Okay okay but... imagine your villain/antagonist F/O just absolutely melting when you kiss them. They may be tough with everyone else but they feel so comfortable with you, they feel like they can let their walls down and be a bit more vulnerable around you, and whenever you kiss them while in that state they just go so soft and hold you with the most tender touch imaginable.

Head canons for Zoldyck siblings reactions to sibling reader hinting they will leave the estate one day and then actually leaving and sibling reader was close to them so 🦄🦄
Omg the drama that could come from this fhgkd thank you for your request! Sorry it took a bit :'3 But I really love this, hope you enjoy what I came up with!
🔯Zoldyck Siblings react to you leaving HCs🔯
Tumblr media
📍Illumi📍
Illumi's reaction would definitely be the strongest, he loves all his siblings to quite the obsessive level, so if he ever caught you hinting at the mere possibility of leaving he would not like that at all.
Not only because you're a very capable assassin, and losing such a powerful family member wouldn't be good for business, but because he worries of what you'll even do in the outside world. "Why would you want to leave? You have everything you can wish for here... we all care about you, while out there people will just use and betray you. Trust your big brother, it's better if you stay with us."
You do trust him, he always has plenty of good advice to give, but you also want to do your own thing, discover yourself, so you don't let him convince you.
Illumi would start keeping closer attention to you, monitoring your movements so he can catch you if you ever try to leave, and persuade you to change your mind.
But of course, he can't be there constantly to ensure you don't run away from the family, he's got work to do.
You leave while he's on one of his longer missions, and once he comes back and learns you've ran away he is really disappointed, though of course he doesn't show it.
He wonders if he'd be able to bring you back, or if you'll ever come home on your own. He tries calling you over and over, but naturally you don't pick up, you know how Illumi is, you can't risk him finding out where you are, or he'll somehow get there in record time and take you back home.
Predictably, Illumi wants to track you down and get you back, at any cost, you can't just run away like that, it's incredibly immature and will only serve to worry everyone.
---
🎮Milluki🎮
You could be more direct at hinting you wanted to leave when it comes to Milluki. He might be somewhat of a mama's boy, but he knows when to keep his thoughts to himself. He's not really a fan of family drama.
When you asked him if he ever had a desire to explore the outside world and try new things, he'd looked at you as if you were some sort of alien. "Nah, I'm good staying here. I guess if there could be some stuff worth checking out, but I can get everything I'm interested in right here, so I don't really care about it... do you?"
You softly admitted you did wonder what was out there, he shrugged and the topic was swiftly put to the side for something you both cared about, like anime or games.
The day you do decide to run away though, Milluki will finally understand the sense of that question. He can't help but wonder if you would've let him in on your plans if he'd answered in some other way.
He wouldn't have tried to stop you, he doesn't really care about keeping his siblings from doing things, unless he's ordered to by his mom or dad.
He does think about you sometimes, and texts you occasionally, though you don't always reply. He's happy whenever you do, though you never talk of your whereabouts.
Milluki is okay with that, and makes sure nobody finds out you two are still occasionally in touch, which honestly isn't too difficult since the others rarely come into his room anyway.
He COULD track you down in no time, but won't do so unless someone asks him to, and so far, nobody has, since Illumi prefers to do things his way.
---
🪀Killua🪀
You were the one who accidentally got Killua interested in seeing more of what the world had to offer. You didn't mean to, but the way his blue eyes would light up every time you told him about cool places and fun things normal people did made it impossible for you to stop talking about it.
He ended up running away even before you did, and that only motivated you even more to do the same. Hearing about how much fun he was having while hanging around with Gon... made you wish for friends too.
When you finally left the estate yourself, and called Killua to let him know, he was really excited, wondering if you'd run into each other at some point. "Hah! Took you long enough! And to think that you've wanted to get out for longer than I have... I'm glad about it though, I wonder if you'll find some friends too, but they certainly won't be as cool as Gon!"
You do eventually meet up with him, and he's thrilled to see you again, though he's a bit nervous about introducing you to Gon, fearing he might get along better with you.
It all goes sort of well in the end... because you and Gon talked lots about Killua and your respective experiences with him. It made the white haired boy really embarrassed, but he was also glad that Gon didn't have the time to know you better.
You catch up with Killua as well, ask him what he's been up to and such, then he asks you if you've heard from the rest of the family as well, and you shake your head. You haven't talked to anyone else... aside from your occasional exchanges with Milluki.
After a day spent together, you part ways once more; the boys have their own goals and you got yours after all. But you promise each other to definitely keep in touch and to meet up some other time.
---
🧸Alluka🧸
Alluka was forbidden from setting foot in the outside world due to her dangerous powers. She was the one person you would've absolutely loved to tell everything about it to.
Unfortunately, since she was constantly kept under surveillance you couldn't do that. You tried once, and your mother immediately scolded you, saying Alluka couldn't get those sorts of ideas in her mind.
When you ran away, you didn't have time to say goodbye to Alluka, and due to her isolation, nobody even bothered to tell her you'd gone off on your own. She just wondered why you'd stopped coming all of a sudden.
She only learns of you escapade once you meet up with Killua the second time, and see her there with him. She is overjoyed to see you again. "Y-y/n!! I'm so happy to see you again! I was so worried something had happened to you... nobody would tell me where you were... you've been well, right?!"
Alluka hugs you tightly and you apologize for disappearing so abruptly. You assure her you've been well, and that you're very happy to see her with Killua... outside of that cursed room at last.
You spend a calm day together with her and Killua, where she tells you all about the fun places he's been taking her to. You can't help but be proud of Killua for what he's doing, and you're also excited for what the future has in store for Alluka.
Predictably, once it's time for goodbyes again, Alluka begs you to stay with them instead, not wanting to lose you another time. She gets a little pouty about it, until Killua explains to her she can't choose what you do with your life.
She accepts those conditions and asks you to at least call, because she does want to hear lots from you from now on.
---
🪭Kalluto🪭
Kalluto never stayed away from his mother for long, so, much like with Illumi, you'd have to be careful about what you talked with him, knowing that if you said anything weird, he was definitely going to tell Kikyo.
He did catch you looking at a few books that could've given you away, but you always managed to change topics, and with Kalluto being the youngest, he didn't really feel like he had the right to press you for information.
Besides, he had no reason to doubt your loyalty to the family given how close to everyone you were, you even took time out of your day to spend time with him! Something his other siblings didn't really do that often.
That's why when you did leave, it hit him the hardest. While Killua's departure had been tough to handle, given how he'd always wanted to be noticed by him, your departure felt like he'd lost the one sibling who truly saw him. Things felt much lonelier for him without you around, and he couldn't even call you, because he didn't have a phone at the time.
Kalluto eventually joins the Phantom Troupe in hopes of getting strong enough to take both you and Killua back to the family. What he wasn't expecting, however, was meeting you during that process.
You're super happy to see him out and about, but he didn't leave the estate for the same reasons as you did. "Why... did you run away? Were you not happy with us? You made mother really upset... you made me upset... you made me feel lonely."
Hearing Kalluto state how he felt when you left does make you feel a bit guilty. You assure him you still love your family, but you realized you'd never be able to do your own thing if you never left the estate.
He struggles to understand your perspective, and still hopes you'll go back home one day, but he doesn't want to argue with you, so he accepts it. He demands for your phone number, so you two can still keep in touch.

Tumblr media
HxH—"United we stand, divided we fall."
Tumblr media
➵Summary:Killua x reader Aladdin Au
➵Warning:mention of theft
➵A/N:certainly you can Killua might be the only one I write with what you ask since it takes a while, but I might do Illumi version but as Headcanons and not full as story but anyway, if you want to read Leorio version you can find it here
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You are known as quite the troublemaker around Agrabah, enough that the loyal family heard about you specifically the young prince Killua, who was curious about you I mean you seem like troubles but then again you seem like a lot of fun? Is that a word he can use? He's certainly unsure especially since he has a maniac for a mother
Killua was outside playing with Mike when suddenly his father came out with some news, some that made him be quite unhappy and even mad
"Killua"
"hm? What is it father?"
"to put it simply and fast, you will be getting engaged"
"I be what?!"
"you will be getting engaged"
"do I even get to choose who? Or most importantly aren't I too young? Why won't Illumi get engaged?!"
"You get to choose among royal people as to why, it's because I want you to be an heir, and Illumi already chose quite the odd fiancé"
"so because of that I'm next what about Milluki?"
"I don't think anybody would want to date him, willingly I mean"
"...you do have a point there, but-"
"no buts Killua, you do that whether you like it or not"
Before Killua could say something Sliva left to drink some wine with his wine
"well crap"
"now what should I do, I don't want to marry some spoiled ass brat, or one who certainly can't do anything else then lay around"
୨⎯ "With you" ⎯୧
Well fuck, you certainly a lesson for future thief to never have a monkey for a companion, you currently running from a shop seller after Abu you monkey took the sellers banana, and well you currently running as fast as you can since well you certainly don't want to be arrested maybe executed
"Abu just why did you have to take that Banana?!"
"hoo hoo hah Banana"
"...yeah you took a very nice banana but why? Also it looks like it's expired"
When you said that Abu spited the banana he had in his mouth
"Well it seems like I was correct"
You eventually lost the sales man and landed on the ground luckily not breaking your feet
"There we g- ouch!"
You bumped onto someone when you looked up it was a man that was dressed in black and red, he had a snake scepter, honestly his turban did a bad job you could see his back hair and a interesting mark on his forehead
"ah I'm so sorry I didn't mean to"
"hm I recognize you, you that thief person aren't you?"
"ahh... maybe?"
"hmmm, you know what I won't tell anybody where you are if you do something for me"
"and what would that be?"
"Just follow me"
"okayyy?"
You follow the man who during the walk introduced himself as Chrollo, eventually you got yourself to what it seems to be a cave
"mind I ask what you want me to do?"
"to put it simply to someone with your knowledge"
"hey!"
"forgive me, inside of the cave there's a golden lamp, I want you to get it for me"
"alright I suppose?"
You walked inside the cave and started looking for the said lamp until you heard a noise, Chrollo was moving a lock blocking the cave
"Hey wait!"
And he blocked it
"you have to be kidding me!"
You sat down on a pile of golden coins with Abu sitting down on your shoulder patting your head, Abu eventually noticed something and started jumping hitting you head
"Ow! Abu what do you want- oh it's a lamp, wait a lamp!"
You ran towards it almost tripping on the coins and gems, you eventually got to it
"hmm I wonder what is so special about it"
you were looking at it from different angles, eventually rubbing it until pink smoke appeared and a genie appeared
"well hello there, my name is Bisky ane and I'm a genie I will grant you 3 wishes but I can't kill anyone, can't make people fall in love and can't bring anyone back from the dead."
"you have quite a loud voice"
"you little! Ehh anyway do you have a first wish?"
"uhh wait what's your name"
"My name is [Y/N] and I wish to get out of here with Abu, my monkey"
"ahh okay then, you wish is my command"
And boom you outside with Bisky floating around you
"alright got the second wish?"
"not yet, you seem to really want me to make them fast"
"yes, that's because after that I'm going on vacation"
"that sounds nice, anyway I'm going to go and continue what I used to do"
"ah is that so, don't forget the lamp"
"I won't"
You returned back home and before anything someone ran into you
"Sorry I didn't mean to"
"it's al- wait aren't you the prince"
"...am I that recognizable?"
"who else has white hair here except you and your father?!"
"you have a good point, anyway could you hide me please?"
"ah sure? Uhh come fast"
Killua followed you and slowly he started to realize, you are the thief he heard about so much, honestly you looked cuter in person, after a few minutes you both alived at your house
"this day seems to be after me"
"hm? What do you mean"
"ah nothing much, anyway what going on?"
"my parents want me to find a fiancé"
"...wait aren't you still a kid"
"Royalty stuff plus they want me to be the heir"
"ah, alright then"
"and you ran off because you don't want that?"
"Yeah I did"
"trust me you won't be able to hide here for too long"
"you think I don't know that?"
"how am I supposed to know, trust me I know barely anything outside of stealing"
"You don't!?"
"no?! Fun fact you highness, our knowledge is far lower then yours"
"Alright let's stop yelling"
"I agree"
"so what am I supposed to do?"
"go back"
"what?! You nuts?!"
"no I'm not, think about it maybe just maybe one of those people will be nice just go back and see"
"ugh, alright I guess"
"great"
After that Killua left and returned, honestly he probably already chose his fiancé sadly the said person isn't a royalty, and as to you, you absolutely regret letting him go oh I think I forgot to mention you LOVED the prince dearly
"well that's interesting"
"holy shit! You scared me"
"sorry, I'm quite curious who's that?"
"Prince Killua he's one of the royalty, and may I say he's"
"cool?"
"amazing! He got those blue eyes and adorable smile, and his white hair"
"well sorry to say one of my rules said I can't make anybody fall in love with you"
"true... Wait but there is something else"
"hm? What would it be"
"Bisky right? I wish to become royalty"
"...oh you are quite sly, but anyway you wish is my command"
And it happened you got quite fancy clothing very fit for royalty and Bisky also changed into what it seems her human clothes with clothes you would assume would be for right hand woman or man
"well let's let Agrabah know about the arrival of the princess/prince Sanad"
"yeah let's do that"
୨⎯ "With Killua"⎯୧
I was sitting on a podium with my family, according to them few royalty were going to show up and have a little parade to introduce themselves, I was getting bored until the arrival of a parade full of elephants and a song sung by a girl that looked my age, on a top was a person whp according to the girl it was princess/prince Sanad
Prince Ali Song-by Will Smith
After the parade, I could talk to one of the royalty and was surprising to few people that I chose Sanad, while talking they told me to go out into my balcony at exactly midnight
୨⎯ "Midnight"⎯୧
Just as princesses/prince Sanad said I went outside and saw them but on a flying carpet?! They held their hand out and helped me get into the carpet, and it went flying around Agrabah
A Whole New World-Song by Zayn and Zhavia Ward
After that we arrived back onto my balcony and I couldn't help but laugh, after that they looked a bit upset while thinking before dropping a bomb on me
"I'm not actually royalty nor is my name Sanad"
"Wait then who are you?"
"[Y/N] the thief"
"that's even better!"
"Huh?!"
"it's quite odd to say for royalty like me, but I liked you as a thief now I find out the person I l also started liking is the same person"
"that made no sense"
"I know now shush, now [Y/N] will you do me the honour and let me become you fiancé?"
"wait that about your parents"
"don't worry about them I'll deal with them"
And Killua did as he said he begged his parents to let you become his fiancé and they said yes, after that you had your last wish for Bisky to become a full human and it was granted but not before one little part of Chrollo being banished, why? Well during your fun with Killua he tried to encourage Killua parents to let him become a king but well that didn't work, and you finally lived happily ever after with Killua as your fiancé.

