Wake up with your dream life: affirm & relax challenge
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・。.。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
This is a challenge suggestion created by @leilth that I expanded upon ❤️
This challenge is going to help: calm your anxiety & stress, remove negativity, help reprogram your mind for manifesting your dream life, shifting, or entering the void.
Most beneficial for people with: overthinking tendencies, overactive minds, stress & anxiety, difficult circumstances
Why affirm & relax?
Most people have heard about affirm & persist, which has a lot of baggage attached, and may be seen as “robotic” or a chore. We’re switching that mindset up now.
We’re affirming because thinking positive thoughts makes us feel good. We’re thinking all the time anyway, we might as well be thinking thoughts that make us happy.
We’re relaxing because we know our dream life is on the way and we don’t have to do anything to deserve/earn/achieve it.
We’re not forcing ourselves or doing techniques to “get anything”. Like doing a yoga class or getting a massage - we’re doing it because it’s relaxing & makes us feel good.
We already know our desires belong to us, the techniques are just calming the doubtful human mind to make the transition easier.
We are relaxing and not obsessing about a deadline or time crunch because we know time is an illusion and our success is inevitable.
Challenge steps!
1) Decide your focus/intention. Do you want to wake up with all your desires? Master the void? Shift to your DR? Decide now and make your script or desires list, if you haven’t already. Got it? Alright, it’s yours! All you have to do now is sit back and relax and wait for your reality to conform.
In the meantime, here’s what you can do to relax and embody your desired state until it materializes:
2) Pick a sub playlist or make your own. I have curated a couple playlists with trusted subs you might want to try:
If you have a lot of negativity and unfortunate circumstances in your life, this playlist is for releasing negativity, curses & toxic people and manifesting a better life.
I collected a bunch of subs for this challenge that include topics like waking up with your desires, manifesting overnight, shifting, self-concept, blockage removals, boosters and more. The first sub in the playlist is one that can be looped overnight to wake up with your desires.
Subs for the void state
Pick the ones most relevant to you and make your own playlist to use daily.
3) Listen to your playlist 30-60 minutes a day. Try listening once in the morning and once at night, but any time works. You can also loop your playlist in the background throughout the day or night and listen while doing other things.
For about 10 minutes of your listening time, try to relax and breathe deeply while sitting in the psych-k position.
4) Listen to an aff tape for 10 minutes while doing psych-k or another calming exercise. Instead of psych-k, you could also try SRT, tapping, breathwork, lying under a weighted blanket, or any other calming exercise. If you do it with psych-k then do it 5 minutes each sides.
My aff tapes:
comfort & relaxation
self-concept & void concept
master shifter & master manifestor
I’m living my dream life
5) EFT tapping for your desires twice a day. You can follow the basic script I provided here, but try to use your own words with whatever specific emotions you find coming up for you in the moment. Try to tap for around 10-15 minutes. In the morning just after you wake up & before you go to bed are the most powerful times.
You can also do quick mini tapping sessions throughout the day. It’s fine to just tap only on one point while repeating your affs for a positive tune-up.
6) Each hour say your affirmation 30 times. Set a repeating reminder on your phone with one blanket aff such as “I have all my desires” or “I woke up with my dream life” or “I’m in my desired reality” or “I have mastered the void” and repeat 30x when it goes off. It’s ok to repeat it in your head if you can’t say it out loud.
The specific number of 30 affs is based off Cleo’s 12hr movement challenge which was very successful for many people who tried it. Feel free to repeat more or less based on your preference.
7) As you are drifting off to sleep: imagine, affirm, or intend to wake up with your desires. You might picture a brief scene opening your eyes to your desires in the morning (if you’re good at visualization). You could repeat the same aff you have been repeating throughout the day, or pick a short phrase that would make you feel successful like “I did it!” to loop until you fall asleep.
8) Repeat daily until you wake up with your desires!
NOTE: You may or may not see 3D acting up but again it's a good sign that what you are doing is working. You can tend to the 3D but don’t react to it. That’s just the old story trying to pull you back. Treat those old thoughts and circumstances like unruly children, firmly tell them “no!” And don’t let them get away with anything!! You are the boss now!
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・。.。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
Daily Activities Summary:
1) Listen to your sub playlist for 30-60 minutes. It’s fine to listen while doing other things. Try to sit in the psych-k position while listening for at least 10 minutes.
2) Listen to an aff tape while doing psych-k (or other calming activity) for 10 minutes. Just breathe deep and relax while listening.
3) EFT tapping for 10-15 minutes, once in the morning & once in the evening, more if you want!
4) Affirm with your main aff 30 times each hour you’re awake.
5) Affirm or imagine waking up with your desires as you drift off to sleep.
6) No identifying with 3D circumstances, tell negative thoughts “No!” and counteract them with your affs.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・。.。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
Why do we do each method?
Psych-k: we do psych-k sessions while listening to subliminals or aff tapes because it helps calm our nervous systems and connect both sides of our brains, releasing stuck stress and speeding up the process of learning the affirmations.
Tapping: we do tapping because it helps us to remove all blocked energy & emotions holding us back, replacing it with beliefs that say we already have our desires. It helps us shift our state to feel like we already have what we want and makes it easier to accept our new affs.
Repeating affirmations: we are repeating affirmations each hour so we saturate our mind as much as possible and remind ourselves of the new story. We’re doing this to calm the impatient overactive human brain that wants to keep telling the old story.
SATS/lullaby: Imagining your desires fulfilled or repeating affirmations as you go to sleep are some of the OG methods of loa manifesting. Whatever you think of right before you fall asleep is going to powerfully affect your subconscious mind.
How long is this gonna take??
Everything depends on how much resistance you have and your personal mindset and journey. We’re not making deadlines or limits because time is an illusion right?
But on average, both EFT and Psych-k have been proven to permanently change beliefs in about 7 sessions. So one week should be more than enough. Since we’re also doing tapping and affirming and listening to subs, it’s gonna work from all angles, speeding up the process even if you have doubts, fears, or limiting beliefs.
Now stop scrolling and go affirm and relax!! You’re gonna be living your dream life in no time at all! 💕

FUZZY BRAIN
Tumblr media
an: im distracting myself but i haven't stopped thinking about this idea. so thought i would give it a spin. super super loosely based on my interpretation of fuzzybrain by dayglow!
pairings: timeskip!kuroo x fem!reader
warnings: slight angst, stress mentions, eating and drinking mentions, kuroo needs a nap :/
-
"how's your day going?"
"no, i don't need a receipt."
a very confused barista stares back at kuroo, who blinks back at her.
"wait, sorry," he grimaces and shakes his head. "my day is alright, how is yours?"
she responds, but he isn't really paying attention. lately, he hasn't been able to focus on much of anything. he grabs his coffee and heads back to the office, forgetting the embarrassing conversation before sitting down.
spring had finally arrived in japan, bringing an onslaught of responsibilities along with it. like the blossoms floating in the wind, different tasks and deadlines seemed to float their way onto kuroo's plate. his planner is full, daily agendas scribbled into whatever room remains. nothing seems to slow down. each item he crosses off is replaced with a new one in a matter of minutes.
he's scatterbrained.
"remember, we have that marketing meeting at five kuroo-san," one of his colleagues pats him on the back while sneaking behind his desk.
"oh, that's right," kuroo mumbles, flipping through the pages of his planner, finally reaching today's date. staring back at him, among the six other important things due today, is the meeting. highlighted, circled, and underlined. "see ya then."
he leans back and groans.
at this point, the due dates and deadlines aren't bothering him. he's almost numb, but comfortably so. he's found comfort in the hustle of it all, avoiding having nothing to do. his mind craves being busy.
his body disagrees.
kuroo's aching fingers rub at his eyes, preparing himself to stare at his computer monitor for the next few hours. dark circles have formed underneath his eyes, unmoving. his head throbs, but when is it not lately?
"kuroo-san, ushijima wakatoshi's manager called just now and wants to speak with you," one of the department's secretaries taps her palm on his desk, causing the mound of papers to slide slightly. his typing continues, and kuroo doesn't even notice.
"kuroo-san?"
his head shoots up. "sorry, did you say something?"
she gives him a sad smile.
"no, it's nothing. i'll tell them to call back."
as she clicks back to her desk, kuroo's brows furrow, before he cringes. just like this morning.
he's not sure how he got to this point. kuroo's always prided himself on his quick wit and problem-solving skills, as well as his hard work. he wouldn't have been able to imagine himself like this. overworked, exhausted, brain full of fuzz, and eyes bloodshot.
he doesn't recognize himself sometimes.
the day trudges on, the phone ringing constantly along with a steady flow of messages in his inbox. he crosses things off on his list, finally reaching the end. he smiles, with relief or pride he isn't quite sure. soon enough, it's time for his meeting, which means it's almost time to go home.
-
kuroo stumbles out of the door of his building, quickly brought to reality by the honk of a taxi and the shuffle of other commuters. he sighs, beginning the walk home.
it's times like these when he's thankful to live so close to work. all he wants is to get home, shower, and sleep. he smiles again, so close to being in the comfort of his own space, when his stomach growls.
then he frowns.
kuroo groans for what must be the tenth time today when he realizes that despite all of his meticulous planning and record keeping, he's forgotten to get groceries this week. at this point, he's past all of his regular takeout places. closing his eyes with sigh, he crosses the street to enter the small neighborhood market.
his fingers rub against his tight neck, sliding around to loosen his tie before grabbing a basket. he wracks his brain, attempting to come up with any dinner ideas for the evening. nearly walking into the door, kuroo tries to remember what's in his fridge at the moment.
"welcome in!"
"you too," he half waves at the cashier, their own waving hand slowly falling in confusion. kuroo remembers the chicken in his fridge, and finally begins to form a menu. he grabs a few veggies, an extra bag of rice, and heads into the last isle. his hand grabs a bottle of oil, and he stops.
his brows pinch together, staring down the bottle in his hand. why did i grab this?
he shakes his head. his mind races, trying to remember any sort of thoughts he had before grabbing this. he blinks, running recipes through his mind before letting out an irritating huff.
"what is this even for?"
"frying things, usually,"
"what?"
you blink up at him, grabbing ingredients of your own for your basket. his eyes widen.
"oh my god, i'm so sorry. i don't-" he cuts himself off. "i'm so tired."
confused at his sudden raw honesty with a stranger, he scratches the back of his head.
"don't worry about it," you reach for a bottle of your own. "i've been there."
his fingers tap the side of his basket.
"how did you cope?"
you smile at him.
"it's okay to take a break. i mean i don't know what you do for work," you gesture towards his tie. he looks down at it and chuckles. "but everyone deserves to rest."
he nods. he could cry, honestly. this is the first real, non-work-related conversation he's had in weeks.
"making something good?"
he laughs. "i can't remember."
your wrist spins your basket at your side. you do feel for this stranger. the second you walked into the aisle, you noticed how tired he looked. the vacant stare and slow blinks said it all.
"you need to eat."
he snorts. "i don't think i have the energy to cook anything. i'm trying to talk myself out of swapping all of this for a frozen pizza,"
you smile, holding up your basket, displaying just that.
"nothing wrong with that!"
every second kuroo spends talking to you in this too-crowded aisle is melting the stress from his shoulders. he's tired, so tired but he doesn't want this to end.
"i want to see you," he slides the basket further up his arm, patting his pockets with his palms. "again i mean. i want to see you again. can i?"
you look up at the handsome stranger again, smiling when you notice a grin of his own.
"s-sure. need a pen?"
"if you've got one. i don't think i'd be able to remember a phone number tonight."
you dig in your purse for a pen, flipping an old receipt over to scribble your name and number down for him. after you hand it to him, he repeats your name.
"i'm kuroo, kuroo tetsuro. sorry for not introducing myself earlier," he mumbles, suddenly feeling a little shy. his vulnerability catching up to him at last.
"well kuroo, i hope you remember to call." you place the frozen pizza in his basket and walk towards the check stands. "cause i would love to see you."
kuroo smiles wide, the words he was going to say dying on the tip of his tongue.
while he enjoys his frozen pizza that night, still in his work clothes on the couch, he calls you.
he decides before the sun even sets that he's calling out tomorrow. he's going to sleep in, as long as his body allows. and he's going to see you. but this time he will give you his full attention.
kuroo's not a believer in fate, but you just might make him one.

