Suprised you havent mentioned what Val wears in episode 6(he's maybe wearing the same in ep 8?)

Like those fucking boots and the fact he's wearing a skirt makes me think he does it for easy access.....👀

I think it probably is the same outfit! I'm thinking the whole "moth shaped boob window" little black dress is like, the default one he keeps under his coat? He also has a different hat in that scene (no stripes, heart button)

Ughhh I just noticed that even though he isn't talking to or looking at her he's still engaging Gasmask Girl in the conversation or she's part of his recruitment because he has his hand on her hip like that 😩❤️ also isn't it SO diva of him that he already has forearms that become black further down but he'll still put on black gloves with this dress. I guess because his black dress shirt has sleeves and this dress doesn't and he just prefers that fashion wise? Idk

I wonder how often he prefers the pants and how often he prefers the dress? True Valentino simps know he's BEEN hoein' in these streets for a while but I'm still a little surprised they made him dressing gnc a canon thing. I wonder if in season 2 we'll ever see Angel in drag or anything since that's something he enjoys?

Just like. UGHHHH I can SEE him being such a catty bully to force Reader to dress/present themself how he wants them to look. OR he'll manipulate your insecurities and try and be your ""friend"" to get closer to you that way, helping teach you how to 'look nicer' (and some of it IS helpful stuff like say makeup or certain styling tips but 8 times outta 10 he's using you like a doll). He's complimenting you and calling you pretty and he DOES mean it but it's partially because in his mind you're already his property and thus he wants his arm candy to be nice n pretty looking their best. You two are showing up to show out at any event Val drags you along to.

Shit happens like Angel gets a text from Valentino to bring him some food "because I'm busy so chop chop babe" and Angel walks in with the grub and Val is just... sitting there, very obviously definitely not busy, and in fact, he's doing your makeup, applying your eyeliner all sing song and playful, "i swear to Lucifer, mami, if you keep tearing up and ruin all the hardwork I just did on your eyes again, Daddy's gonna have to punish yooou~" and he just glances up to Angel with the most disinterested, "oh, hey. You can set that down and go"

Anthony is over here, having a SOUL CRUSHING MORAL CRISIS, because he's wished and hoped for Valentino getting a new favorite toy FOR SO LONG, but now? Angel's deathly afraid that Val's new favorite to play with might be YOU because Valentino's over here suddenly having you spend your whole shift where you're usually serving drinks to the Overlord now instead just, sitting cuddling up to him, or sitting so close to him your sides are touching and he puts his hands on your sides and waist...

Also um. On the subject of Val's dress and episode 8 and all that can we talk about Vox having the strength to be able to dip this man and how Valentino has hands large enough they can fully wrap around Vox's thigh

Look at these evil WHORES, and the way Val stroked Vox's face, like... UGH I can just see Val making Reader cry and he forces you to look at him, stroking your cheek and cooing about how it's good he got you waterproof makeup this time so that you "can stay nice and pretty and still look so cute while you're whining like a little bitch" like seriously I definitely see Valentino and Velvette as sadistic possessive yandere who would even get off on you crying and all the Vees are seriously the best of the worst 😩❤️

Daddy-Daughter Podcast 2023

11 years ago, my kid's daycare surprised us by announcing that they were closing for Christmas break a day before everyone else, so I ended up with our then-four-year-old daughter, Poesy, at my office for the day.

After she got bored with coloring and playing with my office toys, I sat her down on my lap in front of my podcast mic and we recorded the greatest, all-singing episode of my podcast ever:

Thus began an annual tradition. Every year since – save one, when my mic was busted – we have recorded a podcast: I interview the kid about her favorite media, apps, books, and hobbies. Sometimes, she gives a tutorial. Then, we sing a song.

She's 15 now (!), and I still managed to drag her to the mic this weekend. We discussed her musical favorites, old (Ike and Tina singing "Proud Mary") and new (Dominic Fyke). We discuss high school, volunteering at the zoo, and the rigors of dance team. She teaches us how to drive. She runs down her favorite apps, and discusses her recent name change. And then, we sing!

This is the eleventh installment in this time-series snapshots of my kid, starting in London, then moving to LA, and every year I go back and listen to the previous recordings. It's not just a wonderful moment of nostalgia for me – it's also a powerful way to put everything into perspective. These annual time-capsules are just tremendous. I may not have had the discipline to do daily, time-lapse ready photo portraits, but this corny, silly yearly tradition is more than a way for my kid and me to spend a few minutes together just before Christmas – they're a way to connect to our past and think about the future to come. I can imagine doing these over Zoom when the kid's away at university in a couple years, though who knows if she'll stand for that.

I've cranked through the first half of Love Like the Galaxy in under a week and I REGRET NOTHING: how fast can I put myself outside this gloriously mature and well written Jane Austen style comedy of manners with intermittent murder. Reactions to the first 12 eps under the cut because wow I verbose when I happy

I'm 3 eps into Love Like the Galaxy and while "becoming thoroughly absorbed by Chinese Jane Austen" was not on my bingo list I'll take it.

