Medusa is such an interesting character to me, even though she's underutilized. There's so many open ends to her character that I explore through fanon. As I think about it more and more, I'd think that a story told in Medusa's point of view rather than Pit and Palutena's would be a tragedy. She was once the goddess of darkness to the goddess of light - two powers in a cycle equally matched. But eventually, her hubris got to her and she started to abuse her destructive powers. The balance was broken, and it would never be fixed. Now the goddesses were at war with each other, and in an act of retaliation Palutena turned Medusa into her gorgon form. The two's hatred grew and grew until Medusa died.

There's no denying that Medusa's actions were evil, but the fact that Hades never let her soul rest peacefully was also callous. It was not karmic punishment. He just wanted her to be his pawn. With each forced revival Medusa grew weaker and weaker, her mind not quite as able to grasp memories...but it was still her. Her appearance was the mix of Palutena's memories and Pit's - combining her original goddess form and her gorgon form without any of her own agency. To me, even though she acted surprised when Hades took her arm, she still knew that Hades would inevitably kill her once she finally turned against him if she didn't kill him first. Yet she jumped in anyway - she finally found out what was happening to her and she didn't stand for it anymore. When Hades killed her that would probably be the last time she dies ever. But still, her final stand against Hades was one of the many things that caused Pit to win.

Rhyme: - begins by trying to smash it to a pulp - rapidly gets more and more irritated when she keeps on missing - finally lets out a primal scream of rage and fireballs it - 6/10 because she nearly burns down the house

Sol: - lets out an undignified squeak - leaves the room - if it flies at him he's sprinting out of there - 3/10

Dahlia - rolls up a newspaper and whacks it a few times?? like a normal person??? - 9/10

Beatriz: - faints - poor bbg can't handle the terror - 0/10 - alternatively shoots her feathers and skillfully punts it out the window - so overall actually 5/10

Pit and N would be friends like, Pit see’s N as kinda a really mellowed out Palutena, and N see’s Pit as extremely similar to Hilbert so they both connect decently quickly. Not to mention both would have similar abandonment issues and both are very autistic coded. I think N would infodump random Pokemon facts to Pit and he would listen intensely

Splatoon Mech AU Infodump

AU Overview:

The use of Zapfish quickly modernized Inkfish society prior to the Great Turf War. Inklings quickly caught up with the Octarians tentacle and Zapfish infused machines, although still lacked technological finesse. The rising sea levels and struggle for land led to the two societies clashing. Mech battles raged across the scarce land that was left. Desperate to win, the Inklings poured everything they had into one Mech: Zeus. Powered by the Great Zapfish and manned by Captain Cuttlefish; the Mech overwhelmed the opposing Octarians, and eventually King Octavio, but at a price; the power surging through Zeus caused permanent damage to both Cuttlefish and Octavio, leaving them unable to transform from humanoid and swim form freely.

As a result of the war, Mechs were outlawed. Anyone caught owning, builing or engineering one were arrested. This hasn't stopped the youth from pursuing Mech races and battles in the underground Octarian domes and hangars, however... The allure and excitement has attracted every walk of life, including former Driver Captain Cuttlefish, who seems to be looking for a young Driver for a special mission...

Mech Mechanics:

Modern mechs use motion sense technology to pilot the mechs. Inkfish attach motion sensor rings to their wrists and ankles to control the movement of their mech. A rotating arm holds the Driver in place by supporting them around their waist so they can freely move their arms and legs.

Old Tech mechs use manual inputs from levers and buttons. Usually cramped sitting conditions with lots of buttons and levers surrounding the Driver. Some have pedals in the foot bay.

These relics from the Great Turf War serve as a potent reminder of the tensions that ran between Inklings and Octarians. Thankfully relations have improved between the two factions. Occasionally, things get out of hand and end up breaching to the surface where opponents have to out manoeuvre their opposition and the law.

Alright, after putting it off for a bit (due to real life being busy and also I got lazy), I’ve finally gone through and prepared the list of ships for the tournament! Congrats to the lucky 64, and apologies to anyone else whose ship didn’t make it in. I did appreciate every single entry that followed the rules, though, and all the infodumps made me smile!

Before the list, however, I wanna say that this post and the eventual bracket matchup post are going to double as places to post your propaganda via replies and reblogs (or even asks). I put this song on here for Zak. He's a father, he dies before his time, and his last meaningful action is to protect Valant, even after Valant tried to screw him over.

