🦇 Jana Goes Wild Book Review 🦇
❝ "Don't worry about what people think about you. The only person you need to impress is you...It's okay not to be perfect." ❞
❓ QOTD Where did you go on your last family trip? ❓ 🦇 When Jana Suleiman meets Anil Malek, it feels like there's the promise of a real future between them. It's not until after two weeks of passion together that Jana learns the truth: Anil is married. Unfortunately, she never gets the chance to put those two weeks behind her; not when she realizes she's pregnant. Five years later, she's the bridesmaid for a destination wedding in Serengeti National Park, unaware that her potential new boss and ex are attending until she arrives in Africa. In an effort to prove she's "vibrant" and worthy of the job, Jana lets loose. Can she embrace her wild side and let go of the feelings (good or bad) she's harbored for Anil after all this time?
💜 Jana Goes Wild is an adventure for sure! Jana Suleiman is a perfectionist striving to meet the expectations of everyone around her; no easy feat when you also have a curious four-year-old at your side. Her co-parenting relationship with Anil is beautifully healthy despite the anonymity she still harbors. Farah Heron's descriptions of Tanzania will awe you, each page dragging readers into the wilderness and on a safari through Jana's mind and heart. The main source of conflict in the book is internal as Jana is forced to confront the emotions she's shoved aside for too long, both for the sake of her family and career. Heron also immerses readers in Muslim and Indian culture, both through wedding customs, food (there are recipes at the end!), and traditional mindsets. As a Muslim reader, I couldn't help but feel the burden of familial expectations Jana experiences, making it a very relatable read.
🦇 As much as I love tension, a lot of the conflict Jana and Anil faced was of Jana's own making. When she finally comes to recognize her mistakes and begins to make amends with Anil, she unfortunately repeats the same mistakes. Jana was a victim of gossip but allows gossip to overshadow everything she learned during her trip alongside Anil. While realistic (not every lesson we learn STICKS), it was also a little frustrating to see Jana repeatedly get in her own way. There's a lot of miscommunication between Jana and Anil; proof that communication is key to any healthy relationship. However, Jana DOES recognize the roadblocks she's causing on her own, and that self-awareness makes her journey all the more realistic.
🦇 Recommended to anyone who knows what the pressure of meeting someone else's expectations and standards feels like. It's okay if you're not perfect; that's part of being human. Also recommended if you love to travel the world without leaving the cozy comforts of your reading nook.
Read If You Love: 🐘 Enemies to Lovers 🐘 Second Chance Romance 🐘 Forced Proximity 🐘 Mental Health Focus 🐘 Opposites Attract 🐘 Romantic Comedy
🦇 Major thanks to the author Farah Heron and publisher for providing an ARC of this book via Netgalley. 🥰 This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.b

omg omg omg you guys!
I just finished this movie on Netflix and I can’t get over how AMAZING it was! So many surprises, twists and turns and the whole style - it was impeccable!
the movie is called “missing”, it’s from 2023 and it’s a so-called screenlife thriller, meaning the plot is only shown through computer screens, phone screens, apps, websites and security cameras.
the plot is as follows: 18-year old June’s mother Grace and Grace’s boyfriend Kevin head for a vacation to Colombia, and when June is about to collect them from the airport a week later, they never show up. With all her skills for social media, computers and phones, June tries to find her mother.
it was SOOOO good! just ... just watch it, I cannot say more.

