Kirby shifted beside you, trying to not fall asleep as the movie continued playing on the TV. ‘’When this one ends, I’m going home. I promised myself I would never watch this monstrosity again, but here we are.’’ She took the almost empty bowl of popcorn to keep herself busy and awake. 

The Curse of Michael Myers wasn’t the best of the franchise, but it was part of it and you were doing a Halloween marathon. 

‘’What? Come on, Kirby. It’s not even midnight!’’ you protested, not wanting her to leave yet. ‘’The next one if H20. It has its flaws, but it also has Jamie Lee Curtis going after Michael with an axe.’’

Kirby hesitated, clearly torn. ‘’I don’t know…’’ 

‘’And you promised to drive me home,’’ you reminded her. ‘’I don’t want to leave yet. We have at least two more to go.’’ 

‘’Four if we include the Rob Zombie remakes,’’ Charlie chimed in from the armchair.

You almost forgot those two. 

‘’I’m not sitting through four more movies. My ass is starting to meld with this couch,’’ the blonde grumbled.

You rolled your eyes. It wasn’t the most comfortable couch, but at least it was bigger than Robbie’s. The last time you tried to have a movie night at his house, three people had to sit on the floor. 

‘’I can walk you home if you want?’’ Charlie offered, secretly not wanting you to leave yet.

When the movie ended, Charlie went to the kitchen for drinks while you were switching the DVDs. He had a hefty collection above the television, which you were slightly jealous of. He even owned expensive collector pieces — counting a Jigsaw puppet —, but they were upstairs in his bedroom. 

‘’Did you set it up?’’ Charlie asked, returning to the living room. 

You hummed, grabbing the throw blanket from the back of the couch and laying it over your lap. It wasn’t cold, but you liked the feeling of it on your skin. 

Charlie handed you your drink and went to sit back on the armchair, you stopped him. ‘’You don’t have to sit all the way there, Kirby’s spot is free.’’ 

Without thinking it through, Charlie sat beside you, momentarily forgetting that he gets sweaty and nervous when he’s close to you. God, he felt like such a loser. 

The movie started, and the familiar Halloween theme music echoed through the speakers. 

Toward the middle of the movie, you were both quoting the movie and laughing. It wasn’t your first time seeing it. Nor your second. 

Although you had been in the same friend group since Sophomore year, it was rare that you were hanging out alone with Charlie. He and Robbie were inseparable, and you tended to spend most of your time with Kirby and Olivia. Outside of your passion for horror movies, you didn’t have much in common. You weren’t even from the social scale at school. 

Absent-mindedly, you had moved closer to him. You didn’t know when or how, but Charlie, on the other hand, did notice and shifted uncomfortably, feeling the warmth radiating from your body beside him. He could smell the faintest notes of your perfume, making him realize that if he was close enough to kiss you. But he couldn’t do that. Instead, he took a sip of his drink, trying to quiet his thoughts.

‘’She’s going after him!’’ You grabbed Charlie’s arm in excitement as you watched Jamie Lee break the glass and take the axe. ‘’Go Laurie! Chop his head off!’’ you said at the screen despite already knowing what will happen. 

Charlie's gaze flickered between you and the TV, savoring the moments in your company. When would he get another night like this?

‘’There’s no way he can return after that.’’ 

‘’Yet he does,’’ Charlie said as the credits rolled in. ‘’They briefly explain in Resurrection that Laurie killed the wrong person on Halloween night, thinking it was Michael Myers. It was a paramedic. Personally, I think that’s farfetched. They should have let him die.’’

You twisted your torso to look at Charlie. ‘’But that’s the thing with Michael. He always comes back.’’ 

‘’I actually have a theory about that,’’ Charlie began, leaning closer to you as if sharing a secret. ‘’It’s the mask that makes him impossible to kill. Have you noticed that he always wears it when they proclaim him as ‘dead’? It’s probably cursed or something. That’s how he keeps surviving. They should take his mask off, and then chop his head.’’ 

‘’Like Jason and the Crystal lake? They always dump him back in the lake when he dies,’’ you said, a smile tugging at the corners of your lips.

Charlie grinned. ‘’Exactly!’’ 

He should get up and switch the DVD, but his eyes glanced down at your pink lips, looking soft and inviting. Charlie knew the outcome wouldn’t be the one he dreamed about, but he leaned in anyway, his lips drawing closer to yours. But before they could touch, you pulled back to dodge his kiss. 

‘’Charlie…’’ you whispered, your voice barely above a breath.

Embarrassment rushed through his body, his gaze dropping to the floor knowing that things would never be quite the same after this. ‘’Eh, sorry, I shouldn’t have. I should have known.’’ He shook his head, forcing a laugh. ‘’The nerd never gets the hot girl, that’s just the way it is…’’

Awkwardness filled the room, neither of you speaking for several minutes.  

‘’I…I’m gonna go switch the movie.’’ 

Left alone on the couch, you bit your bottom lip. Why didn’t you let him kiss you? You dodged his kiss by pure instinct. Because Charlie was different from the guys you dated, but different isn't always bad. You had a great time tonight in his company. He was sweet, caring, and you liked how passionate he was about the things he loved. 

Your eyes watched him carefully put the movie back into its case and take out the next. His movements were slower, dreading to return to his seat. 

‘’Charlie?’’ 

‘’Do you want another drink? Or popcorn? I could go make another round of popcorn—’’

‘’Charlie,’’ you repeated. ‘’Just come sit.’’ 

He pressed the button to slide the DVD back in the player, then returned to the couch. His heart was pounding in his chest, unable to shake off the embarrassment of his failed attempt at a kiss. He wanted the cushions to swallow him like they did to Glen in Nightmare on Elm street. 

‘’Charlie, I'm sorry I pulled away earlier,’’ you began softly, not wanting to make things any more awkward.

‘’It’s fine,’’ he brushed off, grabbing the remote and pressing ‘play’.

‘’It’s not.’’ You shifted to sit sideways, trying to get Charlie’s attention. ‘’Can we try it again? I want to change the ending.’’ 

His eyebrows furrowed in surprise, a mixture of disbelief and hope swirling in them. ‘’What?’’ 

‘’Kiss me.’’

Air got stuck in Charlie’s throat. No way you were being serious. ‘’You’re fucking with me…’’ 

You cupped the back of his neck and leaned in slowly. ‘’I never said I didn’t want to kiss you,’’ you whispered, tucking a piece of his hair behind his ear as you looked into his blue eyes. ‘’You just…took me by surprise.’’ 

Unlike in his dreams, Charlie didn't wake up, you pressed your lips against his.

You tried to keep the kiss soft and controlled, but Charlie wanted more. His hand found your hips, gently gripping them as he slipped his tongue past your lips, no longer interested in watching the movie that just began. You let your hands wander from his shoulder to his hair, pulling at the roots and eliciting sweet noises from him. He clung to you for dear life, air escaping his lungs and soon finding himself out of breath, but he couldn’t stop kissing you. You were like a drug, and he wanted more.

‘’No,’’ Charlie whined when you broke the kiss. He attempted to chase after your lips, but you kissed along his jawline, nipping and nibbling a trail from his ear down the column of his neck. ‘’Aah, fuck.’’ 

You smiled against his skin, loving how responsive he was.  

Grabbing at the front of his unbuttoned plaid shirt, you pulled him with you as you leaned against the armrest of the couch. Charlie settled into your widespread legs, shifting so he wouldn’t press his whole body weight on you. 

‘’See, sometimes the nerd does get the hot girl.’’

alchemizing sessions. probably with mundane household devices like toothbrushes or something. patterned toilet paper. davesprite absolutely remakes the sbahjifier for himself but i think he also likes to hand draw them from time to time. also john and jade alchemizing bathing suits and going swimming on lolar and hanging with the turtles. casey can come too. floaties on casey

the sbahj canon diverges. so many sbahj in-jokes exclusive to the prospitian ship. unfortunately the retcon make it so none of this ever happens :(

he’d never say it but davesprite likes it when john and jade fall asleep on him doing whatever, it makes his presence feel wanted and appreciated by the people he sacrificed his self and humanhood for good for. sorry for immediately going into davesprite but good god is he tragic. oh yeah heres more. he’s still part dave and shares the same history with john and jade that alpha timeline dave does. john gave him his shades on his 13th birthday in december 2008, he sent john the con air bunny and jade a physical copy of sbahj as furries in the mail. he is identical to alpha dave in relation to his friends before the timeline splits off. dont forget that 4/13/2009 was also his first time meeting his online friends john and jade in person, even after 4 months chronologically of sburb grinding—nearly a year with all the time shenanigans—and going back to day 1, since john and jade were dead in his timeline

*sweats nervously once again* bc as I said before I honestly don’t like to rec things bc I think my taste is all over the place... 😂 and I'm not one who really pays attention or think about the faults of dramas. I just watch and enjoy (most of the time) lol. It also has only been almost four years for me with watching jdramas so I feel like I'm still pretty new to them haha. but I will try~ and what I mention is honestly more of ones I enjoyed the most watching and can remember!

