Francesca Zappia wrote Eliza and Her Monsters, that was a favorite last year, so I was looking forward to reading her new book, Katzenjammer. “Cat lives in her high school. The hallways expand and contract with the school’s breathing. No one can leave and everyone is transforming. Cat must find a way out. To di that, she’ll have to remember what put her there in the first place.” I’m still processing what I read in this book. I may have tried too hard to make meaning out of these imagined characters. The ending explains why Cat sees things the way she does. So many bullies in this book and the ending was incredibly sad. You want Cat to have at least a glimmer of hope but even that moment is ripped away (you just know it’s going to happen) This is YA but there are some violent images in these pages. Zappia writes about people that are on the fringe. Okay, so

It has taken me two days to finished this book and let me just say...I've not had a book do this to me in a long while.

To start, Eliza is just a brilliant character, Zappia really makes her relatable. The fact that she's this normal girl but when she sees herself as Lady Constellation she's different somehow.

What really got me about this book (other than the relatable main character) was the way Eliza and Wallace fell for each other.

How Zappia described it really threw me back to when me and my boyfriend first got together. Zappia really got the description down soo well, the tension and the anxiety of being with someone. The struggle of being so self conscious about yourself to do anything but the need to be with that person. All I can say is... she hit the nail on the head.

I have fallen in love with this book, in fact I'm writing this a 12am when I have to be up for work in 7 hours but I just had to write this down because I have to share this book. I'm so in love with the writing I've literally finished the last page, put it down, gone on amazon and ordered her two other published books -Made you up and Now entering Adamsville

I'm so excited to get these books... however, they will have to go on my TBR pile as there are many books I've had longer that are there and it just wouldn't be fair to bump these to the top.

ELIZA AND HER MONSTERS by @chessiezappia which was the FIRST COPY she got from her publisher and she gave it to me??? Like. I don’t even know. • • • 2. MADE YOU UP, also by @chessiezappia, because I adore her and have read everything she’s ever written, published or not. (Tbh the unpublished stuff is my favorite stuff, y’all just wait.) • • • 3. OATHBRINGER by @brandsanderson in which I MADE HIM APOLOGIZE for killing a specific character, and then he pulled a #sorrynotsorry on me. (Also, that was my first Stormlight Beta Read for him so he put a smiley next to my name in the acknowledgements ☺️) • • • 4. A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC by @veschwab, which was the first book of hers I ever picked up. I asked her to sign a random page instead of the front, and she added in a quote from earlier in the book. I’m pretty sure that scene was the first thing she imagined when ADSOM came into being, and it makes my heart so happy that she signed it on that page ❤️ • • • 5. THE RITHMATIST by @brandsanderson, which I had him sign on a random page and he added a little quote from the book. This is my FAVORITE Sanderson book because of the magic system and the final “battle” scene. 🌻5 Star Stack🌻 QOTD: What’s a book you would have in your 5 star stack? These are a few of mine. I have quite a few but these take the cake. The Hunger Games: my all time favorite they got me into reading and wow. 😍 The Worst Best Man, this was so good! I’d typically find the situation a tad odd but the writing, the romance, 😍. This was one of my first adult romances and wow. 🥵 Cinder, gosh. I’ve talking about it so much, but I love retellings and the world of sci-fi. This series is great! Eliza and Her Monsters! Ugh. I’m so in love, every time I reread it, I fall in love again. I love the mix between a regular format and then it includes art from the (essentially webtoon) it includes. The Prison Healer. 😍😍 definitely one of my most recent 5 star! This was incredible. I did predict some of it but I love this still. It was so good and I cannot wait for the sequel to be out! Also, I read the other day, that a 5 star is not necessarily a favorite. What do you think? I never thought this way but then I read a book and it was great, really a 5 star but it wasn’t my favorite and I was like 🤯 These pictured though, DEFINITE favorites! I can’t wait to reread them or continue with the series. I’m also tagging a few of my girls to show their 5 stars.
