half of my classes are cancelled this week so i thought i would get started on my readings in order to not cry at the end of the week. my academic writing course is taking a lot of energy out of me but i’m hoping it’ll be a decently easy 7. i have a korean vocabulary quiz this week which i need to study for and i have to give some feedback on some poems, but other than that uni-wise it will be a quiet week. i have work on tuesday and friday and i’m meeting my friend for the korean film festival on wednesday but it should be a fun week. i’m excited!

Official Post: Writing Comeback!

I was going to post this on Twitter but realized that it became way too much text to fit in a comfortable format there. Also, since this is the revitalization of my writing and Tumblr page, I thought I might as well fuse both of them together!

This will be a semi-long but official post regarding all my writing plans. For those of you who just want the TL;DR: I haven’t abandoned any of my Ao3 stories, in fact I’ve already planned for sequels for both AHPHand DL. I’m also working on minor revisions with TET and finally writing the sequel, The Essence Prince, which I plan on posting exclusively here on Tumblr! Tumblr will also be my all-in-one hub for all my writing and art and blogging!

Firstly, about Ao3!

None of my stories on Ao3 are abandoned! I have full intention of continuing and finishing all my stories. In fact, for I have a second season planned for AHPH and a sequel to DLas well! I know it's very ambitious considering how my tempo of writing has been the last two years, but my circumstances have changed drastically since then. Not to get too personal, but I’ve wasted so much precious time and effort on people who didn’t deserve it. Although it’s regrettable, I have learned incredibly much from this experience and I feel more focused and happy than ever before!

Regarding AHPH, I feel no need to stress the actual plot and story that I have developed for it, as I want it to be a pleasant, fun and comfortable read. I don’t wanna say anything about it, not even a tease as it might disturb the reader experience and the overall narrative I’m pursuing. But there is a bigger picture to the entire story and world, which will unravel slowly but surely toward Season Two. As such, you can expect AHPH to be a very long ride!

As for DL, I have hit somewhat of a creative block in terms of the story’s pacing. However, it is not meant for a long run, and I really want to focus on finishing it as soon as possible. You can expect more familiar faces to appear in the sequel, such as Namjoon as a Sherlock-esque mastermind/private detective and Hoseok as either a chief prosecutor/lawyer or criminal psychologist. The story will be about the case that Reader cracked during her time at the police academy and made her famous among her peers!

Secondly, we’ve got my refreshed and now active Tumblr!

All my writing, whether they’re meant for Wattpad, Ao3 or original fiction, will be posted on Tumblr first! So, if you wanna get a faster look at any of them or you want the convenience of one single place where you can read everything that I write or make, you can find everything here. I wanna use Tumblr as my one-in-all hub for all my creative endeavors, making easier for both me and readers to find all keep track of all my updates and stories! And, speaking of all my creative endeavors...

Thirdly, I have not yet abandoned my dream of making webtoons! I can’t say for sure when this dream can be realized, but I’ve got two stories in the making: The Emperor’s Bride and The Dragon’s Wish. Both are based in Korean culture, mythology and history. The Emperor’s Bride is set in a pseudo-alternative Korea where the almighty tyrant and mysteriously masked Emperor seeks his first bride in a trial of one hundred women, of which one is the main character – however, she’s only joined the competition to exact her vengeance on the Emperor. The Dragon’s Wish is based in contemporary Seoul where a failing acting student is struck by a falling star and finds her destiny intertwined with a dragon – or two. Some ideas for characters for The Dragon’s Wish are already posted on Twitter!

In general, I wanna do art and draw, so outside my webtoon endeavors, you can look forward to more than just writing from me in the future!

Fourthly, I have decided to finally get back to working on The Essence Series. It’s been a complicated project to return to out of personal reasons, and I’ve also developed vastly in terms of writing since I wrote The Essence Thief. As such, I’ve been going back and forth on revisioning The Essence Thief once more, or even rewrite it completely. This has caused me mentally to keep putting the sequel on hold, which I now realize has been a horrible idea. So now instead, I have decided to simply correct any minor errors that still remain in The Essence Thief and move on to The Essence Prince! And yes, name drop for the official title of the sequel! A new face will be introduced, as the last missing piece of the OT7, and the threat of King Kwang-Jin will be dealt with as secrets crawl back to surface! I will be posting the raw firsts draft/manuscript here on Tumblr as I write them! Feedback of all kind is what I will be needing, but also the pressure and expectations from readers in order to get me to write! The final result of The Essence Prince will be a published book and sequel to The Essence Thief, so I hope you’ll be looking forward to that!