hi! 1 & 12 for choose violence game, if its okay to ask
hi, yes it's totally okay to ask!
1. Oh god, it could be any of them, honestly. I see a lot of UwU Killua, but also there's a ton of really great Killua too. I'm going with Gon since we never get to hear his inner thoughts. There's a tendency in fandom to go really extreme with him either as The Sweetest Most Innocent Boy In The World or Selfish 8ft Monster Who Hurt Killua. I don't see him as either, and even in my own writing I've had people misinterpret him as being dumb for the sake of it, or an alpha bro type when in reality, he's got the mother (father?) of all abandonment issues. This is the kid that went out to see what's so great about smoking bc his dad left to get a pack of cigarettes(someone funnier than me made this comparison and i forget who). Gon is Complex. His morality is a little weird. He loses his arms like it's a hobby. Anyway. Yeah, Gon is my pick for 1.
12. Illumiiiiii. I love Illumi, but this won't be in defense of him (I don't even think he's unpopular). Something about him makes my brain go brrrr. He is The Worst and here is why I love him:
1) a fantastic villain. We don't even know who he is until his big reveal in the exam arc when we find out Why Gittarackur has been in disguise this entire time. He's got those big, empty shark eyes. He's an assassin and yet he walks around in weird, green, puffy sleeved outfits when it would clearly be more practical to dress in literally any other way. He hardly emotes until He Does, at which point he becomes Terrifying to behold.
2) he's the kid that Silva and Kikyo fucked up first. Look, that Speaks To Me as an only child gifted kid burnout. Illumi is their firstborn, but he's not the heir, and he's Very Good at what he does. Was he born with the right temperament, or was it beaten out of him? We don't get that info, but I think it's fucking fascinating, and even more so when you consider that Milluki must have been the overcorrection of whatever was done to Illumi to make him the way he is. Was there any point where they looked at this perfect assassin and were like, "...we might have messed him up a little" ? Was he told to have a hand in Killua's upbringing, or did he take that on by choice? The Implications of his childhood and that of the rest of the Zoldycks are some of the most interesting in the series to me.
3) he's a hypocrite! He's delusional! Mr. Assassins Don't Have Friends went and got engaged to a magician clown? Illumi is so delulu for his entire conversation with Hisoka where he assumes he is the person Killua loves most and it makes me choke on my coffee every single time. He's removed from reality, which is a charming and horrifying trait to have, and it has endless au potential.
So far I've only written him as The Worst Person Killua Knows, but can you imagine au Illumi as the most embarrassing older brother? Illumi showing up while Killua has Gon over after school and thinking he killed it because he just dabbed like the kids do, and Killua is hoping the ground will open up and swallow him bc his big brother Did Not just do that in front of his crush? Illumi bringing his awful, creepy boyfriend to An Important Zoldyck Function and not understanding (or caring) when they manage to clear the room because their combined vibes are just too rancid?
I love Illumi. I don't want to see him succeed. I do not think he has a healthy relationship with any of his siblings. He is Not a good person in the series, and it makes him so fun to watch. Hisoka makes my skin crawl, but I could watch 8 hours of Illumi failing at human interaction.
This came out longer than I intended, whoops. Thanks for the ask!

✨Killudust Headcanons✨
— ☆ author’s note: i’m so happy i was able to properly formulate and finish these hdcs when i had the free time to do so. i just can’t help but to have fun with this rarepair ship it’s so funny but cute! so yeah, please enjoy if you’re into rarepairs just as much as i am ♡︎
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
• The silver-haired heir is a huge hopeless romantic for her.
• Killua has a particular past-time of his that involves collecting gold dust girl merch and body pillows.
• This guy reads self-insert “reader x Gold Dust Girl” fics made by other fans on a daily basis and saves the best ones on his personal archive list.
• He also happens to run a Gold Dust Girl fan account and labeled himself as her “official number 1 fanboy”.
• He gets made fun of by Milluki for collecting every accessible Gold Dust Girl figurine out there, but Killua isn’t affected by his words since his older brother is a much bigger hardcore figurine fanatic.
• Killua usually calls the golden girl by another name since her original one is way too long to say.
• He doesn’t really see himself calling her “Gold Dust Girl” all the time.
• It’s way too long to say, but he also thinks that the name sounds too formal, like a description or a label of some kind.
• He also believes that her labeled name would ruin their shared moments together and would kill the vibes that they’ll be having.
• So instead of calling her by her original name, Killua would make up cute short ones so it won’t be too long or basic to say.
• He could care less if anyone else calls her “Gold Dust Girl” because he believes everyone else should call her that.
• Only he has the right to call her with nicknames because she chose HIM as her interest and him alone.
• Expect the silver-haired boy to act all proud and cocky by that fact alone whenever he brings it up multiple times to Gon and the others.
• It took him a bit of time to think of some nicknames for her since he really wanted something special for her but couldn’t decide between two of them.
• After many hours of thinking, he finally decided to call her “Goldie” as her main cute name.
• He also thought of “Princess” as well as “Princess Goldie” to make it more charming for her so he’d use them on the side.
• He believes these names are worthy of being used on someone as exceptional and perfect as her since they sound adorable and short.
• Not too complicated but not too flashy.
• He feels very proud of coming up with these.
• Just don’t tell him that he did a good job or else the zoldyck boy in love will cockily explain to you in a full five-page essay on how he came up with them.
• At first glance, Goldie is perceived as a silent and shy girl.
• One good thing that she’s especially good at is helping anyone with financial problems since all you have to do is wash her to get at least 500g of gold particles.
• Killua would be delighted to help her in this situation (he thankfully doesn’t get the chance to do that however).
• Goldie is a girl with a few words.
• She’s the type of person you won’t see talk, but the people who know her will understand exactly what she means by her gestures and expressions.
• Killua will be the one starting the conversations they’ll be having.
• While he engages, Goldie would always smile at what he’s saying and laughs whenever he makes his awful corny jokes.
• She’ll always nod and express her questions or answers by using facial expressions or her hands, and Killua will always figure out what she means and answer her right away.
• Since she’s an NPC card, her vocabulary is pretty limited, but despite that inconvenience, she still has some kind of self-awareness.
• This would explain her expressive expressions in everything that Killua says and why she seems quiet all the time from a stranger’s point of view.
• Killua won’t mind her quietness because he finds that charming and mysterious about her.
• He doesn’t like loud people with lots of temper like his mother.
• He prefers the opposite: someone who doesn’t nag, is calm and is especially sweet.
• He particularly enjoys angering the bodyguard guarding the gates of her mansion by regularly coming in to grab Goldie and leave the place. The current back-and-forth visits to her house always give Killua a good laugh since the bodyguard can never keep up with him.
• The silver-haired boy is either causing trouble for the bodyguard to show the man just how much of a lousy job he’s doing, or if he’s just doing all of this to impress Goldie. Both would be acceptable.
• The ideal date for these two would be at a cafe.
• Being comfortable around each other is Killua’s first priority, so taking her to a quiet coffee shop with sweets and drinks would be the ideal place for both of them.
• They’d be lovingly sharing a sweet drink and cake while listening to the cafe’s pleasant melody songs.
• Killua won’t care when the date will start or finish: he WILL clear out an hour or two to take her to the mall.
• He always chooses her outfits for her and explains afterward why buying clothes for her NEEDS to be a part of every date.
• She needs to get new clothes instead of always wearing the same clothing every time he sees her.
• Although his reasoning for the constant change of clothes made some sense, a part of him secretly just wanted to go shopping with her so that she could always look her best wearing the clothes HE chose for her.
• Whenever he’s with Goldie, Killua will start acting in only two possible ways: his fanboyish side and gentlemanly side.
• Killua would mostly get excited when he sees her but will try to show a calm exterior when he meets her for their dates.
• He’ll act like a huge fanboy when imagining how their dates will go out however.
• When the date starts, he’ll act as gentleman-like as possible even though he’ll internally panic and squeal like a little boy seeing their favorite character in real life for the first time.
• However, as much as their relationship looks cozy and sweet at first glance, there are still some downsides to it.
• One of these issues would be her skin.
• A human doesn’t usually have golden shiny skin so whenever the two are hanging around in the numerous towns of the game, the players who take notice of them will all mainly stare at her with bewildered expressions plastered on their faces.
• But Killua will shoo them away.
• And by shooing them away, he’d give them the death stare, which would be enough for the other hunters to run with their tails between their legs.
• He doesn’t mind the constant unwanted attention because he knows he’ll look cool in front of her. He just doesn’t want any onlookers ruining his chances with her.
• Another problem regarding their relationship is that Goldie cannot leave the Greed Island game.
• No matter how many times Killua would make up dating scenarios happening outside of Greed Island, he knows none of it will become true.
• Since Killua used his only chance at taking out a card from the game to help Gon, that meant there would be no other way for Goldie to leave Greed Island.
• Despite that inconvenience though, Killua did not let himself down.
• Every time he enters Greed Island, he always brings things from the outside world with him: things like what he found during his many hunter explorations, souvenirs, photos that he took with his friends and Alluka, pieces of information about what the real world is like, and many more.
• Goldie cannot read nor write (due to being an NPC) which leaves Killua in charge of reading or writing things on her behalf.
• This gives Killua so much to talk about and show to Goldie, that there are no challenging situations or awkward silence to face if they suddenly have nothing to talk about.
• Simply put, Killua is that one lucky fanboy living his dream: spending quality time with his favorite game character.

