Like many of us, discovering our escape is often how we uncover our true selves, as untouched and genuine as we could possibly be. For Silveira, it was no different. “In those worlds, I would always be a boy,” he says. “And I remember that being part of my story right from the get-go. I didn’t have friends when I was a kid, and if I did, I always played by myself. And my presentation was male. I was being a boy.” For some reason, this reminds me of one of the lyrics to ‘Not Your Boy’ as Silveira, with vocals as sultry and heartbreaking as ever, sings: “Everything’s profound / When you are on a cloud / Riddled by this crowd / That just can’t feel me / When the darkness disappears / The only thing inside that can see / Is in the lie that tells me / I’ve been dreaming / Am I dreaming?” [...] Finding your way through the maze of identity is challenging enough, but doing it in the public eye adds another level of complexity. This was particularly true for Silveira, who already had a well-established audience with fixed ideas about who he was at the time. “When I started transitioning physically, I lost a very diehard and loyal audience of mainly cis-gendered females, and it was this double impact that it had on me, which was, ‘Oh, I knew that nobody was seeing me as being a real man. Because even though I was identifying as Lucas, and as he/him, my presentation to them was still seen as being a cis-gendered female.'” Continuing, Silveira adds: “I even had lesbians call me ‘she’, and I’d be like, ‘it’s actually ‘he”. So, it was really not ever taken seriously. So, what ended up happening was not only the fallout of me, but it was the understanding that I’d never been very validated in that aspect. It was the loss of my family. And it was pretty heartbreaking.” However, despite finding facets of supporters in certain places, even the most seemingly accepting parts of the music industry didn’t feel very safe. “I went from being out very privately to all of a sudden being a signed band and being on tours with Cyndi Lauper, The B-52’s, and Joan Jett, and people were talking about my trans-ness and asking me all these questions, and I was just getting to know myself.” “That didn’t go so well with a lot of trans folks,” he continues. “At the time, there was no non-binary movement, so what ended up happening was I also got flack from the trans community for not being a real man. And I wasn’t a real trans person because if I was, I would have chosen hormones and my presentation and my transition physically over my music career.”

In November 2022 Dolly Parton was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, against her protests. 17 November 2023 Dolly Parton released her first Rock album, "Rockstar". In January 2023 Dolly said in an interview with The View “If I’m going to be in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, I better do something to earn it, So, I’m doing a rock ‘n’ roll album, and I’m having a lot of the rock stars that I met that night be on the album with me.” On the album are folks like,  Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Sting, Joan Jett, Steven Tyler, and Pat Benatar plus 9 new tracks. I have never bought a Dolly Parton album even though I own 12, but I pre-ordered Rockstar because I find it commendable that she wanted to Earn her place in the Rock Hall of Fame.

i forgot that tilly was asked to be the first officer of discovery in the third season. and, I think how mind-blowing that is. i like discovery a lot but sometimes the writers make truly mind-boggling choices.

i forgot that tilly was just a cadet in s1 and then an ensign.

making her an (acting) first officer, while still an ensign, was a bizarre choice. (harry kim is crying somewhere)

especially since nilsson and rhys take control of the bridge when the command team is out.

unfortunately, the way discovery is configured we don't really know most of the bridge crew.

or, maybe it would have been better if a new character was introduced as their 32nd-century guide and as a temporary XO.

but also, who is the senior staff of discovery? do we know?

i assumed that culber was CMO all this time only to find out from interviews he wasn't the CMO.

stamets can't be the chief engineer since he's science division and he mans the spore drive function and not the whole ship. i assume its jett reno.

who was the head of security when nhan left? is it rhys??? why is booker (who I really like) memory alpha listed the head of security of discovery (season 4)??? he's not starfleet.

i just realized the whole problem why they got tilly as acting first officer is because I don't think any of the writers in seasons 2 to 3 of discovery sat down and solidified the hierarchy on the ship other than captain.

it's so nebulous and it doesn't need to be nebulous.

it's like how inconsistent the ranks are on SNW uniforms.