oh absolutely, i’ve unfortunately gotten a look up close and personal on the twitter space and like, i do not have the time of day to block that many people. reddit was a disappointment i should’ve expected, i really finished the show and thought time to check out some fun post series discussion and fan theories, only to see it was a cannibalistic black hole of hatred and horrible takes. let me tell you to realize your favorite character who has brought you great comfort over these past four seasons is actually despised by a loud portion of the audience when he’s hardly even the most morally bankrupt character on a show where the point is no one is a good person is certainly an.. interesting experience. i’ve found fanfiction to be the only safe space in that regard really, and links to posts on tumblr in some of them and riffling through those are how i found your blog. if you have some recs i’d appreciate that! i’m much more of a lurker and don’t really blog myself anymore but i do enjoy browsing and seeing that the fandom isn’t completely devoid of reasonable people ❤️
exactly! i’m sorry again that like, your first experience going into the fandom is so horrific and yeah sadly tumblr is the only bastion that is somewhat reasonable, lol, at least compared to other platforms. all i can say is don’t worry because a few people relate, including me like, can’t really think of another hivemind hatred of a character that has happened this badly before to the point of making ppl genuinely adverse to the fandom [obviously i could be wrong i've not seen every fandom ever lol but] apart from maybe mulder from x files? but it’s the same shit really. it suddenly started cropping up, even though he was originally a fandom favourite. i could go into more detail but the point is, you’re not alone but i am sorry and there are some greglovers around!
oh yeah fanfic is a good safe haven for that kind of thing, and a few blogs. okay let me see now, i might miss some ppl out bc there are actually quite a few i know of that are sweet ppl who like/love greg and tomgreg, but i would also hope that ppl who see this post and love tomgreg/greg would please like it/reply so that anon can follow your stuff? would be great! okay.
@gemsofthegalaxy , @racheldowneyjrr , @gregwambsganss , @fantasticskystuff , @jana-ebb , @keinbutterdieb , @purplemotif , @watchfuldeer , @100dabbo , @rebvilla , @waystartoo , @succcesssion , @trwinsome , @dogmotifgreg , @jezter911 , @laysidel-dekie , @sirnortsalot , @duelsong , @lanrre , @tommywambs , @daydreamingleaf , @mushroomheadgirl , @gregkinz , @wambs , @twinge-of-cosmicangst , @swaystar .... andddd i think that's everybody i can think of, but as i said if anyone wants to sound off to announce themselves too please do so!
good luck to you anon and welcome <3

Do you know any Indian horror movies like a slasher film (or just in general) because I've personally never seen an Indian slasher movie? Or Indian musicals because I love musicals or just Indian films in general I would love some recommendations!!!<3
Hey! There aren't that many Indian slashers but two I remember are NH10 and Chup: Revenge of the Artist. For other horror, I recommend Bulbbul, Tumbbad, Aamis and Manichitrathazu (this one has been remade in other Indian languages so you can also check those out)
Indian musicals well. I will be really honest most of our movies technically fall under this category we just have to start dancing everywhere BUT to start off, I'll recommend some movies from the different industries:
Hindi: Om Shanti Om, 3 Idiots (mandatory viewing if you want to get into Indian cinema), Rang De Basanti, Qala, Sholay, Taare Zameen Par, Kal Ho Naa Ho and Fitoor
Telugu: Jersey, Magadheera, Sita Ramam, Shyam Singha Roy, Eega (don't question anything. Please don't) and Mahanati
Malayalam: Uyare, Premam, Bangalore Days, Minnal Murali, Athiran, Jallikkattu and Jana Gana Mana
Tamil: Iruvar, Ponniyin Selvan (both parts), Kaithi and its sequel Vikram, Jai Bhim, Super Deluxe, Gargi, Paava Kadhaigal and Soorarai Pottru
For Marathi I've only watched Sairat and The Disciple but I would recommend both and for Kannada there's always 777 Charlie (it's about a dog. What more could you want)
Like you can probably tell, there is a LOT meaning that there's a lot of other amazing stuff I had to leave out but I think this is a good starting point (our film output is number 1 in the world for a reason). Feel free to ask if you want more recs <3

