Based on the way the story has been written, especially following season 4, I do believe mike is likely gay atp. But “It’s not my fault you don’t like girls” still makes sense as projection if Mike is bi because lots of closeted bi teens are confused about their feelings, especially in the 80s where terms like “bisexual” wouldn’t have been as readily accessible to kids from Hawkins, Indiana.
Simply the fact that Mike likes boys/Will could make him worried that he’s gay and cause him to hyperfixate on the concept of not liking girls more often, especially if his feelings for El were waning, or if his feelings for Will were overwhelming, even if he did in fact have a crush on El at the start of the show. Nothing says being a closeted bi teen like bouncing back and forth between “I can’t be gay, I like girls” and “Oh no, I like boys, am I gay?”
I think there’s a common misconception that the bi Mike view necessitates oversimplifying the story as “Mike used to be into El, and now he’s into Will.” That isn’t necessarily the case. A bi Mike reading can still involve internalized homophobia, projection, the heteronormative pressure to conform and date girls, repression, and most of the things we talk about here.
(I didn’t really wanna get involved in this, but I feel like this is important to add).

The Strawhats in general have the BIGGEST LGBT+ energy.
Sanji? Closeted Bi ((maybe transfemme))
Ussop? Somebody look me in the eye and say he wouldn't be AT LEAST an ally, ideally bi/pan panic lad
Chopper? Yeah he's well read. He's also a reindeer. He's an animal. Biology dictates the survival of a species is reliant on reproducing but yeah homosexuality and gender changes occur in nature, why would he be upset about that?
Luffy? Aroace king. Squishes abundant. Romance? Weird. You know what isn't weird? Loving your friends.
Zoro? That's a gay man if I've ever seen one.
Vivi? Bisexuality win. She and Nami are long distance.
Robin? She doesn't really know what she is, she doesn't really look for labels, she's simply Vibing and Being Happy. Honestly? Queen shit.
Brook? He's a skeleton. He only has bones in his pants. Equal opportunity panty peeker.
Franky? Nonbinary specifically bc he thinks it's hilarious that his gender is "myeh" but he's a robot, the programming was binary, but HE'S NOT LMAOOOO ((Big Bro, but in a Vibe Way, not a Gender Way, you know how it is-))
Jimbei? Aroace uncle who is sex neutral and will throw down if anyone hurts his kids crewmates/captain.
There's no room for bigotry in their ship and anyone who tries will catch EVERYONE'S hands
I have some different headcanons but you're so real for all of these !!! Gayest crew in the seas and that's hard because all pirates are queer 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️

🍑 for Mikan
I am always. ALWAYS. On my Twogami/Mikan shit. The best thing that came out of DR3 was getting to watch the dynamic of Twogami (physically cannot stop himself from protecting and caring for all the others, no matter how out of character it is for Byakuya, at the expense of his own life) and Mikan (takes all of her self confidence and joy from treating others' wounds as a way of making herself feel powerful & useful, is constantly degrading herself in an attempt to make others happy) banding together to take care of Ryota...the extension of that dynamic in UTDP when they come together to force Hifumi to take care of himself, and later when you explicitly see them taking care of each other and gaining self confidence as a direct result of their relationship...mwah. Mutually beneficial and loving relationships for people who feel fundamentally unlovable. Mom/Dad dynamics.
And then also Ibuki/Mikan, obviously. Because I'm a lesbian and have eyes.
