Ominis Gaunt

~ •●• ~
Here are some Ominis Gaunt GIFs that I created from two YouTube videos from @LegendsForeverStudios and @ weepywillow.
Honestly, I feel like the creators of the game managed to reflect in his eyes the sorrow and fears that persecute him. I find it a shame that his story wasn't developed more than that, he could have been even more interesting.
You can also find some GIFs of Hogwarts Legacy in my fanfiction We had it all, available on Wattpad in English and in French (Nous avions tout).

I find Merope Gaunt an extremely interesting character. First of all, she is one of the last living heirs of Salazar Slytherin, she lives as an abused person and in extreme poverty. She manages to understand love, but in an extremely distorted, sick and possessive form and this transforms her into an executioner. She even falls in love with a muggle and, in fact, she betrays her family and her origins, even going so far as to sell her family heirloom. She is, in my opinion, one of the most controversial characters in the entire saga and it's a real crime that they cut her out of the films. What can I say, I hope in this case too that the series can resolve it by showing her story.

Gaunt Family Headcanons
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mr. and Mrs. Gaunt were cousins. Due to the dwindling Gaunt line, they consolidated the family tree by marrying, leaving Noctua as their only eligible bride. Mr. Gaunt, her older brother, wanted to marry her off to a great pureblood house.
All of the major houses within the Sacred 28 submitted sons to court Noctua, but she turned down each offer. Noctua decided to become a governess, which deeply insulted all of the families (an offense not forgotten by the time the Gaunt children started seeking out their own matches).
The Gaunts have five children: Marvolo, Cedrella, Dorcas, Apolline, and Ominis. Mr. Gaunt urged his wife to continue having children until he had both an heir and a spare to the Gaunt legacy. Marvolo was fifteen by the time Ominis was born.
Desperate after having three girls, Mrs. Gaunt turned to dark magic to ensure her next baby was a boy. She was relieved when the midwife showed her the beautiful blond baby boy, and was not surprised to find out he was blind (there is always an exchange when dealing with dark magic).
Marvolo and Cedrella never cared for Ominis; they were already at Hogwarts by the time he was born. Ominis got along quite well with his other sisters, Dorcas and Apolline, until they started playing with the unforgivable curses for fun.
Mr. Gaunt picked up a gambling habit after Ominis was born. The other pureblood families, eager to put the Gaunts in their place after Noctua's denial of their sons, start colluding with one another to swindle their fortune. Only the Blacks remained loyal to the Gaunts.
Noctua disappeared when Ominis was ten. It was quickly spread within the pureblood social circle that she had run off with a muggleborn lover; despite vehemently denying the accusations, Mr. Gaunt had no proof to back it up.
Noctua knew her mission to find the scriptorium would be dangerous, and made arrangements for her belongings just in case. She left her precious Slytherin locket to Ominis, her favorite nephew. Mrs. Gaunt read this in her will and decided to pocket the heirloom, believing it was better suited for one of the older children.
Due to their relationship with Headmaster Black, all of the older Gaunt children were granted permission to bring snake companions with them to Hogwarts. Ominis was the only one to not have a pet snake.
Mr. Gaunt faced immense pressure to get his daughters out of the house once they graduated from Hogwarts. Mrs. Gaunt just thought he was being picky with their matches, but truthfully he and Marvolo had to scrounge up galleons for their dowries.
A/N: I love thinking about the downfall of the Gaunt family and how they can go from the height of society to destitute by the time voldy is born. Also the idea of Noctua being an independent lady who refused to get married

So the deeper I go into the Gaunt family lore, the more I realize that it's not as straight forward as the HP canon make it seem. Like, what happened to Rionach Gaunt who's the mother of Isolt Sayre (the founder of Ilvermorny), and does that mean they're from the "main branch" of the Gaunt family? Cause it seems like there are at least two branches of this house, and I'm starting to think that maybe Ominis belongs to the secondary branch. 🤔💭 It seems like Ominis might belong to the Irish branch of the House of Gaunt, cause Marvolo and the rest seem to be English but I don't know yet.
The only "clue" I have is that when you go to Hogsmeade, there will be townspeople who talk about how a certain "Gormlaith Gaunt would skin her own mother..." and how cruel of a witch she was. So, if this narrative is present in this universe, it kind of makes sense that Ominis might belong to the Irish sect of the Gaunts.
Yes, this is open for discussion. I may also make another post for this one if I get enough info and evidence.