I have trust issues with cdramas after watching GOODBYE MY PRINCESS which was the drama equivalent of the kind of dude who says 'heh heh I like a girl with spirit' but I do really love what they're doing with Niao Niao and how she's had to survive her awful aunt and grandmother (who are like Mrs Norris and Mrs Bennet, respectively) by becoming calculating, distrustful, selfish and utterly devoted to her own cause

LOVED the moment in ep3 where she tries to show her mother, who's this strict Confucian parent, the sort of nonsense she's had to put up with for years by subjecting her to the evil wiles of Aunt Norris and Grandma Bennet, she just outright pointed out the double standards her mother is operating by

anyway we shall see how things turn out! I'm finding the grounded visuals very nice too - everyone's not caked in makeup and jewels all the time, they look very comfy and believable.

oh my the softly besotted look on Torture General's face when he sees her carriage going by

he hasn't seen her face yet, he just knows she's cold, unfilial, and utterly calculating and he's fallen for her for all the reasons that everyone else reproaches her for

episode 6 of LLTG: a dispute over a writing desk has made me cry. what

This whole scene with the dreadful mother holding court and Niao Niao defending herself - so ably that she beings her brothers and cousin to take her side against her mother - GAH this is AMAAAAAZING

I adore that they don't have anyone fingerwagging at our girl to tell her that actually her mother is doing these toxic things because she deep down cares about her (aHEM, My Journey To You) - they're just being really clear that it's all dreadfully unfair.

I also love that the toxic mother is a sword-wielding warrior woman. She's so heroine-coded??? while also being a terrible person? amazing! I love the unexpectedness of it!

also I take it back, Niao Niao isn't selfish at all - she's just realised that if she doesn't fight for herself then no one else will. But she's not making it an excuse to be unfair or horrible to her perfect cousin, even though it would be the most understandable thing in the world

I love her, she deserves the world

ep7: I've only known Wan QiQi two minutes and I would die for her

is it just me or is this smug scholar precisely the type of man we've all come across??? NN not giving him the time of day is EVERYTHING

Third Aunt giving Third Uncle a shave: what a scene. God bless cdramas. Also, the extent to which there is a whole epic romance cdrama happening somewhere in the backstory here is AMAZING

Also: QiQi is a showy kind of BFF to have - showing up late to the party in a bright red dress and instantly pillaging the birthday gifts she brought the princess to deck you out in earrings? chef's kiss - but I'm also SO appreciative of how they're treating Yang Yang! That moment at the banquet early in the episode where Niao Niao, who can't even read, says, somewhat hurt and pettish, "I don't need to learn ANYTHING! I'm good just as I am!" and Yang Yang says, "Yes, you are!" despite being a bookworm since birth? I LOVE THEM

ahaha NN gives a speech shaming the snobby aristocratic girls for looking down on the daughter of a general, and being extravagant, and don't they know all this bounty is due to the emperor and his generals? feels like the show is buying the right to critique filial piety by kissing up to the state

the statism is the one thing I've disliked about the show so far (also didn't think much of NN snitching on her great-uncle) but that's pretty much a constant in Chinese media except for one wuxia novel I read years ago (BaiFa MoNu Zhuan/Legend of the White Haired Maiden), so onward…

I really hope the cruddy dad experiences the consequences of his actions here but even more than that, I'm amazed that the show has found a way to make us sympathise for the bad mum as a person without trying to make her less bad

I'm just in awe of the writing here - it's SO deft and able.

ah, this must be the bamboo forest where they store action scenes - and I LOVE that the band of lady bodyguards gets to stomp the bandits when a lesser show would use this opportunity to bring on the hero and his army of goth henchmen

aw yess! our girl is strategising their way out! It's so delightful to me - this is precisely the kind of leadership/strategy role asian dramas rarely allow to their female characters

now she's getting to command a siege!?!?! all on her own?

and then castigating herself for not being able to save everybody! BABY

on to ep12, which I have heard people cite as the Point Where The Show Gets Good, and given the fact that I've already been elmo on fire dot gif for eleven episodes I'm not entirely sure what everyone else has been drinking but sure! let's see what lies herein

oh this is the GOOD stuff

yes yes, the big rescue, the arrow pulling, all good…what really gets me is that when our girl wants to see the mass execution and Murder General holds her back, it's not bc he's patronising her, it's bc he knows she needs to hear that AhMiao's death was not her fault

this show is justifying tropes I didn't even know COULD be justified…inCREDible

Third Uncle has two braincells and my whole heart

the only thing better than the look of sheer naked yearning on Murder General's face every time he sees Niao Niao or anything tangentially related to her is his determination never to let on how he feels to his two henchmen, who have known since episode two and are eager to help

Samhain: Agere edition!!

For those of you that don’t know Samhain (pronounced “sow-win”) is a pagan religious festival taking place October 31st-November 1st. This Celtic tradition acted as a celebration to welcome in the harvest and “the dark half of the year”. This time of year is significant because many believe that the veil between the spiritual and physical world is thinning and therefore creating more paranormal or supernatural occurrences.

Originally fire was used as a community after harvest for the participants to take home and light the hearth. It was also belief that celts would dress as the “monsters” of their time in an attempt to prevent fairies from kidnapping them when the veil was thinned. During the Middle Ages people turned towards more personal fires and used carved turnips known as jack-o-lanterns which Irish tradition later switched out with pumpkins.

“Dumb Supper” was another practice during in which a feast would be set up for the ancestors the celts were expecting to cross from the other side and then be used by the physical people after the spiritual had their fill.

(Under the cut is my personal experience and practices)

Samhain is one of my favorite sabbaths to celebrate because it is during the time of year at which I feel most connected with my spirituality. I love to combine agere with these types of things as a way to bring together two different parts of myself that I chose.

List of things I do from Mabon(autumn equinox) to October 30th:

- Color magick: rearrange my wardrobe and current makeup styles to simpler and muted pieces as a way to slow down and focus on nature and the items I use

- Watch moon phases: keep an eye out for the phases of the moon during this time of year, this is because I feel more connected to the moon specifically and begin to write letters to her(the moon) as a way to manifest her energy and change with the seasons. This also allows for more rituals to be done during this time including lots of energy cleaning (I stay inside most days and I don’t want things to feel stagnant)

- Journal: journal all dreams, signs, numbers, or deck spreads that you happen to come across and stick with you. Intuition is very important during this step but don’t be scared and overthink things. Trust yourself so the self trusts you.

