please forgive my ugly ch4
a fic in which jesper gets evicted and ends up finally having to tell his friends just how bad he's gotten again.
ch4: Kaz pays Jesper a long overdue visit.
Kaz feels a familiar, ugly self-satisfaction settle between his ribs—a feeling that still seems to be reserved for hitting Jesper where it hurts. “It’s a simple safety precaution.” “It’s been years.” Jesper’s voice cracks on the shaky words.  “And I still have no intentions of letting it happen again.”  “So that’s it, then?” Jesper’s eyes meet his and Kaz watches desperation and resignation fight a losing battle against each other. A familiar fire of indignation burns through his words. “That’s why you’re here? To check if I’m a danger to them?”  Kaz raises his brows. “Are you?”  “Saints, Kaz,” Jesper exclaims, “how much more shit do I have to suffer for a little forgiveness?”  “What do you think my forgiveness looks like?” It’s a familiar question, one that had gone unanswered when Inej was in a hospital bed and Jesper’s nose cracked under Kaz’s fist. This time, Kaz doesn’t let the name slip out, but he watches Jesper straighten as if he said it all the same.

I got tagged by the lovely @crownedinmarigolds! Thank you so much mate!! I'm absolutely charmed 🥰
Now my rat bastard spouse stole most of my tagging options on their post so to not double-tag I will add:
@skaerdir, @klaciate, @tzimizce and @vamp-orwave!!
If anyone who sees this wants to be an honourary tagee, then go for it XD
For those who don't know - Hi I am Alex! (He/They) and I'm a writer and an English immigrant to the USA!
3 ships: oh mate all of these are OCxOC with @c-n-i-d-a-r-i-a-n
Victor and Gloria – A Nos and his unbound Ghoulfriend. Making your touchstone one of your mission Ghouls is dangerous af but live fast love hard, lads.
Jeff and Lamb – Another of Vic's unbound Ghouls and the Thin Blood Nos that joined the Warren. Disgustingly fucking cute injected into the den of the rejected and disgruntled.
Ventan/Taakur Rig and Rozanin Rig – My and Daz's SWTOR PCs respectively. A Chiss Cipher Agent that ends up having to go hide with his Mandalorian hireling with her Clan and Roz's unrequited love becomes hella requited and suddenly Ventan/Cipher Five-now-Taakur has step kids??
I love it so much.
first ship: Oh god this takes me back to being little. Probably a Sonic one??
Shadow and Rouge if I had to take a guess??
last song: Temptation by Sean Paul! A proper bop
But honestly massive shout out to the second Nostalgia Synthwave mix by Odysseus on youtube
youtube
This thing keeps me sane, and has all the songs marked! – that opening one, Realign by Cerulean, can usually just melt my brain into peace whenever I hear it
last film: Snatch – Like VTMB it's a problematic fave that oozes style and characterisation throughout. Watched it as prep for a Setite I'm going to play in a V5 game >:D
currently reading: Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan as part of genre research. Finished The Vampyre recently too! Really I should pick AC up today, I've been working hard on my editing and outlining of my own pieces and neglecting the reading part of the craft for a few weeks >.>;
currently craving: So I'm drinking far less booze to save money whilst I'm out of work trying to get some Proper Writing done. So when I hit a good worthy milestone I'm getting a bottle of whiskey and I am ready.
fav color: Green! Sometimes purple!
relationship status: Maaarriiied to @c-n-i-d-a-r-i-a-n
last google search: I had to double check the spelling of Taakur for the ship section, so it was 'mandoa' :')
and before that I'm pretty use I searched Scryfall last night to go look at MTG cards even though I have no one to play with right now :'D (at least it's saving me money >.>)
current obsessions: Was tempted to add my own work here but I'll tag that on the very end XD
There's a lot of fandoms I don't leave – World of Darkness and Warhammer 40k predominantly as settings I always have another angle I want to see explored in!
I do however have the Magic the Gathering bug, even though I haven't really played in years and years now – but card interaction as a generation for narrative has always kind of captivated me? Like there's a couple big mean Ogre cards that make Rats more dangerous, but due to the way the systems work they also empower the Ratfolk of Kamigawa, the Nezumi, as they count as 'Rat' cards still. So big Ogre spellcasters improving Rat people as part of a contained bit of narrative kind of fascinates me as a concept.
