I know we’re all tired of the “it was just a dream” trope, but I have such a raging hard on thinking about sole survivor going through the events of fallout 4, meeting the companions and even potentially falling in love again, only to awake in their bed next to their still living spouse at the end of it all, sweating and confused, traumatised from the life they were already starting to forget like one does with dreams; only to get ready for the day in the mirror with the strangest feeling stirring in their chest, walk into the kitchen for Codsworth to serve them coffee- for them to drop the cup on the tiles when they spot the Vault-Tec guy climbing out of his van with his clipboard, hurrying toward the front door.

I wonder how Lucy, a kids teacher, would react when she learns that the Ghoul used to work at kids birthday parties, with his own kid.

Thing is
Daniel is right
Joshua claims to be a man of God but he still harbors The Malpais Legate within him and would probably kill Daniel and both tribes if he didn't get his way
However Daniel is also a hypocrite and is no better than Joshua
Sure he may be a pacifist and not kill the two tribes and Joshua if he didn't get his way but he shares more in common with Joshua then either of them would care to admit
Joshua wants to create a new Legion even if he doesn't want to admit it or even if he doesn't actually know it that's what he's doing he's trying to create his own Legion starting with The Sorrows and Dead Horses
Daniel on the other hand is also trying to erase their identities and going "No, you're way of life is wrong. There are no other Gods other than The Lord. If you keep on with this path and straying from The Lord's light, you shall burn in Hell forever."
Joshua wants to create a second Legion and Daniel wants to rebuild the Christian church yes Ik Daniel isn't Christian he's Mormon but shhhh and both want to do this by manipulating tribals and erasing their identities

ok but like think about how joshua graham was sitting there in deep denial about how he was projecting his own desire for revenge against caesar onto his faith, right? and how he probably knew that shit deep down even if he was delulu about it which is why he hadn't outright decided that taking down caesar in the name of the lord or as a holy war was the long game or whatever. it's cooking, it's there, but the idea of acting on it feels bad to him for some reason, and he's probably talking to God about it a lot but honestly using the internal dialogue of prayer to try and convince himself that it can be justified eventually, but he still can't unwrap why that makes him feel so guilty and full of shame deep down, so he keeps brushing those feelings of shame aside and pretends it's the same guilt and shame that comes from his hand in building the Legion. not only is he wrestling with his desires to take his revenge and act on his hurt and anger, but he's wrestling with WHY he's wrestling with it.
and then the Courier shows up in Joshua's gun cave out of seemingly nowhere following such a coincidental and random happenstance that not only led them to Zion but led them to meet Follows-Chalk and by extension Joshua, and waves and is like 'oh, I killed Caesar btw!'
like, on the surface he takes that well, but deep down inside? Do you think he was freaking out? Do you think he felt this inexplicable sense of relief wash over him because he no longer had to make that decision? Do you think he was secretly thankful because he wasn't ready to address his own anger and the fact he hadn't truly healed in the way that's become his identity and what keeps him going? Was he thankful that he wouldn't have to unpack why he still felt so angry about what Caesar did to him when Joshua's done far worse to far more people for far less, that he wouldn't have to admit that it was the betrayal of his closest and most trusted companion that hurt the most and left him literally too angry to die?
Do you think he felt that relief and looked at the Courier and decided that the Courier was something divine? A message from God? Sent by the Lord to relieve Joshua of that burden? Do you think that's why Joshua was so ready to listen to the Courier when they pushed him to spare Salt-Upon-Wounds? Do you think Joshua looked at the Courier in awe of God's grace, or in fear that God knew exactly what was in Joshua's heart?

it's funny how, despite being much beefier in design, due to how the game handles things i am far less afraid of deathclaws in fo4 that i am in fnv. vegas deathclaws send me into a panic but in 4 i'll just climb a rock and idly shoot them to death

IDK if anyone is in this boat with me but I don’t really… care… about The Ghoul? I think I am just really bored with “ooooh edgy male character with a persona is Secretly So Sad :0((( he’s sooo sad and that makes him sooo mean” characters. I am MUCH more interested in the nuance of Maximus and Lucy and how they are basically inverted, innocent-cynical versions of one another.
Also I hate the idea of Lucy and The Ghoul getting shipped together that’s literally her foil and the character through which she speedruns understanding the cruelty of the wasteland (also he’s sooo much older than her and soooo mean to her so IDK why people are so insistent they fit together)
So anyways

Another reason why I think Hancock would have a crush on the Sole Survivor besides the obvious fact that you're out here helping the people of the Commonwealth, or how he thought you were an innocent vault dweller who needed protecting, is the fact that he's finally got someone he can be emotionally vulnerable with. Being the mayor of such a dangerous place like Goodneighbor means he needs to keep up a reputation to match it. There's no room for him to be soft or emotional in a place like this.
He's happy when strangers know who he is for having reputation that precedes him for being deadly because it eliminates any chances of someone out there possibly getting the idea that he might actually have a sweeter, more caring side. That's one of the main reasons why he even killed Finn in the first place. But he WANTS to be able to express softness. The problem is just that Goodneighbor isn't the place to do it, and a lot of the kinds of people you find in the Commonwealth in general aren't really the greatest types to be emotionally open towards anyways. In a world like this, it's something that could very easily be held against him.
He tells you that it's lonely being mayor and that he's running out on the good things and people he's got. He tells you that he's always been the one telling others to keep the emotion out of relationships in the past, but here he is being open and emotional with you. He says that everyone is entitled to some softness, himself included… but after he opens up to you about running out on the good things in his life, he asks you not to tell anyone else. Not necessarily because of the fact that it's personal, but because of the fact that he's afraid of word spreading around about this more emotionally vulnerable side of him and that people will think he's crazy for it (and as a side note, let's be honest, we've all seen how society on a larger scale views emotionally vulnerable men as weak).
A lot (not all) of his contradicting ideals when you first meet him make so much more sense when you look at him through the lens of a man desperately trying to conceal and repress the more sensitive side to him. The way he just lets you get away with so much during The Big Dig questline, even if you take your time to do every little thing against him. It's obvious that he doesn't really care all too much about punishing you - he just likes knowing he still has the power to make people frantically scramble to please him, because it helps uphold his reputation.
If there's one thing Hancock hates being more than anything, it's being powerless and weak. His biggest traumas come from how he was unable to protect the ghouls in Diamond City from being exiled or protect the drifters in Goodneighbor from being abused by Vic. If people in the Commonwealth knew there was a softer side to him, a large majority of the more dangerous organizations, especially the ones operating in his town, would consider him weak. If Hancock was considered a weak leader, then he wouldn't be considered fit to protect the innocent people that he so sworn to protect.
It's always baffled everyone how Hancock doesn't show any sadness when it comes to the death of Fahrenheit or finding out his brother was replaced by a synth and killed years prior, but I'm starting to wonder if we've been looking at it the wrong way this entire time. Maybe Hancock's lack of being visibly upset over them had nothing to do with Bethesda making poor writing decisions (they kind of do tbh), but had everything to do with him repressing his emotions.
So when he gets to travel with YOU the player, who has no prior knowledge of him, his reputation or past (and you aren't just another citizen he has to put on a show for) he feels like he can let his walls down around you. He's allowed to be emotionally vulnerable because he doesn't have to pretend to BE someone for you, and in turn, he feels like he doesn't have to run anymore.
(That was a lot sorry but I tend to get my thoughts out better in the form of long ramblings. Honestly there's so many ways he can be interpreted though, but I guess this is just somewhat of an analysis/me theorizing a little)
