"Are you sure we're at the right address, Sir?"
His chauffeur's question barely makes its way to his consciousness, as Jongseong allows his gaze to nervously and curiously roam the parts of Seoul he's never been to before.
As a business man he's definitely seen most of his favorite and most important capital, yet it genuinely feels like stepping foot into a whole new city.
All of a sudden and for the first time in his life, Jongseong simply can't recognize the place he was born and raised in, the capital he's always loved and appreciated. All of a sudden and for the first time in his life he genuinely feels out of place.
"Yes, it's the apartment complex right here", is the only thing he manages to say before the car comes to a halt and he finds himself in the midsts of Seoul's other kind of night life.
Despite the time being quite late, there are children and teenagers out on the street, laughing and playing together, a group of old man comfortably seated in front of a random little restaurant as the old women are slowly starting to close their shops.
Jongseong doesn't know what he expected when he had spontaneously decided to join his driver to pick you up, especially since you had already told him about where your apartment is located, yet it absolutely didn't prepare him for the reality of it.
It's not like he's never been to the less wealthy parts of Seoul, but for some reason he can't help but doubt the safety of it.
The thought of his pretty girl having to take the bus at late times with all these possible dangers lingering around has his head spinning with worry.
There's absolutely no way he'll let you go home by yourself ever again after this.
With a harsh gulp, Jongseong gets out of the car, the boys' and young men's attention quickly shifting to him as he shoots his body guard a firm gaze to stop him from following the way he'd usually do it. Because for some reason, Jay feels like he doesn't need him in his back in this particular situation.
"Oh, damn", one of the boys yells as soon as his eyes meet Jongseong's, his face quickly giving away just how young he is, however his height as well as the proportions of his body making him seem like they're the same age, "seems like Y/N's finally getting over that stupid asshole!"
His words leave the young CEO speechless.
Why does he know you? And why the fuck is he all up in your business to the point where he actually knows things about your personal life in such great detail?
Jongseong can't help but wonder if you've managed to create bonds to these young men, and as he thinks about the possibility of it, he knows it's nothing too unrealistic, as you usually tend to treat every single human being the exact same way, no matter who they are or where they come from.
"I like him the most so far", another boy yells, a little older than the other ones yet still young enough to be in school, "he actually looks like he'll treat her well."
For a short moment, Jay tries his best to understand whether or not this is actually happening because despite how overwhelmed he is, he feels way more comfortable than he would have ever expected to.
"Y/N and I are just โ€“ friends", Jay suddenly says, a soft smile on his lips and the way all boys are quick to reciprocate the sweet gesture melts his heart on the spot, "I'm here to pick her up."
"Nah, you guys aren't friends", the first boy chuckles, "you like her more than that, am I right?"
This time he simply can't hold back a little chuckle in response to the boy's playful words and yet all he does is shrug his comment off.
"What's your name? Might as well let us know since you'll obviously come around a lot more from now on."
For a moment, Jongseong hesitates. Not because he doesn't trust the boys but rather because for the first time in his life, he doesn't want people to know what reputation his name comes with.
"Jay", is what he decides on, "I'll make sure to get to know you all as well next time, but for now I gotta pick her up. The host of tonight's dinner we're invited to is incredibly stingy when it comes to being on time."
The boys nod, some of them shoot Jongseong another row of smiles whereas the older ones seem suspicious and mischievous. And as Jay comes to stand in front of the apartment building's front door, he carefully looks for your name on one of the tags before ringing your bell and silently praying that you won't speak to him through the speaker bur rather just buzz him in instead.
To his luck you're way too stressed and in a rush to actually care about who you're letting into the apartment complex. After almost two three of living here, you've grown used to the random ringings on your doorbell because one of the kids has forgotten their keys again or a random neighbor asking you for leftovers, especially towards the end of the month when the money situation gets a little critical for everyone.
Ever since you've started working for The Park Company, you've been earning way more than most people in your complex and since you have nobody but yourself to take care of, you love giving the rest to the people in your community.
To some people it might be too much but these exact people were the ones who took great care of you throughout the few times you spent jobless and on the actual edge of poverty, barely making ends meet.
It's a great privilege and honor to finally give back to them and there's nobody in this neighborhood you're not genuinely grateful for.
It takes Jay a little longer than five minutes to find his way to your door, the middle aged lady at the end of the hallway quickly letting out an amused laugh upon seeing the tall CEO desperately looking for the right way to go before finally helping him.
And as soon as he lifts his hand to knock on your door, he feels his heartbeat picking up its pace in no time, thrumming in his throat as the blood rushes in his ears and easily blends out every single other noise.
You can't help but be a little surprised as soon as you realise that there's actually someone on the other side of your door since you weren't really expecting anyone and are pretty sure Mr. Park's driver didn't feel the need to come all the way up to your apartment.
With only one boot on your feet and your lips half way lined, you swing the door open and find yourself standing in front of none other than your boss.
The sight of Park Jongseong in your complex hallway feels surreal, like it's nothing but a mentally created image and the longer you stare at him, the more intimated you feel. This block, this part of the city, your life โ€“ none of these things are made for people who were fed with silver spoons the second they came to this world and even if you don't feel ashamed or embarrassed, you definitely feel a little shy and yet defensive about it.
If it wasn't for the initial shock, you would have easily missed the way his eyes widen just the tiniest bit and for a moment you're not sure if he actually just gasped for air, but with him you usually tend to read too much into his behavior, so without giving it another thought you take a deep breath.
"I'm so sorry for making you wait, Sir", you say and start fumbling with the little belt of your rather small black dress, too nervous to make eye contact as you feel his dark eyes roaming your body almsot shamelessly.
"I didn't know you would be the one to pick me up."
"Don't worry about it", Jongseong says and clears his throat, every single drop of blood finding its way into his cock, "I wanted to make it a surprise."
His words leave you flabbergasted.
And from the sudden nervousness grazing his features you're pretty sure you haven't done a good job at hiding your reaction.
Jongseong doesn't want to make you uncomfortable, yet he simply has no idea what to say.
You look like you came straight out of his biggest fantasies, your whole demeanor is what he's been dreaming about for the past few weeks and besides that one night at Heeseung's new club he's never been in your presence outside of work.
For some reason he kind of expected this to be a little easier, but at the end of the day all of his worries and doubts have become reality.
"Call me Jay, please", he suddenly blurts and looks at you with his pretty eyes roaming your face, "I think we're past the point of you constantly addressing me as 'Sir' and by my last name."
"But...you're my boss", you whisper and start playing with your favorite necklace, but still too shy to look him kn the eyes, "I don't want to be unprofessional or inappropriate."
"Y/N, Iโ€“", but Jongseong doesn't get the opportunity to finish his sentence as his phone starts ringing and the custom ringtone lets him know exactly who it is.
"It's Hoonie", he sighs and pulls the device out of his pocket, not yet picking up the call, "I'll be here waiting for you to get ready. No need to rush yourself."
All you do is nod before turning around and quickly looking for your second shoe as well as finishing the last touch ups on your make up.
For a single second you actually consider inviting him inside but you're not ready for your boss to see your tiny little apartment. This time it is a little bit of shema which kind of hoods you back because compared to his big penthouse, your place is as big as his home office.
Once you've finally finished getting yourself ready and actually presentable, you try your best not to stare at your boss who's currently talking to his best friend, leaning against the wall and looking absolutely out of place and yet like he actually fits into the whole picture perfectly.
With a soft sigh you throw away all of those little thoughts and glimpses of hope before locking your door and waiting for Jongseong to join you.
You're too nervous, too anxious and excited to actually hear what he's saying to Hoonie on the phone and as soon as he pulls it away from his ear, you find yourself gasping for air at the mesmerizing sight of Park Jongseong.
He's not wearing his usual three piece but the casual version of his daily outfit. Few of the buttons on the top of his white dress shirt unbuttoned, revealing just the right amount of chest as the blazer hugs his strong biceps in just the right places. You don't let your eyes find their way to his legs because you know the sight of his thick thighs in those black slacks are going to drive you insane. Riding and using them for your own pleasure being one of your personal favorite fantasies.
Neither one of you says a single word as you make your way to the car, the cold November air hitting you a lot harder than expected and now you're absolutely regretting your choice of jacket.