- Shopping!!: This one may not be seen as magickal as the others but for me it plays a big part in setting my energy for my space and my mental. This includes things like candles, blankets, books, incense, certain herbs, and even a new deck. I’ve also found that I tend to buy new jewelry before every season that sets myself up for the energy required to be attached spiritually so that may be a good subtle way to achieve this connection if you’re still in the broom closet.

During Samhain Activities:

- first things first is have my costume ready. I prefer to go by a more closet cosplay like take on my outfits so I can wear them for the entire day without any strange looks or restrictions. This is just a way for me to enjoy myself and also view it as a way of protection.

- Act as usual: seriously, I don’t spend all day thinking about the sabbath. I know a lot of witches may have a full day to celebrate but unfortunately I know a few who definitely don’t and I don’t want it to seem like you have to be dedicating all your time to it to be celebrating correctly. Spend time with your friends. Listen to loud rave music. Do whatever makes you feel most comfortable during this time and be grateful that you made it to this part of the year. This is usually the time where my age regression joins the most: I spend most of the day coloring spooky Sanrio Sheets, watching kids Halloween episodes, and eating whatever I want. Many people view being a witch as being strict with sabbaths and having a certain aesthetic when doing so, I don’t follow this belief and I just allow my kid-self to have the Halloween he’s used to as a way to have nostalgia and think of the good times the year has offered me before this moment.

-Dumb Supper: My favorite was of celebrating is having a dumb supper, which can be even more special as a kitchen or hearth witch. I do this at my working altar currently because I'm still in the broom closet but I still set up a simple dinner, light my ancestor candles, and do a few readings to listen to their advice. I am usually regressed during this because to me it feels like the one time of year I get to sit at the adult table and ask them questions and listen to their stories about their lives and all the things they learned they want to pass on to me.

-Lighting: I always use candles on this night and other light up items such as star projections to bring a child-like thing into the night of Samhain.

-Journaling: after doing all of this I sit in bed and read through my journal from the month before and make any editions or notes, also documenting all that happened that night

I write this post to explain the origin, traditions, and personal practice of Samhain and I hope many of you can learn that it’s ok to incorporate age regression into spiritual or “adult” practices <3 Happy Samhain and Halloween everyone!! You never liked coming to these things but considering your dad was a big time famous general surgeon, you had also been invited, every single time. You yourself were a surgical resident at your father’s hospital, Chicago Med. You really liked it there and you really liked the people especially Connor Rhodes but you never were able to spend time with him since you were always busy and hardly ever on the same shift as him.

You thought Connor was hot but he was always with Ava when you did get to see him and you were absolutely crushed but you took those emotions and put them into work. By doing this you quickly became a top resident. You loved what you did and hoped to be good as your father one day, if not even better. You had talked with Godwin and she had said some promising things but you knew to take them with a grain of salt and just continued to work.

As you were getting read in your apartment you had to talk yourself up into putting on makeup and doing your hair. You sighed and looked in your mirror while you were putting on your earrings and your necklace that your father had given you for a gift on your last birthday. You wished your mother was here to help you get ready for this event but sadly she was not and that crushed you. When you were done putting on your makeup and jewelry when your phone rang. You picked it up and saw that your father was calling so you answered it.

“Hello, Dad.” You said with a smile and put him on speaker as you continued to get ready.

“Hi, Baby Girl. Are you almost ready to go?” He asked you and you smiled.

“Yes, putting the last touches on and then going to put the dress on.” You said and you could hear him nod.

“Do you want me to pick you up?” He asked and you shook your head.

“No. I’m good with driving myself.” You said with a smile on your face. Ever since your mother had died, he had really stepped up and gave you his undivided attention when he wasn’t working and you were glad about that.

“Ok ok. Just let me know if you change your mind.” He said and again you smiled.

“Will do, Daddy. Will do. I love you.” You said

“I love you too, Baby Girl.” He said and then you both hung up.

You looked at the time and then stood up and looked at the time. You stripped off your clothing and put on your navy blue dress. It was form fitting but flowing at the bottom. It was backless and the straps were thick but spaghetti strap style. You absolutely loved this dress. You had paired it off with the diamond earrings and necklace that your father had given you on your last birthday. Your hair was done up in a half up and half down style with it slight curl to it but it was French braided on the side and then loose going down your back. Your shoes were navy blue high heels but not too high where you weren’t able to walk.

When you got up from your bed after strapping on your shoes you looked at yourself in your full-length mirror and smoothed it down and smiled. You turned and grabbed your phone and then walked into the living room. You walked to where your handbag was and grabbed it along with your keys and you were heading to the fundraiser.

When Connor arrived at the fundraiser with Ava he was ready to get the day over with and out of there. They walked in a greeted everyone that they needed to and then they went a mingled about. He was listening to something Ava was saying but was only half listening to her. He fully lost attention when you walked in looking stunning as ever.

Connor had seen you around the hospital and wanted to talk to you but each time you or he got whisked away. When he was going to ask you something, when you were on the same shift, but Ava always butted in and when he was able to break free you were gone. In all honesty he had fallen in love with you at first sight and he didn’t even know your name. He watched you walk in and greet everyone and then went over to an older man and kissed him on the cheek but for some reason he wasn’t jealous. He watched you shake hands with the other gentlemen around you and other man. He had to know your name.

“Connor, are you even listening to me?” Ava said and but wasn’t paying attention to her.

“Who is that?” He asked Ava and she turned to look at who he was looking at.

“That is Y/N Scott, surgical resident at med. Her father is Jason Scott.” She said and he just looked at you in awe. He watched you excuse yourself from your father and walked over to the bar. This was his chance. He walked over to that same bar and stood beside you completely abandoning Ava where she stood.