Lastly, I will be using Tumblr as a blog as well. I want to post travel and college stuff and other things unrelated to my writing and art. In regard to my previous series on my WordPress, “Writing Wednesdays”, is something that I am also considering, but let me know what you think!

South Korea and the Prominent Rise of House Music

There’s an alternative to familiarising yourself with Korean music if K-Pop is not your thing, as Korean House music movement is becoming a thing with artists such as Peggy Gou, Yaeji, and Park Hye-Jin leading the movement.

South Korean artists have become a global phenomenon with the emergence of K-Pop as a part of the Hallyu Wave from the early 2010s, and its movement for the past decade has been mindblowing, with the amount of fans of the genre itself has reached hundreds of millions around the globe. K-Pop artists such as Blackpink, Twice, BTS, and EXO have been breaking YouTube and streaming records, blowing up awards and charts around the world, and sold out every stadium and arena around countries such as USA, England, France, Japan, Australia, and more.

However, if K-Pop is not your cup of tea, there’s another rising movement from the same country that might suit you, which is Korean House. Generally known in countries such as France, Netherlands, and the USA, South Korea might not be the country you’d think of when talking about house music. But in recent years, Korean house music was starting to have an immense growth, with artists such as Peggy Gou, Yaeji, and Park Hye-Jin, representing their Korean origins, leading the genre’s prominent rise around the globe. The trio has started to bring interest from listeners of the House genre, playing their sets at nightclubs and even music festivals around the world, and also showcasing their mix. The three of them were included in the popular electronic music oriented YouTube channel Boiler Room.

Peggy Gou, the 28-year old DJ, singer and producer who is currently based in Berlin, Germany, has experienced such a meteoric rise for the last couple of years, playing at major music festivals almost everyday in European cities such as Milan, Ibiza, London, Barcelona, and her hometown Berlin. Initially popular at the underground scene of house music with the release of her 4 EPs back in 2016, most notably the EP “Art of War”, Peggy Gou plays rather in an old school way, relying on different vinyls and CDs, unlike other DJs who rely on digital music to play on their DJ sets. 2019 is notably Peggy Gou’s breakthrough year, with the release of her own label, Gudu Records, her own fashion line Kirin, and also the release of her DJ-Kicks showcase, which is an acclaimed mix series hosting among the best DJs and producers such as Four Tet and Nina Kraviz.

Similar to Peggy Gou, Brooklyn-based producer, singer, rapper, and DJ Kathy Yaeji Lee, better known as Yaeji, also experienced a prominent rise for the last couple of years. Starting her interest in DJing while studying at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and later learning how to use Ableton and other musical instruments, the 26-year old played at numerous sets around New York while also releasing her debut EP “New York 93” in 2016, her second EP “EP2” in 2018, consisting of tracks such as “raingurl”, “drink i’m sippin on”, and her own remix of one of the rapper Drake’s popular singles “passionfruit”, with few remixes throughout the year. Right now, Yaeji plays her sets throughout America, Europe, and Asia, including this year’s edition of We The Fest in Jakarta and also Lollapalooza in Chicago.

A rather underrated artist among the three, currently London-based producer, singer, and also rapper, Park Hye-Jin (박혜진), is just barely starting her career in the music scene. Her acclaimed debut EP “IF U WANT IT”, which was released at the end of last year, created buzz surrounding her in early 2019. She also had a collaboration in a track with New York-based DJ and producer Baltra in his single, “Ahead of Time”, which was released this July. Coming through Seoul’s underground acts, Park Hye-Jin clearly has shown promise onto the scene of house music, and bigger things are waiting for the former resident DJ at Seoul’s Pistil Dance Club, as she’s starting to play sets throughout Europe and Asia.

As all three of them are gaining their own popularity in the house music scene, great things are expected for South Korea as the country’s scene of house and techno music clearly shows promise for more South Korean DJs and producers to thrive like these three artists who have achieved their success.

So I Heard We’re Probably Going into the Last Season of the Gao Generation.

