the second best change to the Sandman Netflix series was humanizing John Dee (he was boring to me in the comics)
the absolute best change was instead of just showing the “collector” convention panels, having it be Gilbert reacting to each panel and slowly figuring out what’s happening. Suspenseful but hilarious. 10/10. Perfection.

queencolondarkwing replied to your post:every time life is strange tries to make me feel...
Yeah he is abusive and controlling. A lot of the characters try to seem good but so many of them would annoy me as max
ho yeah there’s so many characters i’m unwilling to defend (victoria included even if you play her the nicest possible way she’s constantly talking trash about you fuck her) but even nathan who’s done some fucked up shit but is clearly not getting the therapy/meds he needs (and is implied to be denied these things by his parents for possible cult reasons????) so i’m holding back true judgement until episode 5 is out but david plays as this “concerned father” archetype and the game is like oh he just takes it too far and may be involved with nathan the conspiracy’s getting deep but nothing prompted him to hit her like that yeah chloe’s a problem child but i was a fucking problem child when i was way younger and my parents didn’t solve it by slapping me so like every time david’s like “you broke up my family max” i’m like YOU FUCKING SLAPPED YOUR DAUGHTER

A Wholesome Wrestling Team for Tumblr-ites
Most people I know on tumblr don’t like wrestling.  I get it.  I didn’t at first, but have become a casual fan over time.  It is sort of like violent Cirque Du Soliel to me.  I love stage shows/acting.  I love looking at buff ladies.  I like people acting and dressing extra af.
AEW is the more ethical company (WWE has so many issues I could get into, but I won’t). There is a team for this company that I think even non-fans would appreciate.  Wholesome, silly, and talented.  Trust me - it has tumblr fandom energy. Let me introduce you to...
The Best Friends
Tumblr media
Who is this group of besties?  Well, it started with two wrestlers.  Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta.  Both of them are wrestlers who tend to compete as a tag team.  Their gimmick?  Being best friends. One of their main ongoing things is to randomly hug each other during the match (well...when not interrupted by other wrestlers).  Trent’s mom also plays a part in the gimmick.  It’s very cute.
youtube
Chuck Taylor pulled in the third member, Orange Cassidy (his real life best friend and roommate).  Orange Cassidy has become incredibly famous. The whole persona he has is of someone who doesn’t care.  His two bubbly besties, Chuck and Trent, will hug this cool Fonz-esque guy.  Three besties.
Orange Cassidy is also incredibly talented.  Scary talented.  Say what you will about wrestling.  Is it scripted? Yes.  Does it still take intense athletic ability? If you do it right.  Orange Cassidy does it right.  Just watch this dude.  His abs must hurt like Hell (also ignore that the Best Friends dressed like Rick and Morty)
youtube
Now...I said that I like Wrestling has buff ladies.  While not the buffest woman in wrestling... Kris Statlander is still pretty great. Her gimmick before her ACL injury was to be “The Galaxy’s Greatest Alien” given that she is a science nerd. They dropped the gimmick for a more serious character, but she still plans to incorporate her own nerdiness here and there...Hopefully she can heal and eventually come back soon.
youtube
My current favorite member is Danhausen.  He could go the the typical creepy goth dude route...but he didn’t. He describes his character as “Conan O’Brian possessed by a demon”.  Dude is weird.  Like really weird.  And I love him. Even a wrestling reviewer, Jim Cornette, who hates gimmick wrestling admitted to liking Danhausen initially.  He is “Very Nice, Very Evil”.  He wrestles, puts curses on people, and does interviews with other wrestlers. He was in a tag team once with wrestler named, Hook, which people called Hookhausen...which is just...very tumblr shipping worthy.
youtube
There is also the past member Wheeler Yuta, who I don’t know as much about admittedly.  But from what I’ve seen - He is lovely.
youtube
Where is my roadtrip movie about all these best buds?  Seriously?  I love them.

