hi, dev! I hope you don't mind me asking this question, but as a gifmaker with prosopagnosia (face blindness), what draws you toward certain faces when it comes to giffing and roleplay?

i'm autistic, so i'm just innately curious about disability shaping and framing experiences with stuff in ways those without a disability might not consider/conceptualize initially. i also notice you tend to have a lot of muse for giffing katherine mcnamara - she seems to be a favorite of yours.

I don't mind questions at all! As an autistic person also I get the curiosity and always wonder about others experiences too with things!

Honestly what draws me to faces I tend to gif a lot of on personal time is I gravitate to people with kind looking faces if that makes sense? I've seen it described as soft features too so it's hard to describe. But I really seem to attach to faces that look kind? I also have a thing for redheads, which has become sort of a meme, love it though. I always feel bad when someone asks me how do i choose my favourites to gif when it's completely based on how I view kindness in their face, idk if there's a better way to describe it but hopefully listing some of my faves to gif and also to play/use might help which are:

Katherine has been my favourite actress for years, and she also ended up playing my favourite character ever (Clary) so my attachment to her is extremely high and just keeps growing. Which I could write an essay on how people thought my attachment to her was adorable until it came out I was autistic and suddenly certain people found it creepy and disturbing and made me untrustworthy so there's that (:

You are right though I have infinite muse for her both to use in rp and to gif. I could gif her every second of every day and never get bored.

*picks up Valyrion and hurls him at you* He's a fresh salad, awakened a year and a half ago and is incredibly excited by anything everywhere as long as it isn't natural. He can talk about clay buildings for hours. He once paid a man five gold coins to show him the sewers of DR. He grows houses for a living and sells them for dirt cheap because "they're nothing special" He has a fernhound that just started following him around one day and never left. He goes wild over human clothes with flower patterns.

Y'know, I think he might actually get along with Regan, once she's warmed up a bit.

Regan's a Scrapper in game, but she's an inventor and mechanist by trade - she loves developing and creating things, things that are most definitely not natural.

Valyrion's open enthusiasm would be a welcome counter to the snide remarks she's used to from her peers. She also definitely has a soft spot for dogs and dog-like-creatures so, the fern hound would be welcome as well!

She'd be impressed by his grown homes and offer to instil extra protective measures, if that's something he'd be interested in - but likely she'd just enjoy the easy chatter and having someone around to share inventions with!

[meta] Does your character have any unlikely or unforeseen relationships?

Clay was a character written without any established pre-existent connections. While some relationships could've been predicted, Clay as a character has turned out quite different then how I originally imagined (such is the organic nature of RP)

One that was not planned for was Clay's association with Cass. I didn't quite expect Clay to come to respect Cass' devotion to others so deeply, despite inwardly knowing the more grim aspects of his work are incompatible with her morality.

Metzli was a surprise. It's been interesting to gauge Clay's willingness to help one of the undead become ensouled, despite accepting that success on that path of a humane vampire being very unlikely.

Generally, a number of Clay's relationships are predicated on Clay being friendly while patiently waiting for the time the person's slips up and duty calls for him to mercykill them. (I'm sure its fine.)

While its perhaps predictable that Clay would have relationships with Emilio, Kaden, and Thomas, hunter dudes after all. It's been interesting to see the differences in their perspective.

For example Emilio and Clay both struggle to process the scarring things they experienced, but Emilio seems (to me at least) to more embrace adrenaline and thorniness, while Clay retreats into zany antics that hide how much the fight has eroded his humanity. Likewise, Clay and Thomas both profiteer from their practice, but they differ in how their Profit vs Duty quotient stacks up. Clay and Kaden have known each other for a long time, but while Kaden has progressed emotionally, Clay has regressed, While once it was Kaden who was devoted to Hunting completely, now its Clay whose lost his way and has forgotten the core emotions that caused him to take up the oaths in the first place.

Lol, Clay's initial interactions with Regan were a glorious disaster that only built in confusion, and i would have it no other way.

Nadia's empathy adds an interesting and unforeseen aspect to their friendship, given Clay's use of the psychic ferns, its also amusing to write too very spiritually washed out people trying to do normal.

