With a grand opening on September 4th, Ballard's newest watering hole, Yonder Cider and Bale Breaker Brewing invite you to visit their joint taproom.

SEATTLE (August 24, 2021) – Yonder Cider and Bale Breaking Brewing Co are excited to announce the much-anticipated grand opening of its joint taproom in the heart of Seattle’s Ballard Distillery District, scheduled for Saturday, September 4! Located at 826 NW 49th Street, doors will open at noon at the expansive new location, bringing 32 taps of Washington-made beer and cider together under one roof.

“This taproom has been in the works for nearly a year and we are so excited to finally share what we’ve created with everyone,” said Caitlin Braam, founder of Yonder Cider. “Beyond great beverages, we believe we’ve created a space that is interactive, exciting and the perfect place to experience what Eastern Washington has to offer.”

“Sharing this taproom between our two brands means we are able to showcase nearly the entire breadth of beverages made in Washington state,” said Meghann Quinn, co-founder of Bale Breaker. “From beer and cider to hard seltzer and eventually wine, craft beverage enthusiasts will be able to experience and explore it all in one space!”

Showcasing the best of apples and hops grown in the state, the new taproom boasts more than 6,200 square feet of outdoor space and a spacious shared taproom. On-site rotating food trucks, firepits, a dedicated retail space, mural from local artist Jennifer Ament and more are all part of the property’s extensive six-month remodel. Offering an exceptional lineup of year round, seasonal and specialty releases from both brands, the two buildings on site will also house small-batch production for both Yonder and Bale Breaker. Future plans include outdoor movies, cider and beer education classes, joint releases and so much more.

This joint taproom is also the first of its kind. As of now, cideries and breweries alone cannot share a tasting room in Washington state. However, thanks to a new bill passed in June of 2020, distilleries can share their tasting rooms with wineries and breweries. To make the shared tasting room possible, the founders of Yonder and Bale Breaker started a distillery together called Wise Fool Spirits.  The distillery will act as R&D for spirits produced using products from the two brands. Yonder and Bale Breaker will also be releasing two collaborations as part of the grand opening: East Out West, a raspberry pink grapefruit kettle sour blended with Porter’s Perfection apples, and a hopped version of Yonder’s popular blackberry cider, Palisades.

Upon opening, hours for the Yonder and Bale Breaker Ballard taproom will be Tuesday – Thursday from 3-9pm, Friday and Saturday from 12-10, and Sunday from 12-9pm. The taproom will be closed on Mondays. This new taproom – which is both dog- and kid-friendly – is in addition to Bale Breaker’s Yakima taproom, as well as Yonder’s ‘Yonder Bar’ retail space in Seattle.

Let's talk about trilogies

I’m sure you know a song that tells an history, most of them do that, whether the artist inspire himself in a real one or they create their own, like in Kendrick Lamar´s DUCKWORTH (tells the story of his father and his label boss, years before he sign with the label) or Nirvana’s Polly that talks about a kidnap but from the point of the kidnapper.

But sometimes one song is not enough, sometimes the artist need more time and continue the story on more songs, that’s where trilogies appear, here are some that maybe you don’t know about:

The Mamasan Trilogy: The origin remounts to the beginning of pearl jam, Gossard, Ament and McCeady were looking for a singer, that’s when Eddie Vedder wrote the lyrics for three songs of a demo they (indirectly) handed to him known as “The Stone Gossard Demo '91”, later this songs where included in the discography of the band 2 of them in “Ten” and 1 as a B-side of the song Jeremy. Alive, Once and Footsteps are the songs of this trilogy

Beginning with the childhood of a person and how, after the death of the father, a weird relation with his mother starts, ending in a sexual abuse from the part of her.

Later in Once, we are told that this person, because of the traumas and the resentment, turns into a serial killer

Finally, Footsteps narrates the end of the road for the character, captured and with his execution close by, he told us how he feels.

The Killers Murder Trilogy: the tale of a relationship, the killers did this trilogy inspired by the murder of Jennifer Levin by her boyfriend, these three songs are split in two different albums, Hot fuss and Sawdust

This story starts with the breakup of the couple, and the boyfriend not being able to overcome it when he saw her with another man, trying to forget with some bourbon (leave the bourbon on the shelf)

The second track shows us a more sick person, obsessed with a relationship that already ended, repeating to himself that “they were just a good thing” he invite her to a “midnight show”, this ends with assassination of Jenny and a chorus saying “she said she loved me”

Now, we are in a interrogatory, the police has the boyfriend as a suspect, put he keeps saying that “jenny was a friend of mine” and  “there’s no motive for this crime”, telling the police that he knows his rights, but the cop don’t eat it and whispers to the killer ears “ I know what you’re doing here”.

Some people think that this continues in “all the things that I’ve done”, saying that the killer in this song is searching for redemption.