You quickly check up on your boys, who have obviously been waiting for you two to come downstairs, before they all shoot Jay a knowing look and an appreciative nod of acknowledgment, which you would have missed if you hadn't been attentively watching your boss's reaction to the kids of your block.
With a soft smile, Jay opens the door to his car, making sure you're comfortably seated before making his way to the other side.
You're quick to start a conversation with his bodyguard, since the two of you have been spending just as much time with each as you have with Jay himself and for some reason he can't help but feel a sense of relief hit him.
You're here with him. You're in his car and he finally gets to take the tiniest bit of care of you, something he's been daydreaming about for so long.
You can feel his eyes burning through your skin and you can't even deny how much you're enjoying it. Knowing he actually seems to like what he sees has the butterflies in your tummy go absolutely crazy, despite your many attempts to kill them off completely. There's just something about Park Jongseong which seems to turn the easiest things into the biggest challenges.
"Y/N, I've thought a little about the rules I've set up for you in my office and have decided to abandon most of them", Jongseong suddenly says and when you turn your head to meet his strong gaze, you're surprised to see that he genuinely seems nervous.
"Oh?" You look at him with raised eyebrows, your hands neatly folded in your lap and all of a sudden you feel a lot less anxious than just a few seconds ago.
There's just something about him, which never fails to esse your mind, yet you still struggle to put a name on it.
"I've talked to Yeonie and the boys about this quite a lot and have realised that most of these rules were rather ridiculous. You can wear whatever you want and personalise your desk however you see fit. Please also don't hesitate to call or text me whenever you need something, anything, really. I want you to see how much I appreciate your hard work and you've never done anything to make me doubt your abilities, which is why those rules are kind of nonsense."
You can't help but be a little iverwhelmed because not only has he never been this casual and smiley around you before but the fact he actually gave these things another thought to the point where he felt the need to talk to his friends about makes you feel incredibly seen and appreciated.
"That is really, really thoughtful of you, Sir, thank you so much", you say calmly and are surprised just how well you're hiding the excitement currently rushing through your body.
"I'm also going to organise a company car for you because I don't feel comfortable having you take the bus every single day after working so hard", this one Jongseong was the most nervous about. His urge to lay the world to your feet has been absolutely overwhelming and after quite a little bit of arguing back and forth with Sunghoon, the lawyer had managed to put the company car idea into the CEO's head instead of his initial idea of letting you live rent free in one of Seoul's most expensive apartments.
"That is notโ€“", but Jongseong is determined and as soon as he cuts your words, you know there's no room for discussion left.
"It is necessary. Please, Y/N, let me do this for you. You work so hard snd you try your very best, at all times. Allow me to take care of you, it's the least I can do to show you my appreciation."
Fucking Park Jongseong.
Why the fuck did he have to pull the 'taking-care-of-you' card when literally every other explanation would have been the better choice? Because now that little voice you've been suppressing for the past few days, telling you that your boss isn't as neutral about you as he claims to be, has basically gotten a freeway ticket to freedom and you know it's going to be the only one up there for the next who knows how long.
"Thank you, Sir, I really appreciate this", you whisper and look away, whereas Jay refuses to look anywhere but you. He's been forcing himself to avoid you in any way possible for the past three months, he would never let an opportunity like this go to waste.
"Please, Y/N, let's try and be a little less formal with each other, yeah? I know I've been super keen on keeping everything strictly business but realising how much time we actually spend with each other has changed my mind", he says calmly, this time obviously a little hesitant. Jongseong doesn't want to let his intentions be known right away but rather ease you into it.
He rejected just a few weeks ago, no matter how badly he wants to dive head first into this and just tell you how crazy you've been driving him, he knows he has to slow it down for the sake of your mental and emotional well-being.
"I'll try my best to use your first name but I am afraid I won't get rid of the 'Sir' as easily", you chuckle nervously and carefully watch his reaction, only to regret your decision because the way he oh so obviously lets his eyes fall to your lips and back up has your blood boiling with arousal.
"That's okay", Jay replies calmly, "I like to hear that one from you anyway."
As if destiny heard the sirens in your head going off in response to his flirty little comment, the car comes to a stop and before you can actually think of a verbal answer, Jay's bodyguard has already opened your door.
The following hour is filled withw ay too many hugs and handshakes as Hoonie makes sure to introduce you to everyone you're not familiar with and by the time you finally get the opportunity to sit down, your friends are already all over you.
You don't tell them about your conversation with your boss, too shy and embarassed but also a little scared someone might hear and for some reason their lack of knowledge eases your nerves and soothes your anxiety in the best way possible.
It's a rather small gathering with about twenty people, most of whom you know, which makes the evening so much more bearable than you had initially expected.
The fact that your boss can barely keep his eyes off of you doesn't help much with your nervousness but you can't even deny how much you're liking it.
Every time one of his or your own boys comes a little too close to you, Jay physically tenses up to the point where you can actually watch the way his knuckles start turning white from his tight grip on the table when Jungwon pulls you into a silly little bear hug.
For a while, you completely forget about your actual relation to Park Jongseong. In this moment, you're just two adults with way too much chemistry and sexual tension and it feels like neither one of you is trying to suppress or run away from it.
You can't help but feel a little bit silly for gaining hope yet again but for some reason tonight feels different. Jay's never been this relaxed and casual around you, seeing him interact with his friends in such an environment is something you've honestly daydreamed about and to see it become reality seems surreal.
To your surprise, you find yourself seated next to none other than the man who's been messing with your head for the past three months and as the official dining part of Sunghoon's birthday dinner is about to start, Jongseong casually pulls your chair out for you to sit.
Nothing but a whispered thank you falls past your lips as you try your very best to stay calm but as soon as your gaze meets your group of friends, you know exactly how well that attempt went.
You don't let the girls' wide eyes and smiles as well as the boys shocked facial expressions get to you, the only person you allow yourself to indulge in is your boss, who's been more than just adamant about having a proper conversation with you.
It doesn't take long for his boys to chime in this time and even if he can hide his annoyance very well, he knows their actual intentions. With a soft sigh, Jay decides to pull himself out of your argument about which kind of stew is the best and why, his eyes never once averting from you as they take in your breathtaking beauty.
Maybe it's because he hasn't allowed himself to actually look at you in person or maybe it's because he wanted to maintain the mental and emotional distance to you, but regardless of the reasoning, Jongseong realises that up until tonight he's never fully comprehend just how beautiful you are.
Everything about your facial expressions, from the way you raise your eyebrows or scrunch your nose, as well as your brsathtaking smile and your incredibly adorable laughter simply blows him away.
He dowsn't even realise that Jake as well as Heeseung have gone back to their seats until you tilt your head to the side and meet his curious gaze.
"Hoonie's gonna hold a speech, Jay", you say softly and never once in his life has he loved the sound of someone saying his first name as much as this.
"Oh, right, sorry", he replies quickly and clears his throat, his cheeks filling with blood as embarassmenr overwhelms him, so to avoid an even worse moment, he simply turns around to face his best friend, who's just a single shot away from being absolutely drunk, yet makes sure to hold his yearly birthday dinner speech.
And as the waiters serve the appetizers and side dishes, you finally have a moment of absolute peace, only for the constant vibration of your phone to disturb you.
For some "unknown" reason you're so not in the mood to talk to Jiwoong. It's not line you're going to cancel the date over a simple conversation you probably misinterpreted yet again but talking to him on a night where your boss gives you his actual attention just doesn't feel right.
And on top of that you really don't feel like being on your phone all the time.
With a soft sigh you put your phone right between your own plate and Jay's, knowing he might notice the unnecessary high amount of messages you're receiving and all you can do is hope that he won't actually comment on it.
"Someone seems to really need your attention right now", Jongseong suddenly says and he has no idea why he actually decided to say anything because as soon as he got a single glimpse of the contact name a few minutes ago, his blood has been boiling with rage and jealousy.
It's not like he has the right to feel the way he does but the mere thought of you with that loser of a man makes him want to take you back to his place and claim you in the most intimate way possible.
You're his and he'll make sure to let every single fucker on this planet know about it as soon as possible.
However, until he's made sure he's won you over again, Jay has no choice but to accept your decisions.
