Notes:

-HK can NOT catch a break. "The Hollow" could be a name too.

-The Broken is based off the Broken Vessel.

-This world probably gets infested by rot to mirror the infection, but PK somehow quarantined himself away from it. He still mysteriously dies anyways though lmao

-WL can't really do anything with her structure and is missing her arms to boot. Maybe self-inflicted to mirror her source game? (The taboo would stop her from dying of course, but would it stop her from doing that?) Also it was hard to interpret her into iterator form, her antennae are WEIRD

-I had considered pale king/white lady as ancients and vessels as iterators, but slugcat protags felt more fitting for rain world.

-I drew the Radiance as a void worm before realizing that her being an iterator that purposefully spread the rot would be WAY more fitting on every level. Void Entity for void worm instead maybe?? I don't want to draw it right now though xP

so the thing with slay the princess is the shifting mound calls the protagonist a passive player but in essence they are the only one in this little pocket of universe with any agency or ability to act which is in part bc of their role as vessel for the player but also because that is their role. the problem is that the protagonist has no goal. they are an entirely fresh person who does not know any of this? does not have a purpose. they are the long quiet because that is what they were made to be but that isn't an identity that is a role and one that is undefined. and there is the narrator, a fixed, unchanging agent meant to provide this purpose, except the shifting mound has one too, and needs the agency of the protagonist to complete it's purpose. everything depends on the only one in this whole thing that can make the choice to change because the shifting mound calls them passive but it is entirely at their whims and must plead its case in the face of the one person who can do anything about this entire situation and it's nature is reaction, not action, built on impressions molded by the protagonist. everything hinges on them and yet the most they have is echoes of motivation and ideas that are themselves built on the ideas fed to them . and all they know is this recursive loop of information . there is nothing to define the protagonist but the incomplete beings, ideas, that make up their surrounding. the protagonist is made up of the perceptions and thoughts and ideas of the echo that is the narrator and the shifting mound itself and the plan is for this person who's only memories and ideas of existence are of the princess and revolve around the shifting mound's intentions to somehow kill a being that is only what it is perceived? the narrator's origin split a god in half then made it so those two halves would only know each other could only know each other and expected this to result in erasure??? did he not think a practically newly created entire whole person would not be curious and would not grow like a person would.

No one asked for this but i'm thinking about the parallels between the hollow knight and jonathan sims.

The hollow knight was an empty vessel, chosen among its thousands of siblings as the one to contain the infection spreading across the kingdom. A godking's best attempt at salvaging the civilization he built out of pride and beauty. It has no will, no mind and no heart. The perfect thing for the pale king to use to contain the infection. It could have been any other of its siblings. It could only have been it.

Jonathan sims was led to Jonah Magnus by the Web. A lamb to the slaughter, with ultimately no agency in life. Jon was doomed to start the apocalypse the moment he took his first breath and the Weaver started spinning its threads. Jon was selected out of billions of others to be the person to start the apocalypse. It could have been anyone else. It could only have been him.

The hollow knight grew to care for the pale king. The simple act of love, of seeking affection and offering your own pitiful attempt at love in return - it broke everything. The hollow knight was not a pure vessel. The hollow knight started to be unable to contain the infection, and desperately reaches out to any of its siblings that may be alive to take this burden from it, and to save what the pale king had created.

The Web passes the job of Jon's grooming for the apocalypse onto the Eye (while it continues spinning behind the curtain) and Jonah Magnus watches, and works his magic. Jon looks up to Elias (Jonah) and seeks his approval, a carrot he wants badly enough that he cannot see the stick behind it, nor will he until it's far too late. He takes the job as archivist and though it is his choice, he could never have known what consequences it would have. Jon will start the apocalypse, and doom the world in turn.

The hollow knight stabs itself, during the final boss battle. Many people interpret this as a ragged, broken attempt to rid itself of the infection. Perhaps it is hurting itself out of self-hatred and rage that it could not be enough to contain the infection. Perhaps it is trying to wound the infection, in the vain hope that the infection will suffer for what it has wrought upon him.

In the series finale, Jon wishes he had the courage to stab himself. With his Sight, he is now able to see the Web's threads being spun and pulled every which way. He himself was and always had been so caught between the threads of spider silk that he never stood a chance. At night he wonders if any of his actions were truly his own. He looks at martin, the love of his life, and wonders if martin is just another step in the Mother of Puppet's plan. Jon hates himself for what he has done, and he hates the Web.

In all three of the main endings, the hollow knight dies. Wracked with guilt, aching to be hollow like it was meant to. It all three of them, the hollow knight dies, doomed to failure, the world suffering because of it.

Jon dies, curled in his lover's arm as he vainly wishes that things could have ever gone differently. There is no happy ending for him.

The narrative had doomed them both from the beginning. Their only choice was to fail. The world depended on them succeeding. They hold themselves accountable for it all, despite being groomed their whole lives and possessing no agency in the story of their life. Everything is their fault. They never asked for this. They only wanted to love and to be loved.

that one character you absolutely love and adore with all your heart and soul and every headcanon you see of them is immediately canon and you want to draw fanart of them and share you throughts on them but they keep bouncing around in your brain and they won't hold still for you to have at least one coherent thought about them and I'm going to cry let me show my love for you pls-
