Many fans often envision The Conquerors in a Byzantine fashion, and it's quite fitting. The Byzantine Empire, also known as the Eastern Roman Empire, persisted as the continuation of the Roman Empire, surviving the challenges that led to the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century AD. Similarly, The Conquerors, the Targaryen family, survived the Doom of Valyria, making them the heirs and continuation of the Valyrian Freehold.
SO, If we picture ancient Valyrians donning attire akin to 1st-century Romans, like stolla dresses and palla cloaks for women and togas for men, it logically follows that The Conquerors, as inheritors of the empire, would don Byzantine clothing in their portrayal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
NOW! although the 6th-century Byzantine imperial costume boasts simplicity in silhouette, draping, and cut, it is truly elevated by its lavish bejeweled and embellished details.
Take, for instance, Empress Theodora's state costume: a white stola adorned with intricate gold and jewel embellishments at the hem, a purple paludamentum heavily embroidered with a luxurious gold border, and a prominently jeweled collar crowning the cloak—an iconic symbol of Byzantine fashion. Completing her regal ensemble is a headdress with cascading ropes of pearls. Meanwhile, her ladies in waiting don similar attire, albeit with fewer embellishments.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All in all, Byzantine fashion is all about garments embroidered with gold and adorned with pearls and jewels.
And it is this extravagant opulence I wanna see The Conquerors in - Aegon adorned in a blood-red paludamentum pinned gracefully on his right shoulder, while Visenya and Rhaenys don heavily bejeweled collars and intricate hairstyles.
Tumblr media
However, it doesn't have to be overly historically accurate. I believe that as long as certain 'iconic' Byzantine fashion elements are incorporated, the silhouette can be altered. Take, for example, the 19th-century depictions of Empress Theodora:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While most of them lack accuracy (with Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant's version being the closest to historical credibility), they successfully capture the essence of luxury, gold, and opulence.
Conclusion: I think if I were to draw The Conqueror sisters, I wouldn't necessarily adhere strictly to the historically accurate shapeless, modest silhouette. However, I would definitely strive to convey the essence of luxury and ornamentation in my depiction.

Bro like where did these early tumblr aesthetics go?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like one moment i was at a friends birthday party and it was mustache themed
And my mom could go to the mall and buy turquoise and owl shaped necklaces
And the next moment its all goneee ?!?!
Like these were some of the first styles of fashion that my little self stumbled upon years ago (except for goth which found me first but)
Yeah like all the malls and stuff had stores dedicated to one of these styles above
Now all malls are dead and idk what is even considered fashionable anymore.
Bro bring some of these back. They were cringe in ways but they were free.

I always love when people are genuinely shocked that someone else has a different fashion opinion than they do even though fashion is one of the most subjective things in the world. You don’t like it, it’s valid but the fact that I do is also valid. The world doesn’t revolve around one person’s opinions or aesthetic hence why there’s so much to choose from. Like you, I loved Catherine’s look today and glad she’s fully embracing big hats. I actually prefer this year’s hat to last year’s but I think she should go for dewy makeup/brown eyeliner/peach blush whenever she wears black, especially when it’s a big hat.
Yes… this is NOT directed at my other anons bc I think they were respectful and I didn’t get the vibe that they thought their opinion was the only valid one, this is just a frustration I have in general.
I see it allll the time and it really annoys me. There’s truly nothing wrong with not liking what Catherine wears sometimes! If Alessandra Rich is not your thing, that’s completely fine! If you don’t like her look, I love to discuss what worked for you and what didn’t! What I don’t like is when people 1) as you say think theirs is the only opinion that’s right or 2) let an outfit color their entire thoughts about an engagement or use it as some sort of character judgement. Things like “what was she thinking” “she needs to fire her stylist” “this is such a let down” really grinds my gears. She was thinking that she liked it - you don’t have to agree! I haven’t liked some outfits that she wears but the only thing that truly matters is that it is appropriate - and she’s never worn anything that hasn’t been. So I just feel like sometimes talk about the outfit becomes the most important thing when it should really just be one aspect of an engagement. And we should accept that good fashion is in the eye of the beholder and just because you didn’t like it doesn’t mean it’s bad, it just means you didn’t like it.

