Your wonderful post on "It's A Wonderful Life" reminded me of this terrible segment in this Freakonomics Documentary I saw in class called "It's NOT a Wonderful Life" which argued that abortion was good because it meant fewer people were being born into bad homes and thus growing up to be criminals. I still can't believe there are people in the world who legitimately think this and promote these arguments. It irritates me that they used the title of this movie, a movie about a man who learns that life was worth living despite the suffering he endured, to essentially say "yeah it's better if some people were never born."
That's horrendous. To be fair, they are specifically arguing against the movie's entire premise, which is the reason they use the title. But their horrific argument highlights the darkness at the center of the pro-abortion movement. They say that no one should be born into hard childhood or a life of poverty or a disability, but their solution is not to relieve the suffering, but to kill the person. Suffering makes life not worth living, so only the happy, successful, healthy, wealthy people deserve to have any life at all. Everyone else is disposable.
That's Potter's argument. That's Scrooge's argument. Saying someone shouldn't be born because their life will be hard is not compassion--it's the ultimate in selfishness. It's looking at your neighbor and saying not, "I should help them," but, "They shouldn't exist." It's destroying the sufferer instead of the suffering.
The pro-abortion movement is suicidal ideation on a societal level. It's built on a lack of courage that comes from a lack of hope--we can't solve these problems, so why should be we even try? Why should we bring people into this world when working to make it better does so little good?
It's a Wonderful Life beautifully shows that the struggle is not useless. George Bailey gives up his dreams. He suffers poverty. He feels like he doesn't matter, and the beautiful thing is that he gets to see that he does. Even if he ultimately failed, his struggles made life better for his town, for his family, for the world.
But even on a personal level, showing specifically how the world would be worse if he had never been born makes it a blazing beacon against the darkness of those who argue for abortion. By not being born, George suffered no health problems, no regrets, no struggles, no suffering--but he also has none of the joys of life. He ends up back on that bridge begging for his life back, fully believing that he's going to go to jail, because his problems don't change the fact that life is worth living. There is no suffering that erases the goodness in life, no matter how much despair tries to convince us otherwise. There is always hope, because even amid the darkness there is goodness and love, if we can be brave enough to see it, create it, nurture it. But first we have to be alive--which is why life is a gift that should be given to every child, no matter their circumstances.

Hi! List five things that make you happy; then, if you'd like to, put this in the ask box of the last ten people who reblogged something from you and spread some positivity ✨💙🌺
Hello! Thank you. :D
Nature! Being one with nature. I mean, going for a walk or a hike and admiring all of the beauty, the greenery, around you. Looking down into creeks or ponds and seeing the turtles poke their heads out. Seeing wildlife, like foxes, white-tail deer, raccoons. I also love seeing the neighborhood cats and stopping to say hi or play with them.
My consumers. I may complain about my job from time to time on here, and sometimes they tend to get on my nerves, but I love working with my consumers. (Those with developmental disabilities.) They are my work family, my friends. It may not be the best job, or the most high funding (I'm lucky to still live at home), but this job can be very meaningful and build a lot of character.
My family. My pet, Pamela. I love seeing my family up in Michigan on my mother's side. I haven't been there in around two years, so I can't wait to go back and see everyone!
Writing, heck, even drawing from time to time, despite I don't do it very often anymore. I think I would be happier if I could start writing again. Or picking up a new hobby. (Such as cooking!)
Becoming healthier, physically and mentally. I was in a really bad place a couple of years ago. I told my mother and coworkers what was happening. Luckily I found a new doctor who I really like and tells me how it is. Salad is awesome. It is so refreshing and crunchy and just... good for you.