Plus each deck presupposes a Planeswalker character who's casting those spells – and I was always intrigued by that notion and so most of my OCs are representative of decks I played (or wanted to :P) and then in turn each Planeswalker needs a Plane to come from, probably from a still existing culture on that Plane too, and so it can kind of wonderfully reverberate inspiration.
Like how every VTM Kindred OC presupposes a Sire!
BONUS ALEX SECTION
So if you want to get to know me, let me tell you about what writing I'm working on/have made recently.
Out now!
The Mutilation of Finley Reid
A short story of masculine horror, about a young man by the name of Finley who suffers in the pursuit of having his place as a man affirmed by his peers.
The world of Torranham Nights is an anachronistic reflection of England set in the coastal city state of Torranham, drawing from contemporary culture and folklore as well as the legends and reality of the cultures that came before – without being fetishistic about it like a lot of stories will.
Handle It
A short retail horror, about working the cash register of a butcher's counter, and the customer who orders increasing amounts of ground beef...
Inspired by my own work in a same spot, anyone who's done service work should get a kick out of this – plus it's free and only takes 20 minutes to read! XD
On the way!
Defector – name subject to change
A short story of grief, shame, suicidal ideation, alcoholism, and community. On the moon.
A Special Recon mech pilot, “Crash”, from Earth has defected to the Moon rebels, and now lives in Magnolia City, rotting away in her tiny apartment. Then the Provisional Government sends one of its elite commanders, a former enemy of Crash's, to pull her out.
Elhart: Arrival
The first of a short story fantasy anthology about a city of refugees at the edge of time and space, hiding from the end of the multi-planar universe. A super soldier has washed up with a near-fatal headwound and no memory, and she must learn to live in a far more peaceful world than the one her instincts suggest she came from. But who was she? And can she earn the trust of people who fear her potential to kill?
Neon Sun
A novel! Cyberpunk Vampires! If we're mutuals you can come ask about this but I'm not ready to share things too publicly for this one yet, but the outlining has gone beautifully in my opinion, and the worldbuilding is singing.
Speartip
I'm making a TTRPG!! It's a Powered by the Apocalypse engine game, about serving as the primary field agents of a faction of people who need your support and protection. Because if you're going to be a hero, who are you doing it for if not your kin?
Setting agnostic as hell, excluding some implicit need for magic in the class moves – I'm prepping to playtest this in sci-fi and fantasy settings to see how well my mechanics hold up in both swords and firearms based stories. Plus I'm going to explore a variety of perspectives of what the faction can be – from ethnic groups, to gangs, to guilds, to neighbourhoods.
I'm VERY excited about all this!!

As we said in our closing message at the end of this year’s auction, you may wonder how much of an impact you can have when you're "just" you, but when one person shows up, a community will come out to support them. You become a part of something bigger, and you achieve something that you wouldn't have been able to do alone. MTH 2022 was proof of that.
This year, 205 "Marvel"-ous creators came forward to offer 343 auctions.
And this year, we raised…
Tumblr media
NICE. 😎 But in all seriousness, that's a number that we would have never imagined reaching when the event began in 2018; back then, we were thrilled with $19,262.52—and this is over $22,800 more than that! 😮💖🎉
Tumblr media
We never thought we'd hit over $40k this year, and we're unbelievably grateful and proud of what we accomplished together. Through the five MTH auctions we've run, we raised a grand total of $178,800.43.
We're floored to say the least although maybe we shouldn't have been surprised. Every year, you manage to surprise us and set records, and this year was no different. You came out of the gate running and somehow you blazed right past our expectations, continued to make us adjust our stretch goals as bids and donations came in, and hit a number we weren't sure we'd reach even as we began to hope for it.
It’s been an incredible journey, with the mod chat pinging at all hours with excited gifs, effusive heart emojis, and inarticulate keyboard smashes as we expressed our love for the wonderful people in our fandom. It’s been very hard not blurting out the milestones as we reached them when we desperately wanted to share these amazing results with you all.
Creators, we couldn't have started this auction without you. We loved seeing so many veteran creators sign up again and were pleasantly surprised by how many new faces showed up to the party.