legit surprised to this day that people do not support Black brands that center fat people and that’s actually cute or sexy & trendy & what’s next in fashion. cause even from just an “im evil i wanna make a lot of money” way, so much money could be made if you made a trendy alternative to fashion nova, asos, rainbow, shein, super expensive customs, etc. for fat people looking for something that isn’t unflattering sacks or just drowning in fabric w bad drapes. like where’s the asata maise, theophilio, who decides war, against medical advice, mowalola, telfar, nicholas daley, wales bonner, bianca saunders, christopher john rodgers (besides the Target collection which was amazing because that collection really showed you can make cute dresses with a lot of limitation up to 5x, all new clothes should cost under $100 but luxury is basically defined as how much cant most Black globally afford this so yea), a cold wall, martine rose, thebe magugu, (def forgetting some) for fat Black people to rock? at least no sesso, hanifa & phlemuns go to a 3x and 5x while the rest barely have XL (still not enough tho). and sorry customs aint the same cause it is a whole process. dont even get me started on how most Black people cannot afford any of this. luxury is defined by anti-Blackness, specifically anti-Black classism.

the way i’m dreading cleaning out my closet so i can restart and build a collection of pieces i will actually wear and adore is craaaaaazyyyyy. but i’m honestly just as excited! i’ve consumed so much fast fashion in the last few years and have nothing to show for it because when i look in my closet, i hate almost everything i see or the pieces i did like, the quality wasn’t there so they didn’t hold up, lmao. too busy following fast fashion trends when i should have focused on building a collection filled with good basics and THEN focus on getting statement pieces that i *actually* like and aren’t just “trendy”. the past few years, i haven’t been dressing up and having fun with fashion. why? because i had nothing good to build an outfit out of, lol. plain & simple. closet full of shein pieces that are cute for a week and last even less. so 2023, we’re building a strong foundation of basics and being conscious shoppers 🧏🏽‍♀️

Fashion Friday: Ghostbusters Afterlife
Tumblr media
I know what you’re thinking. What does Ghostbusters have to do with fashion!? Well to be honest not much. But I felt like I should start here since I just saw the new movie, Ghostbusters Afterlife. I know it’s been out for almost a year, but I’ve been waiting for it to come out on Blu Ray since the only way you can stream it is to buy the movie. So I might as well have the actual physical media if I had to buy it anyway.
With that said, the movie was well worth the wait. In more ways than one. This movie is a sequel to the original 1984 movie (and technically it’s 1989 sequel but more the 84 film). And it is a fantastic sequel. You see I’m not a huge Ghostbusters fan. But I did grow up watching the Real Ghostbusters cartoon and I watch the movies every year around Halloween. Admittedly this movie is not as funny as the original, but it is more emotionally satisfying. Director Jason Reitman infuses his love of character study with his father’s original vision. From here on be spoilers. Fair warning.
This movie is about Egon and his family. Specifically it’s about unfinished business. That’s why people believe in ghost stories to begin with. Some people die before they resolve issues with family or friends or leave behind work that must be finished. Egon dies in the first five minutes of the movie leaving unfinished business with all aspects of his life.
Having discovered Gozer might return, Egon leaves New York with most of the Ghostbuster gear because his fellow Ghostbusters don’t believe him. Hence their falling out. Egon apparently even left behind a wife or girlfriend (that we never meet) that gives birth to a daughter named Callie. She grows up to be a resentful cynic who thinks Egon never cared about her. One loser ex husband and two kids later she’s a single mom that just got evicted and inherits her Dad’s dirt farm in Oklahoma. And his debt. So the farm isn’t even worth anything.
What I love about the movie is we discover who Egon really was through his granddaughter Phoebe, who is basically his mini me. His ghosts starts to make himself known to her and she in turns discovers his lab and his old gear and the movie slowly unfolds the story as a supernatural mystery straight out of the eighties. The original movies we only really got to know Peter. So the focus on Egon is a nice change of pace.
The ending is especially perfect. The other Ghostbusters return to help fight Gozer but they’re a little rusty. Yet our pint size hero Phoebe tries to take on Gozer herself but the god is almost too much for her. Which is when Egon takes corporal form and steady’s Phoebe’s hand, helping her.
The CG they did to bring Harold Ramos back on screen is flawless. And tasteful. Egon never says a word. There’s even a shot of the Original Ghostbusters all lined up again in one shot. And when Gozer is defeated, the Ghostbusters get their chance to say goodbye to their friend. Something I’m sure was cathartic to the actors. Then they have Egon meet his grandkids and then hug his daughter. Before fading away into stardust and a simple dedication. For Harold. That’s the end of the movie. And even a casual Ghostbusters fan like me is teary eyed by that point. I’m tearing up now as I write this.
Ghostbusters has been a pop culture icon for nearly forty years. Literally as long as I have been alive. There are fans so dedicated to this fandom they form their own Ghostbuster crews in their respective cities. Fashion is a reflection of our culture. A time capsule. Movies are too. So I’m thinking of designing my own Ghostbusters shirt. Also I want to recreate the Gatekeeper dresses from both the 84 film and Afterlife
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also have this idea to make a jacket inspired by Gozer in Afterlife. That costume was a major upgrade. The original was basically a flesh and white bodysuit with faux bubbles on the shoulders and torso.
The new costume looks like an exoskeleton with spikes on the shoulders and they enhanced it with CG to have Gozer actually light up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ll post designs next week. Hopefully that won’t be my unfinished business. Because that’s why I’m starting this series. To finish a dream I’ve started. To leave behind a legacy. To capture my own moment of time. When I became a Ghostbusters fan.