And then I made a couple of lists of my unrealistic wants/hopes for the season and my realistic expectations. (I know there is going to be a tournament but honestly, that arc will be like 17 episodes max unless they have more than one episode between battles, 8 episodes minimum unless they do two battles per episode then 4 minimum. That is not a Buddyfight length season. But also I wrote these before finding that out.)

Unrealistic wants/hopes:

Sofia to have a redemption arc that includes her finding Terumi and giving her her memories back complete with an apology as well as her apologizing to Shido or at least them having some closing interaction, and Sofia’s history with Kyoya(the 5 ws and h of their relationship explained please.)

or Sofia to just return and have a completed story arc. Redemption or not.

Terumi to come back and get her memories back in some way because she deserves to be happy with the memories of her life

plot twist: Asmodai has secretly been providing shelter, food, etc to her just did not let Tets in on it so he did not have to deal with him constantly being sad that she had no memories

Rouga and Kiri to be besties like actually, officially besties, like someone to flat out state that they are pretty good/close friends

Dự án phim Trạng Tí lấy cảm hứng từ bộ truyện tranh nổi tiếng Thần đồng đất Việt của tác giả Lê Linh. Ban đầu, bộ phim này được ấn định ra rạp vào mùa hè 2020, nhưng ảnh hưởng của dịch Covid 19 đã khiến Studio68 phải thông báo dời lịch công chiếu. Trạng Tí là dự án phim có kinh phí lớn nhất từ trước đến nay của Studio68, do Ngô Thanh Vân sản xuất.

Phim được ghi hình ở nhiều tỉnh thành trong cả nước nhằm giới thiệu hình ảnh và những nét văn hoá dân gian Việt Nam đến với đông đảo công chúng.

Bộ phim phù hợp với lứa tuổi thanh thiếu niên, nhưng nếu muốn ôn lại tuổi thơ, bạn và gia đình cũng hoàn toàn có thể thưởng thực bộ phim này tử 12/02/2021.

Oh, it was unofficial, alright. Professors talk, a few probably shared notes on me. Or bets.

Not a damn thing to my name, but I’d play the long game all the same. Hated the thought of playing rear guard, but the way they were fucking up things up north, it looked like we would have to save what could be saved.

There was no agreement, just an understanding. Academics and think tank types sharing open source information. There were a few vets and former insiders to call on too. The gist of it was that we would buy time for cooler heads to prevail, or, better or worse, depending on how you saw it, for the next generation of voters to come up, look at things differently.

That was my take, anyway, and you could ask why not us. Why could we not act? In this way, we were, given our positions. Most of us were in graduate school, or out of the mainstream. There were some you could call popular, but it depended on where you threw your weight, and the notion of counting on numbers was repugnant. You won on the merits, not the show.

It was slow, painful stuff. You had to get to know a society, not just its political institutions, to achieve some understanding or informed perception. The campuses here weren’t big enough for the foreign service officers to frequent, so I couldn’t meet with anyone from the overseas desks.

Jin was a veteran, and a citizen of the ROC. It gave him a relatively rare perspective, whether military or civilian. I told him how I trained for OCS Quantico and we became good friends. Floated the idea of re-establishing SEATO, something I had given some serious thought.

“The idea is to reintroduce it gradually,” Jin said, almost immediately. “Start with something like an emergency battle-group, like a…”

I nodded slowly, “Like a QRF.” His eyes blinked with recognition, “Exactly. Have a naval battlegroup or QRF, maybe an MEU, with other ASEAN countries’ militaries involved. Can respond to natural disasters quickly. Then, expand patrols to contested areas, establish a military code of conduct among the ASEAN nations. Then negotiate a mutual defense pact – and we’ve got SEATO again. Just need to slowly build it back up, get people used to it.”

It was as assuring as it was distressing. “I don’t like that it’s necessary. Containment was always a stop-gap, a Band-Aid. Look at Tet. That was a tactical military victory for us, we beat back regular North Vietnamese forces – but the public lost trust in our government. We’re trying to stay at peace with the PRC, but we have to keep our government honest.”

Jin laughed, but it was not the sarcastic one people were used to. “Good luck with that, man. The way the PRC is modernizing its military, I’d be surprised if we have another decade of peace.”

“I know. But we have to try.”
