Enschede - Paris 🚲 Á Paris 90 km 15 juni

Vanuit Écouen zal ik nog verschillende voorsteden van Parijs passeren alvorens in de

lichtstad te geraken. De eerste kilometers zijn kuitenbijters, maar dat wordt in Andilly ruimschoots beloond, plots heb ik vanuit ‘de hoogte’ uitzicht op Parijs. Vooral de Eifeltoren is te herkennen. Het zal nog wel een paar uur duren voordat ik daar ben. Eerst wil ik naar Saint Denis, langs de basiliek waar veel Franse koningen begraven zijn, en het Stade de France. In één van de straten passeert een postbode, en een hond staat met zijn kop boven het hek al luidkeels te blaffen, dan wordt er vervolgens nog meer geblaft, maar het is niet de hond, maar de postbode die werkelijk uit de kunst terugblaft. Geweldig!

Even naar twee uur en na ruim 800 kilometer passeer ik het bord Parijs. Ik ben van plan om op z’n gemak door de metropool te fietsen. Eerst langs het Parc de la Villette, waar tot 1974 het slachthuis van Parijs stond. Het is een heel mooi park waarin middenin La Géode ligt. Een grote bol die spiegeld. Van daaruit trek ik door de oude arbeiderswijken Ménilmontant en Belleville, waar Edith Piaf geboren is. Deze quartieren liggen op heuvels, met vaart ga ik richting westen van de stad.

Néé maar wat een aangename verrassing als ik de Rue de Rivoli opfiets. Midden in de straat is een brede strook voor fietsers aangelegd. Het is fantastisch om in deze atmosfeer de geneugten des levens te bespeuren. En dan ja het blijft een spektakel om te doen…de Champs Elysées op, met ook al zelfs een fietspad! Aangekomen bij de Arc de Triomphe, durf ik zelf voor een kwart de Étoile Charles de Gaulle op, de levensgrote rotonde waarop maar liefst 12 Boulevards uitkomen. Wat een spektakel.

Via de Avenue de Wagram en de daaropvolgende straten ben ik ooggetuige van een heerlijke onorganiseerde (verkeers)chaos. Het geclaxoneer is alom aanwezig. Lachwekkend gewoon, of men wil zeggen ‘aan de kanten, en nu rap een beetje…ja!’ 😉 Als fietser ben je hier echt in je voordeel. Ik had er echt zin in gekregen om hier deel te nemen aan het verkeer. Tal van rue’s volgden nog. Ik kreeg trek om te eten en belandde om half negen ‘s avonds iets ten zuiden van Parijs, in Bourg la Reine.

Onder het eten zat ik nog helemaal vol van dit avontuur. Een groot chapeau voor Parijs dat een echte fietsstad geworden is en waar al heel veel tegenwoordig op de tweewieler rond toeren. Ik kan het iedereen aanraden. In het begin is het wel even wennen, maar al snel word je als het ware gehallucineerd, alleen is dit echt!

I visited the vet. This is the first time that that I had a prophetic daydream that I'd rather not have.

Melisma is completely fine, but it seems there's someone that may have it out for me, someone that she noticed and I didn't. I'm not even sure who it is, but... it cannot be someone good.

Vet: "...yeah sure, go ahead! I mean, it'd be in the medical record as well, but it's fine if you want to record this."

Camille: "Ah, stellar. So, uh, go ahead then."

Vet: "'Course. So- resulting from the checkup, your Mismagius seems fully and completely healthy. No physical complications - she's as fit as a Mismagius normally would be."

Camille: "Mhm."

Vet: "Mentally... Well, as you said, she seems paranoid, and you said she wasn't before, right?

Camille: "That is indeed what I said."

Vet: "Right. While I'm no expert on Mismagius in particular, some Pokémon get a little paranoid when they're not used to a new environment. Did you move recently, perhaps?"

Camille: "Always on the move. We're... semi-nomadic, actually."

Vet: "Hm. Say, you have a slight Kalosian accent, when did you move to Unova? It could be that she's new to the region."

Camille: "Years ago. I am quite sure she has gotten used to Unova, especially Castelia. She wasn't fazed when Team Winter froze the region, for one."

Vet: "Hm, then I can rule that out... Is there a new Pokémon on your team, perhaps?"

Camille: "The last one I caught was Géode, my Sableye. That was years back. If anything, the two have a friendly rivalry together."

Vet: "Did your Sableye... do anything?"

Camille: "I wouldn't say so. In fact, it's more like Melisma's coming to Géode for comfort sometimes..."

Vet: "Hm. This is... concerning, to say the least..."

Camille: "What is?"

Vet: "Oh, uh- this situation in general. Hm... has she been scared of anything before? Did anything happen recently that could've scared her?"

Camille: "The only times she ever seemed scared is when my life's in danger.'

Vet: "...Is it?"

Camille: "Not that I know of..."

Vet: "Well... I'd hate to imply things, but if the only time she ever seems scared is when your life is in actual danger... you may want to make sure that you're safe-"

[A loud cry could be heard - "MI-MIIIIII!" It's likely Melisma's. The sound of rustling clothes could also be heard.]

Camille: "Melisma, what's wrong?--"

Vet: "Uh... I... I think I saw... someone in the window."

Camille: "You-... you saw someone?"

Vet: "...Your Mismagius didn't have a prior trainer, did she?"

[Silence, though with the implication that Camille shook her head.]

Vet: "Did you... cross anyone you maybe shouldn't have? Neo Plasma? Rocket?"

Camille: "I... Not those two at least, but I can think of a few people..."

Vet: "Oh. Okay. Okay, so, this is a difficult situation then."

[A few seconds of silence pass, before the Vet speaks up again.]

Vet: "Well, problem solved..? Heheh... Do you need me to call you a cab?"

Camille: "...I can call my girlfriend. She has a Golurk with Fly."

Vet: "Well... thanks for coming at least. I hope you're safe.