— Tadashi Koi no Hajimekata (2023) | episodes: 01. genres: romance, youth. » there's only one episode but with two different versions! the name mentioned above is the first version and then tadashi koi no hajimekata: horoama? horoniga? date hen is the second version. it basically the same but shows the perspective of the two male leads with additional scenes! i just loved the pairing of mako and eita and their chemistry was soo good and fun. i am still v sad it wasn't an actual full length drama 😭 and the song that played at the end of date version was on repeat for months! 10/10 reccomend ✨

— Talio Fukushu Daiko no Futari (2020) | episodes: 07. genres: comedy, law, mystery. » it's been three years since it aired and i'm still crying about it 😭 it's the one drama i never shut up about and think about all the time. it's my favorite drama of all time like nothing throughout the years has had a hold on me since!! (what i've previously said about it~) | the way both leads played off each other and their chemistry was just- a++ the soundtrack for the drama was also such a treat and the vibes matched it so well! the vibes of the whole drama though!! I think it was also shot beautifully. and the consistency (!!! the way they kept things going even the smallest details !!!) throughout was something i really appreciated and looked forward too :’) i really be missing it everyday... </3 | i literally have a talio collection that i finally completed a few months ago 🥹 i have the dvd, cd, vinyl, and the magazine the leads were on the cover of 🫶

— Dr. White (2022) | episodes: 10 (+ 1 special). genres: comedy, drama, medical, mystery. » also another favorite from my five favorite dramas watched in 2022! even though it wasn't finished being subbed until last year i still very much enjoyed what eps i watched back then! like i really looked forward to every episode and soo grateful the subber decided to finish it and subbed the special as well! i might be bias because i love hamabe minami who's the female lead (and is in two other things i mentioned above lol) but all the characters are v likable and they all have great chemistry together! plus i enjoyed the v subtle hint of romance between the two mains like it isn't really there but it is and i was quite satisfied with the ending. 🫶

— Ryosangata Riko: Puramo Joshi no Jinsei Kumitate Ki (2022) | episodes: 10. genres: business, drama, life. » i adore the lead so much, she's the cutest! i find this one to be such a fun and relaxing watch! and there's a cute little hint of romance which was soo good to me and wish we got more of them. 😭 there's also a second season: Ryosangata Riko: Mou Hitori no Puramo Joshi no Jinsei Kumitate ki / with same cast members but set in a new universe that just aired last year!

— Okaeri Mone (2021) | episodes: 120. genres: life, drama, romance. » the number of episodes might scare you but this drama is an asadora (morning drama) which is only 15 minutes per episode! so if you're looking for a longer watch about life with a bit of romance i 10/10 recommend checking it out!! yes hello i always miss them 😭

— Nanyobi ni Umareta no (2023) | episodes: 09. genres: drama » this one is keeping me really interested and is definitely a type of drama i haven't really watched much of?? it's engaging, surprising and the actors are great! i feel like most dramas i mentioned are easy going ones to watch besides a few so this one is the latter!

— Kishibe Rohan wa Ugokanai (2020 - 2022) | seasons: 03, episodes: 03, 03, 02. + a movie Rohan au Louvre (2023) genres: horror, fantasy, mystery, thriller, supernatural. » i had been watching since the first one came out in 2020 and i didn't think we would be getting a season every year since and then even a movie! definitely check out if you're in the mood for creepy mystery with pleasing visuals + great outfits!

Chapter Nineteen (Part 2)

After we complete both films, we decide to watch something else. A non psychological thriller that perhaps, we won’t have to pretend to understand the plot this time.  

“Let’s not get too confident about our intelligence.” Jen says as she polishes off her fifth beer, and we agree to find something light and fluffy for film three. We’ve finished all of the crisps by the end of the first film, and by the end of the second we’ve had almost all of the beers too, but it’s impossible not to want another Corona when your mouth is so salty yet you’re unable to stop grabbing for the snack bowl. 

It’s been a long time since I was drunk around Jude and Jen, since the music festival, the place where I think we all did and said things that we regret, but it’s different now. We’re all two years older, and the experience of being drunk with them is more fun than it is anxiety inducing. Jen becomes a louder version of herself, like Jen with an exclamation point, making comments at everything that happens on screen and doing this hilarious snort laugh that I’ve never heard her do before. Jude becomes a bit undone the more he drinks, a looseness coming over all of him as he laughs along with her with his arm and head lolling over her lap. Still, despite this I notice that he’s careful not to direct any physical attention towards me and keeps his hands very chastely to himself as if trying to deliberately disprove Jen’s claims about how he’s liable to put them on me. At one point we accidentally touch feet and he switches positions on the floor so that there is a full metre between us.

After several minutes of aimlessly and tipsily messing around, we decide to watch something from Jen’s housemates DVD collection, Bridesmaids, a film none of us have seen yet, but have all heard it’s funny so it seems like the perfect remedy for our post-David-Lynch-film anxiety. At least, we agree, we’ll probably be able to understand what’s going on without googling it. 

Jude resorts to picking the smallest, most broken up crumbs from the bottom of the crisp bowl to eat as the opening credits roll, and Jen quickly snatches it from him. “I’ll get you more food if you want more food.” She giggles. “You’d swear you were being starved, Hang on.” And she leaves to go and fetch him something else from the kitchen cupboard. I snuggle back into the sofa and hold a cushion, feeling the same lovely, warm feeling I’ve come to enjoy so much from drinking. I can only see the silhouette of Jude’s head contrasted against the bright television screen, his neat little haircut, and for some reason I think it might be funny to jab my toe into the back of his neck in time with the drum beats of the Universal Pictures theme as it plays on screen. Letting my drunk, mischievous little demons win. 

“Oi.” He protests, and reaches out to grab my ankle. 

“Let go!” I cackle, trying to twist out of his grip but he’s a boy. He’s strong. He doesn’t let me go, and instead holds me steady so he can tickle the sole of my foot. I immediately start shrieking and writhing about trying to kick myself free. “Oh my god, stop!” I beg. “My feet are so ticklish.”

“This is what you get for poking your toes into my neck.”

“Jude!” With my free foot I shove his shoulder, but then he grabs that one too, and I’m left hopelessly giggling on the sofa when Jen returns with a bag of jellies. 

She smirks at us as she tosses them at his chest, and he has to release my ankles to catch them. “Are you enjoying the movie so far, lads?”

He rips open the bag and shushes her sharply. “Please, Jen, we’re trying to watch.” She plonks down on the sofa as the movie opens on a black screen, heavy breathing follows as we are thrown into a scene with Kristen Wiig and John Hamm in the throes of passion. 

“Ah Jesus.” Jen comments. “So classic, another one of these awful scenes.”

Jude offers me a jelly over his shoulder and I take one. A little red and yellow ring. 

“Another one?” I query.

“Yeah sure we were just talking about this recently, me and Jude. The way Hollywood does sex scenes is always awful. It’s like,” She gestures to the screen. “It never looks normal, it’s always just played up for comedic effect, like, do you know what I mean?”

“Kinda, yeah.” I say. “But I never really thought about it.”

“It’s alright to show egregious violence on film but it’s not okay to show ordinary sex, like they think it’d be too awkward if they made it look enjoyable.”

“This is a comedy film though, no?”

“Yeah but I mean in general. It pisses me off.”

“Hm. I suppose.” I bite my jelly ring in half as John Hamm does a ridiculous cross eyed face on the bed. “Like, they always make it seem like those women are having the time of their lives. She can’t be enjoying that.”

“No. I agree. Not with those moves.”

I laugh, feeling pleased to be genuinely qualified to participate in a conversation like this now that I’m miraculously not a virgin anymore. I attempt to say something a little bolder. “Right! Because like, it’s not that good, like it’s always a bit shit, they try to make it seem good on TV but it’s just not true.”

“Maybe, I dunno, I honestly wouldn’t know what it’s like for straight girls.” 

“Not as good as everyone wants you to think it is.”

“Isn’t the whole thing about it that it’s meant to be nice?”

I shrug. “It’s fine.” 

A laugh bursts out of her “Alright Evie.” She says, giving me a little incredulous side eye at the same time. “Who is it that’s been giving you a shite time?” 

I feel my face flush, but try to laugh off my embarrassment. “No! It’s like, it’s okay, but it’s not amazing is it? The literal sex is the part you just kind of… do it… do it for them, right?”

“Hmm… I don’t know if I’m exactly qualified to answer that.” She rakes her fingers into the top of Jude’s hair and gently pulls his head back so he’s looking up at her. “Judey, what do you think?”

“What do I think?” He repeats, his Adam’s apple visible under the taut skin of his throat. 

“Do you think girls are supposed to like sex?”

He laughs. “I wouldn’t know, I’ve never done it”

I feel as though I have to think extra hard to block any images from my mind at that moment that would allow me to think of him in ways that I’m certainly not supposed to. The existence of thoughts like these irritate me, like they just come on me without me meaning to, without me wanting them. I should be over this by now and yet… 

 Jen leans her head on her hand and regards me with a sly smile. “So who was it?”

“Who was who?”

“The unfortunate fella who’s awful in bed. Who was he?”

“Jen, so nosy.” Scolds Jude. 

“Oh come on, we’re all friends here.” She protests. “It wasn’t that Slim Shady looking fecker from your birthday party was it?” She’s grinning because she’s sure it isn’t, because to her the idea of me sleeping with someone like Dean is hilarious, something that would be a bit embarrassing for me to do, and once again I feel looked down upon and judged for my choices.  

“So?” I say defensively. 

“Wait.” She says, touching Jude’s shoulder. “Was this the same guy who ripped that empty baggie of coke open in front of you and licked out the residue on the inside?” 

“I…” He hesitates, eyes flashing briefly to mine. “I didn’t tell her that part.”

Jen covers her mouth. “Oh no!”

“It’s okay.” I say neutrally. “I don’t mind that, it’s fine.”

“Oh god, sorry.” She says, reaching out to touch my arm. “You’re not a thing though, right? Like surely it was just a kind of a fling thing, or?”

I sigh and glance away. 

“Ah you’re not going out with him.” She insists. “Hardly, with Aldi Eminem.”

I catch a smile cracking through on Jude’s face then, and his head drops down as he tries to disguise his laugh, and that’s it. I’ve had enough of being laughed at, no,  mocked by these two. I announce I’m going to the toilet and get up from the couch to walk away. 

“Oh, wait, Evie! I’m so sorry!” Jen calls after me, but I don’t look back. “Oh, it’s okay, Jen, don’t worry about it.”

Then once I’m in the bathroom I stare at my reflection, my shoulders heaving with each breath, my hot hands clinging to the sides of the porcelain sink so tightly that I know my knuckles must be white. Not only am I angry, I’m also fairly drunk. Not really a recipe for success. I try to take deep, meditative breaths but my furious thoughts keep on erupting through. How dare they. I think. They don’t even know him like I do. How can they just sit there and laugh at him to my face like I’m stupid for liking him. Do they think I’m stupid? Are the things I do just a big joke to them? 