And for now, Jong doesn't mind. He's known to be a patient man. He knows exactly when and how he has to handle these things, if he didn't he would have never made it this far.
He'll just make sure to have you forget about every single one of your little boy toys once you let him back into your heart.
"Well, I've got great company here and it'd be a shame if I wasted a night like this by staring at my phone the whole time, right?"
Your response it witty and slightly sassy, your smile actually cheeky and even if Jay knows it's the few glasses of champagne talking, he can't hold back the little chuckle regardlessly.
"Exactly", he says calmly and holds his whiskey glass up, waiting for you to react to his offer and as soon as you xlink your own against his, that heaviness on his chest seems to get just light enough for him to take a deep breath.
And as he watches you burst into loud laughter because of Sunghoon's random childhood story, he knows he has to have you. There's no way he's going to back away ever again until you're his and his only.

idk if this is something you would answer but how do you unlearn shame of being horny ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ
hi anon,
this is a complex question. unlearning shame of any kind can take a long time to sort out, and will be driven more by internal work you do to challenge and shift your own thinking than by anything else.
a good place to start may be by doing some reflection as to what you find shameful about being horny in the first place and working back from there to recognize sexuality and desire as morally neutral things.
for instance, I get a fair number of people asking if it's okay to think about real people that they know when they're horny, or masturbate to fantasies about those people. they feel a lot of shame about this, as if they're causing harm to these people by imagining them in sexual scenarios. but making up funny little scenarios in your head to nut to is a harmless act that only you will ever know about. it's not like whipping out your dick (gender neutral) and masturbating at strangers on public transit; what you do to get off in your private time only impacts you.
a problem would only arise if you decided to start treating your real, actual acquaintance, not the imaginary sexy version of them, differently, for instance by making untoward comments about their body, treating them as if they are obligated to be interested in spending time together or having sex with you, or, god forbid, telling them in detail about your sexual fantasies. now you're doing sexual harassment, which is inappropriate because of the hurt and discomfort is causes the recipient. being horny isn't the problem here, it's how you're treating another person.
people also feel a lot of shame around many other types of fantasies, especially if they involve dynamics that are off-limits or illegal in real life. often, the worry seems to be that being aroused by these imagined scenarios is akin to expressing support for these things to happen in real life.
listen: sexual fantasies about rape are some of the most commonly reported among cis women, and that's not because tons and tons of cis women secretly think that rape is a cool thing that should happen more. the people playing Baldur's Gate 3 and fucking Halsin while he's wildshaped into a bear aren't all chomping at the bit to commit a sex crime against a real animal. noticing that "teenage" characters on TV played by actors in their 20s and 30s are hot does not make anyone a pedophile. fiction is a safe realm to explore and enjoy things that we would never in a million years want to see happen in real life. I love Batman, but I can assure you I would not be a happy camper if a real-life billionaire started running around doing vigilantism in a fursuit while endangering a gaggle of teenage sidekicks.
and if you want to explore some of the stuff you're into in real life, awesome! great! there are ways to go about negotiating a lot of different kinks safely and responsibly (although probably not the bear thing, sorry about that). the world is full of people who want the experience of being stalked, beat up, kidnapped, and sexually assaulted - all mediated through pre-negotiated arrangements with people that they have chosen to enact these fantasies with them. so what is there to be ashamed of in that situation? sure, the situation you're engaging in might sound scary without proper context, but so do a lot of things. a stranger cutting open my skin, very likely causing bleeding, and leaving me with a mark that I'll have for the rest of my life sounds scary, and it definitely would be if it wasn't a situation that I agreed to! but that's also what getting a tattoo is, and that's an experience that I love so much that I pay for the pleasure. nothing to feel bad about there as long as you're playing safely!
listen: there's nothing wrong with being horny. the human sex drive is a completely natural one born from biological need that makes getting off feel good. there's no more sense in feeling shame about being horny than there is in feeling shame about being hungry or needing rest, although people do of course manage to feel bad about those as well. regardless of what causes it, when you feel the shame well up you have to push back on it and ask yourself who actually directly benefits from you feeling badly about yourself in that moment, and who is actually tangibly hurt by the actions you're shaming. and if the answer is "no one," move it along!

Today I will rant because I want to about that character and how he's treated by some
Lately the rapist comments about him and how he was selfish are getting multiplied which makes me both angry and sad.
When you have the author itself say that she saw the King and Queen as the real villains and that we can make a case about the Darkling's worst crimes then how do some people indirectly call him the worst thing that happened to Ravka and to Alina?
They only treat Aleksander as a villain, emphasizing his sexually creepy moments and selfish motivations and completely disregard the human side of him or his traumatic past.
The Darkling did not spend 500 (and possibly more) years of his life to protect his people and stop the wars for you to call him a selfish evil man. If you want to call someone selfish then look at Baghra that stays warm in her hearth and not giving a single fuck for Ravka. If you want to call someone selfish then take a look at the King and Queen who grow fat and rich while their people and starving and think that being orphaned is "marvelous". If you want to call someone selfish then look at Mal who wanted to leave Ravka and never look back (and in the meantime, it was his country that was in danger) or even Alina.
The Darkling was quite literally the only person that decided to take action for a persecuted group of people without wavering once.
You don't give a single glimpse at his tragic elements. You ignore them. But his isolated and traumatic childhood, abusive mother figure, near-immortality that made him witness people he loved die, rare powers that have isolated him further and desperation to see the Grisha being respected and accepted says hello ๐Ÿ™‹.
You call us fans of the category "The Darkling did nothing wrong". Well, just because we don't talk about his crimes every day does not mean we don't know about them. We just decide to talk about the Darkling in our blogs as a human, tragic figure that was much more complex than his "evil" actions. If we wanted to read about the Darkling and his evilness we would read KoS and RoW everyday. Zoya, Tolya and Genya were orators of that. But maybe we just decided to look deeper than this. To cast light to the parts he kept hidden and were so human and still valid.
Some call us even misogynistic for judging Alina. I didn't know that just because we judge one fictional, female character means that we hate all women. Wow. For your information, most of the times we judge the way she was handled by the author more than the character herself.
But having people making the Darkling a simple villain with no humanity is probably one of the worst butchering of a character I've ever seen.
Some people literally took an intriguing, complex character with selfless motivations and turned him into a power-hungry tyrant. Bye guys ๐Ÿ’€
I don't know. If you expect from me at least to post about how the Darkling was evil, a tyrant and a rapist then you are on the wrong page. I only write about the Darkling as human most of all. With tragic elements and human emotions and vulnerabilities that were actually there. But some people cannot read past the word "villain".

I've been seeing a weirdly high level of Dungeon Meshi discourse that just. Completely misses the point lately and I'm honestly kinda frustrated about it. So.
First point of address. Laios isn't canonically autistic. He is written in a way that lends itself to the reading of him being neuro divergent, and I think if he was a real person he would be on the spectrum, but the world of Dunmeshi itself does not have the concept of autism (yet). If it did you can bet the human enthusiast Kabru would have immediately pegged Laios as such. As for Falin, she'd also likely be ND but closer to ADHD judging by the relatively small amount we get to actually see her existing as a character.
NOW THAT THAT'S OUT OF THE WAY. Toshiro isn't being ableist with his expectations of Laios picking up on social queues and being angry that he doesn't get it! Laios is legitimately rude to him! In terms of micro-aggressions, he does it constantly and unintentionally. He straight up calls Toshiro strange looking and fucks up his name! But the thing is, Toshiro's biggest flaw is that he applies his cultural norms to his interactions with everyone, regardless of culture. Chilchuck and Mick have a small talk about how Toshiro, with zero indication of feelings beforehand or any romantic involvement, just asks Falin to marry him and expects it to go well, all because she looked at a bug and he thought she was the most unique and different woman he had ever met (small aside, almost all the women he had met at this point are either family, his dad's mistress that is more of a mom to him than his own mom, his retainers, and his uhhh indentured servants/Literal Slaves)(Itsuzumi is a whole ass other conversation that I'm not even remotely qualified to talk about). He's a man of high social status that's never had to think about that fact before, never had to examine the power and privilege he has at his disposal. As a result, his expectations of people to learn his cultural norms, something he's been used to in his homeland, go unmet and are a source of friction.
