Both Kamado and Volo suck, the difference is that Volo gets sent to gay baby jail and Kamado to “you remind me too much of my shitty dad for me to actually look at your actions from a justified pov” jail.

i'm. suddenly realizing the parallels between sada sacrificing herself for koraidon and florian throwing himself infront of kieran when he's about to get hit by terapagos's tera blast... after everything that happened in area zero, florian was determined to not be like sada. only to do something very similar to what she had done.
i think in that moment — when he's not sure what the end result of his actions will be, if he'll make it out of the underdepths alive — florian starts to understand her a little better. he thinks " oh, that's why she did that. because she didn't want to see something she loved hurt. "

I’M A BAD BITCH YOU CAN’T KILL ME!
hiya! name's Blake. you might recognize me, you might not. rotomblr is confusing with all the multiverse stuff. basically, I'm an ex-champion who's kinda just doing my own thing now. saved the world a few times. met a few gods. y'know, the usual. I even died once! technically. oh, and I’m a university student at Blueberry Academy! mostly here to post about my Pokémon- but my friends Hop and Auberi have access to this blog too, so you might see them on here occasionally.
also!! I have a wonderful partner here’s his blog: @thunderblessedhero I love him sm
that's pretty much all you need to know, I think! signing out!
-Blake
———
Auberi Bellerose- 21, they/them, demisexual/greyromantic
Hop Laventon- 20, he/him, asexual/biromantic
Blake- 20, they/them, pansexual/demiromantic
————
Current Arc: Frozen Over
Summary:
OOC: hi! I’m Wren and uHhh this is my first pkmn RP blog. Originally I was gonna make an Eternatus one but I thought it’d be more fun to make one for my OC,, but I might still make the  Eternatus one if this one goes well. my main pkmn blog is @xgoldenlatiasx (but i like and follow from @/flightmare-kid)
(update: prolly not gonna make the Eternatus blog lol. for right now at least. I have enough blogs as it is now)
also: in-character mean interactions are welcome. beat their ass
other rp blogs: @thunderblessedhero @partnersintime @scarlet-rider @pokehorsegirl @bisharpenjoyer @dragontamerhiccup @coolguyhilbert @keldeochamp1on @weirdcelebi @sapphireseafarer @justanothercastelian
Warnings: things won’t get TOO extremely dark or serious on this blog for now, there will be a lot of swearing though. Also all the characters are around 19-20, there won’t ever be anything explicit but they’ll probably make stupid dick jokes at worst. Specifically Blake and probably Auberi sometimes. I’ll tag stuff like that as #tw nsfw joke and/or #tw suggestive.
Info about my OC:
basically Blake is my protag in several pkmn games, specifically SW/SH, X/Y, and B/W! the timeline of those games’ stories are in that specific order in my OCverse. (Pretty much any semblance of a canon timeline in the games is destroyed in my OCverse, except for any games w/ sequels like Gen1/Gen2 or BW/BW2. I’ll probably put together a proper timeline eventually, but essentially it’s just in the order I played all the games. Rn that order is FRLG -> HGSS -> SM -> ORAS -> SWSH -> XY -> DPPT/BDSP -> BW -> PLA -> SV -> BW2)
Bio: Blake was born in Nuvema Town, where they lived until they were around seven before moving to Aspertia City. They lived there until they were about thirteen, before moving to Postwick in the Galar region with their mother. There, they met one of their best friends, Hop. At the time, Blake was super closed off and shy, as their social anxiety made making friends difficult. The only one they’ve ever really let their guard down with was Hop. Watching Leon’s matches on TV with Hop was what inspired them to become a trainer, though for many years they didn’t actually think it’d be possible for them- considering they came from a family who didn’t really like Pokemon, therefore they had nowhere near as much experience with them like Hop did. They feared their social anxiety would get in the way, too.
Once they were 16, they unexpectedly got their first Pokemon from Leon- a Sobble named Kappa. After getting endorsed by Leon and some encouragement from Hop, they agreed to sign up for the Gym Challenge. They had a rocky start- losing battles pretty frequently was putting a huge dent in their already low self-esteem, and it was impacting Kappa as well. But over time they learned the ropes of being a trainer and was quickly becoming a rising star amongst the Gym Challengers. They went on to stop the Darkest Day along with Hop, catch Eternatus, become champion, and earn the trust of Zacian.
During their reign as champion, they trained at the Isle of Armor and explored the Crown Tundra. These small adventures slowly helped them realize just how much pressure their title was putting on them- and finally caused them to slip up during the final match of the next year’s Gym Challenge.
After losing their title, they decided to look for a new path- which lead them to Kalos, where they helped in putting a stop to Team Flare’s plan and caught Yveltal, and eventually back to Unova, where they fought against Team Plasma alongside Reshiram. Following the defeat of Plasma, they’ve enrolled as a college student at Blueberry Academy- and have done quite a lot in the past two years, such as visiting the Paldea region and catching more Pokémon. Now, they’ve returned to Unova, and are resting after having helped in the fight against Kyurem.
Blake is also the main character in my comics, Adventures in Kalos (on my instagram @/xgolden_latiasx) and Unova Fates (on Tumblr, insta, and webtoon). This blog will probably contain spoilers for those comics!
More rules/info/explanations/etc.:
All three of these characters are friends with multiple legendaries, so if they seem overpowered to you… sorry? I’m just having fun over here. They don’t really use any of them for battle that often, though they might threaten to sic their legendary on someone as a joke (but they won’t actually). But as of right now the only legendary that’s actively with the group is Reshiram, he’s the only one who’ll get involved in whatever shenanigans/event the gang finds themselves in. (Unless I’m participating in an event from another person and they say they don’t want Reshiram involved.)
I’m relatively willing to join in on high stakes stuff as long as I feel up to it, but please ask me first if you want one of my characters to actively participate somehow.
Also, this blog runs with the idea that Rotomblr is a weird site that links other universes together. So for example say if… Kalos is blowing up or something on another person’s blog and someone tries to get Auberi involved, I’m just going to say it’s happening in a different universe. Or if a different SWSH/XY/BW/PLA protag character tries to interact.
Please also understand that I have realllllly bad social anxiety and awkwardness. I apologize if it takes me a while to respond to something, or if my replies seem short and uninterested (I promise I’m interested in the conversation I’m just bad at words). Or long and ramble-y. Please tell me to shut the fuck up if you need me to.
Past arcs/plot lines:
#Storyline: Haunting Regrets (Explanation of Auberi’s past)
#Story Event: The Calm Before The Storm (Set up for a future arc)
#Story Arc: The Press Conference (This arc was discontinued, but I didn’t really feel like going back and deleting all the tags so it IS still canon but nothing important happened.)
#Typing Through Time (Mini event where a pair of mysterious siblings, supposedly from the future, take over the blog to document their search for a special Celebi.)
#Interlude Arc (BW2 event.)
#PB Takeover (Takeover of a version of Blake that joined Team Plasma.)