Marley and Clay were probably bound to cross path eventually. Did I expect it to be during rescuing Erin, against whom he committed so many photoshop sins? Not quite. But yeeting Nicholas Cage' kucklenut coven into the abyss how all spontaneous friendships start right?

Nell, daddymancer? Cursed, so cursed.

I did not anticipate Clay forming a working relationship with Gossip Snek the mercenary Bugologist, however I've personally found the sharp contrast in Anita and Clay's personalities to be fun.

Quit Buggin’ || Regan & Ant

TIMING: Current LOCATION: Around town + Flores Flores PARTIES: @kadavernagh and @anthemicantipathy SUMMARY: Sunning yourself is dangerous when you’re pixie-sized. Fortunately, Ant is a Friend To Insects.

Dang it. Ant hadn’t wanted to be late to the shop today. Summer had set in fully and, with it, plenty of citizens wanting to buy all manner of flowers, herbs, bush starters, and gardening tools for the new planting season. It wasn’t as busy as March, not remotely, but it was hard for any one person to do on their own. And with Má out of town for a spa trip she’d won from some radio contest, Carla was holding down the shop. Carla, who was the only Flores to have ever killed a plant. Carla, who would rather hide behind their ferns than speak to a customer. He should have been there. But no, the college had him filling out course paperwork in-person, an ‘ever-helpful’ (read: busybody) upperclassman to ‘guide’ him along the way. As a ‘non-traditional student,’ Ant was assigned a separate Dean, one who was, in a word, involved with their students. It drove Ant up the wall. It was barely July, couldn’t he just decide courses later? He pedaled harder, trying to will his bike to cut through midday traffic and break through Downtown and back to the Bend, back to Flores Flores, back to things that mattered.

Even with all of the pollen and insects drifting into her apartment, Regan had never been more happy to have one of her windows accidentally left open. Thank you, Blanche. After being cooped up inside for days on end with nothing to do other than feel sorry for herself, it felt good to just have the sun shining on her face. She sat up on the windowsill and did her best not to look down. She’d been doing a lot of that lately — trying not to think about the deadly distance between herself and even the floor of her apartment below. But even just a two story drop felt like the view from the top of the Empire State Building. Don’t think about it. She kept her eyes closed and let sleep take hold. She was big in her dreams — normal-sized again; sleep was practically the only respite, and she welcomed it. 

Claws around her arm jolted her awake. Her head shot up at the bird, then down down at her dangling feet, and the cars whizzing past and the subadult on a bicycle and the nothing absolutely nothing directly underneath her. Regan couldn’t keep the scream in her chest; it exploded out of her, and the bird immediately cawed in pain, talons twitching as she slipped out and plummeted down, down, down. The force of the air around her was practically blinding and deafening, and the ground was getting closer and closer and — the wings. Wings! Rumpleskuffs! They flung open and even though she couldn’t move the damn things quickly enough and didn’t know what to do or how to do it and death seemed to be rapidly approaching, they slowed her descent enough that the thunk as she landed in the basket of a bicycle didn’t outright kill her. Her patellas smacked against the bottom and she screamed again — or maybe never stopped — and she felt the ground underneath her move and swerve and nausea stabbed at her stomach. 

The early summer sun beat down on Ant’s back, coming up in waves off of the pavement. Midday, when folks would be the most likely to dip into the shop, if only for a brief rest from the heat. God, Antonio hoped the air conditioner hadn’t broken down again. A sharp sound, a… a scream, almost, drew him out of his mission and, for a moment he slowed down. The sustained note came to him, after a fraction of a second, as black, deep and dark and unexpected. Not many things registered, in his long experience, as such a pure black. Ant didn’t know enough of the science, but he did know something about art. He’d always privately thought of black as a combination of different frequencies, maybe, notable for how much it drew him out of his daily experience, made him want everything to stop. Most times, the colors were background noise. But not black.