Here's a real life example. In the US Midwest, if a person slaps their knees and/or stands up, sometimes saying some combination of "Welp/it's getting late..." They're politely telling their guests "get the fuck out of my house." It's impolite to ask people to leave, even politely. This is absolutely arcane and insane, why would anyone do this? Society!
Toshiro has grown up in a place where he's had to be hyper-aware of these things, where he can't verbally state what he literally wants or means. And he's conformed! He's decided to do what's expected of him. Laios, on the other hand, instead chafed against the expectations put on him as the child of the village elder and against the way people treated Falin for being different. He gave up his privilege (assured house, home, fiancee, position and responsibility within their town) in order to pursue a freedom beyond the society he saw as wrong. Laios is fundamentally uninterested in people (as opposed to monsters and demi-humans which is why he's uniquely suited to dealing with the multicultural aftermath of The Whole Thing), but he values his loved ones and personal code of honor enough to do what he needs to protect those things, even if it means going against society.
Anyways this is a long winded way of saying Toshiro and Laios are complex characters and narrative foils of each other in the early narrative and shouldn't be turned into one dimensional parodies of themselves for the purpose of Hot Takes. Thanks.

Hey it's been a while, missed your blunt rants and opinions.
Today something just came into my mind when my boyfriend said I'm so bluntly flirty, upfront and bold but when it comes to it being initiated back to me, I usually back out and became shy and reserved. Then I wondered because although Jungkook is shy he can be bold and upfront flirty sometimes too so
Who do you think between him and Jimin is more dirty minded, most to get horny and that can randomly talk about sex and all?
Because I feel like Jungkook is just a small bunny you know all doe eyes and innocent baby while Jimin is more like daddy vibes๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜
Sometimes I get confused with their dynamic roles in the relationship because at times I would say Jimin is more in the in control role, decision making kinda think but then it changes and I can't exactly tell when and how
That's because they are both flirty and dirty minded and shock the pants off eachother- which is good cos sometimes pants can get in the way of - never mind
Tumblr media
I think you are right to assign Jm the decision making role in their dynamic- he's a natural at it being a libra and all that jazz. Then he's the hyung coupled with his high emotional IQ and life experiences especially as a hyung to his own bio bro- there's a reason women make better leaders than men ya know? It's not all about brains, heart matters too.
Fun fact, Jimin once said(drew) if he became a ruler he'd have all his hyungs bow down to him and worship him- except for Jungkook whom he'd coddle like feathery baby- which is odd cos outta the six it is Jungkook whom he had trouble bending to the knee. Couldn't even get him to treat him as a hyung and yet he's the one that gets a pass- even when he is in his ego he shows his heart, love compassion and a weakness for his Maknae( whom he drew as crying like a little bitch in his sketch๐Ÿ’€)
On the freaky scale, honey it's a tie between those two I'd say. I love Jimin and he's my bias but sorry he's the freakiest dude I've come across on the internet ๐Ÿ˜ญ
And Jeon Jungkook can hold his own too๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ
Smooth criminals๐Ÿฅฒ
There's a reason they both be shitting their pants when the other is dominating their 'fan service' moment or initiating it on stage. Jungkook had Jimin's knee wobbling with that last one
Tumblr media
Havent seen that man so terrified of another man in his personal space the gay panic was real bless his heart๐Ÿคง
Please don't let me think about them poking their tongues at eachother thinking they fast- ah shit
Tumblr media
Now I'm going over every freaky thing they've done as if checking off items on my grocery list๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ
The beauty about jikook is they challenge the cis heteronormative lens and the fact you feel you can't place them in a strict and set or defined box slash role makes me so happy because you shouldn't be able to put them in any set binary positions because they are a SAME SEX DUO๐Ÿ˜ญ
They are both complex human beings both intelligent and affectionate within their own right. Just because Jimin is the elder of the two and is predisposed to being treated as such which puts him in a position where he constantly have to call the shots don't mean he's carved out that niche for himself within their dynamic.
And just because Jungkook is the youngest of the two don't mean he can't make decisions for the two. He can and he should. He has my full support on that- Jimin can be a little dish out-can't take-dude sometimes.
And we see this play out in the little things- Jimin whispering to Jungkook asking if he wants to do something, Jungkook nodding or shaking his head at whatever it is Jimin asked just him.
Then sometimes he's not asking Jk, he's telling, he's reasoning with him, imposing on him- like grabbing him, pushing his limits, glaring at him, directing him, commanding him and Jungkook let's him.
Then JK on the other hand- he doesn't say much, you don't see him consulting or trying to reason through decisions with Jimin- he's not asking Hey JM would like my jacket you seem cold, he's just commanding him to take it because he's cold. He's not asking, do you want help with that box it looks heavy, he's taking it from him whether Jimin likes it or not because he's a gentleman.
He isnt much of a negotiator like Jimin is. And that's what makes them unique from any other ship. This dynamic they have- and its unique to Jikook and Jikook alone. I don't see Jk like this with anybody else.
And I wouldn't say that makes JM better than him or vice versa because it boils down to differences in their personalities. they express themselves in different ways because they are different.
Gosh, I wish you could see the images in my head whenever I'm writing about them like this. Its one moment after the other, It would make so much sense to yall.
Also permit me to overstep, most times I find persons who are able to flirt shamelessly but act shy when they are being treated the same do so out of one or a combination of the following reasons: self projection. They project themselves on the other person and judge themselves from that perspective. So they might be thinking damn that's so cringey, do I look this cringy when I do it etc. They shy because they self criticizing.
Then there are those who don't project necesarily but still engage in critiques and judgements of the situation especially if they think they themselves are better at flirting than their partner, or if they think their partner is doing too much, going outside their personality, faking things, copying them, or just being cringe. They shy because they embarrassed.
The opposite of that is putting your partner on a pedestal and thinking damn they hot, or they good at this, almost idolizing them in a way that inspires you to be more like them because you find whatever it is attractive and want to attract them too. They shy cos they whipped. (This is the case with Jikook I think or perhaps a mixture of both)
So in your case do you feel that's what's happening when your bf initiates? Do you feel shy because he's good at it and that gives you butterflies or do you feel shy because you think they cringe as hell? ๐Ÿ‘€
I'm asking for science.

Hey! @sonyawix
This is an interesting take and I had to consult with the Holder of the Jalice Braincells (@volturialice) to really break this down.
It sounds like the author of that take is kind of more interested in perfect, idealized relationships and might not be a fan of Alice, honestly. Plus SMeyer made a lot of the relationship dynamics in canon a really odd thing - we see all three Cullen relationships as very one-dimensional because of the relationship triptych I've ranted about before.
Because of Alice's backstory and her gift, we know that she's going to be a bit of a weirdo. She's essentially bet everything she has that the pictures in her brain are a path to happiness, that Jasper will make her happy. She has no reference point to interpersonal relationships beyond her visions, she has no memories of humanity; we really aren't shown exactly what level she was functioning at when she woke up. Those 28 missing years would be fascinating in how she built herself into a functional individual, honestly.
She bets everything on Jasper, and I think that shows what an optimistic, determined person she is. She could have gone to the Cullens straight away and probably would have been welcomed warmly - there's nothing in canon indicating that wasn't an option. But for whatever reason, Alice commits to waiting for Jasper. That's loyalty and dedication and love.
Just because their meeting was fated/planned doesn't mean it isn't meaningful.
So Alice seeing Jasper for all those years is not going to necessarily match up with him in real life. It's one thing to know a person has trauma, it's entirely another to meet that traumatized, depressed person. It's one thing to get the greatest hits of the relationship pumped straight into the brain, it's another to have all those small moments, those in-between times.
We know from Jasper's time with Maria that he tends to deify the women he's involved with. He put both Maria and Alice on a pedestal. That's just how he loves and commits - fully and totally. His 'hyperfocus' on Alice is a sign of how much he loves and treasures her. I honestly don't think it would have mattered how or when they met, Jasper would have treated her the same - the most precious thing he has.
We also know that Jasper has spent the best part of one hundred years in a high-stress environment where nothing was guaranteed. He didn't trust Maria at the end. So being introduced to someone who could tell him which path would be safe? Where there was no risk or fighting? I think that would be an incredible support for Jasper. I imagine in the early days, he'd probably ask Alice to check the future more than necessary because of his PTSD. And I can imagine Alice checking every time he asked, and going over all the details with love and patience.