Bidders, as crazy as it sounds, most donations were small ones including a lot of those crazily high winning bids—so many of them were the result of people pooling their five dollars together! This has been consistently the case since MTH began. It just goes to show how much of an impact you can have when you’re part of something bigger than yourself. Each donation has a ripple effect, and enough ripples can cause a wave. You matter, and you can make a difference.
We also owe our success to our amazing signal boosters. There can’t be an auction without any participants, so to every fandom community Tumblr that agreed to reblog our posts, every Discord server mod who let us post announcements, and every person who shared our posts and encouraged their fandom friends to sign up and/or bid, thank you so much! Together, we reached hundreds of fantastic creators and bidders from all corners of the Marvel fandom, many of whom we didn't know and some who were hearing about us for the first time.
Thank you all. We’re so touched by the massive number of people who donated above and beyond their pledged amount, creators who took on multiple auctions and offered multiple winner slots, and bidders who accepted their second-place wins with such eagerness! We also had people make donations in the spirit of MTH even though they didn’t win an auction, which was beyond generous.
In addition to the astounding amount of money we were able to raise for charity, MTH was successful in other ways. We strove to be as inclusive as possible, determined to make this event a fandom-wide effort. Considering that the auctions covered over 425 unique platonic and romantic relationships and character-centric options (if we include "all ships/gen"-inclusive relationships, this number is even higher) across 36 universes within the Marvel multiverse, we can safely say that we accomplished our goal.
This spirit of inclusion also applies to our auctions and charities. Every one of 343 auctions was bid on, and every one of our 30 supported charities received donations. We’re in awe of your commitment to supporting all our creators and charities and thrilled that you spread all the love around, bidders!
Here’s our breakdown of the donations (to enlarge the image, click here and hover to see the donation amount per charity). More than half of the charities received at least $1,000 this year!
Tumblr media
We’ve also listed the amount raised per charity on our 2022 auction results page.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for helping us turn our fifth Marvel Trumps Hate auction into such a fantastic experience. We cherish every single message of love and support that we received and continue to receive on our Discord server and through DMs, Tumblr messages, emails, tweets, etc. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!
Tumblr media
To remember or learn why we created this auction in the first place, please check out our 2018 "thank you" post to all of our creators, bidders, signal boosters, and supporters.
If you'd like to stay updated on all of the 2022 Marvel Trumps Hate fills, follow us and/or check out the "mth 2022" tag on our Tumblr. You’ll also be able to find works posted on AO3 in our Marvel Trumps Hate 2022 collection and links to fills in our Discord server, which you can join to brainstorm prompts, chat about fills, and find out about other fandom events.
Thank you once again to everyone who volunteered their services, time, money, and platforms to spread the word. These are tough times we live in, and it's easy to believe that there's only so much you can do as an individual.
Like Kamala and Nakia, however, many of us feel that if it's in our power to help, if we feel like we should help even if we're not sure what we can change, then the very least we can do is get involved. And as they saw through their actions and we all saw through this year's auction, if enough people feel the same way and rise to the occasion, our impact can be far-reaching and life-changing. You may have "just" chipped in $5, offered something "small" for auction, or "only" cheered people on and spread the word about the event…but without you, we wouldn't have raised over $178,800 to help make this world better for everyone.
And with that, MTH 2022 has officially come to a close. We're so beyond grateful to you all and can’t wait to see all of your fanworks over the coming year!
Lots of love and gratitude, Your 2022 MTH mods

I've gotten quite a few followers in the past couple days - enough to hit 1,300 milestone! Just wanted to say WOW HI! Thanks for the love and support!!?!?!?! 🥰
A small introduction: I'm Aev and this is my humble art side blog. If you're interested in the person behind the art on here I blabber a lot on my main blog @sotc about video games, my OCs and tv shows. I got way more flair and personality on there than here, I swear 💃 My main interest right now has been Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader since I'm going through my first PT. It's also my first game into the Warhammer setting!! It's been SO fun exploring such a rich world... any other fans in here? 👀
Anyways, thanks again for stopping by and enjoying my art! I actually have commissions open right now in case anyone would be interested. I recently came off a rest for a few months from a burnout so I'm really really excited to get back into it now that my creative juices are flowing again!