Fever Dream
Pairing: Matt Murdock x GN Reader
Word Count: 3,100
Summary: You feel like utter death. Good thing you have a boyfriend whose mother-hen tendencies mean he’s the best at taking care of you.
Trigger warnings: None. Just my self-indulgent imagination of Matt taking care of me while I’m sick.
Masterlist
Tumblr media
The sneeze you let out at seven in the morning is almost embarrassingly loud.
It wracks your entire body, the force of it causing you to jerk in your bed, and you barely have time to cover your nose with a tissue. Cringing, you blow your nose before tossing the tissue into the trashcan you’ve moved next to your bed, no longer having the energy to get up and walk each individual one over.
The feeling of sick came on so unexpectedly and savagely that you didn’t have time to make a grocery trip to grab any medicine, and you were currently stuck using almost-expired Benadryl for the congestion and a nearly empty bottle of ibuprofen for your headache and sore throat.
Seriously, you were mostly fine last night. Maybe a little stuffy, but nothing close to this.
With a loud groan, you call your boss on her cell phone to let her know that you won’t be in today, and the raspy tone in your voice paired with the sound of a stuffy nose was enough for her to tell you to take the rest of the week off.
“No, really, please don’t come in,” she tells you, and you can practically feel the way she’s shuddering on the other side of the line. You’ve worked with her long enough to know she’s a major germaphobe, and she’d rather miss a soft deadline by a day or two than have you anywhere near her. You’re not above using that to your advantage, and have done so in the past, especially in instances when you need an excuse to stay with Matt when he’s recovering from a night that’s rougher than usual.
“I am willing to bribe you to make sure you stay home. I will send you all the soup you need if you just stay away.”
“You got it boss lady,” you somehow manage to croak out, cringing at both the pain and the way you sound. “I’ll see you Monday.” With a sigh, you hang up with her, grateful for a large balance of PTO, and fully planning on taking her up on the soup once you have an appetite. She’ll splurge on good stuff, too.
Matt is next. Instead of calling him, you send him a quick text, knowing he’s likely already at the courthouse for the morning, and you’re unwilling to interrupt him at work. He’s less likely to check a message than take a phone call, for obvious reasons, so it's easier to escape the laser focus of his concern for just a few extra hours. Typing out the message, you let him know you’re not feeling well and unable to meet him for lunch, as you usually do on Wednesdays. Knowing him, he’ll call you the second he’s on recess, and will likely end up swinging by this evening anyway.
With a loud exhale that causes your throat to burn and offers an abrupt coughing fit, you lay back down against the pillows, and pass out.
---------
You wake up to the sound of someone pounding on your door, and it startles you enough that you nearly roll out of bed.
It takes you a few moments to get your bearings, grimacing at the way your body feels worse than when you’d fallen asleep, and you mentally curse the person interrupting your rest. It’s probably your obnoxious landlord who finds random excuses to check-in on you, much to your annoyance and Matt’s suspicion, but the man is harmless, guilty of nothing other than using far too much cologne to cover up the stale smell of body odor and of cigarettes.
You’d roll your eyes if the idea of the simple motion didn’t sound so painful.
If you weren’t already certain about having been knocked on your ass by the flu, specifically, there’s no doubt in your mind now. A throbbing headache. A throat that feels like it was being torn apart with glass. Congestion. It was all there, and all you want to do is pass out until you feel better.
The pounding on the door continues, combined with an extremely muffled voice, and deciding your body is too sore and too sick to get up, you roll back over in bed, burying your face under a pillow to drown out the noise. Another coughing fit hits you unexpectedly, and your body spasms with the force of your lungs revolting against you. When you’re done, you vaguely pick up on the silence when the pounding abruptly stops, and you sigh, grateful for the quiet once more.
Neil has given up, it seems, but you’re still bitter that your sleep has been interrupted, and the idea of sending the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen to rattle his fire escape at 1am has never felt so appealing.
You’re just about to drift off into sleep again when, not even five minutes later, the sound of your window being opened from the outside shatters the blessed silence once more.
…oh.
Guess that answers the question of who had been pounding on your door. You mentally apologize to Neil.
“Sweetheart?” His voice is quiet as he steps into your room, and you don’t need eyes to know the way he’s probably wrinkling his nose at the smell of sickness that’s wafting inside the cramped space. His sense of smell is so sensitive, and you definitely don’t envy him for it. You can only imagine how your sweat-damp skin smells, or the mouth that had only experienced half of the recommended amount of teeth brushing this morning, too weak to remain standing for long.
Nose wrinkling, you cringe on his behalf.
You feel him settle on the edge of your bed behind you, hand immediately reaching out to rub your back, and your body can’t help but instinctively arch into his touch, despite the fact that you feel like death. He trails his fingers up to the back of your neck, the touch soothing and offering comfort in a way only he can. His skin on yours is the most natural feeling in the world.
“Not feeling well, sweetheart?”
You shake your head miserably, a full body shiver shaking you all the way down to your toes, before coughing into your pillow, too sick to bother covering your mouth and trusting the pillowcase to stop the spray.
Gross.
Matt’s hand gently pulls you over with a light hand on your shoulder until you’re laying on your back, and he makes sure to adjust the blankets around you so that no warmth seeps out from underneath the covers. Your eyes remain tightly shut, unwilling to subject yourself to the bright light of your bedroom. Your head is pounding, borderline migraine material, and even the thought of sunshine makes it throb. “Just a cold?”
Shaking your head again, you open your mouth to answer. “I think it’s the flu.” Your voice is barely more than a whisper, your throat too sore to get much else out. He makes a sympathetic noise in the back of his throat. If there’s anyone who understands the feeling of your entire body being sore and in pain, it’s him.
The man, even while he runs himself ragged, hardly ever gets sick. He averages four hours of sleep a night, ends his evenings with grazes and cuts that are likely full of all the various types of bacteria known to man, drinks way less water than he should, and he still remains relatively healthy.
Maybe it’s a good thing, though, you think wryly. He’d either be the worst case of man-flu you’ve ever seen, or he would end up in a ditch somewhere, out patrolling while delirious with a fever. Your man is a hot mess on a good day, and you can’t imagine adding sickness to the foray.
You feel him lay his hand softly on your forehead, and you shudder at how cold it feels in comparison to your warm skin. Your fever must have returned with a vengeance, and you acknowledge it with a barely restrained groan.
“You feel pretty warm,” he tells you, his voice quiet and one of concern. You appreciate that he’s using a gentle tone that is kind on your ears, not wanting to add anything loud and overwhelming less it makes the headache worse. “Have you taken anything?”
“Ibuprofen when I woke up.” Finally opening your eyes, you blearily watch as he frowns, red lips tilted down at the corners. His hand is still on your forehead, but he moves it to tuck a piece of hair behind your ear.
“When did you wake up?”
“Seven, I think.”
He sighs, moving his hand so that it rests on your cheek. “Sweetheart, that was almost six hours ago. Have you been asleep this whole time?”
“I think so,” you whisper, watching as he shrugs his suit jacket off. He tosses it on the chair that’s in the corner of the room, face still tilted towards yours. You always seem to be his sole focus when he’s around you, and it never fails to make your heart stutter. “I fell asleep after I texted you.”
Matt leans over to place his glasses on your bedside table before he returns back to you, his face one of confusion, and his eyes looking more hazel than normal in the sunlight as they roam blindly over your form. “You didn’t text me.”
Your own eyes briefly flutter close again, even as hard as you try to keep them open. You reach up and pull his hand away from your face so that you can lace your fingers with his. His hand squeezes yours gently. “Yeah I did. I told you I wasn’t going to make lunch today.”
“I didn’t get a text from you,” he reiterates with a calm shake of his head. “I’ve been calling you for the past hour when you didn’t show up.”
“But I–” Eyes opening again, you move to sit up, but he pushes you gently back down. Your neck and shoulders immediately relax back into your pillow with a sigh. “Can you hand me my phone?”
Matt grabs your phone from where it had apparently been resting by your knee and places it into your outstretched hand without a word. His hand goes back to your cheek so that can resume rubbing his thumb over your cheekbone, and it takes great effort to not fall back to sleep and close your eyes again. Fingers weak with sickness, you press in your fingerprint to unlock your phone, noticing immediately the several calls, texts and voicemails, most of them from him but a few from Karen, too. You grimace at the obvious display of his concern, knowing the level of anxiety that had likely popped up when you didn't answer any of the calls.
No wonder he had been pounding on your door.
You open up your chat with him, wincing when you see what had happened. “I never hit send,” you tell him with a whisper, throat still rebelling against the words forcing themselves out of your throat. “I’m sorry, Matt. I really did mean to text you. I was pretty out of it.”
He leans down and presses a kiss into your forehead. His stubble briefly rasps against your skin, and you can’t help but want to lean into it, even while the texture feels scratchy on skin that seems to be more sensitive than usual. “It’s alright, sweetheart. I’m just glad you’re okay.”
You snort softly, unable to help yourself. “If you call feeling like I’m dying okay, then sure. I’m okay.”
Matt makes another sympathetic sound in the back of his throat, hand still softly rubbing your cheek. You shift in your bed, trying to burrow yourself further into the covers. He pulls the blankets tighter around you, helping them settle up around your neck. “I’m going to grab Tylenol to help bring your fever down.”
You cringe, and Matt’s brow furrows, indicating he’s caught onto the brief twitch of your face. “I don’t have any.”
“You don’t have any Tylenol?”
You cough again, this time covering your mouth to avoid coughing in his face. He doesn’t shift away from you as you do, just continues to keep his face near yours so that you don’t have to strain your voice to speak to him. “No,” you manage to rasp out when you’re done. “I’m out.”
He groans suddenly. “I depleted your stash last week, didn’t I?”
The same memory that had apparently hit him hits you a second later, the image of him holding a bloody rag to his shoulder that had taken a heavy hit flitting through your head briefly. You’d given him the last two tablets in the bottle as his lips twisted into a wry grin, promising to buy you a new bottle. You’d asked him to promise to avoid getting hit so frequently instead, the grin on your face just as dry and fond.  “I– yeah, I think so.”
“I’m sorry, love. I meant to grab more for you.”
You twist your head to cover another cough. “It’s fine, I forgot about grabbing some, too.”
“Do you have Ibuprofen?” he asks as he runs a hand through his hair, still looking somewhat frustrated at himself as he shifts slightly on your bed.
“Not much, but yeah,” you say with a wince. “That bottle’s almost empty, too.”
“How about any cold medicine? Decongestants? Something for your cough?”
“No,” you reply with another grimace. To his credit, he doesn’t twist his face into the disbelief he’s surely feeling, both at himself and at you. His eye twitches, though.
“How are you out of that, too?”
“Judgmental, much?” you ask with a grin that’s far too humorous for the situation and the way everything seems to hurt, including the muscles in your face. “I wasn’t exactly planning to get this sick.”
“You should have–”
“Don’t be such a hypocrite, Matthew.”
He sighs, hand darting up to run a quick hand down his face, attempting to hide a smile that relays a level of exasperation. “What do you have, then?”
“Just Benadryl…that’s almost expired.”
Matt lets loose another loud exhale and slowly lifts his head to face the ceiling as if sarcastically thanking the universe for letting him fall for someone who seems to be so bad at taking care of themselves. You’d laugh if it wouldn’t lead to a loud coughing fit.
Pot. Kettle.
“Okay, I’m going to call Karen to see if she can bring some stuff by.”
“I don't–”
He's shaking his head before you even finish your objection. “Sweetheart, you’re so congested you can’t breathe out of your nose, and you've got a 101 degree fever. You need to take something," he tells you, and you know there’s no arguing against this man once he’s set his mind to something.
“How would you know my fever is that high?” Matt gives you the flattest look you’ve ever seen. “Okay, stupid question.”
“Just close your eyes,” he says, leaning down to kiss your forehead again. “I’m going to bring you a glass of water and some Ibuprofen, and call Karen to see if she can bring anything over.”
You nod miserably, energy suddenly draining and turning you back into a whimpering mess. He leaves the room, kicking his shoes off in the process, and you pick up your phone again once he’s out of sight, a wince twitching on your face at the notification of thirty emails that have popped up in your inbox. You open the app, scrolling down through the messages with a sigh.
“You better not be checking your email right now,” Matt’s voice calls out to you from the kitchen suddenly, and you almost drop your phone onto your face in surprise.
He knows you too well.
“I’m not,” you say as loudly as you can, which is still minimal, but you know he can hear you regardless, so you’re not too concerned. You roll over to place your phone back onto your bedside table with a loud sigh, wrist and arm feeling entirely too weak as it reaches out.
“Liar," is all he responds with, before his voice quiets down again. There’s a brief moment of silence before you pick up on the soft murmur of his voice, no doubt on the phone with Karen. The sound of your cabinet being opened and the faucet being turned on hits your ears, and you sigh at the domesticity of it all. Things of yours have been slowly migrating to his apartment in preparation of the move that’s happening in a month’s time, but there’s just something about him knowing your apartment like the back of his hand and feeling comfortable in a space that’s been solely yours for the past two years.
A few minutes later, he’s walking back into your bedroom, a glass of water in one hand, your dwindling bottle of painkillers in the other, mouth turned up in a soft, soothing smile. He helps you sit up, his arm gently snaking around your shoulders to support you, and encourages you to drink the water and toss back the pills as lips ghost across your forehead.
Even swallowing something cold makes your throat burn on the way down, and you groan in pain.
He helps you lay back down, easing you backwards and holding your weight so that you don’t just flop back onto the pillows. He pulls his arm out from underneath you and reaches out to set the glass onto your night table as he moves to stand up. You close your eyes again against the light of your room, and you hear the subtle sound of a belt being unbuckled and fabric hitting the chair in the corner.
Matt lifts up the covers and slides in beside you, his bare skin pressing up against yours as he nudges you onto your side so that he can cradle you from behind. Despite the brief chill, he quickly becomes a furnace pressed against you, and you can’t help the quiet moan that sneaks past chapped lips at the heat you hadn’t known you’d been needing.
“You’ll get sick,” you protest weakly as you settle into his chest, almost immediately soothed by the feeling of his arm wrapping around your waist.
“Don’t worry about me,” he whispers into your ear before leaning over you to kiss your cheek, settling back down behind you when he’s done, the warmth of his kiss still lingering. “Just go back to sleep, sweetheart. I’ll be here when you wake up.”
Despite the sickness ravaging your body, or maybe because of it, you slip back into an easy sleep, the rhythmic rise and fall of his chest behind you settling you the way it always does. Your head is pounding, your whole body aches, and you can’t breathe through your nose, but everything feels better when he’s holding you.