He turned to look at you. “Hi, I’m Connor.” He said and you turned to look over at him and smiled and he could’ve sworn he melted right then and there.

“Hi, I’m YN Scott.” You said and outstretched your hand for him to shake and he did and he loved how soft your skin felt. You only let go when the bartender came back with your drink and you turned and thanked him then turned back to Connor.

“So, Y/N what brings you here on this fine evening?” He asked and you smiled.

“Well since my father is a famous surgeon, I get invited to these things to.” You said and he nodded smiling.

“Your father is Jason Scott, right?” He asked and you nodded “He’s a nice guy. It’s always a pleasure working with him.” He said and you smiled you always thought highly of your father.

“He’s a great man. He really stepped up when my mother passed. I mean he was there before but after she passed, he became the mother and father to me.” You said smiling and occasionally sipping your drink.

While you had been talking Ava had been watching you both and was seething. She was jealous. To her Connor was her man and only her man. Connor would say differently. You never really did like Ava she was always acting better than you and you didn’t like that so you steered clear. She watched you both laugh with each other and the little touches you shared. She then watched you both walk out of the room and to somewhere else.

It was getting crowded in the room and hard to hear and he seemed to pick up on this too. “Hey, do you want to take this to somewhere quieter?” Connor asked you and you nodded as you set your now finished drink down. He took your hand and led you out of the room. You walked past your father and he just smiled at you when you looked at him. What you didn’t know was that he had always wanted you two to get together and fully supported you. Connor led you outside and for once it was a warm enough night that you didn’t need anything to over up. It was a comfortable silence. “Have you always wanted to be surgeon?” He asked you and you looked at him and smiled.

“Yes, my father had help in me choosing that career. Pretty much my entire family was in the medical field. My mother worked in pediatrics before she passed away due to a car accident.” You said and looked down when you mentioned your mother.

“I’m sorry about your mother. She would be proud of you.” He said and you looked up smiling at him. You had heard the rumors about this man but speaking to him now made all those thoughts invalid. You both continued to talk and then you decided now was the time.

“No, you didn’t fuck it up. Truth is that I’ve felt the same way. Ava and I are not together, far from it. You’re absolutely beautiful everyday but especially tonight. I wish we had more shifts together but I know how it works. You’re an amazing woman and the work I’ve seen you do is amazing.” He said and you looked down and he gently raised your head up with his pointer finger so you were looking at him. “Can I kiss you?” He asked and you nodded.

“Yes.” You said and he pressed his lips to yours and he could’ve melted at our soft your lips were. Fireworks exploded and this is what you imagined kissing him. He may have rumors going around about him but you decided to take the chance and this was the chance and so you kissed him back. You only pulled away when air was needed and you looked at each other smiling.

“Do you want to go and get another drink?” He asked and you nodded again not trusting your voice. He led you back into the room and to the bar. “Tequila Sunrise?” He asked and you nodded. He turned to the bartender and ordered both of your drinks. When the drinks were put in front of you, you both grabbed them and headed to another part of the room to find other colleagues.

He still had your hand in his and you knew people would be staring and you were right. Your dad was looking at you smiling and Ava was looking at you glaring but you didn’t care. You had Connor and he had you. Nothing could make you both happier at this moment. You both looked at each other occasionally smiled at each other and right then and there you knew this was the best chance you had taken and you weren’t going back.

YALL THIS DRAMA. THIS DRAMA. this drama was simultaneously the worst and best thing I have experienced in a long time. however, if I could only use one word to describe this drama, it would 100% be stunning. the drama is absolutely stunning. from the music to the costuming to the makeup to the actors- this drama's visuals is quite frankly something never seen before in chinese dramaland- its so dark and brooding and so cool. the plot on the other hand...? let's get into it.

okay- hear me out y'all. I know people absolutely LOVE this drama and I am one of them, but I have to admit the logic in this plot sucks ass. like it really sucks ass. recently i heard a youtuber describe the characters as people who thought they were zhen huan but in reality were just a bunch of xia dongchuns and it really made me laugh- and guys... unfortunately, its true. some of the methods that the characters use to scheme and idk "verbally spar" honestly were just so- sigh. so ridiculous.

generally speaking, I felt that the drama didn't really have a "thread" or a central purpose, which I think is mainly a result of the build up to the ending. it failed to answer so many questions and instead made it worse by creating even more. overall, the plot kind of just felt like wading through a gigantic mud marsh with pointless confrontations and plot points popping up everywhere. the scriptwriters gave the drama a super complex framing that they just weren't able to do justice. two powerful sects and two people from completely opposing sides. one is an assassin-spy that initially (?) yearns for freedom and one is the leader of the sect that she is trying to destroy. add to that all the scheming that goes on the gong family. and a lot of childhood trauma. that's a shit-tonne of emotion and plotting to deal with which you can't realistically develop to a good quality within just 24 episodes.

I also got the vibe that the scriptwriters were scared to pin point any of their characters down for the sake of mystery, which honestly instead of making the drama better, really just made it worse. so many characters' motives were constantly doing 180s and big revelations were thrown in without any evidence of it being interlaced with the rest of the drama (I'm looking at you Big Plot Twist At End of Drama). like, the general concept was amazing, show-stopping, fantastic, never seen before, but then came the execution and it all just sort of fell apart.though I did enjoy the plot and watched the show until the end, ultimately I felt that there was honestly just too many frustrating flaws to justify it getting anything higher than 3. I loved the drama all the same though, the concept, the music and cinematography was just insane.

