the take “the other diamonds got a chance to change but Rose never did” is flawed because it ignores her entire character arc.

I usually see this take from people who claim that Rose is worse than the other diamonds. Sure, she never got to amend some of the mistakes she made but it doesn’t mean she never grew. She grew and changed without being forced too, she realized things were flawed way before the other diamonds.

Of course there were things she didn’t handle well and things she did wrong, but that doesn’t mean she is a morally bad person. If Rose had never changed the rebellion wouldn’t have happened/be successful. She matured, she wanted to protect something bigger than herself. She wanted to help gems like Garnet and gems who would’ve been considered off colored. Saying this wasn’t growth is ridiculous.

I think a lot of people forget that the other diamonds had hurt other gems as well even if we don’t focus on that. They shattered gems they considered off colored or useless for thousands of years before Steven came along. Saying they changed in a two year time span more than Rose did over six thousand plus years just is nonsensical.

The Ink Demonth 2023 - Day 9. Failure

Day 9. Failure Crossover: Steven Universe (all: both shows + movie) Spinel: That's right, I heard the story over and over again. Gee, it's swell to finally meet his other "friend". Bendy: That's right, I heard the story, don't really like how it ends. Gee, it's swell to finally meet her other "friend".

Classic. Way to go! You already got the idea to switch opponents - just switch weapons now, because I'm afraid that the BATIM scythe may not cope with an immortal alien with godly aspirations and abilities, and the gem-history-erasing scythe is unlikely to work on a human, even if that human is indeed a monster... Switch your weapons - and then you will get rid of each other's troubles once and for all :)

It's very obvious that I don't like Rose Quartz? There are few characters that are theoretically positive, but we don't get to know them personally - and they arouse my deep reluctance. Rose from the episode "Rose's Room" aroused my slight reluctance, and as the plot progressed - the reluctance increased to at last accumulate in the story of Spinel. Why I don't like Joey, I don't need to explain. Bendy is an immortal, indestructible demon - Spinel has a "juice" that kills all organic life. I think both Rose and Joey's fate is sealed here. Oh, and, hey, don't be fooled, Joey isn't vulnerable. In his right hand he has his trademark pen, with which he stalks and tortures Bendy in SATIM comic. "The pen is mightier than the sword", huh? True, but only against Bendy, not Spinel :)

Because I'm sick, I got an antibiotic, I'm on sick leave and I've been sleeping for too much hours a day lately - I had a big problem with finishing this picture. Specifically: the background gave me a problem. Finally, I decided to combine the Rose's Room and the Workshop, and add the substances with which our "failures" kill others. Ta-dah. It turned out well, didn't it? I had a lot of fun drawing Bendy, Spinel, and even Rose (although I made her 4 fingers instead of 5), Joey was a bit difficult, but luckily he's a back side.

ROSE QUARTZ/PINK DIAMOND GOT DONE DIRTY BY THE SU FANDOM, AND THE SHOW ITSELF

Quick disclaimer: I will admit, upfront, that part of the reason I’m even making a vent post of ANY kind of all is because I’m just not in a good place right now in general, and I just need to scream at something. That being said, that doesn’t make my feelings towards this any less real.

I’ve already talked about this a couple times before in the past, but I really do, legitimately, hate the treatment Rose/Pink got in the later parts of Steven Universe, both the main series and Future.

Look, I almost feel that it could have been a good thing in a way, since Rose was kind of put on a pedestal for most of the show’s first half, and seeing as how the series was about Steven discovering himself, and trying to step out from his mother’s shadow, I feel like, if this was handled better, it could have probably been really good.

But dang, this was NOT the way to do it.

Did Pink Diamond, both as herself and in her guise of Rose Quartz, do awful things? Absolutely.

She hurt her Pearl.

She abandoned Spinel.

She made impulsive, and even selfish, decisions.

But she also turned against her fellow Diamonds, her FAMILY, to protect the earth.

She faked her own shattering so she could keep fighting for the same planet she was originally meant to colonize.

She looked after others and cared for life, both human and gem.

Pink did a LOT wrong, but neither her past actions from when she was still a Diamond, or the mistakes she made as Rose Quartz, change the fact that she spent the entire rest of her existence trying to do good, to change, and become a better person.