Warnings: mentions of death
“There's trouble, boss.”
Phinks' voice cut through the chatter of the busy casino. Chrollo didn't look up at first, relaying a few more instructions to Shalnark via text. 'Trouble' wasn't unexpected; as much as Chrollo could plan ahead, human nature could be unpredictable and would usually cause a few bumps in the road when it came to their heists.
“What sort of trouble?” Chrollo asked as he pocketed the cellphone.
“A Zoldyck.”
Ah.... That was a bit more trouble than usual.
Chrollo's gaze followed that of Phinks and Shizuku. Looking down at them from a second balcony stood Illumi, his face devoid of emotion as the black void within his eyes took in the group.
The second Chrollo made eye contact with him, Illumi gestured to his left with a sharp jerk of his head before walking off in the same direction.
“Does he want to fight away from the guests?” Shizuku asked.
“Maybe,” said Chrollo. He began to walk in the direction Illumi had gone, signaling for Shizuku and Phinks to follow. The three of them walked up one of the staircases located to the side. Phinks pulled on the collar of his suit every so often, while Shizuku walked slightly slower due to the heels that she wasn't used to wearing. But Chrollo could sense that the two were anticipating a fight (Phinks likely ready to use it as an excuse to get out of the fancy suit he hated so much).
“But it may not come to a fight with him,” Chrollo told them.
“Don't the Zoldycks hate us?” Phinks asked.
“Silva hates me specifically,” Chrollo corrected, “but Illumi can be reasoned with.”
Phinks snorted a bit at that, but didn't say anything else. Shizuku then asked what Silva Zoldyck had done to the troupe, to which Phinks gave a brief summary of the incident that had happened years prior. A very brief summary, but he knew there was no point in getting into details since Shizuku would forget almost immediately; this wasn't even the first time she had asked.
Perhaps he should have expected that one of the Zoldycks would be present – it was the opening night for this particular high-end gambling hall. But with how stingy the owner had been rumored to be, he would have thought that the price of a Zoldyck assassin as a security guard would have been more than she was willing to spend.
If it was Zeno or Silva there would be no chance of ending things amicably: Zeno was dedicated to his work and wouldn't be moved by a bribe or any words that Chrollo could offer. And Chrollo and Silva shared a very mutual hatred of one another, so a fight would have been inevitable in that case.
But Illumi, while also just as dedicated to his family as his father and grandfather, could be convinced to stand down if Chrollo could name a good enough price and ensure that the Zoldyck name wouldn't be tarnished in any way. The Zoldycks successfully completed every job they took on, but they couldn't be held accountable if their client terminated the contract before they could complete it. It had happened once before, in an instance where a man had hired Illumi to assassinate Pakunoda. Illumi agreed to hold off on going through with the hit for a short while in exchange for twice the amount the man had paid him for and to allow the troupe the time needed to get to the client and release him from the contract.
Though it would be nicer to just get to Illumi's client and kill her off, there was no chance Illumi would allow them to do that while still under his contract. And Illumi would be happier if he was able to leave with twice the amount of jenny he had been promised.
Illumi was waiting at the end of a hall that had fewer people in it, pointedly looking at him before entering into what looked to be a darkened room. Chrollo pulled out his phone to text an order for the troupe to wait as he spoke to Phinks and Shizuku.
“You two wait out here,” he ordered.
Phinks looked as though he wanted to question him on that, but he held his tongue, crossing his arms as he gave a sharp nod in acknowledgment. If Shizuku felt that his actions were questionable, she didn't betray that fact to him.
Leaving the two of them behind, Chrollo made his way to the door Illumi had entered and pulled it open.
This room was darker than the rest of the casino, and without the electric lights that brightened the building and the bodies of the customers that increased the temperature with their own body heat, it was much cooler in the room as well.
It took a few moments for his eyes to adjust to the lack of light, but when they did, he saw that Illumi was leaning against a smaller circular table, toying with one of his needles as he watched Chrollo enter.
“I thought you didn't like the body-guarding jobs,” Chrollo said as the door behind him slowly swung shut.
I owed my brother for his assistance on my last assignment,” Illumi explained, “so I'm filling in for him.”
Chrollo nodded, though he didn't particularly care all that much. Whatever the reason, the presence of a Zoldyck would hinder things. Best to get straight to the point.
“How much are you being paid for this job?” Chrollo asked.
Illumi's eyebrows raised slightly.
“You think you can pay me off?”
“It worked once before.”
“So it did,” Illumi conceded, “but it would start to look suspicious if I accepted your offer too many times, no? It would be a problem if people thought the Zoldycks could be bought out. Our reputation is everything.”
“Well, you can't help it if your client decides that your services aren't needed and lets you go, now can you?”
“Another inexplicable 'termination' with a job that involved the Phantom Troupe?” Illumi asked, “father was annoyed that I did that last time, though he was more annoyed that I took the job in the first place.”
Illumi sighed.
“But again, doing that too often would look strange, and I will not do anything to harm our business reputation.”
“Very few people knew about the previous hit on Pakunoda,” said Chrollo, “there would be few who would notice a particular pattern, and I think the two of us are both inclined to avoid an unnecessary fight if possible.”
“True. Killing you and the rest of your group would take some time. And it wouldn't be worth the amount that woman is offering. Really, she's low-balling us. I don't know what Milluki was thinking when he took this job. Didn't even make her pay upfront.”
“Then we can come to an agreement?” Chrollo asked.
Illumi closed his eyes in thought, his fingers still twirling around that needle. He was considering it.
Chrollo waited in silence. Trying to push Illumi to do one thing was unproductive and could possibly make him decide to fight after all, though he was certain that Illumi was already willing to take him up on the offer since the assassin hadn't sent his needles flying the second Chrollo walked in. Pulling out his phone, Chrollo checked the time: 8:54 PM. He had planned for this particular operation to begin at 9:15. The owner was part of a group that had begun to throttle the livelihood of Meteor City, and tonight she was the host of a party for that group that was taking place in the upper floors while celebrating the successful opening night of her casino. The main purpose was to send a message: kill the group and anyone else in the building so the rest of the world knew not to interfere with the business of his Meteor City. Whatever valuables they collected would just be bonuses for the troupe to divide amongst themselves.
Though Chrollo rarely went back to the city these days, it was beneficial for him if the city still existed. And though he would never admit it out loud, there was of that sentimental feeling of wanting to protect his old home, as harsh and cruel as it had been for him growing up.
Illumi opened his eyes and looked to Chrollo.
“3 billion and I'll leave.”
“That's quite a lot,” said Chrollo, “much more than I paid last time. Why such a steep increase?”
“So it's worth my while.”
Chrollo mulled it for a bit, checking his phone again: 8:57. He certainly had the funds to pay Illumi's price, but it did feel like he was being somewhat taken advantage of in this case. Still keeping an eye on Illumi, Chrollo couldn't help but notice that the assassin seemed to have something else on his mind that he was considering. Then, like he had come to a decision, he sat up a bit straighter as he addressed Chrollo again.
“There's one more thing,” Illumi said.
“Something more than 3 billion jenny, Illumi?”
“Just some time; give me four minutes before you start.”
Chrollo hummed. Illumi didn't need that much time to vacate a building like this. Was it an attempt to set some kind of trap? No, that was unlikely. It would be far too obvious and Illumi wouldn't go to such lengths unless he was being paid to do so. Still, he couldn't help but be a little curious as to what Illumi would need that time for.
“Why four minutes?”
“Personal reasons.”
Ah. He should have sensed something like that would be the answer.
“A lot can happen in even a single minute, Illumi. And you want four?”
“Four minutes is unreasonable?”
“Not enough to end this deal, but I may want you to lower your price a bit.”
“Are you trying to haggle with me?”
Illumi frowned a little when Chrollo smiled at him.
“Maybe just by 60 million or so,” Chrollo said.
“So you'd rather pay two billion, nine hundred and forty million?” Illumi asked, raising an eyebrow.
“It's still more than you'll get if you keep your current contract, correct?”
Chrollo saw the corners of Illumi's mouth turn upwards ever so slightly, a small smirk on his face as he closed his eyes again and considered the offer.
“That's true. Even taking that out I'd still be much better off.”
Chrollo checked the time and found it to be 9:01 PM. If Illumi came to a decision soon the troupe's operation could still go as planned.
“Very well,” Illumi said after a moment of thought, “transfer me the money first.”
With a nod, Chrollo accessed one of his bank accounts through his phone, bringing up the necessary amount and transferring it to the account number Illumi gave him. Within a few minutes, the transaction was completed. Illumi seemed rather pleased with himself, Chrollo noted.
“Perhaps you should stay in here for a moment,” Chrollo said, “Shalnark is upstairs. I can order him to take control of the owner and have her officially fire you. Then there won't be any issues with your family, correct?”
“That won't be necessary,” Illumi answered.
“Oh?”
“I got fired before you got here.”
“..... Excuse me?”
There was a flat tone to Chrollo's voice that made Illumi chuckle as the latter continued “that woman felt like she was wasting her money, but she was pressured to hire one of the Zoldycks at the behest of her guests. Seems to me like she was looking for an excuse to get out of paying the full fee. Apparently I was 'unprofessional'. But I'm glad I caught sight of you, otherwise this evening would have been more of a loss for me.”
Chrollo said nothing at first. Illumi had been careful with his wording, Chrollo realized, and it hadn't occurred to him to ask if Illumi was still under contract.
The funds weren't that important to Chrollo, but he couldn't help but feel rather miffed. Had he known that the assassin was currently out of a job, there wouldn't have been a reason to pay a higher price than normal; Illumi would have been left between going home empty-handed or with whatever Chrollo would have been willing to give him.
But then again, how could he have anticipated that a Zoldyck would have gotten fired?
Realizing that he had been played, Chrollo checked his phone again: 9:07. At least they'd still be able to start on time.
“Your four minutes start now,” he said.
Nodding, Illumi stood from where he'd been leaning against the table. He made his way through the room, past Chrollo and to the door that lead to the hall where Phinks and Shizuku waited.
“Perhaps you could humor me,” Chrollo said as he walked by, “it shouldn't take you four minutes to exit a place like this. What exactly are those personal reasons?”
Illumi chuckled a bit as he placed his hand on the knob.
“I suppose you can see for yourself if you decide to watch me leave.”
With that, Illumi left, the door swinging shut.
Standing alone in the dark room, Chrollo wasn't sure what to make of Illumi's behavior. He was used to the assassin being more straight-forward. He was secretive, yes, but there was something about the way he had acted just now that seemed a bit more.... Playful.
Illumi and Hisoka had known each other before Chrollo had met the long-haired man, and the two had seemed like they were in frequent contact. Perhaps, Chrollo mused, some of Hisoka's less-than-ideal qualities were rubbing off on Illumi.
Phinks and Shizuku approached him immediately after he also exited the room.
“It looked like he was leaving,” Shizuku said, “were you able to talk him down?”
“Yes. It was more expensive than it needed to be, but he'll be leaving shortly,” Chrollo answered as he nodded at her.
“He required four minutes before we began, so we'll be able to stay on schedule,” he continued as he looked at his phone again. 9:08.
The two spiders nodded (though Phinks seemed somewhat disappointed to not have a chance to fight Illumi) and Chrollo updated the rest of the troupe. The three of them slowly began to walk back to the main hall before coming to a stop at one of the balcony's. Below them the crowd had only managed to have grow larger as more people had entered to try their luck in the new gambling hall. For the majority of the crowd it seemed to be more of a pastime as they looked more well-to-do, but there were a few individuals who already appeared to be reaching a point of desperation, sweating nervously while they looked to the indifferent dealers.
A grand clock at the top of the hall showed the time to be nearing 9:10, and they had yet to see Illumi leave the building.
“Why did he want four minutes?” Shizuku asked.
“He wouldn't say,” Chrollo answered her.
“Hm. I wonder what it was,” Shizuku said.
“It seems he wanted to collect some woman before we got started,” Phinks suddenly said.
“Huh?”
Both Chrollo and Shizuku looked to where Phinks was looking. Within the crowd they saw Illumi walking through, accompanied by you. He held your hand as he lead you through the throng of guests, and you were giggling at something he had said while you intertwined your fingers with his. Illumi smiled back at you as he continued to pull you forward.
It was not a sight Chrollo had anticipated, nor was he expecting to see the darkened marks on your neck when he squinted. Marks that could've been made by Illumi's mouth.
Remembering that Illumi had said he'd been terminated for being unprofessional, and suddenly the reason for his firing became clear.
“That's just a civilian, right?” Phinks asked, “what does he want with her?”
“I guess he doesn't want to leave her here to die,” said Shizuku, “that's sweet.”
Chrollo continued to watch as the two of you made it to the other end of the hall. When you were finally out of the crowd, you went to wrap your arm around the one that had been leading you, smiling up at him as you two continued your way to the entrance. There weren't many who could touch one of the Zoldycks like that and live to tell the tale. Phinks was most likely right in his assessment; you weren't anything special. You probably had no idea who the person was that you were so happily walking off with or how dangerous he was.
Illumi said something and smiled at you before the two of you began walking again, but Chrollo didn't miss the little warning glance the assassin had sent in his direction.
As Shizuku and Phinks talked amongst themselves on what all that was about, Chrollo found himself unsure of what to think of this particular turn of events.
Evidently to Illumi, you were worth at least 60 million jenny.
You had come to this event on behalf of your friend Kiki, who had been invited by her cousin who had wanted to spend a milestone birthday at the casino. Places like this had never done much for you; the odds were always stacked in favor of the house and you didn't want to lose your hard-earned cash by gambling it away. You only came to do a favor for your friend, and yet about an hour into the evening, she had left you to chat up someone at the bar, leaving you with a group of people you only vaguely knew in an even bigger sea of strangers. Most ignored you, but there was the occasional middle-aged man who would eye you up and make you feel uncomfortable enough that you felt like you needed to leave the general area.
And then you ran into him.
The handsome man with long black hair and dark eyes who'd been walking about. He caught your attention like he'd caught the attention of most of the people around him, though they had seemed more content to watch him and gossip about him from afar. Maybe it was because no one else was going for it, maybe it was because you were slightly jealous that Kiki had managed to find an actual date for the night, or maybe you were just tired of the gross older men that kept ogling you and you wanted to be able to enjoy yourself with someone that you were actually in to. Regardless of whatever it was that made you do it, you approached the man and asked if he wanted to get a drink with you.
He hadn't wanted any drinks, but your boldness had impressed him enough that he wanted to talk with you. In private. Leading you away from the crowd and noise, he took you to a staff-only hallway where he introduced himself as Illumi. You introduced yourself to him, and the two of you managed to hit it off, having a lengthy conversation that ended when he kissed you suddenly. It seemed like something that had been spur-of-the-moment for him, and he pulled away from you to ask if you had liked it. Your answer was to pull him back onto your lips.
Your make-out session had culminated in him pushing you against the wall while he sucked hickeys into the skin of your neck.
And then you got caught.
You were expecting that you'd both get kicked out, but Illumi had been asked to accompany some of the casino staff while you were taken back to the main hall. Being that they were more concerned about Illumi, they left you there while you tried to hide the marks Illumi had left behind. You hadn't been sure if you would see him again; you didn't realize that he'd been working for the casino, and you were worried that you had cost him his job.
So it was unexpected when he appeared before you and asked you to leave with him.
But you said 'yes' without any hesitation.
You slid into the backseat of the car that had pulled up, Illumi coming in after you.
“The Palazzo,” Illumi instructed the driver.
Wait....
“Isn't that the really expensive hotel on the riverfront?” you asked Illumi.
“Yes. I've been staying there,” he answered.
You were amazed that he had the cash to be able to stay at a place like that. Then worry hit you.
“I got you fired, didn't I? Are you sure that isn't an issue?”
With that same small smile you had seen several times now since he'd opened up to you, Illumi smiled back at you.
“I got a better payout leaving like I did than if I had stayed. So don't worry, there's no issue.”
That eased your worries a bit, and you settled yourself into the seat as the car began to pull forward. You glanced back at the illuminated casino as you drove off, and another pang of guilt hit you.
“What's wrong?” Illumi asked.
“I left my friend without telling her anything,” you said as you pulled out your phone, “I should text her about where I'm going.”
“Mm. Yes, that would be a good idea.”
Illumi's tone was always rather flat, so you didn't notice that he seemed slightly displeased as you messaged Kiki to let her know you had left. It seemed like she'd found her own date, so hopefully she wouldn't be too mad at you. It wasn't like she'd been left alone.
The instant you hit 'send', you turned your attention back to Illumi.
“Think she'll get it in time? The reception was a little spotty in some places,” you said.
“It was fine, but don't worry about that.”
With that, Illumi pulled you into his lap while you yelped. You wanted to protest, seeing as you two were in a moving vehicle and the driver could tell what the two of you were doing. Illumi held you securely, however, and when you looked to the front of the car, you found that a sheet of tinted glass now separated the front from the back. The driver must have been able to read the mood.
“Don't worry about what's going on back there,” Illumi told you, “from this point on, all I want for you to focus on is me.”
His order made you blush, and you shyly answered with an “okay” before his lips were on you.
The casino and the people inside it were the last things on your mind that night.

- Since the two of you are assassins, the way you and Illumi met was actually when on your own missions. Coincidentally, you two were both paid to hunt down the same person, and throughout your own missions you guys often ran into each other, unintentionally. It take long for you to realize that you were both assassins, ones with the same target as that.
- Although it wasn’t stated, you guys both treated this mission as a race to see who could come in for the kill first. You guys creeped around the target swiftly, yet discreetly, trying to be quick but still as inconspicuous as possible. It took a while but after a seemingly long night, the assassins skills came in clutch and eventually ended up killing his target.
- Even though you had “lost” to him, Illumi admired your skills, finding you a challenging obstacle to overcome during his mission. When you guys were about to part your ways, you passed him one of your cards with your information on it.
- Now, Illumi was a little confused by this, he’s a professional assassin, so why would he need the business card from another professional assassin? When he looked down at the card, he was surprised to see that it actually had your number written on it with a little note that said “call me”. As Illumi looked up, he noticed that you were gone in the midst of night.
- Now onto the present, being that you already know the risks of being an assassin, Illumi finds it a relief that he doesn’t have to warn you about his lifestyle already. He finds it annoying having to explain himself over, and being that it takes up such a great role in his life, you already understand how he lives.
- Illumi doesn’t need to worry about anything bad happening to you since you already know how to defend yourself. He’s also very confident in your strength and how you’re able to kick ass, which is something Illumi really adores about you.
- Kikyo and Silva definitely approve of you as well mainly because you’re an assassin. Although Kikyo’s on the more protective side when it comes to her first son, she’ll think of you as the perfect suitor for him. Since you already know how dangerous an assassin lives, the Zoldyck think that you’ll be more accustomed to their own ways of living. Xeno also jokes about the two of you haha, and Milluki might make fun of you guys, occasionally.
- Sometimes you guys will help each other out on missions. Although Illumi doesn’t need the help, he really enjoys you accompanying him while doing so. Plus, he believes that you tagging along on his missions is more convenient as it helps Illumi get the job done quicker.
- (Assuming that you have nen) you guys often practice fighting and improving your techniques with each other. Yes, the two of you might be skillful assassins, but mistakes can happen and trying to better your skills is still very important. The fact that he’s fighting with someone that matches his level is something he finds VERY impressive. He’ll look at you with such great (blank) look of admiration if you take him down :,)