And we know that Jasper does go against her wishes - he disagreed with her decision to return to Forks when Alice thought she had died, and Alice went alone (side note, if Jasper had gone with her, there was an opportunity for a lot of Eclipse set up right there.)
As for dehumanizing all her relationships, Alice is very distinctively trying to help throughout the series. It might be over the top, and it might not go to plan, but all of her visions and guidance are meant to help the people she loves. Alice has never known life without her sixth sense, so of course she uses it like we use our five senses. Does it give her a God-complex? Yes. Do I think it's meant to be more of a nod to Meyer's insistence on calling her a 'pixie' and utilizing fae imagery since fairies in lore are supported to love helping? Absolutely.
I think it's pretty disingenuous to say that people are 'ideas' to Alice when she was changed and abandoned. It's more likely that Alice is more intensely aware of what makes them happy so that they all stay together and she's not left alone again. If she didn't see people as people, but as chess pieces, then she wouldn't have go to see Charlie when she thought Bella was dead; she wouldn't have gone to Volterra to save Edward; she wouldn't have taken Jasper with her to find the hybrid.
So yeah, I disagree pretty strongly with this because it feels more like a way to minimize and dismiss Alice and her relationship with Jasper. But this is just my take on the character, and I'm sure there are dozens of different readings and interpretations out there!

For chose violence 12 13 14 :))
thank you very much for the ask, anon!
[choose violence ask game here]
12. who is an unpopular character you actually like, and why should more people like them?
i've answered this previously for petunia dursley, and i stand by that. but i also have another overlooked woman i adore:
merope gaunt.
meropeโ€™s son is, in my opinion, the most interesting character in the series, and his relationship with his dead motherโ€™s memory is one of the most fascinating things about him (and also an aspect of his characterisation which canon dwells on only lightly - dumbledoreโ€™s view that voldemort โ€˜despisesโ€™ merope is never interrogated, despite the fact that harry clearly clocks the ways in which his grief about his motherlessness drives his decisions).
but i also think that merope is a fascinating character in her own right, not least for what she reveals to us about the complex threads which bind being a victim and being a perpetrator together, what she shows about how there are no perfect victims, and what she shows about how there are no irredeemable perpetrators.
because merope is a rapist. there is no need to handwave that away. [even though canon does - love potions are treated as somewhat benign in the text, the canonical tom riddle sr. gets no sympathy whatsoever within the narrative, and he is blamed by both harry and dumbledore, even if this happens in ways which make sense for their characters, for โ€˜abandoningโ€™ his son.]
but she is also someone who must meaningfully lack the capacity to understand what she does as rape. the implication of canon is that she is subjected to incestuous sexual violence at her father and/or brotherโ€™s hands (morfinโ€™s jealousy over tom sr., and the fact that he tells tom jr. that merope โ€˜dishonouredโ€™ him by having a sexual relationship with another man, heavily suggests this), which the narrative once again considers vaguely amusing (the joke about the gaunts marrying their close blood relatives). she is certainly subjected to physical violence by them. she is treated as little more than an object to display her fatherโ€™s locket. this is a girl (sheโ€™s nineteen when she dies) who cannot have any idea what things like consent and bodily autonomy are, and who shows through this how this lack of safety and education in one personโ€™s life can go on to beget horror in anotherโ€™s.
and, alongside this, she also provides a particularly good insight into something which is often absent from the canon narrative - the failure of the wizarding state. it is extraordinary that, when morfin and marvolo are arrested, she is just left on her own. or that the state has made no prior effort to remove her from the home of two men with reputations for violence, or to make sure that she has an education, or to notice that she lives in grinding poverty. or that she is forced to sell her fatherโ€™s locket for a pittance because the wizarding state makes no effort to help heavily pregnant women who have nowhere else to go.
this - the fact that evil is often banal proceduralism, and that the greatest harm is caused by state apparatus - is something which is largely absent from the canon narrative, which tends to locate good or evil within the individual. so too is the reality of gendered violence, or how poverty affects women specifically, or how the institutions praised in the series - hogwarts chief among them - maintain a social structure which is hugely oppressive. these things go on to affect voldemort too, but they originate with merope.
[she also deserves defending on one specific charge, which sincerely makes my blood boil: the idea that she could have avoided dying in childbirth if sheโ€™d been braver. throughout the course of human history hundreds of thousands of women, who would have loved to have stayed alive for their babies, have bled to death in childbirth, because it is dangerous. they did not fail. they were unlucky.]
13. who gets the worst blorbofication?
remus lupin.
lupin is ready to execute a man in cold blood seconds after learning heโ€™s still alive, and he doesnโ€™t give a shit that three children will be watching. thatโ€™s undoubtedly justified, given what wormtail did, but itโ€™s an edge that the chocolate-loving king of cardigans never seems to have.
14. what is that one thing you see in fics all the time?
pornography, i supposeโ€ฆ

Hange (hanji, hanz, or however you personally pronounce the name,) is one of my favourite anime characters.
It was the first time I'd ever seen an enby treated as a complex and compelling character outside of their gender identity. I was, for many years and in many ways, still am, battling coming to terms with my own gender queerness and was in denial for the entire time aot was my special interest (am audhd).
Hange was also the first time I realized I was attracted to enbies and not just men, (and later on women.) Eventually I'd figure out I'm pan because of hange! [ur gender has no bearing on my attraction to u, I just think ur hot an want u to live ur best life lol].
It was also refreshing to see how much care the author had put into this character, not just in their role in the story, but also in their gender. The inspiration for a gender queer character supposedly came to the mangaka, Isayama when listening to lyrics about being an enby written and preformed by a genderqueer artist (said artist and band would go on to do openings and endings to the aot anime) Hange also notably does not bind when in action (as that would be a health concern,) but does in civilian wear.
It's rare to see an enby who's identity is not invalidated by other characters due to secondary sex characteristics and when they choose to show those characteristics :').
And of course, in real life, volumes were recalled when he got wind that official English translations were exclusively using she/her. If only that same pressure was put on the Netflix and crunchyroll sub and dub :/.... regardless the casting of hange and the VAs in Japanese being aware of hange's queerness was understood by the directors and actors right from get go. All this to say, man,,, I love hange.
[Bigger text to read easier]
Heavy topics and spoilers below!!!!
I haven't finished reading or watching aot due to feeling very bogged down by rumors (or, and I'm not sure if there are, genuine, with sources, allegations,) of Isayama holding fascists beliefs consciously. I haven't the heart to dig deep into research and trying to find reliable translations to confirm if this is true or not. And honestly, even though it's the cowards way out and it speaks volumes about my privilege, I don't want to know of such rumors are true.
For me, that energy spent digging through every documented thing Isayama and his coworkers have said is better spent donating, petitioning, and protesting against current, real world tragedies involving fascism and colonization.
So because of me have been greatly spoiled about the endings to the anime and manga, I am aware that hange dies. I'm not fully aware of all of the context surrounding it but- from what I do know, hange was essentially, narriatvely, too good of a person to live.
For me, the ending of aot is a warning. A worst case scenario. A "See? Extremist politics and beliefs hurt everyone. See? This is what the cycle of abuse causes. See? This is what colonization and bigotry leads to. No one wins in war, everyone looses." Situation. All the main characters are fundamentally changed, essentially all of them have negative arcs. Mika and armin mourn the loss of erens humanity, (if he ever had any,) and the person they thought they knew. Yet they must finally own up to the consequences of that very same person's monstrous, selfish actions and be the ones to finish him. Essentially, humanity is messy and complicated and nothing is black and white. Humanity and be beautiful but we can also be so, so, cruel.
In conclusion, stand with palistine, congo, and everywhere else where colonization, capitalism and human greed has made innocent people suffer.

Ppl who say shit like โ€œhe has sisters, he canโ€™t be misogynisticโ€ are dumb as hell lmaoo like have they not heard of the madonna whore complex, he doesnโ€™t see his female family members they way he does woman not related to him
I honestly wouldnโ€™t base guys mentality off the madonna whore complex but I guess itโ€™s a way to get people into understanding why some dudes may think the way they do. I really just think itโ€™s known most guys are built the way theyโ€™re because of the environment they grew up in wether thatโ€™s from cultural influences, figures in life, social circles and societal pressures, the list could go on tbh lol. When guys group together the majority of the time they feed into each other's non sense and derogatory behaviour, especially behind closed doors. Itโ€™s nothing new.