It’s several minutes before I calm down a little bit, but still, the thing that rings most certain to me is that I no longer want to be here. I think about getting my bag and leaving, hoping maybe the long walk home will clear my head a bit. I can’t imagine anything worse than sleeping here, and then I open the door, and Jude is standing there, and I know there’s about to be a catastrophe. 

“Evie.” He says. “Are you alright? I’m sorry.”

I close the door behind me and step out into the kitchen with him, aware that Jen is still sitting in the other room so I will have to speak quietly. “It’s fine.”

“It’s not like I was laughing at you, I’d never, it’s just that thing she said took me off guard.”

“It’s okay, I get it, like, it’s really funny that I’m seeing Dean, right?” 

He sighs. “No, it’s not funny…”

“But what?” I prompt, because he looks like he’s struggling with whatever he really wants to say about it. 

“I’m just surprised by it.” He blurts out. “Why that guy?”

“Why him?”

“Yeah.”

“Why anybody? Why does it matter to you?”

His eyes slide over towards Jen on the couch, the dialogue in Bridesmaids louder than the volume at which we’re speaking to each other, but still, he’s hesitant to say another word. He reaches for the handle of Jen’s bedroom door and opens it. “Can we just talk about this in here for a minute?”

I shrug. “Yeah, whatever.” And I step inside the room ahead of him and flip on the light. The rain is hammering against the window now as the skies have split open and unleashed something like an apocalyptic rainstorm. Sheets of water are sloshing down the glass, each wet streak glowing with the city lights outside. 

Standing across from him with my arms crossed, I repeat my question to him as he shuts the door. “So? Why does it matter to you?”

He grimaces. “Isn’t he a bit of a weirdo?”

“No.”

“No?”

“You don’t know him.”

“You’re right, but I met him, and he freaked me the fuck out. There was absolutely nothing behind his eyes.”

“He was high, Jude, what do you expect?”

“It wasn’t only that though, he just gave me the creeps. His vibe was so off. Didn’t you ever feel it?”

“No.”

“Don’t be angry with me, I’m just-”

“What is it with you?” I demand. “Why do you get so involved in my life in this way?”

He pauses. “What do you mean?”

“I just want you to tell me why you care so much about who I go to bed with, or who I even choose to date, as if it’s any of your business, or actually, as if it even affects your life one tiny little bit.”

“It-”

“Actually, you’re being exactly the same way about Dean as you were about Liam.”

He blinks. “Liam?”

“Yes! For some weird reason you hated that I liked Liam. You were so horrible about him right from the start, like when you told me that stupid story about giving him fake weed, and made me feel embarrassed about fancying him, and the way you always talked about him like he was a total loser. Like, for what? What was the purpose of that? Just to poke your fingers around in someone else’s happiness and ruin it for fun?”

He looks incredulous. “Happiness? Come on, you didn’t fancy Liam.”

“I did!”

“You did not.” He insists, eyes wide. “He made you physically cringe! It was so obvious. Every time you were together and he put his hands on you you made this face like you’d touched wet food in the bottom of the sink. You were embarrassed to be around him long before I even told you that story.”

“I wasn’t, you got in the way! And now you’re trying to do the same thing with me and Dean. You can’t just back off and let me do what I want to do. And for what reason? It’s like, it’s not even like you have a clear motive. To me it just seems like you really like putting other guys down so that you come out looking better than them every time.”

“Fine, I was mean to Liam, and I regret that. We were fifteen when we gave him the fake joint, we were stupid children, but I’ve grown up since then. I never consciously drove a rift between you two, I don’t know, maybe he pissed me off a bit. Maybe I was jealous of him, but honestly I can’t really remember what I was thinking about that summer, I was a mess. But you didn’t fancy him, I’ll die on this hill.”

“You don’t know what I was thinking. He’s a nice person and I hurt him because of you.”

“Evie, Liam is fine. No doubt he hardly even remembers this. If it was because of me then it was because you let me ruin it. Subconsciously you wanted me to.”

I scoff. “Hardly. As if you were around us enough times to read all of that from us anyway.”

“Anyone can tell when a girl isn’t feeling it. I bet he knew it too.”

I hesitate. Liam did know. It was the whole reason for his frustration at me. 

“Look, this isn’t about Liam. I don’t want to talk about him.” He says, and takes a deep breath. “But Dean…”

I stare at him warningly. “Dean is none of your business.”

“No… I know, I just can’t explain the feeling I get around him, and the feeling I get from you. Something about it feels bad.”

“So you’re trying to ruin it based on, what, a vibe?”

“I am not trying to ruin it.”

“I don’t understand why you keep insisting on making things so hard for me. Let me date a bloody boy, who cares? Your life will be so unbelievably unaffected by this, just go back to Berlin and live your life and stop thinking so hard about mine.”

“I don’t want to stop thinking about yours, I care about you.”

I stand there staring at him, hands dropping to my sides and clenching into fists. My inbreath quivers with fury. “I am still so angry with you.” I say quietly. 

His face collapses in on itself a little bit, his inner eyebrows shooting up to create this desperately sad expression. “Why?” 

I say nothing, he already knows why. 

“If all this is about how I lost touch with you when I moved-”

“You didn’t even try to keep up with me. You gave me half hearted emails for like, three months, and even then your responses were so sporadic that you might as well have not bothered. So much for all that stuff you said to me at the festival about how you wanted to keep on knowing me, when actually, you didn’t care at all.”

“Of course I cared. I’m here now, I still care.”

“No, you know, I think you were messing with me the whole time. I think it was all about an ego boost for you, you wanted to mess around with my feelings, see what would happen if you flirted enough with the most naïve girl on the beach, break up her summer fling and see if you could get her to like you, just to prove that you could.”

“What?”

“And you’re still trying to do it, even now that you live in a different country you can’t surrender any control over my choices. You still see me that way, don’t you? Do you think it’s funny or something? Nobody else is allowed to have me, but you don’t want me either. You just want someone fawning after you and following you around and telling you how great you are. If you cared about me you’d have been here the whole time but you weren’t. You couldn’t even check in on me once, and I’m still angry about it. You just ran away and left me here on my own.” My words, and the ferocity of them make him flinch. For the first time since we’ve started arguing I feel like I’ve maybe been too harsh, but I believe in the validity of what I’ve said.

“I showed up to that going away party because I thought you’d want to say goodbye to me.” I continue. “But actually, I had a horrible, awkward night where you barely spoke to me, and instead made googly eyes at your ex. Then you didn’t even wake me up to have that breakfast you promised me.”

“What was I meant to do?” He says, sounding defeated. “Walk into the room and shake you awake? I hated the idea of invading your privacy like that, and I thought maybe you just wanted to sleep on, like, I don’t know, maybe you didn’t want to say goodbye to me after all.”

“Of course I did, it’s the thing I wanted most, couldn’t you tell?”

“I wanted you there that night.” He says, dark eyes wounded. “I had a different idea of that party in my head, but I felt so detached when you got there and it just got worse as the night went on. I don’t remember what I was thinking. I wasn’t sure of the right way to process what I was feeling.” His hand comes to his hair and messes up the front. “And, by the way, I don’t really know what you mean about Michelle. We broke up for a good reason and-”

“The way you were looking at her-”

“Okay, but between Michelle and you there was no competition.”

There’s a long, heavy pause between us then, and I feel my palms prickle, heart spurring in my chest. I draw my words out slowly. “What do you mean?”

“I mean it would have been you, every time. A million times.”

And I watch him. There’s something vulnerable and unguarded about him in that moment, his eyes darting anxiously across my face, his lips parted as though he has more to tell me, but then in an instant that look is gone, replaced by a line between his eyebrows. “It’s not a good idea to have this conversation.” He says decisively. “This old stuff, it’s not really worth revisiting.”

“Yeah, let’s not bother.” I say. “It’s not like it’s important.”

“Right.”

I swallow hard. “So with Dean, you don’t like that I’m with him because you think he’s a bad influence.”

He nods. 

“Not because of any other reason.”

“I…” He trails off. 

“Not because you want to sabotage another one of my romantic relationships out of jealousy.”

“Evie, it’s not… I can’t. I’m in love with somebody else, Astrid means the world to me, and it’s not fair of me to delve back into all that messy, teenage stuff with you. I don’t want to say anything else to you that I feel I can’t be honest with her about.”

“Right.”

“We’re friends, I don’t want to jeopardise that. I don’t want to make it complicated.”

Happy Brush Day is the first of two episodes focusing on Ziggy's birthday (not to mention the spinoff where he is the main star), so I guess the producers finally realized that Ziggy has some story potential.

The episode begins with some foreshadowing - Sportacus brushing his teeth in his airship. I call this foreshadowing because the episode is about brushing your teeth (kinda). Anyways, the citizens in LazyTown have just woken up happily (excluding Robbie who hilariously uses packing peanuts to drown the noise of his alarm).

Stingy is admiring his collection of four toothbrushes (Is it really necessary to own more than one toothbrush..??). Pixel is using one of his gadgets to brush his teeth (later on in the episode he has completely forgotten what it is) and Stingy keeps his in a lock. Meanwhile, Ziggy is still asleep using his lollipop as a cushion.

Anyways, Robbie is eating his scrumdiddlyumptious creamy cake (My god, I just want a bite of that), and Pixel walks over to Ziggy's to tell him it's his seventh birthday. This just aggravates me, WHO NEEDS TO BE WOKEN UP ON THEIR BIRTHDAY?! My birthday is in one of those 2 week school breaks, and in one of those days you couldn't blow a horn to get me to wake up before 11am. But on my birthday I wake up at 7am with no problem. Anyways, Ziggy is mailing a letter to Sportacus while eating taffy.

