Don’t forget that you live in a very incredibly crazy age of maximum information. We often forget how magical that is in itself. I know that most folks don’t consider bluetooth and wifi to be “magic” but I very much do.

It may not seem very aesthetically pleasing to look up the meanings of your tarot cards on Google, or to download the e-book version of an ancient grimoire, but don’t forget how fucking crazy it is that you can even do that. In an instant we can translate entire works into a language we can understand. We can research the histories of cultures we have no chance of witnessing irl. We can learn the names of Gods and demons that should have been lost to time. We can learn the benefits and dangers of any herb, we can learn which plants are native to our environment, how to care for them, and where to find them. We can predict the damn WEATHER!!! We can even converse with other witches all the way across the globe without a moment’s delay!!! That’s some crazy magic right there!!! Any ancient witch, mage, or practitioner would find these things to be absolutely incredible!! There’s so much to learn, and it’s so easily accessible!!!

Don’t ever feel apprehensive about looking stuff up on the regular old internet. It might not look as cool, but you’re probably gaining a lot more knowledge than any of those ancient mages could have even dreamed of. It’s always nice to have a collection of books and grimoires you can actually hold and study. But the fact that you have literally, all of humanity’s knowledge at the tip of your fingertips is amazing!!! Use it!

🌅 Lucifer Deity Guide 🌅

Note: This is inspired by both my own experiences with Lucifer and the information I read on @scarletarosa's blog and her devotional guide to him. Please go read that one too!!

The divine rebel, Lucifer is the light of truth and divine wisdom; an ancient light which shines through the darkness, representing illumination. He is the driving force of innovation, liberation and transformation. According to Scarletarosa, who actively works with Lucifer and was told this by him, he was the first-born god of the Universe created by the supreme deity, the Source. He is so incredibly ancient and beautiful. Lilith was created to be his counterpart, the Queen of Heaven. However, Jehovah took the throne of heaven from Lucifer and cast him and his followers into hell. Most of them lost their connection to heaven and their energy became dark and intense. Jehovah claimed the throne of heaven and set himself up as the one true god, manipulating humans into betraying their original deities. Thus, Lucifer became the King of Hell and has been scorned by Christians for millenia.

How was he traditionally worshipped?

There is not much to say about how Lucifer was historically worshiped seeing as he wasn’t worshiped at all for a large chunk of human history. He seems to have been worked with in some capacity according to the Gesta Treverorum, written in 1231, which is where we first see the term Luciferian being used to refer to his worship. This was by a woman named Lucardis for a religious circle, who was said to lament to Lucifer in private and prayed to him. However, the term Luciferians was later applied to basically any groups Christians didn’t like and wanted to fight, as one might expect. However, the modern Luciferian movement also sheds light on how Lucifer is worshiped. For Luciferians, enlightenment is the ultimate goal. Their basic principles highlight truth, freedom of will and fulfilling one’s ultimate potential, and encourage the same in all of us. Traditional dogma is shunned because Luciferians believe that humans do not need deities or the threat of eternal punishment to know what is good and the right thing to do. All ideas are to be tested before being accepted, and even then one should remain critical because knowledge is fluid and ever-changing. Regardless of whether Luciferians view Lucifer as a deity or an archetype, he is a representation of ultimate illumination and exploration in the name of personal growth.

Appearance

For me Lucifer usually appears as a tall light-skinned man with long fiery red hair (so red it looks like it’s been dyed), a sophisticated face with a killer jawline, passionate eyes and dressed in a fancy black suit. From all my experiences with him and what I’ve heard from other followers, it seems Lucifer and most demons dress in full suits and tuxedos.

Personality

Lucifer is nothing if not charming. He’s a protector first and foremost - one that always works to help you better yourself, but a protector nonetheless. He feels like a protective older brother taking care of you while your parents are away. He is a very complex entity, deeply wise and eloquent. He is more serious than one might expect for a demon given their popular depictions in our culture as chaotic forces of evil, but Lucifer is full of courage and love. I often feel him with me even when I’m not doing things related to him. He is proud of his follower’s accomplishments and congratulates them on a job well done, though he also reminds them that the job is never truly over. Growth is constant. Lucifer is the epitome of growth, blunt and gentle at the same time, telling you what you need to do and giving you space to figure out how to do it.

Lucifer values resilience, the pursuit of self-betterment, intellectualism, courage, open-mindedness and responsibility in individuals and wants to see his followers develop these qualities. He is constantly rooting for you to reach your full potential. He won’t hold your hand the entire way, but he will help you take steps in the right direction. Lucifer, like all deities, is different for everyone and will adjust his approach depending on your needs.