Yes Iโ€™ve been seeing a bunch of subs about being surprised about his behaviour since he has sisters and all that. I think more people need to grasp that just because someone has women figures in their lives that they respect it doesn't mean jack shit and doesn't mean they will treat everyone outside from that the same. I understand why people think that way because you'd assume growing up with female siblings can provide firsthand experience and empathy for women's perspectives, challenges and humanity.

for the ask game...... KAITO!! :D
EHEHE MY BABY!!!!!!!!! :DD THANK YOU!! Of course my fav character of all time, like really :3 right up there with Chiaki eheh.
Favorite thing about them: Basically everything!! He's such a complex and interesting character, I feel like there's soooo much to him, he's so cool to get to know more of, and his character alone gives me the opportunity to explore a lot of deep interesting topics and seeing things more grey rather than black and white. Besides, he's not perfect, and even though I love him, I found myself disagreeing with him a lot, which is seriously so amazing, I love flawed characters which make them more relatable and human!! Now more into Kaito himself, LIKE HE'S SO BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING, LIKE HE ACTUALLY ALWAYS CARED ABOUT EVERYONE AND WANTED EVERYONE TO SURVIVE AND FOLLOW THEIR DREAMS AND BE HAPPY! He hides himself bc he's scared to be seen as weak, but also bc he's scared of not being relied on, and if nobody relies on him he can't help anyone. He always puts others above himself even if he appears a bit cocky sometimes, he shows to be very insecure deep down, when he said "you fell for a guy like me" I literally CRIED, he deserves so much love. When I first saw him I thought he was a bit out there, and his design was not my thing, apart from the space design on the jacket, but now he's like super hot, everything about his design is beautiful bc it's so unique of him and I love him, even that stupid goatee I wanna touch it so badly AHHHH Kaito with his hair down also >>>>>> -
Least favorite thing about them: Like I said Kaito is not perfect, and what I dislike about him has got to be how he treated Ryoma. I wish they had gotten a better treatment like in the manga we get to see how Kaito really feels about Ryoma and Ryoma would also surely appreciate that support. But in the game, Kaito was very insensitive for sure, I consider that there's more deep down besides the idol thing, like, everybody forgets that Kaito was already dying by that point and he knew that. Him seeing his idol giving up on life when Kaito thinks he has a "choice" (it's not a matter of choice, but following Kaito's train of thought here) but Kaito himself does not have a choice, he has so many dreams but he knows he's dying and I feel like that must have had some impact on why he treated Ryoma like that, relating again, with the fact Ryoma was his idol, someone whom he admired to follow his own dreams, so I know it must be heartbreaking for Kaito, but it was still very insensitive, and I really wish they at least had some better interactions in UTDP, bc I really think these two deserved to be on better terms. -
Favorite line: J-Just one???? Nah, that's illegal. Here have a bunch of lines: 1. "Being able to share your burdens with othersโ€ฆ that's how you get stronger" 2. "Hey! Were you guys making out while I was gone?!" 3. "Hey! Who you calling NPC, you A-S-S!?" 4. "If you want to give up, wait until you've done everything you possibly can!" 5. "The impossible is possible! All you gotta do is make it so!" 6. "No matter how many times we fight, we smile in the end... that's what true friendship is!" 7. "Sometimes you gotta be a little reckless to make your dreams a reality!" 8. "That could have been anyone walking around in women's underwear! Even me!" 9. "That's because, limits don't exist unless you set them yourself" 10. "I believe in you." -
BrOTP: With Himiko!! Not actually related, they are best friends! I had made a "understand my friendship" in 5 minutes post where I showed a bit their dynamic. Kaito sending Himiko very cute memes and images, while Himiko sending cursed things just to scare Kaito, but in a lighthearted way! Kaito actually believed in Himiko's magic or at least on how she wants to make people smile with her magic and I'm sure he'd help her believe in herself more. Also Kaito would totally give Himiko piggyback rides when she's tired!!! Another BrOTP is with Kazuichi! They'd be such good bros! Ahh I wish they had interacted at some point, they'd totally bond! I love how some people made comics showing how Kaito would help Kazuichi get over Sonia, move on and become someone he can be proud of, learning to love himself and chase his passions. Also how Kazuichi would talk about rockets with Kaito, I love them so much!! -
OTP: SAIMOTA IS LOVE, SAIMOTA IS LIFE!! They support, admire, love, care, never judge one another. They are so sweet and so cute and adorable and they are also so gay, like... I could be here talking about them forever (I was, but CHARACTER LIMIT ON TUMBLR SOMEHOW??) Anyway, they fit so many themes and aesthetics, like, Saimota is literally SEASONS, like, spring, summer, autumn, winter!! They also fit so well either cottage core or even like city streets, neon lights, parties, they are perfect in every way. They hold hands to comfort each other. They switch their roles a lot, always support each other equally and communication is really their strength!! They already went through that development in the game, and it's perfect. Anyway, special other OTP mentions: Training Trio, Oumota, Amamota, Akamota, Momoharu, Gokumota, Cyberspace and basically yeah, any ship with Kaito is great. -
NOTP: With Junko. Keep her away from my boy. I saw some people make some headcanons of them interacting, no, no no no no NO. My boy deserves love and happiness! -
Random headcanon: Kaito never met his dad and his mom left him, so that's why he grew up with his grandparents. He was always dreaming and studying so he was actually a very lonely kid, but he'd always be happy and smiling bc he wanted to make his dreams come true! Also all of Kaito's clothes have some sort of space design or space related thing about them bc I say so. -
Unpopular opinion: Kaito is not homophobic or misogynistic. He has toxic masculinity traits, but he always respects women, he may have made some sexist comments, but it was never out of hate for women or for seeing them as less than men?? Kaito didn't see Maki as weak because she was a girl, he invited her to the meeting of who would fight Monokuma in ch.1, he also invited a bunch of other girls, he clearly respected their strength. Even if he says "a man shouldn't apologise so easily" Kaito does apologise when he needs to and he also says that to Kaede, he tells her to not apologise for something that's not her fault, clearly showing how he doesn't treat women differently. And he's not homophobic just because of a very misplaced word that came out of nowhere and didnt' mean anything for anything at anything in the story, characters, dynamics, relationships, plot, nothing. It was put there by the writers for nothing, it has no relation to Kaito's character at all, there's no other evidence of him being "homophobic", he's not homophobic!!! He may have some traditional views, and Kaito is stubborn about a lot of things, but he cares about others and I'm sure if they'd teach him more about it, he'd try his best to respect it, bc he can see the good in people deep down and that's always what he cares about the most! - Another unpopular opinion is that PG Kaito is not a bully, he's pretty chill actually, I consider him intimidating, but not physically violent!! I hate how everyone just decided to make him a bully to find an excuse to hate on Kaito. Kaito doesn't even have a canon sad face PG sprite in the wiki, for me he's even more chill than IG Kaito, he's just protective over the ones he loves. He'd NOT bully Kokichi or Shuichi, instead he'd be stepping in to protect them!! -
Song i associate with them: Oooo I have A LOT. I have already made a video for him with the song "Stressed Out - Twenty One Pilots", but I have many others, which I don't want to reveal bc I plan on making a video with them in the future, so it's a surprise :) -

โ€œThe Sound of Her Wingsโ€ and The Death Positive Movement (Spoilers)
Since a lot of tumblr โ€œSandmanโ€ fans are only focusing on HobxDream shipping (tumblr simplifying complex media to obsessive shipping - shocker), I figured it would be nice for someone to talk about Death as presented in the comics and show.ย  How changing the order to Hob sharing an episode with Death was one of the smartest ways to do a TV adaptation.
This part in the comics didnโ€™t get followed by the Hob story.ย  In fact - the part with Franklin specifically had a bit more to it if I remember right.ย I love that Neil took the show a different route which left us with a really overall nuanced view on dying. While the story of Hob starts with Death - her personification doesnโ€™t keep playing an active role.ย  However death (lowercase) does.ย  Death as a concept always underlies immortality tales.ย  To die is a fact of life - so to defy it creates an alternate state of life.ย  An absence of death almost brings more focus to death than death itself does. So this show made an EXCELLENT parallel in these two stories. Especially when Deathโ€™s message was how Dream should connect more with the humans that they are to serve.ย  Which is what he is doing with his little Hob experiment and with Shakespeare.
