Hollywood still drives many people to Los Angeles in search of jobs in the film industry and looks at the phenomenon of the dream factory. With selected works, the exhibition looks back 100 years to the beginnings of Hollywood photography, with references to icons of film history, but also draws the span to the present day. We are very pleased to be able to assist in making George Hoyningen-Huene's iconic portraits of Katherine Hepburn, Gary Cooper, Marlene Dietrich, Charlie Chaplin and Ernst Lubitsch, among others, being part of this great exhibition. On view at the Hollywood exhibition are several of the works of #helmutnewton along with others such as #evearnold #steveschapiro #philiplorcadicorcia #michaeldressel #antoncorbijn #georgehurrell #jensliebchen #ruthharrietlouise #ingemorath #juliusshulman #alicesprings and #larrysultan . To celebrate the reopening of the @NationalPortraitGallery we'll be sharing our favourite portraits by our current exhibition artist: Eve Arnold. “Eve Arnold studied at the New School for Social Research under Alexei Brodovitch. It was during this period that she decided to photograph African American fashion shows taking place in a former Abyssinian Church in Harlem, New York. In a still segregated city, this was a world that the mainstream media of the time had not explored. This portrait of Charlotte Stribling (referred to Fabulous) was Eve’s first published work, marking a watershed in her career, and in the way that photographers documented the world of fashion. The picture, made at the start of the civil rights movement, also captures a turning point in American history. was an Austrian photographer.

In 1953, she joined the Magnum Photos Agency (Paris) and became a full photographer in 1955. Along with #EveArnold, she was among the #firstwomenmembers of Magnum Photos.

Mother of screenwriter/director Rebecca Miller.

First educated in French-speaking schools, Morath relocated in the 1930s with her family to Darmstadt, a German intellectual center, and then to Berlin.

Toward the end of World War II, Morath was drafted for factory service in Tempelhof, a neighbourhood of Berlin, alongside Ukrainian prisoners of war. During an attack on the factory by Russian bombers, she fled on foot to Austria. In later years, Morath refused to photograph war, preferring to work on stories that showed its consequences.

In 1959, while photographing the making of The Unforgiven, starring #AudreyHepburn, Morath accompanied Huston and his friends duck hunting on a mountain lake outside Durango, Mexico. (...) She could see that Murphy, stunned, was nearly drowning. A skilled swimmer, Morath stripped to her underwear and hauled the two men ashore by her bra strap while the hunt continued uninterrupted.

Morath worked again with Huston in 1960 on the set of The Misfits, a film featuring #MarilynMonroe.

In Morath's mature work, she documents the endurance of the human spirit under situations of extreme duress, as well as its manifestations of ecstasy and joy.