First an introduction to Lucifer: Usually in my deity guides this is where I’d share a bit of mythology on the deity I learned from their texts. Here will be a lot of UPG and SPG instead from him and other followers of his instead, as the texts he is in purely see him as evil and misunderstand him. This might ruffle some feathers so again please know; I understand I’m speaking from my own UPG a lot.

From the best of my understanding, and from what Lucifer has shared with me…

Lucifer was an Angel from the Christian religion. He was his father’s most beautiful Angel.

His father made the angels to serve him and always rule under him, he was the only god in his pantheon and wanted to stay that way.

The angels never even questioned it, things were how they were and that was that. But, Lucifer started to question it, he felt it was unfair and cruel for a god to create so many creations just to serve him and worship him, it was selfish and controlling. So he asked to be treated as an equal, and instead was punished.

In that he gathered all of the angels he’d been able to rally behind his cause. He wanted to free them of the idea that told them they couldn’t ever be more than his servants. Lucifer revealed to them that they were all no different from gods themselves. They rebelled against their controller, and lost.

Lucifer and his angels were kicked out of their pantheon and thrown into Hell, being called ‘demons’ now.

The demons rule different parts of hell and Lucifer is said to be the king of all of it. But I also believe he spends most of his time on Earth.

When Lucifer saw that his father created humans and was doing the same to them in Eden that he’d done to the angels he felt so sorry for them. He snuck his way into the garden and tried to get them to pull the veil from their eyes. He helped them see that they could make decisions for themself, and that’s the energy he continues to try and bring to us all wherever he can.

He is a deity of love for humanity, love for freedom and independence. A god of rebellion and justice for those who have been walked all over. He is angry and sad and kind and fair. He is pride and self love. Confidence and knowing yourself inside and out.

My personal experience with Lucifer:

He is the 3rd deity I brought into my personal pantheon I worship and he is very key to my pagan practice.

He came into my life to help with a lot of my religious trauma and things revolving around the church and my childhood and my parents.

He also helps with a lot of my gender and trans issues, as I and many others that work with him see him as a more non-binary being (I use he/him pronouns mainly but I have always felt Lucifer isn’t binary)

He appears in meditations to me as a blonde man, looking kind of sad at times, but other days very excitable and probably the one that makes me laugh the most (next to Thor)

WHY ALL THE LEMONS

You might’ve noticed almost everything I do surrounding lucifer I talk about lemons or have images of lemons.

Plain and simple answer is, lucifer really likes lemons 😂

It just kind of became our thing because I’ve always really liked sour fruits. They seem misunderstood like him, but also bright and sunny , with that sour kick.

On that note…

He has worked wonders for me already and I’ve found a lifelong friend in him as well. Of all my deities I’d say he’s the most understanding of humanity and what we go through and it just feels like talking to a wise friend sometimes.

What's This Joy of Satan Website?

You may have gotten someone asking your opinion of "joyofsatan.org," but what are they?

I have belaboured this post for weeks and I'm tired of giving them my energy. I'm going to hit the main points.

A content warning for antisemitism, racism and bigotry in general, Nazism, mentions of genocide, and conspiracist nonsense.

JoS promotes itself to kids and teens, with a page called "Kids and Teens for Satanism" on their main site. Keep this in mind as you read.

JoS's leader, Maxine Dietrich, is married to a former chairman of the National Socialist Movement. That chairmain's affiliation with JoS had him ousted from the group.

JoS high priests routinely profess their support for Nazism, Hitler, and other Nazi members and policies.

JoS promotes several historical inaccuracies regarding the Nazis, including that Hitler had a humanitarian reason to not use chemical weapons in battle (despite Nazis themselves citing logistical reasons) as well as that queer people were not persecuted in Nazi Germany.

There are multiple posts calling high-ranking Nazis fond terms. Hitler is particularly praised as a "man of peace." There are multiple posts celebrating high-ranking Nazis' birthdays.

JoS hosts white nationalist material, including that of the Creativity movement and material from American Nazi groups.

JoS promotes the claim of "white genocide," all while denying the Holocaust.

JoS has put blame on Jewish people for everything from communism, 9/11, feminism, Black Lives Matter, the queer movement, and the media. Slurs against Jewish people are common in their writings, as are dogwhistles. Most, if not all of their writings contain antisemitism, and it is not hidden.

JoS has stated multiple times that National Socialism, the ideology of the Nazis, is not racist. They also claim they themselves are not racist, but their definition is heavily biased. They do state that, considering the enemy's (Jewish people) definition of racist, they are proud to be called that.