𝖈𝖍𝖆𝖗𝖆𝖈𝖙𝖊𝖗𝖘 - 7

ugh all the characters in this show where literally sO COOOLLL. they all had such distinctive characters, styles and personalities, it was amazing. honestly, literally never seen before. their tragic backstories were so so heartbreaking. while plot wasn't fantastic, the drama was pretty good at establishing and handling the characters and their emotional attachments to each other. its kinda funny to me that for a drama which marketed romance as it's main thing, the non-romantic relationships were so much better written. I loved yun weishan and yun que's relationship to their master han yasi and the relationship between xue chongzi and xue gongzi. and omg, gong ziyu's relationship to lady wuji? brought me to tears.

speaking of the romance department; I found it really hard to invest in the ships. while I approved of all the pairings and thought a romantic dynamic between them would be very interesting, it did feel like the storytelling was yet again lacking. I couldn't be sure wether I could really invest and ship the romance between shangguang qian and gong shangjue bcs both their motives were so unclear, and neither of their feelings towards one another were never really explored properly? and while I definitely understood yun weishan's attraction to gong ziyu, I didn't really get why gong ziyu loved her and risked so much for her which made some of his actions seem really silly and hard to stand by. overall, for the romance, i think I liked what it had the potential to be than what we actually got.

𝖕𝖗𝖔𝖉𝖚𝖈𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓 - 10

Y'ALLL. time to talk about my absolute FAVOURITE part of this drama. THE PRODUCTION. the colouring, the lighting, the sets, the cinematography?? the makeup? the music? the costume design?? THE COSTUME DESIGN?? its quite obvious that a huge amount of the budget for this drama has simply been poured into the design, like I've seriously never seen a drama shot like this ever before and it was absolutely insane (though they definitely had to cut down on the cast and extras, the whole drama has this weird kind of empty feeling for a manor that is so rich and famous and so tightly guarded, like yun weishan didn't even get a personal handmaiden) I remember seeing the trailers for this show and literally screaming- the drama itself did not disappoint. I would even go as far to say that I would watch this drama completely just for the aesthetics.

𝖆𝖈𝖙𝖎𝖓𝖌 - 7

in my personal opinion, no complaints about the acting, it was pretty great. although it's pretty dramatic at times and everyone speaks at the volume of a whisper, at no point in the drama did I get taken out of the show by the acting. esther yu really slayed in her new assassin role which was so fun to watch especially since most of her roles thus far have been rather cutesy and light- and her marital arts scenes ate- in fact all the martial arts scenes ate in my opinion. I think even the side characters did fairly well, it was all very nice. no complaints.

It’s spooky season so here are some webtoon recs

apologies in advance for the low quality images some of them are locked behind paywalls now (on the kr app the translated ones should be fine) and I was too lazy to go through all the chapters for the good panels

Ghost Teller- I’m so biased but this is one of my favorite webtoons. Summary in one line: ghosts go to therapy

Real summary: various ghosts (s1 is eastern ghosts, s2 is western ghosts) tell “human stories” (like how we talk abt ghost stories lol). the art is amazing, and all the episodes are all pretty solid. even if some stories are predictable you still feel for the characters (although personally I prefer s1 over s2)

Sweet Home- some of you might have seen it on Netflix but whether you watched it or not I highly recommend the webtoon (I have issues with the adaptation but that’s another story)

basically people suddenly start turning into monsters and the survivors of this apartment try to survive together. except the mc shows signs of becoming one of those monsters which creates unrest amongst the survivors. not going to get too into the monster part bc spoilers but the webtoon explores what people would do for survival so you get to see scummy ppl, kind ppl, all trapped together and try to survive 👍

the art style captures the story’s spooky/horror vibe so well. I didn’t include Bastard on the list (the previous webtoon the same author and artist worked on) bc it’s more of a psychological horror/thriller than creature? horror but if it sounds interesting or you liked sweet home I highly highly recommend Bastard as well.

+) There’s also a prequel called Shotgun Boy that’s more about the creatures’ origins

Surviving Romance- despite the title there’s little to no romance although it can probably be read as sapphic if you’d like. if you read makeup remover it’s by the same author. I’ve also seen some people compare this to orv but I can’t speak for that since I haven’t finished orv… haha

one line summary: mc gets isekai’d into a romance novel except it suddenly turns into a zombie apocalypse

long summary: mc is the mc of a romance novel but on the day she’s supposed to receive a confession from the male lead, there’s a zombie outbreak. she already read the novel so she knows the story and characters, but literally everybody that’s not the love interests don’t like her bc that’s how the mc of the novel was written. she finds out that the day resets when she dies but she doesn’t really care until someone she doesn’t know the face of saves her and she decides to find that person and make sure they make it out alive

even if you don’t like isekais (I personally don’t) it’s worth a try. it plays around the isekai premise well and the fourth wall moments were just *chef’s kiss* the impact of those moments especially when the webtoon was still ongoing was 🤌

the cast is primarily female characters, and despite the cast being on the slightly larger side, each of them are distinct from one another and the characters designs are very cute and colorful. overall it has an unique premise that it delivers pretty well on

Night of Shadows- kinda underrated tbh. mc has prophetic dreams, creatures from her dreams start appearing irl, and she’s the only one that knows how to deal with them.

mc is great. she’s strong, smart, and knows when not to give a fuck. the other three characters of the main cast are also pretty strongly established, and the plot and pacing are pretty good. this is the only one on the list that’s still ongoing (currently on hiatus after s1)

Lincoln

* I would first of all like to thank Lincoln for being shaped like a model (long boy) and thus very easy to dress up

* I forgot that Link needed to tear off his sleeves to make Normal a diaper in lesson 14, so in lesson 11 he grabs a sweater when I assume he goes home between escaping the FBI and returning to school

* Lincoln is so comically tall the Teeny costume (which I just moved from Normal to Link and edited to match Link’s pose) only reaches his knees. It actually looked so stupid that I had to edit it to make the Teeny costume slightly longer in the legs