B-I-N-G-O!
thank you @burntheedges - this has been so much fun and a great way to celebrate that man and this fandom that somehow exists because of him. now the glory is MINE. ALL MINE.
Tumblr media
I'm very likely going to finish the rest of the fic reading/reblogging things this week, so if anyone has any Oberyn, Ezra, Pero, Max L, Javi G, Whiskey or Marcus P fic recs, hit me up bbs.
bingo fics below the cut for any curious folk:
bingo!
Dave York fic - when we go crashing down by @janaispunk - Jana is my go to for Dave fics, I just love the way she writes him. and this was no different. I loved the snapshot style, and the ending ached so damn good.
Marcus Moreno fic - the dinner by @frannyzooey - these were recommended somewhere by someone (I can't remember where, or who!) and I've had the masterlist open in my browser for a few days. SO GLAD I DOVE IN. and I'm even happier to know there's so many drabbles for me to indulge in with this pairing too.
3 Asks - to @noxturnalpascal (fmk), @sp00kymulderr (pls give me an Ezra rec, ily), and @tightjeansjavi (an Aries ask).
Frankie Morales fic - chapter eight of do me yourself by @undercoverpena - I am such a lover of Jo's Frankie's, and do me yourself Frankie is the sweetest of sweetums. the texts have me giggling and blushing. I wait for Tuesday evenings every week just to read more of these two.
P Character you've never read before - the dinner by @frannyzooey - I have never ever read Marcus Moreno before! who woulda thunk.
extras:
Dieter Bravo fic - blossoms we wear by @gasolinerainbowpuddles - this has been on my tbr for a few days. I loved the first part and was thrilled to see a second. I love this throuple so much, and puddles writes horny shit in a way that tickles my brain just right
New P Character (Lucien) - blossoms we wear by @gasolinerainbowpuddles - no, this isn't a mistake, and it totally counts, it's a threesome fic!
Max Philips fic - whiskers & fangs by @songsformonkeys - this was rec'd in a discord server and I've had it waiting for a few days. the first part was so delightful, I can't wait to get stuck into the second part to see where this ends. Max Philips is literally a cat. incredible.
Javi P fic - pump by @morallyinept - I was lured in with the promise of balls, and it DELIVERED. I love Jett so much anyway, and her description of the gym here threw me into that sweaty stinky place staring straight at Javi's junk and fantasising right along side reader.

Hi Sarah! Would you mind sharing a book update? Have you read anything good lately? :) I’m actually rereading The Hunger Game series right now. Just finished the first book. Probably haven’t read it in a decade. I’d recommend a reread if you are a fan!
Hi! GWAH. My 2023 year of books hasn't been super great and I have also honestly significantly slowed down on my reading the last few months due to #projects and #otherthings that I #canttellyouaboutinfullyet. #annoying #imsorry #reallysorry
World Travel by Anthony Bourdain - I miss this man and his voice.
How To Fall Out Of Love Madly by Jana Casale - A funny / weird read.
Everything All At Once by Stephanie Catudal - Quite emotional.
Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson - This was an easy read. Great characters that are human and by human I mean delightfully flawed.
The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett - I'd consider this a novella? Very humourous concept. A charming quickie I'd rec for any royal watchers like myself.
Maame by Jessica George - Many intriguing things here. Not super exciting but fascinating / emotional family dynamics.
Stay True by Hua Hsu - If you liked the Catudal book above this is a similar vein in it's a memoir on grief/death/loss.
And I am nearing completion on three books that I've had on the go simultaneously (which is not usually like me - I am typically a 'read one, finish one' type of reader) because they took me so long to read I've had to put myself on my library's waiting list twice now but I've enjoyed all of the below - and the first one listed I think is likely my favourite read of 2023.
Tom Lake by Ann Patchett - I love anything she writes and this was no exception.
I Have Some Questions For You by Rebecca Makkai - I really enjoyed her other book The Great Believers and hoped this would be similar. It is not but it has still been a good read.
The Guest by Emma Cline - This is wild.

