how many OCs do you have this moment? 📖

i have a lot of OCs! i use an OC storage website to keep track, but even then, i don't have every single character there. but i have around 200, pretty much. at minimum!

the truth is, i have been creating my own little characters and stories since i was little. and, i tend to not easily let go of them, so several of them have been "evolving" over several years as i come back to them. thats why i have so many.

for example, some of my oldest OCs have origins from when i was around 8 years old! it helps that i keep pretty much, anything, so i can come back and discover what I was creating back in those days and rework them.

i go in phases as to which ones are the most on my mind, but since i have a lot....!!

mostly the ones i'm focused on these days are my touhou ocs ive been creating, like Crystal Future and Akane Kawase, and Lucky the harpy!

in fact, here is a little preview of a new touhou oc i am creating now:

i've been trying to work more on actually developing my ocs, since that is the hardest thing for me. like their personality, what drives them, things like that.

hello, i was curious if there happened to be any example plays of your Next Dream ttrpg even if only from your own experience? reading the rules and ideas in it was really fascinating and fun in of itself

i've run it with three different groups over the course of its development, though never ended up compiling those experiences into play examples. also thank you for asking about next dream, my GMless touhou ttrpg in the belonging outside belonging system!

i do have an excerpt from the channel where we logged all the moves we made to accompany the voice chat, which might help shine a light on the mechanical flow of things between the roleplaying we were doing. more below the cut:

THE CAST:

SUPPORTING CHARACTERS:

Minerva, the mistress of the sealed manor, Lunettodae's boss Cataract, a silent crocodile-headed mummy, Straw Dogs' puppet Flashbulb! Flights of Fancy, the wizard tourney's tengu announcer

THE OCCASION:

a wizard tournament held by Minerva (actual merlin's actual owl). to the victor goes a hat (actual merlin's actual wizard hat). in this bracket, ordinary jackal-headed taoist Straw Dogs faces off against dragonfly greatbow-wielder Lunettodae Futillodae. Straw Dogs had invited Magic Land Rainbow to watch her bout (they had a thing going, they're in love). however, Nemesis Enarei wanted to show Magic Land her weird hole, so this distracted her. during the bout, miranda and bizzuh passed around Flashbulb! to represent moves made by The Spell Cards and The Youkai.

i forget if Lunettodae announced spell cards during this bout or if she was just straight up aiming for killing blows on Straw Dogs every time. i think it was the latter.

when Straw Dogs spent a token to demonstrate her masteries, she used Cataract to intercept a killing blow. this killed Cataract. just because you're spending a token to do something very cool and get a moment playing to your strengths doesn't mean you should escape all consequences, especially if you've been put into that position by another character spending a token!

the reason it was particularly inopportune was because it was that moment, when Lunettodae's blades had lodged fatally in Straw Dogs' chest, that Magic Land arrived late at the bout. their eyes met. too late. instead of reporting her victory to her secluded mistress via her magic scouter, Lunettodae ripped it off, then flew off to brood on a cliffside. that wasn't even getting into the wild shit that happened back at Ena's hole. it was a juicy session!

hope this is illuminating! it might be fun and edifying to write up something like you find in the BOB book.

I can't say I have a favorite, but I do have a bug that I respect the most: centipedes. They are powerful, quick, and aggressive as all hell. Some regularly prey on rodents and other small mammals despite being considerably small than the centipede itself. Something about the body just seems to radiate viciousness to me too. Of all the bugs that I most definitely wouldn't want to see get scaled up, centipedes are at the top of the list... Hey, did you know that modern centipedes can trace their ancestory back to arthropleura, an anthropod that grew to an estimated 1.9 meters long? Don't worry though! It was probably an herbivore. Very comforting! Not at all like the two foot long dragonflies from the same era; we know those were carnivores.

In terms of gameplay, my favorite bug player character species is the humble ant. They get a bonus to Physical Strength and Charisma, with a penalty to Dexterity, high land speed, and a respectable HP and bonus to Civics skill checks. More than that though, they get Burrowing quality which lets them dig tunnels or move through the dirt quickly. I like to imagine an ant farmer with the best irrigation setup anyone's ever seen.

would you allow squirrels to live in your house ?

