If I’m being honest, all the Tallulah redesigning is kinda hurting me inside.

It’s cool for her to look more like Missa and have some more of the death family aesthetic and all, and obviously I understand why they gave her a new model.

But, cc!Wilbur aside, q!Wilbur WAS and still IS very important to her. Their relationship when he was around was genuinely really good and genuinely really sweet, and she very clearly still cares a lot about him. Heck, there’s still a LOT about her that comes from him, a lot that we love about her — her love of music, her overdramaticism, so much of what makes her who she is is because of her being Wilbur’s kid. I don’t like the idea of her connection to him being left entirely in the past. It doesn’t make sense, it’s unnecessary, and it’s painful given how genuinely good their relationship when he was around was.

Yes, q!Phil has at this point been parenting her for a lot longer and been much more present in her life and they’ve been through a lot more together and he’s definitely had influence on her as well, but her connection to q!Wilbur is not Unimportant or Less Important because of that, and I don’t like the feeling that it’s being seen as such and that people are lowkey trying to erase it or bury it.

I get it, cc!Wilbur sucks absolute butt, but q!Wilbur is not cc!Wilbur and does not have to have in any of that in common with him. Heck, to my memory he never displayed any behavior particularly lining up with any of that on qsmp. And I get it, q!Wilbur has been gone for a LONG time and has missed a LOT, but plenty of people on here have talked already about how that isn’t his choice and doesn’t mean he cares any less or wasn’t a good parent when he was around. This attitude some people seem to be taking of “she has Phil and Chayanne and Missa now! they’re the family that stepped up! who needs her old deadbeat dad! she’s moving on!” is really unnecessary and unfounded.

Tallulah being very much also Phil’s kid at this point does not mean she isn’t still Wilbur’s kid, and neither q!Wilbur’s absence nor cc!Wilbur’s grossness means that she shouldn’t be. And I don’t like that it feels like people are forgetting that, or trying to.

Her looking like Wilbur was a constant visual signal of the fact that she IS still q!Wilbur’s kid as much as she is q!Phil’s too now, that the connections between her and q!Wilbur still very much exist, and I don’t like that that’s being taken away from. And I really don’t like that everycreature seems so eager to bury it.

alr to help with the Great QSMP Content Drought of 2024 im gonna empty all the death family headcanons in my brain onto this tumblr dot com post

all these are cubitos unless stated otherwise btw i just didnt want to go through and indicate every name lmao

(also to my qpr deathduo homies (luv yas) I'm a bit of a romantic pissa truther so be warned about that)(but i also suck at writing romance so it's pretty subtle also most of these are about chayanne)

remember last year when Chayanne was almost always asleep because the admin was too busy? i think that his ties to death pulled his conscious into Kristin's domain whenever he slept, so he just spent his time chilling over there (i simply choose to ignore the fact that she isn't canon)

Tallulah can clearly see and hear spirits, all her brother can see are blurry figures and the occasional whisper

Chay's wings started growing feathers very early on, Phil had to pretend he had no idea where they came from whilst also assuring a heavily sobbing Missa that he didn't cheat on him

no one has known fear like a fed worker that tried to touch Chayanne's wings in the early days and almost lost their hands to a newly-grounded crow

unrelated to that Philza Minecraft puts the 'death' in 'death-glare'

Chayanne's first attempts of jumping off the wall on day one were baby-crow instincts but after that he was just doing it for his dads' reactions

Phil saw it for the first time at the prison when Missa's mask and hood slipped off in his sleep (entirely Chayanne's fault) and was completely normal about it end definitely went back to sleep and didn't stay up staring between Missa's hair and the ceiling.

upon stealing a kiss from Missa, Quackity had to sit down for a few minutes because he couldn't comprehend the texture of Missa's face

Phil was fine tho. he's kissed death plenty of times

sunny talking about phil's tone was so important. i know that sign was about their conversation today, but i'm petty sure it applies to her reaction to phil in general. i really hope tubbo or phil start to realize but i'm very happy the admin decided to play it like this. a lot of times it feels like everyone just expects parents and eggs to get along unless something bad happens but this is a very realistic way for kids to react to new adults.

