Something I think a lot of ppl forget when they’re dealing with suicidal people is that a lot of us are suicidal because we can’t afford or access basic needs, let alone creature comforts.

Before sending your suicidal friend to the mental hospital to maybe be severely traumatized by even less autonomy and also potentially lose their jobs and housing, have you:

-spent time with them so they’re not alone with their thoughts and organized a care group of their friends to help take care of tasks that are overwhelming?

-made a post or group chat to raise funds for bills that are looming and making them feel like they’ll never be able to succeed at life? Tried to help connect them with resources? Offered to sit down with them while they make calls? Offered to take a look at their debt and see if it can be refinanced? Etc, based on your skills, who you know, what you have the resources and comfort and closeness with the person to allow

-taken them to do some fun things? Gotten them out of their house and into the sun?

-gotten them something sweet or comforting or good smelling or whatever? A simple $5 candle can be a reason for someone to smile and feel cared about.

-gotten them tools to manage their sensory needs? Are they over or under stimulated? I will become immediately suicidal if I hear too many sounds while hungry or tired or upset or overheated or or or

I’m not saying the hospital is never the answer. I’m not saying don’t take people who are immediately in danger. I’m not saying you have to do this for people who are behaving in a way that will hurt you. But if you care about someone who is suicidal, this is something to think about.

I have literally been suicidal for as long as I can remember (and I remember a lot of my very early childhood) and some of the small things that have legitimately kept me alive over the years include:

-my friends buying me noise canceling headphones

-my friends taking me on a vacation

-my partner letting me read out loud to them when they were playing video games every night

-my friends buying my art or sending me money to help pay bills, get my car fixed, etc

-my sister giving me rides to my doctor appointments and buying me a little treat afterwards

-my friends sharing their audible/netflix/hulu/libby accounts with me so i had something to focus on other than wanting to die

-friends taking me out to dinner and letting me talk about my special interests

-my friend giving me houseplants and teaching me how to keep them alive, which required spending quality time together whenever I needed to learn something new and gave them an excuse to bully me into leaving my depression nest when nobody else could

-my friend buying me a vape when I was breaking apart and had nothing to do with my hands and nothing to calm my very upset nervous system and $2 in the bank and also I was going through withdrawals

-my friend teaching me how to drive and helping me get my license so I could have some autonomy

Like it really can be that simple. We sometimes forget that therapy and meds can only do so much at a time, and some people get treatment for their entire lives and still struggle a lot even when they do everything right, especially when they’re dealing with complicated issues like other disabilities, chronic pain, poverty, abusive situations/ongoing trauma, etc.

there's a post in the tag about someone wishing to see more Omar in D20 and I agree, but it also reminded me about how a year ago a few RPG streamers I like started Power Play, and I never ended up watching it, and I just recently learned that Omar was in that and I could have seen what an awesome player he was long ago if I just had watched it

and then I got to thinking about how many cool actual plays are out there that don't have the budget that Dimension 20 or Critical Role have, but tell really cool stories with really good players regardless! And a lot of these players deserve recognition, but there's so little space to showcase new players for audiences who only watch D20 or CR

the way the most recent pokemon games don't let you turn off the exp share or the affection mechanic bonuses is nothing short of maddening. i think they make great accessibility features If Only They Were Optional and the flavour text is cute, but i want to have a fun casual playthrough that's at least mildly challenging without having to make it a nuzlocke or something. i don't want to feed my starter bitter medicines to make her hate me :(

hm.. after giving it more thought i think i want elise to win this months sonic channel poll. its a tough choice because elise and merlina both only appeared in one game and havent been acknowledged since then but. sonic and the black knight had a mix of 2d and 3d cutscenes and elise has only ever appeared as a 3d model.. with that in mind i would really like to see a cute cartoony style drawing of elise. also considering the character thats already been decided to appear in the art is silver i think id rather see him interact with elise than merlina. also it would be so nice to see more sonic 06 acknowledgement that isnt just "haha wasnt this game terrible guys *insert picture of elise kissing sonic*" especially considering itll be portraying the most hated character from that game in a positive light. so yeah #elisesweep

pokemon has jaded me so much that when i go to kirby (which id easily claim is the special interest directly behind pokemon in my brain) im like automatically not expecting that much and im actually amazed in the end when it delivers like every time. man i really do need to play more video games. its hard when the only thing i have is a mac and a switch tho :(

i am so curiious what the online component of gta6 will be like, cause rdo not having near the level of success, earning potential, and longevity, and lacking a lot of the well loved and wanted features of gta online, is kinda evidence they might not know How to capture that lightning in the bottle again.

Cause so many games have tried to get a bit of that success by apeing gta online, but failing to meet the basic criteria/missing what it was that made the game so dang successful, and instead starting out as an entirely online predatory nightmare live service.

#like gta online started as a fun online offshoot that had more than enough to do immediately on release #it had enough to PROVE that it was worth investing the time into #it was also - importantly - fucking FREE #it was a like relatively small additioinal aspect of a very solid single player game #that exploded because it just did so mmuch right #it still earns ludicrous amounts of money every year #but the ability to play only with friends - to not engage with other players you do'nt know - to have a bunch of premade mini game types #that functioned on top of the vast array of open world gameplay #off the bat it was a good option #and then bcause of its success they developed it mmore #from what i know/what i remember (so might well be wrong) they didn't plan to continue to develop content for it like they have #they didn't set out with a road map to making a game worth playing #in the hopes of stringing you along long enough for the sunk cost fallacy to kick in #even though it's not fun and not worth it #the game was immedately solid with its core gameplay #obviously they refined it #playing it on 360 when it was fresh out vs playing on pc a few years ago were definitely different quality experiences #but they were both a lot of fun #the game didn't set out with a decades long road map to the hover cars and tron bikes #it just made a solid game and then started thinkng 'what can we add to keep them interested?' afterwards #it didn't start out with the promise of being slowly finished over months and years all while costing you a contnuous amount of money #likke so mmany games trying to ape the success and vibe did #even RDO fucking sucks in comparison #maybe it improved #but the one time i itried it the forced multiplayer mission before going into the forced open access lobby - no private or friends only - #wound up with me getting called racial slurs over voice chat it turned on by default in game #and there just wasn't enough interesting gameplay like mini games and fun encounters #this is't inspired by anything im sure gta6 is coming and saw some speculation about it #imm not going to get it cause i don't care about them and unless the online is v good i wont bother #but im going to guess they'll fuck it up

i have very complicated feelings when it comes to ds' games in megamix because it's like. they definitely did their best porting them to button controls. but they just don't feel the same without tapping n flicking. especially when it, for example, makes cosmic rhythm rally really easy n boring when compared to rhythm rally 2. part of what makes ds' games so fun in my opinion is the flicking controls. most of them are fine without them, but they're still more fun in ds. i'd still rather play lockstep n frog hop 2 n fan club 2 n all those games in ds than in megamix even though they're ported fine and well. they did the best they could with what they were given but it just doesn't feel the same n isn't anywhere near being on the same level.

#im so glad they delayed it skfjdkhd could you imagine if it came out a year earlier or whatever oh god #my posts #once i beat it i'll post more in depth opinions #but general first impressions is it's far from perfect but a lot of fun and a MASSIVE step in the right direction #and both sonic 1 and sonic adventure 1 were similarly experimental and varying in quality #though as of right now i still think i prefer adventure 1 #most likely this will end up being my 3rd favorite 3d sonic #which is so great becuase when we were first getting info about this game i did not have a lot of faith in it at allll #sometimes it feels so good to get proven wrong
