A new genre i've noticed in the aussie punk scene-Eshay rock

i'll be honest, i don't really have much (if any) authority in this subject. i'm just someone who noticed a trend in this style of music and decided to put a label on it. feel free to harass me in the comments.

(as far as i can tell) Eshay rock is a punk rock sub-subgenre comprised of harsh vocals, australian slang, distorted guitars and a general rough and uncut feel. it's essentialy a cross between garage rock and a bit of punk with an aussie spin on it. this is where the name comes from, an eshay essentialy being a tryhard australian gangster known for their use of slang. (please note: i'm not a big fan of eshays but i still like this style of music and this word just seemed like the most appropiate fit).

i've comprised a spotify playlist comprised of song that fit this definition, it's pitifully small but i hope to add to it in the coming weeks. but just so you know, some artists in this sub-subgenre include but are not limited to

everyone's problematic!! yes, even that one, yes even you. that's life etc. i could've probably made this and include every actor from spn but i want this to actually be useful to people, so i made my own (i guess slightly biased cause that can't be avoided) decisions in that. i tried to make it as lighthearted as i could but unfortunately some actors have really made a mess of things so read with caution if you're easily triggered

again, i trust you to draw your own conclusions and do your own additional research. that also applies to actors i didn't include here. i'm not gonna tell you where to draw the line and who you should or shouldn't support. a lot of newbies get lost sometimes and this is for them

I know I just finished saying I like this fandom, but. We definitely still have our full quota of subtle fandom misogyny.

For example, the internet's two ~favorite~ characters are Astarion and Karlach, supposedly. But start a conversation about Astarion, and get six thousand pages of gushing essays about his trauma and his perspective and the subtle contradictions in his behavior and a universal acknowledgement that the way he sees the world is warped by his experiences and his perspective and what that means for him and endless pondering about what sex means for him and what violence means for him and when his decisions are right and when they're irrational and how he'd react to things and what he really means when he says or does this and and and and and....

Start a conversation about Karlach, who has every single bit of that complexity, and the best you'll get is "Muscle Mommy Hot 🥵💦" and the worst you'll get is "I've somehow taken every single word Karlach says in this game completely at face value and yet I confidently believe that you're the one who is wrong about her for thinking she has a shred of development or depth."

The default majority take on Karlach, in this game where she is the only ace-friendly romance option, is that she's the horniest character on the team. And you know what? I do genuinely believe that people like Karlach. We've come a long way from the days of ATG fantasy where every single female character was a bitch or a harpy or a Mary Sue or a boring doormat getting in the way of the sexy white boys we were actually here for. We can be enthusiastic about them and say nice things and genuinely enjoy having them around. We can actually like them! It's just that "liking" a female character and "liking" a male character are still. Apparently. Very different things.

It's not like I've ever seen anyone here have any filter for what political messages they reblog, people just see someone talk about a situation in a way that makes them feel like they know who the villain is and press reblog, without question or applying any prior knowledge to their interpretation, especially if it's something that doesn't affect them personally, and especially if it goes against what they think most people believe so they can stick it to the man and feel like they know better. It's not something new and I usually don't hold it against anyone, I'm definitely guilty of it myself, but man does it feel more pervasive than ever now that every 5th post is taking a very confident stance on a war they only know from news and social media, all saying the same thing, enraged that anyone would ever claim otherwise. And it never hit so close to home for me, it was always someone else's problem for me too, someone I didn't know, but this time I got to spend a day wondering if a loved one was still alive, this time I get to be careful in public so I don't get killed for someone else's crimes.

Can we just all (myself included) think a little more, do a little more research before we decide what nuance does or does not exist? I promise you that you're not obligated to post about everything, you're not obligated to have an opinion on everything, and I promise you are going to be wrong sometimes.

Very glad my brain doesn't always circulate spn knowledge like it used to. I'd be trying to have a nice conversation with someone and then remember something related to an episode and have to track down the episode in my mind for a throw away line and only think about that until I wrote something pertaining it. And it was usually Sastiel related. And if wasn't originally I made it into Sastiel. I actually do miss that part, turning mundane things into Sastiel posting. I should do that again.
