MOST OF MY FAMILY DOES CRQZY THINGS BUT THIS ONE TAKES THE CAKE! 🛫 William C. "Wild Bill" Hopson: A WWII pilot...He flew airmail routes for 8 years, often earning the "Wild Bill" nickname. He was well known by most in airmail pilot circles, and by many outsiders as well. 🛩 One of his better known escapades involved the need to get to a particular city for a date with a young lady. Unable to secure another means of getting there, Wild Bill clung to the outside of another pilot's airplane - laying on the wing and hanging on to the wing's guy wires for the duration of the two hour flight.... 🛬 Wild Bill died in 1928, when the Airmail Plane he was piloting exploded in mid air. My grandpa, Harmon Sr., despite being a railroad worker himself, arm robbed a train for $1.25 with a shotgun. He was arrested and placed in Huttonsville, a minimum security prison. About a year later, built a bomb, which allegedy blew a guard's ear off but did not kill anyone, and he escaped. While on the run, he fled to a cemetery and set up camp. In those days people could not be arrested from sacred spaces such as churches and cemeteries, so he knew as long as he stayed there, he could not be captured. He lived on the grave yard for a month and something, with my grandma bringing him food and clothes, until the weather started getting cold. It was then that he told her "Tell them come get me." My Great-Grandma, Pearl May Daniels. This photo was taken in the early 1950s in McDowell County, WV. She was a mean, rough, gun-toting lady who didn't take no attitude from anybody. I met her only a couple times when I was little. Her funeral was the first I ever attended. I remember her wearing a purple dress with little pink flowers all over it.