i know these are nitpicks but these are details that help build out the world. and it's such an easy thing to address too, it's frustrating they don't.

and this is on the discovery writers for not taking the time to iron it out. i understand they want to focus on different people and keep the heroics away from the bridge, other than saru and michael. but that doesn't excuse how lazily they went about it.

anyway this is just a bug bear that I stumbled on when I remembered how tilly was made into acting first officer of discovery. it didn't niggle at me back then but somehow rewatching voyager and a lot of other trek made me realize, I can actually pinpoint the line of command on each show but stumble on it when it comes to discovery seasons 3 and 4.

again, i think this is why season 5 is doing a great job. wilson cruz said that by season 5 he might as well be the CMO, so I'm taking that as canon.

this is what happens when every season and episode is just one story of crisis situations without any standalone downtime episodes.

(this is also a problem for picard s3. it's the single story and 10 episode thing. it ties the hands of writers.)

what i wouldn't give for a discovery episode where the ship is just doing routine maintenance. follow an engineering team down a jeffries tube, watch them have a boring senior staff meeting where all department heads report to michael.

(wait, have we seen discovery do a senior staff meeting scene?)

have rayner sit down and manage personnel.

honestly, i think the trek that does the best in doing personnel, handling extras, and making a realized world is still ds9.

Women‘s Day 2024

— To my favorite girls in rock —

This international women’s day is for these two incredible ladies. Immensely talented, candidly beautiful, tremendously underrated. They were trailblazers in their profession. At a time where the rock & pop music scene was dominated by male only bands, such as The Beach Boys or The Beatles, and crowds were bowing to rock-gods such as, Jimmy Page or Roger Daltrey, Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks were right up there with them. Women, as anything else than pretty faces and background singers were scarce in 1970s leading bands. Among Grace Slick, Joan Jett, Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart and of course ABBA‘s leading gals Agnetha and Frida, they were in good company but still leading ladies in rock bands were a rare breed.

Christine Anne Perfect had been in a band called Chicken Shack over in the old country when she married the bassist of Fleetwood Mac and finally joined his band in 1970. After their founding member and frontman had left the band (and in some ways also this universe), the rest of them, consisting of a rhythm section and two guitar players found themselves somewhat lost and in need of a fresh spark. The spark came in the shape of Christine (now McVie) a very talented keyboard player with a soulful, mellow voice who conveniently, had already been living with them, having spattered her talent all over the last album they’d made as an all male blues band. After a while the music scene in Great Britain had developed in a different direction as the Mac, so they decided to try their luck in the land of dreams — the United States. After initially being promised to be back home by christmas, Christine would stay with the band — abroad — for the next 28 years. She would be a driving force and function as the fierce and headstrong but at the same time caring and peacekeeping den mother of the group, captivating countless souls with her love drunken songs.

In 1975 the somewhat unlucky band that was Fleetwood Mac found themselves in need of personell once again. After all of their lead guitarists had either gone insane, joined a cult, were fired for infidelity or left to do their own thing, in particularly that order, the band anew, was missing a crucial part of their lineup leaving them with an uncertain future. Their luck seemed to have turned as a new guitarist was quickly found, only to discover that he came as a package — with a girl.

Stephanie Lynn Nicks was the grand daughter of an understated country singer who took little Stevie on stage when she was only five years old. Having grown up around music, writing songs since she was a teenager, she was trying to make it big with her boyfriend in the city of angels. Her dreamy lyrics and hoarse, rusty voice was a welcome contrast to Christine‘s neat and upbeat love songs and it was soon clear she would fit right in. Even after splitting with the very boyfriend that brought her into the band, she would stay on as the main focalizer and diligent contributor for decades to come.

Both of those women were in their own way unique and oh so contraire but still stuck together, having each others backs. Neither jealousy nor competition seemed to be able to break them apart. They were co-existing in the sometimes toxic but oh so vital eco-system that was Fleetwood Mac forming a symbioses, as friends, keeping each other sane and most importantly alive and kicking — kicking in the glass ceiling that was the male dominated scene of 70s music and thus paving the way for so many talented young girl-singers, songwriters and musicians to come.

