We’re baaaack!!! We missed you all so much! Thank you so much for being patient with us while we took most of January off. Since we were gone for a while, we have so much to fill you in on, so the intro for this one is a little long! We tried our best to stay on topic, but can you blame us for being so giddy and excited to be recording again? We jumped right back in with a pretty scary (but also pretty cheesy, not gonna lie) found-footage film: Grave Encounters (2011)! SUMMARY: For their ghost hunting reality show, a production crew locks themselves inside an abandoned mental hospital that's supposedly haunted - and it might prove to be all too true.
The mod has not seen this movie, and really wants to, but has read some criticism that there are moments where either it feels like there is no justification for why the characters are filming or there are shots that break the immersion of the found footage aspect. The mod looks forward to reading your opinions on it because those are two of the mod's biggest pet peeves when it comes to found footage movies.

Rating: 7/10
This one was a rewatch for me. I remember watching it back in my community college days and having a grand old time.
It was the same this time around! It really captures the Ghost Hunter craze of the 2000's/early 2010's. There's an irreverence to it and it's full of lots of little details.
I love a good haunted asylum, and this movie gives you a haunted asylum that hates you back! The Zack Baggins style main is just as ridiculous as the real thing. The ghost imagery doesn't fully come in until later and when it does it's an absolute delight.
It is by no means a good movie. But if you like ghost hunter shows the same way I did as a kid, you'll love this one.

Ein kanadischer Found Footage Supernatural Horrorfilm: Ein Kamerateam, das an einer Fernsehsendung über das Paranormale arbeitet, sieht sein nächstes Ziel in einer verlassenen und abgelegenen Irrenanstalt, von der besagt wird, dass die damaligen Patienten von den behandelnden Ärzten erbarmungslos gequält worden sind - und dass das Gebäude nun heimgesucht wird.
Über Nacht verbarrikadieren sich die Fernsehdarsteller und bringen in jeglichen Räumen der Anstalt Kameras an, die bereit dafür sind, Geisteraufnahmen zu machen.
Das Team muss auf eine grausame Art und Weise erfahren, dass die vielen Gerüchte über blutrünstige Geister stimmen.

the bestie and i got super high last night and i showed her grave encounters (2011) AND grave encounters 2 (2012) and im sorry to the haters who gave the films a 2.9 and 2.3 respectively on letterboxed but the grave encounters cinematic universe with lance preston/sean rogerson my best friend lance preston/sean rogerson was on some Way Ahead of it's Time jordan peele's nope (2022) deconstructionist what if you wanted to escape your fate but the narrative said NO turning the all seeing Eye of the Camera back on the audience and making them complicit in the suffering and dooming genius meta level shit. to me

Grave Encounters (2011)
Widely regarded as one of the best paranormal found footage films, and one that actually does live up to the hype. The characters are believable—and tolerable—the location is proper creepy and most of the film maintains a very spooky atmosphere while also providing a healthy does of what would later come to be known as liminal horror.
However, like a lot of other films in this particular niche, they do at times push what they show to a level that can negatively impact the feeling of believability that the rest of the movie works to provide... especially with the cheaply-manipulated jump scare faces on the ghosts.