inspired by @the-blind-assassin-12 i joined her march fic madness 2024 challenge, with the goal to read and reblog 63 fics in 31 days.
i've read waaaayyyy more than that, but i'll keep going until march is over and add every new fic to this list later:) i'm also thinking about starting a weekly rec list of fics that i've read, i'll obviously still reblog them individually but i think it would be nice to have them in one place, since things can easily get lost on the dash.
in an attempt to keep this somewhat organized, i'll sort this list by character. i love every fic on here, but i do read some dark shit, so please pay attention to the tags/warnings and decide for yourself if something might not be for you <3

hi kasia! I know you’re very busy with the apartment remodeling (I hope that’s going well!! Or not awful at least) but I was wondering if you had any recommendations for places to visit in Poland? I’m visiting one of my friends in Krakow but I’ll have a few extra days to myself so I wanted to see if you had any recs :) thank you!
hi anon! i hope this isn't too late 🏃🏻‍♂️🙈 i apologise for not having had the time to respond earlier!!! unfortch i AM very busy these days ):
but ANYWAY. if it's just a few days, i'd recommend sticking to Kraków or taking a train ride to either the mountains (Zakopane, for example, which is super touristsy, but probably also the easiest to navigate as a foreigner) or Warsaw. keep in mind though (bc idk when you'll be here) that October 31 and November the 1st and then November the 11th are public holidays in Poland (the first two religious, and the latter is Independence Day, def avoid Warsaw around then) and the trains and roads will be super crowded.
i'm only going to stick to Kraków i apologise but i'm sure your friend is gonna help out a lot with recs as well! and Warsaw most certainly has a great web presence for touristsy spots, but if you need me to at list some bigger museums or etc. at least, let me know. LASTLY, i'm about to copy paste recs i gave to another mutual a few months back, so - Steph, if you're seeing this, i hope you don't mind! 🩷
first things first, jakdojade.pl (either the app version, or just www.jakdojade.pl opened via the browser app) is a super handy website that shows you how to get from point A to point B, which buses/tram lines to take, etc. there are some major road renovations taking place right now around the Most Dębnicki area (near the Wawel castle), so please keep that in mind! not sure about the tram lines around the Main Train Station as well. 🤔 i think there were plans to renovate the Lubicz line, but i don't remember when. :(
Kraków is great for sightseeing, because it's quite densely built, so you can see a lot of landmarks just by walking around on foot in the Old City area! the Old City is situated like 7 mins from the main train station. in the Main Square area, the Mariacki church with an altar of a famous polish artist Wit Stwosz is definitely worth seeing, as well as Sukiennice (the building right in the center of the Square) with its underground museum.
near the Main Square, there's a gallery of modern art called Bunkier Sztuki, address: Rynek Główny (Main Square) 20, 31-008 Kraków. i haven't been there in a few years so i'm actually not sure what the current exhibits in there are and if they're worth seeing, but hopefully they are!
there's Muzeum Książąt Czartoryskich on św. Jana street 19, 31-017 Kraków which used to host Da Vinci's The Lady with an Ermine, but i think it's currently on loan for some museum in Warsaw? it was actually transferred to the National Museum of/in Kraków earlier this year, but google is being confusing, so i'm not sure if it's currently there or in warsaw 🤔 the National Museum is another place you might potentially want to visit: Muzeum Narodowe w Krakowie, al. 3 Maja 1 street.
there's obviously the Wawel Castle, the historic residence of Polish kings, as Kraków used to be Poland's capital before Warsaw. i haven't been inside in years, but it's probably still worth it! and even if you don't wanna/decide to go inside, you might want to just stroll around the castle grounds. Wawel is right in the city centre as well, so it's another one of those Kraków's staples you can go to by foot!