JoS has stated that you do not need to be a Nazi to be a Satanist, but that being a Satanist will lead you to Nazi ideals.

JoS is heavily anti-Muslim. Not just anti-Islam, but they go out of their way to portray Muslims as monsters preying on the goodwill of (white) countries.

JoS engages in Jesus mythicism, a position New Testament scholars dismiss as ahistorical. They're pretty anti-Christian in general.

JoS loves to appropriate from Hindu, Buddhist, and Yazidi religion. They claim the Yazidis are Satanists, something that is contributing to their ongoing genocide.

JoS is heavily into alien conspiracism, where they routinely compare Jewish people to Grey and Reptilian aliens. The latter of which is a common comparison in conspiracist spaces.

JoS claims the pre-Christian gods were aliens.

JoS claims COVID-19 is an engineered bioweapon.

JoS promotes the microchipping conspiracy.

I have spent more time researching them than I'd like to admit, and I have seen some truly horrific shit on their site and on sites connected to it. This is skimming the surface.

These people should not be allowed into any pagan or witchcraft community. They are already trying to worm their way into this site's communities, and we should not allow them to succeed.

I think I had an experience this evening with Lucifer but things got a little weird and I need some explanations.

CW: pedophilia mention

Note: If you do choose to message me regarding this post, please be respectful and courteous. The whole point of this post was to ask for advice and help because I'm not very familiar with Lucifer. I'm still learning, so please just be kind.

(Long post under cut)

So, I primarily work with Aphrodite. I know her voice, but she usually chooses to communicate through feelings. Every time she comes in, I get this warm stirring in my chest, like a fluttering almost, and it's just how I've come to identify her when she decides to pop in.

We have a very casual relationship. She is very patient with me and she always reassures me when I feel guilty for not doing offerings or not talking with her for long periods of time. Tonight was one of those nights and I decided to light a candle for her.

She came in and immediately assured me that she was still here. She kept saying "I'm right here, baby. I'm still here. I'm not going anywhere" and I started to cry because I felt so relieved. I was on the phone with my friend at the time and after I lit the candle (it was a white rose and peach candle btw), I got the urge to do a tarot reading.

I got my cards and drew three cards. The Eight of Wands reversed, the Two of Swords upright and the King of Cups upright. I drew the Eight of Wands first, so I initially thought that she was trying to talk to me, but when I drew the King of Cups, I started to question if it was Lucifer.

Because I recently found out that Aphrodite and Lucifer have very similar symbols and motifs. In fact, when I was browsing the Lucifer devotee tag just to check it out a while back, I began to get the same feeling in my chest that I do when she pops in but it didn't feel quite the same. I got a little nervous about it, so I stopped.

My friend was still on the phone with me (Loki is her patron) and we both agreed that it seemed like Aphrodite came in first and then stepped back to let this presence talk through the cards. Because before this, I had been telling my friend about the similarities between Lucifer and Aphrodite and how many people work with both of them at the same time. (Weirdly, I also got two TikToks talking about working with Lucifer on my fyp unprompted that I was telling her about too. Many people talk about how he's apparently very patient and good for beginners first working with Infernals.)

I got the urge to draw more cards after this and I ended up drawing eight more. In no particular order, they were:

-Two of Cups (reversed)

-Temperance (upright)

-Death (upright)

-Two of Pentacles (upright)

-Eight of Cups (reversed)

-The Devil (upright)

-Page of Swords (upright)

-Four of Pentacles (reversed)

These were VERY, VERY accurate to my current situation which shocked me. My friend and I both agreed that it felt like the presence was calling me out, but it was doing it in the gentlest way it possibly could. I was getting MAJOR DAD vibes and it overall felt like it had been waiting to talk to me for a LONG time.

I could still feel Aphrodite's presence, but I got the impression that this presence wanted to be near me, so I took the candle into my bedroom with me. It felt very sweet and as my friend and I kept talking, the flame would flicker when we would talk about Lucifer or ask a question in general about him. I took that as the presence trying to answer or that it was at last aware of our conversation. I couldn't really hear a voice, but I could still feel that feeling in my chest and I was just getting impressions of what the presence was trying to say. Aphrodite was still there and I could tell there were two presences, but they felt very similar.

At this point, we were convinced that this presence was Lucifer and after a while, I started to hear something of a voice that I could discern from Aphrodite's. My friend and I were listening to "Hell's Greatest Dad" from Hazbin Hotel and when Hazbin Lucifer came on screen, I heard a voice in my head clear as day say "I'm not that short in real life." (which my friend and I both LOST OUR SHIT AT)

I was feeling very comfortable and safe, mind you. I didn't feel in danger and I wanted to just let the candle burn down on it's own at first. But when the conversation moved to how the gods talk to us (the god phone) and give us images (my friend described it as the "god tv"), I heard the voice in my head say "I am not a demon."