if you just look at words fit has said similar things around her but his tone makes it very clear (imo) that it's just a bit and he usually follows up with compliments as well. phil's tone is harder to decipher (again, imo) and sometimes he doubles down with a more serious note. the first day they met, for example, he made a lot of jokes about the train tubbo built for her and then after he got an explanation for why it was done that way he followed up with a more serious comment about how tubbo still needed to build something better.

obvioulsy we know tubbo was fine with all of it, but i think him playing into the bit made it sound even worse from sunny's perspective. they don't know phil or his mannerisms yet. all they know is he's someone their pa respects but who doesn't seem to respect much other than his skill with create. and phil doesn't realize the effect he's having because he's not trying to be mean or scary, he's just acting as he normally would.

I don’t have much to add here, because I do think it’s pretty on point.

Sunny’s admin does a wonderful job of creating an interesting dynamic with the whole Death family. It’s somehow so different from any other on the server. All the layers of this: Phil being a respectable adult and yet seeming judgmental (like she said); Tallulah being the sweetest person in the words of others, and yet being so cold at the start; Chayanne, who is kind and warm and seems to care, but you know that it’s only by extent of caring for dad. Sunny is in a situation, where she wants to fit in, wants to love and be loved, but at the same time nothing is ever quite right.

This is a great storytelling. I am sure there will be a happy ending for the Death Family+ (lmao), but right now there’s a lot to polish.

I wasn't able to watch Quackity's stream just now but from what I'm getting, it's a really unfortunate development

Basically that Quackity is stepping away from the QSMP for a bit and leaving the Administration of it to other people due to fear for his personal safety, and this next part might be slightly unrelated, but it's something I've been kinda wanting to say for a bit, and this gives me a good chance to do it

I remember a lot of people wondering why Admins had to stay anonymous to the public and this sort of thing is why. If experienced streamers, who are used to dealing with this sort of thing, are going through this, imagine what could have happened to the Admins if people found out who they were

Like imagine we knew exactly who was behind the Code attacks that killed Bobby, Tallulah, or Dapper. You really think people wouldn't have dog-piled on them because they killed their favorite Egg?? Imagine people knew who Leo or Sunny's admins were during all their "drama." People were already crossing boundaries before they knew who the admins were, and I don't think it would have gone well if that information were out in the open at the time

To me, it didn't seem like a good idea to throw people who were inexperienced with this into the spotlight like that. And THIS is why. People are still dog-piling on anyone they think is the problem, and that isn't okay. Quackity just talked about how scared he was for his actual personal safety, and that's not okay. People get the smallest scrap of information and latch onto it like it's gospel, and things like this happen. It's why I haven't even made a post about some recent developments, because I know a lot of what's being spread is speculation, and I don't like to spread around things I don't have concrete information on. Maybe if CERTAIN things were more open, this all wouldn't have been as big a problem, but the fact that this is the end result kinda makes their privacy more understandable

Because this is the kind of thing it leads to. Everyone demands every bit of information, pressuring people to the point that they just want to do SOMETHING to get people off their backs even a little bit. As far as I know, Lea DID NOT mean to leak that kind of information, but she was being bombarded for information, and just tried to provide some evidence for what she was saying, and probably didn't realize that it could lead to this (That's if the information I have on that is correct, that she basically leaked a payment document that had Quackity's full legal name, and that's how people managed to track down his information. If this isn't correct, please let me know, I haven't seen enough information on it to verify 100%)

(And I wanna say that this isn't me excusing the fact that the Admins couldn't talk to each other or the CCs when it was relevant to the server. That sort of thing is a textbook manipulation tactic from bosses who want to take advantage of their workers and using the lack of information as a weapon to that end)

I said before that I NEVER expected concrete updates about everything, just hoped for acknowledgements that things were still happening at all. Because the fact that streamers are in the public eye doesn't mean everything they do needs to be public knowledge. People online love to criticize paparazzi for constantly bombarding celebrities and invading their personal lives, but this is starting to feel startlingly similar, and I don't like that. Yes, the people involved should have that information, but we should not

I really hope people manage to stay safe through all this, including Quackity and each and every Admin/Ex-Admin that's been at the center of this. There are some things going around them that I don't agree with, but that doesn't mean I wish harm on them for it. That's the magical thing about the internet. You can just not interact with people you don't agree with, and I really wish some people would remember that. Especially over on Twitter. Because Holy Shit