The first time you “disobeyed” Jamie (as he put it) was when he first started working. He had to get a new song finished by the end of the week and didn’t want to waste any time procrastinating. You understood that he needed time, so you tried to give him the space to focus. In your defense, he said he’d be done in a few minutes, never giving a specific time. So when you knocked on the door to ask if he wanted to watch tv after a few hours of him working and were told “give me a minute!”, you were confused. You did however know that it takes time for greatness, so you left him alone so he could keep working.
The second time occurred a little later in the day, when you were making a snack for yourself and accidentally slammed the cabinet door a little too hard. The thin walls weren’t helping you, and you heard him raise his voice to say “darling, be quiet!”. You let out a small sigh and sat down, eating what you made for yourself, and noticing the quiet piano coming from the room down the hall. Before meeting Jamie, you hadn’t ever had the urge to play an instrument. But within a year of being with him, he had taught you piano, guitar, and was trying to teach you the drums. You loved every second of him showing you how to play, his eyes lighting up when you played your first song for him. Jamie brought music into your life in a way that you had never heard before, and when you played for him, it was music to his ears.
The third (and final) time happened after you ate dinner. You had eaten alone, Jamie coming into the kitchen to get some of the lasagna you made and give you a quick kiss before going back into his studio. You cleaned up the dishes and then went to the bedroom, lying down and grabbing your phone to scroll through whatever looked interesting. More piano and guitar was heard, along with potential lyrics through the door that had been closed for far too long. You set your phone down on the bedside table and walk up to the studio door, knocking so gently you weren’t sure if he heard you. The music stops and you hear footsteps leading to the door. Jamie opens it and you see his eyes for only the 3rd time that day. He gives you a small smile before going to close the door again, but you stop it with your arm and a look of confusion appears on his face.
“Love, I have to work, please.” He tries to close it again, but your arm stays where it is.
“I’ve only seen you 3 times today, Jamie. I know you have to finish this by Friday, but it’s only Tuesday, baby. I was wanting to spend a little time with you before bed.” You lean against the door frame, positioning your foot so it keeps the door from closing.
“It’s only 7 darling, I'll be done soon.” His hand tucks a piece of hair behind your ear as he leans in to kiss you, and you kiss back. One of your hands reaches up to run through his hair, the other resting on his shoulder. You feel his other hand on your waist, and you’re gently pushed away from him. “As much as I want this to continue, I don’t want this to be in the back of my head.” He says, motioning to the setup he has behind him of sheet music and various instruments.
“You’ve been working since 10am, Jamie. I get that you have a deadline, but your girlfriend misses you.” You say, arms crossed. One of his brows raises and he looks you up and down.
“You miss me, do you?” His hands go to your waist, thumbs rubbing circles over your shirt. You nod, hoping he’ll take a few minutes to focus on you instead of his current task at hand. “I could tell, you’ve been trying to get my attention all day. Asking me questions, slamming things, just couldn’t stay quiet, could you?” He pulls you closer to him, wrapping his arms around you.
“Just wanted to see my favorite musician.” You smile, putting your hands on the sides of his neck. You feel his hands move lower, until they reach the back of your thighs. He picks you up and you squeal as you wrap your legs around his waist. A grin appears on his face while he walks backward a little bit before closing the door, pinning you against it. Taking your hands off his shoulders, he intertwines your fingers as he presses your hands against the door.
“You’re such a needy little thing, huh?” His lips go to your neck, leaving a trail of soft kisses that make you sigh and tilt your head, giving him better access. You felt him suckling and nipping at your neck. Jamie bit hard, enough to draw a whimper from you. The pulse where he had just bitten was beating a little faster, and you knew there would be a red mark there. He pulled his face away and his eyes connected with yours, making you shiver.
“Not needy, baby. Just missed you all day.” You try to lift your hands even a little, but you aren’t successful. “Jamie, this isn’t fair.” The words come out as more of a whine than you intended, which made a small smirk appear on his face.
“This isn’t fair?” He puts you down and backs away from you, the sudden loss of contact from him making you cross your arms again. “What isn’t fair is you wanting my attention, making all this commotion while I'm trying to work, then wanting more than what I give you.” He gives you a look that you knew all too well. There was a plan in his mind and you couldn’t deny the butterflies in your stomach, or the wetness you felt pooling in your panties. He grabs your hand and walks over to the piano bench, sitting down and pulling you to straddle him. “I’ll show you what isn’t fair. Act like a brat all day, gonna get treated like one.”
You feel him growing harder under you and you can’t help the smile that shows on your face. “I guess I'm not the only one that missed this.” Your arms link around the back of his neck as you grind against him only once, trying to get a reaction from him. His hands find a home on your hips and stop you from moving anymore.
“Did I say you could do that? No, I didn't. Brats don’t get to do what they want.” He moves you so you’re straddling one of his thighs, his hands still on your hips. Jamie begins to roll your hips against his sweatpant cladded thigh and your head rolled back a little with each bit of friction against your clothed clit.
“Jamie, fuck, please.” You lazily look back up at him with hooded eyes, your hands reaching up to the back of his neck, tugging at the roots of his hair. He lets out a groan and a lazy chuckle, resting his head in the crook of your neck.
“Now you wanna beg and be a good girl? It’s too late for that, darling.” You feel his thigh flex under you and you can’t help the whine that escapes you. “Jesus love, I can feel you soaking on my pants. Does my thigh feel good on your clit? I bet it’s so fuckin’ swollen.” Your legs shook with every word he said. The more he moved your hips against him, the more you moaned. The softness of his sweatpants felt good against you, but you needed more, and he knew it. “I’ll give you what you want, angel, but you can’t cum until I say so.”
“Whatever you want, I don't care, I just need more.” You know you sound desperate, but you’re more interested in feeling his hands on you. The oversized shirt you had on was pushed up to just above your panties, and one of his hands played with the waistband. He paused his teasing to move you back so you were straddling him and you felt his hands move slowly up your thighs. His fingers reached your panties and pulled them to the side, sucking in a breath when he saw how wet you really were.
“All this for me, darling?” His blue eyes keep contact with yours, as if putting you in a trance. You nod and feel him hover a finger over your clit before applying pressure, moving in slow circles. It wasn’t a lot, but you didn’t care.
“J-Jamie, oh my god.” The noise was music to his ears, moving his finger lower until sliding it inside of you. He started with slow thrusts just to hear you whine for him to go faster. Your eyes closed as you tried to hold back the moans he was pulling from you. His name fell from your lips like a prayer when he added another finger, thrusting even faster and curling them at the special spot inside of you. Your hands gripped his biceps for support when he added his thumb to the mix, rubbing harsh circles on your throbbing clit. Jamie waited until the last possible second before the tight coil inside you could burst, pulling his fingers out as your head started to fall back.
“I believe I said not to cum until I said so.” Jamie brought his fingers to his mouth, sucking them inside and licking them clean. He removes his fingers with a pop and grips your thighs, lifting you as he stands. Setting you down on top of the piano, he leans in and kisses you. A quiet moan leaves you as you barely taste yourself on his tongue. The kiss is over too quickly for your liking when he pulls away, a small smirk appearing on his face. “I think you can handle more edging, angel.”
“I really don’t think so Ja-” You stop talking when you feel his lips press gentle kisses against your thigh. Looking up at you, he gives you a wink before inching his lips up more, closer to where you needed him. His hands pulled your thighs apart and you saw his eyes light up at the sight of your pussy soaking through your panties, before deciding that the fabric had to go. The warmth of his body was hard to ignore as he stood up and moved closer to you, fingers going under the waistband and pulling down your panties. They were thrown in no particular direction and Jamie knelt back down so he was eye level with the place you wanted, needed, to feel him.
“If you touch me, I’ll stop.” Is all he says, his breath hitting your clit with every word. He looks up at you to make sure you heard him and he sees you nod. His bright eyes keep contact with yours as he finally licks at your clit, just once, sending a shock through you. Your hands balled into fists as you tried with every ounce of self control to not pull his hair. He stands again, gently nudging at your shoulders to make you lie down across the shiny black surface. His hands grab your own and bring them to the sides of your head before setting them down. “These don’t move, understand?” One of his hands travels to your throat, gently squeezing as he speaks.
“Yes, god yes, I understand.” You nod as best you can with his hand around you. He lets go of your throat and both his hands travel down your body, moving up your shirt so it wouldn’t be in the way. His face gets closer to your clit and your breathing quickens from the anticipation. You felt his soft lips close around your clit and suck softly, humming as he swiped his tongue over it. Your lips parted and a moan left you as you felt him pull you closer to him. He knew that he drove you crazy with how he made you feel, it was a feeling he’d never get tired of.
“You’re so needy for me, darling.” He hovered a finger over your entrance while he went back to sucking your clit, making you whine for more. He slowly pushed his finger in as his teeth grazed over your clit, your back arching up a little at the feeling. Gentle pumps mixed with his mouth on you made your mind turn to mush as you tried to not move your hands to tug his hair. After a few seconds, another finger was added and he quickened his pace.
“Jamie, please don’t stop.” Your voice comes out shaky and your head tilts back a little. His lips pull away from your clit and he licks it again, his tongue spelling something. It takes a second to figure out what it is; his name. You moan at the thought of him taking the time to trace out each letter and your hips buck up, wanting more. His free hand presses on your hips to keep them down and the coolness of his rings on your skin makes a shiver go down your spine. “I need more, baby, I need to feel more.” You feel your face turn red as you speak and you’re almost positive your heart is beating out of your chest.
“You want more from me? I’m giving you so much already, why don’t you use that pretty mouth of yours to tell me what you want princess, hmm?” He pulls away from your clit as he speaks, his hand still moving at a fast pace inside you. You struggle to form a coherent sentence as you look up to see him looking right back at you. His blue eyes sparkle as he waits to hear what you have to say.
“Your mouth- tongue- please.” You take a breath between words, trying to be as clear as possible with what you want. He snickers quietly as he watches you squirm from just his fingers inside of you. Your lips part and a moan leaves you, your legs shaking from how good it felt. Both fingers curled inside of you and your back arched, but it wasn’t enough, not yet.
“God, you’re so needy and desperate for me.” His tone changed from playful to degrading as he spoke and it made your eyes roll back. You don’t get the chance to beg for more when you feel his tongue slide in next to his fingers. A pornographic moan leaves you as your body feels like it’s on fire, but you didn’t want it to stop. It was an entirely new feeling for you, but judging from the way your walls squeezed around him, he knew you loved it.
“Jamie, holy shit-” You can’t finish your words as you feel him pumping his fingers and tongue in and out of you, curling up to graze that perfect spot inside you again. “F-feels so fucking good.” The praise is noticed by him and he moans against you, looking up to see your head thrown back. He felt you squeeze around him again and knew you were close, so he increased his speed. His other hand went to your clit, thumb moving in fast circles against the sensitive part of you.
“Cum for me, princess. Wanna feel you explode all over my mouth and fingers.” He pulls away to speak, but returns just as fast, repeatedly rubbing against that special spot only he could touch. Your thighs shook and your back arched as you came, making Jamie moan as he felt you gush around him. The only words you could say were his name followed by a string of profanity as he continued his assault on your now very sensitive pussy. He helps you ride out your high, slowly cleaning you up with his tongue as you twitch from the sensitivity every few seconds. “Look at you, all fucked out, so pretty.” He sucks his fingers clean and kisses up your body, lips eventually touching yours and you groan when he kisses you, still tasting yourself on him. “We’re not quite done yet though.” You watch as he dug in his pants pocket for his wallet, pulling out a condom.
“Let me, baby.” You’re still slightly panting as you lean up and take the condom from his hand and set it down next to you. Both of your hands go to the waistband of his sweatpants, pulling them and his boxers down in one go. His cock springs forward, hitting his stomach with a wet slap, and your jaw drops at the sight. Your eyes travel up his body after gawking at how hard he is, and the smirk on his face makes your cheeks turn red. You keep eye contact with him as you reach for the condom with one hand and lick your other hand, bringing it to his shaft and giving a few strokes. His stomach muscles tense as you touch him, his head tilting back the slightest bit.
“Angel, I need to feel you wrapped around me.” Jamie's voice comes out strained as he lowers his head to look at you, seeing you bat your eyes innocently. You bring the condom wrapper up to your mouth, tearing it open with your teeth while your other hand continues stroking him, squeezing every few seconds. Your free hand takes the condom from the package and slides it onto his cock, making him let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. Jamie quickly gets fed up with how slow things are going, sliding you off the piano and turning you around. “Time to fuck you like the brat you are.”
“Take it ea-” You get cut off when Jamie's hand wraps around your throat and applies a small amount of pressure, pulling your back against his still clothed chest. His other hand hikes up your shirt so it’s just above your belly button before taking his cock and rubbing the tip against your clit, making you squirm with anticipation. “Jamie, please. Wanna feel you de-” A moan sneaks out of you as he thrusts once into you, completely filling you up.
“God, you feel good wrapped around me.” Jamie says with a groan as he throws his head back. His thrusts started slow, but they were deep, hitting every inch of your dripping pussy. He knew exactly how to please you, every spot that made your eyes roll back and toes curl. You felt his hand squeeze your throat as he pressed a sloppy kiss to your temple. “Look at my princess, taking everything I have to give.” A sharp thrust followed his words, and his other hand pressed onto the bulge that was now visible from inside of you. “See that? Feel that? That’s how deep I am in you. Such a pretty fucking pussy.” His tattooed hand squeezes harder with every word, making your moans hard to hold back.
“Right there, god, please do that again.” It comes out more strangled than intended, but he knew exactly what you wanted. He knew he found the spot inside you that made you see stars and he gave another thrust up into it, making you grab his arm, nails digging into his skin. You clench around him and he lets out a moan as he rests his head on your shoulder. His lips press soft kisses to the spot right under your ear, playfully biting just enough to leave a mark.
“Gonna cum for me, love? Can feel the way you’re squeezing me so fucking well.” His head lifts off your shoulder and he takes his hand off your stomach, bringing his fingers to his mouth. He licks from the middle to the tip of three fingers before trailing them down your body and rubbing fast figure 8s on your clit. The combination of his cock and fingers is becoming too much for you, and you can both tell by how your legs start to shake. Your upper body is still for a second as your legs threaten to close from the sensitivity between them and you can practically see his tired smirk from behind you. One final squeeze to the throat, and you lose all control.
“Oh my- fucking- Jamie-” Coherent words weren’t in your vocabulary as the pleasure from him took over your body. It felt as if you were on fire, in the best way possible. His hand tugs at your neck, pulling your head back so your lips meet his with a sloppy kiss, mainly teeth and tongue. You feel him groan into your mouth from how much you were squeezing his cock, and it made you clench around him again.
A string of swear words left his mouth as his hips stilled, and you felt his stomach muscles tighten. His cock tensed inside of you while he came hard, grunts and moans falling from his lips to yours as he kept holding you against him. He ended the kiss, a string of saliva connecting your lips as he thrusted into you slowly, riding out the rest of his orgasm as you let out soft whines in his ear from the slight over stimulation. The thrusting finally stops and he carefully pulls out, tying off the condom and tossing it in the trash next to the piano.
His hand leaves your throat and you can feel the mark he left, but that’s what you loved about sex with Jamie, how excited he was to leave you with bruises. Your hands rest on the piano to steady yourself as you breathe deeply and feel his hands gently rubbing your sides to try and provide comfort. The warmth from his body is gone from behind you and you hear him pull his pants back up before walking to where your panties landed earlier. He comes back behind you and helps you put them back on, pressing soft kisses to your calves and whispering praises under his breath as you step into the fabric.
When you’re both dressed again he puts his hands on your hips and walks you to the door. He sees your legs slightly shaking as he pushes it open and he smiles to himself before picking you up and carrying you to the bedroom. You feel the bed under you as he lays you down and you feel his weight next to you once he gets next to you. Instinctively you roll over, putting your head on his chest and leg on his thigh. Your limbs were tangled together, your arm reaching across to his shoulder as he put a hand on your arm, rubbing soothing shapes into the skin.
“You did so well, angel. Such a good girl for me.” He kissed the top of your head as he spoke, his voice slightly hoarse from what happened just a few minutes earlier. Jamie loved music with all his heart. Singing, playing instruments, writing songs, the whole process of it. You were his favorite song. Whether you were playing the drums or the guitar, or having his cock deep inside you, it was all music to his ears.