Illumi x F.Reader - Expectation
Pairing: Illumi x Female Reader
Story tags: Arranged marriage, typical Zoldyck behaviour, angst-ish, heavy manipulation, ILLUMI, unhealthy one-sided dependence : ) my guy just toxic
3,200+ words and why? I don’t even like the dude. Also, two points of view.
The sound of fancy porcelain tea cups clinking against the glass table is soothing, along with the warm rays shining on your face. Times like these are what you are thankful for. The smell of purposely picked flowers, arranged to please the eyes. Not the stench of trash dumped for the sole convenience of other countries. Colourful butterflies and bees, instead of flies and disease ridden rats. A home cooked meal ready for your consumption rather than scraps of rotting food that you more often than not nearly died for.
Kukuroo mountain is infinitely more beautiful compared to Meteor City.
“(Y/n) dear, it’s unbecoming of you to make noise with your tableware,” a powerful feminine voice chastates your mistake. The woman sitting opposite you is none other than Kikyo Zoldyck. Or as she forces you to call her, mother.
Your heart flutters in relief, an apologetic expression weaving onto your face. She must be in an agreeable mood since her fan hasn’t struck your hand. Sometimes you are let off with a warning if she spots a blunder on your part. Sometimes, she resorts to physical punishment. It always depends on whether or not a family member said anything to ruin her day. In fact, any matter concerning Killua will set her off in a positive or negative direction.
Just like Illumi whenever you bring up his younger brother.
“I apologise mother, I’m too excited because Illumi is returning,” you proceed to take a sip and this time around, gently settle the tea cup down.
A content hum comes from her direction, her visor flashing for a split second. “Oh (Y/n), you’ll make such a good wife one day.” She picks up a fork gracefully and stabs it into the cake she asked for from the family cook.
The compliment ignites a multitude of feelings in your chest. It spreads out, only one thought in your mind.
How immensely grateful and happy you are to hear it.
Many of your friends from when you were young, starved to death. Some were beaten up by other desperate residents. Others lost their will to fight, a state you threaded on a magnitude of times.
Being taken away by the mafia one day was what gave you back the spark, a life in the city no more out of your reach. Until you figured out what type of work they wanted to sell you and other kids for. Stories from the older girls back in Meteor City came rushing back.
Your bloodlust and instinct to survive are what happened to change your life for the better. Out of all the line-up of children, you were selected by the Zoldycks. Instead of being the pet of some old pervert, you found a home within the assassin family.
There were many times when you felt like giving up. When the training you went through was worse than simply dying. However, you promised yourself to never throw away the chance you received all those years back.
You were indebted to the Zoldycks.
Hearing words of encouragement from one of the people you looked up to the most brought tears to your eyes. You wiped them away with your thumb.
Mother is a role model to you. It helped when you found out that she originates from Meteor City too. In a sense, it is easier to place yourself in her shoes and strive to achieve what she did. Being an amazing assassin, wife and mother.
A sudden scraping of a chair brought you back to the presence, startling you into a defensive pose. The knife under your sundress clasped in your hand.
Out of the corner of your eye you notice Kalluto coming out from behind the bushes, his paper fan also ready for action.
“My Kil, what is he doing?! Quick, we have to stop him. Kalluto go call for Milluki right now!,” she orders shrilly before running into the mansion.
Without hesitation, you rush after her. It is expected of you. A nagging feeling in the back of your head also foreshadows that whatever is going on, it will have dire consequences if not stopped.
Killua is in the foyer, being kept idle by the servants. But not for long. You can see the irritation growing on his face, his muscles tensed.
You’ve known Killua since he was a baby, having been inducted as a future family member when mother was pregnant with him. There’s no doubt that if something wasn’t done, it would lead to a messy aftermath.
A few seconds after you make it inside, Milluki shows up and the servants are all dismissed.
“Kil, my little Kil, what’s wrong? Why did I hear that you’re leaving to take the Hunter’s Exam?,” mother’s voice is aghast, the idea of her favourite child abandoning the nest filling her with pain.
You too are taken aback at the news, a protective sensation coursing through you. Your fingers flex at your side.
“It’s boring here and I heard that the Exam is difficult so I’m going to test my skill,” he shrugs her worry off and spins his skateboard. Your heart begins to pound uncontrollably.
Hearing the disrespect, Milluki steps up and lashes out at Killua. “You brat, what’s with that arrogant attitude you-,”
“Stop that!,” mother’s voice sharply cuts him down.
She begins pleading with Killua to stay, her voice cracking multiple times. It pains you to watch someone you respect growing so desperate.
Killua is too young to understand what he’s putting the ones around him through. Of course, a rebellious phase is healthy-
A prickly discomfort surges through your head and you clutch it. Your unexpected movement grabs everyone’s attention. You try to brush it off, not wishing to be a burden.
It isn’t expected of you to be one.
“Killua, you should stay here. The world is a dangerous place,” your words try to reach him. “Illumi is coming home today,  why don’t we-”,
“I don’t want him around! Just leave me alone,” he angrily interrupts. The air grows heavy. Heavier than it’s been since the beginning.
Mother gasps in shock at his behaviour since Killua never really yells at you. Yes, he gets annoyed as much as any other kid but when he shouts, he doesn’t really mean it.
It’s expected of you to coerce him into calming down.
“You’ve changed during the past few weeks (Y/n), after Illumi came back before leaving again. Anyway, I will kill you all if you try to stop me,” Killua promises in a cold voice, his blue eyes a piercing ice.
This rouses an onslaught of insults from Milluki and a mix of agony and happiness from mother.
However, you’re currently stuck in your own mind, reflecting on Killua’s comment. It is true that during the past three weeks you doted on him more than ever before. Usually you try to split your attention between him and Kalluto when you have free time. What changed?
Nothing should have changed, Killua is the priority of the family.
A high-pitched scream echoes around the foyer and your clouded head awakens. The sight in front of you freezes your blood and it takes immense strength not to bite your tongue.
Mother is kneeling down on the ground, her hands covering her bloody face. Before you can take a step, Milluki rages and charges at Killua. The young boy bounces back and proceeds to plunge the knife into his older brother. Milluki curses and grabs his wound.
On impulse, your hand is already equipped with a knife and you’re ready to protect yourself as well as mother Killua.
Killua mistakes your movements as an attack and strikes his own knife across your arm. A long gash appears on your skin, the blood seeping out moments later. You take in the pain as punishment. Punishment for letting it get this far and failing.
You’re a failure.Failure.Failure.Failure.Failure.Failure.Failure.Failure.Failure.
Taking the chance to escape, he kicks his skateboard up and runs out.
And you were helpless to stop him.
*
It’s been a while since Illumi has been back home on Kukuroo mountain, his previous mission requiring him to travel across multiple locations. The target was a cautious person so they moved from place to place, leaving lousy decoys. That did not impede Illumi at all, it was simply an inconvenience at worst.
After all, nervous-wrecks are the ones who put their emotions out on display. They are the first to slip up due to the fact that they care about others.
Which is concerning because Killua is at a stage where he is showing his rebellious streak more often. It is crucial that he can snuff it out before his dear brother falls further down the slope of idiotic fantasies . In which case, it is a slight relief that (Y/n) is here. She tries to keep Killua in check in a subtle way instead of hanging over his shoulder or perpetuating his moody behaviour.
Though the last time he visited there were hints of her growing soft and losing her devotion of raising Killua to be the next head of the family. He is ashamed to confess that it irked him to some degree. It’s expected of her to put her desires down for what he wants. And he wants Killua to be the next head.
Even so, he thought that he dealt with this the last time.
However, imagine the surprise he felt when his mother came wailing to him, begging him to follow her little Kil to the Hunter’s Exam. To think that instead of a joyful family reunion, the news of his stray younger brother reached his ears before anything else.
That won’t do.
Currently, it’s close to midnight which is the time (Y/n) comes to his room to say goodnight. Why she even bothers is beyond him. The effort of keeping up with formalities could be used for better activities. It’s already indisputable that they are arranged to marry in the future at the request of his parents, so there is no reason to be close together in any romantic sense.
In fact, Killua will succeed as the head which is why there is no point in thinking about his own future.
A sigh leaves his mouth.
There is only one positive outcome that came out of this whole arrangement. He has an extra set of eyes and he’s sure that she will listen to him without question. All he has to do is play into these formalities and she’s wrapped around his finger.
An affectionate hug here, a tiny smile there...Normally he’d be concerned that a future Zoldyck , even if not by blood, would be so easy to deceive. However, since every carefully planned step is coming from him he’s not surprised in the slightest.
It’s expected of (Y/n) to be loyal, just as much as it’s expected for Killua to take over the family business.
The wooden clock hanging opposite his bed strikes 12 but there is no sign of (Y/n). She never runs late.
The fact that she hadn’t even greeted him when he came back is also unusual. Normally she’d be pacing in front of the entrance door but today his mother took over that role. He heard that she got injured by Killua but (Y/n) has experienced worse so what’s the fuss?
It’s not his problem, he’ll just take a bath before bed. She’ll come running eventually.
~
Illumi’s right arm is beginning to grow numb. He hasn’t moved from the water in over an hour. Not because he needed a break to relax, taking time off for yourself is inefficient. No, he hasn’t moved because he’s been waiting for the familiar steps and hesitant knock to come from outside his room.
Discerning who someone is from the sound of their footsteps and how they carry themselves is second nature to any professional assassin. For instance, Milluki hovers in one spot when walking while Kalluto creates soft patters with his toes.
On the other hand, (Y/n) always shuffles her feet forward just before his door. It takes her approximately 2 seconds to knock when she’s unsure, 1 second when she’s in a normal mood and 0.5 whenever she has news deemed worthy enough for him to hear. Reading the mood of someone before they see you face to face is important.
Coming to terms with the fact that today she won’t pay him a visit, he steps out of the bathtub, water dripping down his naked body. He throws on a plain black bathrobe and leaves the bathroom. Giving his bed a quick-over, he walks out the door.
Guess it’s time for him to pay a visit instead.
If he actually bothers and gives it some thought, it’s not a mystery as to why he hasn’t even seen her shadow today. She’s ashamed. Ashamed of being a failure for letting Killua go.
Her scrambled mind is most likely trying to piece together what she should say. How she should ask for forgiveness and repent.
He wonders if she’s starving herself or if she’s contemplating about going to the self-confinement room.
Normally he’d push her into whatever she makes up but a stick approach by itself won’t be enough. There needs to be a push and pull factor involved if he wants her to listen to him unconditionally.
And what better way than to appear before her, disheveled and still wet in his robe? She’ll jump to conclusions.
Further guilt will set in, how she unnecessarily worried him by skipping the usual goodnight. His state will continue feeding her imagination, connecting unrelated dots to make her believe that he cares for her.
Truly, a puppet and its real master.
Soaking footprints follow behind him on the floor, the dim candlelight making them difficult to notice. He knocks once before letting himself in and shutting the door, back turned to the only other person inside.
A small gasp penetrates the silence and a rush of steps follow suit, stopping just behind him.
“Illumi, welcome back,” (Y/n) is the first to speak. He stays silent.
A nervous shuffle. “Is..everything okay?”.
The voice quietens downs the more she speaks. That should be enough for now.
He turns around and looks down at her concerned face, with no emotion of his own. Her eyes widen a fraction after registering his condition. Before she can open her mouth to question him further, Illumi crinkles his eyes and smiles.
“It’s nothing. I was just worried since I didn’t see you today,” he gazes away, giving her enough time to fix her expression. It’ll be harder for him to get her to open up if she thinks that he sees through her lack of control.
“I missed you too-,”
Presumptuous to think that he missed her.
“-and I’m sorry for not saying anything. I just…,” she stops right before confessing her shortcoming.
He doesn’t provide her with any more time to compose herself, a full day is already generous. Grabbing the door handle he gives it a slight tug but her hand shuts it and pulls his sleeve. That’s new. (Y/n) rarely takes the initiative.
He allows her to drag him over to the bed, slightly curious about her next move. Is she trying to entertain him as an apology or simply trying to put distance between him and the door?
Both tactics aren’t half bad when it comes to simple targets.
He sits down on the covers and analyses her.
A long white nightdress, face ready for bed, barefoot, and a long knife wound going up her arm.
A shred of pride for Killua’s work passes through his head but he doesn’t showcase this. If by any chance she spotted the look, it would demolish the picture he wants to paint.
(Y/n) kneels down in front of him and takes his hand into hers. It’s warm, though not as soft as it used to be. Her breasts rest atop his knees.
His attention migrates from the sudden action to her face, looking for answers. He made sure that she will only expect affection coming from him, not the other way around. It would be too tiring to keep up a loving demeanour- no, scratch that. It wouldn’t be tiring but the expectations would eventually rise and it would result in less time spent on bringing up Killua.
Oh, he zoned out.
(Y/n)’s eyes are full of regret and desperation, the hand holding his trembling just enough to tell him that today’s event is eating at her. Is she waiting for him to say something?
Finally after what feels like an unprecedented amount of time, the scene unfolds.
Her smaller hand pulls his to her face and rests it against her cheek. The second his skin touches hers, he detects slight heat radiating. She must have not treated the cut. The knife was probably dirty too, Killua slacks off in that regard.
“I’m sorry for being a failure, I’m very sorry Illumi. I have no excuse,” the apology flows out of her mouth, bottom lip quivering. The pain of looking at someone she disappointed forces her eyes to shut close. Her free hand latches onto his thigh and she digs in before continuing.
“You can slash my other arm as punishment. Or hang me upside down in the self-containment room,” she throws out. “But please, please don’t give up on me. I can do better Illumi”.
And as if to prove how determined she is, her eyes open up again, staring deeply into his own. Unwavering. Confident.
Though the thumb that he has under her jaw gave the hammering pulse away.
1,2,3. 1,2. 1,2,3.
He stretched out the silence, pretending to ponder over his answer. The unsettling emotions influencing her thoughts will prove beneficial when he flips her assumption around.
He removes his hand from her cheek and moves the one on his thigh to her side. (Y/n) adopts a look of relief, believing that he agreed to her conditions of punishment. What he’s about to do is infinitely more cruel though.
She catches her breath when he follows her example and kneels in front of her. He pulls up the sleeve of her nightdress that’s slipping down before grabbing her shoulders, gently.
“How can I not give up on you when you give up on yourself,” he lectures her, peeking down at her wound. Make the target question their actions.
An expression of remorse adorns her face, a downward tug of the mouth.
He pulls her in, arms encircling and resting on her lower back. The material of the nightdress is light enough for him to make out the feeling of skin.
“Though I won’t give up on you.” Affirmation and a moment of reassurance.
One of his hands travels deliberately slowly up to her neck. It rests on the back of her head, fingers entangled in her hair. Illumi locates the present that he left her the last time he visited and pushes it back into her head. It has moved slightly out.
This prompts (Y/n) to hug him in response, her previously hanging arms now resting comfortably around him. Good, as for the finishing line.
“Though your failure is a disappointment, I know that you will not repeat the same mistake, because you
love me, right?”.
Her head moves to rest between the crook of his neck, nodding in agreement. She doesn’t ask him if he loves her.
It’s expected of her not to.