* Link has two roombas in his room, he’s a clean boy, he isn’t walking around Taylor’s house in his bare feet, he doesn’t trust like that, it’s sock time

Scary

* I actually originally planned for Scary to have more piercings, but I forgot to add them in lesson 1. Let’s just say her mom won’t let her go crazy on the piercings, from what we’ve heard in rad facts (wouldn’t let her get a tongue piercing or learn guitar) that sounds in character

* I wanted to do the Shit Garden logo on Scary’s shirt like one of those metal bands that only people who like metal can actually read, but I only have so much time and patience

* I want so badly to play with Scary’s hair more, but I haven’t really had the chance, I hope there will be more excuses to give her different styles in the future, I like the braided bun for fancy occasions a lot

* Big T-shirt and shorts are peak pyjamas, love it for her. Also, you don’t need to know how long I spent trying to come up with something for her shirt to say

Normal

* Don’t tell anyone but I kind of miss drawing Teeny’s big stupid head every day, it was easy comedy

* I did actually draw a Jimmy Buffet design on the shirt before scribbling over it, you can barely see if you look closely

* I don’t actually have anything to say about Normal’s dance outfit so I guess I’ll just take this opportunity to talk about my Normal design in general. He was the one it took me the longest to land on and I’m still unsure if I’m happy with him, I want his hair to be long enough to just sorta hang and be greasy, but not so long that it will get in his face too much and I still consistently fail on it

* Not much to say about his sleepover fit either. Froggy :)

Taylor

* I had originally planned for everyone to be wearing their bracelets on their left wrists but in episode 8 it’s mentioned that Taylor is wearing his on his right, at that point I think I had only drawn Taylor’s bracelet once so it was easier to just change his and let him be a special boy (also, they keep the bracelets on post-FBI because Taylor never really has an opportunity to take it off and the others wear theirs in solidarity)

*After Lesson 10, Taylor swaps out the crest of friendship from Digimon to wear his dad’s ring of swapping as a necklace, he tends to grab at it when his dad or the topic of betrayal comes up

* I hate Taylor for his dance fit. No longer my favourite son

* Not really a design note but I watched the Sailor Moon dub in three parts on youtube with my little sister huddled around our home computer after school, we’re real OGs

Hermie

* I finally decided to add the Joker makeup to my Hermie design, I found a powdery sorta brush to use for it so now he’s a true clown. Good for him I guess

* You may notice that I’ve tweaked my Hermie design and his colour scheme just a little bit. This is because white Hermie is dead and you know what? Good for him. I also made his hair a little wavier for Scam, you’ll start seeing the updated Hermie design (as if you can tell there’s a difference other than the very slight change in hairstyle) in lesson 16, because I drew the lesson 15 pages before episode 23 came out and I wasn’t going to go back and change them

* Stupid Joker tie. Hate it

* No sleepover fit for Hermie. Tragic. They need to have another sleepover and include him

Watching Hannibal for the first time

I watched the first three episodes of this beloved cult classic. Is this considered a cult classic? I don't know, but I do have opinions.

Right off the bat, this guy, Will Graham, he's okay. He is a guy, I loved that little scene in the first episode with all his dogs. I wish there were more character moments like this in the proceeding two episodes. Instead, it's just a lot of him being gifted and tortured. I do like that he is introduced as being on the Autism Spectrum. Other than that kinda dull.

Then there's this guy. I love him, I understand the hype. The second Mads Mikkelsen popped up on my screen I wanted to see more of him as Hannibal. He is instantly intriguing, so charming, completely unnerving, and yet I want to hold him gently in the moonlight.

This bitch, right here. Freddie has my blood pressure peaking. Even her hair pisses me off, I'm saying that as a white woman with very curly hair. This lady gets up every day and painstakingly styles that hair just so it can contaminate crime scenes. She dresses like Hanna Barbara villain to manipulate people.

The actual show itself, or at least the first three episodes, is pretty good. My biggest issue at the moment is Will, I just don't find him very interesting, compared to his counterpart, Hannibal. Also, some of the acting is lackluster.

I was surprised at how sexual this show is. I went into this basically blind and assumed any posts about it was typical Tumbler horniness. I say that with all the love in the world. However, this show is deeply sexual in all the ways that make your stomach turn.

Obviously, the relationship between Hobbs and Abigail has blatant incestuous tones. He wants to eat, and use every part of girls that look like his daughter. We also have the first scene with Freddie, naked and smiling, looking over crime scene photos. Of course, there's also Hannibal watching people eat the meals he makes them. It is all so sickening and the most enthralling part of the show so far. A little peek at how sex can wrap inside an unwell mind.

My absolute favorite part was the mushroom murders. What a way to start the second episode of a series. The makeup looked phenomenal. One was still alive. The killer being a pharmacist unlocked a new fear inside me. Such a neat concept, I cannot wait to watch more.

El has only worn a dress and makeup three times in the show, and each time Mike is involved, as well as a lie.

The first time is of course in season one, when the boys dress her up in a disguise so they can sneak her into school.

Mike also does her makeup. Now maybe this is just meant to be seen as a sweet romantic moment, but it’s also important that Mike is the one putting makeup on her, he’s the one dressing her up as something she’s not.

The point is that eventually the wig and the makeup come off, and the dress gets dirty. ‘Cause it’s not her. There’s even a moment where she looks at her reflection and rips the wig off, because it’s not her.

(The buzzcut isn’t her either, but that’s because she hasn’t ever had the chance to be herself)

The dress and makeup is also when El lies to the boys about the location of the gate.

But it’s when the outfit gets dirtied that she confesses her secret.