( Legendverse) Red and Green(protag) stuff
Red
Compared to Blue and Green as kids, he was much more ( genuinely) polite and responsible ( as responsible as a child can be anyway).
This doesn't mean he doesn't get himself into mischief. Either bc Blue or Green dragged him into a mess or he specifically thought something was a challenge that he was going to beat, he tends to get into more trouble than it's worth. It's fine though bc he's very polite :)
LIVES for the outdoors. Protag Trait of literally disappearing on people, only to be found in some forest camping( he has gotten better at letting people know of this tho). Really good at foraging and stuff.
I wasn't totally sure of the Professor! Red before, but seeing so many of it, I think it's neat :) He already likes pokemon and does want to understand them more. He could get his PhD like Blue ( who. Honestly doesn't really use it much-) but. That means going to school. Red loves to learn, but he is very weary of the school system. Maybe one day though. Battling is still his biggest passion, of course, I just think it would be something cool for him to do on the side.
Going with the above, I think he would really like what Beryl has done with the johto safari zone. Turning it into a rehabilitation area for pokemon essentially. I think he would help around the place pre- battle tower.
Tying into his love of learning- when blue and green leave for Kalos I just imagine Red being. So board. And lonely. He's no longer fearing the public as much as he used too, and constantly training doesn't have the exact same appeal as it did before ( bc he's no longer alone on top of a mountain). So he honestly just tries learning shit. He is the King of useless facts now. Cooking, knitting, crafting, you name it. Yes, Green has tried to make a profit from this. No, Red hasn't sold anything.
Like. Okay Red isn't like a master of these things, I should add. The most he's extremely good at is camping, battling, and cooking. Everything else is just decent.
He doesn't know how to feel about being Chosen. Especially so late into the game. Apparently, mew was supposed to Choose him when he started his journey....but forgot. It wasn't until SM until Mew did Choose him and by that point it felt. Pointless??? He suppose he's grateful, since he thinks being Chosen at such a young age would have been. Very bad for his mental state ( which makes him feel bad for a lot of the other Chosens after him), but like. It just continues to put him in some sort of pedestal that he doesn't want. He could ask mew to just. Unchoose him but....he doesn't know. Mew is nice though. A gremlin that doesn't give clear instructions yes, but still nice.
Green
Was always kinda blunt, even as a kid. Surprising bc she's also a skilled liar. No one knows how or when she got into scamming people ( who deserved it) or how she got so interested in money, but she is and we all have to deal with it.
Being younger and, well, a girl, Blue used to try and not have her come along with him and Red on their adventures ( Red didn't mind Green coming along, in fact he liked her company). Green would kick Blue's kneecaps for that. She would get scolded for it, but so would Blue for excluding Green out, so it's a win. She comes up with way more fun games than Blue anyway.
Is in the middle of the road in terms of talkativeness. Blue is definitely the one who does the talking most times, but Green isn't shy from it herself. In fact she's pretty talkative too, just not as much as Blue. Still, she can be also pretty quiet like Red. I think these two have a cute friendship, but I gotta work out the details. Tbf, they are protags lol. Protags gotta stick together.
Like Red, has the Protag Trait of just disappearing and doing her own shit. Unlike Red, is probably worse at telling people about it. Where's Green? Wouldn't you like to know, weather boy.
I've ultimately decided that Green is a cave fanatic. She just loves cave spelunking that much. She's not even looking for shit to sell, she just likes caves.
She was the only one that actually completed her pokedex....okay no. I'm sure Red and Blue did eventually, but Green was the first, as always. Red was under pressure from being champion to do anything and Blue was in his feelings, so leave it to Green to buckle down and get the damn pokedex done ( also to alleviate the loneliness of her two friends drifting apart and kinda leaving her behind even more)
Honestly it is just traveling now. Going into caves, battling strong trainers if she wants to, scheming all the way. I like the idea of her becoming world champion but I don't know if that's possible in my au yet. We'll see.
She grew taller out of spite btw. She was the shortest of the trio and she didn't like that, especially bc Blue would tease her for it, so she willed herself to be taller. Not even Mewtwo knows if the Chosen powers were at play here.
Speaking of Mewtwo, yeah she got it. She's the Chosen of it. Mewtwo shouldn't be able to Choose being a man made pokemon, but it did so out of spite and honestly? Good for them.
Sometimes I think Green genuinely forgets she's a Chosen. Like actually. The only thing that actively reminds herself that she is one is that she has powers now and she can live when Mewtwo fucking yeets her into the sky ( this is a fun bonding activity).
During the johto arc, Green was in Johto, staying with Bill's family. Why? I haven't fully fleshed it out, but I think it's a matter of her just not wanting to be at home anymore. That's the baseline of it. She's probably helping Bill with some stuff in return. Green during this time was angsty and angry, so her powers ( or what was unlocked at the time) would tend to flare up when she's pissed. Though, given that she's still very new to bring Chosen, they are unreliable as ever. So. More on her plate, I guess.
Green and cooking is an interesting case. I don't think she's bad. Maybe she's pretty good. But uh. The girl lives off protein shakes and granola bars. If not that: meat( sorry Red). So it's probably less of that "Green can't cook" bc she can, and more of " Green can cook but is choosing not too".
I haven't talked about the whole " Green being forgotten from the narrative despite accomplishing so much" here and that's only bc I want to take a closer look at that on my own time. I still think it's true but I want to like it. Map it out better, if that makes sense.
Green going to Kalos with Blue is for two reasons: Shopping ( Blue and Green are The Shopping Duo) and Caves. Oh and mega evolution so three. Unlike Blue though, she ain't studying shit ( okay she does a little) and spends most of her time doing Arceus' knows what. I think it would be funny if both Green and Blue gained several exes in their time in Kalos but that has yet to be determined.
Green and Blue are actually siblings in my au, so if you're wondering why I'm grouping them together so much, that's why.
Has a lil ditto :3 Is less used for battles and more so for schemes and is in general a friend that's happy to be there :]

For the send "me a character"
How about dusknoir
send me a character!
putting this under the cut since it got super long oops.
first impression
first saw him in platinum circa. 8-9 years old so it was just "whoa. cool ghost pokemon"
impression now
i like him so much. i've gone on page long tangents about this guy to friends multiple times. he is such a good character and the idea of a grim reaper terrified of his own mortality is such a sick concept. he has so much guilt and emotional baggage and i like him so much
favorite moment
DEFINITELY HIS DYING WORDS. i just think they're beautifully translated in ENG ("my life... did it shine?" "yes. extraordinarily.") to the point where translating his japanese dying words was the first translation project i did.
idea for a story
my long-term pipe dream project is definitely the future trio hack i work on sometimes, which will attempt to tie them into the post-game darkrai arc and give resolution to both their baggage and the note grovyle and protag left on.
but besides that, i'd definitely want to write something where he and the other two of the future trio were previously friends, and even looking for the time gears before realizing they'd disappear— and his following betrayal.
i'm a sucker for stories about otherwise good relationships deteriorating due to terrible, outside circumstances.
unpopular opinion
i honestly stay pretty isolated so i don't... super know how he's commonly interpreted nowadays. he's my poor yorick
favorite relationship
i think about his parallels with partner a lot. besides his baggage with the rest of the trio i'd most love to explore that side of their dynamic: past cowardice as the main hurdle towards achieving their goals, their leaders' trust in them, and how their leaders changed their lives for the better.
favorite headcanon
prior to meeting grovyle and protag, dusknoir was an ordinary human and friends with celebi. he first died protecting celebi from primal dialga and became a duskull/dusclops.
his fear of death is only further exacerbated by not only the violent nature of his first death, but also the idea that if he dies (again) there's no coming back from that.
eventually after meeting grovyle and protag (with the protag being a little kid, and grovyle essentially being their guardian), the group sought out the time gears as a solution to the paralyzed future. but as mentioned above, after learning what would happen if they went through with it, dusknoir would betray them due to the fear of experiencing death again, for good this time.

3. Favorite moment?
Too many favorite moments.... augh. if I had to narrow down though it'd be the Bad Future Melanie Confrontation/Game. Amazing character development for Melia, more insight on Madame X. Also nice to see Kenneth when he isn't Tormented. I love Bad Future dearly it gives me worms. Its more oc centered on that so i'll spare u the details. Canon wise though i Love how Protag (placeholder name) and Melia essentially fuck up and see the consequence. also gives a lot more shadiness to Tiempa and Spacea's way of working. I will also say a close second is the Execution of said TIempa and Spacea. Chills.
8. Favorite Family Dynamic?
Amber and Tesla.... wehhh......... though i think thats like the only poignant Actual Blood Family dynamic in the case from my knowledge. but found family wise its the entire Gang. they are all found family :] Jenner and Melia was genuinely one of the few dynamics that also got me though. I miss you Jenner...... I think it would be funny to see more Zetta and Melia though since they are technically family. We could have had it all....
18. What pokemon you initially didn't care about until playing Rejuvenation? (Or Current Team or Both.)
Xenon my Baby. Hisuian zoroark always struck me as a cool design but now he's grown to be a vital part of my (and by character Mona's) team just for having good typing, which could bait fighting or ghost moves, only to fast sweep or curse an enemy boss. thats my baby. Also Whisper my Meowstic! Haven't used him much in Mona's playthrough but in my first run he was extremely vital for survivability with his screens. also his little quest was so cute......
and because im a sucker for showing off my team i'll show Mona's team Box anyways. With the ones they used the most. Not my first run cause while I love them they are also All Over the Place and share similarities. (Yes I did pick up Delpha which basically carried me in the V fight.) You can see my strats are usually glass cannons and status maneuvers lmao.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
23. Favorite Sidequest?
MISSING CHILDREN. Fascinating fascinating implications with Dylan Ana and V. excellent buildup, Ana is such a good character ( i miss her) and Dylan is such a jaded Guy i need to hammer him. I hope I get to battle him when he's a bit fucked up because i love unhinged fights in stories dearly. V is also super interesting I want to know more about their schtick and role as an Interceptor. If i had a close second..... Probably..... I guess the optional Nancy Fight with that. RLLY annoying boss chandelure. Cause it was such a challenge. The first time though I absolutely winged it 10 lvls below but the second time.... i'm not repeating all of that so I just waited and then swept lmao. its such a good challenge boss though i love thinking on my feet.

