Steve never turns the heater on in his car when he's alone. This is something Eddie picks up on fairly quickly, as summer turns to autumn, as the air cools down. The mornings are icy, now. There's a bite to each and every breath that you can suck in almost like smoke, and it's pleasant for all of two seconds before it chills you to the bone.

The first time he notices it, there's so much noise in the car that Eddie doesn't get a chance to say anything - Dustin is chattering on to Mike about god-knows-what. Instead, he just watches from the passenger seat as Steve clocks Will's chattering teeth in the rearview mirror and immediately reaches forward to crank up the dial.

The second time, it's just Steve and Eddie, and they're driving back from dropping Eddie's van off at the mechanics. Steve meets him outside the shop at a crisp 7am, and it's fucking freezing, honestly. Eddie slides into the passenger seat and winces at the way his breaths come out in a cloud. "Shit, dude," he groans, "aren't you cold?" Steve shrugs, focused on driving. "A bit, I guess. Help yourself." He waves at the AC settings carelessly. How the fuck are you not freezing your balls off? Eddie wonders, but he doesn't voice the thought aloud, though he very much wants to. There's something here, he thinks. There's something I'm not getting.

The third time it happens, Eddie doesn't even need to get in the car to know Steve didn't switch the heating on. He knows this because when Steve saunters into the new trailer, a 6-pack in hand, his lips are almost blue. He's wearing a too-thin jacket, undone over a plain shirt. Eddie frowns. "Jesus Christ, Steve," he murmurs, immediately rushing through to his room to grab a sweater. He throws it at Steve when he gets back out to the main room, chewing at the inside of his cheek. "What's this for?" "Because you're fucking freezing, man. Are you kidding me? You're turning to ice right in front of me, look at you." And it's so wrong that Steve looks so confused. It's so wrong. Because he's so clearly cold as hell. It looks painful, damn it, the way his hands are shaking, the way he can't quite move his fingers properly when he goes to pop the cap off of his beer. I am going to take care of you until you figure out how to take care of yourself, Eddie thinks, fierce and determined. And he does.

When Steve leaves that night, after the movie, Eddie makes him keep the black knit sweater on, makes him take it with him. "You look cute," he grins, aiming for playful, aiming for the misdirect. He likes the way it makes Steve blush, anyway. It's a win-win. Eddie follows close behind Steve down the steps of the trailer, catching the driver's door with a quick hand before it can slam closed. He waits for Steve to start the car before getting to work. "What're you-" Steve begins, falling silent as Eddie leans over him and switches the heating on. "You," he mutters, pulling back, tapping a finger on Steve's forehead. "You keep that on until you get home, you hear me, big boy?" Steve looks bewildered, but nods anyway.

Eddie starts bringing an extra jacket or sweater with him everywhere, after that, and it comes in handy more times than he'd like. He wishes it wasn't the only way to get Steve into his clothes. He buys Steve a hot water bottle with a cover that's the same yellow as that sweater that he loves so much. Eddie gets into the habit of calling Steve each night, and before he hangs up, he tells Steve to fill it up. Tells Steve to use it. He checks Steve's bed one day, pulls back the duvet a bit, and can't help but beam when he sees the hot water bottle tucked there. When he presses a hand to it, it's still warm.

One day, nearing Christmas, now, Eddie slides into the passenger seat of Steve's car, and the heater is already on, car toasty and warm. His cheeks dimple when he sees that Steve is already wearing Eddie's own black knit sweater; His smile only widens further as Steve comments, "Fucking freezing today, man. When did it get so cold?" Eddie just chokes out a laugh and throws the spare jacket he'd brought with him onto the back seat. He has to turn his head to look out the window so Steve can't see the proud tears in his eyes.

Yah know this is like a side blog to me cuz I planned on using it for Eddie and Eddie only and use my main for marvel stuff but I COULD NOT BE QUIET LIKE IM GOING INSANE IM BOTH EXCITED AND SCARED like Charlie Cox deserves the world and I’m so happy he gets to play Matt in multiple shows like Matt belongs to Charlie BUT Disney just sucks major ass and I’m so afraid for… everything? The cinematography, the heavy use of cgi, the entire character arc built in the og show like for eg I saw a post mentioning how they hoped Disney kept Matt’s scars. LIKE I DIDNT EVEN THOUGHT OF THAT BUT HOLY FUCK yah know? But rn I am a bit delusional and do have hope for a decent show. At least they’re doing it in 18 episodes.