A hiccup in the process
cw: breaking and entering again, more stalking, that’s not gonna go away for this story lol, I think that’s the big ones to note. enjoy!
Previous part: here
First part: here
Sadly, Illumi couldn't keep an eye on you 24/7, which he found irked him slightly. More-so when Milluki would give him updates while he was on his mission. It wasn't like Milluki himself irked Illumi this easily every day, he was his baby brother, he was allowed to annoy the long haired assassin, that's what family does, but for some reason knowing that the rotund young man was using the spy cameras he'd installed for his own surveillance to check in on you every few days to ensure nothing bad happened ate at Illumi in a whole new fashion.
Despite this, the assassin focused on his work as best he could, not that it really required much focus, a pretty textbook political hit, easy enough. However, when he came back, he was not greeted by an equal amount of ease.
He'd stopped by his home, doing the usual after-job reports for the client, than told his mother that he'd return to keeping an eye on you until his next job, he also stopped by Milluki's room and rather coldly told him he could stop spying on you. Than, he headed over to your place, curious to see what fine details his brother didn't find necessary to relay. However, when he got to your home and peeked inside, careful to ensure no possible neighbors saw him, he found it suspiciously empty. Milluki would've told me of any new people coming around, so (y/n) isn't on a date or anything. It's not a weekend, so (f/n) surely doesn't have her, and (y/n) isn't the type to just up and leave.. he mused, a bit down the street now sitting on an empty bench in the spring air so he didn't seem super suspicious to anyone around by lingering around your home.
He mulled these questions over for a while, most of the day it seemed since the next time he returned from splitting his attention between puzzling out this issue of emotions and closely watching your home it was evening and the temperatures were cooling. What drew his attention completely to your home was the unfamiliar car that pulled into your driveway. A car pulling up wasn't super odd to Illumi, (f/n) occasionally came by after all, but this car didn't belong to them, and it definitely wasn't yours, as you either didn't have one, or it was at your home, so the sight of a new person immediately put Illumi on the defensive. This boiling feeling of out of place anger worsened when you lingered by the strangers car.
On the bright side, the long haired assassin used this opportunity to meander over and eavesdrop to figure out where you may have been,
"-Thanks for taking me out!" you were saying, leaning a bit towards the drivers window, where a man, or maybe woman, illumi couldn't quite tell from where he was paused to listen, sat, waving your gratitude away nonchalantly,
"Nah, it's cool. You were pretty fun to hang out with, I'd be happy to take you out again another time if you'd want." the person said, making you giggle, the sweet sound acting as gasoline on his already ill mood.
Sadly, Illumi couldn't linger around any longer, you were noticeably getting tenser and had thrown a few skeptical glances at the assassin while he was paused on his phone, so he didn't catch the remainder of your conversation before your 'friend' left.
Illumi walked around the block to calm down and refrain from any rash decisions that night, returning to his usual hiding place afterwards, watching you as you happily lounged in your home. While the darkness of night crept in around him, Illumi tried to figure out what to do and why he was so annoyed to see you with someone else. Did he want to kill you? Was he mad that you potentially going on a date made that goal harder to achieve cleanly? No, that didn't seem to be correct, the explanation not seeming to cover all of the prickly emotions he felt at the moment, but it was the best explanation he had. He didn't have a lot of experience with the 'softer emotions' as his mother sometimes called them when she had given him a basic course on wooing himself a wife, and he was an assassin, a trained killer, surely he had no need to learn about these things. Though, he had to admit, combing out those pesky barbs of maybe I'm jealous and maybe I'd like to be the one she has a fun time with from his already crowded and busy thoughts was annoying. Every other emotion he could neatly package away, he could temper his lust, curb his anger, and suppress sadness, guilt, shame, and the like. But this situation, you, seemed to have this aggravating power to flip the lid of Pandora's box and pick out the worst of the bunch to bring to the surface.
After some contemplation, the assassin decided that he did, in fact, want to kill someone, but not you. You were still an entertaining little puzzle to burn away the time, at least, even if you did aggravate him. so, instead of killing you, he waited for you to go to bed and than slipped inside once again. This time though, he wasn't there to peek at your sleeping body, Though I bet she's wearing something risque again a dark little voice whispered in his head, but no, he could not indulge in that tonight. He was there on a mission to find information on your friend and the person who took you on a date. Peeking beneath your covers to catch a glimpse of your soft thighs or chest could wait.
He focused on his task, digging through anything he found that could potentially hold information about those you knew, but nothing proved useful. He found a picture with (f/n)'s name on the back, but he already knew their name, he needed their address or full name, or at least their phone number to have Milluki trace it. Sadly though, you didn't make a habit of writing down police-interrogation level notes on your few friends and leaving them in the open, so Illumi had to collect himself and get a good grip on his hormonal reactions before going into your bedroom for your phone.
Your room was as quiet as before, with, at most, a white noise source that the lean assassin made a mental note to ween you off of once if he had you as a wife. It wasn't an impressive room, dotted with a few articles of dirty clothes or other signs of life, but his dark, empty eyes still zeroed in on a pair of your undergarments on the floor in particular. Part of him was repulsed by how slovenly you were to leave a few articles of dirty laundry on the floor, but another part of him knew that he himself wasn't an exact neat freak and he only thought you were messy because he had butlers, you didn't. No, instead that devious side of himself focused more on what was on the floor, and how that might mean you were...less modest than he might have first thought.
He stopped himself, repressing the nasty urge to check and than punish you if you really were so brave as to sleep without panties and just scooped up your phone and left your bedroom to staunch any other distractions. With a deep breath to clear away the lustful thoughts, Illumi easily hacked into your phone, really, your password was so easy, and dug around. He tried to find your friends contact information, and while he didn't find a phone number, address, or anything like that, he did find their online profile, which was enough for Milluki to track them down. However, he didn't stop snooping after that. Instead, he looked around in your photos, other messages or DMs, anything personal or potentially holding lewd info or images, but the most he found was a google search for an adult toy you seemed to be contemplating buying. He swiftly deleted that from your search history and returned your phone to where it had been.
Now he only needed to let his brother do his job and look into (f/n) and than your date. Of course, he'd have Milluki do that after clarifying why the shut-in gaming nerd should've told him you had a date of any sort.

How do you think the adultrio would respond to being ROASTED by their crush? (Mutual feelings between the crush on the member of the trio, but neither of them know their feelings are returned) *waggles eyebrows*
Oho, this is gonna be fun 😈
Thank you and I hope you like it! 🙇💕
Also, I think those suck, so please, someone come and roast those guys for me or with me if I did this right 😂
Chrollo
Chrollo has been feeling some sort of way about you for a while and has been trying to show it to you
and you liked him too - it was a bit too hard not to like him
but he always seemed to be polite to everyone, speak in this calm manner and using such clever words
it just didn’t seem as if he was treating you any differently
so when Machi, knowing about your crushes on each other, asked what you didn’t like about Chrollo - he was curious if there was something and if he could change it to make you like him more
I’d love to run my fingers through his hair, but I’m scared they’d get stuck in all that hair gel of his and I wouldn’t be able to pull them out or I’d pull them and his hair off too
Machi’s lip barely twitched before she looked at Chrollo who looked shocked, with his eyes wide and staring from you to Machi as you continued talking about other things
well, he didn’t really expect that
but he did use a lot of hair gel, so he could understand
and when he thought of the image you managed to conjure in his mind, he actually scoffed in amusement
he’d lay off the hair gel, at least for a while, and especially when he was around you
you did notice how his hair was now let down more often
and honestly, the urge to run your fingers through his hair was really strong
it looked really soft and fluffy
and one day, while you were watching TV, Chrollo sat down next to you, with a book, of course
only that he asked if he could sit... with his head in your lap
all while staring at you with those big, captivating, grey eyes and those pouty lips set in a charming, warm smile
you just couldn’t say no
and so you got a comfy pillow and put it on your thighs
for some time, you both stayed silent and did your own thing
but your hands were twitching to just go through his hair and you just couldn’t help it when you asked him if he could do it
oh, what made you want to do something like this?
again, those grey eyes staring at you and that... playful smile
you just told him to shut it and enjoy it, which made him laugh
and his hair really was soft and fluffy now that it wasn't slicked back with tons of hair gel
Chrollo only hummed before slowly putting the open book on his chest and enjoying your fingers through his hair and your nails over his scalp
it was a quiet, peaceful moment
the Spiders were getting sick of your little dance around your feelings while you were glancing at one another when you thought the other wasn’t looking
hopefully, one of you would soon crack and expose their feelings for the other
Hisoka
this dummy...
he has an interest in you
he’s been around you for an awful lot of time and you probably won’t fight him
you even told him that and he still hung around
of course, with all the time he spent with you, you started taking a liking to him
none of you said anything to the other about your feelings
Hisoka wasn’t really sure that what he felt wasn’t just extreme lust or just him wanting to toy around with you
and you were pretty sure that Hisoka didn’t want anything serious like a relationship with you
as weird and extravagant as he was, Hisoka could be pretty funny when he wanted to be
and he almost always was around you, making you feel pretty safe
Hisoka could pester and tease you a lot though
and it got to the point where it actually started getting on your nerves one day
usually, you would just shake your head and let him be or retaliate
but today, you just wanted to shut him up
he just kept poking you when you wouldn’t say a thing and in the end, you snapped
Hisoka, I swear that I’ll take you back to the circus if you don’t stop acting like a clown!
he could only blink and stare with a frozen smile
that was mean, lovely~ ♠️
that damn, teasing smile came back full force and Hisoka actually put an arm around your waist, pulling you closer to him
that smile stayed on his face the whole day
at least it shut him up
that little comeback of yours amused him greatly and he was glad you could keep up with him and actually make him be silent
if only because of the thoughts in his head telling him that while there was definitely lust, Hisoka could feel that there was something more than that
he only wondered if, with just a bit more time by your side, he could actually be able to pinpoint his exact feelings and act upon them
and soon
he didn’t want to give you to anyone else
Illumi
somehow, you’d made it
you had made THE Illumi Zoldyck get a crush on you
after befriending Gon and Killua during the Hunter Exam, you’d visited Killua quite often
the two boys loved you and so did Alluka and Kalluto when you managed to meet them through some of your many visits to the Zoldyck estate
even Milluki liked you, but he kept his distance
still, he was respectful to you since you were just as polite to everyone you had met there
the butlers liked you, Silva and Kikyo liked you, Zeno enjoyed talking to you a lot and you liked listening to his stories, and Maha?
even he liked you, though he was quieter
you’d managed to brighten the whole place up with your optimism, kindness and politeness
Illumi had seen you during the exam and had kept a close eye on you, even more so when he saw Killua accept you nearby and grew curious after he’d brought you over the first time
you’d formally met Illumi and he was left feeling conflicted
he didn’t really like you at first
you were the type that would prevent Killua from fulfilling his family-imposed destiny of being the next heir and assassin
but the more he watched your interactions with everyone, including the ones with him, the more he realised that his family had actually grown closer
Illumi would stare at you a lot of times, wondering why you’d attracted his attention so much
Hisoka was the one who noticed that there was something going on when he saw him zone out a lot more often
and when he teasingly asked him if he was in love
that’s when it clicked
and so, Illumi now tried spending time with you whenever you were at the estate and not with any of the others
you actually started liking him
he was pretty quiet, but cute, respectful and strong
right now, he was ready to tear you away from Killua and Alluka who you were animatedly talking to when he heard Killua’s words
(Y/N)-chan, what do you think about Illumi and his needles?
Illumi stopped as you hummed, curious about your answer
I always wonder if his senses are that good, you know? I mean, I know he’s an assassin and all, but did he ever forget one of his needles somewhere and stung himself in the butt or something? Or did he get his Rapunzel-like hair tangled up? I remember when Gon threw him over his shoulder and he seemed pretty clumsy
Illumi was, for once, embarrassed
unfortunately, things like those had happened before
the needle one? when he was a kid and he was still trying to get used to them
and the hair one... a few months before because he had a fitful sleep - a rare occurrence, but it did happen
and the thing with Gon... of course you were there and just had to see that
Killua and Alluka snickered and just at that moment, Killua looked back and smirked at Illumi
the little jerk knew he was there
and that he liked you
and he took full advantage of it
Illumi could only call out to you, stating that he needed your opinion on something
and as you left with him, Illumi could hear his younger siblings’ snickering
he hoped you liked him, despite the embarrassing moments, and that he’d be able to tell you he liked you too
maybe he could ask Hisoka for some advice?