It was coming closer. The whizzing, high-pitched noise was getting louder and louder, and Antonio brought his bike to a sharp stop, if only to cover his ears from the sound and try and drown it out. His eyes, though, were open, and that’s how he saw it. Something big landed with a felt-thunk into his old, reliable basket. Huh? He pulled his bike to the side of the road, kicked the stand out, and stood, approaching the basket with caution. He didn’t know what it could have been… but he wasn’t about to lose an eye to a freaky bug. After all, he only had two eyes. When he peered into the basket, he wasn’t really sure what he was looking at. A brilliant shade of green, the bug — it had to be some sort of bug, right? — appeared to be moving. Was it hurt? Could bugs feel hurt? Ant wished he hadn’t slept so much in biology. Still wouldn’t understand anything, but he’d feel that maybe he could know something, instead of, whatever, knowing that he didn’t know something. There was a lid to the basket, and he brought his hands up to it, bringing his face closer to get a better look… 

Everything was blurry. Regan winked her eyes open and tried to gain her bearings. She was somewhere dark, surrounded by walls on all sides, but when she looked up, there was a clear, blue sky. Everything seemed to move around her. She remembered — the bird. The scream. The fall. Was she concussed? Regan managed to pull herself to her knees, gritting her teeth against the ache of her bones. The wings flittered in pain. “Vestibular oculomotor assessment. Cervical spine. Balance. Right. I remember how —” She blinked again, groaning as she pulled herself to her feet, palming the side of… something for support. She didn’t have everything required for a proper assessment, but she’d have to make due. Regan extended an arm, frowning at the talon marks in her skin, and held a finger up straight ahead of her. Slowly moved it toward her forehead to check for double vision. As she was taking assessment, she nearly screamed again as a shadow loomed over her. Regan froze, head slowly tilting up. Two huge, curious, dark eyes peered down at her, fingers curled around the edge of… whatever she was inside of. Regan stumbled backwards, falling on her coccyx again. “Who are you? I don’t — where am I?”

Antonio squinted at the insect in his basket, watching as the bug chittered and checked its wings. Cicada-like? The screaming… Oh, of course. His má had warned him about the oncoming screamers, the cicadas that made Maine their home; they weren’t quite locusts, more of a plague to Ant’s poor ears than anything else. Picking the carcases off of the plants and putting them in with the compost was a menial task, but one that Antonio was happy to do. The creature was… looking at him? A dark head, green — again, what a good shade, he should try to mix that… Ah. An idea occurred to him. If the cicada stayed out here, in the hot sun, injured as it must be, it would get picked up by a bird and hurt. Ant didn’t want that to happen to it. It was small, sure, but the cicadas lived their life underground, and Antonio, once this day was over, would have time to ask Isabel for her help in finding the best way to return it to the wild. This was her domain; unlike Carla or Veronica, Isabel had always loved digging in the ground, finding new things to study. It was only expected that she would become an ent— ant— insect-person; Antonio could never remember the name, too close, in his mind, to other, more accurate, words. The bug chittered at him again, still in the basket, and Ant made his decision. “I’ll keep you safe,” he said, giving a gentle wave to the cicada, and closed the lid of the basket. He would just have to make the trip back a little slower. Carla would be fine. Probably.

The head that was casting a dark shadow over whatever thing Regan was inside was looming closer and closer and eyeing her with what looked like curiosity. The lack of malice on his face didn’t really matter; it was terrifying. She could smell his breath and see every tooth in his mouth. “Hey, answer me!” She screeched, balling up her fists. She couldn’t feel movement anymore, but she didn’t like feeling trapped. There seemed to be no stairs, no doors, no obvious way to climb out of whatever was holding her right now. “I’m a medical doctor! You can’t keep me here! And I don’t need to be kept safe, I need to make sure I’m not concussed.” She looked up, past his head, and wondered just how far she’d fallen. It was surprising she wasn’t dead. She’d had decedents that had died of much shorter falls. Regan twisted her neck back to check the wings. Had they actually functioned? “Am I in a car? Somehow? Pull over and let me out, immediately, and I won’t call the police.” Was he ignoring her? But something covered the container she was in, and Regan was pitched into darkness. She was trapped. Really trapped. She did the only thing she could think to do — she inhaled a deep breath and screamed.

Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow. The little bug was unhappy, Antonio could understand that much. Flashes of black surged at the edges of his vision, the sustained way the scream echoed around his head making the color of the sound more visceral than it normally was. “Just a little longer,” he said, though the bug obviously couldn’t understand him. He would place it in with the butterflies in their terrarium, so that it didn’t get hurt. There was plenty of dirt there; maybe it would burrow? Ant didn’t know a ton about the species, but, at least in his head, living underground meant that you needed a way to get there. The butterflies wouldn’t bother it; many of them were still in cocoons, this life cycle, and wouldn’t be ready to be dispersed into the makeshift greenhouse that they used the adjacent lot for for a little while longer. The screaming — strangely, it almost sounded like a scream — continued as he pedaled faster. He didn’t want to hurt the bug, but he didn’t want to have to pull over again to plug his ears while the cicada settled either. He was already so late. When he arrived at Flores Flores, he was confronted with twin emotions: one, relief that the store was not overwhelmed in his absence; two, irritation, that the store had not been overwhelmed in his absence. As much flak as he gave Carla, she had been raised by the same parents he had; she knew when it was time to stow her fear. Antonio locked his bike to a pipe in the alley beside the store and lifted the basket up gently, not wanting to irritate the insect anymore than he already had. The bell dinged to the store as he walked through and he saw why no one was coming inside. “Carla!” he called, not seeing his little sister anywhere obvious. “You had better be calling a repairman!” Ant turned to the terrarium, knowing he should put the insect somewhere safe before dealing with this issue, and, carefully, scooped the bug out and sat it in a pile of leaves. “There you go, all set? Isabel will be home for you soon.”

All Regan could feel was movement. She was slammed against the sides of the container holding her, stomach flipping as bile tried to creep up her throat. The only thing that came out was a long, loud scream. Her feet couldn’t find purchase on the floor and her arms and body kept banging against the hard surfaces; she could feel the blood pooling in the dermis of her skin, contusions forming. It felt like an eternity later, but the movement finally stopped, jerking her organs practically up her throat. Everything felt still and dead, and she collapsed to her feet as the scream burned itself out. She didn’t have more oxygen to expend as the container moved again, swaying with each step that the man was taking. There were muffled voices, and Regan banged on the side with her fist. “Open this thing up! You could be arrested for this!” 

It happened so fast. Light shined onto her as the container was open, and two giant hands reached in to cup her. Regan writhed to escape, but her body ached and even the scream that flew out of her barely resonated. She squeezed her eyes shut against the pain and nausea and only opened them when she felt a hard surface underneath her. 

There was a wall of glass. She swiveled her head around. Four walls of glass. She was in -- Regan took stock of the grass and leaves around her, the butterflies, the screened in cover. She was in a terrarium. She tried hard to scream, but could only cough -- her throat was hoarse and raw and her bones were heavy. 

The glass didn’t crack. For once, she wanted it to. 

Something pulled at her, licked at her senses. Regan pulled herself to her feet using a twig, and followed where her feet were leading her. There, at the side of the tank, was the massive body of a dead butterfly. She blinked at it, reaching out. Slid her hand over its wings as tiny pigment scales rubbed off on her fingers. Regan’s stomach plummeted. It had died here. And while the other butterflies seemed content enough, flapping about or cozy in their chrysalides, she wanted to understand what had happened. Right now, it seemed like the only thing that could actually have a solid answer. A second butterfly flittered over and landed, looking straight at her with its impassive eyes. “I’m a doctor, you know.” Regan told it. But… she looked down at her hands. This wasn’t an autopsy suite; she didn’t have her instruments or protective equipment or anything. Was there anything that could be --

As her eyes landed on a remarkably smock-shaped leaf and some thorns, she felt the first flutter of hope and happiness she’d had all week. Regan would get out of here. But first, she would work.

HSBC Dubai Sevens: the All Blacks Sevens and Black Ferns Sevens kick off their international season in Dubai

The All Blacks Sevens and Black Ferns Sevens, the reigning World Series Champions, begin their international campaign in Dubai the following weekend. DUBAI HSBC SVNS 2024, which will include the top 12 men’s and 12 women’s rugby sevens teams worldwide will take place at the Emirates Dubai 7s on December 2-3.

The Emirates Dubai Sevens kicks off the new SVNS series, which will make eight total stops throughout the world.

The Black Ferns Sevens will play France, Brazil, and Canada this weekend at the Abu Dhabi 7s Festival. They traveled to Abu Dhabi to train for the competition. This weekend, the All Blacks Sevens will fly out to Dubai.

In the New Year, the contracted squads for 2024 will be revealed.