Anyways, that's about all I have for now, probably won't be too active for a bit still because of IRL stuff, but I'm still here. Watching

I’m making another compilation video and while I was gathering clips I noticed the difference in how some eggs cope with boredom. Like I get it since during parts of the streams where their parents are having a long ass conversation with each other it reminds me a lot of my younger self when my mom catches up with her friends or relatives and I have to sit there listening to the conversation giving my mother subtle hints that I want to go home cause I was so bored out of my ass which is of course ignored every single damn time lol. I guess that experience is such a universal thing that it also applies to pixelated egg children in a block game 😂

As far as I’ve seen these are how the eggs deal with boredom.

Chayanne: when he’s bored out of his mind he digs out a pattern on the ground and replaces it with potato crates, creating a checkerboard pattern of potato crate and whatever the original block on the ground is. Chayanne also likes to jump around a lot whenever he’s bored.

Tallulah: Tallulah just lays down flat on the ground whenever she’s bored. This happens a lot when Phil is having a conversation with other people and she is left with nothing to do or add to the conversation. Sometimes she uses the idle time as a chance to organize and reorganize her backpacks.

Ramon and Dapper: I don’t follow them enough to know more about their individual coping mechanisms to boredom but I know that Ramon likes to climb things and use his potato launcher to shoot random things a lot. I don’t know much about Dapper but the twins together like to use their grapple thingy and hang around in a room like an egg piñata. Both of them also Mary Poppins out random machines from their pockets and work on that while adults are talking.

I’d love to follow other eggs too but I’m just not capable of following all Cc’s povs. I’m upset because I think Pomme is such a cutie patootie, Leo is such an egg full of personality, and of course our wonderful artist Richas is so funny to watch with all his dads but I don’t know much about them but I really want to. I really don’t think I have a favorite egg but I have eggs that seem like my faves because their parents are the ones I watch the most and thus I know more about them than other eggs but seriously considering it, all the eggs, dead or alive, I adore equally in my heart.

So if you guys can help me out by telling me everything you know and love about each of the eggs, even the ones who left us (still hoping temporarily), please reply or add to this post. In the future I want to make a huge thread post of all information about the eggs like the ones above focusing more on exploring each egg’s personality and preferences. I love how they are played by actual admins and thus each have their own distinct personalities and contribution to the lore.

i was going to make this a separate post but ill just answer this here. also im obviously going to be biased bc i see some eggs more than others and ofc i miss out on a good chunk of lore bc i only know english. so if im wrong, theres a reason for that!

my hot take is that roleplaying as a child > any other lore crafted. so that shapes the bulk of this list. AND NO SLANDER THEY ALL DO REALLY WELL, THIS LIST IS NITPICKY BC I OVERALL LOVE THEM ALL.

dapper: I SWEAR IM NOT (COMPLETELY) BIASED. a few months ago, dapper's admin would be quite lower, however he's really gone crazy with rp recently. his body language is really cute and feels very childlike, and i really enjoy how he saves emotional sucker-punches when you least expect it. his deathday signs hit that much harder because he rarely shares his feelings. the soul vulture lore was really well drawn-out with a great pay-off. and it all felt very in character and gave so much character development. if dapper openly shared his feelings all the time with bad, i dont think any of this would feel as powerful.

leo: leo feels so much like a character, and i mean that entirely positively. whenever i see her, i feel like i dont even think of QNPC05, i just think LEO. shes spoiled and bratty but in an adorable way, her body language just screams CHILD, and her use of different heads is so fun. also she was the first egg to use colored signs! she has a lot of worries and social anxiety, but i feel like whenever she communicates these to foolish, it never feels info-dumpy. its actually very impressive how much emotion she can put across just through body language.