“To love someone is firstly to confess: I'm prepared to be devastated by you.”
[ billy-ray belcourt, a history of my brief body ]
━━━━━━━━━━━━
Something had shifted in you that week.
At first, Spencer thought it was the last case. The team had spent four days straight searching for the suspect and the outcome wasn't successful. The scenes were still gripped onto his brain — that's the bad part about having an eidetic memory, he could never forget anything.
It might have been that, but your far-away gaze and the constant biting into your nails told him that wasn't the only reason. Spencer didn't need to profile you to acknowledge when you were distressed about something. You had a tell: the avoidance when looking in someone's eyes; scratching your left eyebrow repeatedly. Many other things as well, sometimes he just had to hear you breathe a certain way and he'd know.
Your body language was too familiar for him to erase. And he wouldn't be able to do it if he tried. Eidetic memory and all.
There was a certain melancholy wavering in your eyes. He could see it so clearly and he wondered if Penelope did it too and that's the reason she kept on insisting that you'd go hang out with all of them. Have shots, dance a little, let loose.
Spencer recognised her intentions but he also saw the will to just take off in your retracting step.
He approached the two of you slowly.
“We'll meet you there.” He said to her, giving you a glance at the corner of his eye. No one would have noticed it right away, maybe if they were paying attention to him closely. It was quick, so quick you wouldn't have noticed if you weren't looking for a way out and he appeared just at the right moment. He saw your throat move as you swallowed hard, knuckles tight as you held onto the strap of your bag. Your shoulders relaxing slightly in his presence.
“Oh,” the blonde blinked, gaze traveling from you to Spencer as if she knew something you didn't. “Okay. We'll see you there then.”
It didn't go unnoticed by him the way multiple pairs of eyes followed you two as you walked out of the Bureau. Spencer chose to ignore their noisy behavior and focus on your shaky hands and fast steps.
He called out your name with apprehension, causing you to spin around to face him. Folding your arms across your chest, your demeanor switched from nervous to a more comfortable one. "Sorry, I just— I don't really feel like going out tonight."
"You don't have to justify yourself to me," He gave you a soft smile. "Do you want to talk?"
It wasn't like before — the two of you. Does anything ever stay the same? His life proved him the answer was no. Your relationship changed a lot after your break-up; it was bound to. You went from spending entire days together, living in the same apartment, to not facing each other at work because it was too painful. It wasn't until a few months ago that he and you started to get closer again, rekindling your friendship.
Spencer didn't think he could bear not having you in his life at all, he'd rather you be there despite the distance.
"You can go, Reid," You said softly. "Thank you for getting me out of that but you don't have to stay."
"I don't really feel like going out either." He shrugged, burying his hands in his pockets. You huffed out a laugh and something in his chest burst.
"You used me to free yourself from a night-out, Doc?" His widened eyes reminded you of a puppy. "I'm joking." You said with a mild smile before he could start apologizing frantically. You knew that look and you knew what came right after.
Spencer was your rock at some point. You've relied on him more ways than you could count. That would've been fine if you didn't go overboard with it. In your worst times, Spencer was there. He helped you stand up, to be yourself. But once you crawled down a rabbit hole of nothingness, there was no anchor that would be able to hold you back to the shore. And you almost dragged him down with you. Before that happened, you pushed him away. That was the hardest thing you had to do.
“If you don't want to talk, can I at least drive you home?”
That's how you ended up on the passenger side of your car, the street lights flashing before your eyes as the car moved on to the avenue. The trees were all but a blur, except for when you looked close enough. They'd slow down with you, almost as if time had freezed.
“There's some Mozart in there.” You referred to the car radio while leaning back and shutting your eyes. You didn't feel like crying anymore, just plainly sad. You wanted to hear his voice, you wanted him to ramble about statistics concerning snakes or geometry, you didn't care. “Spencer.”
“Mhm?”
“Have you ever been scared of the future?”
You felt the car stop, when you flutter your eyelids open, the red light reflected upon the windshield.
“Multiple times.”
“What made you move on?”
“I haven't.” He said quietly, staring at your keychain. It was still the same little howling wolf attached to the moon. He had gifted that to you on your fifth date when you visited the Planetarium. You loved Astronomy so he thought it would be the perfect place to take you. The keychain has been attached to your car keys since that night, among other things that remained exactly the same, not exactly in the physical aspect. “I'm just not scared at this particular moment.” He stole a glance at you, caught off guard when he saw you already staring back.
Your lips twitched, “Me neither.” The green light flickered on and he turned the street. The distance from your apartment wasn't that far from Quantico, twenty-five minutes at most. Now you just wished the time didn't pass at all. “Can you turn left here?”
The car slowed down.
“You want to go to the park?”
You nod, preparing to hop off. “You can just drop me off and head home.” That park was a five minute walk to your place, you didn't need your car to get home anyway and you'd be fine taking the subway tomorrow.
He didn't mind your words, as soon as the engine halted, he waited for you to step out before trailing after you.
His stubbornness wasn't strange to you but you still quirked a brow at it.
That swing hadn't moved since the day you moved into Montclair. The whole park grew to have more slides, a brand new seesaw, and a makeshift maze for kids. Fortunately, the swing remained.
“I'm gonna push you.” Spencer said, standing from his swing to walk behind yours. You snickered, tilting your head back to stare at his overexcited expression. “I won't do it too harshly.”
His careful tone made you feel like a little kid back at elementary school.
That had been your third date, you had invited him to meet your place. You watched an entire season of Doctor Who and he slept over. That's all you ever did, really. And talk the whole night, sharing stupid jokes and deep secrets. The weekend was spent with you showing Spencer all of your favorite spots in the neighborhood.
“You can see Ursa Minor so clearly from here.”
“Draco and Cepheus are right there too.” You mumbled, leaning your cheek on the cold swing chain, attention uplifting to the sky.
“Did you know that despite containing third and fourth magnitude stars Cepheus has no Messier objects? And no meteor showers associated with it as well.”
With your eyelashes fluttering lazily, a warm feeling stretched over your chest. These were the effects of Spencer's presence, whenever you were around him your mind would rest with none of that spiraling it was doing an hour ago. Indulging in his topic, he rambled about constellations for a while before the pitch of his voice lowered to a soft tone upon seeing your eyes fluttered shut.
“I should get you home. You need to sleep.”
“I slept alright at the hotel.”
“I saw you walking around at 1 a.m,” Spencer shakes his head. “Your eyes were dropping on our way back, you are barely standing awake.”
“Thanks for the compliment, handsome. I feel the love.”
He chose to ignore the mocked flattering. “I can stay over until you fall asleep.”
Tempting offer. And an unfair one, too. To him, that is. Spencer made you feel safe, he made you feel grounded and level headed. That never changed. But things weren't like they used to be and you weren't about to ask him to stay over because you were a coward. Figuratively and literally speaking.
“I'm fine, Spencer.” You are too good for your own good.
The moonlight created a curtain against your features, your eyelashes shadowing your cheeks and the tip of your nose. You looked both peaceful and exhausted. He was only trying to help but you were too stubborn.
“I don't think I'm able to make someone happy.”
Spencer isn't foreign to late night confessions. He's done it himself. Our body's melatonin increases during the night which connects with the less light input to the SCN – area of the suprachiasmatic nucleus. To put it simply, our system is put to sleep mode, alerting us that we need to rest because the day is coming to an end. Our thoughts are slightly fuzzy and we don't retain much control of our actions. That's why people do stupid things at nighttime; well, one of the reasons, he cannot vouch for every single person and what happens in their brains.
That also relates to intrusive thoughts, they tend to come in as we're setting in to sleep, creeping up on the vulnerable hour.
You've shared a lot with each other. You have confided in him some of your darkest thoughts, as he has. He knows things about you that nobody else does and vice-versa. However, he had never heard you say that before.
“There's a lot to love about you.” The conviction in his tone made you cast him a careful look. He couldn't be that sure, could he? Not anymore.
“You've dated me, you're inclined to agree with me on this,” you said, nudging his arm playfully. He could see past that façade like a blink of an eye.
“That doesn't make sense.” His brows furrowed as he turned to you. “You've always been kind and strong and passionate about anything you do. Including loving somebody. You've stood by me when I couldn't stand by myself and you never once left. Even if you should have.”
You blink up at him in shock, slightly more aware of your surroundings. "Reid," But he cuts you off before you can say anything else.
“... And it's not only about the things you did but how when you enter a room, everything lights up,” his eyes soften and the edge of his lips barely quirk up. “I know that was a cliche thing to say, but that's all I could think whenever you would come in every morning. You make everyone's days better by just being there. By being you. So don't say you're not able to make someone happy. Because you make me happy even after—” his voice trails off. He doesn't face you but you can see the way his gaze drifts unfocused to his feet. His mind taking him back. And you are taken back, too.
It's no news that your line of work is heavy. Each casefile weighs on your hands as it does in your heart. But it's your job and you've been doing this for years, you're used to it.
Wrong. You never get used to it. And some days you can't go back to yourself as easily. So you push people away. You ended up pushing him away too.
“I'm just tired of fighting.” You state, tiredly running a hand through your face.
Spencer tosses his go-bag on the loveseat, loosening his tie with a frown. “We don't fight." He says shortly. "You're never here, how could we fight? You're never here at all. We barely hold a conversation.”
You visibly flinch, “Spencer, that's not true.”
“It is. And you know it is. You've been delaying this for three months. I can't just carry on like that, you have to speak to me. Just— just speak to me. please? I'm right here.” His frustration is thrown out the window when he finally looks at you. You had a forlornness expression on your features and he wanted more than anything to drive it away.
“I'm not." You let out in a breath. "I don't know where I am, Spencer.”
“Let me help finding you." He begged, taking one of your hands on his. There was something irrevocably broken within you two. He could feel it. "I can do it. You just have to let me be there.”
“I can't. I can't do it. I'm sorry.”
Just like that, it was over. You took a leave of absence from work and disappeared out of the radar for about two months. It was outlandish staying away from your routine, you missed the mess and your people every single day. You missed Spencer more than your heart could take. When you came back, you felt as if you could breathe once again. This time, you didn't choke on the truth or felt as if darkness was swallowing you. Maybe you just needed some time to find yourself.
Now, you were losing that again.
“She asked me to go to France with her.”
Spencer turned to you, head tilting forward so the chains didn't get in the way of his line of sight. He knew whom the her referred to in the sentence. You had started dating someone recently. Spencer knew who she was because she acted as a consultant in a case a long time ago. He'd occasionally see her around the department, Penelope was her friend and you were her girlfriend, it wasn't that unusual.
He watched you fall in love again. Move on. But you stayed friends so that's what mattered to him. He'd rather have you platonically than lose you forever. You walked into his life and took a piece of his heart without asking, he couldn't handle being away from you permanently.
Was that about to happen? Were you going to France to live a new life and leave it all behind?
“And what did you say?” He kicked a rock, swallowing the lump in his throat.
Silence overflows in your conversation, helping Spencer's anxiety to spike up.
“What am I supposed to do in France being completely ignorant with French, Reid.” You said, giving him a half laugh as you swayed on the swing. He opened his mouth and closed it twice, confusion causing his forehead to curl in the middle.
“English might not be widely spoken in France, but approximately 57% of the French population speaks it to a conversational level.” He pauses. “You would get by alright.” He mumbles quietly, drawing an uneven circle form on the sand with his shoe. It didn't even make sense that you'd decline that opportunity because your French wasn't good.
“Spencer.”
“Mhm?”
He didn't look at you, too busy paying attention on the ground like a toddler who's lost his toy. Rolling your eyes, you pushed his swing harshly to the side, gaining a height-pitched yelp. A full belly laugh blossomed out of you.
“This is bullying.” He remarks, narrowing his eyes at you as his swing stabilized. The corner of his lips betrayed him almost immediately.
Your eyes acquire a spark of amusement. “I'm not going, Spencer,” you said. “It was never my plan to leave here. Not for good, at least.”
“So, you're staying?”
“Yes.”
You waited for the question but he never said it, so you carried on. “We broke up.”
“Oh,” he breathed out. A sudden urge to hold you ignited in him. “How are you?”
“I'm okay.” You offered him a soft smile. It's not like you weren't affected by the break-up, you just enjoyed it while it lasted. And though you never reached the stage of falling in love, it was good. It just made you think that as another cycle came to an end, you were stuck in a limbo. Were you capable of making someone happy? Or did you only leave bad memories through someone else's life? Were you their bad part? The one they'd rather not remember?
There's a lot to love about you.
“I'm sorry that I hurt you.”
Spencer glanced at you, stunned.
“Why would you—”
You interrupt him with a shake of your head, “No, Spencer. I've never— We've never talked about it. But I need you to know that falling out of love wasn't the reason why I ended things between us.” His gaze was attentive and you bit your lip before you let out the next words. “I was hurting and I needed to heal on my own. I know that I had you, I know that. But I didn't want to drag you down with me. What if—What if I made it worse? What if I just destroyed that idea you had of me because I couldn't pick myself up?” You huffed out a shaky breath. That wasn't an easy topic. It had never been. “I'm sorry. The truth is that I didn't want you to see me the way I saw myself. It would... wreck me. That and— I was needing you to simply breathe. You were the only thing that kept me going, I couldn't just put that weight on you, it wasn't fair.”
You heard your name being said in a plea but you carried on. You had to get it all out before you regret it.
“... the day I let you go was the hardest day of my life. But it was necessary.” You paused, your eyes had that familiar stinging sensation. “I'm sorry, Spencer. I know you blame yourself, but it was really all my fault.”
“I know why you did it.”
You locked your gaze to his, eyes widening in bewilderment “What?” you asked, voice failing slightly. Of all the things you expected to hear, those words weren't one of them.
Spencer lined up his shoes on the sand, his forehead twitching before he started speaking.
“I know why you— why we broke up.” He needed to correct himself because even though you were the one responsible to call it quits, he was just as responsible for letting you go. “I saw the signs, you know? They were written in neon lights to me but I didn't know what to do so I just had to—” he let out a sigh, feeling guilty at what he was about to say. But he had to say it, it's been so long and he has that bottled up for such a long time. “You didn't let me be there. I knew you were struggling and I could see you weren't being yourself but you just left while being right there.”
You stayed quiet, you've been waiting to hear his words on this. That conversation should have happened a long time ago.
“What I'm trying to say is that, it hurt. I didn't wait for it to happen—I never wanted it to happen,” he finally glanced up at you. “... but I know why it happened and I don't blame you for it, I need you to understand that.”
Your face morphed into puzzlement, “Spencer, how can you not blame me?”
“You needed space.” Those were your exact words that night and he knew the meaning behind them. “And I know what it feels like to feel suffocated by love when you can't give it back at that moment. The guilt and the shame; I know those.”
Suddenly, it was like you were staring at the Spencer from all those nights ago. The one to whom you told you needed to go, the one who you could barely stand to face some days because it was too much in your head, the one who asked you to stay but told you he would always be there when you chose to go.
Here's the thing: that Spencer never disappeared. He was still very present in the person you were looking at, still kind, still endearing, just a different haircut. He was still the same Spencer Reid you've always known.
“I loved you,” you blurted out, feeling your throat tightening. “You know that, don't you?”
He gave you a sad smile, “I do.”
“I didn't want to go.” A tear trailed down your cheek and you quickly wiped it with the back of your hand. There's way more to come but you could hold it off for a little. “But I had to. I needed to do that by myself.”
“I know.”
“I never stopped loving you, Spencer.” You croaked out, sniffling as more tears started to come out. You didn't have control anymore. But that was Spencer. He had seen you cry thousands of times before. “It was just so hard—”
“I know,” he said softly, half desperate to tuck you into his arms and tell you it would be okay and half suffering because he knew that feeling all too well and it was so painful to bring that topic back. It was so raw. “It's okay.” Because it was. He was seeing you wipe away your tears harshly when you didn't have to do that. It was okay to cry in front of him, it was okay to let it go. “Please, don't do that,” he requested kindly. That's when you felt a warm touch pulling at your wrists softly to stop you from covering your face. The scene in front of you would be comical if you weren't so sad.
Spencer held your hands on his chest with one of his as the other worked on drying off your damp cheeks. He was kneeling on the sand not caring how he would get up without cracking his limbs apart or how his pants would get dirty. A concerned look dancing on his features.
“Sorry,” you croaked out, closing your eyes as he dried your tears with his soft touch. “It's just been a hard day.”
“Yeah,” his fingers lingered on your cheek before he withdrew it while clearing his throat. “It's okay, you don't have to apologize. But I need you to trust me on this, alright? When I say that don't blame you, i mean it.” Your gaze drifted through his features quietly, you were searching for that hitch of hesitation, the twitch that revealed a lie; but you found none. Lifting a hand to touch his cheek was a gesture of surprise to both of you and you retracted it before your fingers could graze him. Spencer kept staring at you as if there was something he couldn't figure out.
“You're supposed to be mad at me.” You cleared your throat, looking down at your hands.
“Why would I be mad at you?”
“Because you're here cleaning my tears, when you would have enjoyed your night with everyone else.”
Spencer gave you a tilt of head, “Why do you keep insisting that I'd rather be anywhere else?”
With a roll of eyes, you held back the will to groan loudly. He stood up, protesting softly causing your lips to curl up in amusement. “That hasn't changed.” You mentioned his knee and it was his turn to give you an eye roll.
“Glad you're having fun,” he said. “Get up, I'm taking you home.”
You shook your head, standing up from the swing, not at all protesting like he did. “You can take my car.”
His brows furrowed in confusion. “What?”
“Go home, Spence.” His eyes softened at the nickname, one he hadn't heard in your voice for a long time. “It's not even a five minute walk from here to my apartment. And I'm not going to let you take the subway at this hour.” You said with finality in your tone. “Either you take my car or you sleep over.” He blinked as you poked his cheek with a low chuckle.
You were clearly joking about the sleeping over part, you knew he'd never take that option. Still, it was funny seeing his scrunched up face.
“Okay.” Spencer folding his arms across his chest. The streetlight latched onto his profile, illuminating his cheeks in with the yellow light, that's when you could see the dark bags around his eyes. Seems like you weren't the only one having a hard time sleeping. “I'll pick you up in the morning.”
Your eyes widened lightly. “You don't have—”
“I’ll be here.” He is quick to brush you off, mentioning your parked car on the side of the road. There was barely any indication of life in the streets, except for two other cars and a guy walking his dog. “And I'll take you home, too. C'mon. It's late. If you're not letting me take the subway, I won't let you walk home at this hour, either.”
“You’re stubborn.”
“And you're annoying,” he threw back, earning a gasp from you to which he tried to hold back a grin. Oh, it was all too familiar to not have that bittersweet feeling crawling up his spine.
That bickering? That was the most normal you two have been in months. He missed that. You missed that.
“That hasn't changed.” He added softly, leaning on the driver's door as you walked around to reach your side. You froze before entering the car, eyes lifting and locking with his honey brown ones like magnets lining up in the field. How could it feel like coming home after a long time spent away? The walls and the smell, they remained there, the ceiling might be a little cracked, but you would always feel the same walking into that same room.
He watched as you entered your building, waving him goodbye with a contained smile and tired eyes. Only when the gate closed behind you did he drive away to his own neighborhood. The jasmine scent of the car and the keychain brushing against his fingertips every time he made a turn drew a nostalgic smile in his features. As for you, well. You didn't feel as if you were beyond repair anymore. In spite of the cracks and the scars and the fears, devastation wasn't the only thing in your corner, there may be something else there as well. Someone.
Apparently, nothing had changed. And everything did, at the same time.

“I do not want to have you to fill the empty parts of me.
I want to be full on my own. I want to be so complete I could light a whole city. and then, I want to have you.
‘cause the two of us combined could set it on fire.”

Comes in Waves - Vintage & Modern
Entries for the 2024 RadioStatic Week.
Fandom: Hazbin Hotel Rating: Teen and Up Audience Relationship: Alastor/Vox Additional Tags: Cursing, Angst, Fluff and Angst, I'll try and write a good mix of both happy and sad, They're both idiots when it comes to love.
“Yes, no, I get that- Fucking excuse you? You have the audacity to say that to-” Vox let out a warning growl into his phone. Taking slight pleasure in having the demon on the other end stumble over his words. “Listen here, you little shit, you work for me. This ‘promotion’ was just because you had somehow come up with a clever idea. That’s it. If I didn’t think your shit was marketable, I would be consuming your soul without a second thought for even approaching me with your stupidity. Do I make myself clear?”
There was a weak noise of confirmation.
“Good, then you figure out how to make it happen. I gave you a deadline. Get it done. Don’t bother me with this again.”
Pressing the end call harder than he meant to, Vox let out another aggravated growl. Great, now his screen was cracked. One more thing to sour his already poor mood.
He looked up as the elevator let out a small ‘ding’, announcing his arrival to his penthouse. Vark was already waiting by the front door. Happily bounding around as Vox entered the area.
The Media could hold back the small smile as he tracked Vark. “Hey you…at least someone’s happy to see me…”
Feeding his companion and getting his own food, Vox took a quick glance at the time.
6pm.
He had an hour until the show started. Plenty of time.
He ate, cleaned up both the kitchen and himself, changed into something far more comfortable, and locked down his penthouse. The area went dark as Vox walked into his bedroom, Vark not far behind. The hammerhead shark made himself comfortable on the large bed while Vox wandered over to a bare stretch of wall.
Knowing he had no reason to, Vox double checked to make sure it was just the two of them before typing a code into the wall. A small portion slid back, allowing Vox to reach inside and pull out a small radio. An old fashioned one, an very early model that the Media Overlord had been very fortunate to find in his early years in Hell.
When he’d purchased it, Vox had just barely started his climb in the ranks. A little more than a nobody, biding his time with his inventions and grand ideas. No one batted an eye when he purchased the radio. He wasn’t the technology tycoon yet, he hadn’t been vocal about his disdain for vintage items.
Because he didn’t have a reason to fuel his hatred into the items yet.
Vox carefully placed it on his bedside table, getting comfortable with Vark laying into his back, before he turned the radio on. It staticed for a few seconds. Vox fiddled with the knobs as he helped it try to focus on the correct station. And, just like magic, Alastor’s voice started to pour out and into the darkened room.
“Salutations, my wonderful listeners. I have returned to bring you proper entertainment for you to indulge in. I have a few stories I plan on sharing with you tonight, a particularly interesting one involving a sinner who thought he could best me. Poor lad, I believe he was new to Hell and didn’t know better. And will never learn his lesson now. As well as a wide selection of music to listen to in between. There is a theme for this evening. If you think you’ve figured it out, I would love to hear from you from your sent in letters. I’d love to tell you how wrong you are on the next show.”
Vox settled down in his bed further, bunching his pillow under his chin as he listened. He felt Vark wiggle a bit more before getting comfortable himself. The shark started to snore soon enough. Vox smiled softly at the sound before he focused back onto Alastor’s voice.
Allowing the words to wash over him as another blanket to calm his nerves, to take him away from the stresses of the day.
Vox was fast asleep before the show reached its hour mark. Screen dim with  ‘sleep mode’ text just barely visible. All the while, Alastor’s voice filled in the quiet, filled Vox’s mind and dreams.
“And it appears we have reached the end of our run time, dear listeners. Midnight is fast approaching and I must give you all a fond farewell. Until next week rolls around, that is.”
“Sleep well…and I look forward to the time when we can meet once more.”
_____________________________
Despite the protest that he made, Alastor was vetoed at every turn to get that blasted picture box out of the hotel. Charlie insisted upon it. Said it would help keep everyone up to date as to what was happening in Hell.
As if he wouldn’t already know. But lesser demons need lesser tools to get the same job done, he supposes.
Regardless, Alastor has made his point clear that anything to do with that box or anything connected with it was not going to be handled by him. Especially after that commercial disaster. Ugh. At least he had a deal with Vaggie to never be bothered by it again. Small victories…
His footsteps barely made a sound as he made his way through the darkened hallways of the hotel. The many windows providing the only illumination for that time of the night. All were fast asleep, tucked away in their beds, uncaring about the world around them. A break from the worries and strife that always seemed to be closing in.
How he wished he could join them. But sleep always seemed to elude him these days. Which left him to just wander the halls of his new confinement.
Making his way down the large staircase, Alastor found himself in the main area. Pausing to look around the area, letting his mind work on small problems and details that would hopefully help this place look less like a joke. Even if it wasn’t his most passionate project, he did have some pride poured into this place. His image was attached to it after all…
Eyes eventually land on the picture box. He felt his skin prickle at it. If anyone was around to witness this, they would have concluded it was his silent objection towards the piece of technology.
Puffing out his chest, he walked over to said contraption. Standing by the couch as he glared the item down. It didn’t respond back. Because of course it wouldn’t. The screen was as blank as every other time Alastor has gazed upon it. Barely any light reflecting off of it.
He did hate this thing. That wasn’t a lie. But the reasoning behind was not always…truthful. Alastor will always stand by the fact of radio being the more superior version of entertainment. The picture box made those who looked at it mindless, drooling zombies. So his detest for anything ‘modern’ was not unwarranted. Why change what works so well?
But the picture box, the TV, was a more…physical reminder. A harder thing for him to push past and forget.
Because it looked like him.
Vox’s original head, original face. The big, clunky, and very heavy set that made it difficult to walk on occasion. Alastor remembers teasing the other Overlord about it so many times.
He moves forward. Sitting down in front of it, legs crossed, cane placed to the side, Alastor indulged himself. Let’s the world fall away as his eyes focus on the screen. His reflection eventually fades away and is replaced with Vox’s face that he remembers fondly.
‘Well, there’s my darling doe…’
He could pretend that Vox is there and it’s just them. No hotel, no obligations, just them on their time. Hands moving away from the carpet, Alastor places them on either side of the screen. Vox’s face flashing that smile that made his heart stutter in the best way. Alastor swears he can feel the heat coming from the other, even if his hands tell him the unresponsive TV is cold.
“Hello…my beloved entertainer…”
And just for a moment, Alastor can find peace in that TV.

El Destino- Chapter One
Miguel x fem! Spider! Reader fanfic
It’s finally here! Chapter one of El Destino! I know I promised it yesterday, but I wasn’t 100% loving it yet. But after rewriting some things and editing it I decided it was ready to be seen!!!
In the photo, I wanted to give the color scheme of the spider outfit.
My Spanish is no where near perfect so I had to rely a bit on Spanish Dict. (waaay better than google translate.) I also apologize for any grammatical mistakes I missed.