Anyways, when Ziggy mentions his birthday, Robbie spits out his cake. He has another devious plan. In my opinion, I never really liked the idea of ruining Ziggy's birthday. His plan was to make a machine that spewed taffy all over the place. 1 - Ziggy loves taffy. 2 - It's his birthday. 3 - Ziggy loves taffy. Meanwhile, the kids are deciding what to get him for his birthday.

Anyways, when Stingy mentions all he wants is taffy every year, he pops up looking for taffy. Now, forgive me, since Taffy was invented in the US, but, it is really that good??

Also, if you didn't notice (SOMEONE must have noticed), the background music for when he walks out the shot is a reprise of 'Siggi' from Afram Latibaer. Anyways, Robbie does his classic disguise time (I think this is the funniest of the first season).

Robbie decides that to accompany his outfit (that looks like something a fairy from a 2000s 3D animated straight-to-VHS movie classified "G" by the Australian Classification Board would wear) with a gift. Off camera he thinks up the perfect thing. Meanwhile, Sportacus has gotten Ziggy's letter, which is one of those cards that plays an undeniably catchy tune when you open it.

Sportacus is having some trouble deciding what to give Ziggy as a gift (his first two choices being balls). Anyways, the camera cuts off to Milford putting up the birthday stage for Ziggy. Everyone is excited for the party until Bessie comes with her birthday speech for little 'Wiggie', then everyone is seriously dreading it. (judging from a transcription Chris Crow made on the GL forums, Bessie possibly just wrote down random words on a piece of paper and lied to herself.)

Anyways, after a bit of begging, Milford is convinced to start the party with the presents. Very surprisingly, Stingy decides to go first. His gift is a quarter-bitten piece of taffy. A single one. You can see from the box there were supposed to be nine pieces.

Anyways, Stingy takes back the box & the lid. I don't know why it's so funny. "Happy birthday, here's my gift, gimme the packaging." So anyways, Trixie goes next, and HER gift is a jack in the box. (If I was Ziggy, personally I wouldn't take that kinda disrespect.) So anyways, Pixel gives him his gift which is in an envelope. Ziggy is thankful enough for the envelope (what a pure soul), until Pixel tells him to OPEN the envelope.

In the envelope is a piece of paper that reads "www.taffy.com" (it's a real website and is still up to this day, it's just not related to LazyTown at all). It turns out to be a website Pixel has made consisting of "jpegs of every taffy ever made!" I get this was written in 2004, but why JPEGS? PNG for the wiiiin!! (I'd geniunely enjoy that gift, but maybe with something else like LazyTown screenshots or old 80s action movie posters.)

So, anyways, Ziggy wants to eat the taffy and is kinda annoyed when Pixel says it isn't possible. Anyways, when Bessie announces she has added five more extra minutes to her speech, Milford gives HIS gift, which is a huge square of taffy flavoured taffy.

Stephanie's gift is her very own choreographed 'Taffy Cheer!' and everyone likes it so much Ziggy even says he could taste the victory taffy. Coming from a boy whose whole diet consists of candy, that is the highest compliment you can receive.

Anyways, Sportacus does a frontflip into the scene right about when Bessie is about to start her speech. (Is it just me or do the events if this show have TOO many coincidences some times?)

Sportacus is hyping his gift up very much. Ziggy guesses a truckload of different candies twice, but Sportacus does an amazing flip (he doesn't have the box in his hand in this shot), lands on his feet and shows Ziggy the toothbrush (now he is holding the toothbrush but there is no box to be seen?).

Anyways, everyone has some questions. Pixel wants to know where the remote control is and if you have to plug it in. Eventually he searches it up in his database, but Ziggy still has no idea what it is. Then he reveals that he keeps some of his favourite foods in his food. Everyone is disgusted. Including me.

Anyways, they sing a whole two minute (recommended length for brushing your teeth) song about brushing your teeth the Twenty Times way. After it's finished, Ziggy shows more interest in brushing his teeth until The Birthday Fairy (a disguised Robbie) shows up. Trixie makes fun of him, indirectly insulting Stephanie (you're girlier then she is, and that is saying a lot!)

Anyways, Robbie (or Pixel) introduces his (honestly really cool) gift, the Electro Ultra Voice Activated Candy Matic! Robbie then reveals that Ziggy and only Ziggy can tell it what to do which is a pretty dumb thing. What if Ziggy falls asleep and while he does he says that his friends can have some of his taffy?

Anyways, Ziggy throws Sportacus' gift on the floor, and I'm surprised Sportacus didn't get mad. You know how bratty you have to be to throw your birthday gift away in front of the gifter? Anyways, Ziggy calls for taffy a bunch of times and he catches most of it in his mouth. Stingy is kinda annoyed.

Or as the subtitles say.. (SEETHING WITH RAGE). Anyways, Stingy climbs right up to the thing and yells TAFFY as loud as he can. Then his face gets splattered. Robbie, the liar! Anyways, while nobody is looking, Robbie deviously puts the level of taffy up to 'red', and taffy starts flying all over the place.. really fast! However, Ziggy can't yell 'stop' because his mouth is full of yellow taffy.

Anyways, it's not long before the stage becomes a sea of taffy, Sportacus goes up to his airship to get some sports equipment to stop the machine and Robbie's advice is to just eat the candy. Milford announces it and everyone starts eating.

Anyways, Robbie quickly gets tired of the taffy and he decides to go back to his car, but unfortunately he cannot drive away. Totally your fault, dude. You started this by putting it on RED. Anyways, his car is basically underwater, except the taffy is the water.

Meanwhile, Sportacus is in his airship, carrying some tennis rackets in his shirt (some of the frames are slowed down, possibly to meet the 24:42 time limit or just look cooler), and the taffy is up to the chins of the puppets. So Bessie grabs onto the birthday banner (in real life that would've just ripped off). Anyways, Sportacus has arrived and he starts hitting every single piece of taffy that comes his way, and for a few seconds the machine stops working.

Sportacus puts on his goggles (it's taffy, not salty ass water) and he dives in to find Ziggy's toothbrush. He doesn't move for a few seconds and everyone thinks he's dead (I don't blame them) until he pops up with the toothbrush!

Stingy throws the toothbrush to Ziggy and he brushes his teeth the Twenty Times way. Finally, he gets the taffy out his mouth and yells STOP!!!

Finally! (: Anyways, Robbie puts his arm through the door and waves it out frantically so Sportacus notices him. Sportacus pulls off his hat and everybody realizes that it was Robbie all along!

Anyways, they sing the Bing Bang song while Bessie does her speech. Now this is the part I don't like because it just scraps what Bessie and the kids said earlier in the episode - the speech goes on and on and on (and this year she added five more minutes), but the Bing Bang song is only 53 seconds and somehow she finishes her speech in the span of the whole Bing Bang song. Anyways, good episode.

So kids, what did we learn in this episode of LazyTown? Brush your teeth every day and night or a bunch of taffy will come flying out of nowhere and nearly drown you.

Dedicated to anyone out there who did their own Tribute to Stephen Hillenburg, I'm pretty sure we all know we're all know that I am indeed exactly Five Years late for this 😅

Considering that Today is the 62th Birthday to SpongeBob's creator who already passed away, I wanted to share my own tribute to him by drawing my own personal interpertation of Salacia hugging one of her pals (SpongeBob) knowing that Hillenburg is still there for his own creation (even if he may not be alive anymore).

Speaking of which, I wanted to share my own personal history with my own relationship with Hillenburg's creation throughout the Years.

As someone who was born in the 2000s era, I was never born in the 90s which always made Me the Youngst growing up as I was born around in a Crazy Blizzard around 2005 in the month of Christmas. There were a lot of popular things in life around my childhood like Angry Birds, Minecraft, Cut The Rope, My Little Pony, Hello Kitty, and even some First Modern Cartoon Network shows (before that studio went down) and all kinds of Early 2000s/2010s stuff that I've seen in life. One of my first exposures around in Pop Culture of that era when I was young was Disney and even a little addition of Dr. Seuss. I've watched SpongeBob around in its Seasons 4-8 when I was a Young Kid, growing up, I've always adored the Little Sponge Guy around in my childhood considering that it was one of my favorite shows from my childhood. Well, techincally, back then, I was actually more of a TAWOG Person being that Gumball was actually my very exposure of a very first fandom growing up as a kid (I even remember being obessessed with that CN Show until when I stopped watching it. Either that I was too busy on other things or that I was always stressed out on School).

I saw its First Movie when it came out One Year after I was born. I myself had watch that movie all the time as a kid, as I still enjoyed it at the very least to this day. Looking back at it, I actually haven't re-watched the film for quite a long time as it has been such a wicked long time considering that a lot of things change over the past few years of decades. Some things don't certainly age well in our childhood, others do age like wine.

Being a 2000s kid, I actually did had a few DVDs of Old Episodes from the Show from Seasons 1-3 as someone who always had a family moving place to place for weekends of vacation, I would always watch Movies and Shows all the time with my Parents. Sometimes, even if my Parents weren't around, I would sometimes watch a Few Movies and Shows by myself (mostly the obscured ones) on streaming services. Growing up, I had a fascination with Beach Life. I would always collect Seashells, Explore around the Sandy Places, and even most of the Time swim underwater where the Fishes would swim by. Though, oddly enough, SB wasn't the only Aquatic Media that I always loved as a kid since there were a few others that were also Aquatic as well like The Water Babies, Finding Nemo, Shark Tale, Disney's The Little Mermaid, and even Bubble Guppies. So yeah, you can at least pretty much tell that I was already born to be a Marine lover person who always had a life for Life under the Sea.

