Re: Your post about Mitch and the hat...I NEED to know how many conversations he and Steph have had in the last 6+ months about whether or not Mitch can wear the hat to the wedding, and how many times Steph has responded with an exasperated, "Mitch, we've talked about this. The hat clashes with the color scheme!"

oh my god. there's just. there's just so much to think about.

you're absolutely RIGHT. poor steph has told mitch at least 20 times (it really ALL began during their italy vacation. steph saw mitch's eyes descend upon this hat for the first time. steph saw mitch's tail start wagging so hard the tail basically started wagging mitch. steph saw the sparkle of pure euphoria in mitch's eyes and immediately said "mitch. i swear to god you're only going to wear this hat during our vacation and only ONCE with your pre-game suit and ONLY IF auston agrees to wear matching hats."

and mitch readily agreed at the time ofc because he GOT TO WEAR HIS SPECIAL LITTLE HAT EVERYDAY in Europe! with a linen suit that didn't match the hat, with a t-shirt and shorts that didn't match the hat. with green eggs and ham that didn’t match the hat etc.

anyway, now that Mitch's hat has BREACHED ITALIAN BORDERS and has made an appearance on his head IN CANADA, at his OWN ENGAGEMENT PARTY, you know that steph's "DITCH the hat MITCH" campaign is going into overdrive

steph brings the hat up every 2 weeks (she has a recurring event set up on her iphone calendar), and everytime she does, mitch just gives her a wounded look and says "but babe, u said blue brings out the color of my eyes :( :(."

if the "talk about this like a civlized human being training a dog" phase of the "ditch the hat mitch" campaign doesn't work out, steph will have no choice but to escalate things to the next phase, which involves simply throwing out the hat when mitch isn't there.

unfortunately, mitch is prepared for this and most likely has at LEAST 5 more of these identical hats stashed away in the Maple Leafs' lockerroom (3 in his, 2 in Auston's).

I think while we're on the topic of Mitch's hats, my Theory of Mitch's hats warrants some discussion:

Mitch only started wearing these fancy hats because of Auston. remember during their rookie year when they both showed up in near-identical outfits with near-identical HATS? I think that's when this all started. Mitch's 2.5 neurons imprinted on this moment and now he thinks all he needs is a fancy little hat to elevate any outfit to Auston-worthy stylishness (and we have ample evidence that suggests that Mitch considers Auston the pinnacle of fashion)

Mitch now keeps wearing hats out of solidarity with Auston and his receding hairline. It's just what a good linemate and emotional support twink does.

I am once again turning a simple ask into a long-winded dissertation about mitch marner so help me GOD. SORRY TO ALL OF YOU

OH ONE LAST THING - i can't remember where but i SWEAR auston once talked about how leo komarov made fun of mitch's hat so much during their rookie year he made mitch cry (i think this was said in jest to be fair. also i love leo for defending mitch against mike babcock. it's just a HILARIOUS IMAGE TO THINK ABOUT)? So if we as a Community of People with Discerning Taste really want mitch to stop wearing that enlarged dinner plate on his head, we know we at least have a tried and true solution!!!!!