Nueva York- Earth 3030
The chatter of people and the noise of the coffee machine blurred from the 24-year-old woman as she stared aimlessly at her computer screen. Her gaze kept moving from her work to her phone every time she heard it make a buzz. Rolling her eyes, she turned it on silent and flipped it over, determined to focus on her work and not on some guy she barely knew.
You slumped back against your chair, gaze now, staring at the popcorn ceiling. No amount of coffee would make your mind focus on the tasks that had an impending deadline. Suddenly, a figure approached you and placed a coffee on the table.
“Here.” Your gaze moved toward the woman standing in front of you.
“Aw, thanks, Michelle, that’s sweet of you. The next drink is on me.”
“Y/n, if we go out for drinks. I’m paying. How else can I impress my future sister-in-law.” Michelle chuckled as she waited for you to gather your things. You then walked out of the cafe and onto the humid streets of Nueva York.
“Girl, you’re my best friend. You don’t have to impress me. Though I think you and my brother are a cute couple, I’ll never understand what you see in him. He’s such a dork. You better not remove your last name once you tie the knot.” You grab your sunglasses and put them on. The summer sun of Nueva York was always brutal.
“I’ll still be Officer Moreno. But L/N is such a nice name too! I’m still going to take it.” Michelle smiles down at you. She was a tall woman. Almost 5 inches taller than you. You thought you were tall at 5’ 8’.” But her brother didn’t mind since he was 6’ 6.” You both entered the main building of Alchemex, where your brother worked.
You made it to his office after passing through the front desk and the annoying security checks. Right before walking in, you both jump in fright from a small explosion in the room.
“Liam?!”
“Honey?!”
You rush inside the office to see the man in question laughing as he wipes away the black smoke from his goggles. You let out a long breath, relief that he was alright. Michelle rushed to her fiance’s side.
“I’m fine. Just a little misstep in my experiment.” Liam cupped her cheek, grazing his thumb softly against her skin to ease her worries. Michelle pinched his cheek hard before giving him a quick kiss on the lips.
“You had me and your sister worried. Be more careful next time!”
“I’ll try my best. But being an Alchemex scientist means taking those risks! Breaking the barrier of our knowledge of the universe!”
“Dork.” You rolled your eyes at your annoying brother, which earned a chuckle from Michelle.
“Hey! At least I’m contributing something to society. All you do is write.” Liam whined as he began to clean up his mess.
“I’m a journalist! I work for the Nueva York Times! I should report your ass and your stupid projects. But I’m a nice sister.” You scoffed, offended by his comment.
“If you say anything to the public, my job will be on the line!” Liam grew more upset than annoyed as Michelle got between the L/N siblings to stop bickering. You rolled your eyes.
“You know one thing you lack in the intellect department, Liam? It’s Sarcasm.” You stopped laughing, knowing you had pulled one of his triggers.
Thankfully Michelle was there to calm him down. Unbeknownst to anyone in the room, a small spider squeezed through a crack in the ceiling. Its gaze went in multiple directions, looking for its victim. It took less than a second for its gaze to lock down on you as it descended. The silver and light blue spider glistened against the ceiling lights, sparkling like a diamond. It landed on your shoulder before it made its way to its destination.
“Well, I was going to tell you both over dinner tonight. It seems now is better.” Michelle spoke up, which brought the L/n sibling’s full attention.
“What is it, Mich?” Asked Liam.
“I’m going to be Captain!” Michelle smiled as she jumped in excitement.
“Oh my god! That’s amazing, Michelle!” You said, excited for your best friend.
“I’m so proud of you, Mich!” Liam brings her into a large hug.
“’ I’m finally going to bring change to the Nueva York police force!”
“Well, I’m done here! Let’s celebrate!” said Liam as he finished cleaning his mess.
After enjoying dinner with your brother and best friend, you separate ways with them, letting the couple celebrate the rest of the night alone. A sigh of disappointment left you as you reached the steps to your apartment, not wanting the night to end.
You scoffed as your keys slipped and fell to the ground. As you leaned down to pick them up, a scream left your lips when you noticed a spider on your hand. You flicked it off, but not before being bit by the nasty creature.
You rushed into your apartment, no longer wanting to gain the public’s attention with your small outburst. You rushed to the kitchen sink to clean the wound. It stung slightly when you touched it, so you quickly rubbed antibiotic cream, not wanting to get an infection. After the chaos, you turn on the TV as background noise as you get ready for bed.
The news was always playing in your apartment, not just because you were a journalist but because it was safe to know what was happening in the city. You will forever love Nueva York, but it wasn’t the safest city. Always a new story about a villain wreaking havoc and how the police force could barely keep the city safe. Thankfully, Michelle would hopefully change that as she moves up the ranks in the police force. You settle into bed, turning off your lights as you fall asleep to the sound of the news.
“Y/n! Why are you asleep! I need this draft by 5!” Your body jolts up from your desk, scared by the sudden intrusion. You fumble with the papers on your desk before passing one to your editor.
“Here. I have it done already.” The older man standing before you eyes narrow slightly before snatching the paper from you.
“You’re lucky that you’re so good at your job, y/n. If you weren't, I would have fired you for sleeping at work!”
“It won’t happen again, sir. I promise.” You heard a scoff come from him before he slammed your office door.
A loud sigh escapes from your lips, slumping back into your chair. You didn’t understand why, but you slept horribly last night. All night the entire room either felt scorching hot or ice cold. Not to mention how your figure looked in the mirror. You have always been in top shape, maintaining a mostly healthy diet and going on runs every other day. But you looked slightly tighter in your ass and thighs. Not to mention how amazing your hair looked after waking up. Usually, it looks like crap, and it takes you half an hour or more to make it look perfect.
However, those differences in your body were not the weirdest thing that happened this morning. Every other minute your hand would be stuck to a surface or an object. You wouldn’t think twice about how you stuck to your ceiling before coming into work late, which your boss was also on your ass about earlier.
Maybe your tired mind was playing tricks on you. But logic seemed to have flown out the window as your mind kept coming up with reasons to say this WAS happening to you. You kept picking up your phone, about to call your brother, but you immediately hung up every time you pressed the call button. What would happen if you told your brother? Alchemex would definitely find out. They would want to run all kinds of tests on you. The thought brought chills down your spine. You also thought about calling Michelle. But thought against it. Even though she was your best friend, you felt she wouldn’t understand.
It was only 1 in the afternoon, but you felt like the day had already ended. Since all your important deadlines are done, you’ll leave early to run errands.
A long groan escapes you, finally done with your last errand, as you walk out of the grocery store, walking back home. As you walked back, the hairs on your neck stood up as if someone had been watching you since you left work. However, every time you check your surroundings, no one was there. Obviously, your lack of sleep has made you delusional.
You decide to turn down an alleyway as a shortcut to your apartment. You thought it would be fine since it was still light out. How wrong you were.
“Give me your wallet.” A voice said from behind you. You felt something pointing into your back.
“Dude, I’m really having a shitty day today. I don’t need you making it worse.”
“I don’t care if your day was amazing or bad. Just give me your wallet, lady!” The man grew annoyed as the thing pointing in your back dug deeper into your spine. You took a chance and turned around.
“Do you really think I will give up my wallet when you don’t even have a gun?”
“Hey! This is a gun! And I’ll use it if you don’t give me your money!” The man said as he pointed whatever object from his jacket.
“Bye now.” You wave them off before continuing on your way.
“Hey!” He goes to grab you, but you quickly turn around, and now he was stuck to the wall?
He tries to move but is trapped in a white sticky substance. You were just as confused as the man. However, it was your chance to escape.
As soon as you turned around, you collided against something hard before falling on your ass to the ground. Looking up, you see a large man in a red and blue suit that completely covers him from head to toe.
This day was getting too weird as you slowly rose to your feet. Before the man could speak, you began to run. However, you didn’t get far as you felt something wrap around you, pulling you straight back to the intimidating figure. Looking down, you see a red rope substance around your waist. You ripped it off, about to run again, when he pulled you back in again.
“Would you let me go!” You yell out in annoyance.
“I told you, you shouldn’t have snuck up on her.” A small digital figure appears next to the man. It appeared to be a woman dressed in a fur coat with heart-shaped glasses hanging off the edge of her nose as she chuckled. The man groaned in frustration.
“How else could I have done it?”
“Umm, hello? Can you tell me what’s going on? Or, more importantly, who the hell are you?”
“My name is Miguel O’Hara. I’m from another dimension. I lead an elite force dedicated to the security of the multiverse… Why are you ignoring me?!”
A grin comes to your lips as you laugh. “Where are the cameras? I must be on some kind of prank show.”
“What? This is not a prank show. I’m from another universe. In my universe, I am Spiderman. In your universe, you are Spiderman. Or, well, Spider Woman.”
“Spider-what?”
“Dios mio! Were you bitten by a spider?” The man before you grew more annoyed, which made you chuckle.
“I was. Last night.”
“That was a radioactive spider genetically mutated in your universe’s Alchemex.”
“How did you..”
“It’s a canon event in every spider-person story. Obviously, yours just started.”
“What’s a canon event?”
“You know what. This will explain everything. Lyla, do the thing.” The small woman appeared next to the man again.
“Huh? What thing?”
“W-What do you mean, ‘What thing? The information explaining thing!” He looks at the small woman as if she should know what he was talking about.
You held your hand to your mouth, trying to hide your laughter. Your entire surrounding turned dark as a series of webs with images appeared.
“What is this?” You gazed at your surroundings, amazed by the sight.
“This is the arachnoid humanoid holy verse.”
“Catchy name.” You chuckle.
“Yeah, ok, it’s a stupid name. But it’s factually accurate. Going back to your question about a canon event. It’s a moment in every spider person’s life, every time. Some are good, some bad, some very bad. However, you don’t need to think about any of that yet. You’re just starting out.” The surroundings changed back just as soon as you were getting curious about what he was saying.
“So, why are you here then?” You ask, curious about the figure before you. You looked him over again. He was in the shape of his life; if only you could see what he was hiding behind that mask.
“I wasn’t planning on coming here. But you popped up on my scanner, so I checked it out. But I came too early. You barely have uncovered your powers yet.” He says as he fiddles with the futuristic watch on his wrist. A large orange portal splits open in thin air. The man turns around and walks into it, disappearing.
“W-wait!” You rushed over to stop him, but you were sucked into the portal before you could stop. The entire thing came all at once, which made your head dizzy. As quick as you entered, you stumbled out onto the floor.
“Ow.” You rubbed your head before standing up. You finally register your surroundings. It was spectacular.
Floors were going in all directions with a person or thing in a red and blue suit walking by as they gave you strange looks as if you had a third eye.
“Where am I?”
A woman in a red and black suit with yellow goggles approaches you.
“You must be new. My name is Jessica Drew. And you?” She smiled.
“Y/n L/n?”
“Well, Y/n, welcome to spider society.”

hi. I'm a huge fan of your work. I've been following you since before sad sack even came out. I was around for the very first teasers of it. I am very young... definitely i was too young to be reading sad sack when I was. but I'm an adult now so whatever, harm done. I'm a novelist. you are really one of my greatest artistic inspirations.
I guess my question that I want to say is... how do you finish stories? I have a million started but I always get this horrible voice in my head telling me that it's not worth it to finish, that the next project I do will be better, but I know I'm at the point in my journey where I need to just get something done. how do you do it? do I just need time? do I need to get a little older? do I need to keep failing until I succeed?
thank you so much for everything that you've done, your art brings me so much joy and comfort. many, many times your comics have made me feel like I wasn't alone. please keep doing what you're doing, because I love it, just for me lol.
Hey! This has sat in my inbox for a while i know, to be completely honest it just never feels great to know someone was exposed to my adult work before they should have been, and it can feel like im walking a tenuous line in acknowledging that it happens and not... Doing something about it? Though im not sure what that something would be. I will take your word for it that you are an adult now and as you said, the harm was already done. Im not happy about it but nothing can be done about it now i guess.
I do sincerely appreciate your kind words about mine and Nick's work and I'm glad it's brought you joy, and i hope you were always able to enjoy it with a critical eye too.
As for your question, there is truly no easy answer there or A to B guide that will get you past this hurdle - some people work on years and years on the same thing before releasing it, other's just pump their first work to get it out of the way and while it may not be great, at least its done. Regardless, once you get one thing finished, you will come to realize that its easy to finish others, too. I think regardless of what you do though, you will never look back on your very first work and be happy with it, so its my personal opinion that while you should do your best, you should make peace with the fact that it will not be your best, and that's okay.
As for what I would personally do? Pick something, something short, and something fresh, dont start with that massive story you've been workshopping for 15 years. Start with something you can whip up in a year at the VERY most, something you are currently passionate about, something that interests you right this second. Draft it as quick as you can so you know how it starts and how it ends, and then set yourself up with a schedule to finish it - you don't have to abide by it 100%, but if you give yourself all the time in the world to work on it, you might end up taking up your own offer. If you have a deadline, even if made up, you will have to force yourself to move on when you come across something you aren't entirely happy with instead of becoming stuck on it for days, frustrated, and then proceeding to abandon it as you might have done before. I repeat - you will never be entirely happy with how your first work turns out. So focus on being passionate, proud, and absolutely committed to making it happen at all, instead.
I hope this has helped you at all, im both sorry that you ended up looking at our nasty stuff before you should have and also, again, genuinely glad you find inspiration in it now as a grown person. I wish you the best of luck in your journey as a creator!

Like We Were Somewhere Else
Tumblr media
Visiting them at work, either with lunch or just to spend the afternoon with them as they try to get things done. Whether they actually get things done, or things devolve into flirting/romantic gestures is up to you.
part of my Valentine's Day prompts requested by anon | word count: 0.9k | warnings: none!
Some days, you absolutely loved your job. You loved the people you worked with, you enjoyed the work that you got paid to do, you relished the hours spent in your office overlooking the ocean.
But there were other days – days like today – where you absolutely hated it.
Work kept piling on top of itself, your to-do list now pages long instead of the usual one to two. Your calendar was filled with deadlines that you needed to reach – deadlines that used to be of no concern that were now looming because your management decided to fire half of your coworkers two weeks ago under the guise of ‘restructuring.’ It was to save money; everyone knew it but the company wouldn’t dare admit it. Just the same old corporate bullshit.
You are hunched over your computer, one hand tangled in your hair as your eyes glance over the spreadsheets in front of you. A heavy sigh escapes your chest as you try to concentrate. But, if you were being honest, your focus had waned significantly since the start of the day.
A chime sounds from your phone, the noise echoing around the office. A quick glance at the notification on the screen tells of a text waiting for you to read. You unlock your cell, navigating to the message and for the first time that day, a smile appears on your face at the sight of your boyfriend Matt’s name in the banner at the top of your screen.
Hey darling. Would like to get lunch with me?
Your work is abandoned as your fingers moving swiftly to send a reply.
I would love to. But I can’t really leave the office right now. Lots of work to do.
I understand. What if I bring lunch to you, how does that sound?
Perfect.
You place your phone face down on the desk, your attention returning to the computer in front of you, hoping to get some work done in the minutes between now and Matt’s arrival. Your concentration is abysmal at best, but the instant you hear a soft knock on your door, you find that you don’t care. Matt pokes his head in, that dimpled smile appearing on his face the instant his eyes land on you.
“Hi darling,” he says, walking into your office and shutting the door behind him.
“Hi,” you reply, instantly getting up from your desk to walk to him and wrap your arms around his frame. One of his hands presses against the small of your back, pulling your close until you pull back. He leans his head down, giving you a small kiss on the lips before the two of you fully separate.
You look down to his hands, expecting to see a plastic bag of takeout from one of the restaurants close by. Instead, Matt is holding your old picnic basket, a bouquet of flower sticking out from one end.
“What’s all this?” you ask, looking back to him.
“It sounded like you were having a rough day so I thought an impromptu indoor picnic might cheer you up,” he explains, his heat turning a slightly darker shade of pink. You don’t let him wallow in that embarrassment for too long, your smile widening.
“That sounds amazing.” He mirrors your grin, setting the basket down on your desk.
“Do you still have a blanket in here?”
“You know I do,” you reply, moving around your desk to one of the deeper drawers. “I swear they turn up the air conditioner full blast in here during the summer. Makes this place an icebox.”
Matt lets out a small chuckle at your muttered complaint. You spread the blanket out on the floor by the window, settling onto the plush fabric as you watch Matt’s hands reach into the picnic basket and retrieve multiple items from the inside.
He went all out for you, bringing an assortment of classic picnic delicacies – sandwiches, fruit, cheese, sweets, even a small bottle of wine.
“Not sure if I should drink alcohol today,” you tease once Matt finally lowers himself onto the floor with you, somehow tucking his large frame underneath him.
“Why not live a little dangerously,” he jokes, holding out the glass of rosé to you. You hesitate for a split second before taking the cup from his grasp. You lean your head against his shoulder, looking down over the array of food Matt brought with him.
“Hey,” you whisper, looking up towards him, his eyes connecting with yours. “Thank you. No one has ever done something like this for me.”
Matt smiles down at you before pressing a soft kiss onto your forehead.
“Of course,” he murmurs. “You’re worth it.”
His gentle assurance relaxes you even further, your first unburdened breath rushing through you. The two of you sit on the floor, eating and talking, taking in the time spent together like you were in a secluded meadow instead of behind the four walls of your office.
What should have been a brief lunch break quickly devolves. The hours pass, and the two of you are still sitting on the floor. You head has found its way into Matt’s lap, his hand gently stroking your hair. You are at least managing to appear productive, your phone by your side as you occasionally reply to emails. But that is few and far in between because you are too busy soaking in the moment.
Today was a stark reminder that if you had Matt by your side, it didn’t matter where you were. You could be anywhere in the world and you would be happy. Just as long as he was there with you.