Christine once casually stated in an interview upon being asked if she ever felt the got enough credit, that nobody ever really said, ‘thanks for groundbreaking‘, so here it is: Thank you, ladies. Thank you, Christine McVie, queen of the keys and Stevie Nicks, goddess of the stage, for groundbreaking, for being role models in many more ways than just your talent in music. Thanks for sticking up for each other, for lifting each other up instead of taking each other down, for showing us what true and honest sisterhood is all about. Thank you from the bottom of the heart of just another girl out there trying to make it.

what's the story between the Pistols and Joan Jett? was she a fan?

massive fan! heres a few interviews of her talking about her love for their music (link 1, link 2). she did a cover version of pretty vacant and shes worn their merch a lot. she even had her own homemade sex pistols shirt back in the 70s

when the runaways toured england in 1977, they hung out with the sex pistols during their stop in london. sandy west pushed sid vicious over the side of a boat apparently. after the pistols broke up in 1978, steve jones played live with the runaways while hanging around in LA. jonesy liked the runaways so much that he gifted them a song he wrote called black leather. it appears on the runaways fourth album if you want to listen to it...or you can listen to the guns n roses cover version lol

when the runaways split in 1979, joan flew over to london to reunite with jonesy and he (along with paul cook) played backup for her on a few tracks. two of the three songs they recorded together (you don't own me and don't abuse me) were included on her bad reputation album!

the third song that joan recorded with jonesy and cookie was i love rock n roll. it didnt make it onto the album but showed up as a b-side to her version of you don't own me. in 1981, joan would re-record the song with the blackhearts and thats the version that became a smash hit

during his interview with nardwuar, johnny lydon commented that he viewed the runaways as a fun band. pretty standard take from him as hes always preferred female fronted punk bands over male fronted punk bands

ppl who participated in the signing got to do a sweepstakes for a merch package and when the spokesperson was showing it off joe was like "and it's got a LOCKPICK and a GARROTE and a BALACLAVA so just DO WHATEVER DAMAGE YOU LIKE"

he introduced black flag, his favorite band, to his daughter and she thought it sounded terrible lkdfjldjfkd

when fob went to induct green day at the hall of fame joe mentions smoking weed with joan jett and miley cyrus. icon.

he regrets not having better tools to deal with his anxiety about touring and worrying about how every time he got in the van he'd be leaving home. "...and i wish i had, instead of looking out the back window, looked toward the front of the van and realized i was with four or five of my best friends and that i was in safe company."

re: the rest of the band, "they are like brothers, at the end of the day. it's a brotherly relationship."

his 8 year old begs him to watch horror movies and r-rated movies with him and he tells her she can watch them when she's 30

when asked about his proudest accomplishment: "i love all my children equally. but here's the reality. i am SO proud of fall out boy because it's a gigantic band that i started as a teenager. we just did stadium shows supporting GREEN DAY."

his favorite video game is final fantasy 7. he says he "nearly flunked" out of middle school because of it.

he has a hard time picking a favorite horror movie since he loves horror but he picks "texas chainsaw massacre" as the one that affected him the most. he also recommends "anything for jackson" because it will "give you nightmares, if you are interested in having nightmares"

his favorite star wars character is yoda because his wisdom applies to real life very frequently

a fan-submitted question talked about with knives and how much the fan liked his vocals and both the interviewer and joe smiled REALLY big!!!!

sadly he doesn't like singing that much cause he doesn't like his voice. also he says fall out boy has a really good singer already. but he won't rule out doing some solo venture and recording super distorted vocals someday

re: what he wants to be remembered for the most - "having a sick bod, man."