Now onto the Death part of the episode.ย  She brings up that when life was new that nobody really feared death.ย  One may argue that this is contrary to our innate biological programming.ย  After all, one classification of living things is drive to stay alive.ย  It is a common misconception to assign that to individuals of a species, but many species have individuals knowingly die in order to reproduce (octopi) or for the good of the many (ants).ย  Individualism doesnโ€™t exist naturally in nature or even in most of human civilization.ย  The West largely pushed for individualism instead of collectivism or tribalism. However, a large part of human experience in history is being willing to sacrifice or die for an ethnic group, religion, region, or familial unit. Women willing to die in childbirth.ย  Men willing to die in wars.ย  Death was still tragic (cultural expectations around grief and widows is fascinating) but at several points in history was viewed more casually than it was today.ย  Even in the West - focus was on having lots of kids in case a few die.ย  Many didnโ€™t receive names right away which is why so many graves for babies and toddler just sayย โ€œBabyโ€ on them.
Iโ€™m still terrified of death.ย  Most of us are.ย  The thought of just...ending. Of life existing outside of ourselves.ย  Iโ€™ve been extremely suicidal in the past and have to watch myself for ideation rearing its ugly head and I STILL fear death most of the time when I really think deeply about it.
This episode is important.ย  So was the comic character.ย  Death being positive and comforting.ย  Death itself being compared to birth.ย  Something that can happen to any person on any day.ย  On your honeymoon, at birth, to violence, or at home in our old age. Few people choose how or when they go.
It reminds me of something Iโ€™ll occasionally read about called the Death Positive Movement.ย  Donโ€™t worry - it isnโ€™t a murder cult.ย  It is a movement around appreciating life, but also accepting that all truly living things must die.ย  They fight to end the stigma around discussing death.ย  What death means.ย  What it looks like.ย  For a fact of life - death is treated as a taboo subject, which only makes it scarier for people who know it is happening to them.ย  Death wasnโ€™t wrong for saying most people need a friendly face.ย  Viewing Death as a gentle voice instead of a scythe wielding cloaked asshole makes the process less scary.ย  I suggest people read more at orderofthegooddeath.com/death-positive-movement for a good intro to these concepts.
Now for someone with suicide ideation like me - I was grateful that Hobโ€™s story followed the Death story.ย  Because while Death is inevitable and something to be accepted - we shouldnโ€™t seek it out.ย  Humans can change.ย  Society and circumstances can change.ย  Hob himself went from curious to rich asshole to miserable drunk to slaver to savvy business dude. He improved. He grew and learned.ย  And the world around him did as well. There is a lesson I found in the order of these two stories.ย  Death is inevitable and an inevitable part of life (since I highly doubt a real Hob is out there lol), but life itself is equally valuable.ย  We should treasure every second that we get of it.ย  As someone with deep traumas and pain, it helped me to see Hob say heย โ€œhas so much to live forโ€ at his worst moments. We can destigmatize death without hating on life.ย  Death is a part of life.ย  John Dee said in episode 5 that all stories going on long enough end with death, but this episode proves that the stories are still worth living out til that last moment.ย  Our stories all ending in death doesnโ€™t mean everything before that point doesnโ€™t matter. Our purpose is our function and our function is to live til our bodies give out on us in one way or another.

Arnav - Possessive Behaviour (Additional Thoughts)
TW- Mentions of Suicide, Abusive behaviour, Toxic masculinity, SA.
I just wanted to add some additional thoughts that I had from the last post, specifically around Arnav and his toxic masculinity particularly how he dehumanises Khushi on many occasion, the suicide scene being a major example. Arnav reacts out of anger and stress, which is implied to be born from โ€˜concern and loveโ€™ (๐Ÿ™ƒ๐Ÿ™ƒ) yet i perceived it completely differently, to me the scene read as possessive dehumanisation, it felt to me that Arnav was more stressed about losing the โ€˜objectโ€™ of his desires/hatred, as opposed to a human being who is entitled to love and care, or at least basic human rights. It was like watching a child get angry over nearly loosing his favourite toy, please pardon my bluntness. The way he grabs her, screams at her and treats her in that scene, like how could Khushi even dare to attempt something like that, which heโ€™s rightโ€ฆshe shouldnโ€™t have, but Itโ€™s as if sheโ€™s not entitled to any autonomy. Sheโ€™s not a human with her own feelings, life and ambition, sheโ€™s not entitled to a sense of safety or even her own body (Arnav has no qualms flinging her about, or manโ€™s handling her). Sheโ€™s not Khushi, the person. Sheโ€™s Khushi, HIS wife.
Tumblr media
I think itโ€™s great that Arnav eventually overcomes this, such as in the scene he slaps an employee for calling Khushi an โ€˜itemโ€™ but itโ€™s quite hypocritical that he was treating her as such, by coercing her to come back to his house etc, by using rather cruel.
I donโ€™t completely hate this trait, itโ€™s a realistic character flaw and like I mentioned he does eventually overcome it, and Arnav as a character is a complex morally grey man, so I have no qualms.
But again the suicide scene just triggers my anger, Arnav, despite having his flaws, is an honourable man. This is what makes him so attractive, despite his cruelty, he has a strong sense of right and wrong, a clear code of ethics. I hate that both Arnav and Khushi were disrespected as characters during that track.
Tumblr media
I just want to make clear that Iโ€™m not trying to bash Arnav! I love his morally grey ways but at times he does cross the fine line and the way he reacted to Khushiโ€™s was one of them. Also thereโ€™s many instances he does enters into the dehumanising possessive territory and itโ€™s pretty alarming, at times the show disguises it as โ€˜protective possessivenessโ€™ โ€ฆ Iโ€™ll attempt to post a part 3 with all of the instances.
Also, the line โ€˜it takes 2 hands to clapโ€™ (roughly in English) when heโ€™s confronting Khushi, is so rooted in deep misogyny and sexism. Thatโ€™s literally victim blaming โ€ฆakin to โ€˜what was she wearing?โ€™, โ€˜she must have seduced himโ€™. I know at this time he doesnโ€™t believe Khushi and believes his own eyes but sheโ€™s literally disclosed her truth, even if he doesnโ€™t believe it, thatโ€™s still a very damaging statement. This is why women (and Khushi) are so scared to speak out, because women are the ones who get blamed. Arnav is meant to be a modern, rather progressive man but he still comes out with this sexist bullshit, which is so ironic as he hates toxic traditions. A part of him believes Khushi was to blame ( again along the lines of โ€˜what was she wearingโ€™ ..that mentality) as later after Anjaliโ€™s self harm, he comes out with โ€˜if you werenโ€™t here, Shyam wouldnโ€™t have done what he didโ€™ (sorry I butchered the line! It was something like this). So, deep down, Arnav must believe this to some extent up until Shyam confesses, arguably.
Tumblr media
This is a rather sensitive topic and a radical take but please if you disagree let me know, or if anyone feels uncomfortable with this subject matter, Iโ€™ll take the post down. Iโ€™m nervous because I know this is a very controversial take!

Chainsaw Man episode 2:
I think the element with the most potential is actually the wierd relationship between Makima and Denji.
Episode 2 introduced what seems to be our core cast, but I think the roller coaster of feelings Denji went through at the start of the episode was the highlight.
Denji has a sense of what good and bad relationships look like, but because he has had a pretty horrible life and few (to no) relationships, the moment he recieves any kind of kindness, any kind of critical thinking in a relationship goes out of the window. He doesn't have much of a sense of nuance for feelings.
Power and Aki are jerks/crazy to him, so they're crazy (and to be fair Power absolutely seems exactly inside as she is on the surface) and he seems to at least understand Aki better after the confrontation with him, but Makima is nice to him once (also because she has boobs), so she's nice, when in truth she is kind of treating him like a dog.
Positive reinforcement via reward: warm clothes, food, nice words.