And it really DOES strike a chord with me that the fandom, and even the SHOW ITSELF, act like she’s some horrible reprehensible villain especially since it seems to ring very true for how some treat people in the real world who used to do/say some not-so-great things, even if it’s been literal years since then, and they’re genuinely different people from who they were back then. Yeah...it kind of hits just a bit close to home for me...

It just doesn’t sit well with me that someone like WHITE DIAMOND can be forgiven, while Pink, the one Diamond who dared to turn against Homeworld and fight to protect the life of a planet that wasn’t hers, is the universally-agreed upon hated character.

Whether her reasons were ultimately altruistic or selfish, that doesn’t change the fact that she protected the earth and cared for the people she came to love, the best she could, until the day she gave up her physical form.

TL; DR: PINK DIAMOND WAS A VERY FLAWED, BUT ULTIMATELY NUANCED AND HUMAN CHARACTER, AND I WILL NEVER FORGIVE THE SU FANDOM, OR THE SHOW ITSELF, FOR TREATING HER LIKE A MONSTER WHEN SHE WASN’T.

There aren't many pictures of Karai in the ageswap Lair. There's a few here and there, but the Turtles weren't able to save many during the fire. To be honest, they don't have much at all from their previous life. For the most part, that means the stuff they do have are that much more precious.

There's a photo of her in the dojo, a family photo that includes her, the still human Turtles, Shinigami, and Saki and Yoshi when they were only a few weeks old. It's burnt, and parts of Karai's face are obscured by fire damage, but they leave it on the shrine so it always feels like she's with them.

Yoshi also has a photo of his mother that he keeps with him, the same way 2012 Karai always carried a photo of Tang Shen. It's another one of her and Shinigami. They're smiling and laughing, and his mother looks at Shinigami as if she hung the moon and stars in the sky, like she meant the world to her.

He can see that love reflected in Shinigami's face - he can tell she adored his mother, and there are nights when he wishes he could talk to Shinigami, to ask what his mother was like. He can ask his uncles yes, but he's sure that the Karai she knew would have been different from their sister. After all, he knows he acts differently with Shen than he does his sisters.

Who was the woman Shinigami loved? How did they meet? Does she have any stories about his mother that she'd be willing to share?

When he was little, he'd talk to the photo - he wanted to tell his mama what he'd been up to, how his uncles were doing, about his sisters and auntie April and uncle Casey so that Karai would have the chance to know them through him. He still talks to it when he's a teenager, especially as everything continues to escalate and the end of the world as he knows it draws nearer.

Sometimes he'll ask the photo questions, the ones he wants to ask Shini and the ones he wishes he could ask Karai.

"Rose Quartz was a bad mother" is a really baffling interpretation of Steven Universe, because Rose never got to be a mother in the first place.

Even if you take the stance that Rose was a bad person (which I vehemently disagree with, but you do you I guess), it's still not possible for her to have been a "bad mom" or even a "good mom." We literally have no idea what kind of mother she would have been to Steven, because she died.

She left some messy stuff behind, sure, but who the hell doesn't leave messy stuff behind when they die? A traumatized victim of generational trauma and abuse dying in childbirth doesn't equal "bad mother." Like, what?

And on top of that, if I dropped dead tomorrow and my shitty abusive family members swarmed around my kid, that's...not my fault? I've done everything I can in life to keep my kid away from the shitty abusive parts of our family. I cut them out as thoroughly as I possibly can. I can't control anything else. If they show up after I die to harass my kiddo, that's not my doing. Because I would in fact be dead.

I think way too many people try to make Rose responsible for literally every bad action that other people took, which is asinine both because it takes agency and impact away from every other character, but also because, like. She's not real. She is fictional. You don't have to hold her accountable for crimes, and that was never the point of the story in the first place. She served a narrative purpose, which was to tell a story about generational trauma. I'm less interested in "bad person vs good person" analysis and much more interested in "was this an effective way to tell a story about a very messy victim of cyclical abuse, and how hard it is to break the cycle without there being repercussions. Sometimes the cycle doesn't break cleanly."

I think it was, personally, especially considering the huge amounts of censorship heaped upon the show. I'd love to take a peek into the universe where they got to fully flesh out the story they originally intended, instead of getting cut off at the knees by homophobic studio heads.

A little explanation of the method I used for reading

Lithomancy : I assigned a meaning for each stone (each stone represents a planet) and cast them on a circle divided into 12 parts, just like an astrology chart and do the reading

2. Citrine group

There is a sense of an overall blessing draping your life. It's soft and jubilant.