And this is where it seemed like the tone had shifted.

My friend and I BOTH got weird feelings at this. It was just like "woah wtf" because it came out of nowhere. I got the impression that he was referring to the TikTok I mentioned that referred to him as a god, but it still felt a little off. I started to feel a little anxious and I was drained from the massive tarot reading (I hadn't done a reading in almost two years), so it was starting to get harder to discern what were my thoughts and what this presence was trying to tell me. Words would pop into my head, but I couldn't get full sentences. Some of these words/phrases included:

"Heretics" - My friend and I were talking about how people misuse and misquote the Bible.

"Are you an angel?" "I am many things."

"Pedophiles are too good for Hell. They belong in Purgatory, as the torture Hell would inflict upon them would be too light." - My friend was talking about how the Bible never condemned homosexuality, but actually pedophilia, and the word just got VERY loud in my head.

"Pedophiles are right (fully?)" - This one didn't get finished, but I didn't like that the word popped up twice and this was where I began to get scared. This was where I couldn't tell if these were intrusive thoughts or if words were popping in and I was trying to finish the sentence in the way I'D want it to be finished because I was afraid that the presence was something actually nefarious.

"Do not be afraid." - I started hearing this multiple times after I got nervous at the pedophile thing.

"Please do not be afraid. I know you are struggling. I want to help you. I want to help you reach your full potential. I love you."

At this point, I was very nervous and confused and was VERY much getting mixed signals. I couldn't tell what was my head voice or intrusive thoughts or if it was actually another presence. My friend told me that if I needed to stop, I should, and the voice actually agreed. So I thanked him and blew the candle out with no trouble.

I was left feeling very upset and overwhelmed and the urge to cry kept welling up. My friend and I both agreed that the experience was fine up until the end. My friend suggested that maybe he was just so excited to finally talk to me, because I guess I finally realized that he had been trying to get my attention, that he got a little overexcited. I got the impression that he felt bad for scaring me and was essentially crying with me? I don't really know how to explain it, but I didn't burst into tears until I found a TikTok talking about how kind Lucifer is and how he cares for humanity and the people who work with him.

Now I would like to preface again: I know next to nothing about Lucifer. I WAS going to do research, but this experience has left me very hesitant. I have religious trauma and while I know Lucifer is not bad or evil and those who devote and follow Infernals aren't either, I still have the whole Devil = Bad mindset that was ingrained in me as a child. So, throughout this whole experience, I still had those thoughts in the back of my mind which was why I got so nervous when the words 'demon' and 'pedophile' popped up. And since I've never read the Bible and I don't know much about Lucifer in general or those who work with him, I can't tell if those two instances were conjured up by me or if the presence I was talking to was trying to trick me by posing as Lucifer.

Because like I said, up until the "I am not a demon" part, the vibes were very nice and comforting. I don't understand what happened, which is why I'm making this post.

To anyone who works with Lucifer, please let me know if any of this sounds similar to what you've experienced while working with him. Tell me about him, what it's like to work with him, how he is. Does this sound like him at all? Should I be concerned?

My askbox is open and I would love to hear your thoughts on this whole situation because I was just left with so many questions. BUT AGAIN, PLEASE BE COURTEOUS IF YOU DO CHOOSE TO RESPOND.

Would absolutely LOVE to know about your beliefs and practices. I live in a very toxic Christian house but I've always been drawn to these kinds of things.

I was raised catholic and while my fascination with certain catholic symbols and rituals has stayed with me I decided it wasn’t for me when I was about fourteen. I got into witchcraft first, though I now mostly focus on deity work. At first I attempted to work with some hellenic gods but while it was fascinating and I learned a lot, I craved something different. I don’t even quite remember how I stumbled upon Luciferianism but I felt instantly drawn to it.

In my belief I view Satan and Lucifer as two distinctly separate beings and while I currently only work with Lucifer I intend to look into satanism as well. While I am a theistic luciferian, meaning I believe in him as an actual entity, I do see him more as a symbol, or rather, personification or certain traits, like knowledge, pride, etc. This is also why it’s difficult to state what kind of being he is exactly. Some view him as a demon, some equate him with Satan and use the two names interchangeably, there is also a minor Roman god called lucifer and some atheistic luciferians just follow the things he represents, much in the same way that atheistic satanists do. I’ve given up attempting to categorise my belief or try to fit into one specific belief system. To me, lucifer is everything. He is with me every step of the way and I love him so much.