The most emotionally genuine she seemed was when she hugged him, but even in that scene I got the sense there is a clear cold wall in there and no real genuine warmth behind her actions and Denji isn't seeing any of that.
I read her as super emotionally detatched and that makes sense considering what her job is (and if that's the correct reading I'm curious what made her that way however simple of complex that might might be), but this is also leaning into a stereotype that can be taken into some really annoying directions: women are just cold, manipulative assholes/crazies leading men on.
But it could also go in a way where Makima is treated like a human being by the narrative even if she is manipulative while Denji also learns that chasing boobs is the shallow thing, but also that Makima is actually kinda using him.
There's a scene in episode 2 where Denji feels like even if his dream seems to have come true, there is something missing in his life.
That something is probably not boobs, but a genuine emotional connection with someone and with the info I have 2 episodes in, right now Makima either has a massive wall or nothing in terms of a genuine ability/wish to connect to people emotionally.
Denji is essentially one of the horrible monsters humanity is fighting, but something also tells me Makima's lack of empathy might be separate.
And as said that can be spun in wierd directions (women are cold monsters for not taking care of men's feelings, wierd mysterious creatures whose only purpose is to be manipulative/cruel etc).
But I'm hoping for both complex Denji and complex Makima.
Complex messed up/wierd relationships are one way to get me invested in a story.
And as also said this one has potential and I hope the story does something interesting with it.

I think my point was not as 'fare' to Roche and Ves's character, since they were created in the second game. I was trying to make an argument on how Cdpr's writing is dogshit, so I should show the other example, but in the game where they make their original appearance. Sorry for disturbing you again, english isn't my native language, so it's really hard for me to articulate my thoughts properly. I put more brainpower into sounding smart. But anyways, back to the point.
In tw2, there's one thing that absolutely fucking destroyed my brain with how stupid it is. And that thing - is the genocide of vrans. The devs really said: "The elves are oppressed and all, but we kinda made them too good, we need to make the situation more grey. Hm...UH YES, let's make them guilty of genocide!! They're actually as bad as humans! See, player!! Don't feel too bad for them!"....why, Cdpr, WHY?! Sapkowski shouldn't have sold his books to these morons...
So yeah, I really-really doubt, that Cdpr wanted us to perceive Roche and Ves as some kind of metaphor.
Okay, I hear you, and I'm never going to come on here and defend CDPR's writing as a whole. They treat women like hell, they've tried to equate genocidal military forces with minority freedom fighters (your example with the elves), they've been explicitly racist with the way they framed the Ofieri people in hearts of stone, there's antisemitic tropes used in the added vampire lore from blood and wine, and on and on, sometimes stuff just literally doesn't make sense, I could go on forever.
They're a corporation, they selling a pop culture franchise product, of course it's a mess when it comes to social commentary sometimes.
But there is still a team of professional writers behind it. They're aware of concepts like archetypal characters, mirroring between two story lines or people, theme, metaphor, tone, and social commentary.
continued with sources below:
You mentioned the Bloody Baron in an earlier ask, I agreed with you, I also can't stand his quest. I think it's badly written, it reads way too much as a centrist stance on domestic abuse and that's useless, he'll never be a sympathetic character to me. And yet here's an interview with Paweล‚ Sasko who wrote the quest:
The roots of Family Matters can be traced back to Saskoโ€™s childhood, growing up in a poor village in the Polish mountains. โ€œI saw families destroyed by alcoholism and violence,โ€ he says. โ€œI saw parents fighting with each other and beating their kids, but they were also in love and loyal to their family.โ€
โ€œThe Baron was created as a parallel to Geralt,โ€ says Sasko. โ€œTheyโ€™re two fathers who have lost their loved ones; two men with blood on their hands; they both have personality issues; theyโ€™d do anything for their families.โ€ (Link to full article)
The whole interview is really interesting, I still think it's a bad quest, I think Sasko failed to write the nuanced story that he set out to tell, but regardless, he was trying to tell a story. He considered real life examples, he attempted to created a character parallels, he approached social issues, cultural links, he DID want us to view this character as a metaphor for something, something from his own community and childhood - and I really doubt that he was the only writer at the studio who at least tried for similar depth, or that the Baron was the only side character who was written with similar considerations in mind.
Here's story director Marcin Blacha on the writing choices in the witcher games:
โ€œWe want to talk about serious problems, about complex situations, about things that, sometimes, make the player uncomfortable. Choices must then be crafted in such a way that they do not simplify the world, but instead, have the player think and interpret it.โ€ (Source)
Again with this emphasis on more complex levels of storytelling and the inclusion of heavy themes. When they write a character who does something super racist like a militarized hate crime, it's safe to assume that yeah, they're probably trying to address or at least touch on racism here, or misogyny, or nationalism, or something kinder like the difficulties of fatherhood. Maybe you disagree with the way I interpret a certain character or story line - good! normal! - but the writers still intend for us to interpret, to discover our own real word links, to challenge our own views.
Here's a link to a (way too long) presentation by two quest and level designers from CDPR about how they approach narrative and tone in a video game -> If you jump to minute 32, they discuss how even something as benign as choosing where to place food items was done with a narrative in mind, with the intention of enhancing setting, atmosphere, relatability, ect.
There's also a great interview with CDPR writer Karolina Stachyra who talks about how she got hired, why she loves the witcher, how some scenes (specifically in hearts of stone) pay homage to classic polish literature, and she also says: "We make sure to establish [the characters in TW3] as real people, so they are not just there to advance the plot." (source)
I'll stop cause this is getting long, but there's also this interesting interview with writers from TW2.
What I'm trying to say here is, yes, CDPR has a lot of bad writing going on, I'll never defend that, but there is a still a clear attempt at genuine storytelling - a process of narrative, framing, metaphor, ect. I fully expect you or anyone else to disagree with my personal opinions of what a character may stand for, but do you really believe that these characters therefore were meant to stand for nothing? I'm sorry that there's a language barrier here, I hope I'm addressing the core of your ask, but this the best response I can give you right now.
disclaimer: really don't want to excuse any of CDPR's failings either. I'm not saying: aw, but at least they tried, that's better than nothing! And actually, in a lot of cases, the intent makes things worse. When they do something like approach the harsh realities of misogyny in military settings through Ves' character but then just write more misogynistic shit by having her enthusiastically jump into a sexy cutscene with geralt.....yeah now you guys made it WORSE???

For the character bingo: luida from tristamp?
Original HERE
Tumblr media
Alright caveat that I watched tristamp in a knives-fueled fever dream two months ago and havent been back since I've been working my way through the og anime and manga instead and so my memory is hazy.
Luida! what a fascinating character. Totally capable of imprisioning an adolescent indefinitely until they find a use for him. Either unaware of or or unable to stop the harassment of her prisioner by her crew. Vash is only let out once he shows himself to be useful. If Vash hadn't been able to hear/help the dependant plants I genuinely wonder if he would've ended up in a similar situation as Tesla on tristamp!home.
Once he's allowed to be a person and not a circus exhibit, he is treated with kindness and respect. She clearly cares for him, and cares for her people on board the ship, and for keeping them safe. That- and the eventual introduction of flora to the planet they crashed on (!!!) is her main goal. It's so, so easy for humans to take a look at their social group, and then take a look at an outsider, and decide that one outsider is an acceptable sacrifice to keep the group healthy. I think this is what happens at first with Luida and Vash in tristamp. She even has the excuse of knowing from the beginning, before he even wakes up, that this is not a human being. That he is in fact a member of the species (?) whose main use is as a resource for humanity. Given that, I can understand how she got to "the best decision is to lock up this sentient being".
And despite all this, Vash adores her. (this isn't necessarily notable- Vash loves humanity and his guilt complex is the size of the planet. He will forgive all sorts of abuse.) But he does. Some of this may be him imprinting on a Rem-shaped object. He loves her and she loves him. She and Brad and the other members of Home are one of the few constants in his life- a century and a half later, he can still go and see them. How rare that must be for him! Here is a memory of what life used to be like. Here is hope. Here is home.
* the green dots are for trimax only- I liked Luida's design fine in tristamp, but I recently met her in trimax and her look is SO MUCH COOLER there. I love how Nightow draws some of his women. Its not even necessarily that they're gnc, its that they're Just People. These are ladies I've passed on the street.