"no, genuinely, i want my children to remember me as a good father. that's like the truth. and for having a sick bod."

he really doesn't hold any grudges about the hazing he got in the early days of touring because it was an initiation ritual and it weathered him quickly to touring life. he doesn't think people could get away with it now though.

re: favorite song to play live - "i don't care" because it "Just Rocks." and it's really fun!

his bluetooth in his car started playing "of all the gin joints in the world" and he texted patrick about how good of a song it was and how it'd be nice to play it live again

Touch her, smell her, taste her— The instincts were a running river. He fisted his hands at his sides.

“It—it was a tug. On the bond.”

“No—I didn’t have time. I felt her, but …” A blush stained his cheek.

Lucien inclined his head in a bow, the movement hiding the gleam in his eye—the longing and sadness.

"an uncontrollable instinct - for a male to eliminate any threat. But he remained sitting. Even as his fingers dug into the arms of his chair."

he tried to hide his disappointment and longing.

Elain

But Elain was staring over Nesta’s shoulder. At Lucien—whose face she had finally taken in.

Her eyes were the brown of a fawn’s coat. And he could have sworn something sparked in them as she met his gaze.

she was aware of what he was to her.

Elain only stared at him for a long moment.

It felt … strange,” Elain breathed. “Like you pulled on a thread tied to a rib.”

Their gazes locked and held. But Elain said nothing. Did not so much as take one step downward. / And when Lucien turned to signal to Rhys to go … He did not glance back at Elain. Did not see the half step she took toward the stairs—as if she’d speak to him. Stop him.

Elain only wrapped her arms around herself and remained at my side.

Elain only shrank further into herself

Lucien is one of the authors favorite characters, confirmed in interviews. She even called him "her love" when she had Tumblr.

Which of these two options is more likely?

Elain is truly uncomfortable around her mate, one of SJMs favorites who she based off Jamie Fraser from Outlander, which explains her reactions to him in the series. Where she's just so put off by him that she's cringing away from how terrible / hideous he is.

Both Elain and Lucien are so used to being in control of themselves, where they make sure to dress the part, remain calm and collected and well mannered, where they rarely swear or lash out or act improper. But with their bond, their control is stretched so thin by the desire to be near and touch one another (confirmed by multiple characters who felt the bond snap) that they have both put distance between them because it's the only way they can hang on to the persona they present to the world. Lucien held her in his arms, blushed after reaching for her through the bond, has to physically restrain himself from reacting, has tried to hide his longing for her but now has not come within touching distance to her, though his struggle is clear to anyone looking. Elain's internal battle isn't evident, no one knows what she's truly thinking but as Feyre said, she's even got Az beat for secret keeping.

If this is why Nesta pushed Cassian away -

“From the moment I met you, I wanted you more than reason. From the moment I saw you in my house, you were all I could think about. And it terrified me. No one had ever held such power over me

Then why are we assuming there's not a similar explanation for Elain? Sure, she was willing to hook up with Az just as Nesta was willing to sleep with many males who weren't Cassian but that's easy to do when your feelings for that person don't overwhelm you. Casual and fun are what the doctor ordered after the trauma of being made, experiencing war and losing one's father.

That doesn't mean Elain won't eventually be brave enough to face the things that scare her

New Love [Joseph Quinn x Reader]

A/N: sorry, this took long to write. I work fulltime at a day care, and it has been pretty hectic that I barely had time to write anything. I hope you enjoy it. I think this might be one of my longest that I have written.

You were finally returning to work on Stranger Things 4. You had been a regular on the show since season 1 and were definitely excited to see where this season takes your character. You had heard around that there were going to be some new characters, therefore new cast mates. You loved meeting and collaborating with new people. You make your way to set and excitedly find Maya and Joe Keery. Everyone was so happy to see each other, and you couldn’t wait to welcome the newcomers. “How are you guys? I feel like I haven’t seen you guys in forever.” You exclaim at the two. “I am so excited to start filming, the script sounded so good.” Maya said excitedly. You notice a cute curly headed guy walk on set and start introducing himself to the others. You had never actually seen any of his work before and therefore, weren’t too sure about who he was. he started making his way over to where you were talking with Maya and Joe. “Hello, I’m Joseph.” He begins to shake Keery’s and Maya’s hands. “Nice to meet you, I’m Joe and this is Maya and Y/N.” Joseph sticks his hand out for you to shake but you were lost in your thoughts. ‘Wow, he’s super and English’ you thought. Keery snaps his fingers in your face to get your attention. You shake away your thoughts, slightly embarrassed. “Hi, sorry.” You apologise. Joe just smiles at you, which makes you feel slightly weak in the knees. ‘How is this man having this effect on me?’ you question yourself.

