Cognitive Nutrition
Cognition nutrition is thought by many Dieticians as a food trend which is likely to become increasingly popular. As we live, protecting the brain is becoming just as important as the body, and what we eat matters more and more.
The diet is based on a low carbohydrate version of the Mediterranean diet, with specific foods and ingredients to boost mental function.
A report on future diet trends highlights research showing that 37 per cent of consumers now consider food not just an energy source but a “tool” to reach their mental goals. The study states the pandemic is driving demand for products that support mental health and resilience.
Many studies have shown that a poor diet, including those high in sugar, can lead to poor mental health. The food you eat can affect your mood, memory, and behaviour, making you feel irritable and tired. Ready meals and processed foods, such as baked beans, sauces, and pizzas, are all high in sugar and salt and can have a negative effect on the brain.
A number of foods specifically beneficial to cognitive functioning include blueberries, broccoli, kale, spinach and rocket, which all improve memory and focus, while fatty fish provides omega-3 fatty acids, which the brain uses to build nerve cells.
Pumpkin and sunflower seeds are full of minerals such as magnesium, zinc, iron, and copper, which help with nerve signalling. Sunflower seeds are very high in B1, which is important for memory and cognition.
It is thought the diet originated in Silicon Valley as employees working long hours saw the power of increasing their brain capacity. They realised by manipulating their diet and increasing healthy fats maybe they could do five hours’ work in two hours.
There are also quicker ways to boost your cognitive abilities when you need them most. Dr Josephine Perry, a psychologist specialising in high performance, always tells her clients to have a small portion of glucose or caffeine – or both – before they have an important event such as a speech or job interview.
Even if your overall diet hasn’t been perfect, the sugar hit will give your brain a boost in a stressful situation. Caffeine, meanwhile, reduces the perception of effort. Pour yourself another coffee and you can work that little bit harder without even noticing.
Conclusion
As with all lifestyle choices around diet and what we put into our mouths, it is important to weigh up the pros and cons of the diet and how long you're intending to continue with it.
Most diets are based on us wanting to hit a goal. They are there to help us manage and control our weight. Once you have acquired the weight you're happy with, it is important to work on keeping a healthy lifestyle. Too much weight loss can result in different health issues, primarily relating to organ function, particularly if the weight loss is too dramatic or cause for concern.
It is important to be sensible with your choices. Always consult a physician or doctor before starting any weight loss plan.

Studies indicate that individuals who walk quickly could be less happy, which could be related to their goal-oriented and introverted personality traits. Although their productivity and motivation might help them succeed, they can also be prone to sadness when faced with obstacles. Furthermore, fast walkers frequently exhibit perfectionist inclinations, especially under specific circumstances.
