My Lava Lamp brightens up my room.      CH. 1  FIELDWORK

My Lava lamp. I picked my Lava lamp because I feel that it’s familiar but unfamiliar. After all, it's a lamp but it's not expected because it's a lava lamp. A lava lamp isn't too familiar because when u think of a lamp you don't think of lava in a lamp. The Lava Lamp was made in the late 1960s. The lamp was invented by Edward Craven Walker, a British accountant. Edward determined the perfect design to install a light bulb as a heat source. He got his source from a settlement on a bottle called Orange Squash, a drink he had In England. In 1948 after Craven saw an egg timer in a bar in Hampshire, England made of a glass shaker placed in a pan with a boiling egg. He spent some time working for a British-American Tobacco Company followed by his service with the Royal Air Force during World War  II. After his discharge from the RAF, he moved to London and began to develop his own home exchange travel business. Walker lived long enough to see his lava lamps’ revival; he died in Ringwood, Hampshire, England, on August 15, 2000, at the age of 82. Craven Walker lamp is made with water and wax. The secret ingredient is the solvent carbon tetrachloride which adds weight to the otherwise buoyant wax. The heat source comes from the bottom of the lamp and it liquefies the blob. The density decreases and it rises to the top where it's cool and it sinks back down. Walker’s Company was manufacturing millions of Astro Lamps as he called them. Mathmos is the only official manufacturer of the Lava Lamp in the UK; and Haggerty Enterprises, which in 1976 acquired rights to produce Lava Brand Motion Lamps, is the only manufacturer of the original lava lamp in the United States. In 1965 he sold the U.S manufacturing rights to a company called Lava Lite. The impact that it has on my life is that it lights up my room. My Lamp also reminds me of myself. When the Lava Lamp is plugged in it shines bright and moves all day but when it's unplugged it doesn’t move and isn't lit. When I don’t feel motivated or ambitious, I don't move; even if I do move, I am not bright. I think I resemble the Lava Lamp a lot and it’s just like me in an unfamiliar way.

Lava Lamps today are made by mixing alcohol and water and mineral oil and dyes, combining each separately. When mixing the water and alcohol in the correct amount, the mineral oil can be made to float. Bryan Katzel is the VP of product development of Schylling, which makes Lava Brand lava lamps. What Katzel left out are chemicals that alter the density of the liquid and density is everything when it comes to lava lamps. Bryan started Warpo at the end of 2013 with him and his closest two friends who had been in the toy industry and were also lifelong toy collectors. He saw an opportunity to create retro collectibles in a way that hadn't been done before by working with artists making products back then. They thought why to keep using these same licenses over and over when you can explore things.

Before I start season 3 of The 100, let me share the fics I read while watching season 2. This time, my focus was never on the ships. I mostly wanted to see the original 100 show the “adults” who should be the leaders and all. Then some romantic stories got in the way  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So let’s get on with it...

Like Real People Do by @ask-ladyofrosefire​ - Clarke x Bellamy. This is a nice series of fics post season 2. Clarke is not well, Bellamy is not well, but they are trying to be strong and it’s nice to see them trusting each other. 

they take their shots, but we’re bulletproof by nightshifted - Clarke x Lexa. This one was a rec I received, and it is very beautiful and soft. Clarke trying to heal after season 2 with Lexa’s help. 

Sent to Die by @noiseinallthequietspaces - Raven. This is really short but I loved it so much. Raven telling Abby where her loyalties lie.

Fighting Dragons With You by winterwaters - Clarke x Bellamy. This is a what-if Bellamy’s infiltration at Mt Weather hadn’t worked out. How would Clarke save him. 

The Discovery of Kindness by queenofchildren - Clarke x Bellamy. The original 100 got tired of following the Ark orders and decided to create a camp/village of their own. This one is soft.

Ave Caeser by katzell - Clarke x Bellamy (but mostly friendship). Set early season 2, when nobody was doing anything to save the 47 still on Mt Weather. I needed a whole long fic of this one, it’s so good.

survival is second nature by @fuzzy-paint​ - Clarke being super badass, set after she and Anya escaped Mt Weather, au from Anya’s death.

Just a little late by ferggirl - Clarke trying to deal with Finn killing all those people on her name.