For the first few nights of their relationship, Eddie is the little spoon. He and Steve both shuffle into that position without discussion; Steve curled tight around him, their hands linked and pressed against Eddie's bare chest, legs tangled together.

On the fifth day, Eddie walks in to Steve's room to find him fast asleep on top of the covers, curled up on his side, still in his work clothes. Eddie shucks his shirt off and slides onto the bed behind him, tucking an arm around his waist. Steve presses back against his chest, humming happily in his sleep, and it doesn't take long for Eddie to drop off next to him.

When Eddie wakes, it's because he's shaking. It takes him a second to get his bearings, but he soon realizes that Steve is sobbing.

"Shit, sweetheart," he mumbles, pushing up onto one elbow. He brushes Steve's hair back with his free hand, shushing him quietly. "Hey, now. Talk to me, baby."

But Steve doesn't have words. He cries and cries, alternating between pushing back against Eddie and pulling away.

Eventually, Eddie gently rolls Steve over and pulls him to lie against his chest. "It's okay," he whispers. "It's okay, Steve. It's okay. I've got you."

Fresh tears roll down Steve's cheeks. Eddie does his best to wipe them away, does his best to figure out what's going on. He cups Steve's cheek in one hand, and presses soft kisses across his forehead. "Talk to me, baby. Please."

Steve takes a sharp breath; shakes his head a bit. "I've just- never been held like that before. Always me doing the- holding- Caught me off guard. Didn't- don't- Sorry- Stupid-"

Eddie heart breaks. He kisses Steve gently and manouevres them back into their previous position, with Steve as the little spoon once more. "Like this, yeah?" Eddie asks, curling as much of his body around his boyfriend as he can.

Steve nods, still shaky.

"Sorry, Ed-"

"Please no apologies, Stevie. I've got you."

And he does. They lie like that for hours, Steve crying off and on, Eddie pressing kisses to the top of Steve's head and reminding him how loved he is - how loved he deserves to feel. As time goes on, Steve relaxes into the hold more and more.

Eddie makes sure Steve is little spoon damn near every night after that.

What book are you currently reading?

Rereading Good Omens because it’s one of my favorite books. I also just finished Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi for a class and it is so fantastic that if I had more social skills I would just start recommending it to random people on the street.

What’s your favorite movie you saw in theaters this year?

I have barely been to theaters this year, but I recently saw Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and I cried eight times. Such a good movie.

What do you usually wear?

My friends say that 80% of my closet is green and they’re not wrong. I wear a ridiculous amount of sweaters and jeans. I wear a lot of rings as well to play with during class :)

I’ve had a lot of projects this year! Always drawing, but I’ve finally started posting my fanfiction, Asterism, that’s been in the back of my mind for years. Other than that, I published a short story to a writing magazine that I definitely want to expand on, and I’ve got too many My Hero Academia, Arcane, Stranger Things and DSMP fic ideas saved up to count :]

What’s something you would like to create content for?

Definitely my own original works, but they’re just not at that stage yet. Maybe someday!

What’s something you’re currently obsessed with?

Stranger Things is a love of mine right now, and have recently gotten back into Six of Crows, Arcane, and My Hero Academia. Voltron still has me in a chokehold so that’s been a fun development.

What’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?

Most holidays. Didn’t really do anything :/

What’s a hidden talent of yours?

I can play most piano songs by ear, and I can do a really good impression of Tsuyu Asui 🐸

Are you religious?

I suppose. I grew up in a Christian school and just never had the connection with God other kids did and asked too many questions 😅. Still identify as religious, but in my own way. It's a big ol’ 🤷 for me.

As of 2 minutes ago, a sword. Like a Narnia sword oh my god I want a sword so bad.

Steve knows Eddie struggles to concentrate - sees the way he gets distracted by stuff so, so easily; sees how it helps him to have something to mess with. One day Eddie loans his rings to Mike to try out (even though they are so big & ridiculous on the teen) and Steve can see how much he's struggling to keep up with the conversations going on around them. His fingers are twitching, he keeps clenching and unclenching his fists, and pulling at the hem of his shirt, frustrated.

Steve doesn't even think about it, just shifts to sit next to Eddie and offers out his hand. Eddie doesn't hesitate. He immediately starts playing with Steve's fingers, tracing the freckles on the backs of his hands, tapping across his knuckles, soothing his thumb across center of his palm.

It calms Eddie down, but Steve soon discovers that it calms him down, too. From that day on, whether Eddie has his rings on or not, Steve always holds his hand out, and Eddie always takes it.