Richass for 001, any PLA character of your choice for 002!
when I started shipping it if I did: when Kris sat me down and was like 'y'know richass isn't really all that bad' and she pointed out exactly how it would work and why it would work and i was like 'oh no it's perfect i ship it now too'
my thoughts: I really want to draw more of them and write more about them and like the ship is so good??? Like there's the dash of angst from both their parts, Richard has at least attempted to murder Asbel at least once, and at the same time they're both so hopeful and working towards a better future and being a source of support for one another and their friendship has been something that they believed in even though everything was trying to tear them apart and-- god the ship writes itself honestly
What makes me happy about them: constant support from each other on both their sides, both understanding the other's issues at least post game, both going to the ends of the world for the other, both having such a mutual respect towards one another, them starting out using the other as a crutch but then slowly evolved past that to realize that they can be their own people and drawing strength from their bond in a healthier fashion... and then the constant silliness you can imagine with them what with Richard being Richard and Asbel being dumb as bricks im sorry
What makes me sad about them: That they aren't canon? I guess????
things done in fanfic that annoys me: I don't know hm. Man I read anything richass at this point because this is graces fandom and we are desperate
things I look for in fanfic: I'd love for a fic that emphasizes how unhealthy they were for each other at the start of the game and how they evolved to become better people that can support each other properly towards the end of the game. either that or anything funny with Richard running circles around Asbel RIP. Or Lambda being their surprisingly adopted son i guess???
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Lambda yes i know i ship everyone with Lambda, you asked I'm also partial to Cheribel, Cherichard, and I can live with Richsoph if it comes down to it
My happily ever after for them: That they recover from the stuff they were put through growing up and end up rebuilding Windor and leading the country/world to peace and prosperity and Richard gets to spend his days in Lhant in his husband's embrace while their child rules in peace and harmony?
who is the big spoon/little spoon: Switch depending on who needs the comfort the most :')
what is their favorite non-sexual activity: working through Richard's issues travelling the world in peace and harmony and just enjoying each other's presence away from the burdens of their responsibilities where they can indulge in their love for one another
Answering Volo for 002 so y'know spoilers abound underneath cut
How I feel about this character: I laugh at him because he is essentially Richard Tales of Graces but also I feel like it was really smart of Arceus to publicize him as Cynthia's ancestor and then turn around and make him the big bad doing exactly what Cyrus wanted to do like it definitely would have surprised baby me if I wasn't smarter and suspicious of everything under the sun now
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Eh can I say Cogita? I MEAN I HAVE REALLY NO IDEA HOW OLD SHE IS BUT THEY HAVE A CLOSE BOND, THEY BOTH LOOK LIKE CYNTHIA, SHE HAS A REALLY FUNNY DYNAMIC WITH HIM-- Other than that maybe protag?? LIKE MY DUDE WAS NICE AND SUPPORTIVE AND HELPED PROTAG EVEN IF IT WAS JUST TO FURTHER HIS ENDS BUT COME ON THEY ACTUALLY BONDED RIGHT??? RIGHT????
My non-romantic OTP for this character: Giratina hands down :') Love me some deal and empathy with Pokemon satan to conquer Pokemon god
My unpopular opinion about this character: His final hair cut sucks like WHAT THE HELL MY DUDE YOU HAD SUCH NICE FLOWING LOCKS PLEASE OWN THEM
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Please give us more of your backstory apart from 'I suffered :( so now I want to destroy and remake the world after making a deal with satan' like what were you suffering from my dude and ALSO ARE YOU JUST AS LONG LIVED AS COGITA ARE YOU GOING TO BE AROUND FOR CENTURIES
my OTP: i GUESS COGITA BECAUSE LIKE... IF CYNTHIA'S HIS DESCENDENT I WANT SOME SANITY IN THAT BLOODLINE OK
my cross over ship: CyrusxVolo just for the shits and giggles
a headcanon fact: volo's people were wiped out by invaders so he struggled for years until he was found by Ginter who raised him but was very emotionally distant and the only person Volo attempted to bond with is Cogita because she has a Common Interest even though he's like just using her to further his own ends

what’s up i spent way too long typing up a post about my thoughts on P5S, and it isn’t even all encompassing. i guess if you’re curious about anything i didn’t mention in this trainwreck just ask.
my spoiler-heavy thoughts/pseudo-review below the cut
THINGS I LIKED:
The characterization, broadly speaking. If you, like me, loved the Thieves in P5/P5R then you’ll be pretty happy with them here. There are a couple moments that made me roll my eyes (lookin’ at you, hot springs) but on the whole, the main cast are unchanged.
The new characters. Sophia and Zenkichi are great. Sophia is precious and Zenkichi straddles a very fine line of ‘realistically out of the loop, but gives as good as he gets.’ I don’t even care how silly their costumes were. Sophie looked like the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man, though I did like her little emoticon visor, but also she had no pants. Wolf’s mask was badass but the fact that his stupid pointy hat was riveted to the top of his stupid disco high collar killed it and I wanted to see someone grab his hat and pull it back to see it fling back into place like a drinky-drinky bird. Even so, the characters were great, and when I noticed that all the attacks for Sophie’s initial pseudo-Persona had question marks after them (Kouga? Dia?), it made me laugh, and Wolf’s a good all-purpose party member because he hits like a fucking truck and nothing is immune to Almighty. Plus in some of his post-battle dialogue he calls them all ‘kiddos’ and they consistently call him Gramps.
The gameplay. I mean, yeah, it’s VERY different than P5, but you all know that. And hey! The game no longer immediately ends if Joker gets knocked out (unless he’s the only one left in the party, obviously). It ran pretty smoothly, there’s something weirdly charming about the other Thieves showing up perched on cover points, and the only consistent issue I ran into is that in segments where the camera gets forced into a certain angle, it can switch back so abruptly at the end that you accidentally go walking right off a ledge.
I’ve never really played a Dynasty Warriors-type game before, so it took me a Jail or so to get used to it, but then I was just cackling as I mowed down swarms of Jack Frosts like a weed-whacker in a flower field with a knife the size of Joker’s torso. Honestly, it took me the longest to get used to the fact that the circle button became the all-purpose ‘interact’ button than anything else.
Actually, that’s a lie. It took me the longest to get used to the fact that if I left a Jail, I wouldn’t be losing any time. I’m very used to Persona games having the calendar constantly counting down, which wasn’t the case here.
The story, broadly speaking. It had some hiccups and some issues, which I’ll get into, but for the most part, it was fun. I’m...not going to outline every detail of the story here, but it felt very P5-y and I enjoyed it.
THINGS I LIKED BUT THAT NEEDED WORK:
The writing. It was a little inconsistent, beyond just the usual weirdness that I have accepted comes along with Persona games. (//patiently clicks through numerous conversations of the gang going ‘did this super obvious thing that this memory threw in our faces happen? Let’s debate about whether the most likely answer by a huge margin is the answer’ and several conversations of ‘are we sure this person is bad? We saw them playing nice, like literally every other villain we’ve faced’) A lot was great! Like, the bit with the Okinawa locals breaking into the RV while the kids hide in the bushes? Genuinely unsettling! Akane’s Jail and the fake Thieves was fun, and seeing Zenkichi scuttle from hiding place to hiding place without Thief powers was funny, and his Shadow’s glowing eyes watching him before becoming his Persona was both badass and unsettling. The realization that EMMA was actively lying to Konoe was nice. Character interactions were great and I loved that Sophia went with Ichinose at the end. There was a lot that was good. But there were also a lot of missteps.
Like, it kind of felt like the direction for the writing changed partway through. It started out as if each member of the Phantom Thieves was going to get their own time to shine, identifying and empathizing with a Monarch. Ann realized she could have been Alice. Yusuke realized he could have been Ango and also saw redeeming him as sort of like redeeming Madarame by proxy. Mariko was a link to Haru’s childhood and her father. The ghost Jail on Okinawa lured Sophie in and by the end she realized how much she meant to her friends ryuji said fuck. Akane was Zenkichi’s literal daughter. And then it went to Konoe and then EMMA, so Ryuji, Futaba, Morgana, Makoto, and Joker didn’t get a chance to shine in that regard. The switch from ‘a Jail for everyone to identify with’ to ‘whelp here’s the decoy and the end boss’ felt like they came from two separate drafts of the script, and it’s not like they had to watch the time; I got through P5S in about a third the time it took me to get through P5R. It took me about 35 hours. Considering the game kind of relies on you having played P5, they already knew their target audience has a longer attention span than that.
Owada was talked up as kind of a big deal, but he had like two scenes on-screen and otherwise was an entirely off-screen character. There’s a lot of mid-combat dialogue that is very difficult to focus on, which was sort of annoying when some of it was actually relevant. Ichinose’s reveal as a villain is very info-dump-y.
Plus, Joker wasn’t utilized particularly well as a silent protagonist. He’s got more implied personality than basically any other Persona protag. Which means he’s actually pretty expressive throughout the game, but I can probably count his lines of dialogue outside of combat with fingers left over. No one expects Yu Narukami to actually react to anything, so it doesn’t feel odd when he doesn’t. But the combination of Joker being reasonably expressive and having a demonstrated personality means you’re perpetually EXPECTING and WANTING him to say something about the shit going on, and when he doesn’t it feels like mentally missing a stair.
THINGS THAT I DIDN’T LIKE:
The cut corners. Like, a lot of things just seem lazy. There were scenes that really should have been included that weren’t, like how the Thieves escaped from the hotel after the police showed up; it cut from Zenkichi warning them and getting arrested to them arriving at the temporary hideout, so we never even got to see how the Thieves reacted to realizing the cops were outside. Requests to bond with the other Thieves only got a couple of text boxes, when they could have shown a tiny scene of them hanging out like they had all over P5. Rather than having Sae actually on-screen for her brief scene, the camera instead very unnaturally switched to an angle as if it was from her point of view, which was literally the only time the camera did that in the entire game. All of the Sentries look the same from Jail to Jail, instead of being unique to each Jail. Igor is completely absent for the entire game, and other than a throwaway ‘my master can’t be here’ from Lavenza it’s just not really acknowledged.
The missed opportunities. Like, there is no way to look at this except to assume that Joker was a horrible friend to literally everyone in this world state. Like, I can pass off the fact that everyone has their baseline Personae as being because they haven’t had access to their powers for a while, but when you combine it with the fact that NONE of Joker’s other confidants show up or even know he’s back in Tokyo, it leaves little to assume except that in this world, no confidants got maxed out. On top of that, the Personae are all basically pointless. They could be Pokemon or Stands or Digimon or fucking YuGiOh cards, and it wouldn’t make a difference; NOTHING about the game says ‘these entities are integral to this world and important to these characters.’ Also they could have had Akane actually realize who the Thieves were and it would have been hysterical, but that’s just my personal sulk.
The Requests. I liked the Mementos missions in P5/P5R. They felt like they had a point. Requests in P5S are all basically just fetch quests. ‘Go to Location A, fight so many of Enemy B to get so many of Item C. Turn in Request.’ Hell, one of them bugged out on me, I swear. There’s a Request to teach Zenkichi how to cook a simple meal, and Haru gives you a recipe including beef. I had no beef on me at the time, because if you want SP restoratives you gotta cook a fair amount and I used it, and I could find literally no beef in the city I was in at the time so I had to abandon the Request. On top of that, outside of getting food or a few moments where another character specifically asks for Joker’s attention, character-specific Requests mostly replace the ability to bond with the other characters individually.
The restoratives. Or, more specifically, the disparity between HP restoratives and SP restoratives. There’s essentially one cookable recipe to restore SP for every four recipes to restore HP. Even if I stopped at every store and vending machine, I’m pretty sure there were a couple cities where I could find NO SP restoratives for sale, while most stores and vending machines had at least two or three HP restoratives. And while it is true that you can go in and out of a Jail whenever you please to restore SP, that doesn’t help you if you run out during a boss fight you weren’t expecting (mini-boss encounters are virtually identical to regular monster encounters) or during one of the times where you CAN’T leave the Jail for reasons XYZ.
The final boss, and not just because I died and had to start over a few times. As a concept, EMMA could be cool, but in reality she just seemed like the writers threw Yaldabaoth and Maruki in a blender and poured the results into the game. Like Yaldabaoth, she is a false god who seeks to control humanity, claiming it’s what they want. Like Maruki, she seems genuinely deluded into thinking it’s for the best and that she’s not doing anything wrong. Her Jail looked like a slightly sci-fi reskin of the Depths of Mementos. The shtick with the multiple platforms and getting to actually SEE an all-out attack at the end were nice, but for the most part the fight itself was nothing special. Ultimately, EMMA had nothing unique going for her except her name.
Plus, EMMA’s entire rationale was that the majority of humans want someone else to control their lives for them, essentially out of convenience. And she’s presented as being more or less right, but that just being one of the hurdles of being human. It seemed a little dour and far-fetched. Like, the Thieves repeatedly point out that struggling allows people to grow, and they’re right, but in my experience, I’ve never actually met anyone who, upon hitting a roadblock, decided ‘Jesus take the wheel.’ Considering the greed with which her weird tentacle arms snatched up the solidified Desires, the pettiness of the complaints she used as a “gotcha,” and the fact that she just kind of reiterates her ‘people want to be controlled’ point over and over, I think it would have felt a bit more true to life and given her more agency if, instead of presenting her as largely correct, it instead acknowledged that everyone at some time or another hits a wall and wants someone to tell them what to do and had her capitalizing on those individual brief moments to hook people in, despite her having reams of data that for most people, those moments are temporary.