We actually used to have squirrels living in our roof when I was a kid! It was neat. But whether I'd have a squirrel in my flat? I've heard of a couple of squirrels with damaged legs who couldn't have survived in the wild staying with the people who rescued them. As far as I know they lived long and happy lives as pets, but for the most part I imagine squirrels prefer to roam as they please.

@freshlybakedspiderbread i went for this epic moth girl cuz she's kind of the cutest character in the game but also the game is like weirdly subtly mean to her and i don't know how much of it is on purpose. either way it means that she barely gets any spotlight in this game so of course i am going to go for her

every single character has like some shit going on like they want to do Woke Capitalism cuz they have a childhood dream or they Have Trouble Fitting In As An Immigrant Species (not kidding again this is a real thing in the game) but this bitch legitimately doesnt have anything going on other than being eally into marketing and running her solo marketing company thing. It's completely nakedly played straight to such an extent that it's like Okay Man. its not even a joke thing like anna fire emblem or whatever where she's like a meme woman whos there to help you Be Shopping whoever the fuck wrote her was just really invested in trying to create a woman who's like a barely-caricature of a mid 20s social media manager or whatever

there's a thing in her story about how she wants to impress her parents but its suchhhhh a non issue its like Who Cares. also a lot of shit on her just really makes her out to just suck ass but given how much of this game is about woke capitalism its hard to really figure out how much of that is intentional. she never shuts the fuck up about drinking coffee and the twenty thousand diseases it's giving her and she's literally literally always on her fuckin phone to the point where like if she gets seperated from it for like 2 seconds she gets a panic attack and noone talks about it. also her deck is straight up unambiguously the worse deck in the entire game. like if you tried to run a deck using mainly her cards it would either just straight up either be unplayable or incredibly high risk for very little reward relative to the other decks. Her marketing thing is like kind of useless also but thats more just the result of her being a late game character

i still have no idea what the fuck they were cooking but it's at least more interesting than like most of the rest of the game if only cuz it's so mildly baffling

Oh, that's a potentially long list, let me see if I can narrow it down.

I'd say my top 5 that left the biggest impression on me (In no particular order) were:

Justice League Unlimited (And the rest of the DCAU but that period specifically), just because of how many heroes/villains it exposed me to and how it showed them all existing together. It got me right at the start with Green Arrow being brought in to "Keep them honest" and the whole thing with Cadmus probably influenced a lot of my stories plot.

Static Shock (The tv show), cause of how it took the practically godlike world of DC heroes and showed it through the eyes of a local guy. And it being part of the DCAU meant they could interact with the other larger than life heroes and that was always fun. If you know the show you might be able to see some of my characters have pretty direct inspiration from some of the ones from the show.

SpiderMan (The 1994 tv show) For much the same reasons as Static Shock. The later parts with Madam Web were especially memorable but also the arc where he was mutating into that spider monster most likely had an effect on how I like characters whose powers betray them in some way.

Teen Titans (Again, the tv show). I just seem to like when heroes get to be part of larger teams. The funny episodes were always great but what really stuck with me were the serious arcs. Every arc with Slade has stuck with me but the arc that I remember the most was the one with Raven, where her dad nearly destroyed the world if not for the power of friendship. Tbh, that whole thing is probably where the importance of emotion relating to powers started in me. No wonder I drew Emma dressed as Raven last year.

X-Men (The 1992 show but also Evolution and all the other variants to minor degrees.) It's hard for me to pin down the exact reason for this one, but the overall concept of the powers being something your born with for better or worse, and the problems they can cause in ones life through it effecting your ability to do things and/or bringing on discrimination, all feel like the perfect superhero setting to me. Which is funny cause it's practically the opposite of the Justice League, which is also a hero world I love. I probably end up taking things from both worlds in my own stories as a result.