I should mention that I don’t think the show is trying to say that dresses and makeup is a bad thing, it’s just not El’s thing. Nancy wears makeup and dresses, and it’s not shown as a bad thing. But that’s Nancy’s style, El’s style tends to lean more androgynously. When she picks out her own clothes at the mall it’s mostly suspenders, collared shirt and pants/shorts, with splashes on femininity like scrunchies and bold pops of color. (And these clothes fit her form better too, because they fit her better.)

El is also wearing a dress and makeup in episode 4x02. We first see it at the airport when they’re picking up Mike.

When I first noticed this it struck me as a little… odd. Not that she doesn’t look good, but it feels out of character. It looks very grown up, especially compared to the makeup that we see any of the other girls wearing. Take Angela and Chrissy for example, who both wear makeup that feels much more age appropriate. (If anything I’m willing to bet that El asked Joyce to do her makeup that morning)

She’s also wearing this makeup and dress at Rink-O-Mania, where she continually lies to Mike.

But she gets caught up in her lie, and this dress get’s dirty too. (Not to mention the dress is very loose on her)

Now the odd one out seems to be her Snow Ball outfit when she dances with Mike.

The dress looks a little more like something she would have picked out (albeit it still looks a little loose on her) and the makeup is bright and more age appropriate. Plus, the dress does not get dirty.

Which makes sense, she wants to go to the Snow Ball. She’s happy to be there! And I think that’s all true, but it’s still interesting that the other two times she wears a dress it’s associated with a lie, so this is just a break in the pattern?

Unless, there is something that she’s being dishonest about, that the audience has not been explicitly told yet.

ted lasso 3.04 thoughts, mostly ted/rebecca related because i’m predictable:

they had scenes! sceneS!!!!! what is this, the year 2020?????? and they were both so fun!

i know i was really obsessing over the 1.04/2.04/3.04 parallel potential, and i feel like we got a spiritual successor to those first two episodes in the “am i a mess?” / “of course you are, that’s why we get along.” exchange. because that’s it!!!!!!

this is such a dorky takeaway, but after that scene with sassy at the beginning, i’m really like, “awwwww, rebecca really likes ted!!!!!!!” rebecca smiled at his “progmess” pun after sassy was like “puns = NO” and no one can take that away from me!

also, i feel like ted definitely asked sassy out to try to sort of “catch up” with michelle and the progress she’s made since they split. i really hope sassy’s fwb stance sticks (and hey, if they want to be f w/o b, that works for me too!), because i watch this show with a deranged and myopic agenda called tedbeccaism.

oklahoma! OKLAHOMA!!!!!! you know i wasn’t ready for that level of fanfic-attention-to-detail-level callback and then all of a sudden she just SAID IT! aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! rebecca still thinking about a conversation these guys had over a year ago!

the energy of this scene -- like, obviously i’m super biased, but it felt very light and fond and lovely, with the lighting and the feels-y background music -- makes me feel like where we’re going is: at this point they both genuinely have no idea that they could ever have romantic feelings for each other, but the show is starting to be like “hint hint” and the epiphany’s gonna hit when they least expect it.⚡

rebecca manically hyping up ted and ted being the one that’s like “okay, crazy” for once was very delightful to behold. also, sometimes one simply likes to watch her manhandle him a little. (this is TWO episodes in a ROW with PHYSICAL CONTACT after the long, long drought??? whoa now. what’s going on!)

i loved all the rebecca + rupert + bex stuff!! rebecca and bex clearly having a good vibe between them! rebecca telling rupert to quit messing around!!! EPIC!

nate is breaking my heart! i didn’t expect him to already be so ... nate again, with his evil-and-thriving veneer pretty absent, and i really like this writing choice. him missing his chance for a makeup handshake with ted because of RUPERT. :’( i also really like that ted is sticking to his guns re: not being mad at nate. and both nate and ted having little figures of each other and being emotional about it!

rupert giving nate the full relationship-with-a-narcissist treatment = :( :( :(. it’s so harrowing to watch.

are keeley and gladys from bomb girls going to be a THING??? or am i just reading sapphic subtext into every interaction with a new woman that keeley has?

mary from ghosts being smitten with rebecca is the most real.

why are jamie and roy acting so shippable this season? what’s--what’s up with that? whatever it is, it’s a delight. also, jamie canonically a pooh bear style sleeper.

Wonderful Precure Episode 10 Review - The Stray Cat On A Snowy Day

We’re finally at the double digits in terms of episode count and I’m here bawling at the sweet story of how Mayu and Yuki met. Wonderful Precure does a great job showing off my softer side when it comes to animal stories. I have a huge soft spot for animal stories, so I can’t help but to get emotional whenever there is a story about a human and an animal.

All the worries I had about Pretty Holic back in Episode 4 were for naught as the store is now bustling with customers. I’m so happy for the Nekoyashiki family. Sumire allows Mayu to design a new product for the store and Mayu spends the entire episode wondering what it is she could design. While some classmates like a few things she drew in class, she’s still not satisfied.

I do like how much of a creative Mayu is. She really has promise in the design world with her ideas and drive to create something pretty. She thought of compacts and lipsticks with cute designs. I also love that her motivation for her finalized product comes from Yuki who she loves dearly. I actually would like to see more episodes of Mayu designing things, whether it be makeup products or even clothes. Her sense of style is great.

The flashback of Mayu and Yuki’s first meeting was so cute. Though, it does feel a bit coincidental that Yuki is also an abandoned animal with a heart-shaped mark on the back of her head. The same applied with Komugi. Could this be a coincidence? Was it done on purpose? I love how Mayu does take her father’s advice by not being too handsy or smothering towards Yuki and wait for her to approach her. Sometimes, kids would be a bit too forceful, so Mayu being an obedient child shows a bit of her upbringing. I love how Yuki, a stray who didn’t like people, slowly melted over Mayu’s kindness and eventually allows herself to be adopted by her. It’s also interesting how these abandoned animals have stories regarding weather. Komugi was found on a rainy day and Yuki was found on a snowy day. It makes me wonder if Daifuku was an abandoned animal and if he was, was he found on a sunny day or on a stormy day?