idk if its been said before but i genuinely cant stand when people try to argue that archie was trying to do shit for the good of humanity. ive seen him portrayed that way and its like? what would give u that idea? absolutely nothing in either rse or oras ever suggests he wanted that lmao... he cares about the wellbeing of water pokemon immensely and that is his canonical driving force, he doesnt give a shit whether the damage from kyogre kills the entirety of humanity and he explicitly states it AND its his endgame anyway since he says that humanity are essentially ruining the world for pokemon. hes not heartless by any means and he loves his team to bits!! BUT he has a huge dream and he views the general public as an obstacle to it. hes a loveable character and really charismatic (moreso in oras id argue) who is super multilayered but his driving force has nothing to do with liking people at all lmao, even if it would be fitting to his personality to think that. i feel like it undermines his entire character to think that its the case? it may be the case for the grunts but if anything theyre mainly just ocean enthusiasts and jolly dumbasses who enjoy the kinship of team aqua and if anything i doubt they wouldve been told the deeper layer of the plan as even shelly tried to advise archie against going ahead with it after doing her research at the weather institute. she also says (oras)"cant you see that the world you dream of and the world that kyogre will create are two completely different places?!" to archie showing that he absolutely has not been honest to even her about his actual intentions, and they have a friendship that goes back yeeears. he's only told her the superficial truth of his plan not the bit thats like weelll-i-also-kinda-wanna-kill-everyone lmao.. BUT LIKE THIS ENTIRE THING brings on the question of WHY DOES HE SUDDENLY CHANGE HIS MIND SO QUICKLY WHEN IT COMES TO IT??? it makes absolutely no sense going along with his meticulous work to ensure his plan works and that nobody gets in the way of it AND on top of that he manages to pull it off (in sapphire/alpha sapphire canon). one minute hes basking in the glory of wahoo i did it boys and then the next hes begging to protag to fix everything?? i really doubt its because he suddenly realised people are actually worth saving cause that makes absolutely no sense. generations does a brilliant job in visually showing how destructive kyogre truly is for both people AND pokemon. i have 0 doubt that he realised as hoenn and its pokemon were being fucking ripped to shreds by kyogre that hed made a huge mistake. but not only this, im pretty sure he wouldve felt guilty as hell seeing how panicked his his admins and team were and wouldve felt guilty as all hell for lying to them and also manipulating them to help him achieve his dream. i think thats why when hes saying (oras) "save us... the world... and kyogre" to the protag hes truly referring to himself and his team (potentially the protag) when he says 'us', 'the world' being pokemon and the nature they live in and kyogre as in save it from its primal reverted state. SO YEA i absolutely refuse to believe he was ever doing it for humans, even after he changes his mind!! TLDR: archie never liked people and didnt even in the aftermath of kyogre stop portraying him like that i BEG