My HxH ships
Disclaimer: These are my thoughts on my ships to share with my Tumblr friends. If you’re some stranger who disagrees with it and it evokes negative emotions on you, kindly exit. I know the internet has a bunch of trolls/idiots that has a habit of harassing people because the ship is “wrong” or it doesn’t suit them. Well, honestly, I don’t really care if you agree with them because I don’t know you personally? And this is fictional so it’s not something to be taken personally or even seriously. Don’t confuse my personal values with what I like with the ships.
I can’t believe I even need to make a disclaimer on this because a bunch of people don’t know how to be civilized once they are anonymous on a social media platform. I will just block lol; BYEEE.
HxH I love:
Defintion - Actively ships them, willing to make fanfics of them if possible
1. Kurapika x Neon
Tumblr media
This ship is so underrated it hurts. They may not be similar in terms of personality and views of the dead: Neon focuses more on the living and the present (that’s why she doesn’t have sympathy for the dead and tells Chrollo her fortunes are for the living), while Kurapika focuses on the past and mourns for the dead (his mourning for his clan). But I think both of them are very similar in terms of loneliness. Neon doesn’t have friends and lacks affections from her father; Kurapika is lonely because all of his clan members are dead.
I know the common barrier is Neon’s hobby for flesh collecting, but I think this difference is what makes it more complicated and interesting for me. Especially when Kurapika has been in many seasons under the Nostrade Family... it makes me wonder what kind of interactions they had since it was all Killua and Gon on-screen.
2. Hisoka x Machi
I actually had always liked Hisoka with Machi together. Hisoka seems to really like her and enjoys her company. Machi may seem irritated by him but I think she’s more of a tsundere? She still decides to patch him after the fight against Chrollo, and their relationship got a bit more complicated after the Hisoka vs Chrollo fight.
Tumblr media
3. Tserreidnich x Theta
Tumblr media
Okay, I LOVE this ship. This is right out love-hate kind of relationship. It lowkey reminds me of Clarice/Hannibal and I find this ship so fascinating? I don’t see a lot of fanfics of them unfortunately. So Legacy by Alltagsabenteuer is a blessing from heaven because it’s the only TsexTheta tag in AO3.
So far I haven’t found anyone else who loves this ship, so please identify yourself if you do.
I’m starting to think I like those complicated love-hate dynamics....
HxH ships I like:
Definition of like - Actively ships them, may make fanfics of them or not. But doesn’t think of them 24/7.
1. Pokkle x Ponzu
Tumblr media
This was like, a ship that never really sailed because Togashi decided to kill them both. I think this ship had potential and I’m hoping they find happiness in the afterlife.
2. Chrollo x Neon
Tumblr media
I actually really liked how they vibe together during this one scene (although Chrollo targetted to meet her for her fortune-telling abilities). I am a KuraNeon shipper but I like the idea of Chrollo being a 3rd party because I think it fits so well? Chrollo and Kurapika are enemies and I had always found it fascinating how both of them got entangled with the same woman.  Also, people be like “Neon is 16″ uhhh... Hunterpedia states she’s born in 1982, along with Kurapika and Milluki. She’s the same age as Kurapika and Milluki; and Kurapika is widely accepted as 19 now; and it does tally if you see the Hunter x Hunter timeline (although there has been several discrepancies and dubious canonity when it comes to the Official Hunter x Hunter database and the HxH manga timeline). I’m not sure why people falsely remember Neon as a year younger than Kurapika and use it as a common argument to not support Chrollo/Neon when people have no problems (except for some) when it comes to shipping Kurapika with Chrollo.
So... Chrollo be that Mr. Steal Yo Girl and Kurapika’s posessive reaction to it will be astronomical.
I am also hella gonna support the upcoming #kuroneoweek2021 in May! @kuroneoweek
So you bet there will be more fanfics of KuroNeo from me!
HxH ships I support:
Definition of support: Does not actively ship them, but definitely likes the idea of them
1. Killua x Canary
I love how Canary tries her best for Killua and she does care about him. I realised that Killua seems to have an issue with older women (e.g. Bisky, Elevator girl), but I think for girls who are about his age, he’s okay with them. There is a misconception that he can’t communicate with women well (probably because he has issues with his mother), but I think that’s just for old ladies - Canary is cool with him.
2. Hisoka x Illumi
Tumblr media
It drives me nuts how these two have matching outfits. I know that they have a more of a give-and-take transactional relationships rather than purely friends, but this is fab best friendship goals. My friend loves this ship and I absolutely support it.
3. Retz (with either Gon or Killua)
Tumblr media
The unreasonable hate on Retz is insane because “she’s ruining KilluGon”. I think it’s really refreshing to see Killua and Gon hang out with another girl their age. You can see that Gon is really sweet towards her. Killua is more suspicious of her for a good reason but he never hated her. Remember that Killua is not used to interacting with people due to his family background. In fact, as @u-named mentioned, Killua and Retz shares similarities in terms of wanting to be free from their family.
4. Alluka x Gon
Tumblr media
I would love to see a fanfic where Gon starts to woo Alluka and Killua will be that overprotective brother, knowing that his best friend is a player. Alluka/Nanika healed Gon anyway, so she’s technically his saving angel.
5. Ging x Gon’s unnamed mom
Okay, this is a bit weird cause we don’t know who Gon’s mom is... (and screw that Pregnancy Stone theory, I just think it’s weird how Ging mentioned Gon’s mom in the tape if he never had a mom lmao; is he gonna say “which you don’t have” like ???).
I actually like fanfics that explores Ging’s life before Gon and various interpretations of who Gon’s mom is.
What Lies Beyond by Thatsoneperson is one of the best fanfics I’ve read when it comes to Ging’s life before Gon. The ending was really heartbreaking and I had always loved the “Gon’s mom was from the DC” theory because Yusuke’s ancestral father came from the Demon World and there were hints of Gon’s dark aura throughout CA and Election arc.
Somehow in my headcanon, I had always envisioned Gon’s mom to resemble Usagi from Sailor Moon but with Gon’s hair colour. Gon also has certain personality traits that are very different from Ging and I believe that came from his mother.
6. Meruem x Komugi
Tumblr media
One of the most unexpected, beautiful, saddest, semi-canon pairings in the entire series. It highkey reminds me of Beauty and the Beast. It was beautiful how Meruem, a Chimera Ant that was supposed to be destined to rule the world above humans, became gradually attached to a blind human girl.
7. Killua x Machi
This is fucking weird; because of the age gap but I like to think Killua meets her again one day when he grows up, and they had some sort of flirtation because he needs to be on par with Gon when it comes to dating women.
There was actually a cute fic about that called A Series of Pick Up Lines by Yandere Shoujo where Killua was trying to use pick up lines on a woman because he wanted to try it out after knowing that Gon dated women prior and just so happens to bump into Machi.

Silva walked through the hallway silently with his footsteps while holding the lightweight box in his hand.
No matter what's happening in the manor right now he doesn't care.
Even when his partner was calling for help.
The more he walked the louder Kikyo's scream is.
'Listening to her screeching is like satan propose her a marriage by torture.'
Thinking back about what Kikyo said and how she behaved.
Kikyo screams to his face to his back for a week after his son's runaway.
"Killua just ran away! At least do something instead of watching he ran off!"
"The hell were kind of thoughts are in your mind that time do something! Tell me at least!!"
"THIS IS DISAPPOINTING!"
"Hunter exam!? What is he doing there."
"WHAT?! There's for fun!?! What kind of-"
He shuts his mind off about his wife it seems to make him less stressful for now.
'About Killua.. Illumi will deal with him.'
'This will get more and more annoying..'
Narrowing his eyes slightly as he reached the outside in seconds.
'Time to visit.'
He feels the book was the main problem of it all when in reality it's the opposite.

Zeno fastly reach for the knob of the library door slammed it open as the butlers followed him inside.
To the butlers horrified expressions, he know it's time for him to step out and never mind about this business again or maybe just get out of this household full of nothing but his daughter in-law screams.
Ready to walk out of the library he stops.
'In the end I can't avoid it.'
Signing to himself he turned to the staffs and ordered them out.
"All of you get out."
His raspy voice were filled with nothing but dissatisfaction, disappointment and the irritation he's feeling began bubbling inside his body faintly.
After all of them out of room he waited and waited.
'Where's Milluki? I heard him I'm sure..'
"Mama!"
Milluki arrived with sweats and breaths hitching every seconds his eyes still on the ground.
It took a minute to bring himself back together again. His eyes widened in surprise.
"She's dead."
His grandfather said his face still the same as ever.
"What do you mean grandpa? Mama's still breathing."
Milluki's voice sounds relieved after he saw his mother's body twitching for help.

Silva's now arrive in front of the destination he supposed to be visit two time years ago.
Ready to knock on the door only for the door itself opened by a mere maid.
"Master is expecting you mister Zoldyck."
Without anymore words the maid leads him to the beautifully decorated detail wooden door.
Hands up to knock on the door.
*Knock*
*Knock*
*Knock*
No answer.
He knocked again three times louder.
Still no answer.
Without hesitation he opened the door only to find a grey haired man sitting in the chair facing his way to the door.
"Why didn't you open the door?"
Silva asked clearly still confused and not used to his friend's weird behavior.
"Why? Well if you came here before marry that hysterical unstable bitch everything would go fine!"
"That golden child of yours won't runaway from home if you were here six years ago but.. something important must be an exchange for an unfit able heir."
The man slowly whisper the last part quietly that Silva can't make out other than his stupid endless rumbling insults for the pale blonde hair's man.
'He needs to stop saying this.'
Sighed to himself disappointingly seeing his old friend look interest or with suspicions to the object in his hand.
"That's what you want me to talk about?"
The grey hair man stood up from his chair walked past him only to lock the door behind Silva.
In the blink of his eyes only to see his friend sat on the same chair again with another chair on the opposite side of the table.
Walked up to the another side of the table by his large two steps pulled the chair out and sit.
"Have you had any breakfast yet?"
"No.."
"Great you god damn son of a bitch!"
"..."
"And tell your wife to learn her manners about getting into people business and being persistent."
"Of course."
"Let's have some breakfast first before we get to the point."
His friend whose seemed happy after leashed out his raged to him for not teaching his wife step out of the line.
Silva could only nod in agreement hoping his friend wouldn't talk about much he himself made wrong choices in his life.

A needle man face who's running at steady speed in the boring looking group of people.
The sounds of the man's phone ringing loud enough only for his ears, as the crown he's in spilt up suddenly.
What a luck he has today! The perfect time to report as he feels the vibration of his phone ringing once more.
He slows down his running as examiners in front of him all vanished to the air.
Leaving him and the other boring looking examine who looks ready to give up on everything.
Pulled out a needle from his ear suddenly appears in front of the young girl who barely feels her surroundings.
'Perfect around my height.'
Pierced a needle on her head as he speed up taking out all of his needles around her neck to her whole face.
"Follow the examiner-"
"Oh! And use the radio when you're near the destination act your best behavior."
Throw the radio at the zombie like pose person as she catch it.
The disguise girl who walked like a zombie slowly developed to humanly robotic running.
He walked to the other side of the forest find a perfectly spot for a private talking in the trees.
Pulled his phone from pants pocket he push the round button accepting his family's member call.
"Hello?"
"Oh finally you answered!"
"You do know where I am right now. What is it?"
"Uhh we need you to be here as soon as possible after the exam."
"That's doesn't matter after the exam I have business to go."
"Well forgot about your business with that annoying clown or with the brat, mama's not in good shape however it's like god's favor her a miracle she's survived."
"Of course Killua went too far with her than you."
"That's not what I meant, her neck literally twisted to the other side and still breathing."
"What do you mean mother's neck was distorted but she's still alive?"
The monotone voice were hinted with confusion.
"That's what I mean. I don't know how she's alive either-"
His younger brother voice filled with fascination.
'Mother's not in good shape, Milluki shouldn't be thinking about that cartoon show he always watch and compare the situation with it.'
Frowning to himself dissatisfaction clearly showed what kind of emotions he felt.
Before he open his mouth tell his brother to get straight to the point.
"And don't worry she's in good hands."
The sounds of the younger one voice now filled with relief.
"Really? Thank god, tell me more."
"Well yes while mama's screeching were covering someone's chanting."
"Chant?"
"Yeah, grandpapa said it was like echoing the hallway if it's possible the whole mountain could hear it."
"Then?"
"Then- uhh I can't tell you because I don't know. I meant we don't know and after the exam we need you to be here."
"What's the hurry?"
"I don't know okay! At least act like the brat is now your second priority that's dad's order!"
"Of course if what that's father says so, anything more?"
"Grandpa said it himself and he said he heard me shouting before I'm at the library. He said my voice were either inside the library or outside but not too far from the room and I can't shout too loud or my throat gonna be sore."
The younger sibling spoke fast but enough at least for him to catch on.
"After Gotoh investigated the others it seems only everyone's heard my shout not what grandpapa heard."
"You know father said to not believe in what grandfather says."
"I do. What about Killua?"
"He's fine."
"Okay."
The call between two eldest siblings ended.
'Oh I forgot to asked about father. But from Milluki's voice I think it's enough.'
'If it more possible instead of what something unbelievable like a woman who dressed in laced as they say. It's just illusion but what if it's not? There's proofs especially the ones that had been confirmed by Nen-users and science.'
'The time Killua ran from home I wasn't there.. From what I heard the wounds are deep enough but he only managed to hurt her face. Killu's height are not enough to reach her face probably her neck and chest.'
He then took a deep breath long enough to relax his body after the news he had been informed too.
'I wasn't informed correctly am I? I'm sure I am. The butlers aren't stupid enough to break any rules. If her neck twist to the other side but instead like almost cutting down a tree and Milluki always use words that's not fitting the meaning when he's angry.'
'As much as I remembered grandfather conversion between chairman's Netero...'
'Looks like it's something more important than Killua. Impossible. Unbelievable.'
'If he knows Nen before mother could've die.. and possibly Milluki too. A double edged sword situation.'
Lean on the tree he's been standing for almost 10 minutes letting out a hot breath from his mouth.
"This is troublesome than I thought."
"Hm~"
His attentions is now on the bright pink haired man who just carried the other man on his shoulder steadily.
'Killua's friends? Not good.'
"Looks like your house is full of problems now ❤︎ "
The clown magician whose now full of joy seeing his motionless friend struggles.
"Do you need any help, Illumi?"
The bright pink hair man chuckles loudly.
"Can you not interfere my business?"
"Well I can't help it when you talked about that."
Sounds of multiple footsteps past them quickly, Illumi took it as a sign to give himself privacy somewhere else.
"Hisoka, we will talk about that later private matters."
With that the jet black hair man gone only to find him running in the crowd of examiners blending perfectly.
"Okay~"
'Time to pick new toys ❤︎ '
Hisoka looks up the sky only to find the weird cloud shapes display to his own golden eyes.
He pulls out a card from his pocket pants flip the card pattern side to his eyes.
The beautiful pink pattern make him feel at ease like it always was in the past.
Slowly life his hand up to sky challenging himself by keeping the card's pattern blind his sights.
As his arm reached it's limit stretch he flipped the card symbol side to his view.
'Hearts?'
Slowly slide the card to the other side of his view comparison seeing the shape hearted cloud in white to black colored that's above him everywhere he stands.
'Will it be other shape next time I wonder..'
A card were sent to his way fastly but not fast enough to hurt him.
'Someone's watching!'
'First time every been attacked by a card..'
'But who would use it as a weapon against me?'
He pull the card that's stuck in the tree he’s leaning on.
"Oopsie~! almost hurt you ❤︎"
He glanced at the unconscious glasses man whose on his shoulder.
"But-! You're not important that much right now ♠︎ "
Pull out the card by his hand that support his arm holding the small glasses young adult.
Throw the beautiful pattern card to his other hand's up to the sky.
Much to his expectations eyes widened in shock.
A person wearing a lacy card symbols dress swaying on the swing happily.
The ropes that's on both of person hands are torn suddenly by pulling down the forced to the ground.
Gender of the person fastly revealed as the cloth from her head can't keep up sensitivity falling from the sky.
There's no scream of panicking. No laughing. No crying. Nothing just nothing.
As the woman falling now nearing Hisoka she's use her two hands cover his eyes before her head smashed to the soft grass ground.