Santeria - Sublime

Okay I mostly put this on here to add length, but I can justify it. Zak develops a problem with violence later in life. This is a very bitter song, and it makes me think of him embracing his anger and his resentment after he loses everything.

Lonesome Loser - Little River Band

Another one that reminds me of both Zak and Valant. Zak is a loser in that he experiences a great amount of loss in his life, but Valant is a loser in that he cannot win. He just can't win.

Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac

As you may have ascertained, I was having a bitch of a time finding songs that suited Thalassa and Magnifi while simultaneously fitting the feel of the playlist. This song is here for Thalassa.

Another one I mostly added for padding. It carries the same general message of Razzle Dazzle, of hiding the truth behind flash. I think this one really embodies what went on after Thalassa was shot.

I love Thalassa. I think she was deeply weird. Admittedly we don't get to see much of her personality, but the situation of being a magician's daughter with a lot of trauma and supernatural lie-detecting abilities really makes me think that she was an oddball, and I think that was what made her so charming. A real barefoot, dance out in the rain kind of person.

What motivates you to write?

My friends! Every single person who has told me that they want to see Call Me Icarus come to life motivates me. Every time I get a message from Feral or Crypt or Nats or Creme or anyone that tells me that they love the characters I create and the stories I tell motivates me to keep writing.

A line/short snippet of your writing that you are most proud/happy of. If not, maybe share a line of someone else's work you love (just please credit them):

ooooh there's a few pieces that I'm really proud of. If I had to choose just one there's this specific line in Incorrect Eyes that really does not make sense out of context, but I feel like I did a damn good job of portraying panic and anxiety in it (i bolded it so it will stand out):

My phone was always going off, messages from teammates, friends, family that I just couldn’t answer. Didn’t know how to answer. “Are you okay?” I didn’t know, I couldn’t feel anything other than numbness and fear. “Where have you been?” Hiding. Hiding and working and sinking further into the pit of despair and paranoia. “Your friends are wondering where you are.” I wondered that too, where was I? What was I doing? What were these words around me? Why were there eyes everywhere? I didn’t know what to do, I felt like I lost my mind. I couldn’t sleep, couldn’t think, couldn’t breathe without being watched. I needed to escape and I did not know how.

Which OC makes you smile every time you think/ talk about them and what are they like?

Icarus! I grin so big when I talk about him!! He is a rat bastard and I have so so so much fun torturing him!

Like, I literally light up when I get to infodump about him to people, he is a special interest of mine at this point. He is an emotionally constipated piece of shit that refuses to get over his dual god and inferiority complexes and he is my everything

What process of writing do you enjoy the most?

I really enjoy putting things together. Like, you just finished all your plotting and writing and light revisions, time to run over it one time from front to back and put everything together. That's what I like the most

What part of writing do you think you are the best at? (Yes stroke your own ego it's okay)

hhhhhhh that's a question. I'm actually feeling pretty shit about my writing right now, but if I had to choose I think I'm pretty darn good at descriptions. Like, I can absolutely get you put into a room down to the smell of that room and the dingy off-white stain in the corner lol

What is something in the writeblr community that is most enjoyable?

I really enjoy the people. Like, the tag games come and go, the questions are more off than on, but the people? We are always here and always sharing parts of ourselves and out writing. Everytime @cream-and-tea's snippets of Pallas cross my dash I get giddy, I love seeing @isherwoodj's work (especially when Doc is involved) too! I just love the community and the friends I've made, if that makes sense

A writing tool/device you use that helps you with writing? (It could be speech to text, a writing program etc)

Scrivener for sure, like being able to organize my WIP exactly how I want it to be organized and not have to deal with a huge ass document is amazing! I also love that I can very easy rearrange the order of things and have multiple drafts open without having to have multiple instances of a program open!

I also heavily rely on speech to text, I have a bad habit of small typos that most programs wont catch (i.e. my instead of me, by instead of be type stuff) The only way I've found to reliably catch these is through speech to text since my eyes will just jump right over them!

A piece of worldbuilding that you like in your own story? (It could be the magic system, a particular place in the story, a law etc)

I really love incorporating mythology into my worldbuilding. It doesn't matter what my WIP is, it will have mythological significance. It's obvious to see in CMI, but it really shines in Desecrate. A lot of things in that WIP have heavy mythological significance (such as the characters names, Christian "Kit" Amadeus Michaels and Adonai)

What piece of advice would you say to encourage others to write if they are having a rough patch?

