Spring Water Collector
Each week or so i look forward to visiting a local spring, where water flows out of an old pipe in the side of a hill, under a road, into a stone basin and out down into the fields. There are many springs in the Malvern Hills area, some flowing fast and clean, some barely dripping, presumably due to not being looked after over the years. But this one is a favourite as it's surrounded by trees that tower over you while collecting water. At night, when there are very few cars it is really quiet and I am often serenaded by owls hooting.
The benefits of local spring water in this area are well documented going back through the years, and i can see why - the taste is clean and pure with no additives. Today i decided to bring along my binaural microphone rig to sit alongside the spring and take in the sounds while i collected water.

I'd spent the spring in London, and all in all, even if I hadn't achieved everything I'd set out to, it had been an exciting interlude. But with the weeks slipping by and summer getting closer, the old restlessness had started to return. For one thing, was getting vaguely paranoid about running into any more of my former university friends. Wandering around Camden Town, or going through CDs I couldn't afford in West End megastores, I'd already had too many of them come up to me, asking how I was getting on since leaving the course to “seek fame and fortune.” It's not that I was embarrassed to tell them what I'd been up to. It was just that – with a very few exceptions – none of them was capable of grasping what was or wasn't, for me at this particular point, a “successful” few months.

Pamela Burns (b 1938) is a British painter.
Burns was born in London and now lives in Pembrokeshire. She studied at the Royal Academy Schools until 1963 and later taught at St Martins and Chelsea College of Art, London.
The technique Burns uses is engrossing and it is hard not to wonder at how these paintings are made. The marks, as if enchased, in their repeated lines, have an almost hallucinogenic quality - one is fixated by their minute scale. Some have been painstakingly created in reverse, with the background colour revealing the contrasting lines. It is a technique with its own mystery, delicately matching the mysteries of her compositions.
Burns paintings from the 1970s and '80s were inspired by the neolithic landscapes of the South West and the deep-rutted fields that lie in the shadows of the Malvern Hills, drenched in the warm greys, endlessly variant greens and deep browns of England's mud-bound cores. In particular, she looked to Maiden Castle, Dorset, and Cherhill in Wiltshire, both sites where the chalky soil had slipped to form narrow parallel ridges along the contours of the landscape.

Whoa, sorry to be back again so soon with another of these posts (but they do often come in waves!), but!! My story Bridging the Ravine just exceeded 40,000 hits today, becoming the 11th of my 91 currently-posted fics to achieve this little milestone! This was my first time caving and writing the fake-couple-for-a-fic trope and I had a lot of fun with it. I WILL warn for pre-story loss of child, but it’s the sequel that delves a little more into that. This is set at a made up place set in a real place (the Malvern Hills) and I had so much fun with the setting itself, creating a luxurious spa-type getaway which is also a male couples’ therapy centre. I remember editing this one and becoming increased dismayed and disgusted with myself for how many times I caught the phrase “freshly-baked baguette”, hahaha. I edited all of them out but one. Now you can chuckle if you catch it on a re-read, or a first read! :P Meanwhile, huge thanks to all of you who have read this one! It was also a personal record for sheer number of original characters created, and I’m touched by how many of you liked specific people of those OCs, too. :) Thanks so much, everyone! <3333333333333333333333