Burnout - Uramichi x Kikaku
A/N: I love my brain... love it so.. so much...
Summary: Kikaku, after pulling a much too stressful all nighter after all nighter, ended up collapsing and landing his face right on Uramichi's lovely man boobs! Kikaku then decides to just go along with it, soon having Uramichi show another side of him, a side he thankfully couldn't go up against.
Tw: Swears, fluff, sorta kidnapping?
A/N: Not really much romance but uh... it hints at it a bit?
Tumblr media
“Uramichi! Hey!” Derekida exclaimed as he jogged over.
Uramichi’s eyes lost all life in them.
“Damn it.”
“So I was wondering if you-”
“Ura… Urami.. Mnmnmmmgh…”
The 2 turned to the walking corpse that was heading over to Uramichi, mumbling something incoherent. The zombie swayed and Uramichi stepped forward but stopped when the said zombie aggressively regained his balance.
The zombie swayed once more anyway, making Uramichi take another step, but the zombie did the exact same thing as before.
Yet another sway and Derekida sweatdropped as Uramichi just continued to walk before freezing up at the wide-eyed expression of clear exhaustion the zombie had.
“Ura… michi…”
“Y-yes?”
Before he could say more, Kikaku fell forward, his face landing right on Uramichi’s pecs. Kikaku groaned, staying still and not bothering to move as he closed his eyes and seemed to doze off.
“Kikaku? A-are you ok? Kikaku?”
“WELL!”
Uramichi flinched from the sudden shout of the director, forgetting that he was even there for a moment.
“I was about to say if you can go and help the merchandise crew out! I guess he really came to you, I just knew you were the right person, Uramichi-chan!”
“Chan??”
“Bye now!”
Uramichi looked down at Kikaku. It looked like he was barely able to stand… In fact, Kikaku is actually taller than him by 3 cm, so he shouldn’t be able to rest his head on his chest unless he was… falling…
Uramichi quickly caught Kikaku, but that was a trap as Kikaku jumped into his arms, and clung to him like some koala. Uramichi grunted, lips thinning at the sudden weight.
“Kikaku…?”
“Carry me to the room. I don’t think I can walk anymore… so fucking tired…”
“Right…”
Poor Uramichi…….
Anyway!
As Uramichi carried this zombified koala, he noticed that the man took it as a time to take a quick nap. Kikaku unconsciously snuggled up at the crook of URamichi’s neck, soft breaths tickling Uramichi a bit.
A door to his heart creaked open just a bit.
-
“Kikaku, we’re here.”
“Nngh… Ok…”
Kikaku didn’t move for a moment, but then sighed and pulled away from the warmth Uramichi provided.
“Right so… I need you to draw something… And.. ugh.. Sorry… I can’t really focus at the moment..”
“It’s fine.. Is the deadline for tomorrow again?”
“Yyyep! And I need you to draw something with the macarons. Bonjour Man was a hit but I have no idea how to make that stupid face or the bird or whatever to be incorporated in this. We have Kumao. We have Usao. We don’t have you. Just… just come up with something. Whatever you do will be great…”
“Kikaku…”
A door to his heart creaked open a bit more.
“Do you like saying my name or something? Should I get the tape?”
Uramichi guided Kikaku to a seat and went to get some paper and grab a pen since nobody had pencils around anymore. He sat back down willingly (what a shocker!) and started to draw his literal nightmare from a while back. Kotori-san inside the macaron.
Odd enough, people seem to adore his night terrors, so might as well go for it-
-
“I finished… the drawing..”
Uramichi looked over, seeing Kikaku with his head in his arms, asleep.
“Kikaku, I finished the drawing. Please wake up.”
“Hm? Right… kay..”
Kikaku struggled to finish up whatever he had to do, and Uramichi decided to actually stay in his spot.
“So uh… after this do you… After this, are you going to head home and um.. sleep?”
Kikaku paused for a moment before cranking his head slowly to stare at Uramichi. The gymnast shivered under the former’s gaze.
“Sleep? What sleep? I’m going to bang this out early so I can have a day off while still being paid. So go on. Run away.”
Uramichi jumped, pursing his lips and getting up hesitantly. Kikaku simply looked back at his computer, typing and clicking. Uramichi took a few slow steps, heart beating rapidly as he expected to hear the sound of duct tape behind him. Instead, he just heard more clicking. He stopped by the door for a moment, hand already turning the knob enough to push it to open. He was free to leave and yet…
“How much work do you have left?” Uramichi asked, not turning to look at his coworker.
“An hour worth of agony.” Kikaku mindlessly answered, though not as aggressively as he usually spoke.
“Does the work save automatically?”
“With how often the boss forgets to save anything he comes across, I have to.”
Uramichi let go of the knob and spun around, speeding over and grabbing Kikaku’s wrists. He pulled the latter’s hands away from the keyboard with his left hand, the other hand going to the mouse and logging out.
“What the hell are you doing?! I just had-”
Kikaku froze, looking up at Uramichi’s face to see a blank stare. The one he often saw when Usahara angered him. Shockingly, he never actually saw it being used towards him before. If anything, it was the other way around. Being the target of the stare made him shiver. It was out of place. Disturbing.
He pursed his lips, letting the strength in his arms decrease and not bothering to fight back as Uramichi turned off the computer and stacked some of his stuff. Seeing that he wasn’t fighting back anymore, Uramichi let go and placed the stuff into a bag Kikaku had under the table.
Putting the strap over his head to make it cross over his chest, he turned to Kikaku and picked him up, holding him the exact way he had before.
“Woah-! Hey! What the actual fuck are you thinking?! I ain’t some kid-”
Uramichi’s free hand pressed Kikaku’s head onto his shoulder, making the tired man’s breath hitch.
“It’s late, you should sleep.”
“I don’t need to-”
“Sleep.”
That blank stare made Kikaku freeze up again. He stopped resisting once more as he closed his eyes, feeling Uramichi walk out of the room.
It was weird to see this side of the gym rat. Uramichi was usually more on the timid side around him, almost like a puppy whenever he wasn’t. Sometimes he wished Uramichi wouldn’t act like he’s walking on eggshells around him.
He was doing that now. Kikaku got his wish. And as much as some people would regret asking for this… he couldn’t help but feel his stomach fill with butterflies and his cheeks warm. He buried his face in the crook of Uramichi’s neck, which made the latter flinch and shiver. He could feel Kikaku’s lips forming a smile before he started to chuckle.
“But even when he speaks his mind, he’s still jumpy.”
Kikaku let out a long exhale before his breaths evened out at a slow pace. Uramichi shivered once more with the breaths that hit his neck, but ignored it as he walked the pathway to his apartment.
“I think this is the calmest I’ve seen him.” He looked at Kikaku for a moment, the corners of his lips tugging upwards. “It would be nice to see this more often.”
-
Uramichi laid Kikaku on his bed, quickly removing all of the Kotori dolls nearby that Kikaku had forcefully sent. Kikaku had woken up a bit, seeing Uramichi above him as he reached for yet another one of those nightmarish birds. His hand shot up, grabbing onto Uramichi’s shirt and pulling him down beside him, too close but… somehow, not to their discomfort.
It wasn’t that Kikaku wasn’t able to control himself, it was more like he passed delusional at this point. It was comfortably warm when Uramichi was carrying him compared to the currently cold bed. He knew that Uramichi was going to take out one of his futons soon. He knew he had some when he had overheard Usahara talking about the sleepover he had with Uramichi once with Kumatani, who had said that he went against his will.
He was perfectly able to prevent this situation from happening. The situation of them lying side by side on a twin sized bed. Well, sort of. It if wasn’t for Uramichi’s reflexes that made him hold himself up, he would’ve landed on Kikaku.
“Ignore the stupid birds. I’m tired.”
“T-that’s fine, but I need to-”
It was clear that his stern attitude was gone now. It seems reality had got to him on the walk to the apartment. Something about that left a bad taste in Kikaku’s mouth.
“I wish he stood his ground with me more. Do I really have to do everything?”
Kikaku shuffled to the side a bit, yanking Uramichi’s arm so that he hit the mattress. From there, Kikaku shuffled a bit closer until his forehead rested against Uramichi’s pecs. It was tempting to move even closer, as his pecs were magnificent.
“I should pretend to trip sometime.”
Uramichi attempted to get away, but Kikaku quickly intertwined their legs and put an arm around him before staring at Uramichi intensely with wide eyes.
“You said I should sleep. So let me sleep.”
Uramichi flinched before letting out a sigh in defeat, curling forward a bit.
“S-sweet dreams…”
“... you too..”
....................................
A/N: Well... that was fun. I finished another one, yay. It's not that romantic, it never really is. I'll make something that actually screams romance at one point though, I swear. When? No clue. But it'll happen one day. My brain will make sure it does each time I look back and the idea will eventually haunt my dreams like Kotori does to Uramichi.

Heart of the Cards // CynoNari
Fandom: Genshin Impact Ship: CynoNari
Summary: Tighnari secretly learns how to play Genius Invokation TCG to surprise Cyno.
Tumblr media
“This card uses one dice. Now, I have an even number of dice and I can use a charge attack. If I add the damage bonus from the weapon and quicken, you will lose six health. How much will the dendro resonance improve that number? On the other hand, I can’t use that or else I’ll lose my charge attack.” Tighnari thought over the different cards he could use.
He and Collei were on a rare visit to Sumeru City to buy supplies and equipment for the Forest Rangers. They took a break in Puspa Café for lunch and a quick round of Genius Invokation. Tighnari bought a few Genius Invokation cards during their trip. He watched Cyno play but he didn’t have an interest in the game himself. It was only recently that he decided to learn the rules so he could play with Cyno.
“This food card gives me a shield. It looks like the student has become the teacher.” Collei corrected him and tapped the card attached to her character. A proud grin brightened her face. Tighnari wasn’t bothered by the slight arrogance in her voice because he knew that she was merely excited to teach him something. It was usually the reverse. When Cyno first brought her to Avidya Forest, she had been too shy to speak openly to him like she did now. He was glad that her past didn’t loom over as much anymore.
The city was noisy but he found the small outing fun. The only thing that would’ve made it better was if Cyno joined them. Even if he wasn’t busy, Tighnari couldn’t invite him or else he would learn about his surprise. He planned to improve his deck before he played his first game with him. Cyno played the game often and he wanted to give him a challenge when they played together.
After they finished their game, Tighnari placed their deck boxes back in their shopping bags and went to the counter to pay for their food. The door opened and he recognized the person’s footsteps even before he turned towards them. He smiled and waved to Cyno. “Hey, Cyno. Are you on patrol or is this your lunch break? It’s a shame that we just missed each other since Collei and I must return to Gandharva Ville soon. We could’ve shared a meal.”
“Kaveh asked me to help him carry a crate of wine back to his house. I was surprised that he ordered so much considering his financial situation. However, the order is under Alhaitham’s name.” Cyno explained. He reached out and lightly brushed his bangs from his green eyes. “Have you been sleeping well, Nari? There are bags under your eyes.”
“The deadline for my research paper is coming up so I had to pull a few all-nighters. The Akademiya might’ve been a nightmare sometimes but it helped me prepare for weeks like this.” He said with a small chuckle. He hoped that Cyno couldn’t tell that he was lying. Beyond being practised at interrogating people, they knew each other well. If Cyno suspected anything, he didn’t mention it.
“Can you wait a few minutes? I’ll escort you and Collei back home after I help Kaveh. Thieves target people who carry a lot of bags and travel in small groups. Knowing you, you would focus on protecting Collei in that situation and you might get hurt. Your bags must be heavy for you to carry.” He offered and reached out his hand to take the bag Tighnari held. Before he could, Tighnari hid it behind his back.
“I didn’t buy much so I’ll be fine.” He shook his head. Cyno’s confusion grew when he saw the way he blushed and avoided his gaze. “It’s sweet of you to worry about us but there’s no need. I’ve been on supply trips before. On the handful of times that someone tried to attack me, I defeated them. I can protect Collei.”
Tighnari took Cyno’s hand and began to walk backwards. He didn’t need to take his hand to pull him with him because Cyno was already drawn to his warmth. He followed his lead and they stopped beneath the staircase of the café. Out of sight from the other customers, they stepped closer to each other until his body covered his. He leaned against the wall and smiled at Cyno.
“Will you have a few days free soon? I have a surprise for you. I can’t tell you what it is but, knowing you, it’ll fill an entire weekend.” His wording was vague but his suggestive smile spoke more. As Cyno tried to think of what his surprise could be, Tighnari stole a quick kiss from him. Any thought he had left his mind. “Bye, Cyno. Send a letter to tell me when you’ll be free so I can prepare my surprise for that night.”
Tighnari grinned at him as he walked around him to return to his table. He looked over his shoulder and saw Cyno’s surprised expression. It wasn’t often someone could make the General Mahamatra speechless. Cyno was certain that Tighnari was the only one.
After Tighnari and Collei left, Cyno waited for Kaveh to arrive. He passed the time with a cup of coffee and thought what Tighnari’s surprise could be. Cyno was surprised and happy to see him in the city because it was rare for him to leave the rainforest. No matter how difficult a long distance relationship could be, he didn’t mind the extra effort as long as he could see his smile before sleeping.
They hadn’t been able to spend the night together in a while and that raised his anticipation for Tighnari’s surprise. Neither their birthday nor anniversary were coming soon and he didn’t have many hints on what it could be. The bag that he hid from him could be linked to his surprise. He came to the city to buy supplies for the Forest Rangers so his surprise could be related to that.
Kaveh eventually arrived and Cyno finished his drink. “Hey, Kaveh. The café seems to be popular today because I ran into Tighnari here a few minutes ago.”
“Is he still here? I was going to give you a bottle to thank you for helping me and Tighnari can have one too. This is on Alhaitham’s tab and he won’t miss a bottle or two.” He glanced around the café until Cyno shook his head and told him that Tighnari already left. “You should walk Tighnari back home. I can carry the crates on my own.”
“I already gave you my word that I would help you. Tighnari would be angry with me if I abandoned a friend.” Cyno picked up the box of wine waiting for them, stopping any further argument from Kaveh. Despite the reassurance, a part of Kaveh felt guilty. He could read people’s emotions easily and knew how much Cyno loved Tighnari.
They left the café and made their way down the street. Their conversation drifted to their plans. Cyno said, “I’m going to meet Tighnari this weekend. He has a surprise for me. I don’t know what it could be but I should bring a bottle of wine if it’s to celebrate something. It must be important for him to reserve the entire weekend for our date.”
“The entire weekend? I wonder if it has anything to do with the fabric and shop that he asked me about.” Kaveh mused to himself. He realized that he accidentally spoke out loud when Cyno turned his head sharply to him. Cyno didn’t immediately ask him what it could be but his curiosity was easy to see, especially for someone like Kaveh.
“He ordered a special fabric to make lingerie. It’s purple.”
Tumblr media
“You’re home early, Cyno. I haven’t finished cooking dinner so I hope you’re not too hungry. I’m making biryani.” Tighnari said and lit the candles around his room. He preferred to use lanterns because they were brighter but Collei asked to borrow them for the night. Though, the softer lighting of the room could be better for the night he planned with Cyno.
Excitement and happiness for the night filled Tighnari. They would have dinner and then play a few rounds of Genius Invocation. He had more practise with the card game and he was confident that he could give him a fun challenge. Tighnari walked back to the pot that he left to simmer. “After we eat, we can enjoy my surprise. If you want to see it sooner, can you prepare the padisarah petals?”
Cyno moved behind him and wrapped his arms around his waist. He rested his cheek onto his shoulder and his lips tickled his skin. Tighnari giggled and leaned back against his strong chest. He reached up to tenderly stroke his soft, silver hair. He loved his embrace where he was surrounded by his warmth, the scent of desert plants and the sound of his heartbeat.
As much as he wanted to indulge in the moment, he was also eager for his surprise. “Kissing me won’t convince me to give you the surprise early. Though, you can try as much as you want.”
“I only want to hold you. Give me a few minutes and then I’ll pluck the padisarahs for you.” He gently squeezed him in his arms. “I missed you.”
Tighnari understood the feelings behind his words all too well. He put out the fire and then slipped out of his arms. As he turned away from him, Cyno caught a glimpse of Tighnari’s smile. The soft curve of his lips promised him more. Cyno had to admit that he was looking forward to his surprise ever since he spoke with Kaveh. Tighnari had asked Kaveh where he could buy sheer fabric that he could use to make lingerie. He had imagined what he could be wearing beneath his clothes several times.
“We can go a round before dinner.” Tighnari sat on the carpet next to his bed. The room was dimly lit yet Cyno was still able to see each detail in his eyes. The green hues in his eyes appeared to waver as if he was nervous. He reached for something beneath his bed and his tail swayed languidly. He pulled out a familiar box and set it between them. Tighnari took a deep breath and drew a card from the box. “Cyno, I challenge you to a duel!”
A long silence stretched between them as Tighnari waited for his reply. He waited for the enthusiastic smile that Cyno would have whenever he played Genius Invokation. They stared at each other. The question of who was more surprised, neither could answer. On the other hand, Tighnari was the first to break their gaze. His hand dropped and heat rose onto his cheeks.
“Isn’t that what the characters say before they play Genius Invokation TCG? I probably got the phase wrong since I’m not an expert like you. That was embarrassing.” Tighnari laughed awkwardly. Had he made a fool of himself? “I learned how the rules so we can play together.”
“You did?” When Tighnari would’ve shoved the TCG box back under his bed, Cyno quickly crossed the room and knelt in front of him. He placed his hand over Tighnari’s on the box. “I didn’t think you liked Genius Invokation. I never seen you play and you always tell Collei that she should focus on her studies instead of card games.”
“Card games are a pasttime for me, at best. You’re not interested in plants the same way I am but you still listen to my lectures. I thought I should try one of your hobbies too. It’ll be something we can do together. Do you like my surprise? You’re awfully quiet.” Tighnari finally met his gaze. Cyno could spend hours listening to him ramble about flowers. No matter what they did together, hearing the joy in his voice was enough to make him happy.
Cyno opened his card box and grinned when he saw the character card at the top of his deck. “Me?”
“Don’t look so smug, Cyno. Dendro and electro together is a powerful elemental reaction. If we’re going to duel, you can’t look at my deck or else it’ll be cheating.” Cyno nodded in agreement and added his own comments on the card strategy. Relief washed over Tighnari as he listened to his explanation. “I was worried that you wouldn’t like my surprise because of how quiet you were before.”
“I would love anything you give me, Nari.” Cyno reassurance was followed by a brief pause. “You surprised me. Honestly, I was expecting something else. Kaveh told me that you bought lingerie. This surprise is almost better. I’ll have two ways to keep you up all night.”
“Kaveh can’t keep a secret, can he?” Tighnari sighed. He set the cards aside and crawled closer to him until they were only inches apart. “Do you want both surprises? We can make a bet. For each round of Genius Invokation you can beat me, I’ll take off one piece of clothes and wear that lingerie. I have to warn you that it won’t be easy defeating my deck.”
“I like a challenge.” Cyno accepted without hesitation.