richarlyson: i actually was wondering if richas should be lower and everyone raises their pitchforks. i know. hear me out. i really like how detailed richas' admin does his lore HOWEVER i sometimes feel like he doesn't act baby enough. idk. theres something about how leo and dapper emote, and even their worries and insecurities, that makes me see them as much younger. that being said, richas' dedication to family conflict is really well-done and something that more eggs should do. (and for everyone disagreeing with me, i know. i know why im wrong. but i just cant help the vibes i get im sorry?). i get a lot of cuteness agression when he shifts to check if people are following him tho 10/10

tallulah: tallulah and pomme are interchangeable bc they both do what i DONT prefer in rp, which is writing out your feelings. dont get me wrong, its great to know the eggs' thoughts, but those sort of angst dumps just dont hit as hard every stream. tallulah just edges out pomme bc she is a bit more irrational, and makes a lot of mistakes, which i think is a brave move in rp.

pomme: pomme has a really well-crafted character, but, again, i really prefer eggs who are harder to figure out vs eggs who lay all their feelings out. pomme is a bit too influential in bbh's lore decisions imo, sometimes i think she should let things play out a bit further before she tries to reign him back. i know shes just rping, but metawise, i think the admin should let him cook a little longer. i do really think she has a great "child soldier" vibe going on, which feels v much uniquely hers. i just think she could take more risks in rp, pomme is a very logical egg but she's still just a child. i dont want her to always choose the logical answer, i want to see how her young perceptions can force her to make a wrong decision.

ramon: ramon is sort of a weird case in that hes ABOVE tallulah/pomme cause he doesnt do what i dislike. however hes below them in general characterization. that being said, hes really underrated in his relationship with fit, and has some very gut-punching one liners. but hes also kind of like richas where i know LOGICALLY he does roleplay like a kid but i just. the vibes are not the same as dapper and leo. what can i do about that. hes just too competent i guess.

chayanne: chayanne is another egg thats hard for me to catch on stream, but i havent really felt any standout moments from 01 or 06 (however i think 01 plays best cucurucho). idk. i know chayanne's personality pretty well, i just need something...more. maybe i just tune in at the wrong times? i DO love his opinions on philever tho lmaoo. i think his best moment was when he kept trying to fight while quackity repeatedly told him he wasnt strong (reinforcing his greatest fear). and i think the fact that chayanne isnt placed in more dangerous situations really hinders his development (since hes understanding of why phil keeps him protected).

It would be hard to sum up Tallulah's character entirely, you made the post about her as a character and wanting to make her a MC in a fic, I think I could do a pretty good job? ALSO, the QSMP wiki hasn't been updated since June, but it's pretty well filled out. Tallulah's character typically seen as a very polite, 'well-behaved' child who always listens, is caring and considerate and is considered the server's 'princess'. She's a disabled character (hard of hearing, sensitive ears w/ hearing aids, autistic, asthma so badly it hurts her), she has abandonment issues w/ serious trauma from water and death. She was found locked inside an attic, so she hates tight and enclosed spaces. She's actually quite 'sassy' and poetic, and will use English mostly, her admin (so her character as well) tend to prefer Spanish for speaking. She also fears being seen as a burden and has only recently began to break away from her 'quiet' nature and asked qPhil to adopt her as his daughter until QWil came back. Behaviors, if you're writing her; she uses maracas to get someone's attention and she only does it a few times before waiting. She's a very dramatic character as well and depends on Chayanne as support/protector (with this, she also helps Chayanne process stuff that has happened) Her main ideals is wanting to live in peace with her 'family' (phil, wil, niki, tubbo, chay, etc), and she's not super close to the other eggs other than Pomme. It leads often to her being stubborn and refusing to consider the other eggs' sides (example being dapper being kidnapped, and dapper and pomme were complaining about being left alone for 5 minutes, saying they were 'abandoned', and tallulah holding it against them with something like 'yeah 'abandoned' i wonder how that feels.; or Richas and her having a fight over a drawing, and Tallulah told Richas if he wants the painting back, he will get it, but he will lose a sister. She's much more open about her emotions and feelings, though. She's the sarcastic one of the two eggs Phil takes care off, is very melodramatic, and enjoys music as she plays flutes specifically as well as maracas. She's also considerably careful and always listens to Phil despite it all. Other things I could note; her favorite color(s) is purple and pink, she's specifically Mexican, and her interests include writing, gardening, and music. I think that's a good start, I would suppose?

