Irumyuui's wishes and the horrible, horrible way the Cradles of Desire granted them
The Cradles of Desire have been described as "monkey's paws," the phrase coming from the W. W. Jacobs short story where a monkey's preserved paw grants wishes with dark consequences. The Cradle of Desire doesn't grant one wish though, it grants desire(s) and the more desires you have in your heart, the more complicated the result will be hence the horror element. Wazu is told that children are best suited to use the Cradle, but children are often selfish and their minds change fast. This little detail dooms everyone.
Irumyuui was cast out her tribe because her womb couldn't produce children. This desire combined with her current desire to no longer be in pain so her body mutates. Her 2nd wish, never explicit but heavily implied, was for her foster mother Vueko to be safe and have a safe place to live, so she mutates some more and grows into a fleshy skyscraper whose human mind is still intact even if it can't express itself. Her ultimate fate is to have all the Hollow villagers live inside her body unable to leave, so now her "womb" is full of "children" who will never die or know harm. However, those children are completely dependent on Iru's existence to survive. Basically, Irumyuui's complicated desires turned her into a comatose mother whose "children" will never be born and will constantly need her body to live; she's eternally pregnant. She can't interact with anyone, can't move, can't even weep. All because Wazukyan gave her 2 Cradles of Desire.
running around as Vueko at Katsu today handing out these Vue-lentines i drew. so far zero strangers have flagged me down just because they recognized Vueko, BUT six people that i myself had approached (three fellow MiA cosplays and two artists that like the show and/or made merch from it, and one i said hello to for non-MiA reasons) did know her and like the Vue-lentine. so I’m counting it at six Vueko Knowers so far…