as someone who hasn't watched pokeani but loves seeing you talk about it... who's paul?
sweet jesus. also, ‘i dont watch pokeani but explain it to me’ asks are my favourite so THANK YOU.
paul was this rival ash had who was hilarious foreshadowing of the competitive pokemon scene. and i DO mean foreshadowing–he debuted in the gen where competitive online play did as well. paul’s like, introductory scene is him catching like 3 starly and releasing the two with the shittier IVs. like that’s how youre introduced to him.
he’s meant to be a stark contrast to ash’s follow-your-heart-and-be-a-ray-of-sunshine style. ash is a bright eyed protag who befriends everyone who breathes near him and raises his pokemon based on strategy rather than strength, advantage, etc. paul just sees pokemon for their inherent strength. theyre the typical karen player/smogon player aesthetic, long before it existed.
paul isn’t like, a terrible dude to his pokemon generally, but one sole exception puts a pretty glaring blemish on his overall character–chimchar.
paul encounters this wild chimchar who’s literally backed onto the edge of a cliff by this pack of zangoose, and in its weak and stressed out state, its ability blaze activates and it unleashes a decently powerful hit on the offending pokemon and manages to escape them. he sees this and catches it, impressed with its strength. he quickly learns, however, that chimchar isn’t... always like that? blaze only activates when fire pokemon are on their last legs, that’s the whole point. they have to reach a certain threshhold of pain to get stronger.
so paul is like... oh that’s no problem. i’ll just create that threshhold myself.
most, if not all of his ‘training,’ involves throwing his other pokemon at chimchar and pushing this young pokemon to its absolute limits to the point of collapse. chimchar is literally traumatized from its encounter with the zangoose, it has a morbid fear of all zangoose, and paul is insistent on recreating that trauma as often as possible in the hopes it will bring out chimchar’s strength.
for most of the time paul & chimchar share screentime, paul constantly calls chimchar weak and a disappointment. he does this for about 50 episodes before outright abandoning chimchar entirely, releasing it back to the wild. ash, who has been watching paul abuse this pokemon for quite a while, asks chimchar if it would like to be his pokemon, instead. paul makes sure to let them know this arrangement is perfect, as they are ‘both worthless scum.’
ash takes chimchar under his wing and raises it. what i personally find to be the most chilling and true to life scene in chimchar’s entire arc, ash lets it out of its pokeball to eat and play with all their other pokemon, and chimchar starts outright bawling. it sees how happy all these pokemon are, how much their trainers love them. how they’re fed, and playing, and smiling, and having fun--and how that is okay, encouraged even. chimchar literally starts sobbing because it hits it all at once that this is the life it could have been living all this time. it’s hard to watch. it’s one of the realest abuse survival stories i have ever seen, and it’s from a children’s anime, and the victim is a small baby monkey that can shoot fire out of its ass.
it’s not subtle. it’s on the nose and it’s about abuse.
ash raises chimchar all the way to its final evolution, infernape. infernape takes on paul at the league. the resolution to this arc is when its about to faint against paul’s last pokemon, and as its vision is blurring, paul calls it pathetic and weak one final time. it rises to its feet, the music kicks up, it gathers all its strength, and it absolutely crushes the last of his team, earning ash the win.
this whole arc is, essentially, the pokemon equivalent of the news stories you hear. of a beaten dog on trial because it tore out its abusive owner’s throat.
paul is an abuser. and abusers can be written well, abusers can be redeemed. paul isn’t. for the entire show, when paul is actively abusing this pokemon, even the wisest of characters (sideyeing brock, mostly) continuously comment on the fact that paul “just has a different training style!” they never punish him, or demonize him, or outright SAY that what he’s doing is unforgivable, unacceptable. they laugh him off as someone who is “just a little more strict!” than someone like ash. throughout the entire arc, ash is the only person who seems to really possess the vitriol paul deserves--and ash is more or less quietly shut down by his older, more level-headed friends the entire time. brock is telling him WAY too often to “consider where paul is coming from” and shit in that vein. there is no consideration to be had. paul’s an abuser.
the closest thing paul gets to punishment from the narrative for being an abuser is that he loses at the league to two people he spent the entire show calling weak and useless. other than that one moment at the end, his actions rarely have negative consequences. he is allowed to flourish and grow stronger and is rarely knocked down a peg. ash and team rocket are the only people who really denounce him at all. his exit from the series is similarly underwhelming. him and ash have a moment where ash is far too forgiving of him, and paul leaves without much word.
to make matters worse, the pokeani fandom is equally content to ignore all this. if you mention paul is an abuser, you’re usually just laughed at and told to stop exaggerating. if you bring up the very real trauma you watch his pokemon go through, you’re told to stop projecting and making everything grimdark. the people who DO acknowledge that paul’s abusive rarely do it without tacking on a ‘he’s just a kid.’ to the end of it. which is fair, he is, but that doesn’t mean the damage he did goes away.
all this being said, paul is an INCREDIBLY compelling rival. my favourite pokeani character is ALSO abusive. my favourite pokeani rival literally spends his entire time onscreen making a sweet little girl half his age cry just because he’s an insecure trainwreck with a bruised ego. abusive does not equal irredeemable, unlikable, etc. i honestly am not surprised at how many fans paul has, because without him DP would be WAY weaker of a series--he MAKES it. i love the ways he infuriates me and makes my blood boil. i love to hate paul. the more i hate him, the more satisfying it is when ash DOES destroy him at the league.
so, ‘paul fan’ doesn’t really make any alarm bells go off in my head. but when you start calling yourself ‘paul apologist’.... like. i’m not interested. i do not want to be your friend, i do not want to interact with you. nothing, literally NOTHING can justify the shit he did in his time on the show. he traumatized an innocent creature that relied on him to keep it safe, and healthy, and happy.
if your favourite character has done bad things, and you love that character, you should be the last person to be an apologist for those bad things. you should be the first to acknowledge, to analyze, to craft scenarios on where they go from there, or to know they’re terrible and enjoy them for what they are.
if you ask me, apologists & stans are probably the worst ‘fans.’

First Impressions of Gen 8 so far
People care about my opinions, right? Either way, here I am shouting them out to the world anyway.
The Region: Galar
This one’s relatively special for me, because the half of my family on my dad’s side is all British, and we always take a trip over to visit his family every other year (since we’ve lived in Florida basically all my life), so I hope to see a lot of familiar sights in this region. Obviously Big Ben and all that, but the town most of his family lives in is super tiny and cute, I hope the starting towns are going to be very similar to that. There’s even this little walk to a cavern very close to there that we always go to, so it would be super cool if something like that were in the games (although, they’d have to omit all the swearing and swastikas that were spray painted onto there)
Apart from that, obviously people are worried about these games being super linear because the region just looks that way, but honestly... if you’ve been playing Pokemon at all, you know that the shape of the region doesn’t make it linear. It will probably always be linear, and personally I’m okay with that. I remember playing through Firered, and getting annoyed at either not knowing where to go and having to look it up, or doing things slightly out of order, meaning my Pokemon would be either over or underleveled for the thing I had to do. I do sometimes just want to coast along, training and battling Pokemon. Maybe they’ll make an open world spinoff one day, but as it stands I can enjoy the usual formula.
Speaking of usual, Gyms are back! I did enjoy Trials, but I think Gyms can scratch the same itch with just a little bit of tweaking. That is, maybe the Leaders can all be a two-on-one battle, so they can more intricate strategies. Also, maybe the Gyms themselves can involve subsequent battles, so you can’t just knock out one trainer, heal, and easily knock out the next one. I mean, here I am just trying to adhere to what other people probably want. Honestly, I’m okay with how it was, and wouldn’t be mad at it staying that way. It was slightly more engaging when the Totem Pokemon had a more special strategy, such as the Chlorophyll Lurantis with Solar Blade and a Sunny Day Castform. THAT was one hell of a challenge. Of course, the Trials themselves were all total cakewalks, but the challenge with the Totem fights sort of balanced that out.
As for the graphics, they look amazing. The only thing I’m a little iffy about it all is that they’re using the same models over again, but I think they’ll have different animations, because of the Minccino in the trailer? Honestly I don’t know, because I’ve pretty much never seen a Minccino in action in model form. I just hope Pokemon like Xatu, Salamence, and others finally stand on the floor now instead of constantly flying all the time. If that alone is solved, I will be completely fine with it. They just don’t look like they should be doing that... Overall, though, the way they’re lighting and shading them all at least will make it seem different enough where I won’t care too much.
The female protag is a total cutie, as you’d expect, so that’s great. I love how much p̶o̶r̶n̶  fanart there is of her already. I’m also loving all the memes of her having an over-the-top British/Scottish accent, and shouting super British insults at the Lass she fought in the trailer...
The Starters:
I feel like they’re going to grow on me, because the initial reaction to the Alolan starters was a bit iffy at first, but once I started to see them in action, I started to like them. Obviously these Pokemon are so big that you just hope they’re going to fit with everything. Also, I definitely think part of it is me worrying that other people won’t like them, as opposed to just thinking about whether I like them. I definitely have a problem with that, especially when it comes to Pokemon. I do like them all, but I don’t feel it on the surface just because of all that...
Scorbunny:
Not really into the name, but I am 100% going to pick him. I’ll probably just nickname him Flambino, or Orville (after my rabbit toon in Toontown~). I was initially a bit put off by his giant, cartoony rabbit feet, but as I saw more and more fanart of him, I seriously started to love every part of him. The little patches/bandaids on him were a really nice touch.
As for what he may turn into, my hopes are for him to turn into some kind of Soccer (or Football, since this is England) player. The clues are there, since he’s a fast runner and there’s a lot of exaggeration on his feet. But, there is that one leak where he may turn into some kind of rocket rabbit? The idea is pretty cool, but the thing looks a little too much like Lopunny in my opinion to be reliably real... I love Lopunny to death, mind you, but I would rather have a rabbit with a slightly different look to it. It matches up with the idea that the way they’re introduced in the trailer hints at what types they’ll be, since Scorbunny was running up a steel watermill(?) and jumped really high, referencing how it’d become an airborne steel type. I’m really only considering this leak because of the leak of Incineroar, Primarina, and Decidueye last gen. That really caught me off guard, and the artstyle of Rabbirocket (name pending) really does seem to match the concept art artstyle...
It’s funny, though, because I’ve always favored either the water type or to a lesser extent the grass type of a generation, but this is the first time where the fire type is my first choice. I guess we’ll just have to wait to see what they turn into, though, before I decide for sure.
Grookey:
Honestly, I think Grookey has the most potential of the three. He seems reminiscent of Braixen, since he has a little stick as a weapon/tool, and people really seem divided on what he’ll turn into. On one hand, people think he might turn into a drummer whose music makes plants grow, since that’s essentially how he did it in the trailer. But, he might also be like a witchdoctor, and has plant-growing magic. The last idea plays into the idea that the starters are based off of sports, like where Scorbunny is Football, making Grookey either Baseball, Hockey, or Cricket. I don’t know what sport Sobble would be, but chances are it’ll become more clear as they evolve. The last interesting idea is that he’ll represent the evolution of the human race, starting with an ape, turning into some sort of Neanderthal/Caveman, and then into a normal human. Either way, the trailer suggests he’ll turn into a rock type. Really, He’s my second choice for sure.
Sobble:
Currently in last place, but obviously that can change in time. I’m just not as into his proportions as much, but obviously they’ll change as he evolves. It would be cool to have a true iguana Pokemon, since Keckleon is a little off of the norm. He definitely seems like he’s going to turn into a ghost type, since he can turn invisible, and it plays into the idea that he’s shy (ala. the Boos from Mario)
One really funny thing that people noticed about the starters is how they’re sort of similar in some design aspects to the Powerpuff girls, with Scorbunny’s ears looking like Blossom’s bow, Grookey’s ears (horns?) looking like Buttercup’s hair, and the pattern on Sobble’s face looking like Bubbles’ hair. I wouldn’t have instantly dismissed it if the colors didn’t also match up. Whether or not it’s true, it is a funny coincidence.