You should surround yourself with soft, pastel colours and oceanic motifs.

Having a kaleidoscope and occasionally looking through it can unwind some restrictive thought patterns.

Travelling will bring lots of luck and valuable lessons. Schools and learning are also very important steps.

The more you study broadly but also deeply, the more depth and value you will find in life and in yourself. There is a calling from the depth of the ocean. To go deep, your life is not meant to be spent in a light, breezy, superficial way.

Have an exercise routine, not necessarily something vigorous, but just move your body around, writing or practising something with your hands daily will also assist you in this journey.

A teacher with masculine energy would also help you transform your fundamental way of thinking, building a more solid and vibrant inner core.

I'm also see that some objects with cradle-like shapes are quite beneficial for your financial and physical growth. A bowl, a basket, a candy dish, something that can hold others.

The colours to bring you luck are jade green, sky blue, lilac, and dark red.

4. Rose quartz

When I saw your spread, I immediately heard the sound of wind chimes. More specifically, a brass wind chimes, the one with no frills, just simple tubes of brass swaying gently in a place with lots of dark trees. The place feels simple, quiet, serious, and solitary.

Hanging some objects like wind chimes, dream catchers, or something light, delicate by the door or windows. Or wearing earrings with that kind of shape would bring good luck to you.

Even more so if it was made by your own hands. I even saw some kind of transparent panel make of glass or acrylic with painting on it, dangling in front of the window, sunlight striking through, making rainbow dance in the room.

Light and sound would affect your energy profoundly.

When things feel unstable, difficulties arise, you could go to places that are old, with lots of history, have big, strong, square structure, or anywhere that has 4 walls surrounding you to feel more grounded.

Number 2,3,4 would show signs of blessing.

Things or beings that come in pair, in groups of three or groups of four.

Consider using things with contrast, a combination of complementary colours ,

dark and rich colours combine with light, soft colours such as green and pink, light blue and brown black, lilac with dark red, orange with cold grey.

5. Carnelian group

For this group, it's not really about something physical like a place, an object that could bring you good luck. It's more about words, thoughts, and emotions.

When dealing with others, sometimes not revealing yourself entirely would actually achieve more peace and honesty in that relationship.

You have an intense inner world, you see clearly the hurts, the vulnerability, and the darkness in yourself and others. Your words would have a heavy , serious trigger. It's not easy to always bring that heaviness out into the open because it would create misunderstanding and anger in others.

So, not showing yourself too much, wait and observe, until you and the other person reach a certain understanding of each other.

An outward elusiveness and detachment sometimes would help balance out the inward gravity.

Having a psyche like that would manifest as sensitivity in the physical body such as allergies, so avoid eating too much spicy and hot food or strenuous activities so as not to aggrevate the body further.

A healthy bridge between bodily nourishment and the psyche should be established. Observe how some food would affect you.

The biggest message is to take good care of your health. No amount of blessings is enough if you are not actually healthy to receive them.

For colours, dark earthy and creamy tones would make a nice comfory blanket for you.

The divine rebel, Lucifer is the light of truth and divine wisdom; an ancient light which shines through the darkness, representing illumination. He is the driving force of innovation, liberation and transformation. According to Scarletarosa, who actively works with Lucifer and was told this by him, he was the first-born god of the Universe created by the supreme deity, the Source. He is so incredibly ancient and beautiful. Lilith was created to be his counterpart, the Queen of Heaven. However, Jehovah took the throne of heaven from Lucifer and cast him and his followers into hell. Most of them lost their connection to heaven and their energy became dark and intense. Jehovah claimed the throne of heaven and set himself up as the one true god, manipulating humans into betraying their original deities. Thus, Lucifer became the King of Hell and has been scorned by Christians for millenia.

How was he traditionally worshipped?