Prompt 13 - Glare
@jegulus-microfic March 13 Word count 599
Previous part First part
They stood outside the ruins of the small. Regulus wasn’t sure how to describe it. Shack? The wood was rotted, the roof was barely there, and the door was gone completely, leaving the doorway open and gaping.
They’d decided Evan, Barty, Lily, and Pandora would stay behind. Having eight people apparate to the same broken-down dwelling would look suspicious if anyone saw them. Regulus had wanted to go on his own, but Remus needed to come with him, and where Remus went, Sirius followed, and then James had demanded he be allowed to come as well. So he and Sirius stayed under the invisibility cloak.
“Right,” Regulus spoke to his companions. “I believe we are looking for a ring. The Gaunt family apparently prized this thing and refused to sell it even when the family fell into ruin. He and Remus cast a few revealing charms, checking that they wouldn’t be cursed if they crossed the threshold. They couldn’t find anything, so they tentatively stepped inside. Nothing happened.
It took them less than fifteen minutes to locate the ring. It was hidden beneath the floorboards in the largest room. They’d only found it when James’s foot had stood on it just right that it creaked. Regulus and Remus had used their charms again and couldn’t find anything guarding it. He pulled the floorboard up and plucked the gold box from the gap underneath.
He ran his hand over the cool, smooth lid. It was emblazoned with an emblem that he’d only recently been able to identify as the Gaunt family seal. He waved his wand over it, and the lid popped open. Nestled in an emerald silk scarf was a small black ring. It gleamed in the dim light, making Regulus shudder as he looked at it. He couldn’t believe it they’d found another Horcrux.
Remus took it from him to look at and passed it to James and then Sirius. Regulus stood. “Right, let’s get it back to Evan’s, and we can—SIRIUS DON’T PUT IT ON!!!!” Sirius stopped dead in his tracks. He’d taken the ring from its box and was halfway to slipping it onto his finger. Regulus took the ring from his brother, sticking him with a glare before he placed the ring in his hidden pocket where it would be safe.
He removed one of his rings and transfigured it to look like the Gaunt ring. He replaced it in the box and carefully returned it under the floorboard. They left the home of the once proud Gaunt family and apparated back to Rosier House.
This time, Barty was happier to see them. He’d been pacing, his hair stuck up where he’d nervously run his hands through it.
“Oh, thank you, Merlin, you’re alright.” He rushed Regulus and showed an uncharacteristic amount of worry for his friend. Even more surprising was when he dropped Regulus and wrapped his arms around Remus. Remus, taken aback, lamely patted him on the head.
‘There, there, Crouch. We’re fine. We literally just walked in there and took it. There wasn’t even a repelling charm.” Barty leaned back so he could look at Remus’s face.
“You’re kidding, right? That’s so anti-climatic. Salazar Ball’s, Voldy is an arrogant prat. Imagine being so up yourself you don’t think anyone’s going to figure out who you’re real family is.”
“Quite. We still need to figure out where the rest of them are. I’m still trying to track down where Riddle went after he left Hogwarts.” Regulus addressed the room. Evan pulled out a roll of parchment.
“Actually, we’ve been doing some digging.”

someone commented something on one of my Hogwarts Legacy videos, and now that's canon to me
you know how we always talk about how Ominis DIDN'T die before 1926? about how he actually vanished from the world, adopted a different last name, and never had any contact with his family again, and that's why no one knew there was still a Gaunt alive when Voldemort was born?
well, this person commented on my video, "well, for me, before doing that, Ominis actually stole the entire family fortune, because 50 years is a really short time to go from 'a wealthy and influential family' to 'three people practically starving living in a hovel'"
IMAGINE
Ominis devising a plan to steal his family's entire fortune before disappearing (you know Ominis could totally be that bitch) (Sebastian and MC are going to help, of course)
now I want to write a fanfiction about it, heist-style

Let's chat about this, people:
Re-reading the Half Blood Prince i had some thoughts about Ominis and the Gaunt Family. Marvolo says that him and his children are the last direct descendents of Salazar Slytherin, which would mean Ominis would already be deceased at this point in 1925. Which is pretty young for a wizard right?
So I thought about this and his relationship to his family and i could see him severing ties with them, which would definitely end with him being shunned by the Gaunt family, maybe even seen as blood traitor.
Dumbledore said, that Marvolo Gaunt stopped acknowledging Meropes existence, after she married a muggle/went against the family ideals. I suppose same could be said of Ominis.
(Another example is Sirius and Andromeda Black, who were burned off the family tree - this definitely is a common practice in pure blood fanatic families)
So he might not even have been dead at this point, the Gaunts just didn't see him as part of the family anymore, let alone worthy of the name Gaunt.
What are you guys thoughts on this? I just really don't want him to have died alone and forgotten 😂