ok here’s this. pokemon au ramble. because this week has just been me loving my ocs but bass boosted. under the cut!! this post will be REALLY long mainly because of the teams sorry!
pokemon au is pure bc no deaths or rlly bad things happen
buggy is a trainer who went on the pokemon journey for fun and as a coming-of-age kinda thing(also because he may or may not have burnt his house down with a litwick), but kinda stopped getting gym badges half way and decided to settle down and just take the road casually. he settled down with apoccy and they both run a little pokemon sanctuary and care for pokemon that aren’t able to go back to the wild or have some little quirk (for example a litwick that cant keep itself lit easily). he likes battling for fun rather than for glory, and when his rival (farrow, obvs) was like “ha im gonna beat u and become the champion and ur not” he was like “i mean ok have fun!” which makes farrow pissed. he’s a guy who really cares about pokemon’s feelings and basically got back into action from pokemon santuary-ing and fought against the coven (the bad guy team) to stop them from hurting anyone.
team:
- Ari (talonflame) (he flies around on her!)
- Lulu (chandelure) (his absolute baby and child)
- Fluffy (ampharos) (he named it fluffy when it was a mareep but then it evolved a bit and it wasnt fluffy anymore. its name is still fluffy tho)
- Big Boy (pelipper) (he’s a big ocean enthusiast but can’t swim and is a bit afraid of the water, so he uses pelipper to navigate over it and help him fish)
- Ellis (sylveon) (he wanted him to be a flareon but he loved them a lot and he ended up becoming a sylveon but buggy still loves him 100%)
- Musha (musharna) (musha helps him go to sleep easier and stay awake better as well, it’s basically his service pokemon ahghjhdjkf. she’s usually floating by his side!)
i think mendel would be a pokemon professor bc he studies pokemon. how he was even trusted enough to hand out pokemon to small children is a mystery, but gene takes care of most of the friendly stuff with handing u ur pokemon and stuff, mendel just does the research. later on it’s revealed that mendel is part of the region’s bad guy group, the coven! (>:3cc) their goal is to fuse multiple powerful pokemon together into the perfect pokemon that is able to beat everything and everyone else, in a combination of every type in existence. (Idk if this is the plot of any game bc i dont remember the plot of any game past pokemon b/w honestly) eventually the protag gets them to not fucking destroy everything and befriend the big boy pokemon (juggy, but like pokemon) and the coven disbands their group and just live life as normal people not criminals bc pokemon verse is best verse
team: - Juggy (sivally) (idk shit about sivally or the sumo plot but it looks like a fusion pokemon and its cute so like um there we go ig. in the actual au itd probably be a completely new pokemon but im lazy)
- Cofagrigus (obvious reasons. if i didnt want to keep this au pure i wouldve mentioned he still grave digs)
-Mimikyu (shut up its cute)
- Flabebe (flowere) (”oh what a pretty flower, it will be great to work on. oh no its a pokemon. guess its my child now”)
- Arbok (its a snake he loves snakes he gives it little pats on the head and rattatas)
- Claydol (it has a ton of red eyes and its black and red what more do you want from him. also he thinks it is cool and its psychic so like hhuiionnghgh yeah)
gene is a pokemon docdor (he heals those boys up for you and takes care of them) and helps mendel out in research since they both share an interest in researching pokemon!!! he doesn’t know that hes part of the bad guy team that snatches up pokemon and doesn’t question any weird things he decides to research about until like the end. he’s really nice and’ll probably catch up to you along your journey just to see how you’re doing, check up on you, and give you cool stuff like the master ball n stuff. he has a big greenhouse where he grows berries and’ll give you some as gifts along the way. he battles you occasionally to see how strong you’ve gotten and’ll heal your pokemon when your done, giving you tips. he likes hanging out around forests and little garden areas.
team:
- Serperior (long boi. good noodle boi.)
- Comfey (C O M F E Y flowere boi)
- I lost my old gene team im so sad so i dont remember any of it
- Bitty (budew) (BABY BOY BABY! he loves them sm) (it evolves into roserade later on but shhhshhh baby budew)
- Swanna (pretty birb!!) (helps him water the plants in the greenhouse!!)
- Ana (unfezant) (HE NEEDS ANA OK)
- Audino (mega) (he needs that healy pokemon it’s essential) (theyre his little helper)
farrow is the stereotypical rival guy tbh. with buggy he was like “im gonna be better than u” and buggy was like “stop bullying me” but then just “ok” so he got bored. with skuggy it was more competitive, and they even battled each other right at the victory road’s entrance to see who was better, but they never got to complete the elite 4 trial since the coven juggy shit happened and they basically had to team up temporarily to stop these guys. when all of that was done farrow got back to challenging the elite four and trying to become champion, but he’s still struggling and is trying to train his team to become better while skuggy went “eh i’m done that was fun tho” and gave up. farrow hates being seen as weak and wants to have the strongest team, but he still loves his pokemon even if he pushes them near the limit sometimes while all focused up on winning.
team:
- Ally (linoone) (theres no possum pokemon and im mad but he likes ferrets too so) (or uh. long raccoon?) (either way he loves ally and she’s kind of a tank)
- Mittens (incineroar) (this was his starter, somehow, since he took the traditional trainer coming-of-age path and went to become the best.) (he loves his cat even if it did become....bipedal and buff??????) (They share the same big ego and victory flexing) (he rides on mittens’s shoulders sometimes or mittens carries him with arms in the air like a king)
- Rogue (liepard) (cate!!) (also it really fits him!!!) (he loves his thief cat and steals everyone’s items with it and makes them mad) (skuggy has cursed this cat out for stealing all his pokemon’s items at least twice before while both her and farrow looked on grinning smugly)
- Jasper (noivern) (i associate farrow with bats a lot, i think he likes bats now) (big fuckig boy who farrow flies on and farrow really likes battling with) (when farrow is out travelling and is tired and it’s late but he can’t find anywhere to stay, jasper shields him and makes whats basically a mini tent with his wings around him)
- Doggo (houndoom) (Farrow named him doggo as a joke but it stuck) (Fire dog with evil aesthetic! Farrow loves this) (He’s a good dog and farrow pats him for doing good work. he sniffs out berries and items for him on the road and is like his guard dog.)
- Snippy (gliscor) (another bat babey) (i might change it but idk) (it’s a sneakey boy) (he is also a tank and poisons everyone’s pokemon) (farrow accidentally gets stung by him like twice a week)
skuggy is a trainer who set out on the pokemon journey as a means to get out of his shitty house and family, collecting pokemon to help defend himself, but ended up really loving pokemon (especially bug types) and trying to take on a few gyms while he was at it. eventually he met farrow and it became kind of like a little race to see who can get the most gym badges first, giving him a motivation to travel the region and take on the elite 4. after the juggy fiasco he got a bit tired of fighting and decided he valued his pokemon a lot since they defended him and helped him fight back so he said “yknow what im gonna take a break from our race thing, im just gonna find somewhere to finally stay and chil out” while farrow was shaking the elite four’s door like “LET ME IIIIIN”. he’s kinda chill now and is thinking about going back and trying to fight the 4 someday, but for now he’s just a guy who catches bugs. he and gene hang out sometimes and go into forests n stuff. he’s still a butcher in this world ig. mans gotta make some money
team:
- Clove (scolipede) (his first pokemon, he caught it and went with it, but got really attached really fast) (she is his baby and he made it so far with her by his side and is really proud of both clove and himself for getting this far)
- Big Tony (armaldo) (he found a fossil pokemon and kept it since it’s rock type and can help ward off fire types, which is a big weakness of his team, but he ended up loving big tony too. i know theyre supposed to be like 4 foot 9 but please imagine big tony as a BIG boy that skuggy can ride on its shoulders and back to get around.)
- Babie (ribombee) (he caught this thing and said “this is the cutest shit i’ve ever seen.” went on to destroy dragon types and be the best bee ever.) (actually it’s pretty weak but skuggy believes in them)
- Toaster (heracross) (heracross was too cute for skuggy NOT to catch. it’s the powerhouse. this boy rips thru pokemon likes it’s nothing. unless it’s a fire or flying type. then it dies.) (it likes to f i t e and shares skuggy’s quick temper, because u know what they say, like pokemon like trainer)
- Big old boy (stoutland) (this was also one of the first pokemon he’s ever caught and it was really strong, defended him well and was kind of like the tank of the team, so he kept it. he likes sleeping on its back, and sometimes it has to remember it isn’t a tiny dog anymore because it tries to jump at skuggy to greet him and he gets fucking smashed.) (hes a very good boy, he’s very fluffy, and skuggy loves him so much and owes him his life)
- Jeff (swadloon) (skuggy loves his emo-looking son.) (ever since he beat depression in the dick he just cant help but see himself in swadloon) (but swadloon is happy, just very comfy and grumpy) (swadloon loves skuggy and skuggy loves swadloon) (i mean just look at him) (it’s perfect for skuggy)
okay i’m done here there’s obviously more people but this post is getting alarmingly long and i still need to make their teams. if u read this entire thing u deserve 20 cat images and more jesus christ u madman !!!!!!