Thanks a lot for being here - I really love sharing my art with you all and it means the world to me <33

Some fun production stuff regarding Blind Trust. Here is the folder containing every backup that eventually led to the final book one ARC!
Note the title changes - there were three of them. I don't know how other writers do secondary backups, but I usually go by chapter or word count if I hit a major milestone and/or reach something that it would kill me to lose. Can you guess the point at which i lost 40k and decided to take out my anger on the document name and/or my future self?
Why did I save so many backups in PDF? I CANNOT REMEMBER!
This is my job somehow.

2022 Fics in Review
Thank you to @longbobmckenzie for the tag!
I've been writing fanfiction on and off for over 10 years now, but in the last two, I've finally stuck to one account, firstly, and followed through on finishing things, and these days, I'm a little more proud about what I've achieved - recently, I even took a bunch of fics off anon.
In 2022, I...
Completed one chaptered fic that I started in 2021: Instincts (LITG, Bobby/MC & Gary/MC)
Started and completed the following chaptered fics:
Safe Haven (Euphoria fandom, Fezco/Lexi)
Right Where You Left Me (Euphoria fandom, Fezco/Lexi)
The Music Café (Doctor Who fandom, 12/Clara)
Instincts: Unseen Bits (LITG, Bobby/MC & Gary/MC)
Started the following chaptered WIPs:
After The Villa (LITG, Bobby/MC & Gary/MC)
Snapshots (LITG, Gary/MC)
Wrote the following oneshots:
First Times (LITG, Henrik/MC)
His Impossible Girl (Doctor Who, 12/Clara)
Perfectly Matched (LITG, Noah/MC)
Stupid Stunts (9-1-1, Buck/Reader)
Reached the following milestones:
Over 380k words posted on AO3
Completed a fic longer than 35k words (been a goal for years and finally hit it with Instincts)
40k total hits on AO3
Wrote for 4 fandoms and 7 different pairings Read over 1000 fics, some new, some old (it takes too long to work it all out, but I had read 1293 fics this year back in August) Made new fandom friends Got the confidence to start working on original fiction
Don't feel obligated to participate or to follow the exact structure, it's about celebrating what you've done this year (so if you've done a lot, post your proudest bits if you want), but I'm going to tag @aislinnstanaka, @rebelrayne, @mrsbsmooth, and @bypine.

Y’all. It has taken me three months to claw my way back up to 700k after deleting ~40k worth of fics earlier this year. For the ~two years I’ve been publishing to AO3, I’d maintained a much faster pace than that—40k might’ve been a month of words during parts of that period—but this spring has been a mix of surgery, recovery, work, and personal commitments outside of hobbies. I haven’t been able to sit down and write 1k words a day; I probably won’t keep up that rate ever again.
So hitting 700k, at long last, feels so much harder-earned than any of the 100k milestones before it. ❤️
(And no, you can’t see the last 13k of that yet—check back in July—but these words are my achievement, and I will count the unrevealed work.)

It’s been a very long time since I first started collecting Astartes. I want to say a bit under a year and a half, as I got that starter easy build kit in June or July of 2021. But I’ve hit another big 40k milestone, I think.
Tumblr media
I’ve finally collected over 2000pts of Thunderbearers. I think this is the signifying mark of a substantial collection. Despite me having this many dudes, however, it’s mostly infantry and I still don’t have a lot of shit! I only have one tank and I don’t own any troop choices besides Intercessors. I’m excited to see how the collection keeps progressing, as it always does, so let’s talk about some more Astartes.
Tumblr media
(Thunderbearers Intercessors circa a month ago or whatever)
Last time I posted my Intercessors, they were submerged in a big disgusting green alien bath. Since then, I’ve taken them out of the tub, dried them off, and given them some new armor and weapons.
Tumblr media
(Freshly stripped and rebuilt Intercessors)
I replaced the majority of their arms (and some of their shoulders, too) because they were all equipped with standard auto bolters and not my silly Damantyne-pattern rifles. To most, this inconsistency would be a minor inconvenience at worst, and definitely not worth fixing. To my brain, which is riddled with holes akin to a fine Swiss cheese, this bolter disparity a huge issue and something that I definitely had to remedy so as to maintain equipment uniformity throughout the army. Arm replacement also gave me an opportunity to repose a lot of them, which is something that I felt they were severely in need of, since I didn’t really understand posing when I first built them.
