Fallen Python… he’s based off that ending where Forsyth dies. So ow. This is mostly in game terms for, some reason

i think a green bow unit because… green, Forsyth… why not? He can counterattack close up, the bow shifting into a lance for flavour.

Anyway not sure on his design except for a bit of Forsyth’s armour acting as that one paldron he has.

One of his positive quotes would be him about to say i’m a Forsyth to be reckoned with!! Only to cut himself off partway through in confusion.

Alright but I’m obsessed with this -- he takes on parts of Forsyth’s colors/armor and parts of his personality and even parts of his speech... anything to keep his friend from disappearing for good....

I especially like the angst of Python picking up on his quotes. I always pictured that version of Python clamming up and being hauntedly quiet after Forsyth’s death, but I really like the idea that he keeps talking. After a lifetime of joking to Forsyth to shut up and quit nagging him, now he’s the one doling out the same advice and bad puns and catching himself halfway through. Much to think about 

I also love the fighting style thing. Not only does having both ranged and close attacks make for an interesting unit, it’s also way more dangerous -- and likely directly connected to his death. (On a different note, I think a green/blue lance/bow would be a really cool looking weapon!)

The idea that I'd have any lingering effect on anyone at all makes me feel immense joy <3 thank you so much, this was so beautifully written.

I hope so, I really hope some people would see my writing or read my encouragement for others and get inspired to write their own stories or craft their own art. It's like a chain because I myself was inspired by others to start writing! And other people in the future will be inspired by any of my readers who started/went back to writing because of me.

Finally putting down my Milgram fantasy au thoughts!

Haruka: Son of nobility, his parents were too busy with their own business and self-image to care for him. The family used to have hunting dogs and a beautiful decorative fish pond on the grounds, but the animals have gone missing (along with the Duchess’ prized necklace). Haruka’s little sister is the darling of the household/town, and he grows more strung tight and jealous. (I was really tempted to make him aquatic but it defeated the drowning metaphor lol). 

Yuno: So my original idea was a sorceress offering potions that help to fall in love, find wealth, make dates go perfectly, (and ones to handle some consequences of said dates.) She’s got the classic aesthetic of lives in an isolated icy tower in lavish clothing, seemingly helpful and social but it’s clear there’s far more to her than she’s letting on. However, now I'm super biased by @dearmahiru's vampire Yuno thoughts and I may be running with that in the future...

Fuuta: I mean this all started from the knight au in his mv. Specifically he joins/leads a band of knights who haven’t sworn loyalty to a single lord, believing their own sense of justice will prevail. While he can’t use magic himself, he can still wield his fire sword with ease. He catches word of a witch in a nearby village and charges in.

Muu: A princess, way higher ranked than Haruka but knows his family. She’s studying in a foreign kingdom to gain more knowledge of the world as she’s next in line for the throne, but her treatment there isn’t quite what she expected. There’s nature magic in her bloodline though she hasn’t quite mastered it. Violent and animal/insect tendencies can arise in moments of strong emotion. 

Shidou: A healer who’s known for his helpful magic and beautiful garden of medicinal plants. After the death of his family, he secretly seeks out dark tomes and spells to begin learning necromancy. The craft isn’t exact, and a few lives must be sacrificed to the cause. Only the really observant notice that his usually carefully-tended garden has started to wilt. 

Mahiru: She’s a faerie in the woods near a major city. She’s heard all about human society, and became so captivated by stories of true love and fairy tale romance that she left her forest for the first time in her long life to try and live with them. Her knack with nature allowed her to pick up a florist job easily, but there are plenty of things she still doesn’t quite understand – different human culture and boundaries she misses in her focus on love.

Kazui: Bard who travels the kingdom with his performances. He left his wife at home for extended periods of time during these trips, and accidentally falls for someone new on the road. It also allows danger to move closer to his wife while he's far and unable to protect her.

Amane: Aspiring priestess who rarely leaves the temple in her childhood. She's some kind of chosen one/holy vessel being trained to channel or communicate with her deity. She feels immense pressure from the monks and priests around her. Mirroring her t2 change, she ends up channeling a demon instead of the god she was hoping for. 

