#Throwbackthursday to April 23rd #BluesRock super album #BadderToTheBone "crushing" #musicreview from my hometown #DetroitBluesSociety 🧱 "#ElizaNeals “Badder To The Bone” crushes it! Don’t be fooled Eliza Neals’ latest release, “Badder To The Bone” (E-H Records) brims with original blues-rock-nine out of ten to be exact. From the first track- a #BoDiddley beater titled “#UnitedWeStand” - Neals’ #sultryvoice digs in and doesn’t let the listener forget whose record this is. Wrapped in smoke and velvet, gravel and silk, it cuts through the rich instrumental fury and sticks with you after each song ends, like a pleasant aftertaste in your ear. Then standout track on “Badder to the Bone” is “#QueenoftheNile” (from whence the releases title is birthed), which I first heard on SiriusXM’s B.B. Kings #Bluesville channel-always a good sign. #Guitarsolo aficionados will love #LanceLopez’ labor, but don’t forget to listen for #PeterKeys’ effective #HammondB3 work. And-bonus!-the release includes two versions of the #slowblues thriller. Other strengths on this blues-rock showcase include the #rumba -flavored “#BucketofTears”, Detroit's #BillyDavis’ unmistakable guitar on “#GotAGun” , #MichaelPuwals’ slide work on “#FuelingMeUp”, and the flexible #keyboard interplay on “#Heathen”, featuring Neals on piano and #JohnGalvin on #B3. Nine originals with one cover of excellent #soulful, sensuous, low-slow, and rib meat-rocking blues. First tune up for me is called “#QueenoftheNile,” which features a guest, namely #Texasnative #LanceLopez on lead guitar! Having worked with Lance a few years ago, I just knew this would be good. Some nice bluesy licks leading in, and it’s where you start diggin’ her voice. A little coarse, but so fine, and also soft but sultry, sweet and sassy… all of the above! It’s only the 2nd cut but Lance is already the coup de-tat. Dark and smokey, this one would be great to hear last in a set and then we can all head out for a much needed break... I really appreciated her serenades over the phone throughout our conversation!... Eliza is coming and it’s hard, hot and heavy. We can use a blues #songstress to carry us on, and she is it💣 Terrific release from a #terrificperformer. So there you have it.