But when things start to change as I was around in my earliest Teen Years, I had no such more focus on SB anymore considering that like again, I had much focus for other things in life. New fandoms, Better Days (some were also terrible if you could put it that way). In 2018 (when I was 12 at that time of year), when I found out that SB's creator (Stephen Hillenburg) had passed away, I was completely shocked about his death and I had felt bad for the Other Hardcore Fans who missed him dearly partially because on how that he helped everyone's own childhoods with his own creation. I still remain a SB Fan that day but as someone who actually did not seen his New Seasons during that time, I still had no focus on looking back at it but whenever people pass away throughout decades, you'll always know how much you're gonna miss them, even if they were famous people from your childhood, especially for the ones who happen to inspire your own creaitives. Even losing a family member is hard for someone who has lost a few of them in their own life.

Then, around in the year, 2020 (when I was around 14), when SpongeBob was going to release its Third Film after it's Second Film in 2015 ("Sponge Out of Water" when I was 9), that Year itself was hell considering most of the horrible things that happened during that year that I'm pretty sure no one hasn't forget and still remembers that Worst Year to this day (My Mom broke her own Leg during that Year despite that she now broke her Arm in this Year, Kobe tragically died, and even COVID was the reason why we all had to be inside). Not to mention that I already lost my own Grandfather in December and my Mom was extremly heartbroken losing her own Father. When "Sponge On The Run" (Originally titled, "It's A Wonderful Sponge") was annoucned, it had so much delayed troubles I couldn't even be looking forward to seeing it, even after when it finally released around in August in Canada and then in March of 2021 on Netflix (though, it's not really on Netflix anymore last time that I've checked). But when I heard about the Controversy surronding it all because of the Spin-Offs that a lot of people on the internet were saying stuff like "STEPHEN DIDN'T WANT SPINOFFS!!!!!" or "NICK IS SPITTING ON HILLENBURG'S GRAVE BECAUSE HE ASKED FOR NO SPINOFFS!!!!!!" Look, I know that was all History stuff but if a few people are still acting like it to this day, they should get over themselves now. 

In case if you didn't know (or never watched the Third Movie), Sponge On The Run actually started the Whole Spinoffs in segments of Flashbacks to the Days where the Gang were at a Camp which was a brand new fresh start for SB considering after when Steph died, it was only up to his crew to take care his creation. Despite the fact that if you'd had watch all the episodes from the show, you would know that the franchise actually has its own Lore from Each Episode from the Past which people pointed out on how it was ridicolus to restart the lore (even I myself used to believe that). But looking back at the show, and how one of the Writers (Vincent Waller) pointed out that Steph knew about Kamp Koral, it turns out for what people have mislead in the past (if some still do to this day), I think what were all blind is that Steph actually said "He didn't know IF he could have seen in the potentails in wanting give his own Creation a Spin-Off" which, come to think of it, despite the show's genre of Surreal Comdey, I think we've been just living under the rock this whole time judging by how when we grow up, we start to realize that there is no such thing as "Canon" in a show like SB (usually, you'd see different types of canons in every other franchise like Sonic or Angry Birds). But even for that, sometimes a Story has no connection to the Other in terms of speaking in Timeline.

I still remember that time around in 2021 when I was introduced to SMG4, I remember seeing SpongeBob in other parody videos and even that one time I made my own SMG4 Fanfic featuring their own potrayal of the SB Characters (which I believe was kinda embrassing to Me to this day now that I've actually been thinking about it). 

Anyways, now as someone who has already gotten old, I have been looking back at some of my very old nostalgic things around in Childhood since 2022 while still looking forward to new things ahead. Mainly because after so much stress and grief upon everything that I once had in my old life, and now that my own Mother lost her Brother (who was my Uncle), I've already made my own descion Last Year of going through a New Life where I would have to face everything in my upcoming Adulthood, but I still missed my own childhood days. I've watched the Modern New Episodes (Seasons 9-12) for the very first time and honestly, I'm gotta have to admit here, but I actually like the New SpongeBob so much better than the Old One (apologises to those who still prefer the Classic), I still don't have nothing against the Old One but the New One feels so much improved with such Cartoony Whacky Animation that I like to think that I prefer the New Style over the Old Style (but still support both). I had watch the Third Film for the first time as I did used to think that it was bad (like how a lot of people say they would) but overtime, the way that I draw Poseidon somehow makes Me like that Third Movie since the Writers did want to put much heart for how much that Friendship truly meant around SpongeBob and his Friends.

I also couldn't thank Other Artists who done their own versions of Greek/Roman Gods into my own Personal Versions if the Other Gods in the Pantheon were in the Same Artstyle as King Neptune and King Poseidon in a Silly Show as inspiration for those (like my own friends) who have done interpertations of what Other Characters from the Source Material that never been adapted would look like in a form of the Artstyle. Ever since that I did my own personal take on Salacia, it completely took over Me as it made me have a strong fond for both the Sea Kings (even Poseidon and Amphitrite just became my New Mythological OTP alongside with Hades and Persephone thanks to Myself). Not to mention, I also had a long-passion for Old Stories for a long time, it also help Me to inspire to create my own personal versions of these said stories to interprete them in a different way which once lead me into my own Prequel Headcanon Project about the Lives of both King Neptune and King Poseidon in my AU if they weren't from different timelines. 

Overtime, as I always kept looking back at my old self, remembering the Days that I actually did had a Good Childhood, I'll always never forget my own Glorious Days where I grew up with such Nostalgic Things around in my life since SpongeBob was always truly one of my most favorites since the very beginning when I was came to the World. It just makes Me feel so much inspired by Hillenburg considering that he's a Marine biologist like how much I have a huge love for Nature and even a soft spot for Animals. Not only did I once feel hope for having a better future, but for a fact that I was born as a Sea Lover when it comes to looking into Other Aquatic Cultures and Media (New Ones like Splatoon, Ruby Gillman, and even Luca) and even old ones that I didn't saw as a child until Teenhood (The Sea Prince and The Fire Child).

It has come to my conclusion that SpongeBob as a show has always helped us build our childhood as things will always inspire us to give our very own bright imagintation, even to People who have Autism like Myself. While I do respect for those who are not into the show anymore because of its recent seasons, I still support it, even in my heart since I have not look back into it for such a long time as I believe it was my fault for not looking back at everything in my childhood. 

Thank You, Stephen Hillenburg. For reaching all of our own childhoods, even if we don't know what would life would be like without your own Magnificent Sea World.

Friendships Last (Some Turn Into Something More)~ Luke Hughes

Aurora pulled her blanket tighter around her body and looked up at the clock above the TV. It read 7:30. Luke should be home any minute now.

Aurora had moved in with her best friend since the age of five when she turned seventeen. Luke had just bought his first apartment and, with Aurora's family in finical trouble, the decision was made for them to move in together.

She fiddled with the small comfort ball in her hand and turned her eyes--one brown, one green--towards the door. Watching for Luke wouldn't make him arrive any faster but she really couldn't help herself. It was habit for her.

She remembered how shy and awkward they were the first couple times they were around each other. Luke had just turned 9 and Aurora had just turned 8. Kids being kids, Luke at first didn't want anything to do with her, but that didn't last long, and soon no one could tear them away from each other.

A key in the door made Aurora jump but soon a huge grin etched over her face and she threw the blanket off her.

"Luke!!!"

She bolted at him and threw herself in his arms, giggling when he caught her. She let out a happy laugh as he spun her around in a few circles and then gently dropped her on her feet.

"Hiya, petal. What time did you get home?"

Aurora giggled as Luke pressed a kiss to her forehead and took his jacket from him.

"A little after 6, Lukey."

Luke's lips twitched at the nickname his best friend still used for him all these years later and stretched his arms above his head.

"Did you eat when you got home, petal?"

Sometimes Aurora got too distracted by other things to eat, so part of the job Luke assigned to himself was asking Auroua this simple question whenever he came home.

"Yes. I made myself a turkey sandwich," Aurora replied, throwing her comfort ball from hand to hand.

Luke's shoulders relaxed and he patted her on the head as he walked past her.

"How about you pick out a movie for us to watch, petal, while I go change?"

Aurora let out another giggle as she bounced over to the movie collection by the TV.

Horror movies were most definatly out of the question so Auroua hummed and placed her fingers on the DVD case of the original Top Gun movie. Luke often teased her that the reason she loved watching it was because of Tom Cruise, but Aurora instisted she watched it because it was one of her dad's favorite movies.

"Top Gun, Aurora? Why am I not surprised?"

Aurora stuck her tongue out at Luke and set the movie up before grabbing the romote and climbing into Luke's lap.

"This seat is taken."

Luke rolled his eyes but allowed Aurora to get comfortable against him and smiled when she pushed her head under his chin.

It was about an hour later that Luke noticed Aurora wasn't making her usual commentary about the movie. It's not that Aurora was a huge talker during movies, but with certian movies that she'd seen a billion times, she loved commenting on details no one else noticed. She was fansinating that way.

He looked down and noticed she was asleep against his chest. This had happened a million times before, but something about her hand clutching his shirt made Luke's heart thumb hard against his ribcage.

He noticed Aurora had a few more freckles right above her nose. The sound of her soft breathing made Luke swallow a lump in his throat.

If he didn't know any better, he'd say he was starting to fall in love with her.

I do watch a lot of video essays, too many to name any favorites, most of them about fiction/media analysis, a few channel examples being: cj the x, ragnarrox, lindsay ellis, ladyknightthebrave (though i've admittedly only seen her the haunting of hill house/bly manor videos), what's so great about that & hbomberguy (fuck tommy tallarico)

My favorite audio rn is probably "Your Chaotic Roommate Confesses His Feelings For You", for multiple reasons i probably can't get into in a post like this

In terms of who hold no appeal for me, mostly david but also vincent, he's just too idk clasically romantic for my tastes

Speaking of which, i'm generally not the most traditionally romantic person which sometimes makes me worried that i'm not affectionate enough/in the right way for people

I generally love horror and/or fantasy and/or mystery media of all types.

I used to watch a lot of rpg maker horror game lets plays during a generally rough time in my life (though i've still never played one of them myself) mostly the channel manlybadasshero and the german channel nesfatelp.