Dear Tallulah

I was lucky enough to catch Wilbur’s last stream with Tallulah and all i could think about is how amazing storytelling is. There’s a reason humanity’s always done it. And this story of an unwilling father falling in love with his sensitive, creative daughter is truly special because it had a lot of circumstances going against it - wilbur’s tours - and yet got to have a nice conclusion and tells a wonderful story. And i know somewhere out there Tallulah’s admin will have gotten a genuinely positive and nice experience from getting to tell the story with Wilbur and creating an amazing little dragon egg of a character

I hope they dont have too bad of a care of parasocial relationship because holy shit how do you recover from being a CC’s minecraft child lmao

It was also interesting to be able to catch this last bubble of time before a great change - Wilbur’s leaving until june and he knows the Qsmp wont be the same when he comes back and hell he wont be the same either

Its interesting, enjoying the present but knowing its about to change, but knowing the future will be nice too and just to keep going despite change and endings

Itll be sad to see wilbur’s base stay the same while more people join and more things are built everywhere else, a bubble where time stopped

Dear Fundy,

I'm sure I'm the last guy you want to hear from, and I'm sorry. I hope this letter finds you well and in a time of great fortune. I don't expect to hear back from you, but I'd welcome it openly if you did write back.

I let you down. I was supposed to be a father. I was supposed to protect you and teach you what it meant to be a good man… I wasn't as good as I claimed, we both know that.

And instead of doing it right, I spent my first attempt teasing you. It wasn't my intention to push you away, it just turned out like that. Unfortunately, I didn't have experience and it showed. Sure, I'd raised Tommy but- raising your brother and then raising your son are two very different scenarios…

I couldn't decide whether to treat you like I did Tommy or to mimic those dads on TV… I didn't really have much to base my parenthood off of. Phil was always busy (even though he tried) and Sally- she couldn't stay even if she'd wanted to.

Fundy, you deserved better than I could offer. And as if my failed attempt to be your father wasn't a kick in the gut enough, I had the audacity to be a good father to Tallulah. I'm sure you and Tommy weren't pleased with the outcomes… I'm sorry.

I did try. They say you live and learn, but- you needed me and I wasn't there. Now I spend a lot of my time wondering if I'll ever find you this life. Wondering if I might be lucky enough to have another chance despite all of the mistakes I made.

Fundy, I never meant to make you feel as if I was belittling you or underestimating you when I said things like "Look at my little Champion!" and if that's what you felt, I'm truly sorry. Truth is, I always assumed you were just trying to hide how happy you were when I said it, but I never took the time to think twice about it beyond that.

In reality, I really was proud of you. I was bursting with pride, joy, love, and adoration for you and felt like I just couldn't hold it back… I'd watched people passing by with their kids. I'd watched TV and seen how the dads interacted with their sons… how the mom's interacted too! I felt like, since Sally couldn't be there, I had to do double.

Despite my lack of attention given, I really was proud. Seeing you run in the elections brought such mixed emotions- on one hand I was hurt… I felt betrayed. "Even my son wants to oppose me" I thought…

And then, on the other hand, I was overflowing with pride. "Look at my son!" I thought, "If anyone deserves to be president of L'Manburg, it's Fundy!"

I wish I'd said it. I wish I'd told you how genuinely proud I was of you. I wish I'd sat down with you… brought out the fishing rods! I wish I'd done more, and I'm sorry I didn't.

I get it if you might never forgive me, but I hope that your life now is the best it can be. I hope you have a wonderful network of support. I hope your dad this time is better, that he says all the things I didn't get around to putting into words…

Empanada’s nice, you like Empanada. You like Em. It’s Sunny you’re not a fan of. Sunny’s just all in your face with money and sunglasses and shit. But, like, Sunny’s fine too. Sunny’s just a bit much though. Sunny takes a while to get used to.

Yes, that was a quote from Phil. It's a pretty good representation of how he talks about Sunny. He was laughing while he said it and I truly don't think he was trying to be unkind but the word choice and comparison to Empanada were not good. I've seen people claiming that he praises them when they're not around but his usual way of complimenting her also tends to involve some less than favorable phrases.

This was a conversation between him, Chayanne, and Tallulah so I think anyone who doesn't watch Phil missed it and most people who do brushed it off because they were more focused on the rest of the conversation. It starts at about 5:21 in the vod from the 29th. He did make a lot of good points and I'd recommend watching the whole thing. He did a good job of handling Tallulah's concerns over the new eggs and comparing it to his own experience when the older eggs showed up, talking about egg island, and coming up with a plan to help Tallulah feel comfortable.