Take care of yourself, there cannot be a book written by you without you.

psyche was a greek mythology figure who suffered over her love for eros. upon finding out he was a god, she attempted to kill him, ending up punished for this action.

again, i feel like this explains itself.

sylph of time - melinoë

a goddess who brings nightmares and madness. some say she is the goddess of ghosts. i think this fits in nicely and ties into a sylph of time.

SO, here's a small info dump about Beastos's original concept/design and more headcanons for ya! :D

The original concept and redesign:

Beastos was originally meant to be a part of a God of War/The Last Guardian AU, with Beastos playing the role of Trico and Atreus the Boy. It didn't work out for various reasons ;;

Beastos was originally designed to be a griffin, the very first picture I ever drew of him can be found here! But something about this first iteration didn't sit right with me, so I started to draft/brainstorm.

I played with the idea of making him into some sort of chimera, which was/still is my favorite Greek mythological creature. Each part of his design represents something: mane/back legs of a lion = power, eagle wings/talons = a nod to Icarus's wings, and the head of a ram = referencing the golden fleece/the ram heads on Kratos's god armor from GOW2.

Beastos is zygodactyl in reference to Athena's owls, thus having ties to both gods of war. (yes, I put way too much thought into this lmaooo).

MORE headcanons:

Beastos has a very slow lumbering gait, similar to a bear. Despite his size, he is capable of short bursts of speed. 

When he isn’t eating fallen soldiers or scared villagers, Beastos has a habit of picking off livestock. Mainly cows and pigs, he remembers them tasting better when cooked...

His feathers have a slight golden sheen. Some villages have taken to collecting any lost feathers off the battlefield and selling them as blessed trinkets, claiming them to ward off the famed Beast of Ares. It never works lol

Because of Beastos’s connection to Ares, he is revered in Sparta... slightly. His feathers adorn the spears of soldiers for luck in battle, and rams are often offered as sacrifice; if only to spare their city-state from the beast’s jaws. 

edit: silly side note, but if beastos ever had fight/battle music, it would be this lol

sorry for the late sts ask, how athletic are your ocs? do any of them enjoy sports, and which sports?

Happy belated sts! Hmm honestly most of them are pretty athletic considering the situations they're in, and most of them don't really have time for like regular sports?? Does combat count?? I'm just going to infodump about combat

Crys: Talented archer, pretty good stamina and agility, but weaker close combat wise because he's bad at taking hits or dealing heavy blows. If he does have to fight in close quarters he'll draw his dagger and rely on his speed and strategy, but he does better as a long-range fighter. (For whatever reason, still keeps charging into battle to take hits for other people. He is soooo self-sacrificial it's not even funny anymore. Someone get him to therapy.)

Icarus: Okay so honestly he's like quite athletic, but combat-wise he's just sorta... mid. (Sorry Ink.) He's got the strength and reflexes to wield dual shortswords, and a lot of training, though, so he can usually hold his own - but out of the main cast, he's one of the least talented ones.

Rhyme: Knows how to throw a good punch, and is pretty athletic from hiking all over the mountains daily, but she's the one with the least combat training. The team's second ranged fighter, though she uses spells rather than arrows. Her attacks are often powerful enough to keep enemies at bay, and the team has learned to cover for her so she has space to cast spells, but on the off chance she has to do close combat she's in trouble.

Sol: Close-combat expert, wields gauntlets, but someone please stop him from charging in so recklessly. Quick on his feet with a lot of force behind his punches and kicks, but does not know how to take a hit without hurting himself. He thinks it's fine because he can regenerate, and anyway he's used to being the bait. Someone teach him the meaning of self-defense.

Dahlia: Actually kind of ripped. Has been carting around milk crates and sacks of flour for forever. Taught in basic self-defense considering they're a small village surrounded by woods where Witchrisen and bandit attacks are a risk, BUT it's like the very basic of basics. So when she picks up a sword midbattle to lop off a Witchrisen's head and says "huh this is surprisingly easy" everyone else is just like??? Anyway yeah she's a genius swordswoman because it's funny.

Beatriz: Wields a rapier!! Also not particularly good at taking heavy hits or dealing hard blows, but is ridiculously agile and adept at dodging, plus has very fine control over wind magic. Might just be the most skilled in the main cast, but if you tell her that she probably won't believe it. Desperately in need of some self confidence.
