The city of Hamtramck in Michigan has decided to rename one its streets to “Palestine Avenue”.
During the booming years of Detroit’s automobile industry, Hamtramck was majority Polish.
Today, it’s the only majority-Muslim city in the U.S.

HAMTRAMCK, Mich (FOX 2) - An antisemitic Facebook post was made on a public page called Hamtramck Square Monday night.
"Was the holocaust God's advance punishment of the ‘Chosen People’ for the savagery they're committing today against the innocent Palestinians children and civilians? A heinous act proving that they're as savage and cruel as the Nazis themselves, or even worse," posted Nasr Hussain, a businessman running for Hamtramck City Council.
The post is yet to be removed.

🚨 METRO DETROIT: RALLY & MARCH FOR RAFAH & YEMEN 🚨
🗓️ Sunday, Feb 18th ⏱️ 1PM EST 📍 Veterans Park (8648 Joseph Campau Ave. Hamtramck, MI 48212)
Sunday night, Israeli military’s genocidal assault targeted Rafah, the city that holds more than 1.4 million Palestinians, the majority of whom were displaced from elsewhere in Gaza. Over 70 martyrs and over 230 injured have already been reported in the US-funded Israeli strikes targeting homes and mosques where many were sheltering.
There is no safe place in Gaza. This recent assault comes after more than 120 days of Israeli assault on Gaza resulting in the murder of over 30,000 Palestinians and the displacement, injury, and famine of hundreds of thousands more. Meanwhile, Yemen, who stands unwaveringly with Palestine, was hit with a US-led military assault and sanctions aimed at punishing the impoverished population into submission.
Despite it all, Yemen and Gaza stand strong. We call on our community to take the streets to support them against the Zionist and US-funded violence. We must mobilize to demand an end to this genocidal assault from Gaza to Yemen.
HANDS OFF RAFAH NOW! HANDS OFF YEMEN NOW!

The Way Things Were by DNO_Dennis Via Flickr: A quick visit to Milwaukee Junction in August of 1980 caught this DT&I "foreigner" amongst the usual GTW power. Little did we know the GTW had purchased the DT&I, and sights like this were going to become more and more common.

In Aug. 2016, Choudhury shared a post claiming, "Jews are much safer under Muslims then (sic) Zionism." More recently, he deplored "massacres, genocide and innocent children being killed by Israel every day."
For his part, city council member Mohammed Hassan attended a "March for Jerusalem" rally and posted anti-Israel slogans during the May 2021 conflict in Gaza.
One deeply offensive image shared on May 16, 2021 depicts a monkey sporting Jewish sidecurls and wearing a cap with the Star of David next to text that reads: "Israel the real terrorist!!!"
One deeply offensive image shared on May 16, 2021 depicts a monkey sporting Jewish sidecurls and wearing a cap with the Star of David next to text that reads: "Israel the real terrorist!!!"
In another post, Hassan criticized Senate Democrats from Michigan who opposed boycotts against Israel. "How much you guys get from Israel?" he asked, echoing a classic antisemitic trope about Jewish control over the U.S. Congress.
City council member Mohamed Alsomiri recently posted a speech by Louis Farrakhan, the rabidly antisemitic leader of the Nation of Islam. Among dozens of hateful rants, Farrakhan has referred to Jews as "Satanic" and "termites," while blaming "pedophilia and sexual perversion" on "Talmudic principles and Jewish influence." He has promoted blood libels and promised that Israel will be "cleansed with blood."
Support for Farrakhan has derailed the careers of celebrity activists. Public figures who echo antisemitic tropes about money and world domination have faced social and professional ostracization. This is not the case in Hamtramck, where a culture of antisemitism flourishes at the top of municipal government.
Collectively, Hamtramck city council members' social media posts extend far beyond healthy criticism of a foreign government. From repeating tropes about Jewish power to making bombastic and blatantly false accusations of genocide and apartheid to depicting Jews as monkeys and infidels, the city's elected leaders have embraced the worst forms of anti-Jewish bigotry.

So a city in Michigan just banned all LGBTQ+ flags on the grounds of "neutrality" and not providing provide “special treatment to any group”. But at the end of the day its just blatant homophobia. It does not matter their background or religious beliefs, they banned it because they personally are offended and appalled by queer folk. The people of Hamtramck are great people and deserve much better than this.