Team Lewis 2023
Announcing the 2023 Inklings Challenge team assignments!
Members of Team Lewis are challenged to write a science fiction or fantasy story within the Christian worldview that fits into one of these two genres:
Portal Fantasy: Stories where someone from the real world explores a new world
Space Travel: Stories about traveling through space or exploring other planets
These genres are open to interpretation, and creativity is encouraged. You can use either or both of the prompts within your story, or if you’re feeling ambitious, you can write multiple stories.
Members of Team Lewis are also asked to use at least one of the following seven Christian themes to inspire some part of their story.
Feed the hungry
Give drink to the thirsty
Clothe the naked
Shelter the homeless
Visit the sick
Visit the imprisoned
Bury the dead
Writers are challenged to complete and post their story to a tumblr blog by October 21, 2022, though they are encouraged to post earlier if they finish their story before that date. There is no maximum or minimum word limit. Writers who have not completed their stories before the deadline are encouraged to post whatever they have written by October 21st and post the remainder at a later date.
Posting the Stories
All stories will be reblogged and archived on the main Inklings Challenge blog. To assist with organization, writers should tag their posts as follows:
Mention the main Challenge blog @inklings-challenge somewhere within the body of the post (which will hopefully alert the Challenge blog).
Tag the story #inklingschallenge, to ensure it shows up in the Challenge tag, and make it more likely that the Challenge blog will find it.
Tag the team that the author is writing for: #team lewis, #team tolkien, or #team chesterton.
Tag the genre the story falls under: #genre: portal fantasy, #genre: space travel, #genre: secondary world, #genre: time travel, #genre: intrusive fantasy, #genre: adventure
Tag any themes that were used within the story: #theme: food, #theme: drink, #theme: clothing, #theme: shelter, #theme: visit the sick, #theme: visit the imprisoned, #theme: burial
Tag the completion status of the story: #story: complete or #story: unfinished

I was tagged by @mademoiseli, @mrgartist, and @saxifrage-wreath for two different 10 songs games, one asking for 10 songs I've been listening to a lot lately and one asking for 10 songs that come up when I put my music on shuffle. So I decided to combine them by shuffling my Spotify On Repeat playlist.
1. Waking Up - We the Kingdom (Lockwood & Co playlist, captures the vibe of hope over despair and death over life as well as specifically the feeling of coming back from the Other Side - "I am alive in the land of the living" sung as victorious, love it!)
2. Told You So - The Band CAMINO (Guaranteed a spot in my Spotify Wrapped, favorite TBC banger)
3. Dancing on My Own (Tiësto Remix) - Calum Scott (Red October was fun while it lasted)
4. Can't Leave the Night - BADBADNOTGOOD (Lockwood & Co playlist, bangin' choice for a theme song)
5. Groceries - Mallrat (Lockwood & Co playlist, impeccable domestic fluff vibes, listened to for at least an hour straight for reasons of my latest flash fiction prompt response)
6. Haunted - The Band CAMINO (Lockwood & Co playlist... Are we sensing a theme... Speaking of, theme song and title source for Living With the Ghost of You)
7. BREAKFAST - half•alive (Look at that, more Lockwood & Co playlist, fantastic Locklyle song that makes me Feel Things about vulnerability and the push-pull of letting someone see you as you really are, thematic for more than one WIP - in fact it's been a competition for which gets the lyric title and which - "Here's a safe place to lay your heart down, it's a second chance, it won't be your last" GAH)
8. Captives Come Home - Run Kid Run (I loved this song in high school and I'm so happy to have it on the Lockwood & Co playlist as a song addressing the Other Side/Harrowing of Hell connection while also just being great imagery for the kids pulling each other along through Dark London, I'm completely not over "So hold on tight let's go, and leave behind false sense of hope, as I'm waiting for the world to end I'm clinging onto oxygen, pulling captives by the hand, come home" and then "the world is falling faster falling, so take this step and leave, to bring you home from the other side" like HECK you've got Other Side and Creeping Shadow references plus take my hand Lucy and let's go and the general climax of the story like WHAT)
9. Spiders - Bear's Den (Lockwood & Co playlist, excellent Black Winter angst song, with bonus imagery that fits in beautifully with the spiders/haunting motif in the series, also a theme/title source that a couple WIPs are competing for - "I can't take back all the hurt I've caused, everything I love I have somehow lost, it's 4 in the morning and the spiders are crawling in my mind replaying pictures of all that I can't undo, love, I'm trying, but I can't pull myself out when the darkness comes")
10. Last Man in the World - The Band CAMINO (Had to listen to the album on repeat ahead of the concert, you know how it is)
I tag @fairytale-lights, @mybrainisalibrary, and @loubuttons to participate, if you would like!

Tagged by @mademoiseli. Thanks!
last song: "How Do You Like Me Now?" by Toby Keith
favourite colour: There's this shade of silvery-purple that I once saw in an illustration of Christ's Passion as the color of John's cloak. Every time I've seen it since, I've been struck by how much I love it, and now for Christmas I got a sweater in that color.
last film/TV show: Last complete movie was Muppet Treasure Island.
sweet/savoury/spicy: Sweet
last thing web-searched: Laura Ingalls Wilder (looking for pictures for my post about her birthday)
current obsession: The writings of Laura Ingalls Wilder and Rose Wilder Lane. Brainstorming various retellings. Treasure Planet and other Treasure Island stories.