Bonus sixth entry: My Hero Academia. This one just showed me the absolute energy and hype you could have in hero media, owing to anime's style. The side story Vigilantes has also become a personal favourite since it focuses on those heroes that work outside the system.

he’s a former stray cat! the head chief lives in the same building as the residents of the retirement home and she took him in a few years ago, so now he’s everyone’s cat in a way :] there are many parts of the building he’s not allowed in for sanitary and security reasons (a looot of residents here would love to let him inside their rooms, obviously...) but he’s a nice clean boy who stays in the hallways and the community rooms and his sole presence makes a lot of old people happy

i think they are like soft pillows... HOWEVER! i am very biased towards this due to tojiko felt doll plushie experience. i think she should be soft...

i've said it before but i imagine tojiko a lot lot a boo from mairo games, or the ghosts from luigi's mansion. those guys have a soft, sort of cuddly look to them, even when they are clearly transparent like the luigi's mansion ghosts. what can i say except, she's a boo...

also, related to tojiko's ghost legs...i headcanon they start at her waist. a lot of people do just her legs, or starting at her knees, but i think its all ghost.

I doooooooo...

I was six or seven years old, sitting on the couch watching Star Trek TNG reruns with my father. Can't remember which episode it was, but Tomalok was in his second or third appearance so it was season 1 or 2, and the peaceful resolution confused me. Tomalok was a treacherous Romulan, yet Picard seemed to do everything he could to avoid just blasting the pointy eared asshole. My young American brain couldn't puzzle it through, so I asked my father, "dad, why doesn't Picard kill the bad guy? He's evil!"

He replied almost immediately, "because it would cause a war."

But ha, I immediately saw through a simple ploy. "The Enterprise could blast all the Romulans." The Enterprise D was by far the coolest thing I'd ever seen, so it made total sense that the flagship could lay waste to an entire fleet of D'Deridex warbirds.

"Even if it could, lots of people would die," the elder ginger replied. "Picard fixed the problem without people dying by being clever and persuasive. That's how kind, wise people solve their problems."

I still thought Picard should have wasted the sneaky bastard, but I also wanted to be a captain some day, so I figured there was something to this Not Fighting thing. I continued watching TNG and it sunk in hard. The character of Jean-Luc Picard was part of a world that offered a view of the future that I wanted to explore more. Trek hooked me into scifi more than anything else. Easy to recognize now how fanciful that future was, to the point of ridiculousness, but the optimism and ethical cornerstones of the Federation that appealed then are still ideals I think are well worth striving for.

sexuality: tbh i don't think she would have any particular preference. wtf gay little aegis gender: xbc as a whole seems pretty set on making pythra the FEEEMALE aegis and malos the MAAALE aegis and alvis as the one in between but personally i think Mythra should be much less gender than that. none of the aegises should be confined to the constraints of human gender. a ship: Mythra/Nia babeyyyyyyyyy a BROTP: she's so fun with Mòrag!! i also adore Mythra and Pyra having a sisterly dynamic. a NOTP: Addam. also not too keen on Mythra/Brighid but it's fun when it's a one-sided thing with Mythra being really confused about her own feelings random headcanon: she snores like a fucking chainsaw when she sleeps. also she's REALLY skilled with Nia's scimitar but complains it feels too lightweight compared to her own sword. general opinion: i actually do like Mythra a lot! she has a great personality and a compelling backstory. i think she is kinda weighed down by the main plot's dissonant pivots to fanservicey waifu moments with Rex, especially with how hard they wanted to assign her the tsundere role, but i try not to let those odd moments of cringe writing ruin my fondness for Mythra (and Pyra and Nia). Mythra's really cool and fun and funny!! she's just an unfortunate victim of government-assigned gender.

I live pretty close to one, yeah. There's a reasonably large forest a ten minutes' walk from my crib and I usually go there at least once a day in a desperate effort to photograph the black woodpecker which lives there and which keeps taunting me by hiding behind a tree trunk the moment I pull out my phone.