around the Main Square, there are several "famous" streets with quirky cafes and shops you can visit. and even if you don't go inside, you can just stroll down those streets to get a feel of the city. for example the Floriańska street, Grodzka street, saint Jan or saint Tomasz streets, the Bracka street. no matter which one of these you decide to take from the Main Square, you'll be getting that Kraków experience :)
then there's the historic Jewish district of Kraków called Kazimierz. on one hand, packed with difficult history, on the other, it's become the most hip part of the city! again, loads of famous cafes, pubs, and shops are situated there, some festivals take place there, and so on. you can just stroll around the district, and then visit the Mocak gallery of contemporary art, for example! https://en.mocak.pl/ , address 4 Lipowa St 30-702 Kraków.
just like with Bunkier Sztuki, i haven't seen the current exhibits there, so idk if they're any good, but i personally like Mocak, and you might like it as well! it's at the edge of the Kazimierz district, and the Kazimierz district is right next to the Old City district. you can go from Old City to Kazimierz on foot or take a few quick tram stops.
https://duze-podroze.pl/krakow-kazimierz/
this site is in Polish, but you can take a look at the bolded names and pics - it's a handy guide re: what to look for when you're strolling around in Kazimierz. there are jewish cemeteries, synagogues, the Boże Ciało church, the Wolnica square with Muzeum Etnograficzne (etnographic museum) on it... (https://etnomuzeum.eu/ , the site has an english version that i can't link to directly for some reason). loads of places to see even if you want to just look at them from an outside, you know?
some other places potentially worth checking out: Jagiellonian University's botanical gardens, address Mikołaja Kopernika 27, 31-501 Kraków.
then there are three locations of the Museum of photography in Kraków BUT i'm gonna come clean and admit i still haven't visited any ajdjd 🏃🏻‍♂️ so idk if they're any good, and also they don't seem to have english versions of their websites? unless my phone is failing me. but street addresses are: Rakowicka 22A, Józefitów 16, Królowej Jadwigi 220.
tl;dr sticking to Kraków is a great idea for a short stay, because you can concentrate on only two districts (Old City/Main Square + Kazimierz), and there'll be PLENTY to see, and you can reach those places by foot or via short tram rides! if you're thinking about taking some trips in the Małopolskie voivodeship where Kraków is situated, there's the historic Wieliczka saltmine which is pretty famous: https://www.wieliczka-saltmine.com/ but you'd need winter clothes for that underground trip. you can reach Wieliczka by regular city buses, which is great.
then there's obviously Oświęcim known as Auschwitz-Birkenau, but that one would be heavy, and it'd take probably at least a half of your day: https://www.auschwitz.org/en/visiting/ as it's further from Kraków than Wieliczka.
please remember that the opening hours tend to be 9 am - 6 pm in most places, sometimes even shorter one day a week (sunday or monday or tuesday, typically), or some of them might be closed one day a week. so always remember to check them beforehand! it's also always worth checking if any place has any dedicated day where they offer a free pass or a discount too, you should find that info on their websites.
some places to eat in you might want to check out, although again, i'm sure your friend will be helping out with these as well: Zapiekanki in okrąglak (legendary, mandatory spot!), Nolio, Hamsa, Akita Ramen, Boccanera ristorante pizzeria, trattoria la campania, ima sushi, Sushi Royal, Viale Verde, Restaurant Martello, Sushi 77, Restauracja Bianka, Chinkalnia Restauracja Gruzinska, Hospudka u Nas
aaand that's all from me, sorry i didn't have the time for more! 🩷 HOPE U ENJOY YOUR STAY!!!!!!!!