Everyone gets called into a huddle by the Duffer brothers, ready to give a welcome back speech and direct everyone on what is going on. You look around at everyone’s faces, listening and super focused. Your eyes land on Joe once again, admiring the way he looked in the natural light. He catches you looking and shoots you a small smile. You blush and smile back. After the quick meeting, you make your way to the hair and makeup trailer. You knock on the door softly and wait for an answer. You are greeted by Amy, the head of the hair department, smiling wide at you as she lets you in. “Hey, how are you?” she gives you a small hug and you sit down in the chair. “I’m good, how are you?” you answer back. “I’m good. Excited to be back and working?” you smile wide at her. “Of course, it’s so good to see everyone and to finally be working on the show again.” You reply happily. You had to admit that you were a bit of a workaholic when it came to the show. You had studied the script tirelessly before coming into work today, wanting to be prepared. You go over your lines for the day while gets started on your hair. This season, your hairstyle would be different than the past seasons, going from black, curled Farrah Fawcett styled hair to more of a Joan Jett style mullet as your character was beginning to have a bit of a rock n roll vibe. You hear a soft knock on the trailer door and then the sound of it opening then closing. In walks Joe Quinn, catching your eye once again. You started to feel a little nervous in his presence, what did he think about you staring at him earlier? Did he think it was weird?

“Hey Y/N, hair is looking good.” He gives you a small smile. He sits down in the chair next to yours. He notices that you’re reading the script again. “So, which character are? Sorry, I haven’t really seen the show so I’ve been asking everyone who they play” you giggle at him, and you can see him relax little. “I play Dustin’s sister, Amelia Henderson. Who are you playing?” you ask him, you weren’t able to attend the table reads but playing a reoccurring character, you were allowed to miss it. He smiles wide and replies “Eddie Munson. Looks like we fall in love this season.” You laugh and start to blush again. Eddie was described as the metalhead misfit of the season; you couldn’t wait to see how he looked as the character. You could see the various different concept pictures of his different wig styles, but you weren’t sure about what his final look was.

You left the trailer before Joe did, so you weren’t able to see his final look. You waited for your cue to walk into the scene you were shooting. As you walked into camera view, you had spotted Joe and suddenly forgot your lines. He looked amazingly hot in his Eddie attire. You pull yourself together before anyone notices you staring. You act out your scene, executing your lines perfectly. Once you heard ‘cut,’ you notice Joe smiling at you from the side. He was admiring your acting skills. You blush to yourself again, hiding it better this time. You knew Maya was watching you intently as your scene was alongside her. You gave her the side eye as you knew she was teasing you in her mind what she was witnessing between you and Joe, you knew you would get a grilling from her later. Joe was called to set to film the next part of your scene, your characters were meeting for the first time. Quiet on set was called, followed by action and you and joe were in full character. Your characters were meeting in the school cafeteria after Eddie gives the instructions of finding a sub to Dustin and Mike, you walk over to where the boys stood. You deliver your lines, ‘Hey Dustin, mom is gonna be home late tonight, so I’ll pick you up after Hellfire.’ ‘Hey there Henderson’ you could feel the butterflies starting to form in your stomach from Joe’s gaze. ‘Munson, I’m just trying to have a conversation with my little brother.’ Joe walks over to you, grabs your hand and gives your knuckles a gentle kiss. The feeling of butterflies gets stronger, and a genuine blush appears on your cheeks. ‘Eddie seriously’ roll your eyes, you turn back to Gaten, ‘I’ll see you later Dustin.’ You walk off set as the cut is called. You walk to your cue, ready to hear feedback on whether you’ll need to film it again. “Well done guys, we’ll move on to the next scene.” Matt Duffer calls out. You head back to your trailer to wait until you’re needed again. As you’re walking, you hear someone call out to you. “Hey Y/N, wait up.” You turn to find it was Joe. He jogs over to where you are standing. “Do you want to hang out and maybe go over our lines together?” He seems nervous as he waits for you answer. “Sure, I’m cool with that.” You smile at him.