so here's the thing: USUM has a lot to work with in its lore that I think just.... wasn't executed well. contrary to b2w2, which anyone who knows me is aware I am not fond of. b2w2 had shit lore that honestly retconned more than it added to the lore and story of bw, but given the black/white kyurem thing, I guess it's fair to say I cant think of a better way to bring those into play; having plasma return under ghetsis was perfectly fine when you're looking at it from a perspective of purely plot beats, it's just the story pacing and failure to live up to the thematic potential that made it Meh. And the stupid lore additions. But that's beside the point here and a rant for another day.
the thing with USUM is that it had a good foundation. in a different story, the changes it made would've been super interesting. It took the building blocks it set up with Necrozma and made something believable - i.e. that this fucking legendary pokemon that consumes light was responsible for another dimension's destruction (or just misfortune, whatever) and also the reason solgaleo and lunala even came to the "main" pokeworld. so, like, here's what I propose:
firstly: make USUM a direct sequel instead of glorified third versions. have it pick up right where SuMo left off: lillie is in kanto, because she already got a complete and satisfying character arc and USUM just made it dull with cutting things out. lillie's story is resolved so theres no reason to give her more than a postgame appearance to battle or some shit to that effect. doesn't matter, the point is lillie isn't here.
the protagonist could go either way--either we have a new protagonist, or the SuMo protagonist. there would be no reason to rehash the island trials, so it really doesn't matter. regardless, the game refuses the memory link from b2w2 because that was actually a good concept. Either way the game begins with a cutscene/short playable segment of the SuMo protag, champion of alola, following up on the very end of the postgame where looker points you in the direction of necrozma. the protagonist has their team from the previous game via memory link at this point, plus nebby (lunala/solgaleo) replacing the last party member. basically, they go and fight necrozma, which is stirring from the increased ultra wormhole and UB activity. regardless of the battles Actual Outcome, in the following cutscene Necrozma wrecks the player's shit, either incapacitating the champion themself until postgame or simply incapacitating their pokémon, thus forcing the player to have a clean slate for the game.
necrozma also absorbs nebby/lunala/solgaleo and starts consuming the light from alola, thus plunging it into darkness. needless to say, this is not good. now if the protagonist is not the champion, they're a young trainer in alola who is gonna be affected by the shit going down. obviously. they basically insist on wanting to help to kukui who, with burnett, brings the protag and hau to the aether foundation.
sun and moon also set up that whole fucking parallel alola with another cosmog you could get and did absolutely nothing with it, so of course I'm taking advantage of it. necrozma is too powerful to take down alone, so using aether's technology, protag has to go to the alternate alola and retrieve the parallel world's cosmog. (given adjustments to its moveset, growth rate, etc., it would function as the players starter, essentially, because fuck you. alt-nebby has a sort of yellow version pikachu thing going on where they walk with the player and such. again, because fuck you.)
the plot essentially follows protag and alt-nebby on an interdimensional adventure as they try to outrun necrozma until nebby is strong enough to fight it and return to your alola; this is where you can introduce the ultra recon squad, probably as a more significant organization beyond the whole four members we see in USUM. they could function as a stand-in for the island trials/gyms, testing protag as they adventure through the great wide multiverse. this functions similarly to the wormhole bits in USUM but with better, larger maps and environments. there are different pokemon and ultra beasts to be found in each dimensional area and the protag can have a sort of hub/homebase in ultra megalopolis, who, heading your plight, wish to help you fight necrozma. your selection of pokeballs and other items expand as they're developed in ultra megalopolis. the exploration portion is gonna be a big deal.
of course since this is a sequel and we miss the previous characters, the recon squad also sets up a way for you to communicate with folks back in alola. this way you can see the story going on there--how guzma and the reformed skull are helping to hold off necrozma, as are the kahuna and tapu, hau taking a more active role and acting as a mentor / adviser to the protag and undergoing his arc of wanting to be a more "serious" trainer (he would likely have his doubts about what hes able to do to help and express that to protag, and we'd be able to see him come to the decision to work harder like we get in USUM.) We could also get Lusamine's redemption arc without, you know, completely handwaving her treatment of her children.
the story of course comes to a climax when the protagonist fights and defeats necrozma for good with the help of not only the efforts of the people of alola but help from the ultra recon squads technology and the now-fully-evolved alt-nebby. necrozma is defeated, possibly caught by the player, possibly sent back spiraling through ultra space or whatever.
depending on the protag either you have, like in USUM, hau challenging you for the championship with newfound confidence in himself as a trainer, or if it's a new protag, a red-mosque battle where you get to fight your damn self (again, memory linked team, albeit with capped levels because lord fighting myself with my full lv 100 team would be a bitch.) for added endgame longevity you would have free roam across alola with trial captains and kahunas wanting to battle you to see how you've changed (or how strong the trainer that helped save alola is, again, depending on protag).
or--alternatively--the new protag chooses to stay in ultra megalopolis and become champion there, thus leading to a cute subplot postgame involving establishing the ultra space pokemon league, because it'd be cute. Thank you good night.

So Danica's dad was a trainer, right? He's still alive and well, but he is effectively a dead beat dad, prioritizing training and traveling over his wife and kid. It's bad to the point where Danica doesn't really have a lot of memories of him? He was there one moment and gone the next, so Danica never truly...cared?
But when it comes to Johanna, I can already feel like this, and possibly other things, would make her less than excited that her daughter is so eager to be a pokemon trainer. Like yes, being a coordinator is a trainer in their own right, but they don't exactly require constant traveling ( I think). It's not as adventurous as being a pokemon trainer, I think. But then there's Danica who just wants to do Pokemon battles. Who wanted to travel around. And that probably scared her since her husband practically left her for " The Journey". And her daughter would probably do the same. So I think growing up, Danica was pretty much subjected to everything contests. It didn't help that Johanna was also kinda projecting her love for being on the stage onto Danica, half expecting her to become a coordinator like she did, and half worrying that her daughter would disappear from her life like her husband( essentially, Johanna was trying to force a link between them). So now Danica's apathy towards contests isn't just bc she doesn't exactly care for them, but also because she constantly grew up with it and it was annoying. Even more annoying since whenever Danica brought up Pokemon battling what wasn't contest based, Johanna would awkwardly just change the subject. I think Barry was the only one that truly let Danica indulge in the idea of being pokemon trainers.
And then there's the scene in hearthrome city where Johanna pretty much drags Danica into a contest. Oof. Again, I think Danica drags Kiran and Barry along cause she Does Not want to do this right now.
Gosh, the more I think about Johanna and Danica the more I realize their relationship is. Probably not great. Nothing insanely bad, but Johanna is constantly projecting and Danica just wants to do her own thing.
I do think it's an interesting parallel to Jin and Norman. Jin wanted to be a trainer so they can kick their dad's butt ( aka, they just wanted their dad's attention again), and Danica wanted to be trainer bc 1) she wanted to and 2) to get away from Johanna's smothering. Even more interesting since I kinda consider platinum to be the unofficial sequel to emerald but there's literally no evidence of that lmao. Protag Parallels Bay Bee!

