I’m sorry to say show Medusa has got me hooked. I would do ANYTHING she tells me to do. My feminism includes women who likes to kill demigods here and there 🤷🏻‍♀️

Jokes aside, Medusa calling her changed appearance and story into a “gift” rather than what it actually was meant to be is very telling of what side she’s on. Another diversion from the books is that this is Medusa as a modern tale of the many women in mythology done wrong, and not the sister of gorgons. It’s frightening, honestly, now that Medusa has taken on this particular form because it makes it harder to separate her into someone to kill.

But also Annabeth!! Coming back to how monsters strike you where you are hurting the most. Annabeth’s belief in her mother in absolute. She loves and worships Athena, and Medusa knows and exploits that. Percy’s belief in his mother is also absolute, but just enough to hear her story, nothing more, nothing less.

Gods and Monsters make their offers. Maybe good, maybe bad, but ALWAYS for the hero to choose.
