OMORI - Voice Actor Headcanons.

While I haven’t exactly finished this game yet, I am close enough to the end and have met basically all the characters, so I think it’s time I got around to doing my good ol’ series of VA headcanons for a game that either doesn’t have one, or doesn’t have an English Dub.

This time we’re doing Omori, a game I started playing at the beginning of this year and have fallen in love with very very quickly. I’ve been through a very painful time of my life recently and this game helped me work through it letting me know that it doesn’t matter how I grieve, just that any way I can is correct. 

And the way the characters work together in the game is also incredible, and I was eagerly awaiting to get to the point that I’m at so I could do a VA headcanons section for this. So before we get started, let me once again go two things.

This is NOT CANON. These are HEADCANONS and are unofficial. It’s just a hypothetical situation. If the characters were voiced, this is who I imagine would voice them.

Thanks for thinking of me, @melsie-sims! I think my posts count as 'Gameplay', with maybe a bit of 'Story' thrown in?

My 'hood is pretty large, and I play each family in (not very strict) rotation, so I've needed a lot of housing for my Sims!

Some homes I've built myself from scratch: the Crawfords' beach house; Cassandra's Victorian semi; Marmaduke and Henrietta's townhouse; the retirement community; the Bennets' Victorian villa; Erasmus and Edward's, and Clara and Daniel's, compact residences; or the studio apartments for recent graduates).

I love building, but find it very time consuming, as I'm such a perfectionist and everything has to be just so! So, I'm always happy to find - preferably - CC-free/low-CC lots that fit my general aesthetic (compact, with a more European feel), which I can then customise as required.

Hence, I'm using quite a few residential lots that I've downloaded, many from my favourite builders @kayleigh-83 (Eleanor and Esther's chalet, apartments for new graduates), @deedee-sims (the family homes of the Eltons, Martins, Morlands, Wickhams and Willoughbys, Anna and Bennet's townhouse, Miles and Robert's bungalow, Jasper and Georgiana's house) and @honeywell-mts (most of the original family homes, including those of the Bertrams, Bingleys, Churchills, Darcys, Dashwoods, Knightleys, Smiths, Steeles, Tilneys and Wentworths).

I almost always make some modifications though, from simple switches of walls/floors/windows/doors/fences, right up to tweaking the footprint or completely revamping the internal floor plan, to better suit the family I have in mind. I'd say the split is about 50/50, between residential lots I've built myself (I'm just not using many of these yet), and those I've downloaded and modified. I don't use any money cheats, so if my Sims don't have the funds to decorate, furnish or expand, then the house stays as it is and they have to make do - hence my Sims' homes can look quite bare! As they go through life, and accumulate some savings, I start personalising their homes. But, I try to avoid completely remodelling the structure of a house while Sims are living in it, as I like to have a 'clean' copy of every lot (stored in the catalog), so that I can easily replace them if they become glitched, without having to rebuild from scratch. More often, I will just move a family to a more suitable home, if their circumstances change.

Queen Bee

With lines like “Ty always comes in the back way” and the exchange “It’s been so long.” “It’s about to get longer,” Ranald MacDougall’s QUEEN BEE (1955, TCM) is a drag extravaganza waiting to happen. Elegantly gowned by Jean Louis, Joan Crawford rules the roost as a Northern upstart who’s married into Atlanta society. She’s all sugar and magnolia until she’s crossed, and then she stings. Sister-in-law Betsy Palmer, years before she struck back as Pam Voorhees, says Crawford’s Eva does it “ever so gently,” but there’s nothing gentle about her performance. She strides and bellows from behind that elegant movie star mask in which nothing between the overdone lips and overly thick eyebrows ever moves. And yet she gets her points across. In one scene, she trashes Palmer’s bedroom with a riding crop while going on about how she’s been mistreated by husband Barry Sullivan’s friends and family (after she faked a pregnancy to lure him away from fiancée Fay Wray) and then surveys the damage and says, “I did get carried away, didn’t I?” The whole thing is utterly preposterous. Beyond the fact they walk and talk, the character never engage in recognizable human behavior. But I dare you to look away. Charles Lang shoots it all as if it were film noir, and George Duning scores it as lushly as if it were one of those Ross Hunter soap operas, which is good, because MacDougall’s direction is rudimentary at best (he was a writer making his directing debut, and he was never much of a visual stylist). Wray is funny as the belle gone dotty after losing Sullivan to Crawford, though both women look a mite too old for the men they’re paired with. Sullivan and Palmer do some decent work, though their Southern drawls keep slipping. Lucy Marlowe, as the nice cousin from Chicago through whose eyes we see the plot, is bad in such a boring way you can’t even laugh at her. You just wish she’d go away. And John Ireland snarls his way through his performance as Crawford’s ex-. It’s almost as if he knew the film and his affair with Crawford while making it were going to end his marriage.