I'm entering my office girl era-- I just purchased four pairs of pixie pants from old navy, and when they get here, I will have a total of 6 pairs of pixie pants/trousers from old navy. It turns out that I can no longer stand jean material in a skinny jean format for reasons unknownst to even myself. I can however stand the smooth and slightly stretchy polyester fabric of pixie pants. Am I getting old? yes, she said at the ripe wrinkly age of 28, but also I must admit that I like the looser/straighter sillouhette and the punk-ish aesthetic when I pair my trousers with docs.

The Back Pearl of Braavos and 16th century Venetian Fashion:
There is a common consensus among fans that Braavos - a city sited on a group of small islands that are linked by bridges and walkways, divided by canals, channels and waterways of varying size - is heavily inspired by Italian mercantile/maritime republics, of which Venice is the most famous.
Furthermore, the canal-based, inter-connecting island architecture is not the only similarity between Braavos and Venice; both cities are famed for their courtesans.
Indeed in 16th century, Venice was famed for its many elaborately dressed and coiffed courtesans; Veronica Franco (1546–1591) is a famous example! She developed her position in Renaissance Venetian society as a cortigiana onesta (Honest Courtesan), known for her notable clientele, feminist advocacy, literary contributions, and philanthropy.
Her fictional parallel in ASOIAF could be Bellegere Otherys II - one of the famed courtesans in Braavos (the other being Daughter of the Dusk). We know Bellegere comes from a family of courtesans, bearing the title of Black Pearl of Braavos - a moniker borne by a descendant of Bellegere Otherys I, the first Black Pearl, a pirate queen who became a mistress of Aegon IV Targaryen.
The eldest bastard daughter of King Aegon IV and Bellegere, Bellenora Otherys, became a courtesan under the same name. Bellenora's descendants became courtesans as well, each eventually bearing the name "Black Pearl".
We can also assume that Bellegere is rather wealthy, owning her own barge and servants to pole her to trysts and when purchasing three cockles from Arya, who is disguised as Cat of the Canals, paying ten times what the cockles are worth. This wealth is directly reflected in her clothing!
"She was so lovely that the lamps seemed to burn brighter when she passed. She had dressed in a low-cut gown of pale yellow silk, startling against the light brown of her skin. Her black hair was bound up in a net of spun gold, and a jet-and-gold necklace brushed against the top of her full breasts." (TWOW, Mercy)
The aforementioned "low-cut gown" immediately brings to mind the 16th century gowns worn by Venetian courtesans!
Look at this art print of a Venetian Courtesan (Cortigiana Veneta) published by Pietro Bertelli in 1591.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Notice the incredibly low and exposed neckline of the gown!
It is important to mention, however, that not only courtesans dressed this way. Venetian noblewomen of the 16th century also bared their breasts in keeping with the fashion of the day.
For example, look at this art print of a Venetian Bride (Sposa Veneta), also by Pietro Bertelli. There is virtually no difference; perhaps that is why the civic authorities decried the courtesans' deliberately misleading resemblance to 'honest women.'
Tumblr media
In some portrayals, the Venetian woman's neckline opens almost immediately below the breast!
In Dress of Venetian Women (Habiti delle Donne Venetiane) ca. 1591–1610, the engravings done by Giacomo Franco show ornately dressed courtesans and respectable women, all of whom sport very low cut bodices.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the second plate we see a depiction of parentado, or the ritual presentation of a bride to her relations. Here, a bride in a richly embroidered dress wearing pearls and a bejeweled crown is presented by her ballerino, a dance instructor who prevented the woman from toppling over in her chopines, or platform shoes.
In conclusion, in depicting Bellegere Otherys - the Black Pearl of Braavos - I would most definitely illustrate her wearing a gown inspired by 16th century Venetian dress (worn by both courtesans and noblewomen). She'd look rather striking I think.