Tumblr media
(Nameless Sarge with grenade launcher, the worst gun of all time)
As an aside, this was their first Sergeant. Unnamed, unmarked, and uninteresting. This dude was in the bath with the rest of his squad, but I reworked him quite a bit more than his brothers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Nameless Sarge 2.0 and/or older Sergeant Arctos)
Here he is after his refresh. His pose is more dynamic and his armor is bulkier, but he still maintains that sort of knightly aesthetic that his helmet and tilting plate gave him in his first appearance. While he’ll remain unnamed, I like to think that this is what Sergeant Arctos (the fledgling Intercessor Sergeant of the Calthradia Crusade) eventually progresses into as he begins becoming a Bladeguard Veteran.
Tumblr media
(After his bath, Arctos has been given a tactical rock to signify his position as Sergeant)
The power sword on Sergeant Arctos’ hip once belonged to his mentor and closest ally during the Indomitus Crusade, an unnamed Bladeguard Veteran. Near the end of the Crusade, Arctos and his brother were cornered by xenos. The Bladeguard was slain, and Arctos picked up his blade, defending his brother’s corpse with it for Throne knows how long until reinforcements reached them. Arctos keeps the blade as a reminder of his dead ally.
As Arctos fights in the Calthradia Crusade, he’s began relying upon the heirloom blade more and more. The Sergeant is realizing his latent talent as a swordsman, leading to more aggressive infantry tactics and a renewed sense of both purpose and confidence. His new model represents a middle point between Intercessor and Bladeguard, which is the transitional period as Arctos will find himself in as the Calthradia Crusade comes to an end.
Tumblr media
(Thunderbearers Intercessors in full, give or take one or two dudes)
Between the newly equipped classic Intercessors and the brand new boys I built a while ago, the Thunderbearers infantry division is looking more and more complete. I think I have 5 squads of Intercessors now, or at least 5 Sergeants.
Here’s a couple of my favorite new Intercessors, dudes with cool poses and such.
Tumblr media
For this guy, I sanded his backpack down and glued a little combat knife to it. It makes him look adventurous and very combat ready, and I dig it.
Tumblr media
This other dude is maybe my favorite of the new Intercessors. His pose is super dynamic, and the knife combined with the reticle over his eye gives him an immaculately lethal appearance.
There’s a couple more Intercessors to show off, as well as some other kitbash projects. I have a bit of a custom Inquisitor I’m working on, but I’m gonna wait to show him off until I get some bases in the mail. I’ve also cycled my remaining unpainted minis into the Trazyn bath, so I’ll have an entire army to prime and paint soon enough. That’ll be, uh, fun, I guess.

NaNoWriMo 2022 Day 6
Overall Goal: 50,000
Daily Goal: 1,667 words
Daily Total: 1731
Overall Total: 11,149
Story Worked On: New Vellarton #2
Update: 10k, baby! Only 40k left to go now! That still feels like a lot, but hitting those milestones always feels really good and makes the overall goal feel a little more obtainable. Writing 10k in under a week is still a lot, so I feel really happy that I’ve reached that mark. Anyways, I’ve started on New Vellarton 2 now that I’m all caught up with Immortal Minds. I’m really hoping to finish this one this month. So far, I feel like I’m off to a good start, but there’s still a couple loose ends that I’m not sure how to wrap up which concerns me a little. Hoping I can figure it out quickly though!
Daily Excerpt: “I was just going to say I thought it might have been trial and error,” Kit said. He left out the fact that would not have explained Gerard’s extensive knowledge about the poison.
“Well, kind of, yes,” Gerard said. “I’ve never had to make an antidote for any kind of poison before. So yes, there was some guesswork involved.”
“I see,” Kit said. “I guess that makes sense.” He was trying to talk him out of his emotional state, but it was hard to tell if he was succeeding in doing so. Gerard still looked very tense, and he kept eyeing the door as though it were made of solid gold.
He had clearly made a mistake in asking for some answers, but it was too late now. “You know,” Kit said, “Perhaps we could—”
Gerard leapt to his feet without warning. “I’m sorry,” he said, “I– I need to go.” He dashed over to the door, but Kit acted quickly and used his powers to lock it. Gerard grabbed the doorknob and frantically tried to turn it.