ESSAY: YOON HYUNSUK | masterlist
g!n reader x hyunsuk
warnings: suggestive
wc: 972
a/n: it's 3:30 am and i'm deep in a hyunsuk brainrot someone save me
Tumblr media
“babe.”
“baby.”
“babeee.”
you can hear the pout in hyunsuk’s voice as you type away on your computer, trying to get your essay finished before the deadline tonight. you know your professor doesn’t give extensions, but you had put off doing the work all week and here you are, reaping the consequences; a half-written essay and a very clingy hyunsuk.
“baby, i’m bored,” you hear hyunsuk whine as he rests his head on your shoulder, the words barely making it to your ears as you work on autopilot,  fingers moving nonstop against your keyboard.
“i have to get this essay done, hyunsuk,” you speak, placing a quick kiss on his forehead before going back to work, your back pressed against the wall as you sit on his bed. “i’ll hang out with you when i’m done.”
you hear hyunsuk hum, but he doesn’t respond to your statement, simply wrapping his arms around your waist and burying his face in your neck. a few moments of silence pass as you write your essay, the only sound coming from the clicking of your laptop keys and the light huffs of breath against your neck. it’s so silent that you think maybe hyunsuk has even fallen asleep while waiting for you.
that is until you feel hyunsuk’s mischievous lips graze against the sensitive skin of your neck, your entire body shivering in surprise before he presses a light kiss under your ear, his lips trailing up the side of your jaw, nibbling lightly with every peck.
It’s definitely hard to focus now. you know exactly what game hyunsuk is trying to play and you aren't going to let him win.
you try your best to keep a blank face as he kisses up and down your neck, despite the butterflies in your stomach and your head growing foggy with each distracting kiss. you feel hyunsuk begin to rub his thumb in circles on your hip, his kisses dipping lower and lower to the collar of the hoodie you were wearing (which just so happened to be his).
he catches you off guard as he bites down a little harder, a gasp leaving your lips at the sudden sensation. you feel the vibration of hyunsuk’s laugh against your skin and you turn to glare at him. “stop trying to distract me.”
you see hyunsuk pretend to act intimidated by your very non-intimidating glare before a smile crossed his face. “i’ll stop… if you give me an actual kiss.”
you deadpan him at his reply, rolling your eyes. “i know what you’re trying to do, hyunsuk.”
you watch as hyunsuk’s eyes widen in fake shock at your accusation, placing his hand over his heart. “i’m not trying to do anything! i just want a simple kiss from my loving significant other.”
a playful grin sits on his lips and you give him one long stare before pulling him in by his collar, placing a light kiss against his lips — nothing more than a peck — and quickly pulling away. “there. now let me work.”
“i said an actual kiss! one that’s longer than 2 seconds.”
“who makes up the criteria for an “actual kiss”?”
“i do. now c’mere.”
hyunsuk opens his arms and leans back for you to climb into his lap and as much as you wanted to focus on your work, he does look really cuddly and soft with his messy hair flopped into his eyes and a small smile brightening his face. there was no way you could resist.
you sigh as you move your laptop off to the side, shuffling to plop yourself in his lap, his arms wrapping around you and pulling you flush against him. “can i kiss you now?”
you nod and he wastes no time in capturing your lips into a soft kiss, his arms wrapped around you like you are fine china - the most precious thing to him in the entire world. your hands are rested on his chest and you can feel his heartbeat through his shirt, the rhythm lulling you in like a trance as your lips dance together.
you feel his warm tongue slide across your bottom lip, silently asking for entrance that you gladly permit, sighing contently as your tongues lazily moved against each other.
you don’t know when you begin to lose track of time as he pulls you closer against his body, breathing heavily into each other’s mouths. the kiss was feverish, feeling his hips subtly roll into yours as his hands squeeze your hips, moving you against him.
your body feels like it’s on fire as hyunsuk gently runs his hands up and down your sides, shifting them under the hoodie to make contact with your bare skin, his cold rings making you shiver slightly. you can’t think straight anymore, your mind clouded by hyunsuk’s hands, lips, and scent.
a quiet ding from your laptop startles you both as you pull away, quickly looking over to see that you had got a notification from your professor, warning you that your (very much unfinished) essay was due in less than 2 hours.
“oh shit!” you spring off of hyunsuk’s lap with no hesitation, grabbing your laptop, hyunsuk’s weak protests fading into the background.
“you can’t just leave me like this,” hyunsuk pouts, scooting behind you to wrap his arms around your waist, resting his chin on your shoulder.
“i can and i will. this essay is worth 20% of my grade,” you simply speak before beginning to type again.
all hyunsuk does is sigh, press a light kiss against the shell of your ear, and whisper, “you’re all mine once that essay is done.” before leaving the room to get snacks — and the tone of his voice leaves your brain unable to focus on anything other than him for the rest of the night.

Thank you so much for the response. It feels so isolating to not be able to actually do anything. I hate it. Online tips are shit like "make a to-do list" or "set deadlines" or "tackle the easy tasks first". And I'm just lost, because if it was that easy, I wouldn't be here (meaning my situation, not your page lmao.) I grew up struggling with this, and I never knew it had a name until very recently. I just always thought I was lazy (and I'm guilty of still thinking I am.) The most irritating part is the medication was supposed to help, and I was just given it with nothing else - no support, or referral for someone to talk to. Not even a fucking pamphlet on ADHD. So I just keep increasing the dose in hopes that it'll help. I don't know if it has, I don't know if it hasn't.
Nonetheless, thank you so much for the tips. I'll test some out tomorrow! Best of luck to you too! I'll be checking back to see if anyone drops some tips on the future <3
i totally understand what you mean. i've dealt with pretty severe adhd literally my entire life, but i was (not to sound like a bitch lol) smart enough when i was younger that nothing really required that much focus/effort. but getting to college and becoming an adult? when things started getting harder and requiring real productivity and effort? ohhh my entire life fell to pieces right before my eyes lmaoo, things got real bad real quick
i've never been medicated for my adhd, but i saw a therapist for a bit and all of her advice for coping with adhd was shit like "make a calendar" and "set a timer for yourself" which just. absolutely does not work for me lmao, so i totally feel you on the whole it seems like nothing helps thing. it made me feel like complete shit to just never be able to function correctly, so you are far from alone in feelings like that <3
best advice i can give you is to keep throwing things at the wall and see what sticks. try every stupid strategy you think of that might help, and there's a chance one will someday. nothing much else you can do lol