The professor layton series of puzzle/mystery games are a cornerstone of my child & and early teenagehood, the two with the spookiest athmospheres (the diabolical/pandoras box and spectres call) probably being my favorites if i had to choose. I also recently (finally) started getting into the ace attorny series.

In terms of platonic attraction: just the entire damn squad, including gavin.

I don't really have any guilty pleasure favorites i think, but for some reason i had this weird cheap dvd which was a fairy tale themed collection of german knock studio cartoon films as a kid. Though the dino movie wasn't on the dvd, probably since it isn't fairytale themed, so i never saw that one as a kid.

And there also was a bambi knock of by dingo pictures called goldie that i even had as a seperate dvd of as well for some reason (here's a clip: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b_WNza6_Z2c&pp=ygUMR29sZGllIGJhbWJp) there also where films clearly made by other small studios on that dvd as well, it really was a weird mix.

And although i could even as a kid tell that these films were objectivly "bad" i still found some strange enjoyment and fascination in them at the time and looking up these clips gave me immense nostalgia, i even have to say i enjoyed goldie more than disney's bambi, simply because it was more intersting in it's strangeness while i found bambi always boring.

Addendum: As a kid i used to always just say my hobbies are reading and drawing/painting and while i still like these activities (and i still read a book every once in a while) it started to feel kind of dishonest since i haven't actually been doing these things as much anymore (especially drawing/painting, i really need to get back into that) so last year i started to get into new hobbies i had interested in trying for a while, like learning to play guitar as well as starting to do archery and now also wanting to get into general martial arts (i mean, i gotta get buff arms somehow, right)

Ooh, I like you. Type 5w6, the Troubleshooters, are such an interesting type, and you have fantastic taste in movies, interests, video essays, and games. You know who else would like you? Guy~!

1. How did you get into tmnt?

SO. When I was little, at my babysitter's we sometimes got to watch tv/cartoonsand everyone once in a while it worked out that I got to watch the 2003 series! I liked it a lot! Then i got old enough to not need to go to the babysitter, and we didnt have cable like my babysitter, (and we only got one channel at our house) so I wasnt able to see it anymore.

Cue a few years later when we moved and were able to get more channels. I was channel surfing for saturday morning cartoons and saw some familar characters, it was the turtles! So I started watching that channel as the aired the last season of the 2003 series and also got to watch the Turtles Forever movie on tv! They started to do reruns of the beginning of the show and then replaced its time slot with a new show.

I proceeded to mostly forget about it. About a decade later i see a few of my mutuals posting about the Rise series, get bored and decide to watch it. I love it. I read some fanfiction and then go about with other shows. Then the rise movie came out last year and I rewatched the series again. Then I was like. Hey I really liked the 2003 series when I was younger, but I dont remember much of it now. I should watch it again. so I did.

Read some fanfiction and then was entranced with Lego Monkie kid for a few months. My monkie obsession faded and I started reading fanfiction for tmnt again.

And then.... idk I just got more involved with the fandom and started watching the 87 series then bought a 5 movie set (the three movies from the 90's, the 2007 TMNT movie, and the batman one) from Walmart and now I'm suddenly collecting whatever media I can and have actually written my very first ever fanfic for the Rise movie.

TLDR: watched the 03 series when I was little. Then watched the Rise series out of college and then rewatched 03 and now I'm obsessed with all turtles lol

8. Favorite villain/antagonist?

Oh man that's hard. There's so many good ones. Ones I love to hate and ones I hate to love. I think 2003 Karai is pretty cool as an antagonist. She's so loyal to her father and wants to please him, but she's also honorable and that clashes with his methods sometimes so she has this struggle with that and then she fights the turtles in loyal vengeance of her father but then she ends up helping them because it's for the greater good and I just... I like characters who start out bad but have a change of heart and are dragged to the good side. (Baron draxum is also pretty cool both as a bad guy and as a "Dragged to the good side" guy lol).

17. What's your favorite pizza topping(s)?

I love pizza, but I'm such a picky eater, so theres a lot I dont like lol. But I love ground hamburger and bacon! Theres this one pizza place that has a "bacon cheeseburger" pizza that has hamburger, extra cheddar cheese I think, onion, and a garlic butter crust! I dont like big hunks of onion. but other than that it's my favorite kind of pizza! (I also like ham as a topping!)

22. Have you watched/read any of the iterations more than once?

As I mentioned above, I watched the 2003 series twice (but really could almost count it as once since I only remembered about 5% of it lol). I've seen the Rise series twice now and the movie 3 . No wait 4 times now (watched it twice as I was writing my fic).

And I've seen the Batman vs the tmnt movie 3 times :D (I really like that movie, I'm so happy i have it on DVD)

Dawn Of The Wolf - Joel & Ellie

"Ellie had found a copy of 'Dawn of the Wolf' movie during patrol, she decides to take it home for her movie night with Joel, but he doesn't want to watch that movie, Ellie thinks it's because it will be scary and when she's little he doesn't like her to watch such things."

Ellie was out on patrol with Dinah and Jesse, the three friends were patrolling a nearby town since they needed to go and check out that the supermarket was clean from the infected, this was also a great opportunity to loot the place and take whatever they deemed useful or that they had liked.

Ellie was in the 'Electronics' section of the store rummaging through the aisles, she liked checking this particular section of the stores in the hope of finding something interesting to watch with Joel, being a new movie or show that they hadn't seen yet and that wasn't available at the library for their whole town. She always made sure to grab two copies of whatever she was getting, one for her personal collection and the other for the town to be able to enjoy, ever since Ellie started going out on patrol the town had benefited from whatever new loot she came with.

She came across a DVD display rack, it was mostly bare and destroyed but in the middle of it were a few copies of ���Dawn of The Wolf: Part 1’ she checked them to see if they were in good condition and thankfully she was able to snatch 2 copies and put them on her bag, before going back she snatched a couple more DVD cases that looked fine securing for her own collection and for the town a few different titles.

Soon she reunited with her friends and they made their way back home, after stopping by the stable to let Shimmer there to rest she went to the library to give them the DVDs that she got. When she was done with it she went back home stopping by her place (it's actually Joel's garage, but they converted it into a loft when they started distancing themselves), in there she left her bag and dirty clothes, took a shower before going back to the main house, not forgetting to take all the new movies and her astronaut bear.

She had decided to wear some plain sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt since it was a lazy day, it didn't take more than 5 steps to reach the door, running inside she started yelling "Papa where are yah?! I'm here to watch movies wif' you!!". Upon hearing his little girl Joel quickly went to where she was, butonce he set his eyes on her he went back to his closet to fetch a flannel for the girl, even if it’s stil autumn the days are quite cold and with no heating system in the houses the inside was almost as cold as the outside.

Ellie didn’t protest when Papa made her wear the flannel, on the contrary she loved wearing his flannels since they are so warm and smell just like him, a wood scent always accompanied him, when Papa stopped fussing over her she went to retrieve the movies and show them to Joel. 

“Look Papa I founds lots of new movies to watch!” exclaimed ever so happy the little, “I can see that, you sure had a good loot today baby girl” chuckled Joel seeing how excited she was over some old DVDs, but then again to her they were so new. Ellie kept rambling about what she looted while on patrol, and how she imagined all the movies to be, inventing a plot for all of them based solely on the cover, “Can we watch dis movie tonight Papa? Can we? Can we?” pleaded Ellie showing him the first movie she picked back in the supermarket.

Joel was about to agree blindly until he recognized the cover, 5 years back had been the last time he had seen that image and 20 years prior to that was the first time, he could remember how Ellie had thought back then that it was probably an action-thriller movie filled with scary werewolves. The first thought that came to mind was to simply say no to watching it because it brought back bad memories of Sarah's last moments on Earth, but that wasn't actually the case, he related that movie more to Sarah gushing about the 'Romance' among the protagonists... but it is still not suitable for children as young as Ellie was at this time. 

“I’m not letting you watch a movie about some girl falling in love with a werewolf, that’s so weird and I don’t want to explain why they seem to be longing for eachother” was what Joel meant to say, but in reality what he said was “Sorry babygirl but we can’t see this movie, it is not meant for little kids like you”.

“But why Papa?! I wanna see the big bad wolfman fight wif’ everyone, am sure he wins always” whined Ellie crossing her arms and giving a death stare to Joel, “He’s not a big bad werewolf, the movie’s about this girl” he said pointing to the cover, “falling in love with the werewolf. So I’m sure it isn’t on your preferred genre of movies” finished Joel laughing out loud.

“You right Papa, don’t wanna see them bein’ all lovey dovey like Auntie Ria and Unca Tommy” said Ellie fake gagging at the thought of having to watch smooches between the protagonists, I thought so was all that Joel said, meanwhile Ellie went back to browse between the DVDs they had to find something good to watch.

Joel felt a fierce stare upon him and turned to see that Ellie was scanning him from head to toe, like trying to gain the courage to say something, and suddenly the dam broke. "You know what Papa? You look like the Wolfman"  bluntly said the little girl, "What?!" was the only thing that his brain seemed to formulate, "Yeah, you both hairy and wear flannels. And Mr. Wolfman looked all bad an' mean, but actually you are so fluffy like Astrobear" explained Ellie raising the aforementioned stuffed bear.

Joel only chuckled at the comparison that his dear daughter had just made, letting her cuddle at his side when she had finally picked a movie for both to enjoy, 'Space Buddies' seemed to be the movie of the season, Ellie really liked it since it is set in space and would choose to watch it at any opportunity given. 

He didn't really care if it was the 100th time they had watched it, all that was important was spending time with his baby girl, although he threatened to get rid of it if she kept calling him Mr. Wolfman. Of course, Ellie didn’t listen and kept calling him by that nickname the rest of the week, until Tommy started doing it too and she got mad since it was only meant for her to be said.