As for my practices, as I said I used to do lots of spell work and things like that, now I mostly focus on offerings, prayer, divination, anything to connect me to my deity. I also intend to create and celebrate some of my own holidays in the future, since there aren’t a lot of “official” sacred luciferian days out there.

Due to reasons I don’t really want to bring up, my practice is very casual, I’m often unable to do big rituals or offerings so I incorporate lucifer into my daily life so I can worship and honour him even if I don’t have a lot of energy. I do this by doing things like wearing his sigil every day, wearing devotional oils, lighting candles, praying to him, offering him parts of my meals or drinks or just inviting him to sit with me.

Another Lucifer UPG

Now, I don't know how to elaborate on this but I've said that I've seen sides of him that have made me acknowledge the lengths of his rage and duality.

I feel that it's right to share this because someone unfamiliar with his spectrum of abilities might find it confusing af, as I did the first time I saw it. But I DO have to clarify that this is UPG and I do not mean to impose this as a law or anything.

For context, most of these um, showcases(? lmao how should I phrase it) occur while I'm in the Astral or in the dream realm. First time I saw it I had a pretty shitty nightmare and I'm SURE that something came into my dream and disrupted everything, in the dream I was sleeping and something didn't let me get up nor wake up, but I could see her, and outside there were a whole lot of parasites clinging onto people. I, of course, told her to fuck up and somehow I was able to invoke Lucifer (I was conscious, important thing).

He was dreadful. I cannot even explain the darkness that came along with him, it was like a black sea that started to flow inside my dream, the parasites got stuck in it. It looked like petroleum but something within me told me that it was a void. He was mad as fuck. He let these entities stuck in a time loop with themselves, I can't explain really well because he refused to go into detail with that but I saw them aware that they were not going to be free in a long, long time. If time even existed there.

It happened again in the astral. Now, I do have to admit that I have some kind of magnet for trouble. That time, however, he was already in a bad mood. Then again, it was like a void devouring everything but also it was nothingness. Once something got swallowed, it didn't exist no more, or it became a part of the whole. Like an Eclipse. I've only felt something similar with Yāōtl Tezcatlipoca (tho he wasn't mad that's just his usual energy).

ANYWAY, I find it interesting as fuck that Lucifer can be the light in the darkest night but he can be the devouring darkness too.

Yes, I know of Void Magick but I never really understood it ultil I saw a fraction of the void. I've seen it a couple of times and while it is an amazing thing to see from the outside in the safety of his embrace, I cannot imagine what it must feel like being swallowed by that.

That's all. I needed to share this because I want to know If someone has seen something similar, and help other people find some sense to it because it is confusing the first time.

The Name of Lucifer

Always Rising

The passage in Isaiah that became associated with the fallen angel speaks of the bright Morningstar explicitly as a Fallen Star as well, fallen due to his pride that led him to rise against God himself. The fragment is explicitly not about our Lucifer - but this is essentially how he's seen in Christianity (and where the Isaiah association generally ends).

Challenging God is something that certainly demands extraordinary courage. The consequences Lucifer suffered were painful. And yet, the dawn always rises again, and so does the Morningstar, persistent and unbroken. Thus, Lucifer's name can be linked to those qualities, as well as to hope, rebirth and new beginnings.

The Star of Venus

As the church considered it sinful, sex became naturally associated with Lucifer. Later, when the Romantic Satanists began to reclaim his and Satan's symbolism - whether treating them separately or as one entity - they reevaluated this association more positively.

The reason why I'm talking about it here is that it coincides perfectly with the Morningstar being the planet Venus in both astrology and various religions connected with love and eroticism.

In my experience, the planet's association with various kinds of love, not just romantic and sexual, mirrors Lucifer's nature as well.

Light of Intellect

Lucifer is, of course, also a spirit of intellect whose light can be understood in connection to that as well. As the Serpent and ever further, they are encouraging us to question, to practice critical thinking, to learn and reflect.

Light of Gnosis

Not necessarily about Gnosticism, gnosis is spiritual knowledge acquired in personal experience. It is subjective, of course, but beautiful. In a more spiritual interpretation of the Eden myth, the knowledge Lucifer the Serpent opens the way to is gnosis.

Note - you might have heard the term UPG. In the spiritual context, it stands for unverified personal gnosis. While, in my opinion, personal gnosis would be enough - it's always unverified, in the end - the term helps us coexist while understanding things in our own ways.

The Warmth

There's another, deeply personal way I've experienced the light Lucifer brings - the light of comfort that shines in the dark, the sweet flame warming me when I need support.