Chapter 6 “Blue Sky Athletic” out now!
AO3 Link
The hotel room was quiet, the Italian sun hadn’t risen yet. Illumi sat himself up in bed and started to mindlessly comb through his hair. He had excused himself from the fashion show the previous night as early as he could. Because he couldn’t stand the lights. The music. The smells. The people.
Yet he was going to return the next night. There were contacts to be made, images to be upheld, a new name to be made for himself…
And he didn’t have to be alone.
A single text message to his butler:
“Illumi: Get me the keys to a Mercedes AMG GT Black series and leave me be the rest of the day.”
.
.
.
Killua had run away from home for the first time when he was 10 years old, with the intent to stay away. His father had scolded him about neglecting his studies, and in response he snuck out through his window with a backpack stuffed with a few clothes and snacks. In the end, a butler had caught him before he was able to sneak through the fencing around the large property.
He was undeterred and proceeded to perfect his means of sneaking away from the mansion. By the next summer he was able to consistently make it into town and stay there for an hour or two before a butler eventually found him. Though he wanted to, he never went further than that. Afterall, where was he supposed to go? A young boy traveling without adult supervision would attract attention almost immediately, and it wasn’t like he had friends he could visit (And the risk of running into his father or grandfather when visiting Alluka was too great).
But what if he had a place to go? He was older now, old enough to travel by himself for sure, and money wasn’t a problem as long as his lazy brother would stay blissfully unaware of his credit card expenses. Neither Illumi, his father, nor grandfather were home to surveillance him. Milluki barely registered what happens in and around the mansion. Kalluto was young enough to be bribed and trust his big brother when he tells him to keep quiet.
The setup couldn’t get more perfect. Now or never.
Killua shouted down the hall that he didn’t want dinner, peppered with swears here and there to underline anger, and he told Kalluto that if anyone were to set food in front of his door, he was free to take it for himself or Milluki. His CD player blasted metal music loud enough to give the impression of a moody teen dealing with anger issues, but not too loud as to prompt his mother to come in and turn it off herself.
Another cautionary glance down the hallway before he closed and locked his bedroom door from the inside. Now or Never.
Killua grabbed his pre-packed duffle bag and executed his well-practiced escape via window. His mother would regret the day she removed the bars framing it, foolishly thinking that Killua was ‘grown up’ enough to stop his escape attempts.
A cold breeze grazed his face, and the young boy granted himself a couple of seconds to take it in, wild hair gently swaying in the wind. Of course, he was not going to leave forever. It would only be a matter of time before someone went to retrieve him and lock him back in, chiding him about his ‘responsibilities’ that he couldn’t care less for.
But I won’t make it easy. With that thought, he gave the mansion one last middle-finger, before he quickly turned and headed towards the edge of the property that was closest to town. By now he had the surveillance pattern of the guard dogs memorized and knew exactly where the brick fence was covered by enough ivy to enable easy climbing. Soon enough, Killua was treading through the thick forest in a steady pace. He tried to listen for signs of someone coming after him despite his heart drumming louder in his ears.
Usually he’d be calm, collected, non-caring for breaking out. But this time was different. This time he had a destination in mind, wouldn’t be collected so easily. The grip around his phone tightened. He wondered how long it would take someone in the house to notice. Who would be sent after him; A butler? Would Illumi be called back? His father? How severe will the punishment be-
A branch snapped into the boy’s face, pulling him back from wherever his thoughts were about to wander. The lights of the town became clearer in his sight with every step. It wasn’t a big city by any means, but he didn’t need it to be. All he needed was a cab driver to who accepted credit and didn’t ask question.
In the end, an older cabdriver, he must have been in his sixties already, shrugged carelessly at the request of the young boy to be driven to the airport, mumbled something about rebellious youth and getting paid regardless. Killua discarded the duffle bag into the trunk of the car and sat himself down in the backseat as he fumbled with his phone. The Radio played some repetitious top 40s song about being young and freedom and friendship and following your heart, and he couldn’t help but snort at how grossly it fit.
The sun set against the horizon, the town steadily disappeared behind him, until it was completely out of sight. Every new meter the car cleared was the furthest Killua had ever made it away from home alone.
Ping.
His phones alarm startled Killua out of his thoughts once again. A single discord notification.
GON: Good morning! =v=
The runaway looked through the windshield of the car, in the distance an airport started to come into form.
Kil: morning, did u sleep okay?
GON: Like a baby :p
GON: How’re you?? Did you get your PC back yet?
Kil: about that actually
He handed the driver his/Millukis credit card and lifted his bag over his shoulder. No one ever told him how much to tip a cabby, so he assumed 50% was about right.
Kil: remember how you told me to give you a heads-up if i ever came over so you could clean?
GON: Yeah?
Killua took a quick peace-sign selfie in the large entrance of the airport, in front of the arrival/departure board, and send it promptly in their chat.
Kil: get cleaning.
.
.
.
Gon paced around the house as if driven mad, he mumbled about preparations, and food, and accommodations, more to himself really than to Mito who sat at the table, gentle smile on her lips.
“Gon, it’ll still be almost an entire day till he gets here. I’m sure he won’t be disappointed. Now remind me again, his parents are really okay with such a spontaneous visit to a virtual stranger across the globe?” Her smile was warm, but her eyes drilled threats into him.
“We’re not virtual strangers! We’ve been talking for months; I probably know him better than any of his siblings!”
“I’d just feel a bit more at ease if I could have talked with his parents in advance. What if he has any illnesses or allergies I’d need to be mindful of? What if there’s an emergency and I need their contact information?”
Instead of admitting that he did not think of all of that, Gon chose to smile with more confidence, “I’ll just make sure there’s no emergencies! I’m not a little kid anymore!” He stepped closer to where she was seated and rested with his arms and head on the table. “He’s a really good friend and hasn’t been feeling well. I think this could be really good for him, and it’s not like I have many other people to hang out with around here. But if you are really that concerned, I promise that he’ll write down his parents’ number and address! So, it’s okay, right?”
The woman sighed in defeat and brushed through Gon’s unruly hair. “You really are a troublemaker with best intentions. Don’t make me regret this.”  The young boy beamed in response and pulled his guardian into a hug. Before he could promise that he wouldn’t, she raised her voice again, “But don’t think this will get you out of studying.”
Gon groaned in agony, though it was quickly followed by another laugh. “You’re the best, you know that?”
“I do, but it doesn’t hurt to be reminded once in a while. Now go fetch the cot from the garage, or do you want your friend to sleep on the floor?”
With an energetic nod, he sprinted out the room, leaving Mito alone in the room as she tapped her fingernails against her cup of tea. Her eyes wandered to an old picture of Gons father. He’s becoming just like you. She didn’t know if the thought made her want to laugh or cry.
.
.
.
Gon was a bundle of nerves the entire drive to the airport. Killua had offered that he’d take a taxi from the airport to Gons home, but Mito insisted that they’d meet at the airport (“Just to be sure, you know?” And Gon didn’t know).
He tapped his fingers at increasing speeds against the interior of the red Subaru XV, and watched as the scenery outside transitioned slowly from deserted dirt roads to busy highways to the even busier parking area of the airport.
Would Killua even recognize him? Would he be able to recognize Killua? He’d like to think so, but then again, people always said celebrities look different face-to-face than on TV. His heart was beating hard and fast against his chest, but a smile never left his face, strained in anticipation of the best kind.
Mito sat down in a designated waiting area, exhausted from a long drive. She considered asking Gon to sit down as well but disregarded the thought as he fidgeted and started to pace again. Excess energy needs to be let out somehow.
“The plane has already landed, right? Shouldn’t he be here already?” he blurted out, nervously bouncing on his heels.
“He’s probably still waiting for his luggage, things like this take ti-“
“Gon!” Mito got cut off by a voice that shouted his name in such a familiar way, so recognizable that it was almost startling.
He whipped around, and his eyes caught onto the silver hair in the distance immediately. There was Killua. He looked like he had just jumped out of any of the pictures that Gon had ever seen of him, messy hair, bright eyes, pale skin, and a confident yet laidback smile.
It took about 5 seconds before Gon had cleared the distance between them, and he wrapped his arms around the other boy in a big hug. Killua hesitated for a moment, before he returned the hug, and patted Gon on the shoulder.
“It’s really you!”
“Who else could it be?” Killua snorted.
“I don’t know! But it’s still so weird to, just, have you here now!”
They spent what felt like an eternity looking at each other, laughed and giggled and commented on each other’s features, more defined than any picture could do. Killuas eyes sparkled in the low airport light, and Gon tried to burn every detail of his face into his memory, his long eyelashes, the creases of his eyes, and his sharp smile. Everything looked so natural, so right, and Gons heart stumbled over itself.
“So, would you like to introduce your friend to me, Gon?” As Mito spoke up, both boys pulled out of the hug with a jump.
Killua quickly held out his hand and stood straight, “I’m Killua, thank you so much for letting me stay over for a bit, miss. It’s nice to meet you.”
She shook his hand with a giggle. “You can just call me Mito or Auntie, alright? And it’s nice to meet you too, thank you for getting along so well with this little troublemaker.”
Gon felt heat rush to his cheeks but couldn’t bark a complain before Mito ruffled a hand through his hair. “How about we all grab something to eat, and then had home. You must be starving, Killua. Do you like burgers?”
The boys cheered in unison, and the group headed towards a fast-food chain.
And if Gon didn’t notice how easily he and Killua fell into step next to each other, too deeply invested in conversation about flights and food and seemingly the entire world, Mito surely did.

A Hunter’s Prey: The Meaning of Friendship
Illumi lied to me. He was not back the next day. It was the first day he missed a visit with me. The full 24 hours felt too long. Every moment was filled with anger as he didn’t return. I don’t have much to look forward to beyond his visit. I’d finished the book so long ago that I was planning out sequels and trilogies in my head to keep me preoccupied.
The sun was setting into a deep purple before there was a knock at my door. Illumi never knocked. He had always barged into the room as if he owned it. Yet he did own it.
“Who's there?” I ask while inching closer to the backboard of the bed. I’ve grown accustomed to the feeling of wood against my back. The fear dipped down in my heart once again. Illumi stated that I shouldn’t meet his family yet. If I did, then something must’ve happened.
“It’s alright Y/N. Illumi told me to bring you food.” The voice was quiet and polite. It sounded nothing like Illumi. A mere child within the halls of this forsaken place. A child was bringing me my food. I must be in a terrible place.
The door opened slowly to reveal a small child. They had the same black hair that Illumi had. It  was cut short  like a bob that went to the shoulders. They were wearing a similar style of clothing that I was wearing at that point.
I couldn’t remember which brother Illumi said wore this style. The days ran together like passing cars when driving. They blurred into thin lines of my mind until they were almost indistinguishable from the last. The only memories that stayed in my mind were the ones with Illumi, and those were starting to mull together.
I pulled against my chains to meet the boy at the end of the bed. Truly I was craving any semblance of human interaction. “You must be Illumi’s brother,” I said reaching out my hand. I doubt he would take it. I wouldn’t if I were in his shoes. “You’re the one that I borrowed clothes from, right?”
He looked at me with a curious stare. It is almost the same as Illumi’s except there was more curiosity than malice. I’m guessing that the look ran in the family and grew darker with age. “It’s very beautiful. I really appreciate it.”
The boy set the food down next to me on the bed. It was like he was given specific orders to do so over actually handing them to me. “Kalluto.” His voice was so quiet. It truly was what I expected an assassin to sound like. Quiet yet determined.
His name was like an olive branch. The Zoldyck family was so secretive. There were very few pictures of their faces, a few mentions of names spread throughout the land, and even less information on the family. They were a whisper only captured by the victims and those used them. “It’s nice to meet you. Thank you for the food.” I bowed slightly to this young child.
As swiftly as he came, he was gone. Within the instant I took my eyes off of him, I saw him leave. Kalluto. He was like school children that became quiet when confronted with new situations. As of the two Zoldycks I’ve met, they’ve had different personalities. How could a family striving for the same goal end up with different personalities? The more I learned of this family, the more I craved to know. If I was stuck here, then I could learn about them.
------------------------------------------
Sleeping was starting to become a challenge. To pass the days faster, I’d been accustomed to sleeping whenever I felt bored or angry. It was a coping mechanism. It was a terrible one but it kept me complacent. I woke up to another book sitting on the table. It was one from my house. One that I had yet to read because I’d just picked it up from the corner store. My friend gave me the recommendation, and I finally decided to take her up on the offer.
A knot formed in my stomach. My friends. My old life. All of it washed away by Illumi. He still hasn’t said what he wants from me. I have no money, fame, or adoration. My life was solely consumed with my job and friends. Both of which I may never see again.
I was only two chapters into the book when Illumi arrived. “I should bring you more books,” he said. His words made me jump as I did not notice his return. He seemed more relaxed today. His straight, jet-black hair was tied back into a long ponytail. His normal clothes were replaced with some casual sweats.
“You didn’t see me yesterday.” I knew I was acting clingy but what else was I supposed to hold onto. “Were you too busy?”
“I had a job.” It was his catchphrase whenever he was busy. It’s not like he has a girl tied up like a dog on a chain. I set my book to the side and look at him. I knew his jobs were killing but the casual nature seemed like it was a small business call rather than a massacre.
“Kalluto seems nice. I’m guessing he’s as deadly as you.” Illumi finally took a seat. This time he sat at the edge of the bed.
“Of course. We all are.”
“Would you mind telling me about your brothers?” Illumi’s blank expression made me retract. “That is if you have time. I would like to call them by their names if they drop by.”
He paused for a moment. I could tell he was thinking. Illumi was always thinking to make sure every movement was cautious and calculated. “There’s me, Milluki, Killua, then Kalluto.”
“You’re the oldest? That must be really difficult in this family.” His eyes shifted to the door. It was the only time he’s ever taken his eyes off of me. I was confused as it seemed like an easy assumption. “I’m sorry if that was too far.”
“Would you want to meet them?” He asked.
His casual question caught me off guard. Why would a prisoner want to meet the family that would most likely kill them? Why would Illumi want me to meet his family? Am I nothing but a prisoner locked in the basement waiting for death?
“Yes.”
My mind was racing from my answer. I said it too quickly. I wanted to know more about the family. I wanted to know more about my situation. If I were to become friends with the family then maybe I could live? Or I’d die quickly. Each of these options were favorable to being stuck in a pit of mindless dribble.
“Killua is out at the moment.”
“Where did he go?”
“He’s trying to be friends with another boy. It won’t last long and he’ll be back soon enough.”
“How’s that any different than what you’ve done to me?” I’ve noticed that this is the longest conversation we’ve had. Killua must be a sore spot for him because Illumi finally stood to leave. Had I offended him?
He walked to the door but did not shut it. “It is different. Dinner will be tonight. I’ll come get you when ready.” The door closed behind him.
Killua. Why did he mean so much to him? I wanted to ask so many other questions but they all got caught in my throat. I was going to meet the family even if it would kill me.