The Mayor Tom Trilogy: The character created by David bowie at the beginning of his career also has a trilogy, but in my opinion, two

One presented by Bowie in Space Oddity where the major ends lost in the space, the in ashes to ashes, he reveal to us that major was, in fact, just a “junkie” “hitting an all-time low”, years later he ends this in “hallo spaceboy” ft Pet Shop Boys,  but is not clear what happens, In my opinion this one talks about major tom’s death

And the second, that starts also with major tom lost in space in Space Oddity, but continues in Rocket Man by Elton John, where we see the thoughts of major tom in space, who thinks that “it’s gonna be a long, long time”, finally 20 years later Peter schilling ends this story with “Mayor tom – coming home” where we see how ground control finally reaches to the ship and gets to bring back mayor tom, but he hesitates and says “give my wife my love”, decide to stay in space he told us that “this is my home, I’m coming home”

Thử thách một phòng - The Reveal !!!

Chà, tôi cho rằng so với một vài nhà thiết kế đồng nghiệp của tôi, tiết lộ của tôi không lớn lắm - chúng tôi đã cho bạn thấy một chút phía sau hậu trường (có lẽ lần sau tôi cần phải trêu chọc hơn?), Nhưng hãy để tôi nói với bạn điều này: một chút phong cách đi một chặng đường dài trong việc biến đổi và hoàn thiện một không gian.

Những thách thức: tạo ra một không gian thân thiện với gia đình (anh ấy có một cô con gái 7 tuổi), ấm áp, và tất nhiên - đã nói lên cả sở thích của chúng tôi. Oh, và một ngân sách. Duh. Những chiếc ghế này là một trong những bổ sung đầu tiên cho căn phòng, và thực sự tạo ra giai điệu cho tôi. Chúng cũng là mục ngân sách lớn nhất và hoàn toàn xứng đáng.

Bạn sẽ nhớ rằng cảm hứng của tôi về không gian là thứ mà tôi gọi là 'Toàn cầu đánh bóng'. Sự hợp nhất của các đồ tạo tác từ chuyến du lịch của chúng tôi, bàn phòng ăn đã có sẵn của J và nhu cầu của tôi về một số khoảnh khắc tinh tế hơn ... như bảng điều khiển này. Một trong những 'phàn nàn' lớn nhất của tôi về việc chuyển đến ngôi nhà mới là thiếu không gian trưng bày - và cuối cùng chúng tôi cũng có một số! Ban đầu chúng tôi nghĩ rằng chúng tôi sẽ sử dụng bàn điều khiển để lưu trữ khăn trải bàn, nhưng chúng tôi không thể tìm thấy cái mà chúng tôi thích, vì vậy tôi đã bóp cò trên mảnh đá cẩm thạch này và bây giờ nó sẽ phục vụ mục đích duy nhất là cất giữ những báu vật yêu thích hiện tại.

Tôi đã ngạc nhiên khi thấy bức tường nghệ thuật dễ dàng kết hợp giữa cả hai bộ sưu tập của chúng tôi. Mặt nạ là sở thích của tôi !! Tôi yêu kích thước. Và tất nhiên là mảnh Jennifer Ament của tôi.

Sáng nay J hỏi liệu tất cả những thứ này có ở lại không. Tôi nghĩ rằng cái nhìn bối rối trên khuôn mặt của tôi đã nói lên tất cả. Tôi đã từng có một ngôi nhà rất kiểu cách - anh ấy thì không. Chúng tôi đang làm việc trên nó!

Chiếc cốc nhỏ với những vòng xoáy màu xanh là một mảnh chúng tôi nhặt được trong chuyến đi đến đảo Orcas vào mùa thu năm ngoái cho sinh nhật của tôi. Nó khiến tôi hạnh phúc vô tận khi có thể bắt đầu hiển thị một vài trong số rất ít những thứ chúng tôi đã mua cùng nhau.

Và vâng, trong trường hợp bạn băn khoăn, tôi sẽ tiếp tục cho bạn thấy phần còn lại của các bản cập nhật xung quanh nhà - thử thách hoặc không thử thách! Cái gì tiếp theo? Tại sao phòng khách đáng yêu đó tất nhiên là bạn đang nhìn trộm một chút. Bắt đầu với một công việc sơn và một chiếc ghế sofa mới ... sau đó đến nhà bếp ... (thiết kế không bao giờ kết thúc!)

Pumpkin Decorating at Common Room Studio!

Yay October! We have a bunch of fun workshops coming up at my studio space, Common Room Studio, that I wanted to let you know about! If you’re in the DC area, we’d absolutely love for you to join us. We’ll be decorating some pumpkins, of course, and we’re also hosting a DIY upholstery workshop, a manifestation workshop to help you achieve your dreams, and a brush lettering workshop! Come hang out with us – and learn a new skill while you’re at it. It’ll be so fun!

First up, pumpkin decorating! I’m so excited to offer not one but TWO pumpkin decorating opportunities at Common Room Studio this year – one weekend workshop and one weeknight workshop. Come to whichever workshop works for your schedule, or come to both for maximum pumpkin fun!

I’m offering a pumpkin decorating workshop on October 13 focused on making these fun Matisse-inspired pumpkins that I shared as a DIY tutorial last year, and Samantha from Painted Palettes is offering a DIY hand lettered pumpkin workshop on October 16! We’ll supply all the necessary materials and a variety of pumpkin sizes for you to decorate. Light sips and snacks will be served, and you’ll head home with beautiful seasonal décor.