Part 2: Cosine
Carrillo’s seniority made it easy to arrange a helicopter to take them to Bogotá in quick time and with few questions asked. They were still reluctant to officially call it in and gave themselves a deadline of the following morning. That would make it at least 24 hours Javi had been missing, but they couldn’t think about that yet and preferred to see it more as an insurance policy.
Once back in Bogotá, they crossed the threshold of Javi’s apartment and shut the door behind them. The place seemed smaller now that it was just the two of them, as though the walls were closing in and there was no way out.
They both tried to ignore it in favour of looking for any clues instead. Although much like the absence of Javi in his own apartment, the negative space was the problem. The way that things which were unsaid or unaddressed were there nonetheless. It was the implied intimacy of Carrillo knowing his way around and of Steve and Javi having spare keys to each other’s apartments. It was the way the three of them had avoided each other since that fateful night, yet it was clearly all they could think about. It was the way Steve and Carrillo refused to talk about the worst-case scenario for Javi because then they would have to admit they had thought about it in the first place.
However, there was no sign that Javi had been here recently. His bed was still made, there were no messages or missed calls on his machine, and it didn’t look like anyone had broken in or taken anything. It was like the man had simply vanished.
Carrillo took two glass tumblers out of the drinks cabinet and filled them with whatever bottle Javier already had open. He slid one across the kitchen counter towards Steve, who eyed it with great suspicion.
“Don’t worry, I’m not poisoning you.”
Steve pinned Carrillo with a look of intense irritation but accepted the drink with a reluctant thanks.
Whilst Steve nursed his glass, Carrillo pulled his phone out of his pocket, dipped into Javi’s bedroom and closed the door.
Steve wasn’t intentionally listening, but it was hard not to be overheard in this place when the walls were so thin. From what he did catch, it was clear Carrillo was telling his wife he wouldn’t be home tonight.
Steve brought the tumbler to his mouth, suddenly hyper-aware of what else had been pressed against it only hours ago. And in Carrillo’s office several weeks before that. He tipped his head back and downed the lot in one.
Carrillo’s phone call was brief, and he soon returned to the kitchen. As far as Steve was concerned, he’d kept his face and body language neutral, but apparently not from the way that Carrillo was now glaring at him. A look that managed to convey My marriage is off-limits, you don’t know the first thing about our arrangement, and at least I still have a wife.
It worked for them, and that’s what mattered. Not that Carrillo had intended to become entangled with two DEA agents like this, but then he didn’t plan for lots of things around here. Given the intensity of their line of employment, he figured it was an occupational hazard. It didn’t mean he loved Juliana any less, and he didn’t have to explain that to anyone, least of all Murphy.
Whatever the look was had the desired effect as Steve immediately backed off and made to refill his glass. “So, what’s the plan, now?”
“We’ll give the place another once-over, just in case. And then we wait.”
“That’s it? We wait?”
“Yes, we wait. Unless you’ve got any better ideas?”
Of course, Steve didn’t. And he hated that he was deferring to Carrillo’s judgement so much as if he wasn’t a fucking police officer himself. “Fine. We wait.”
------------------------------------------------------
It was well past midnight by the time they came to an impasse, their second search of the apartment throwing up nothing. They admitted defeat after they resorted to checking through Javi’s wardrobe and drawers as though he or any clues were hiding in them.
“I think we’re best just staying put here, for now. See if he turns up over the next few hours. If not, it’s time to call your boss.”
Steve gave a resigned sigh and sat down on the edge of Javi’s bed, resting his head on the heel of his hand. “Makes sense.”
He bent down to untie his laces and kicked off his boots.
“What are you doing?”
“What does it look like?”
“You live upstairs.”
“Javi isn’t gonna turn up there though, is he? If you’re staying put here, then so am I.”
“You’ve gotta be shitting me. You have a phone, I presume?”
Steve rose from the bed with a scoff and turned to face Carrillo, who looked just as, if not more, murderous than back in Medellín.
“Nice try icing me out again.”
“If only.”
They stood dangerously close once again, Steve lowering his head just as Carrillo raised his, allowing them to square up to each other despite their significant height difference.
“Oh yeah, just try it.”
“Don’t tempt me.”
“Do your worst.”
Their lips were tantalisingly close, swallowing each other’s breath as their noses bumped together now that there was no knife to act as a barrier.
Neither wanted to be the one to instigate what they knew to be annoyingly inevitable by now. But somehow, they both surrendered at once, closing the gap and triggering an explosion of ferocious kisses, clashing tongues and harsh lip bites that left a metallic taste in their wake. There was nothing tender about it as they clawed at each other’s clothes, roughly shoving the other against Javi’s furniture as they undressed.
Jolts of arousal and guilt shot through each man as they ended up on Javi’s bed, distracting themselves from imagining the worst about the owner of the sheets they were now tangled up in.
They settled into a wrestling match, one pinning the other down by the wrists before overpowering him and reversing the position. Each battling to be in charge, much like their joint encounter with Javi. In the end, they compromised by lying on their sides. Large calloused palms seized around each other’s cocks, neither showing mercy as they groped, tugged and squeezed.
Carrillo laved his tongue along the expanse of Steve’s slender neck before clamping his teeth down and making Steve shiver and squirm.
For several blissful seconds, Steve couldn't react and merely leaned into it. His eyelids fluttered shut, and his head rolled back as he let the sensation consume him. Until he remembered who was the cause of it.
He came to his senses and retaliated by sinking his teeth into the thick muscle of Carrillo’s shoulder with a snarl. He sucked at the skin until it reddened beneath him, not caring that he had no doubt crossed a line by leaving a mark.
To Steve’s surprise, Carrillo groaned at the contact and twitched in his palm. So, he did it again, deepening the colour of the bruise until it was almost purple and glossy with saliva in the dim light of the bedroom. The primal noises he was drawing out of Carrillo were like nothing Steve had ever heard from him before, not even when witnessing him with Javi.
With Steve distracted by that curious thought, Carrillo took advantage and increased the speed of his strokes with one hand whilst clutching at Steve’s hair with the other.
“You’re such an arrogant pain in the ass,” he ground out through gritted teeth.
Steve gasped and shuddered at the lethal combination of Carrillo’s words and actions. “Takes one to know one.”
He tried to disguise how fucking good Carrillo’s fingers felt pulling on his scalp. But not well enough as Carrillo just did it harder, tipping Steve’s head back with force and eliciting a symphony of lascivious sounds from his throat. That was when it hit Steve why he had been so fascinated watching Carrillo work earlier that night. A fucked up thought he couldn’t analyse in the here and now, so he pushed it down and focused on the pleasure/pain of Carrillo’s ministrations instead.
“Guess I’ll have to shove my cock down your throat again to make you stop talking. Or maybe reacquaint you with my knife.”
Steve’s entire body spasmed at the mention of the knife, and there was no way Carrillo hadn’t noticed. He closed his eyes, drawing in calming breaths as he felt a familiar pressure in his balls, not wanting to give Carrillo the satisfaction. Not yet, anyway.
But Carrillo kept going. “Such a dark horse, Murphy. I always knew I could corrupt you if I had the chance. I wonder what else you’d let me do to you?”
To finally give voice to the fantasy Carrillo had harboured ever since Steve showed up in Colombia was intoxicating. Obviously, he hadn’t expected it to play out quite like this, and Javier had been the catalyst. But there was a satisfying sense of vindication about all of it.
Steve was breathless and overwhelmed by Carrillo’s sinful words, but he didn’t want this to be over. It was time to give Carrillo a taste of his own medicine.
“And what would you let me do to you, hmm? Don’t think I didn’t see the way you were lookin’ at my gun tonight.”
“I don’t know what you mean,” Carrillo rasped with an uncharacteristic lack of conviction.
“Is that right?” Before he considered what he was doing, Steve moved off the bed to retrieve his jeans from the long-forgotten pile of clothes on the floor. He fished out his gun and resumed his place.
Carrillo carried an unreadable expression, but he accepted the gun Steve held out for him. Their fingers briefly connected in the process; an act that made them more nervous than the weapon in their hands. Carrillo took his time to ensure the safety was on and handed it back without saying a word.
Steve stared down at his palm, grappling with the notion of what was about to happen. What he was about to do. The incident with the knife was impromptu, in the open air, and they were both fully clothed. This was different; it was deliberate, premeditated, intimate. It was Carrillo putting his full trust in Steve. Something Steve had accepted might never happen. His ego was too fragile to admit how much it bothered him, but this blew past insecurities out of the water.
It was tempting to run away and lock himself in his apartment for the foreseeable. But he stepped outside his head for a second and paid attention to his body. To the way that his cock throbbed, and his stomach knotted with a new kind of arousal. Something undiscovered and unknown, but something that had probably laid dormant for longer than he realised. He looked up at Carrillo and saw the same hunger in his eyes.
So, Steve dived in head first, covering Carrillo’s form with his own, the gun placed on the sheets next to them for the time being. Steve kissed, licked and nipped his way up and down Carrillo’s torso. He had a newly found confidence zipping through him as he adjusted the speed, placement and pressure depending on Carrillo’s reactions. For a man that was usually stoic to the extreme, it was a power trip to loosen up the Colonel’s buttons like this.
When it was clear they both needed more, Steve gripped the gun in his right hand, checking once more that the safety was still on. He sat up so that he was straddling Carrillo’s thighs, the anticipation evident from the piercing gaze they shared, all the way to their heaving chests and flushed cheeks.
Steve used Carrillo’s forehead as a starting point. He slowly dragged the gun’s muzzle down the bridge of Carrillo’s nose, brushing over his Cupid’s bow and mouth but not lingering - not yet. He paused at his chin, where he increased the pressure and made Carrillo’s Adam’s apple bob again, much like in his office earlier that day. An event that may as well have been months ago for all that had happened since.
He continued his path down Carrillo’s chest and abdomen until he met the dark trail of hairs above his pubic bone.
Carrillo’s cock brushed against Steve’s wrist, causing him to push up against the cold metal of the gun. He let out a low grunt at the friction and badly wanted to do it again.
But Steve was too quick, and his free hand stilled Carrillo’s hips with one simple but effective motion. “Not yet.”
Carrillo’s eyes darkened at Steve’s whispered words that oozed with a quiet sense of authority, unsure whether to be impressed or threatened by the monster he had apparently helped create.
Steve so often expended unnecessary energy with the way he went about things. From what Carrillo had witnessed and what Javier had told him, he knew that Steve was handy with his fists, not afraid to throw his weight around to get what he wanted. Aggression for the sake of aggression, which wasn’t Carrillo’s style. He preferred more efficient methods. So, to see Steve exercise restraint and patience was more arousing than he cared to admit.
Steve re-tread his steps along Carrillo’s torso, branching left then right. Teasing each nipple in turn, like he was making a depraved sign of the cross on Carrillo’s body. Steve wasn’t usually a praying man, but figured there were exceptions to every rule.
In spite of his best efforts to conceal it, Carrillo trembled, every scrape of the gun raising goosebumps, his fists clenching into the sheets by the time Steve lifted it back up to his face.
He traced patterns over Carrillo’s cheeks before painting his lips with the muzzle. Top lip first, then bottom, where Steve waited for Carrillo to take the bait.
And Carrillo took it greedily, sucking it into his mouth with abandon, and this time when he bucked his hips, Steve didn’t stop him. Their grinding matched the rhythm of Carrillo’s mouth, the sweat coating their bodies adding to the slip-and-slide. The way Carrillo’s lips parted around the weapon planting ideas in both men’s minds that only spurred them on further.
Steve eventually removed the gun from Carrillo’s mouth, unable and unwilling to explain being hit by a wave of irrational jealousy over an inanimate object. Instead, he quickly replaced it with his lips, tongue, and teeth, the reticence from earlier no more. But Carrillo was as far gone as Steve and made no objection to the heated frenzy they were wrapped up in.
One of Carrillo’s hands found its way back to Steve’s hair and tugged. “I want you face down on the bed.”
The authoritative timbre of Carrillo’s instruction made it impossible for Steve to do anything but comply. Such few words were spoken, but each one was as efficient and controlled as the man behind them.
Steve lay face down on Javi’s sheets, the gun now forgotten on the nightstand. The scent of fabric softener and something undeniably Javi hit him whilst Carrillo temporarily shifted off the mattress. The rumble of a drawer was next, followed by the click of a lid opening and closing.
All Steve could hear was his pulse thudding in his ears and the heavy breaths falling from his mouth. Trepidation mounted as he contemplated Carrillo’s next move. Would he feel the warmth of skin on skin any second now or the cold barrel of a gun? And more to the point, which would he prefer? Right now, he couldn’t say. He just needed Carrillo to do something.
His questions were soon answered when his legs were swiftly parted. A thick finger coated in lube swiped between his cheeks, teasing over his entrance a few times before risking a light nudge.
Steve was almost embarrassed by his reaction to such a ghost touch, his limbs twitching as he moaned into the sheets.
“Look at you, Murphy. Like putty in my hand already. Think you can take it?” As he asked that question, his finger probed further and eased passed a slight resistance.
“You – you know I can.” Steve fought to keep his composure as the pressure increased on his cock trapped against the mattress. It would have been so easy to hump the bed, scratch an itch and move on, but he couldn’t do it. Much like when he had his back against a wall and a knife to his throat, he willed himself to keep still.
“How about another finger?” With one now buried in Steve, he teased in circles with the knuckle of another.
Steve’s fist thumped into the pillow above his head. “Fuck…yes.”
Carrillo halted his movements but didn’t withdraw. “Yes, what?”
Fucker. Absolute fucker. But Steve didn’t voice his annoyance. He let out a humiliating plea into the depths of the mattress, hoping that by burying his face into the sheets, he wouldn’t have to acknowledge what was happening to him.
No sooner had Steve given Carrillo what he wanted than Carrillo returned the favour. A second finger joined the first, stretching Steve out as he pumped back and forth in a steady rhythm. “That’s it, Murphy. Good boy. You take me so well.”
It was those two words again. Two words that forced Steve’s hand to grasp at the pillow and his ass to lift up to meet Carrillo’s fingers. Fuck. He was never going to live this down. He didn’t even know where it was coming from; or why it turned him on this much. Or why, despite his natural instincts to rebel against Carrillo, he not only craved his approval but also got off on his praise.
He couldn’t deal with examining that closer right now, so he flung his hips back harder this time, taking Carrillo by surprise. He did it again and again until he was fucking Carrillo’s fingers as much as Carrillo was fucking him.
Carrillo’s breath was coming in short, shrift bursts as he watched the spectacle below him. There was that thrill again from knowing he had this kind of effect on Murphy. Knowing that for all of his bravado, he wanted to please Carrillo. And a part of Carrillo got off on Murphy’s reaction to being praised too. It was a vicious circle he didn’t understand. So, as usual, it was far easier to compartmentalise and push it to the back of his mind.
He allowed Murphy to have his fun for a while, to give as good as he got because apparently that just seemed to be how things worked between them, no matter how much each man tried to get one over on the other.
That thought led Carrillo’s free hand to still Steve’s hips and position himself between Steve’s legs. He leaned forwards, his arms braced on either side of Steve’s ridiculously long frame, his cock teasing in the same way his fingers did.
Carrillo reached up to run his tongue along the shell of Steve’s ear, biting down on the lobe as Steve practically purred beneath him. “You still all in, Murphy?” he whispered. Another challenge, another gauntlet thrown down just begging to be picked back up again.
And it was one that Steve couldn’t resist. “If you are, I am.”
That was all the confirmation Carrillo needed to plunge forwards, a firm, deep thrust to start off with and gauge Murphy’s reaction.
Steve let out a laboured grunt as though he had just had the air knocked out of his lungs. This was new; not even Javi had done this with him. He and Connie had dabbled with fingers and toys a few times, but that hadn’t been like this. This was all muscles rippling and straining at his back, and balls slapping against his ass. It had been one thing watching Carrillo do this to Javi, but nothing could have prepared him for the force of nature currently pounding him into next week.
Encouraged by Murphy’s vocal enthusiasm, Carrillo didn’t hold back. Not like the way he restrained himself last time. He snapped his hips against Steve’s at a brutal pace, rolling them in firm circles and leaving behind a trail of bite marks.
All Steve could do was lie there and take it, too overwhelmed by new sensations he didn’t even know his body was capable of feeling. It was all so much. Too much. So, he pushed himself off the mattress, taking Carrillo with him.
They re-adjusted themselves but never pulled apart; both now sat up on their knees. It was ridiculous, but it allowed Steve to regain his height advantage. Although that was small mercy compared to the new angle Carrillo had found in this position. It caused Steve’s eyes to roll back in his head and wiped his mind of all thought.
Carrillo clasped Steve’s waist and cock simultaneously, stroking him in time with his thrusts. “Do you know what I told Javier that night once you were done with him?” He didn’t wait for a reply but held still inside of Steve. His hand kept moving, though, the frantic motions aided by streaks of precum glistening along Steve’s length. “I said next time I want to watch.”
“Fuck…” was all Steve could pant as he spasmed in Carrillo’s hold. “He - he’d love that,” he stuttered once Carrillo moved again. “I fucked him against the sink. Made him watch us through the mirror.”
The mental images running through Carrillo’s head were almost enough to make him come on the spot. He was so close now. “Glad our little show inspired you.”
“I told you, s’not my fault if you can’t keep him satisfied…oh fuck!” His little jibe earned him a sharp swat across the ass.
“And I told you, that mouth of yours was gonna get you in trouble.” Carrillo brought his hand down a second and a third time.
Steve bit his lip, swallowing the whine rumbling in his throat because he wasn’t done goading yet despite the hot sting spreading across his cheeks. “Maybe you just need to find a more effective way to shut me up.”
And with that, Carrillo gave Steve’s cock another once-over and lifted his hand to Steve’s face. He smeared his slicked fingers across Steve’s moustache and lips before shoving them into his mouth.
Steve didn’t know which memory to latch on to first; the one of him sucking Carrillo off in his office, the one of him licking Carrillo’s knife, or the one of Carrillo taking Steve’s gun into his mouth. A heady mix of all three combined with jerking himself off and Carrillo filling him up pushed him over the edge.
His free hand felt behind him and dug his nails into any part of Carrillo he could reach, scraping and scratching like a feral cat as he spilt over himself with a strangled groan.
Carrillo upped the ante as he relentlessly fucked into Steve, the grip on his waist enough to leave reminders in the morning. A hand appeared at Carrillo’s mouth, and he took the hint, sucking and licking as though he was a man starved.
It was the final straw as he let out a growl stifled by a vampiric bite into the flesh of Steve’s shoulder. Breaking barriers far beyond the surface of his skin, even if neither of them recognised it.
------------------------------------------------------
They lay spent and breathless, silent and dazed for several minutes before they cleaned up, trying to push down the growing sense of shame that they had done this in Javi’s apartment. In Javi’s bed. When Javi was…well, wherever he was. It felt like a betrayal, although not in the traditional sense. It wasn’t so much that they regretted what they had done, but that they had done it without Javi. He was once again the negative space in the room.
They took turns to shower, the question of sharing never coming up. That would have been a step too far. Although, as they towelled off and put their underwear back on, they both caught the other in the act of staring. But they cleared their throats and continued as though nothing had happened.
Neither of them said anything when they got back into bed, ignoring that Steve had a perfectly decent double bed of his own upstairs. And Steve was also ignoring the fact that his own apartment and double bed hadn’t been the same since Connie left, and he dreaded most nights alone now. The two men still left a respectable distance between themselves, though, to the point where they were practically falling off opposite edges of the mattress.
Steve reached for his jeans on the floor once again. He shuffled around in the pockets until he found what he was looking for, trying to blink away the flashback he was already having of retrieving his gun just like this. The gun that now had traces of Carrillo’s saliva all over it.
He sat back up and pulled a cigarette out of the packet, offering the same to Carrillo.
Carrillo wordlessly took one, prompting Steve to lean over with his lighter. Their eyes briefly met over the flame, Carrillo mumbling his thanks before taking a long drag. The exhale he let out was more a sigh of relief than anything as the much-needed nicotine began to flow into his bloodstream.
Steve retreated to the safety of the other side of the bed to light up. They didn’t talk for several minutes, both lost in their own heads and ensuring to look anywhere but at each other.
“D’you think he’s alive?” Steve didn’t know what possessed him to ask that of all questions, but it slipped out before he could stop himself.
Apparently, Carrillo didn’t know what possessed Steve to ask that, either, and he gave him a withering look that said as much.
“Someone would have found him by now if he wasn’t. They’d have wanted us to know what they did,” he replied in the end.
Not many people knew the mind of a narco quite like Carrillo, and Steve had good reason to trust his judgement beyond his desperate need to cling to hope.
“What we gonna do if he doesn’t show up?”
Carrillo was more intent on savouring his cigarette than answering another of Murphy’s questions, and left him hanging for a moment. “Get some sleep. We’ll figure it out in the morning if we have to.”
To the casual observer, Carrillo’s words might have sounded cold. But even Steve could see the benefit of his pragmatism at a time like this. He could only imagine how much his mind would have spiralled if he had dealt with this alone. It was oddly comforting for Carrillo to refuse to indulge Steve in his anxieties because that wouldn’t help either man. The words Carrillo and comfort in the same sentence were not something Steve ever expected his brain to conjure up, and he wasn’t sure what to make of that.
“Right, yeah, of course,” was all Steve could manage in reply. He flipped the bedside lamp off, plunging the room into darkness, the only light now stemming from the digital clock on the nightstand and the dying embers of Carrillo’s cigarette.
Steve shuffled down beneath the sheets that still smelt strongly of sweat, sex and Javi but stuck rigidly to his small strip of mattress. He didn’t even dare lie on his back, stretch his long legs out, or fidget like he had the tendency to do when he couldn’t sleep, in case he strayed into foreign territory.
He knew Carrillo was still awake as he heard him stubbing out his cigarette in a nearby ashtray. It was followed by the mattress shifting and another deep sigh that had too many possible interpretations for Steve to guess which one was correct. Eventually, all fell still, and Steve couldn’t decide whether he was relieved or disappointed that Carrillo was apparently now asleep.
But that was the thing about stillness; it only took into account what was perceptible on the surface. It didn’t factor in hidden currents that were just as turbulent, if not more so than the visible ones. And what Steve didn’t know was that Carrillo was as wide awake as he was.
Carrillo was used to keeping a level head in a crisis, but even he had to admit he was struggling this time. Not that he could burden Murphy with his concerns. For some reason, he could see why Javier always felt the need to protect his partner. Even now, after Murphy had well and truly rolled around in the dirt with him, Carrillo felt a certain level of responsibility. A responsibility to find Javier but also to protect Murphy in Javier’s absence.
He clung to that reasoning when trying to justify why he had let himself be put in such a vulnerable position tonight. With someone he had always kept at arm’s length. Of course, he only did it to satisfy Murphy’s need for acceptance. Something Javier had been badgering him about for a long time. There couldn’t possibly be more to it than that.
Or at least that’s what he told himself when he slid his leg back into the negative space of the middle of the bed. He wasn’t sure what he was expecting to find, if anything. And for an agonising few seconds, his foot lay stranded in the void.
But just as he was about to withdraw and pretend it was an involuntary action whilst asleep, clammy skin found clammy skin. It was a tentative token of solidarity, and both men would deny it if they acknowledged it. But it was there, and it happened nonetheless.

Deus Ex- Sarif's attack dog (revisited) + Post about how and why this revisit came to be aka some self-reflect (warning: long, ... OMG too long)
During Inktober2022, when I was forced to (as its part of the challenge) post daily, in some point I took a look of my 2022 postings in general. I found that I have taken my blogs title "Sketchbook and doodles" too literal. Almost all my works posted were... are... 1-2 day quick scribbles and clearly unfinished. Except 3. 2 of which were done in 2021 and still fit the 1-2 day filling and one work which I had done while recovering serious health related issue and was forced to focus only on recovery and I kept working on a singular piece the time without thinking about completing the piece itself (as my goal was just to fill the time I was awake and give my brain something else than health to think about) nor being stressed by war, bills, work. And out of those 3 remaining works that last is only one I wouldn’t know how to change, when I open its original file now. Also the other remotely almost passable as closer to complete works were done before war and illness. Why I have rushed like this – where was I hurrying to? Did I believe I improve better if I do more? Yet my best fan-work of 2022 is one I did, when I was physically so weak I was barely able to hold any objects like my pen (even eating and holding a spoon exhausted me to the point I slept hours afterwards), but just invested more time on doing something. Inktober was like a sum of the same – out of the 31 works I did, the best one in my opinion is the one I failed at original day and did bit by bit on other remaining days. Where am I running to? I should sit the f*** down. 2022 is trying to tell me something and I should listen. It 1st broke my graphics card few days in. Started a war close enough month after. Got me ill and almost killed me next month after that and then heatwaved me to heat-sickness soon as I started to do some recovery few months down. Canceled all my long planned events and activities for august and changed what-and-how in September. Only thing it did not cancel was me seeing my favorite band in July (in fact ‘universe’ in particular delayed the gig to be in 2022 from 2020). Maybe by November I should take the darn hint? … I finally sat down after Inktober. Meditated a few days, sitting back against almost ice cold-radiator in a 12C room (the machinery in basement shut itself off again and it was 12C outside as well). So I went back and took one the unfinished works and gave myself no time limits - „It is done, when it is done.” I told myself - “I am not running anywhere, no one gave me deadline. I do this because I love doing stuff like this. Do it like you just hired yourself and want your moneys worth. And above all – have fun. I must have fun again, like when I was 2 and scribbled believing I am greatest painter in the world and for my family I was.” Uh, and the widget in the basement started working after I had found calm in self as well worked on this piece a few days and is stable 21C now. If I’d believe in paranormal, I’d say this house is alive and is catching up my moods. But thanks, house, for the widget being back online. The gas company found no fault in the widget and its systems. Not in spring, when it stopped working 1st time after being just installed, nor this falls … Well… in this region we believe that old houses have their own spirits and personalities after all. Here’s “Sarif’s Attack Dog” as I wanted it to be 8 months ago. Just spent 5 times more time on it. Viewer, who wants, does find flaws in it and could argue about ‘its done, when its done’ part, but it is not about if someone else can do it better, likes it or does not like it or any other 100 problems, but its about how I wanted it to look-like in given moment and gave myself time to do it. Maybe it should be my 2023 years resolution? “Sit the f-down and take my sweet time on all things I do – including fan-art?” Provided 2023 doesn’t try to kill me again, like 2022 did… tehehe? PS! That lone fully completed 2022 fan-art of mine was Francis Pritchard hacking Adams computer in Prague