Year written: 2013 Characters: Gon, Killua Summary:  Gon and Killua see each other after 2 years of being apart. Will they stay together again? Post Chimera Ant Arc. A/N: I think I wrote all of these after reading the manga. The impact it had on me was indescribable. I am still breaking, as we speak. Note: Killua’s narrating. Reference song was “For The First Time” by The Script
--
Yes, it was one hell of a rollercoaster ride for me—like I’ve been thrown down the darkest abyss, but I would find some sort of heaven in there. I did not know what and where it had led me, but making that decision is one of the huge steps I knew I had to take to go on with my life, to grow as a person, as a man, as a brother, and as a friend. It was hard, probably the hardest decision I needed to make in my lifetime. Regrets? Sometimes, yes, but looking at that blissful smile on my sister’s face, the heavy load of sorrow and rue somehow fades—little by little. But the pain of two years ago still stings.
Letting go; I found out that I’m not used to that kind of thing, especially if it’s on something I wanted to own forever—something that I wanted to own… but was not even mine to begin with. What a lame excuse for never wanting to cut a thick well-knotted rope with a person you deeply have a connection with. But it’s true. Gon…
Meeting Gon in the Hunter Exam was strange and new. It was the first time I ever spoke with a person my age that long. I don’t know, I just felt… comfortable at that time. That was maybe because he’s the same age as me? I don’t think so. He was like this never ending ray of sunshine, you know. Whenever I see him, whenever I’m with him, whenever he’s just there, I feel this sudden boost of energy. He’s like a huge pill of energy. Gon led me from my solitude. He was my light, a very stubborn one, and he will remain as that until forever.
And I couldn’t believe it. I know I was happy. Me being with Alluka, I was happy, certainly. But I couldn’t believe it. It came back—that feeling like when Milluki had told me that Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio came to see me, that feeling I had, though I was inside my cold and numb self, when my chest started choking me to death because of the warm rush of excitement that came tickling my dead emotionless nerves all of a sudden, when I suddenly had the urge to smile without me even knowing it. It was completely different from the joy I feel whenever I was with Alluka.
Did I hear it right?
“Onii-chan…!”
Yeah, it was Alluka. I may have mistaken that to something I was thinking about. But my ears never lie. Alluka was calling me, I know, but her voice was somehow faint. All of the other noises were also faint. Being a trained professional in the art of assassination, I have known to detect a distinct sound even in the largest mob of talking people, and I was sure I heard something at that time. I looked around, quite desperately, and searched. The rush of excitement was still there—that same feeling…
The people around the market were a blur. Alluka’s silhouette was distinct in my vision, but I wasn’t in full attendance to her. I subconsciously grabbed her wrist and pulled her close while I was doing a little parameter check around the town. The familiar sound of running footsteps made the corners of my lips curve on its own. Ah… And as I turned around, my sunrays shined on me again, and I felt my heart sinking deeply into my chest in awe. It was beating fast with excitement—like a drum was planted on every part of my body. It was as though I drank that huge pill of energy again. And I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe that my happiness was locked away in a dark room inside my emotions, and I couldn’t believe that the key to that room is still hidden inside those pure bright hazel eyes.
“Killua!”
I smiled, quite dumbly, but I didn’t care. I didn’t see anyone at that time but that boy—that man—my best friend, running towards me, looking at nothing else but me, calling my name. I chuckled while watching him stumble upon an old lady. That same innocent apologetic sheepish laugh remained in him after all these years. I chuckled more, feeling my heart punching my lungs even wilder than before. Finishing with the apologies, he looked at me and gave me same wide candid smile he had. I did the same. He ran, and paused in front of me.
We stood there for a while, staring at each other, familiarizing ourselves with the new developments in our faces with each sharing a quirky smile. I took a deep breath and nodded once, trying to pull up a straight face. He did the same thing.
“Gon.”
“Killua.”
A staring contest began. I did not know the point of it but we were seriously just staring at each other while holding back a huge smile. And after a few seconds, we laughed, like the old times, while pointing at each other. The memories I had with Gon were suddenly lit vividly inside my head and it played there for a while.
“I’m Killua.”
“I’m Gon!”
“Then let’s stay together!”
“Thank you, Killua. Coming here with you, no, meeting you… was a really fortunate thing.”
“Killua. It has to be Killua!”
. . .
“See you later!”
We both took a deep breath and now looked at each other formally. There wasn’t any awkwardness at all between us. It’s just like before, like when we see each other during the Hunter Exam, like when we meet after each fight in Heaven’s Arena, like just… seeing each other again after a few seconds of separation—only now we’re taller, and older, and stronger.
“It’s been a long time, ne!” Gon started, talking with that familiar energetic tone of his voice, only lower tuned, while glancing at me and smiling at Alluka with his beaming bright eyes.
I looked at my sister. She was smiling and seemed really happy to see Gon again. This made that feeling in my chest turn from pure excitement into awe. “Yeah,” I said, looking back at Gon and giving him the most candid smile my excited facial muscles could ever manage. “And wow, you actually grew taller.”
He gave me a candid smile in exchange. “Hehe~ I could surpass you in height.”
I gave a playful sneer. “Nope, no, not a chance.”
He pouted. Ah yes, that’s Gon for you, alright. “So, what are you doing here?” He smiled again.
I pulled Alluka closer. “What do you think we’re doing? Touring the world, of course.”
Gon laughed. “You still talk like Killua, Killua.”
Normally, this would piss me off for some unknown reason. But Gon’s laugh and the moment was too precious to ruin. “Well, you still act like Gon, Gon.”
He stopped with a smile and stared me in the eyes again. It would look like he wanted to tell me something, but was hesitating, or rather at lost for words. I just knew, because I was feeling the same.
I took another deep breath as I thought it was necessary. “Well, what are you doing here?”
“We’re on a mission.”
We… That piercing pain in the chest replaced the joyous one, and the feeling of sorrow and rue came back, hitting me with its best shot. I sort of wanted to be in that ‘we’—be that someone again, his partner in battle, his partner in everything. I smiled to show how proud I was of him at the same time smiled to help heal my fractured ego.
“I also wanted you to meet Ging but he ran off from me again.” Gon frowned a little.
My eyes grew wide. “Again!?”
He nodded then gave that same bright smile. “Yeah, but it’s all fine because he’s actually in the next region we’ll fly to. Our mission is awesome, Killua! We get to fight cool monsters with strange looking faces and be in different new places and all. Do you want to—”
“Gon! We’re leaving!”
I snapped my head towards a group of strange looking people by one corner then shifted my gaze back at Gon who was looking at them too with a slight frown on his face. How I wish I could say ‘Let’s go, Gon!’ at that time. I batted my eyes and gave a huge smile on the face.
Gon turned his gaze on me again. He smiled. Killua, do you want—”
“Go, Gon,” I ushered, grasping Alluka’s wrist and pulling her close again. I smiled at him with reassurance.
A frown was visible on his face but it was obvious he was trying to not let his lips fall into a concave curve. He smiled and looked at me straight in the eyes, his irises gleaming like crystals soaked in water. He took a deep breath. “I miss you, Killua.”
I flashed a smile. It wasn’t forced, it wasn’t from instinct, it came from deep within me, but my chest felt heavier than before. “Yeah, me too. I miss you too, Gon.”
Something was pricking my chest as I watch Gon run off while shouting ‘See you later!’ and waving a hand at us. He was fading again, but the pricking and the piercing was overshadowed by a greater entity—a new and bright one. It was like me breaking out of my assassin ways by taking the Hunter Exam; there was that pricking and piercing feeling in my chest at that time, but it disappeared because of Gon. When I met him that time; today, it felt like meeting him for the first time… again.

How do you think the adult trio would have been had they a chance to grow up in a normal stable family? Are their behaviors (mostly) a product of nature or nurture?
This is actually a very good question. I honestly believe that, inmost cases, nurture wins against nature. I’ll try to give my analysis ofeach case. Now, I just read a little about psychology for fun (and because I loveit), I’m not an expert and this is how I see things. It doesn’t mean, at all, that I am right.

Hisoka
The whole fandom agrees that something happened to Hisoka and verylikely made him into what he is today, but how much of this is connectedto the present is anyone’s guess. I think I mentioned how I noticed that Machi thought that Hisoka doesn’t talk about the “past” (being specific about it) and how hedisplays a desire to be in control of his own life, to the point he doesn’t open up to people (which seems to be more related to his personality ratherthan lifestyle). Also, note that Hisoka is part of the main characters (not the core ones, but important enough) and yet, nothing about his past has everbeen shown or mentioned. Even with the Spiders we at least had a briefflashback of Chrollo and some explanation about the Meteor City, which can give us some ideas of how things were for those who grew up there. Heck, Togashi has told us the background of characters that are not as much part of the main plot.
With Hisoka? Nope, nada, zero. The guy may as well have fallen from thesky with his Nen activated and searching for an opponent.
It keeps going back to Hisoka’s past. Contrary to Pariston, whoseems to be a born sociopath (perhaps even a complete psychopath), this makes me think that something seems to have pushed Hisoka. Even we can’t besure of how much of what he has displayed is genuine or a façade that he keeps around others (we have rarely seen him by himself) or the levels of disordershe seems (or most certainly) has.
Is it all connected to his past? We have no means of knowing. Hehas an intense bloodthirst and is always seeking opponents. Hey, maybe he was into fighting since he was a child anyway. He seems uninterested in formingbonds with people. Has he been betrayed at some point? Has he experienced atraumatic loss? We don’t know.
However, I do think most (if not all of it) is connected tosome event, if only for how twisted Hisoka is. So, it follows that if his life hadbeen different, if he had had a safe and stable environment, he would not bethe same he is today.
Would he still be into fighting? Possibly. I, at least, find it hard to imagine Hisoka not into fighting, though he wouldn’t be that much of a sadist (even if it remained his “call”) and might have emotional bonds with others regardless of their strength (he wouldn’t judge people based on this). Depending on his “family” and other events, he might have been a man who would actually use his Nen in order to help others.

Illumi
Definitely yes. No question about it. We just have to look at thewhole Zoldyck family and Illumi’s own behavior and words in several occasions. For crying out loud, Killua was chained and whipped when he returned home (itdoesn’t matter if he broke the chains and his pain tolerance is high, thegesture alone is disturbing by its very nature and the insight it gives us tothe workings of the Zoldyck as a family does not paint them in a positivelight). Besides, with Illumi being the eldest, it is very possible his trainingwas even more severe due to being only child for a while and future head of thefamily, until Silva and Kikyo decided Killua would be the better option.
Just for a note, see the rest of the Zoldyck children as well… Alluka hasbeen caged almost all her life (and later she asked Killua if everyone elsewould be happier if she was dead basically), Milluki is just as focused in the familygoals and wants to please/impress his parents (he once seemed afraid of hisfather. Respect is something, fear is another), while appearing to almost neverleave the mansion. Kalluto shares a few similarities with Illumi and is also asadist that enjoys prolonging a fight just for his own amusement… While the Zoldycksclaim to love each other and maybe do/believe so, we cannot look at them andsay they aren’t toxic people (except Killua and Alluka, who got to break thecycle and escape) or that those children are examples of a healthy upbringing.
Does it all connect to the family’s “teachings”? Yes. And the fact theyare assassins doesn’t excuse any of this. If Togashi wanted, he could have madethe Zoldycks to be as dangerous as they are while having a far more stable/lovingrelationship between each other. There is a reason why this isn’t the case.
Illumi reached a point when being… Well, the way he is, is already hisnature and for what we can see, it is entirely connected to his family and whathe has been taught or rather, molded into being. I don’t even think thereis any hope for him. If you take away the “teachings” and “assassin business”,there is nothing left in Illumi. Whoever he was or whoever he could have beenis lost forever, there is only this walking, breathing result of years of training. And we all got a glimpse that he may not be as stable as we came to believe…
If Killua hadn’t been strongenough to break away from them, he might end up the same or even worse than his“big brother”.
So, if his family was different, then he would have been different. Forone, his displays of “affection” would not be tainted by the obsession withcontrol and his love for his siblings would be genuine. Somecharacteristics of his might remain (since we know nothing of how he was orcould have been), but he would be a far more stable person and even if he wasto become an assassin, he would have more morals. He surely wouldn’t be againstKillua choosing another path in life (hell, he might even want somethingbetter for his little brother) or having friends.

 Chrollo
For some reason, I always feel that Chrollo ends up standing somewherebetween the extremes that Hisoka and Illumi represent and the same applieshere, though it is more about how (little) we know of Chrollo’s life and evenhis ending goals. It is more than we know regarding Hisoka, but not as much as we know of Illumi. While writing this, I found myself oscillating between “yes”and “no”. Out of the three of them, Chrollo at times ends up being the hardestto analyze depending on the subject…
Is Chrollo a born sociopath who is using the unfairness of society as anexcuse to achieve his own personal goals and act upon his own bloodthirst orhas this unfairness pushed him into taking what he considers a necessary attitudedue to lack of any other option?
I think, in the end, there is something seriously wrong withChrollo. The things he has done are far too extreme… Perhaps he is even moretwisted than Hisoka or Illumi.
We know he started the Phantom Troupe but while we can guess the main reasonsfor that, we have yet to actually hear them and also what Chrollo hopesto ultimately achieve with his actions (due to his behavior, it seems improbablehe doesn’t have anything like that and is truly “just” a thief. In a way, itseems to be that this is a means towards a bigger end). We know he came fromMeteor City… And what has been shown of it is pretty depressing. That is not aplace that seems to offer chances of a good life, being basically a “junkyard city”and people there don’t even have official records of existence. It is a way ofsaying they there are also unwanted trash. So, we can assume that Chrollo’slife has not been easy.
And with everything we know of Chrollo directly connected to the Spider, it’shard to dissociate one from the other. What has turned him into what he istoday exactly?
Like Hisoka and Illumi, Chrollo has no care for human beings and evensaid he sees no difference between them and a puppet but does care for theother members of the Spider. And when returning home, the Troupe faced theChimera Ants, so the city is also the only other thing that matters for them ina personal level. Regardless of the sort of place that is, it is their home.Other than that, we don’t know of Chrollo’s story, parents or childhood. All we have are our own ideas and the options are many.
Honestly, just living in the Meteor City is not quite enough explanationfor his whole behavior, though: Many people go through harsh lives, awful situations, abuse or torture (be emotional, physical or mental) and do not end up like him. Hell, from what we’ve seen, Leorio came from a poorbackground, saw his friend die (when he could have been saved, just to twistthe knife) and is actually the opposite of Chrollo, someone who wants to save lives.
I’m not saying the misery of living in the Meteor City played nopart in who Chrollo is, let alone dismissing how horrible it must have been!Poverty is hell. Having to chose between buying food and paying the bills, being unable to afford medicine, those are hell enough, imagine how it musthave been in a city like that then! And sometimes, people get to the limit whenthey see no way out but to go to an extreme that they wouldn’t go otherwise.
What I mean here is that, for what Chrollo has displayed, there may verywell be something more that made him turn into someone who torturesothers with such lack of empathy or remorse. For all we know, he may haveexperienced a traumatic event or loss, perhaps not very different from Leorio’s.
I think most, if not all of the situation, end up related to the creationof the Spider but I’m unsure of how much of it is connected to Chrollo’s personality. Even people from a loving, stable and healthy environment can end up twisted and this is not the parents’ (or anyone’s) fault. You can searchin the lives for the trigger that made them into sadistic killers and you won’tfind anything. Some people are just born psychopaths.
With Illumi and Hisoka is easier to be sure due to the motivations they display, their own desires and attitudes and the information we have onthem. Chrollo’s motivations are intertwined with the Spider, so much that he hasstated that it and what it represents are above his own life. This last detailmakes it hard to consider he is using the Spider as an excuse for hisown goals, but… What if he is lying and manipulating the others? It’s not easyto tell.
Now, personally speaking, I think we need more information about him asa person and of his life before the creation of the Spider to be completelysure… Would he have been better if the circumstances of his life weredifferent? It is very possible. Would he have been a criminal anyway, if onlywith some differences? Also possible.
When he talks about the Spider, I lean towards the first option… But thereare some moments, such as when Gon asked him how he could kill people who havenothing to do with him and how Senritsu reacted to his heartbeat that make meseriously lean towards the second one…