I started out watching the original series in 1987 and decided I would grow up to marry Donnie. 😄 He was still my favorite when the 90’s movies came out but I was starting to like Raphael at that point too. I was in college when the 2003 series came out so I only watched a little of it. (I got married to a narcissistic abuser at age 20 and lost myself for a few years thereafter.)

Fast forward to 2017 and my youngest son (second marriage) picked the 2012 version on Hulu to watch. I thought it was going to be goofy when I saw the turtles design, but the more I watched it with him, and started catching some of the more adult jokes that went over his head, I got hooked all over again. Donnie and Raph were my favorites once again. And then I started looking for anything TMNT that I could get a hold of. I bought the DVD set of the original series that I crop with for my son to watch. Then I started collecting the 2003 series.

When we picked up the bayverse movies, that’s when it really hit me. Then Covid started and I had tons of free time so I took this blog that I had started years ago when I was into anime, and I turned it into a TMNT blog and started reading, and re-blogging tons of turtle fanfiction. Started writing it in March of 2021.

Bayverse is my favorite just because I am so in love with their designs. Raphael is my main man but Donnie and Leo follow closely behind. I know Bayverse gets a lot of flak in the TMNT community but I thought they stayed true to the characters and frankly, a big muscled Raph is sexy 😜

I don’t know that I have a least favorite. I honestly love every iteration. I have come to love ROTTMNT, but more because I adore all the fanfiction being written where they are aged up. The show itself was cute and my son enjoyed it. The movie of it absolutely shattered me though. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

An ode to Given

A few days ago the internet collectively freaked out - myself included - when it was announced that the next chapter of Given would be the final chapter, ending its 10-year run. I'm honestly still in shock and while I'm trying to stay optimistic that maybe the big announcement that's coming with the final chapter will involve some kind of sequel, a second season of the anime seems more likely. It's difficult coming to terms with the fact that I may have to say goodbye to a series that I love so much, and with an ending that I most likely will not find satisfying. Regardless, Given has taken up a huge space in my heart for the past two years and I just wanted to write about how I found it, my experience with it, and what it means to me.

I've enjoyed manga and anime ever since I was in middle school, but toward the end of college I got too busy to keep up. Fast forward to years later in 2020, I was stuck at home during the pandemic and decided to dive back in. After rewatching a BL anime that I really liked in high school, Given came up as a suggested series. A quick Google search told me that it was a great romance story between boys in a band, cool.

The first episode starts with Mafuyu's melancholy monologue about the dream he keeps on having and I see right off the bat that I've signed up for a bit more than a cute love story with music. Then the opening song Kizuato hits and I'm totally captivated. It's probably one of my favorite opening sequences and truly captures the feel of the series with its hard-hitting instrumentals, Cenmilli's emotional vocals, and the moody art.

The series pace is on the slower side but there was enough drama and intrigue to keep pulling me in, and it's full of comedic gold. And then... episode 9, A Winter Story. It shook me to my core, everything about it was absolutely amazing. Ue's talk with Mafuyu before the show where he admits that even he doesn't know what he is doing or how to express himself, all he knows is that he loves Mafuyu's sound. The song itself, interspersed with flashbacks of Mafuyu and Yuki's relationship and Mafuyu's monologue (his "I'm lonely" is truly devastating, major props to Yano Shogo). THE KISS. A genuine surprise, so quick and so gentle from inexperienced Ue. I had to watch the episode twice because it left me in complete awe and I needed to experience it again. Then episodes 10-11 were the perfect wind-down with a lot of cute and legendary moments, aka Ue experiencing increasing levels of gay panic. The series became an instant favorite and I rewatched it immediately. I can't find the words to properly express what it did to me but it just made me feel so many things, things I don't think I've felt for a long time. I couldn't shake it.

After that, I was still hungry for more Given so I read the manga, which is a totally different and wonderful experience. The art is beautiful, and the way Kizu-sensei portrays emotions through the characters' facial expressions is unparalleled. Soon after that, the movie came to Crunchyroll, and I've been keeping up with the series in every form since. I read the chapters as they come out bi-monthly. I watched the drama adaptation (not great but not the worst I've seen). I watched the OVA many times (my favorite, all the precious RitsuMafu moments I was missing from the movie). I splurged on a second-hand DVD set of the stage play (really well done). I even watched the anime dub (tolerable), and I hate dubs. Rereading and rewatching the series are routine. Safe to say, it's consumed me for two years and the flame has not died down one bit.

Lots of fans joke about referring to Given as our comfort series when it actually hits on a lot of heavy topics and has eviscerated our emotions on more than one occasion. But it truly is my comfort place. Just as I had finished watching the anime for the first time, I lost a very close friend to illness. This friend was a fellow anime/manga enthusiast and was probably the one who introduced me to the world of BL. Although she didn't watch Given, I like to think that it could have been something we would have enjoyed together if we had the time. And although the circumstances are different, I could relate to Mafuyu prematurely losing an important person in his life. Because the story is equal parts pain and healing, Given kind of provided me with a space where I could dump all of the emotions I was experiencing, whether they were happy or sad. It taught me about loss, grief, and above all, the way music and love can heal the wounds that these things have left behind.

I also have to speak separately about the music of Given, it's just so well done, with so much care and attention to detail. You can tell that Cenmilli worked closely with Kizu-sensei or really dived into the source material when working on the music. Every song created for the series relates very clearly to an event or element of the story. I could write praises upon praises for all of them, but some of my favorites include:

Fuyu no Hanashi, for obvious reasons. Yano Shogo's raw vocals are haunting and the guitar riffs are insanely cool. The way the lyrics change from Mafuyu being stuck and unable to say goodbye in the first chorus, to finally moving forward despite that in the last chorus, show that he's getting the closure he needed.

Kizuato - The lyrics perfectly express the series' tagline "can't say goodbye, I'm still drifting with your echoes." And the pre-chorus is so, so good.

Hetakuso - A simple but insanely sweet song that is definitely Mafuyu's response to Ue's admission that he is bad at expressing himself. I squealed when I saw the lyrics mention "covered by the heat of summer" and "not being afraid of the next winter" in reference to the two of them.

Bokura dake no Shudaika - As I read the lyrics, I can't tell if the song is referencing Akihiko and Ugetsu's relationship or Akihiko and Haruki's (maybe it's both), but I actually like that ambiguity. I also love how it beautifully incorporates the violin as a salute to Aki and Ugetsu.

Uragawa no Sonzai - I know Mafuyu is singing the song but I like to think of it from Ue's perspective. He is aware that there is a side to Mafuyu that he doesn't know, his past, a time when he cried, a person he cried over. But he embraces this "existence on the other side" as a precious part of the person he loves and vows that he will fill up for what the other is lacking, and vice versa. I'm crying.

Now that the series is coming to an end, I don't know what I'll do with myself. If it's truly ending for good, I do have my complaints, but I'll save that for another time. No matter what though, Given is solidified as one of my top anime/manga series of all time, and I'm sure I'll keep revisiting it over the years even after it's finished. It's given me so much - joy (RitsuMafu soft moments are my serotonin), sorrow (Strawberry Swing, anyone?), laughs (too many to count), and some of my favorite music - and for that, I'm incredibly thankful.

I created this blog on August 11, 2020. At that time, I had barely started my journey into British comedy. I mean, some stuff I’d known for most of my life. My dad showed me the Monty Python movies + Flying Circus when I was much too young to understand them, but just barely old enough to find anything at all funny in them, enough to insist on watching them over and over, until I got old enough to get more out of it. I think I may have actually been too young to understand quite a bit of the English language when he first showed me Mr. Bean, but I could still understand some of the slapstick stuff. I was slightly older, but still quite young (maybe 8 or 9) when he got me into the shows of which my parents had every episode on DVD, and I’d watch them over and over and over for years: Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, Ripping Yarns, Yes Minister/Yes Prime Minister.

My dad showed me The Thick of It not long after it first started airing, when I was around 15 years old. I quickly became hooked. A while later, he took me to see In the Loop in our local independent theatre, just after it was first released. My Armando Iannucci obsession grew from there.

My dad had all of The Goon Show on cassette tapes, and he used to play that on road trips when I was a kid. He also had a CD of The Complete Beyond the Fringe, as well as Alan Bennett monologues, all of which I used to love. He had Billy Connolly CDs that I didn’t understand, and VHS tapes of The Secret Policeman’s Ball that I basically memorized.

And of course there was Douglas Adams. When I was about 10-12 years old, my dad read me all his books. I could have read them by myself, but I enjoyed the shared experience, so we sat in the living room while he read them out loud. All five Hitchhiker’s Guide books, both Dirk Gently books, Last Chance to See, and The Salman of Doubt. The Meaning of Liff books I read on my own.

And Radio 4, I can’t forget about Radio 4. He got me into The News Quiz and The Now Show in about 2009, and I’ve been listening to those ever since. And there was frequently some Radio 4 comedy or other playing in his car when I was a teenager.

The point is that Britcom wasn’t completely new to me in 2020. My dad had raised me on it. I didn’t understand everything about it from a younger age, but I at least knew how some of it worked. In early March 2020, I happened across s01e01 of Taskmaster on YouTube, and said, “Oh look, British comedy, like that other stuff I like. I wonder what this is?” Then Romesh Ranganathan threw the watermelon the floor, and it was the funniest fucking thing I’d ever seen in my life. By complete coincidence, about a week later, the world happened to end. Leaving me with enough time to watch every episode of Taskmaster, but that wasn’t enough, I loved it so much that I wanted more time with those people. So I Googled them, and found that a lot of my favourite Taskmaster people could be found on other panel shows regularly. But many of these were long-running panel shows, with more than 100 episodes, and obviously I didn’t have time to watch all that. But then I remembered that the world had just ended, and I could watch whatever the hell I liked.

So I watched every episode of Taskmaster, and then every single episode of WILTY and 8 Out of 10 Cats and Catsdown. And then I watched every episode of Mock the Week and Big Fat Quizzes, and I created this blog in the middle of that.