That became the daily routine for you and Joe, doing scenes together or just hanging out in either your trailer or his, going over lines. Maya would tease you in the evenings about how close you and Joe had gotten, how cute you would both be together. Your response was either you blushing or giving her a small shove. She was one of your best friends on set. You and Joe had eventually become so close that you both decided one night to make it official, but you kept it private from the fans. Filming had been wrapped for a few months now and it was time for the cast to start promoting the new season and going on press tours. You were obviously teamed up with Joe for most of the interviews but there were a few where you were both partnered up with Maya and Keery. The four of you always had lots of fun in the interviews, goofing around, making jokes and reminiscing about all the fun everyone had on set.

Tonight was the red carpet and you decide to sit on Tik Tok as your hair was being styled. You always came across fan edits about you and Joe’s characters, the fans loved them together. Some videos started to come up of the fans shipping you and Joe, some theorising that something was going on between the two of you. An image pops up on one video of you and Joe leaving your favourite restaurant hand in hand after your last date night together. You felt a pang of nervousness inside you, you weren’t sure whether Joe had seen this or not. Then you hear a knock at your hotel door. “Come in, it’s open.” You call out, you weren’t worried about who it as your whole hotel floor was had security. In walks Joe, also looking nervous but very handsome in his Kenzo suit he had chosen to wear. He gives you a quick kiss and then sits down on an armchair close to you, admiring you with loving eyes. You show him the video you just saw. He watches it a few times, focused and in thought. “Maybe we should go public tonight. I mean they already suspect it.” He shrugs, like it was an obvious option, but you didn’t think he was actually ready. “I’m ready to if you are.” You look at him in the mirror. He gives you a comforting smile, as he reaches for your hand. You enjoy this moment for a minute, as you both acknowledge that you’re ready to share with the world that you’re in a relationship. You nod your head, then stand to change into your outfit for the red carpet. You were wearing a beautiful navy-blue, floor-length dress that hugged you in all the right places, matching with Joe’s suit. As you walk out, you notice Joe gawking at you, completely enamoured by your beauty. He walks over and captures you in a passionate kiss, surprising you. He’s given you many kisses but this time, it felt different; filled with more love and longing.

The ride to the red carpet seemed like it took forever as you were definitely filled with nerves about revealing your relationship with Joe. You knew you had nothing to worry about as the fans already expressed how much they’ve wanted you and Joe to end up together. Once you pull up to the venue, Joe gets out first. The flashing lights puts you in somewhat of a daze, then you focus on Joe reaching his hand out to help you out of the car. The camera flashes started getting crazier and questions are flying in your direction. Many asking if you were both dating and how long it has been going on. Joe gives your hand a gentle squeeze as he notices you getting a little anxious about it all. He was such a sweet and supportive boyfriend; you were head over heels for him. You just knew that your phone would be going crazy with notifications as you and Joe walked the carpet hand in hand, in your own little bubble of pure love and happiness. You greeted your castmates as you reached where they were all standing, ready for a group photo.

The next morning, you spent covered in the blankets with Joe, just holding each other. You hear your phone ping on the bedside table. A message from Maya, telling you to check twitter. You and Joe were trending after last night, the fans in shock and awe over the news. It was so hectic that your app kept crashing, unable to keep up the amount of traffic going through your newsfeed. You show Joe and you both just smile wide at each other. Finally happy that you don’t have any secrets from the fans but still some privacy to enjoy each other.