Ominis Gaunt
The Gaunt family is a pure-blood family, part of the sacred 28 and they are the direct descendants of Salazar Slytherin. It is said that every Gaunt family member has the ability to speak Parseltongue just like Salazar.
Ominis Gaunt was a rare exception in the Gaunt family as he felt ashamed by his legacy and his family's dark traditions, just like his aunt Noctua Gaunt. Ominis did not share his family's views on blood purity and despised the dark arts even though his family forced him to cast Crucio on innocent muggles. Well that probably cemented Ominis' dislike towards his family.
Ominis' older brother Marvolo Gaunt had two children, Merope Gaunt and Morfin Gaunt. We all know that Merope Gaunt was the mother of Voldemort which makes Ominis Gaunt Voldemort's great-uncle. It's interesting to see how two of the Gaunt family have made such radically different decisions in life.
Now it is known that the last living Gaunts by the summer of 1925 were Marvolo and his two children. This means that Ominis must have passed away at a relative young age, somewhere between the age of 17-50. It is unknown how Ominis died or when he died exactly, but he left no children behind.

reader being voldemort's loving mother and being a great grandmother to the twins (thomas and mattheo)
A version that your son Tom wasn't born with the depreciation effect is based on fiction. If you want, I can write your request according to Voldemort born with depreciation effect. I hope you will like it.
~ From the moment you learned that Tom was conceived in your womb, you always loved him.
~ The moment you found out you were pregnant, you moved to a new place to start a new life for yourself and your son.
~ Throughout your pregnancy, you were talking, singing and telling stories to your baby.
~ Even though your birth was tiring, you shed tears of happiness when you held your son in your arms.
~ You did your best to make sure your son had the best childhood.
~ When your son was bullied at school about his blood status, you were his only source of support.
~ Tom has sworn to become King of the wizarding world and to make sure everyone treats you with the respect you deserve.
~ You were very happy at the birth of your twin grandsons.
~ You fled, taking your grandchildren with you, after your son went missing in an attempt to exterminate the Potters.
~ You have not neglected to be the best grandmother to your grandchildren.
~ Your grandchildren had the best childhood life because of you.
~ Your grandchildren are doing their best to make you proud.
~ When your son returns, you hug him in tears.
~ You are trying to make your son a good father to your grandchildren.

Ominis Gaunt really is an untapped angst fic goldmine...
We all know the “Ominis had to be dead by his 50s” fact, courtesy of Gaunt family lore (which in and of itself is an angst riddled consideration), but no one talks about how sad even the alternative to that is.
“Ominis could have changed his last name, thus removing him from the family prior to their ‘extinction’” is just about the only argument that keeps Ominis’ potential early demise from being an absolute certainty, but has anyone stopped to consider how sad even THAT is?
Imagine you grow up in an absurdly heinous family, escape after years of torture, abuse, and attempted brainwashing, and then all you can do is “watch” from a distance as your entire family falls apart.
And sure, we all know that Ominis wasn’t a fan of his family members, but when we talk about them we aren’t thinking about the additional two who would have done nothing wrong by the time he likely would have left the family - Morfin and Merope.
Because assuming that Marvolo was Ominis’ brother, that would have made Ominis an uncle to them around 25/26 and 32/33 years old.
And sure, you could absolutely argue that he may have never even learned his niece and nephew existed in a world where he left his family entirely at whatever age, but I struggle to believe he wouldn’t have at least learned of them eventually (if not at their birth) and felt the need to check in from afar from time to time.
I mean, think about it, Ominis mentioned having looked up to his aunt Noctua to the extent that she was his favorite, and he likely had almost no one else who shared (and maybe even helped him to develop) his personal views on blood purity. Knowing that, do we really think he’d be able to separate himself entirely from the youngest members of the Gaunt family when, in his own experience, it was a family member in the very same position as he who made him feel understood for the first time in his life?
All that I’m saying is, if Ominis didn’t die, he inevitably had to learn of his family’s suffering from afar, and considering how purely innocent even individuals like Morfin and Merope were at birth, I can’t imagine it was easy to learn of what was becoming/ultimately became of them while he could do nothing but wish things to be different.
And yes, I will be expanding upon this concept EXTENSIVELY in the Ominis x Reader series I have planned, so this is FAR from the end of Gaunt family lore angst.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk 😌.