I made a list of panel shows + sitcoms I wanted to watch. It took me a couple of years to work through that list. It added QI + Amstell-and-later-era Buzzcocks to my long-running panel shows, as well as a lot of other sitcoms and sketch shows and shorter panel shows and other TV shows (Russell Howard’s Good News/Russell Howard Hour, Mash Report, New World Order) and books and radio shows and collections of stand-up sets. I went through that entire list, while posting on this blog about my progress.

It was about a year ago that I finished all the stuff on that list, and then got into The Bugle. I went from there into being more interested in stand-up than in panel shows or sitcoms, and that’s pretty well led to where I am now. I first bought a Bandcamp recording by a man named Daniel Kitson in June 2022, and I have not known peace since. That led directly to August 2022, when I came across that video of those people taking apart a cow on stage, and I have definitely not known peace since I found that.

Part of my original Britcom list involved all 126 hours of the 2006-2008 episodes of the Russell Howard and Jon Richardson BBC 6 Music radio show. Russell left the show in 2008 because he basically got too famous to keep it up, and Jon kept running episodes, co-hosted with Matt Forde and various other guests, for the next few years. I’ve listened to every episode of those Jon and Russell years, but none from later. I actually have all the post-Russell era of that radio show downloaded to my hard drive, but I have not listened to them. It’s too depressing.

That’s the actual point of this post. All that other stuff is just background to the actual point. The background establishes my credentials, that I know British comedy. You know that stereotype that all autistic people are eight-year-old white boys who are obsessed with trains? Well I am an eight-year-old white boy, and these are my trains.

So I can say with certainty that I have checked, I’ve checked thoroughly and carefully, I’ve checked all of the comedy in Britain. And I can confirm that the saddest thing that’s ever happened in all of British comedy is the single fact I know about the Jon Richardson era of that radio show (which I know because someone on this website told me, I still haven’t listened to the episodes), which is that the first song he chose to play in the first episode he ever hosted post-Russell Howard was I Can Do It Without You by Kaiser Chiefs.

I wrote this entire post because that song just came up in my YouTube recommendations, and then I remembered that fact, and I would like to explain how qualified I am to say that that is the most depressing thing that has ever happened in British comedy. I mean, I realize we have a more recent thing that’s obviously objectively sadder and also indirectly involved Jon Richardson:

And, you know, Rik Mayall was cool. The last episode in season 4 of Blackadder was pretty rough. But nope, sorry, the saddest thing to ever happen in British comedy is Swindon-era Jon Richardson ending Russell Howard’s last radio episode by saying good luck but it’s fine and he doesn’t even need him, and then playing a Kaiser Chiefs song on the next episode. Whatever bad directions Russell Howard’s gone since, and whatever comparatively less bad but maybe not ideal directions Jon Richardson’s gone since, they will always have the time 126 hours of buildup led to the playing of a Kaiser Chiefs song somehow being one of the saddest things I’ve ever heard of.

(I’m like… sort of joking. I mean I’m joking about it being literally worse than Sean Lock dying. But it’s genuinely pretty fucking depressing. Fucking hell.)

Din rambles about rp [Licorice Cookie] (Really long post)

Like I said in my Vampire Cookie post: Cookie Run does the thing I like where they give you a character, a basic personality and an idea of a backstory and then let you run with it. Though, when I rp Cookie Run I usually make them humans to be

yknow, less weird when they bang bc idk how that would work.

So I give them names, places of origin, (even doing a bit of extra world building myself), and families.

Licorice is more complex than Alchemist and Vampire so I'll try to be coherent for once in my life

Latin Fawn Edwards. I honestly cannot give you a legitimate reason for his name, but I can give a reason for the name he introduces himself as: Lich

Which isn't even as in depth as my last post. It's just in reference of a necromancer specifically the Lich from Adventure Time because I think that Licorice would think it's a cool sounding name.

Basic Hcs:

Lich is about 23 years old, not a huge hc but just starting off small

He also claims to be a Scorpio because it sounds cooler, but that unravels when you find out his birthday is in early September (Virgo)

Story Hcs:

Lich wasn't intended to pursue magic since the Licorice tribe wasn't as magically educated as the Coffee one, so not only did he not receive the recognition he deserved most people didn't know how to give him that recognition or just didn't care. His parents were in the latter group.

It's hard to get him to even ADMIT that he was from such an "embarrassing" place and will claim he's from Magic City.

What actually happened was: one day to show off how powerful he was, Lich brought a dead cotton candy lamb back to life.

At first, it was finally enough to get him some recognition, with a little more work the tribe would be able to bring all their late livestock back to life and benefit from it!

That was until that lamb began to cannibalize the other sheep and had to be put down.

That was what ran Lich out of the tribe by pretty much everyone who could.

Cold and alone, Lich tried to find his way to the Coffee tribe or Milk tribe but got lost. The blizzard was getting stronger and Lich began to give up. However, Dark Enchantress saw the previous events and appeared from the snowy winds with a grin. She offered Lich a home, but more importantly... recognition. She praised Lich for his efforts and for being able to reverse the seemingly permanent.

Lich ate this up and quickly joined Dark Enchantress in her cause.

Other Hcs:

Lich is absurdly attracted to things/people that could kill him. Meaning he's most definitely attracted to Dark Choco, Red Velvet, and Black Raisin.

Though, he says it's because he finds power arousing he also wants a significant other who can protect him when he's weak. This he doesn't even admit to himself.

Wears light clothes under his robes, imagine walking around in black robes in the middle of summer. Especially robes that thick.

Lich sews, there is nothing else to mention. Just that he sews.

His necklace of skulls isn't real. This would be obvious to most, but not to Poison Mushroom (who I hc as someone who likes to collect random ass things) when they bring Lich the skull of a still decomposing animal they found. They said that maybe he could make a ring or something out of it since he makes jewelry out of bones and Lich just awkwardly disposed of it once they left.

Lich fucking LOVES horror movies but is prone to nightmares if he finds one that actually scares him good. One of the first movies that could make him that bad was when he was a kid and watched the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre on DVD.

At his current age, the only movies that freak him out are the kinda movies you'd find on Tier 3 and lower on the Disturbing Movie Iceberg. Don't ask him about it, he's still traumatized and it still makes him nauseous.

He also loves true crime, but can't stand torture cases. Even a necromancer like him wouldn't keep a living being alive just to cause it pain... the dead don't count, they can't really feel anymore.

His kind of magic needs to get living energy from somewhere to give to the dead. While most necromancers would sacrifice animals, Lich can't make himself do that so he uses his own living energy... that and if he finds an animal in pain and feels like he should put it out of its misery. The energy is then sucked into his scythe and can be used to reanimate the dead.

Meaning the more Lich does this, the more it slowly kills him.

The dead don't need much, just a drop of life (hell you can even recycle their own living energy as long as the body is still fresh). So it's not like it will kill him in one shot, however, he doesn't expect to see his 30th birthday considering that he's coughing up blood.

Bugs can count, but it's just a pain in the ass and if the dead need just a drop bugs provide like less than even a tenth of that energy

the amount of life energy a being has varies depending on many factors, just know that a healthy adult human can supply enough energy for THOUSANDS of reanimated corpses.

after like days and days of trying to write this out i finally have the time to share some Aster Lore w y’all :)) slapping under the cut bc it got a wee bit lengthy

born into a family of flying taxi cabbies, like there’s at least one person every generation who grows up to be a cabbie — family tradition of each child receiving a rookidee as their first pokemon when they’re like. 5 years old. constant bird companion

used to be a shy child — could be very talkative around family and pokemon, but tended to struggle with interacting with other people a lot to the point that she dropped out of her initial gym challenge attempt after winning a single gym badge. not wanting to give up entirely tho, she spent a few years working on her confidence and tried again when she was 14, still riddled with anxieties but more mentally prepared and armed with coping strategies for if she started to feel overwhelmed

mostly took part because winning gym battles means getting a cash prize as well as the badges. had absolutely zero intention of reaching the finals and facing leon but somehow managed it anyway. and won. like it was a close fight, practically a draw, but a victory is a victory and she got crowned champion of galar

then within 2 weeks she just quit. up and left. packed her bags and ran away to travel (which was her original plan anyway). no notice to the league itself, aster simply went home, told her family she couldn’t handle being in a role she didn’t really want in the first place, and disappeared off to kalos. turns out there’s a lot of pressure that comes with being a reigning champion, both in a business sense and due to everyone in the region knowing who you are, making it impossible to go anywhere without being hounded by strangers, and aster was like “nah not dealing with this. bye lol”. after a brief statement from her family where they confirmed she left of her own volition, leon got his title back and any media circus about aster’s extremely early retirement was promptly killed.

spent the next few years exploring different regions before deciding to settle in unova, at first in nacrene city, but moved to nimbassa after a year — the art scene in nacrene city is cool and all, but nimbassa just has so many things to do for fun and is also just a more central location.

aster’s personality has changed between abdicating the galar league and the present day. over the course of a decade and experiencing new things + meeting new people near constantly, she’s become more outspoken and relaxed, able to talk to total strangers with relative ease. also developed a flair for dramatics, which can be seen in how her battling style has evolved over time

doesn’t really have a job. currently makes most of her income by visiting black city every few days to battle other trainers in the tower, or helping out an artist friend back in nacrene city with any odd jobs that need doing. aster likes not having an actual job, she’d rather be able to spend as much time as possible devoted to her hobbies and her team, than have to take orders from another person or deal with the responsibility of giving other people orders.

loves movies. like outside of pokemon, film is her favourite thing in the world. since moving to nimbassa city aster has been building up a collection of blu rays and dvds, to the point that she has entire shelves full of them, floor to ceiling. any genre is good in her eyes, she’ll watch anything whether it’s a corny romcom or a surrealist horror. has also started investing in better sound systems and a projector, and is currently in the process of turning her apartment’s living room into a home cinema sort of deal.