Dear Samm, I admire you. You have a nice tumblr blog. You make me grin wildly. You should be whatever you want to be. Someday I will maybe meet you. You + me = 2 queer-ios on tumblr. If I saw you now I’d say "whoa look at that sexy girl. do I follow her?". I want to keep following you. I would build a Vegetarian dish just for you. If I could sing you any song it would be Hakuna Matata (why? I dunno). We could blog &laugh under the stars. Love, queencolondarkwing ( P.S. I don't usually do these.
Awe, this made me really content :3

Um…
some couple just approached us on fetlife and want us to eventually move in with them so they can financially support and date us. The woman also said she may want to have my primary partner’s child.
I’m not monogamous, but I’m beginning to feel I may believe in reproductive fidelity because the idea of that offended me deeply. We have been building a life together and haven’t had our own kids yet. I would at least insist we have kids first before he branches out, but this woman is older and on a timeline…just…I know it’s hierarchy…but ain’t no way. Kids are a HUGE commitment and not just some willynilly decision that this lady and her hiss and are talking like it is. I think she just wants a mixed race child tbh…
keep in mind we haven’t even MET these people yet and only started talking to this older couple days ago. I don’t romantically connect to people easily. We mainly are swingers/open relationship and not polyamory (but open to it). It took 7 years of slutting around before I got with my partner. I’m very picky. They seem to assume we wanna jump into a relationship. And also that they can create a closed relationship with us (he hates condoms apparently) when we are both very popular in the swinger scene right now.
like nah I don’t know anything about either of you yet. Chill. Let’s take things slow. I view them talking about us moving in as they’re younger human sex toys when they don’t know us yet to be a massive red flag, but we agreed to hookup in a few weeks to at least test sexual compatibility. We aren’t committing though.

“The Sound of Her Wings” and The Death Positive Movement (Spoilers)
Since a lot of tumblr “Sandman” fans are only focusing on HobxDream shipping (tumblr simplifying complex media to obsessive shipping - shocker), I figured it would be nice for someone to talk about Death as presented in the comics and show.  How changing the order to Hob sharing an episode with Death was one of the smartest ways to do a TV adaptation.
This part in the comics didn’t get followed by the Hob story.  In fact - the part with Franklin specifically had a bit more to it if I remember right. I love that Neil took the show a different route which left us with a really overall nuanced view on dying. While the story of Hob starts with Death - her personification doesn’t keep playing an active role.  However death (lowercase) does.  Death as a concept always underlies immortality tales.  To die is a fact of life - so to defy it creates an alternate state of life.  An absence of death almost brings more focus to death than death itself does. So this show made an EXCELLENT parallel in these two stories. Especially when Death’s message was how Dream should connect more with the humans that they are to serve.  Which is what he is doing with his little Hob experiment and with Shakespeare.
Now onto the Death part of the episode.  She brings up that when life was new that nobody really feared death.  One may argue that this is contrary to our innate biological programming.  After all, one classification of living things is drive to stay alive.  It is a common misconception to assign that to individuals of a species, but many species have individuals knowingly die in order to reproduce (octopi) or for the good of the many (ants).  Individualism doesn’t exist naturally in nature or even in most of human civilization.  The West largely pushed for individualism instead of collectivism or tribalism. However, a large part of human experience in history is being willing to sacrifice or die for an ethnic group, religion, region, or familial unit. Women willing to die in childbirth.  Men willing to die in wars.  Death was still tragic (cultural expectations around grief and widows is fascinating) but at several points in history was viewed more casually than it was today.  Even in the West - focus was on having lots of kids in case a few die.  Many didn’t receive names right away which is why so many graves for babies and toddler just say “Baby” on them.
I’m still terrified of death.  Most of us are.  The thought of just...ending. Of life existing outside of ourselves.  I’ve been extremely suicidal in the past and have to watch myself for ideation rearing its ugly head and I STILL fear death most of the time when I really think deeply about it.
This episode is important.  So was the comic character.  Death being positive and comforting.  Death itself being compared to birth.  Something that can happen to any person on any day.  On your honeymoon, at birth, to violence, or at home in our old age. Few people choose how or when they go.
It reminds me of something I’ll occasionally read about called the Death Positive Movement.  Don’t worry - it isn’t a murder cult.  It is a movement around appreciating life, but also accepting that all truly living things must die.  They fight to end the stigma around discussing death.  What death means.  What it looks like.  For a fact of life - death is treated as a taboo subject, which only makes it scarier for people who know it is happening to them.  Death wasn’t wrong for saying most people need a friendly face.  Viewing Death as a gentle voice instead of a scythe wielding cloaked asshole makes the process less scary.  I suggest people read more at orderofthegooddeath.com/death-positive-movement for a good intro to these concepts.
Now for someone with suicide ideation like me - I was grateful that Hob’s story followed the Death story.  Because while Death is inevitable and something to be accepted - we shouldn’t seek it out.  Humans can change.  Society and circumstances can change.  Hob himself went from curious to rich asshole to miserable drunk to slaver to savvy business dude. He improved. He grew and learned.  And the world around him did as well. There is a lesson I found in the order of these two stories.  Death is inevitable and an inevitable part of life (since I highly doubt a real Hob is out there lol), but life itself is equally valuable.  We should treasure every second that we get of it.  As someone with deep traumas and pain, it helped me to see Hob say he “has so much to live for” at his worst moments. We can destigmatize death without hating on life.  Death is a part of life.  John Dee said in episode 5 that all stories going on long enough end with death, but this episode proves that the stories are still worth living out til that last moment.  Our stories all ending in death doesn’t mean everything before that point doesn’t matter. Our purpose is our function and our function is to live til our bodies give out on us in one way or another.