Weekly Book Recs: 10/6-10/13
Tumblr media
Pride and Protest by Nikki Payne
Easily one of the best Pride and Prejudice retellings I've read, this takes our prickly leads and turns them into an activist versus a billionaire (who has a lot more going for him than "billionaire", believe). It's socially conscious, funny, and touching--and it captures the more melancholic aspects of P&P more than most reboots I've read. There's a real old school 90s-2000s romcom vibe to the fallout aspect of the book. Pick it up! #23for23
Tumblr media
Jana Goes Wild by Farah Heron
I blogged a bit about this one as I was reading it--and suffice to say, I was impressed. It's a risky premise--Jana and Anil have a two week fling during which she falls head over heels, finds out he's married, and, after blocking him on every platform possible, discovers she's knocked up... Cut to five years later, and they're co-parents of a daughter while seeing each other as little as possible. Until they end up a part of the same wedding party. At a destination wedding. In Tanzania. It's a big swing of a story, and with a charming hero (Anil and his daughter... my heart) and a heroine who's so hesitant to take a risk after being burned (but so drawn to her baby daddy) it really impressed me. I know this one is polarizing in romance circles; and if you're familiar with romance circles, you can guess why. Cardinal romance rules broken! The heroine isn't perfect and she's a woman of color so the standard has to be impossibly high! Whatever, man. This shit is good. #23for23
Tumblr media
Sinner by Sierra Simone
I read this a year ago and wasn't really feeling it, but gave it another shot when my mood shifted--and liked it a lot more this time around. I'd call this perhaps the most "approachable" Sierra Simone I've read so far--it's really a sex lessons/age gap/brother's best friend book, with the added bonus of the heroine being thisclose to becoming a nun. I won't lie--if you wanted to dip your toes into Sierra Simone's work, I think Priest is probably a more... accurate... representation of her standard fare (Sean Bell keeps going "I'm a bad man, my good brother Tyler over there on the other hand" and like. My guy. Sean. Tyler is OBSCENE.) but this one is quite good. And very, very hot. TW: Sean is a primary caretaker for his mother, who has terminal cancer. That is a big part of the book, and while I thought it was done beautifully, it is very sad.
Tumblr media
The Professional by Kresley Cole
Kresley Cole is one of those authors whose style was kind of made for mafia romance--over the top, super hot, and alpha to the nth degree. This is the first non-IAD book I've read by her, and though I was surprised by some differences (it's first person POV, single POV at that) it's a fucking romp, the way I expect a Kresley book to be. There's stalking-is-love, our hero kidnaps our heroine after watching her masturbate to the memory of him in the bathtub, there's a lot of good bit of kink. And it's a bodyguard romance, which I personally love. It's a little softer than some of the mafia romances I've read--but I am more than confident that the next book will be... different.
Tumblr media
A Rake's Vow by Stephanie Laurens
In theory, there isn't a lot that's super crazy about the plot of A Rake's Vow--it's basically a rake/resistant virgin book, with a light, fun mystery. But it's just so fun. The tone is perfect. Vane just wants this woman to marry him, because Fate demands it, damn it! And Patience is resistant for a reason I don't know that I've seen a lot, or at all in historicals--her father was a rake, and she doesn't want to end up like her heartbroken mother. (Also, she's raising her little brother and very Practical and doesn't want Vane to be a bad influence on him, and it's all very amusing.) This is a house party book without the party, full of a cast of quirky characters. At one point, he starts putting the moves on her in the conservatory and she's like "what are you doing" and he goes "you followed me into the CONSERVATORY". Like I said, it's so much fun. And Cynster men are conquerors--don't ever forget that.

Never Met a Duke Like You by Amalie Howard
A funny, sexy retelling of Clueless (which is a retelling of Emma, and it all works). Out 11/14, read my full review here.

🥤 ⇢ recommend an author or fanfic you love
Since she just gave me the sweetest shoutout I’m going to pay it back and rec dear @beskarandblasters ☺️
her cult leader!Ezra fic is SUBLIME 👀🥵😮‍💨
🧸 ⇢ what's the fastest way to become your mutual?
I’m so boring but chatting is the quickest way LOL I’m such a gemini moon and get so giggly getting to talk and connect with others!!
🏜️ ⇢ what's your favourite type of comment to receive on your work?
Oh what a good one to ask 🥺
Even if it’s just a single mention of a favorite line or a favorite moment in a fic completely makes my entire day, those are my favorite 🦋
Reminds me of my days in college workshop classes where on our evaluation sheets we had to put a favorite line from the works we read & seeing the different things that stuck with people is such a humbling experience 🤍

Blowing the sweetest air kiss your way honey! 🩷🫶💕
