Bit of a (late) long-ass personal post, but this past year has been insanely monumental for me and a lot of it, if not almost all of it, was centered around this silly comedy show.

Starting the year adopting the most perfect cat in the world purely because he looked like Agent Jack Bauer, I've ended up meeting amazing people and making great friendships, both online and in person, I met Glenn and Charlie and MEE and Meg (and Humphrey) and Danny?? got my first tattoo, bought way too much whiskey, and I've just really, genuinely enjoyed my time posting on Tumblr, making shit, and writing fic more than I have in half a decade. It's stupid, and sappy, and probably pretty parasocial, but I owe so many of my best experiences this past year not only to the show, but to joining this community. Because I wouldn't have experienced much of any of this if I hadn't jumped the casual fan on r/IASIP ship and washed up ashore here. And being here has improved my life and my mental health in ways I can't even begin to properly express.

''was that okay to do?'' #charlie just wanting someone to be there for him. to care for him. to care *about* him. #and frank. who caused immense damage to dennis in the short stints when he was actually around. but *was* around. #frank makes everyone realize that they are what charlie needs right now. that they all love charlie. #dennis. who is grateful for frank having been there. as abusive and selfish as he may have been. dennis took that and closed himself off. #taught himself to guard against it. shut off his feelings. prioritize himself above all else. he's Strong because of frank's neglect. #incredibly damaged. unhappy. but Strong. #because the ones who are supposed to care about you most in the world just don't. YOU have to care about you. that's how frank lived too. #charlie has chosen to avoid his entire life. #and now he's been forced to confront it all. he'd been content not knowing if frank was his biological father. #he had a father figure who cared for him. and he wasn't around because he didn't know charlie was alive. he thought bonnie aborted him. #but the reality of it all is that charlie's biological father avoided too. he knew charlie was his son. he spoke to him and *lied* to him. #and just as soon as they reconnect and have a chance to make up forty years of lost time #he dies. he fucking dies. and leaves charlie alone again. to carry him up a goddamn mountain by himself. shouldering this grief and anger. #charlie can't be selfish. he isn't allowed to now. because his dad died and left him one last task. he still doesn't want to let him down.

I’ve doodled ideas for redesigns before, but I’ve never just sat down and done it. By god these designs are so cluttered that there’s so many strings to pull for a redesign!

charlie you've definitely heard this one before but I do believe that richie greyed early. (he also definitely got a nose job. probably with one of his first big comedy paychecks).

went and richie, I think, look very similar. tozier men are lookalikes (richie took after maggies eyes). went has been greying around the corners of his hairline since Eddie met him, which was probably when the two of them were like. what. five? so it was obvious Richie was going to grey neither of them thought it would happen so soon.

and it happens the first time in high school. Eddie's doing the thing where he lays on richie pretending he doesn't desperately want Richie's attention away from his comic and onto HIM when he notices it. right at Richie's temple. a little grey hair.

obviously he plucks it and makes fun of Richie for the next week. lovingly, of course.

but as he gets older, it gets worse. Richie starts dying his hair at like, 17, because he's genuinely beginning to get salt-and-pepper edges. and that's the last Eddie sees of him before he moves away from Derry, hair all perfectly one colour (and the back of Richie's ears a little stained)

if gangly teen Richie had to dye his greys big 40yr old richie def dyes his hair. Eddie's actually forgotten all about the grey thing until he moves in with Richie like a year after they kill the stupid clown.

Richie forgets to book an appointment, or maybe his stylist is busy, but whatever happens he goes a little too long without doing it himself and yeah. silver fox alert. he's grown his hair out bc long hair richie rights and Eddie can see the streaks of greys in his ponytail and it makes him go so insane. he's staring at Richie who's feeling very self conscious.

Richie's like "Sorry dude I'm getting it dyed soon" and Eddie's like. "NO"

and then they probably fuck about it. and continue to fuck about it, because Eddie has found a way to distract Richie from going and getting them dyed.

#iasip #mac macdonald #s3e11 dennis looks like a registered sex offender #just rewatched this episode. god it's so good definitely in my top 10 overall in the show #the dinner scene my forever beloved i hold you close to my heart. it's so insanely satisfying from a writing perspective. #the way it all ties together and even though it's a scene about a dinner being fucking ruined and its got these #relatively high emotional stakes its so so. neatly written that it ends up feeling cathartic? in a way #idk what im saying man that scene's just really good #something about mac and charlie's scheme and motivations clashing with their parents' (and franks) #and them being kind of forced to reckon with the fact that their parents are real people with their owns wants and needs #(especially mac charlie ends up using this to his advantage and kind of betraying mac ig) #also a scene that emotional ending with a shot of charlie going Ohh and the seed has been planted is wild. #also mac being so worried about the fact that the vibe might be off... DO YOU WANT FLAT AMBIANCE??? #he just wants things to be normal!! he just wants a normal nice dinner party and normal parents who are together and happy and love eo!! #also there's a motif that shows up repeatedly of him wanting to seem like a good dinner host lol just kind of noticed that idk #maybe reading into this too much but god the theme of him so often being in denial of reality in order to #live up to certain societal standards and achieve normalness. #this is kind of the first (and imo one of the best) episodes with a plot line about mac's relationships with his parents #and their family dynamic in general which i find so so fascinating. #also i think this is the only time (except for the christmas video) where we see mac's parents together. #on a lighter note ig the dinner scene has so many other great quotes... charlies so funny in it #the man doesnt blink mom the man doesnt blink!! #the charmac in this episode was so excellent in general. the car scene where they freak out and become convinced luthers going to kill them. #YOU DONT DO THAT!