I can’t imagine dealing with a shitty landlord and not instantly becoming communist
You can hate communist regimes all you want but the killing landlords part was 100% valid. Creating a housing crisis by stealing all available homes and causing people to be homeless is actual violence. I’m not crying if some leech dies.
I’m out here working two jobs to always pay my rent and you still wanna fight renewing the lease. Eat a dick, dude. See you in court 🤷🏼‍♀️

Honestly, I can’t even blame my partner for feeling suicidal. Our financial situation is bad. If he can’t get hired then we have no other option outside of suicide. 🤷🏼‍♀️
I have -160 in the bank. Negative... I’m not paid as a teacher thanksgiving week or winter break. We need gas money, cat food and litter, our human food (though that is my last priority honestly - I can skip), and expensive rent to be paid on one fucking salary. Rent is 2000 for us and 700 for our roommate (who makes wayyyy more than us btw). We are thousands in debt from living on credit cards and those are maxed out too.
I’m tired. Frankly I’ll live long enough to see family on thanksgiving, but after that who knows what happens?

Swinging went wrong tonight
it wasn’t til I was done fucking a couple tonight that we found out this fucker was a conservative cop…. I fucked a goddamn pig without realizing. I feel stupid and disgusting.
but another part of me also already got this idiot to share secrets from his job which is super beneficial as an activist. If I stomached how sick the concept makes me feel - I could basically spy on and have blackmail material on a piggy for leftists in my area. That’s hella valuable as a commie/leftist. And tbh I feel dirty and used because I didn’t know til after and I need to get SOMETHING out of this or I’ll feel this gross for no reason at all which doesn’t help me wanting to swing anymore.
I feel sick. Gross. Acab

had plans to travel to my hometown and now I can’t since my partner may have had a stroke awhile back and we ignored it due to not having health insurance and now his arm has been randomly stop working and then I woke up to a homophobic Facebook comment in a damn Baldurs gate 3 group and still have to go to work while rushing back to check at my partner in the hospital later and I just hate how I have to wear a smile at work and be positive when I feel broken. We can’t even get a fucking MRI apparently for my partner yet so god forbid he did have a stroke.
today is a traumatic anniversary of when my dad temporarily paralyzed and almost killed my mom. I’m fucking tired y’all. I’m smiling at work because this kid I work with needs me to, but I feel like my chest is caving in.