Diavolo no Daibouken AU
This is essentially justification for a character that uses stand discs. It ended up (as usual with us) becoming a pretty big thing. Whether or not we ever pick it back up is... to be seen. Warning for part 6 spoilers (universe reset, that is) referencing of other AUs I have (shouldn't be a problem though), yugioh references...
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/09/2020:
All right about the daibouken thing
Maybe the discs are randomly generated by the stand itself?
hollow knight... 12/09/2020:
hhhh? how tho..
pucci screwed up when resetting the universe is like. the only possible thing i can think of without doing weird workarounds. or like... original souls dead or alive were made discs?bgjkr
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/09/2020:
Pucci fucked up #2: now look what you’ve done
hollow knight... 12/09/2020:
hehehehehhdjbas yea
i love pucci just totally screwing up
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/09/2020:
Pucci made a world (almost) without stands
Fuckin.... pokemon but it’s stands
hollow knight... 12/09/2020
bhegrhjgbjbgdxs
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/09/2020:
That would actually be a fun idea for a fanpart
hollow knight... 12/09/2020:
whitesnake says fuck pucci for evolving him and sabotages
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/09/2020:
Whitesnake: let’s see how you like THIS fate big man
hollow knight... 12/09/2020:
ok uhhhhh so the memory & stand discs are still separate, so the only way for this person to figure out what happened would be... someone's memory who was there to find out his whole plan. so the memory disc of... jotaro, jolyne, weather, emporio, or pucci? but emporio & pucci of course have all their discs...
unless.....
whitesnake could also clone discs..?
hollow knight... 12/09/2020:
they do ballet, just cause i admire the fuck outta those ppl like holy shit strippers and ballet dancers god damn
this person can and will kill you only using legs.
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/09/2020:
Plot idea: stand disc game that kids play with gauntlets that load disks some of which are real
hollow knight... 12/09/2020:
omg
jojo but its yugioh but its jojo
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/09/2020:
And our hero accidentally finds a r e a l one
hollow knight... 12/09/2020:
"i will just insert this Directly Into My Face"
jk, the disc calls to em
fuckn full yugioh
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/09/2020:
full yugioh...
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/10/2020:
WAIT wouldn’t giorno/some equivalent of him exist in this world thanks to Requiem
hollow knight... 12/10/2020:
yes, yes he would 👀
hes a pretty big help
(eventually)
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/10/2020:
wait maybe he’s a disc that someone finds
hollow knight... 12/10/2020:
i did consider, but
giorno is confused and depressed cause wtf happened, he lost like. Everything adn then this person whos happened to start figurin shit out starts looking for his discs, cause they find... i dunno, one of the p5 gangs disc, so they know about him. anyway, they find giorno himself and its weird cause like. why isnt he discs. and giorno becomes kinda the jotaro equivalent
im thinking, since almost everyones reborn, protag is trying to find them & return their discs
so giornos trying to help find the people & other discs, which is really hard cause for some reason someone made a goddamn game
god imagine a scene where giorno has all of his friends discs back
hollow knight... 12/10/2020:
u_u
and then finally pucci checks in on the new verse and ruins everything
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/10/2020:
hes the final boss
maybe this is the verse before fusion?
Like, Giorno has Jotaro’s disc in his hand and boom. Jort
hollow knight... 12/10/2020:
shrugs probably
just every au is real now
cause puccis a dick
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/10/2020:
Just an idea we don’t have to go through with it
A shitpost really
hollow knight... 12/10/2020:
ah
unless
this is the verse just before the final one
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/10/2020:
You genius
also consider: this giorno isn’t quite the giorno we know, he’s lived pretty much the same life as the giorno we know but he’s from another reset that was basically identical to the first universe
there’s a pattern to these things
mainverse, pucci fucked up verse
But each mainverse slowly but surely gains more information about how to alter reality properly
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/10/2020:
If that makes sense?
hollow knight... 12/10/2020:
ye yea
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/10/2020:
That likewise means we’re looking at slightly off center versions of the stands
hollow knight... 12/10/2020:
a little miscoloring, aesthetic changes, maybe a couple genders...
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/10/2020:
indeed
hollow knight... 12/10/2020:
aa wait if this was whitesnake getting revenge itd probably have to be one of the first
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/10/2020:
ohh good point
hollow knight... 12/10/2020:
im thinking about having it be the first disc.. and largely sentient (obv, or it wouldnt be able to want revenge in the first place)
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/10/2020:
makes sense
what if giorno goes by his birth name now
hollow knight... 12/10/2020:
actually now that i think about it, was it ever confirmed that giorno was immune to the reset?
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/10/2020:
i don't... think so? not by araki anyway
hollow knight... 12/10/2020:
where is he....
araki wheres new/old giorno.........
xXX.-r12p84-.XXx 12/10/2020:
basically how i see it giorno's a phoenix
he can survive one reset but not two
but then another one rises from the ashes so to speak
the dream is eternal baby

Quick question! Do you Headcanon Interpol being heavily combat focused? Cause I can't seem to guess why need to Dynamax/Mega-Evolve, etc would be a requirement for the standard agent. Looker never canonly mega evolved anyone and he was still shown to be a fun and proficient agent at his job.
Tumblr media
Thanks for the question! I like thinking about interpol related stuff and you bring up a good point.
TLDR: Combat is dependent on the department and situation, but is definitely a possibility. Nate also happens to be in a specific department that is more likely to get into combat, and he’s a prodigy kid who is also a Unovan Hall of Famer, meaning that he’s got the skills to fight back. Also, he wound up being a strong enough trainer to be enrolled into a program that allowed him to have a Mega Evolution in return for providing data for interpol-hired scientists.
Also Dynamax seems to be Galar only as far as I can tell and is only really useful against other dynamax pokemon or holding off a rampaging legendary. Z moves seem to be isolated to Alola and maybe any other region that has high Ultra Wormhole activity, which is also really damn rare. Still, it’s less region locked than Dynamax as far as we know (unless Sinnoh Remakes happen).
Combat isn’t the only aspect, but it’s sometimes nessecary given the firepower we’ve seen from villain groups in the games and other forms of media. Pokemon can be very dangerous at times and it’s not always a great idea to hire a random untested trainer to be put in a high-risk situation (the protags are hired by interpol were all champion level trainers, even if they are young). It’s better to have agents who are professionally trained in dealing with high-risk situations rather than put civilians at risk.
I won’t say too much about Looker since I’m not playing him, but I would assume he knows enough for self defense; even still, he did lose his trusted partner in Croagunk, which means he’s possibly seen combat dangerous. Also, he’s been assigned to deal with Ultra Beasts in some capacity, twice. If he wasn’t fit to at least survive an encounter with those things, then he likely wouldn’t be put up to the task. Still, he hasn’t used any special power up combat items, and I would assume his approach is more focused on not getting into combat in the first place.
It also depends on the department. Agents in the Pokemon Crimes divison (what I headcanon to be crimes related to anything pokemon) are more likely to be in a high-risk pokemon battle situation compared to someone working on cyber security or investigating a thief that’s performed multiple heists across multiple regions.
For Nate specifically, he is a part of the Pokemon Crimes division, and is often assigned to pokemon poaching/smuggling cases. Smuggling often winds up being more combat focused as smugglers are after high-value pokemon. The best way to ensure that you get these pokemon in the first place wind up being a combination of high skill and/or power pokemon and illegal pokemon capturing tech. So he’s already likely to find himself in combat situations.
Look at team rocket as a good example. Higher level agents are always going after the best and most powerful pokemon, and they aren’t afraid to use technology to get an advantage in battle. I would assume a lot of this tech is experimental and gives a pokemon more of a power boost than a life orb or choice band would do. So frankly sometimes you need a Mega in these situations.
Also, not every agent is assigned a mega evolution. Key Stones and Mega Stones are pretty damn rare/expensive in lore given their status, and you gotta hunt for the Mega Stones most of the time. Nate was assigned to be part of a group of special agents that get Key Stones, and they were asked to find Mega Stones of one of their pokemon as a further weeding out method. Because of the available firepower, these agents are used for high-risk situations and are essentially “shock troop”-esque agents.
