude because they are cramped.

But since Megatron is an experienced carrier and has carried in the past he usually can tell when Starscream is in pain or when he's trying to put on a brave face. And he wants things to be painless for him. Let's just say the same way Megatron can naturally birth a sparkling.... Starscream cannot or it will be bad. That's in tfp but also my other aus and again Starscream mostly doesn't know he's going into emergence but Megatron does so usually has to tell him that he is.

Also Starscream cannot produce carriers energon to sustain the sparklings so Megatron does that as well. Megatron is unique because he has both a sire but carrier's bond with Starscream's children.

Now Megatron does wanna carry Seeker children and be does in the future but he's never had a desire to carry for Starscream. But he does carry Seekers but that's for another post!

one thing i really appreciate about the faraway paladin is that its depiction of religion/religious characters flips a ton of tropes in isekai/fantasy manga.

bc honestly a ton of isekai (esp the trashier ones lol) tend to depict their pantheons as half-jokes, like lots of goofy or super sexualized gods and especially goddesses, and it usually rips me out of the atmosphere pretty quickly; it doesn't feel like good worldbuilding imo

but the worldbuilding in tfp makes its pantheon seem a lot more regal, a lot more like true forces of nature, rather than "sexy person who is really strong and immortal" or whatever.

i could go on and on about not just that, but also the characterization of will a a priest (and how he actually sticks by his religious principles (!!)), and bishop bagley!!! wow what a guy

idk it's kinda silly but i appreciate just how refreshing it feels. i'm sure it's not unique but at this point in time i'm really enjoying it

Despite how much criticism i give to tf media there's barely anything that makes me mad enough to erase it from existence.

Charlie and Bumblebee is the biggest comfort to me!! I can't just keep talking abt idw1 LMAO their friendship is so wonderful and I hope we get to see them interact again at least briefly.

12...what attracted me into checking it out.

It's actually been with me my whole life i was a HUGE transformers kid with the first two live action movies and tfp, i just kind of fell off when i started using internet much more. I had a HUGE crush on Bumblebee, esp Animated one, even wrote Ded Moroz a letter asking for an animated bumblebee toy. With a drawing. With me and Bee.

I didn't get the toy though and my parents never indulged me cuz they weren't big fans of me being into "boys" things so fucking jokes on them now.

Though if i had to say why i got so much into it recently (its going to be exactly a year since tomorrow. LMAO) its cuz I've had a passing interest in rewatching tfp and then i kind of got Really into starbee and found out about idw1, watched the live action Bumblebee, got Transformers devastation on my laptop, started reading a Lot of starbee fanfiction and eventually started reading idw1 and watching tfa, which became an actual rabbit hole for me. And here I am........

I'll be real I mostly read fanfiction for smut cuz when it comes to anything non-shippy I'm very picky and particular w the way my favs are characterized and how things are written, but smut is somehow much less commitment to me lmao. Especially w Ambulon I'm very territorial w him.

So yea most fic I've read w him was smut.

I don't mind non-smut/ship fic recommendations I'm just bad at finding fic like that I would like lmao. Which is very funny to me cuz most stuff I write isn't really about shipping.

He shouldn't have died like that, my entire Ambulon blog is a fix-it fanfiction. He's such a low stakes character from like. Narrative stand point, that his death is a tool for other characters "development". I don't really like how much his character was warped and twisted in general cuz Jro cannot be consistent w Ambulon for the life of him. But also I get it, y'know? His death was stupid but also not like, getting rid of another bg character is that much of a deal, even though it's insane how much personality and story he was given as a one-off character lmao.

I love the angst around his death though he makes a good story ghost.

Thinking about TFP again and the fact that the whole Optimus getting the StarSaber thing was only major threat for two whole seconds in TfP because Megatron was like "YEAH?? WELL I MADE THE EVIL and betterer version of your sword" is so fucking hilarious to me.

Don't take this as a super serious critique. I'm not actually mad about it. I find it hilarious.

Narratively it's so bad 😂. The autobots finally get an advantage. They totally could have played with this and make Megatron scramble against the autobots for a bit instead of the Autobots constantly losing. Would have made for a new avenue to explore and make the autobots feel like a genuine threat.

But seeing it happen on screen like two kids playing pretend and being like "I'm a tiger" "well I'm a bigger stronger tiger so THERE" is really funny. 😂

I cackled so hard at that it's so funny how Megatron has an "Oh shit I'm fucked" moment until two minutes later he gets the plot forge.

Doesn't the forge of Solus Prime being able to make another prime exclusive relic that's just as powerful kinda make every other supposedly "one of a kind" relic kinda lose it's impact and value? The forge of Solus Prime is OP and it's hilarious. Unless the lore says she made all the primely artefacts in the first place in which case ignore me. But I really thought Primus made them? Idk man Dhdbsj. Even if Solus DID make the og items, the conflict could have been resolved way better.

Anyways rnxdjejd. TfP is a very pretty show and there's a lot I like about it. But man it also really misses the mark in major ways sometimes 😂 esp with the poor follow through of some neat ideas it sets up. (esp the last season oof).

it can be a struggle wanting to talk about how it can be *somewhat annoying* when other people act like only tfp starscream is femme/gnc and gay (queer) because i see people tend to just lean into that version of him being queer when all the others are. just because they are bulkier doesn't take away like their femininity or queerness. Like a lot of people don't really mention like g1 starscream or idw starscream when talking about overall queerness and femininity qhen discussing starscream and it makes me upset. G1 was the blueprint and idw starscream really really carrried and I don't like that a huge chunk of people tend to write them off because of how they look.

but on the other hand, there are a lot of ignorant people who are super homophobic and femmephobic toward tfp starscream - that includes other queer people. i've seen tons of people act like tfp starscream's portrayal or fans making him queer and feminine is somehow 'heterenormative' or something fetishistic and that's stupid. like a lot of people are ignortant and just plain stupid when it comes to a lot of their critiques toward tfp starscream and people percieving him as gay/femme or whatever.

like the amount of people who shit on queer fans for hc'ing him as gay or making him queer/femme coded (or even making him submissive in ships - which isn't at all equated to femininity/queerness but that is just something done. and people hate it but like will do the same trope in their ships?) and stuff and really amplifying that in fanarts is just...idk go outside, meet other queer people off line. i think that a lot of the 'omg y'all are making this skinny character overly feminine so you're just heteornormative and fetishy' comes form queer people who just do not interact with quere groups offline because like irl and projecting that onto people's views of tfp starscream is weird

but then it's like where is the middle ground. i do feel that some tfp starscream fans tend to completely ignore or discount the other starscreams because they aren't skinny or slender, and to them that doesn't equate to femininty or like the 'pretty feminine guy' perception they've had. i've seen a lot of times other starscreams equated to being more masculine compared to tfp star and that just makes me sad. just because the other stars are bulky does not mean that they aren't feminine or queer or whatever. but at the same time it's very hard to have these conversations without cishets or queer people who wanna look good for cishets shitting on tfp starscream and shitting on people who percieve him as feminine and queer/gay coded.

the point of this is that, tfp starscream is not the only queer, gnc, gay starscream - they all are. but people, including other queer people, are flat out homophobic toward tfp starscream and tfp starscream fans by the way y'all will outright shit on other queer folks and call them heterenormative/fetishy (or even my favorite one '*insert tfp starscream shit/perception just exists for straight gay people*) just because they tend to amp up a lot of tfp starscream's femininity or whatever. and trust me i do sometimes have issues with tfp starscream portrayals esp when it comes to people assigning certain body parts to him because he is more 'feminine' , while other more 'masc' bots have other parts, but that isn't what this is about.
