Yuu definitely has the feel of a killer, but he's not doing anything in this world if he can help it. Whether Yuu killed for a reason and had a goal or was already trying to attone for when he did, he doesn't want to raise a weapon against anyone here if he can. The vibrance of everything just feels more lively and something is just humming under his skin, even in the monotony of a daily school life it feels less like the world that lead him to another path.

He'd never downplay any abuse or feelings anyone shares with them, no matter how grief filled they can get thinking about less evil people they've killed before. Would those people who looked no different from these students here have been having a good life, or... ? Nevermind. It's not worth thinking too much on anymore.

While Yuu keeps feeling better, even if it's perhaps the magical tinge of all things on this world keeping them stimulated, everyone else feelings more weary. The void一the one that is the hole in Yuu's heart from the actions he's committed一draws in all light and that includes all magic. That, or it's just how Yuu looks a bit too aware of everything around them at one time to be normal.

Leona and Lilia may be at odds at times in canon, but even these two can see the eyes of a killer from far away. They aren't averse to talking to Yuu, but Yuu does have to go through their personal interrogations to gain their trust. Grim just likes that Yuu knows how to cut food very well, and treats his "creepy eyes" like a feature and bonus (scares off the spineless students).
