Louis blaming himself for the destruction of the town at the end hurts so much and it’s so frustrating to watch Lestat keep trying to just wave it off and keep failing to realize or understand how deeply Louis is cut by the shards of his life falling apart around him, how deeply he’s cut every time someone mockingly compliments or insults him and his intelligence because he’s Black, how deeply it cuts him to watch his family push him away and hide from him because he’s not the person they used to know anymore, how deeply it cuts him to watch the business empire he’s built as a black man in the early 1900s be wrenched apart by white lawmakers who want to watch him fall, and how deeply he’s cut every time Lestat fails to understand or refuses to understand why he’s hurt so deeply by these things. Despite Lestat’s attempts to make Louis see the world his way, Louis still wants to keep his humanity, he stills wants to be himself and in this regard he is unable or unwilling to see that it has become an unattainable dream. He can’t walk the line between being a vampire and maintaining his human ties anymore.

there is of course the possibility that what happened to hamlin has nothing to do with football - specifically- or with the tackle he did right before. my senior year of high school, one of my classmates collapsed after a swim meet and he died and it turned out he had some kind of congenital heart issue that could cause sudden death. but the fact is that the nfl does not give a fuck about the health and safety of these players. they create rules and regulations solely with the intent of covering their own asses and then they don’t even enforce them meaningfully. the game has changed; players are bigger, the hits are harder, and the plays are more intense. but it is objectively a cop out to simply say the game is inherently dangerous. yes obviously. but there is MORE than enough money in the nfl and certainly in general to do everything they can to protect these players as much as possible. you cannot argue that they are doing that currently