Mikoto: A witch who has a pretty normal job in the city, but he also advertises his clairvoyance and spirit medium talents. With the strange happenings in his house (things not where he left them, blacking out, concerning bloodstains), he assumes he’s just being haunted by the ghosts he reaches out to, and doesn’t know the truth about his other alter(s)

Kotoko: An ex-knight druid. She calls herself an assassin, though she’s not associated with any kind of guild or group. She's in tune with animals, speaking with wolves and other beasts to rally them to her cause. (There’s nice aesthetic contrast between her animal wildness/raw power compared to the civilized justice systems she left behind.)

m8 this opera history book im reading makes gluck sound like the best thing since sliced bread and so now I want to get into gluck. where should I start in terms of his operas/productions?

ok. so out of all Gluck's work, i think the very best start is Orfeo ed Euridice, which was his first reform opera. The thing with Gluck is he was trying to reform from the Baroque era to the Classical era, so you can really see how the opera struggles to emerge from itself, i guess? As a result the music is Clsssical but serves Baroque sensibilities, and the characters are halfway between real people and representative of humanity or ideals as a whole.

Anyway, I always point to the Irish National Opera's production as THE BEST Orfeo ed Euridice I've seen so far (see the video below, lmk if you want a copy)

Almost all productions today are a mix of the Paris (french, Orfeo as a tenor) and Vienna (italian, Orfeo as contralto/countertenor) versions. Orfeo ed Euridice's story is at its core this overarching theme of love and it's able to bypass a lot of conventional gender roles because of how it's been changed and adapted throughout the opera's creation.

Other good productions (not necessarily fave takes) include the ROH/La Scala production with Florez, the Theatre des Champs Elysees with John Eliot Gardiner (both Paris versions), and the one with Jaroussky and Diego Fasolis (Vienna). I have a more extensive list here.

Once you're done with Orfeo ed Euridice, I'd recommend Alceste (Vienna version ONLY). It's also a reform opera and you start seeing how Gluck's getting the hang of the Classical era style of opera with focus on the story and characters over embellishments. It's dreary and dragging but it's worth it. Also you can hear how some orchestration influences Mozart later on. The only production with the Vienna version is the one by Teatro La Fenice.

Another great one is Iphigénie en Tauride/Iphigenie auf Tauris (though i'm not sure if it was still considered reform) and Echo et Narcisse.

Ultimately, I love Gluck's reform opera because of how much love is in them (i mean. Orfeo ed Euridice has this chorus called trionfi amore. literally love wins.). His music has its cracks and I've heard the criticism that he gives lazy happy endings but I think its very human and really shows how we got to Mozart from Gluck's reforms.

@afraidofchange sent [ WAIT ]:  realizing the receiver is about to leave the room, the sender hastily reaches out and catches their wrist, preventing them from continuing their departure.

It's not like she really knew where to go here,  anyway.   She's worked so hard to push away her wife's insistence on real help and instead,   reverted back to the only way she'd ever been helped before  ---  if that's what she could call it.   Bulldozing her way into Van's life unexpectedly,   showing up at Lottie's compound ready to explore what it was that seemed to help Nat  ---  25 years ago,   she might have laughed at herself,   but now,  somehow it feels like the safer option,  compared to what's waiting for her back at home.   These people know her in a way that no one else possibly could,   because she'd never given anyone else the chance to know her in the same way.   Van,  especially,  has seen her at her worst,   helped her through it even when Tai gave her every reason to turn way,   and she was the onyl one with any real connection to this other side of her   (   even more than Tai herself.  )    

She was here,  she was participating,   but she didn't really know if any of this was helping.  There was comfort in taking a break from her life,   despite knowing her phone was likely blowing up with notifications from her the hospital and her in laws,   her assistant who is now without a car,   the team she abandoned just days after she'd been elected,   and hopefully,  her wife who had made it through.    She needed to get away from all of it,   that perfectly crafted life she built that had started to crumble.   That other part of herself drew her to Van,   and she convinces herself that it hadn't been a conscious effort at all ---  that some other force that she doesn't even believe in had brought them together for a reason. 

She freezes the moment Van grabs her arm and slowly turns back around to look at her.    It's strange,   how easy it is to fall back into place with her,   and yet at the same time,   feel miles apart.   The look in her eyes captures both feelings.   ❝  Let's just---  let's go for a walk,   figure out what's up with this place.  ❞    She's curious,   and she doesn't really want to leave Van just yet anyway.     ❝  I get it,   if you want to leave.  Never wanted you to feel like you had to be here,   but ---  might be fun,   figuring out what the hell Lottie's been up to,  right?  ❞    she suggests in an attempt to get her to want to stay,   at least for a while longer.