There is not much to say about how Lucifer was historically worshiped seeing as he wasn’t worshiped at all for a large chunk of human history. He seems to have been worked with in some capacity according to the Gesta Treverorum, written in 1231, which is where we first see the term Luciferian being used to refer to his worship. This was by a woman named Lucardis for a religious circle, who was said to lament to Lucifer in private and prayed to him. However, the term Luciferians was later applied to basically any groups Christians didn’t like and wanted to fight, as one might expect. However, the modern Luciferian movement also sheds light on how Lucifer is worshiped. For Luciferians, enlightenment is the ultimate goal. Their basic principles highlight truth, freedom of will and fulfilling one’s ultimate potential, and encourage the same in all of us. Traditional dogma is shunned because Luciferians believe that humans do not need deities or the threat of eternal punishment to know what is good and the right thing to do. All ideas are to be tested before being accepted, and even then one should remain critical because knowledge is fluid and ever-changing. Regardless of whether Luciferians view Lucifer as a deity or an archetype, he is a representation of ultimate illumination and exploration in the name of personal growth.

Appearance

For me Lucifer usually appears as a tall light-skinned man with long fiery red hair (so red it looks like it’s been dyed), a sophisticated face with a killer jawline, passionate eyes and dressed in a fancy black suit. From all my experiences with him and what I’ve heard from other followers, it seems Lucifer and most demons dress in full suits and tuxedos. 

Personality

Lucifer is nothing if not charming. He’s a protector first and foremost - one that always works to help you better yourself, but a protector nonetheless. He feels like a protective older brother taking care of you while your parents are away. He is a very complex entity, deeply wise and eloquent. He is more serious than one might expect for a demon given their popular depictions in our culture as chaotic forces of evil, but Lucifer is full of courage and love. I often feel him with me even when I’m not doing things related to him. He is proud of his follower’s accomplishments and congratulates them on a job well done, though he also reminds them that the job is never truly over. Growth is constant. Lucifer is the epitome of growth, blunt and gentle at the same time, telling you what you need to do and giving you space to figure out how to do it. 

Lucifer values resilience, the pursuit of self-betterment, intellectualism, courage, open-mindedness and responsibility in individuals and wants to see his followers develop these qualities. He is constantly rooting for you to reach your full potential. He won’t hold your hand the entire way, but he will help you take steps in the right direction. Lucifer, like all deities, is different for everyone and will adjust his approach depending on your needs.

Something I really like about Rose Quartz's characterization is how dedicated the writers were to making what she did morally grey. Idk it would have been really easy for the twist to be she was Just Evil, especially learning she was related to the main villains, but no they created this very vague character who even in her appearances feels mysterious. If anything Rose is the one thing that is less clear to me after my rewatch, because now seeing the nuance in her character pulls me out of a black-ane-white view of her and into one that is just... foggy.

But a vibe I do get from Rose, is that despite clearly being incredibly compassionate, she's someone who lacks empathy in the case of the ability to fully realize others' autonomy and thought processes. There's just a lot of decisions she makes that feel aloof in an odd way, and when combined with how childish she can be it can give the impression she sees everything as a game. But it's still clear that she cares and is genuinely moved by the Earth, and when her entire truth is revealed you can see how ideologically honest she was. Even if it feels like her beliefs are just so she can have fun, but that is part of freedom, the freedom to vibe and explore and do silly things she couldn't.

That attitude clearly just comes from her position as Pink Diamond. It was an oppressive role emotionally, but not as literally oppressive as the lives of those around her. I think her relationship with Pearl is where I find the most of the part of me that sees her as compassionate but unempathetic. Pink can't fathom what it's like to have been born to be an obedient servant and how that would cloud Pearl's judgement. How telling her "I'm going to fight for this world but you dont have to" would mean nothing to her because she is still obsessed with her, how entering a romantic relationship with something while they're still effectively your servant is unhealthy, or how spending her life flirting with other men would probably tear your servant-to-lover-to-ex up inside lmao. With the first she obviously meant to be giving her a choice because she cares about Pearl, but she can't understand how to truly give Pearl freedom of choice she can't treat her like a fully freethinking person. With the second she doesn't understand how her power has an unhealthy impact on her bond with Pearl. And with the last it's not at all that Rose isn't allowed to move on, but I just always found she has a lack of awareness of Pearl's jealousy and misery that's a bit inappropriate. Not that you can't assume she has already let Pearl down easy or cares about her coping, but it's never shown, which feels like a deliberate choice.

I'm working on a more organized theory about Rose's characterization, but it is deeply fascinating. Her and Pearl's relationship is as well, I feel like it's sometimes characterized as just a mean jealous ex situation but like it's way more fucked than that, and is a great exploration of power dynamics, obsession, and grief. Love me some toxic doomed yuri.