I honestly love seeing how Mayu has such good parents. Sumire respects Mayu’s opinions but also asks her questions like if she’s satisfied with these designs. Since Sumire only has time to make one product, she tells Mayu that she wants her to make something that’ll make her happy. It’s really nice to see such a respectful mother. Her father is also great! During the flashback, he tells Mayu to not approach the stray cat as it could be dangerous and she heeds his advice. After taking Yuki home, he tells her about the responsibilities about caring for living things alongside Sumire, but Mayu says that she’ll be okay. They respect her and she respects them back. It’s such a wonderful thing to see.

There were a lot of funny aspects of this episode too like Komugi being nosy about what Mayu was doing and getting their teacher mad. She also talked to Mayu in her dog form, which almost got her busted had Iroha not stepped in. Komugi, try to be a bit more subtle! There’s also Friendy trying to get the raccoon to wash its hands but Satoru tells her that raccoons only put their hands in water because they want to catch fish and that they’re actually violent and nimble. There are a lot of raccoons where I live, but I’ve never really seen them violent. I only know raccoons are scavengers and nocturnal; to be honest, I’ve never seen one in person in my life.

Seeing how Yuki saw the Precures and the GaruGaru, it feels like her time to become human and a Precure draws near. When will it happen? I can’t wait to see what sort of personality and appearance Yuki will have. What are your thoughts on this episode?

In your latest Progression chapter I loved how Namphueng did the cake announcing her sexual identity. It was such great idea and now I wonder what other characters would make as the same cake? What are others sexualities/sexual identities? Do they identify somehow other than gay? Kinn and Chay are gays but what about others? Is Porsche bi or pan? What about Tankhun and Arm? Also Kim expressed somehow being genderfluid and he is definitely demisexual or grey asexual. I think it would be extremely interesting for all of them to have some kind of discussion like that.

Namphueng loved her cake too LOL. She was very proud of it. I spent a while thinking of how the cake would look. While I couldn't find a cake that described what I wanted her to do, I did look up some reference pics for inspiration. Here are several that kind of fit some aspects of the style!

If you mix the aspects of these cakes all together, you sort of get what Namphueng accomplished. Girl worked HARD. It was so important to her because:

1. She remembers her first love, or at least bits and pieces. She remembers loving her deeply. I think creating a cake so elaborate and more suited for a small wedding was her way of committing to her true self, along with finding the woman she loved and clearly still loves.

2. She may have struggled with being her true self or being open about her relationship first time around. She isn't doing it anymore because every bit of her autonomy and happiness was kept from her.

So, yes! In Progression, Namphueng very much identifies as a lesbian. As for the other characters, some are probably up for interpretation, but I guess this is how I view them (at least for this fic).

Kim: I also see him as demisexual or sex positive ace. I think he is enjoying sex with Chay. A LOT. But he can only come to enjoy sex if he is in love with and feels comfortable with the person he is sleeping with. Since he struggles with being so guarded, Chay is his first. I think his romantic orientation is likely panromantic, but his trauma and seeing so many people in his family get hurt/killed likely made him push the idea of romance away for a long time.

As for the potential for him being gender fluid, I don't think it is something he feels like he needs to find a label for, but wouldn't deny it if asked. I think he does certain things and presents himself in a way that feels right. He likely leans towards more masculine presentations, but likes light makeup on occasion, doesn't align with overt masculinity or societal expectations for men, etc. I think he also likes looking good for himself, and sometimes looking softer and slightly more feminine is something that appeals to him.

Overall, I believe he struggles with labels for multiple reasons. He doesn't like following traditional or strict expectations, nor is he great at communicating clearly (although he is getting a lot better). I think he also falls into this limbo in between labels, so he doesn't know what to make of it. He struggles with seeing himself as asexual (especially now) since he is having a very enjoyable sex life with Chay. He should probably should look into demisexual. I think it will be something that eventually comes up, even though he doesn't feel a NEED to find a label. However, an explanation and a sense of knowing he isn't the only one may help. 🙂

Porsche: I think he is probably pan, but could also be bi. Episode 8 showed him express minor anxiety over dating a guy, although I don't know if it was the emotional or physical aspect that worried him more. Regardless, I tend to categorize him a little more as pan since that tends to take a meaning of "experiences sexual attraction regardless of gender". However, I also see him as demiromantic.

Khun: Despite his and Kim's personalities being extremely different, I also see him as demisexual, panromantic. Part of his demisexuality likely stems from immense trauma since he needs to be with someone who understands him and he's comfortable with, but I don't think the gender of that person matters. In fics, I often mention him having a girlfriend prior to his kidnapping. I believe I did in this fic too. Now, he's very much in love with Arm. And like Kim, he also might be gender fluid, but doesn't over think it and just does what feels right.

Arm: He's a hard one, but he could be demisexual too, and he may lean towards homoromantic. That isn't to say he doesn't like to be seductive though. He takes his shirt off when drunk for a reason. However, I do think he was repressing a lot of desires until he became more comfortable with Khun. So yeah, maybe demisexual/homoromantic.

Pol: He says he's straight! But I also think he is a guy who needs and deserves a lot of love. I don't see him hooking up with just any woman or being in a FWB situation. He is probably heteroromantic, but does find a lot of satisfaction in platonic love too.

Vegas: gay, but demiromantic.

Pete: demisexual, biromantic

Macau: He's saying he's straight in this fic, but I don't see him sleeping around like his brother likely used to.

Kinn and Chay : gay and gay

Milan's sexual and romantic orientation will also become more clear in flashbacks as well.