Like I said in my first ask I know part of my frustration is with how other people react to his character. I get that he's not doing it on purpose. I don't mind conflict between them. I think it's really interesting that one of the people at the top of Tubbo's list is at the bottom for his daughter. I don't like the fact that people act like he's doing nothing wrong and it's all a misunderstanding. He is doing something wrong and it's a genuine character flaw that he doesn't seem to realize how bad his phrasing can be. But if he didn't have flaws he would be a boring and unrealistic character. This story is more realistic than a lot of what happens on the QSMP which is part of what makes it interesting to analyze and I think it's going to be a great opportunity for storytelling and character growth on both sides.

Okay, thank you, never heard this part before. And it’s like an expanded version of what he told Tallulah on the day they woke up. Wild.

And yeah, I agree. Criticizing character’s behavior is not equal to disliking the storyline or dynamic. Phil and Sunny’s admin do a great job rping this, that is exactly why there are so many discussions and analysis! You can call out characters for being dicks without wishing a pristine and idealistic relationship between everyone.

I enjoy this story so much. It’s so intriguing. I wonder how they will navigate it further. c!Phil does a great job portraying his character and his flaws. But q!Phil is a dick towards Sunny and should try better.

October was crisp and cool with bitter winds and overcast skies. It rained for the first week of the month and the wind nearly knocked trees down. But Katya loved it. October was her favorite month. She loved to watch the vibrant leaves fall from tree branches and drink hot cider. Autumn had never been Trixie’s favorite season, but watching Katya get so excited over Halloween decorations made her realize how much she could actually grow to love it. October was also the month Trixie realized she loved Katya. She didn’t chose to label it as romantic love at first, but she knew that there was no other explanation for the way her heart swelled in her chest when she saw her or how she started to care about things she never gave a second thought to, simply because Katya loved them, and she loved Katya. Katya, on the other hand, was moving far slower. She had spent the past three months surprising the feelings she couldn’t bear to face. Love was difficult for her. She couldn’t risk being hurt again, and as much as she wanted to love Trixie with everything she had, she just couldn’t.

“Tallulah, I have an idea,” Katya said. She was sitting on the edge of Trixie’s bed, swinging her feet back and forth and watching as Trixie did her eyeliner.

“What is it?” Trixie asked without looking away from the mirror.

“We should get an apartment.”

“What?” Trixie had turned away from her reflection to look at Katya with genuine confusion.

“We should move in together,” Katya said nonchalantly. “Like roommates.”

“Why?” Trixie asked. It was the only word she could get to come out of her mouth.

“What do you mean why?” Katya asked indignantly. She pulled her legs up underneath her and made a pouting face. “Because you need to get out of your house and I need to figure out how to live without my family. I’m 19 years old and I just feel like it’s time for me to get my own place and there’s no one I’d rather do it with than you, Toby.” Trixie’s face began to heat up. Thoughts were running through her mind that she didn’t know how to express.

“O…Okay,” she stammered. It was the most impulsive thing she’d ever done. A smile spread across Katya’s face, her clear, grey eyes shining. Trixie smiled with her. She couldn’t help it: seeing Katya happy made her happy too. Suddenly, Katya leapt off the bed and pulled Trixie into an ecstatic hug. She began dancing around the room and practically sang with happiness.

“Trixie Mattel, we’re gonna be roommates!” she exclaimed, and took both of Trixie’s hands in hers. “I’m gonna live with my best friend this is gonna be so fucking fun!” Trixie paused and dropped her hands.

“Wait..did you just say I’m your best friend?” she asked. Katya felt a twinge of anxiety in her stomach as she realized what she had just said. There wasn’t any way to play this off.

“Well, I mean…yeah I would say so..well..one of them at least” she said hesitantly.

“I think you’re my best friend too,” Trixie said. Katya was beaming at her and threw her arms around Trixie again. She smelled like her flowery shampoo. Trixie stroked her bleach blonde hair as the two of them rocked back and forth, still wrapped in each other’s arms.