Dressing TXT in Dior SS24 Womens Collection
as a reminder, this is what TXT wore to the 2023 MAMA red carpet:
Tumblr media
save for taehyun and yeonjun (if only the clothing were altered to fit him better 😩), their outfits don’t really seem impressive enough for a red carpet event. the fabrics are stiff and the color palette is dull.
it’s a shame they skipped on the other accessories/details from the mens resort collection bc it could have added more visual interest to their outfits! and they could have gone for the more colorful pieces from the line so they wouldn’t look so washed out ☹️
that said, why not imagine if txt wore pieces from the dior women’s collections too 🤔
like… i can see yeonjun in these!! emphasizes his long legs and his nonchalant persona (albeit not exactly the most impressive for a red carpet appearance for an awards show, i think it'd still garner a lot of attention *cough 2022 AMAs Yeonjun*)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think these jackets/vests would suit Hueningkai. He has the frame for it and he looks pretty good in black. Him in black lace is always going to be legendary so they could use a similar fabric combo for red carpet styling!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I can see Beomgyu in the outfit on the left (but maybe swap out the dress for similarly printed separates if a dress would be too "out there") , while the outfit on the right could suit taegyu (combo of the leather jacket and sheer, textured fabrics 😩)!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
soobin could totally pull off the pussybow top and the printed coat!!! he has the build for these dramatic elements, mixed in with the softer fabrics and prints
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the fringe jacket/details could suit soobin too, imo. the sheer details from both these outfits/tops could also suit taehyun (similar vibe to his outfit today) 🤔
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ok it's a little visually boring for txt and not exactly a red carpet outfit but i think soogyu could kill in this last outfit as it draws attention to their waist
Tumblr media
imo, dior is not exactly the most ideal fashion house for txt as the former tends to lean towards stiffer, more geometric silhouttes and relatively muted palettes (can you believe these are all from their SPRING/SUMMER 2024 collection??), which could be a visual mismatch for txt (the first set of lolla 2023 outfits looked so out of place for a rock festival 🥲)
that said, i think if they had a little more freedom in styling the pieces from the entire dior catalogue (mens and womens), it could be more on brand!!
if you've reached this far, thanks so much for exploring this silly little imagining exercise with me! let me know your thoughts too 🫶

Who also has a love hate relationship with jewelry.
Like so many pieces of jewelry are outfit specific that it makes it hard to wear it with other things.
Like I'll buy a necklace or a bracelet that I think looks nice, realize that it only looks good on like two outfits, and then I never wear it, so then I have to buy MORE jewelry that fits other outfits but then I never end up wearing those either.
And simplicity isn't the issue either.
Like I have a plain cream colored beaded bracelet and plain gold small chain link necklace and I think they look so nice but when I try to go into my closet to see how they pair with my clothes literally only like two shirts go with their style.
And then I have super elaborate chokers that literally only go with one outfit.
And I love all theae accessories but I am also frustrated that I can't wear them more because they are so outfit specific.