“Kit!” he shouted, “Let me out!”
Kit slowly stood up, but he wanted to keep his distance. He remained rooted firmly in his place.
“Damn you, Kit!” Gerard said, still trying to open the door. “I know you’re doing this!”
“Gerard, please,” Kit said. “Just calm down. I don’t know what you think I’m trying to do to you, but I didn’t mean to offend you.”
“I’m not offended Kit,” Gerard said, “Just feeling very, very threatened.”
Kit wanted to think back on the entire conversation and try to pinpoint exactly what had gone wrong, but he didn’t have time for that now.
Gerard banged his fists on the door. “Damn it, Kit! Let me out!”
“If I let you out you’re going to have to deal with the guards,” Kit said, trying to sound calm. Despite his best efforts, his voice still trembled slightly.

It's Been A Change
Honestly, if someone had told me 5 years ago that I would be in America with a GC, I would have laughed it all off. Yet here I am. Sitting on 30th street at a co-working space in New York while my wife is working on the floor above, looking across to a view obstructed by a building, and trying to pen my thoughts about it all.
It's been just over a month and of course this comes as the New Year kicks in and I reminisce over the past year and how significant a change it truly is. I am not usually a reminiscing type however, in lieu of becoming an immigrant, I must try and bring at least the last year together.
While moving to America became an eventuality 2 years ago when I married the love of my life, it didn't really dawn onto me until I had the immigrant visa stamped on the passport few months ago. Since then, time's just flew by. Packing and moving, packing and disposing, packing and giving it away - all life filled into boxes small enough to fit into the backseat of the car. Ultimately the 3 big suitcases is all that remained of 35 years. Nothing left behind. The rented apartment quickly filled in by new people. Sure it would take them a bit to fill it all up, but if I ever lived there? - isn't that the question.
If I could surmise the past year or rather years in a few lines, {as the process of getting the Immigrant VISA is full of paperwork, going through questions the consular officer might ask, early morning or late night calls with the lawyer, joining numerous groups on social media, reading terrible experiences of the people in similar situation, and projecting their grief into our lives}, Lenin's quote would be the most fitting - There are decades where nothing happens, and then there are weeks where decades happen!
As soon as the stamped paper came, the process of letting go began. Life of pie has this beautiful quote - in the end, I suppose, all of life becomes an act of letting go, but what hurts the most is not taking the time to say goodbye - delivered most brilliantly by the late Irrfhan Khan.
I think I didn't say good bye to most things I was letting go {I know about the context of the quote but I do feel it with things too - after all our things are us}. As I sit here, overlooking the windows of the building opposite, I guess this whole thing is my way of saying goodbye.
Goodbye to my apartment, to the bed and the television it faced. To me coming home, alone, always looking forward to FIFA or a new movie/series, and FaceTiming my wife. To my second hand A-star which in the end fetched over 40K {bought it for 60K 8 years ago}. To the numerous nicks and knacks I collected over the years. To the beautiful things my wife added into my apartment and made it a home. To the uncle who lived on ground floor and always had some kind of an issue {he wasn't bad}. To the convenience of 'Blinkit' , 'Zomato' and 'Swiggy'. To the countless helpers, plumbers, electricians who were a phone call away. To the FIFA tournaments at Akarsh's place. To the always-complaining-about-our-maid, flatmate and friend - Shashank. To my workplace where I hit more milestones in 7 years than ever before and amazing people I met there - including my better half. Most importantly, saying goodbye to the feelings of familiarity to the country you are born in, the city where you live, the roads you travel, the restaurants you go to, the food you eat, the people you call friends and, and to the familiarity of the Mundane - waking up everyday to do the same things, having a routine - that is what I am taking a moment to say goodbye to.
Here's looking forward to 2024 and creating all these familiar things in a new country. What's life without an adventure eh?

and The Shadow Over Beau Rudolph officially reached the 40k word mark last night!! I am not anywhere near done but it feels good to hit another milestone like that. I’m really hyperfixating on it right now and I’m trying to ride that wave to get as much work done as possible on it. I’m having a lot of fun writing it right now. I’d left off on it like five months ago and could not bring myself to work on it again but I finally got out of that slump for the time being. Life is good, man.
