If the implication in the old journal entry is accurate, and Halsin ended up having to be the one to destroy the shade of his former First Druid that he trained/was taught under, do you think he had time to mourn him? Do you think he fell to his knees in the rubble, feeling the shadows press heavy around him, catatonic, as the weight of realization finally started to hit him? Were any of them reflected back at him when he peered into the dull, sparking energy left behind? Did he let himself cry? Scream? Did he carefully stone his expression and nod tightly in approval, like neatly tying a package, since what he eliminated wasn't him - what was left was so twisted beyond recognition, such a dark reflection of the man he had come to see as second family, that it was better destroyed?
Or did he have to run? Did he shove his grief deep down in the place where it always goes to make room for his survival instinct to bring him into the sun again? Did he have to unceremoniously abandon what was left of him because there was still a chance there may be others - a hope made in vain that the ones they had to leave behind were still out there - praying as he went that he had found peace, that Silvanus recognized his face, before the curse took what was left?

[ID: Two panels from Dungeon Meshi. The first scows Senshi clutching his face as tears start to spill out of his eyes, saying, "I've always... always wanted to have this soup one more time." He's not wearing his helmet in this panel, so his face is unusually visible, detailed and vulnerable. The second panel shows himself as a youngster, surrounded by his old mining team, all smiling at each other, one of them rubbing Senshi's head. Modern-day Senshi continues, "Thank you. All of you. Thank you." End ID.]
Holy shit. I anticipated some tragic backstory from the "I must feed the young ones" panels, but what I'd guessed was that Senshi might have become so devoted to cooking and eating literally whatever because he'd previously survived a famine and had seen children starve to death. I did not expect him to have been the child who was the sole survivor of a doomed travel party, one of whom was determined to feed Senshi first because he was the youngest, and that Senshi has lived with the fear of having inadvertently committed cannibalism by eating stew that he'd never quite known the contents of. I'm happy for him that Laios deduced and confirmed for him that it was griffin meat, that he was able to taste the meal that saved his life once more and remember the friends he lost. Seriously, I'm crying, and also earnestly relieved that while his backstory is pretty dark, it's not the type of fucked up I'd been preparing myself mentally for.

miguel watched an entire universe be destroyed, with the only seemingly plausible explanation being that this happened due to his own actions. how many people do you think died?
he has very real and legitimate reasons to believe that screwing around with a given universe's "canon" will doom everyone there. and with that many lives on the line, would you want to push the limits? see how much canon-breaking you can get away with before the universe reaches its limit? would you be comfortable with letting people go "eh, screw the canon" if you genuinely believed that enough of that mentality would get billions of people killed, because you had in fact actually witnessed this exact scenario before (or what appeared to be this exact scenario)?
so anyway yeah no i do not in fact want miguel to survive btsv so he can "face judgement," "get his ass beat," be shunned by the spider-society, etc.

i hate when people ask me stupid questions 😭 use your common sense bro, PLEASE.
“hey, are you using that?” as i’m using that. “are you busy?” after i’ve texted them that i am, indeed, busy. “is this yours?” as i’m holding onto it. “are you done eating?” as i’m clearly not done eating because i’m still chewing, spoon in hand, and rice on the plate.

[attaches my izzy hands apologist pin to my vest] kind of fucked up that some find izzy Irredeemable when we have seen him do next to nothing violent or even particularly mean, whereas we know ed made fang shoot his dog and then shrugged at him while he cried about it and also, apparently, regularly forces people into autocannibalism for the smallest of transgressions. which is not hate towards ed! he is a pirate and this is typical pirate behavior, and if ed wasn't prone to violent behavior then that would make his path towards self acceptance and kindness weigh less than it does. but it does seem as if izzy has only ever been the enforcer of blackbeard-slash-ed's Rules and Regulations, and while ed seems happy to abandon all that and turn a new leaf because he fell in love, izzy is left with the harrowing memories of what he has done For Blackbeard, in blackbeard's name, and wondering what the fuck happened.

remembering that Caleb originally designed the Vault of Amber to carry corpses--specifically, he envisioned killing Astrid and Wulf, using their remains as stand-ins for his parents' dead bodies, and that's...a lot. But--
It was supposed to be for carrying corpses. For making them conveniently disappear. When the Nein talk about bringing Molly back to the Blooming Grove to give him a proper burial, Caleb starts ritually casting Vault of Amber. "To take him with us," he says. Because that's exactly what this spell is built for, to carry bodies. And while Molly's lying there lifeless, Caleb is right beside him, still concentrating on his spell.
I don't know. Something about how he built this portable coffin to carry his former lovers who betrayed him. Something about how he was going to keep Molly in there. Caleb still wanting to hold onto his Circus Man in some way. His magic wasn't enough to save him, but. For just a moment, he still wants to keep him close.
And then, before the spell can take hold, when he's still looking down at Mollymauk and truly believes him to be gone--miraculously, his eyes open--

[ID: Two panels from Trigun Maximum. The first just shows an empty tiled floor under Knives saying, "When they crush an ant, they don't even notice. This is the same thing." In the second panel, Knives is looking down with a sad frown as he says, "...If only Tesla... had gained this kind of power..." End ID.]
While I understand the sentiment of wishing that Tessla had been able to defend herself from what was done to her, I feel... I dunno, pretty gross about the way Knives puts what he's doing on her. He never met her or knew her, so he has no idea what she wanted. He doesn't know if she hated the scientists who experimented on her, feared them, or felt the sad, damaged affection of an abused child who desperately longs to please their abusive carers and have their love. He doesn't know if she wanted them to die, to leave her alone, or to give her a hug. He has no idea how she'd feel about his ambitions to slaughter all humans, and he's out here using her corpse as justification for his violence. She "mastered language" but we have no records of what she said; she never gets to speak for herself. But boy howdy does Knives have plenty to say on behalf of this dead girl!

it’s about lemony processing his grief over jacques’s death even as he prepares it for public consumption. it’s about lemony describing his own brother’s death. it’s about lemony who has been telling this story through the baudelaire’s eyes having himself bleed into it as he describes the death of his brother. it’s about knowing lemony likely found out the nitty gritty of it through his research. it’s about lemony losing his brother. it’s about lemony losing control of the narrative for just a second.