They told their parents about their plan to move out on the same day. Katya’s parents had been delighted. Trixie’s parents had seemed relieved. They started looking for apartments two weeks later. They went through about 14 before settling on a small studio apartment with a slightly cramped kitchen, a cozy space for a TV and room for two twin beds that had to be in the same room. At first, the two of them were unsure about sharing a bedroom, but Katya convinced Trixie that it would just be like having a sleepover every night. And besides, she had said, this is the only one we can afford anyway. They decided it was the one.

“I think this place could feel like home in no time,” Katya said, pushing the curtains open, letting a billowing cloud of dust float through the beam of sunlight shining through the window.

“As long as you’re here, I’ll feel at home no matter what,” Trixie said. She was serious, of course, but she tried her best to use a joking tone to disguise her sincerity.

“Awwww, baaabe,” Katya drawled, mimicking Trixie’s tone. They giggled together for a moment and were left in a moment of silence, standing side by side in what would soon become their new home: their new adventure together.

Halloween was the last night before they moved in. They had planned to drive upstate to visit Ginger for her dorm’s Halloween party. They sat in Trixie’s room again as Katya was painting Trixie’s eyelids with blue glitter.

“You’re going to look so good,” she said. Katya’s face was covered in white foundation, with fake blood smeared across her jawline and one of her sharp cheekbones. She said her costume was “sexy zombie nurse” and it was completed by a white paper hat with a red cross that was nestled into Katya’s bird nest of hair. Trixie had wanted to go as Barbie but Katya said,

“I will only let you do that if you agree to be a zombie too,” to which Trixie reluctantly agreed. Katya was delicately applying dark purple eyeshadow under Trixie’s eyes and leaned in closer to get a better view at her work.

“Our faces are very close together,” Trixie said with a nervous laugh. Katya lowered her eyes and spoke in a deep voice.

“Are you gonna kiss me Trixie Mattel?” she asked. They looked into each other’s eyes before Katya burst into laughter. Trixie’s heart sank. She forced herself to lighten up and just go with it.

“Bitch, maybe,” she said, laughing along now. Katya grabbed Trixie’s face and brought them both as close together as they could be without actually touching.

“Fuck me in the ass, Barbara,” she whispered in a ridiculous voice. Trixie couldn’t focus on Katya’s humor. All she could think about was Katya’s breath on her lips and her steely eyes staring into her soul. Katya herself was just trying to be funny but in this very moment she found herself feeling a pang of longing for herself to be able to express her actual desires regarding Trixie. She wanted to kiss her. She wanted to be able to kiss her and not regret it. She wanted so badly to be able to love Trixie the way she deserved, but she knew you couldn’t, so she turned her face away and let it go.

That night at the party, they hardly spoke to each other. Neither of them could face the awkwardness of the situation that had just occurred. Trixie didn’t know if Katya was upset with her, but she was upset with herself for being afraid to say something about her feelings for the other girl. If she had said something a month and a half ago, none of this would have happened. They could have been together, or she could have been rejected and they could have left each other’s lives without having ever gotten too attached. But now they had admitted to being best friends, which Trixie didn’t want to lose, but she also wanted Katya more than anything in the world. Even though she was pretty sure Katya didn’t feel the same way about her. Her heart felt broken, like it had shattered, and was in a million fragments flowing through her blood.

Katya’s heartbreak felt different. She felt like her heart was rotting from the inside. It felt like it had sunk all the way down into the pit of her stomach and was laying there, bleeding in the dark. She couldn’t bring herself to socialize. She quietly snuck out of the loud hallway and into the cool night air outside. Much to her dismay, she found herself crying on the lawn outside Ginger’s dorm. God, what is it with me and crying at parties, she thought. She hated herself for what she let happen in Trixie’s room. She hated herself for having feelings, but more than that she hated herself for being afraid to have them. She cried for the time she wasted being afraid to love Trixie. She cried for how she was letting her past afflictions affect her now. She cried because she saw the way Trixie looked at her when she thought Katya couldn’t see. She was breaking her best friend’s heart, even though she wanted to love her back. She just didn’t know how. She sat on the grass, her head between her knees, wishing with her whole body that she could try again. That Trixie would find her here, crying by herself, just like the night they met so that Katya could start over and love her the right way. She wanted Trixie to appear in front of her and tell she she was good enough to be a part of her life. But she never did.
